I am adding a link at the very bottom of this page but really it is to inspire you to go through your closet and play around with different hues. The mixing can add a new spin on items you might be bored with. Just give it a try. My favorite color combination has always been a cornflower blue with a chartreuse. I have worn it for years and it always feels fresh and fun. I have added it to the mix but I have also included new combinations I am excited to try.

Do you remember the days of blogs? Where bloggers would write their Monday posts recapping the weekend using all photos they shot themselves? I loved them. I love how the photos were pretty but not perfect, the writing was authentic and links were sprinkled throughout the article instead of the entire article focused around links. It all felt so…real.

I want to bring it back, even if just for this Monday. So, here is my Weekend Favorites, 2026 edition. Complete with homegrown photos. Pretty, not perfect. I will plan to write more in my posts going forward but for now, I will get to the point.

1. Grocery Store Flowers:

You didn’t expect this one, did you? One of my favorite things is to find a really beautiful, and inexpensive, grocery store bouquet, break it up and sprinkle it throughout my house. This bouquet cost me less than $20 but look at all the different arrangements I got out of it. The colors they used also make me smile. Note to self: Orange, green, purple and yellow are beautiful together.

2. The RealReal Treasures:

I used to scroll Pinterest when I needed to checkout for a little mental break, now I find treasures on The RealReal. I often consign with them, giving pieces I am no longer wearing a second life, making room in my closet, and use the money from my sales to buy new special pieces. It is becoming one of my favorite ways to keep my closet in circulation.

3. New Kitchen Vase:

I have always loved the look of a kitchen centerpiece. Since our kitchen is big with a lot of empty space, it lends itself well to a centerpiece. I have searched and searched, for years, for something that felt right and I finally found it. This vase is big and gorgeous. I love how it looks with these stems filling it. It gives our kitchen a nice warmth without feeling overpowered. I thought Brice would walk in after work and say, absolutely not, but even he agreed, it adds the perfect touch.

4. A blooming Rose Tree:

I love my plants. Okay, let me rephrase, I love having plants and I love taking care of them. I come from family of nursery (plant, not kids) owners. My grandmother had a very successful nursery in south Texas, as did my uncle, and now cousin. It runs in my DNA.
Our current landscaping was chosen by the previous owner and, well, it isn’t my style. My style leans more towards classic/traditional and they chose more modern/southwestern. I am slowly changing it out but in the meantime, I maintain what I have.
I tend to my plants everyday. I love nurturing them and watching them grow and bloom. In this Texas heat it is quite the success to have blooming plants. I take pride in that. This rose tree was something I actually chose. Brice and I picked it out, planted it together, and now I get to see it thrive. It brings me so much joy. It is currently blooming and every time I look at it I can’t even begin to tell you the happiness it brings.

5. New Picture Frames:

These Brooke & Lou bamboo frames are perfect for a cozy home. What I love even more? I have already filled them with family photos. I was a step ahead this year and on our flight home I favorited photos from this summer and had them printed via mpix. This is the website I use every year for our family photo albums. Have I shared those? I need to. They are one of my most favorite things I do. Next Monday. :)

During this summer trip to Switzerland we played with the idea of taking the girls to Paris but with the heatwave they were having we decided to pivot. I have always wanted my girls to feel a connection to Switzerland. They are lucky to have seen a lot of it but there are so many regions they have yet to explore. On my first trip to Switzerland in 2009, Brice and I traveled to the Junfraau region. I remember how breathtakingly beautiful it was, so with all of this in mind, we decided to show it to our girls.

I am going to be really honest. WOH tourism in Switzerland has picked up. Mainly American tourists. In 2009, it felt like I was one of the only Americans, this past summer, while we stayed in Wengen, we were one of many. At one point I turned to Brice and said, “are we in Colorado?” It was astounding how many Americans there were. I am not saying it was bad. I love America. I love Americans but it didn’t give the authentic feel I got 17 years ago.

With that in mind, here is our itinerary.

They were beautiful, but were they worth it?e

Nobody sends a memo when your style changes evolves. It happens. It happens because of weight-loss/gain, aging, lifestyle. It just happens. It feels like you wake-up one day, look in the mirror and just go, “nope. Not anymore.” Or maybe it is gradual for you. You stop reaching for the pieces you once used to love, or “make work.” We all do it. It is a natural progression. Our sense of style can stay the same (mine will always be classic and feminine), but the pieces we use to achieve said style can change.

