That is an oligarchy where a tiny elite becomes incredibly rich at everybody else’s expense. In that world, oligarchs monopolize all wealth and power while everybody else faces poverty and oppression. History teaches that such a society will collapse into revolution and dictatorship.

Or we can chose a more humane path. A world where a governments tries to implement true American values and offer democracy and freedom to all.

My novel The Most Dangerous People in America shows both futures. In it, an American oligarchy has collapsed into civil war and anarchy. Set after a Second Civil War, the war’s victors, social democrats are trying to rebuild America.

Part of their rebuilding is a new kind of prison that treats criminals as patients. In the novel, a young reporter visits a special example of such a prison. This prison is a luxury resort converted to a mental hospital where the government is trying to treat oligarchs, politicians, generals, and other criminals responsible for the war for their sociopathic behavior.
