Confession time: I have a hyperfixation. If you’ve been here a while, you know this is just how I work. I fall down a rabbit hole, buy way too many of one thing, and share it with all of you. I introduce to you… the brooch.

This one actually tracks, though. Vintage has been the throughline of my whole wardrobe recently, and brooches are the missing piece I didn’t know I needed. They’re the fastest way to make an old piece feel like it belongs to you, and with quiet luxury on its way out and maximalism on its way in, adding a little being to that “capsule wardrobe” we all invested in just feels so good.

And I’m not the only one catching the bug. Chanel, Tory Burch, and Vogue have all spent the last few seasons dragging the brooch out of the heirloom drawer and putting it back on the lapel.

The Chanel-Tory-Burch-Vogue thing is a fun excuse, but it's not actually why I have a brooch problem. The real reason is more personal.

The One Thing in My Makeup Bag I'd Keep If I Had to Give Up Everything Else

I used to travel with a makeup bag the size of a carry-on. I would just have my foundation, concealer, three different blushes I bought, thinking they’d fix each other, a bronzer I never finished, and a highlighter I used twice.

Some of that was habit. As a professional makeup artist, I’m used to carrying a kit stocked for anything. The products I reach for are constantly sitting alongside a dozen I might use once a year. That logic works on set. It doesn’t work for a working mom trying to get out the door, and it definitely doesn’t work for a carry-on.

Then I noticed something else: my foundation had started settling into the lines by my mouth that hadn’t been there five years ago. Not blending in, just sitting there, aging me further. That was the moment I understood the stakes had changed. It wasn’t only about how much I was carrying. It was that half of what I owned had stopped making me feel pretty, which is the entire point of makeup, and started making me feel older instead.

I no longer had the wiggle room to wear anything that wasn’t working for me. So I edited hard. It came down to one palette and three moves. And once I saw what that actually replaced, I couldn’t go back to the drawer.

My Nose Job Journey

If you asked me two years ago whether I thought my nose job journey would have been like this, the answer would be most definitely not.

I recently posted the procedures and treatments I’ve had done and rated each one. My nose job got a 5 out of 10, and out of that whole list, that score got more questions than anything else, so let’s dive in.

Why I Decided to Get a Rhinoplasty

I loved my nose until I started to get a little bit older and the tip became more bulbous and began to droop. I also had a divot at the tip of my nose that looked like… Well, like a penis. 🤣 For the short term, I was able to get some filler to fill in that divot and give the appearance of a more lifted tip. I also would place Botox at the very base of my nose to prevent it from drooping when I smile.

I actually loved my filler for a long time. It gave me exactly what I wanted. But over the years, the tip of my nose started drooping more, and the filler only made my nose get bigger.

Eventually I decided I wanted to correct the underlying anatomy instead of continuing to maintain it with filler.

I sat with this decision for a while, honestly, partly because it meant telling people I’d gotten a nose job. In fact, my first consultation was in 2014! My nose was cute before. But as much as I like to think I’m past caring what other people think, there’s always some part of you that does, no matter what you do. I say do what makes you feel more confident. I wanted a few specific things fixed that had been bothering me, and I got them.

The surgery was one thing, but what came after was another.

This week we will be diving into one of my favorite topics: vintage shopping.

The older I get, the more I value vintage pieces. My mom was an antique collector, and I couldn’t appreciate that when I was younger. Now I love the history and stories pieces tell. Naturally, as a fashion lover, designer vintage has stolen my heart. But now even just buying second-hand gets me excited… even if the item retains no value other than to spark memories of my youth.

I have to give credit to my bestie Jaime! She has eclectic taste and an eye for design and curation looks, whether in homes or in styling. Some of my favorite memories are estate sale hunting and thrift shopping. She’s taught me so much. I’ve made plenty of mistakes and passed up on pieces that I still think about today. But I’ve learned a couple new tricks that have changed the way I shop, and I rarely leave empty-handed anymore.

The best vintage pieces usually aren’t the first things you notice. They’re the ones everyone else walks right past. Once you know what to look for, vintage shopping becomes a completely different experience and, honestly, way more fun.

There’s one thing I look for within the first five minutes of walking into a vintage store, and it tells me whether it’s worth spending an hour browsing or moving on.