Here are my 5 Things I Quietly Stopped Wearing:

1. Cut-Off Jean Shorts:
   Once a summer staple of mine, I realized I had stopped reaching for them. I used to love jean shorts (The Agolde Parker short was one of my all time best sellers) but as the years went on, I started feeling like I was too old for them. That might sound crazy at 38 but, they stopped feeling like “me.” I felt like I was trying to be the Mary of my 20’s and I had moved on from that. au revoir

   What I wear instead: I still love a short but now I wear this style. I own these and love them. They are currently on sale. I wear a size 8.

2. Pinch Waist Jeans:
   These were never built for my body, and I spent years pretending otherwise (hello Agolde jeans). I am still young but I am too old to be uncomfortable for the sake of a silhouette. I have a thick ribcage/middle section. They just don’t work for me. Life is too short to suck in for eight hours. Auf Wiedersehen

   What I wear instead: I love this brand! They feel amazing and don’t squeeze my waist (I like this style and for a wider leg, this style). I wear a 29 in both.

3. Oversized Dresses:
   Comfortable, sure. But comfortable isn’t the same as chic, and the one thing I want to pass on to each of you, tailoring does more for how you feel than an extra size up. Do I own oversized dresses? yes. Do I mainly only wear them around the house? YES. They won’t make you feel good. You might think they will, but they won’t. When you aren’t feeling great, avoid them. Go to the pieces that are tailored and fit your silhouette. You will instantly feel better. Goodbye tent dresses.

   What I wear instead: Dresses with this style flatter a silhouette but are still easy and comfortable to wear. I also like this one.

4. Heels over 4.5”:
   Beauty might have been pain when I was 25 but my arthritic knees have since filed a formal complaint. After years of fighting it, I have listened. And you know what, my body and happiness is better for it. adios

   What I wear instead: One of my all time favorite heels now comes in a suede for fall. This brand (shoe) is also always comfortable.

5. Strapless Dresses:

   Done. Bye. Never again. Not only are they impossible to keep up with my size chest, the straight across neckline does absolutely jacket s%$t for my body. Since I am broad up top, it makes me look like a line-backer. Again, something I used to wear in my younger days but I have since learned what compliments my body, and my happiness. arrivederci strapless.

   What I wear instead: This is the most flattering “dressier,” dress. I also LOVE this one.

They say with age comes wisdom and I also want to add, with age comes awareness. Awareness on what looks and feels good. Clothes are meant to be fun and make you feel great. If they don’t, Bye Betty! Moral of the story, meet your body and style they are.

Okay, let’s chat. I had two incidents happen the past few months that had me realizing it was time to re-think this make-up thing:
1. A 27 year old found out I was 38 and said, “wow. You don’t look that old. You look really good for your age.” I am sorry, WHAT?! 38 is not old, missy.
2. I was watching a video where a dentist office danced down the line to the #1 song from the year they were born. Well, this one lady, whom I was sure was born in the 70’s came out dancing to a song from 1987. The same year I was born. I was shocked. And it hit me, although I feel 21, I am indeed not. And as I age and want to age gracefully, perhaps my make-up should too.

Over the past few months I have been playing around with my make-up routine and the ideas I have around it. I have been loving what I am creating so I wanted to share.

Here are my Type B, low-effort, still-look-like-you-got-it-together tips that I have been collecting over the past few months.

1. Skip the full-coverage foundation. I.KNOW. We have been told that full coverage = flawless. But as we age a heavy foundation sits on fine lines and gives the reverse effect, it ages you. I also believe the thicker the foundation the more it looks like you're trying to hide or cover. Which again, ages you. What I recommend instead? A light-medium buildable foundation. I love this one. It allows you to build to the level you want but also lets your skin shine through.
   If you want an even lighter option with SPF, I like this one.
   And if you absolutely cannot let go of a foundation, please just buy this one (there is also a reason it has almost 1K reviews). It is a foundation but light and makes your skin look incredible. Truly incredible. It isn’t cheap but it is worth every penny.

2. Cream products are your best friend. Mainly Cream blush (linked) and cream bronzer (my favorite linked). Powder or matte can often look chalky and settle weird as our skin texture changes. cream is bendable and instead of sitting on top of your skin, it melts in. Dot it, blend it, enjoy it.
   That said, I recently received a comment from a follower saying that she can’t wear creamy make-up because she feels like it melts off in this Texas heat.
   

   I honestly know exactly where she is coming from. The hot weather can feel like your make-up is literally melting off. If you feel like this and cannot get on board with the cream trend, try your more matted foundation (a light one, please) and then add a cream bronzer or blush on top. I firmly believe that at least one creamy product will make world of difference.

3. I whole-heartily believe in this tip. Use a setting powder ONLY where you need it. You don’t need to powder your entire face just to make all of your make-up stick. Your skin will end up looking like a dry, dead mask. I use a light setting powder under my eye, around the base of my nose, and a little on my chin. Your face might be different so use sparingly where your skin tends to get oily.

4. Bows and Lashes over eyeshadow. I really believe a curled lash and filled in eyebrows create a clean and youthful look. The heavier the eye makeup the older and heavy you look. If you want to dress it up a little more I love a thin winged eyeliner. This is my favorite $7 eye brow pencil.

5. Lean into a fresh lip. (this is a good one) Whether it is a lipstick or a lip tint a nice, moisturizing, fresh color will always look better and healthier than a natural dry lip. Even if you only wear a tinted balm, do it. This will bring color back to your entire face in one swipe. It is the “laziest,” most high impact tip on this list.

6. I am about to say something controversial. Which is maybe why I saved it for last. Especially living in Dallas. Less is genuinely more. This isn’t about “throwing in the towel.” This is actually our best look right now. Take less product, not more. It sounds counter productive but I really swear it. This is also how I feel about botox, filler and all the things. I am not saying don’t do it, by all means, do what makes you feel best, BUT, less is more. There is a certain point women get to with all of that “anti-aging,” where in fact I believe it ages you more. I was a victim of this first hand. I look back on photos and realize, I didn’t look better or more youthful, I looked like a digitized version of myself.

Let us age gracefully, while embracing the natural, and enhancing where we need to but just, with less.

Let’s be honest: carry-on content is always the same linen sets, the one good bag, the shoes that “go with everything.” Cute. Aspirational. But also not the full picture.

The real MVPs of any European trip are less photogenic but so much more real. So here’s the other list. The one I pack from and thank the heavens above I have.

Magnesium (I like this one)- Nobody wants to talk about it, but your gut does not care how good your outfit looks. Different food, different water, different time zone. Magnesium keeps things moving. Non-negotiable. Ever. Every.Trip.

Electrolyte packets (I like this one)- You will walk more than you think you will. It is one reason I love Europe. You can eat everything in sight because you have probably walked 20,000+ steps a day. While that is great for your waist it can leave you dehydrated before you know it. One packet in your water bottle by Le Tour Eiffel and you’re a new woman.

An eye mask (I like this one)- European hotel curtains are decorative, not functional. The sun will find you at 5:30am whether you’re ready or not. TRUST ME.

Glycine (I like this one)- The eye mask handles the light. This handles the actual jet lag. I take 2-3 magnesium and 4-5 Glycine. It will help you stay on a normal sleep schedule without leaving you drowsy. I take it 2 hours before I want to calm down.

Eye Drops - Even if you never in your regular life use eye drops, I find that I do in Europe. I don’t know if it is the air or what but my eyes tend to get drier. Eye drops help me go from day to night and feel great.

Compression socks (I like this pair - or similar)- Long flight, then immediately a full day of walking. Your ankles will thank you by dinner.

Blister plasters (Compeed, specifically)- The cute new sandals you bought for this trip will turn on you by day two. Non-negotiable, buy before you leave, not from a farmacia in a panic. I cannot tell you how many times I have been in need of Compeed and have wasted time desperately searching for a pharmacy. Just leave a set in your purse. One trip Brice looked at me, down at my shoes and said, when will you learn. Slowly but surely, I am learning. To be prepared (never change the shoes).

Tums or anti-acid medicine- Rich food, different water, more wine than usual. You know why this is on the list.

De-puffing eye patches (I like these for fresh eyes) - For the same reason you want to pack tums or anti-acid. Your, European lifestyle, face will thank you.

Earplugs- Old buildings, thin walls, garbage trucks at 6am. Sleep matters more than the view. Can you tell I have learned the hard way?

A crossbody bag- Rome, Barcelona, Paris- pickpockets know the tourist look, and it’s usually the cute bag that gives you away. Leave the nice bag at home and go practical with this one. Like, really. It isn’t worth it.

So that is my list. I am sure I am leaving out some really valuable items but hopefully that will help if you are packing for an upcoming trip. These will help you thrive and not just survive in a cute outfit.

I went back and looked at what my top sellers for 2026 were thus far. I was surprised to see it was the Stripe & Stare underwear. I was surprised until I realized my most requested item is, “What bra do you wear?” That made me realize that so many women struggle with the “underneath.” Honestly, I get it. So many brands, influencers, stores are all geared towards or marketed for women who have flat tummies and breast that point more north than south. I am neither. The Lord blessed me with a lot of great things but a flat tummy and perky boobs were not one of them. And let alone that my boobs point due south, they are also quite large. In high school, before sports bras became what they are, I wore two sports bras just to do any normal exercise. Finally in 2009 I got a reduction and a lift. My life was changed, until gravity and babies took a hold. So, we are back to where we started (albeit a little better).

It feels like this is a lot of you so let’s dive into what works for me. A 38 year old mother of 3 with a tummy and National Geographic boobs.

1. Natori Liquid Full Fit Contour Bra (linked):

   Let’s start with the most requested: My Everyday Bra. I have tried a lot, and I mean, A LOT of bras over the years but this is the only one that feels supportive, comfortable, and holds up well with a lot of use. For years I was wearing the Spanx bra but overtime I needed a little more lift. I am telling you, this bra is a dream. I even turned my mom onto it and now she loves it too. It does have an underwire but unfortunately with the boobs God gave me, that is something I need.

2. Wacoal Strapless Bra (linked):

   I discovered this strapless bra years ago. It was at a time when strapless bras were awful and I had given up on ever wearing anything that required one. I found this Wacoal bra. It was supportive while not budging one bit. I also remember being shocked I didn’t need to size up two sizes for it to fit. I was instantly sold. There might be other options now but this is the strapless bra that has gotten me through many of outfits without me having to tug at it.

3. Stripe & Stare Full Coverage Underwear (linked):

   Here it is, my most sold item of 2026, the Stripe & Stare high-rise brief. Honestly, for good reason. Now let’s be real, they aren’t winning any sexy awards but it is a clean sweep in the comfort category. I wear these for nighttime. I get pretty hot so I usually sleep in a Lake nightgown and a pair of these. They are a dream. I love the high-waist and soft cotton. I have never had so many women DM about an item as I have about these. Each one saying how much they love them and they have already gone back to order more. They are just heaven.

   

4. Hanky Panky Breath High-Rise Thong (linked):

   These Hanky Panky’s are my everyday underwear. Now, I have worn Hanky Panky for as long as I can remember. Who remembers the regular fit lace thong that fell just below my gut, making them miserably uncomfortable for anyone without a 6 pack. I then graduated to the high-rise lace pair, which honestly, comfortable. BUT if you are over 30, remember those lace days and a thong girl, this is it. THIS.IS.IT. I kid you not, these are possibly as comfortable as the Stripe & Stare full brief. Mark my words. Most comfortable and breathable thong on the market. I love the high waist, the breathable material, and the weight (they feel like air). I won’t go into too much detail but just trust me. Truly, TRUST ME on this one.

5. The Natori Yogi Sports Bra (linked):

   You all read my sports bra horror story when I was in high school. I would have to double, even triple, up on sports bras just to keep my chest from not bouncing into oblivion. IT.WAS.HELL. I am going to be very frank, it wasn’t until two years ago (I was 36) when I finally realized there were better sports bras out there. Most sports bras are made with spandex bands around our rib cage that rolls up. They create a uniboob and offer zero support, but hey, they look cute. I am sorry, WHAT?! What about us women who actually NEED an actual sports bra to keep our chest in place? Well, at 36 I discovered the Natori Yogi and I never looked back. This is why I love it: Adjustable straps, thick so you don’t show through, incredible support without weighting down your shoulders, compartments for each breast so NO UNI-BOOB, breathable material, great for everything from high impact to pilates, and they really hold up well. If you need a sports bra, I really do recommend this one. I reach for it for tennis, my HIIT classes, and pilates. *** It does come in multiple colors

6. The Ewedoo’s Sports Bra (linked):
   This was actually recommended to me by a follower when I asked for best sports bras. When my Natori is in the wash, I reach for this bra by Ewedoos. It offers incredible support and a comfortable fit. I do prefer it for more high-intensity workouts or sports. It helps your chest stay in place but doesn’t dig into your shoulders. Like I said, I prefer this for high-intensity. It provides very little bounce. :)

So many of you are traveling abroad this summer and I have been asked enough times now that I felt it deserved its own post.

Every time I travel internationally, I come home and someone asks me how do you do that with kids? And honestly, it comes down to a very specific packing list I have built and refined over the years. Some of these I learned the hard way (arriving in Paris exhausted and puffy-footed will teach you things). Others were passed along by women who had been doing this longer than me. Hi to Susie, my mother-in-law.

This isn’t a post to make you go out and buy everything new. Most of these things you probably already own, or can find at a very reasonable price point. I just want you to travel well. And comfortably. And look good doing it. Is that too much to ask?

Here is what I will not board a long-haul flight without:

1. My #1 Compression Socks:
I resisted these for years because I thought they were for someone much older than me. Wrong. I was so wrong. After a nine-hour flight to Europe with swollen ankles and that uncomfortable tight-shoe feeling for two days, I never got on a plane again without them. I also really believe they help with jet lag. I have purchased expensive pairs and cheap pairs and they all do the same. I wear a skin colored pair that look blends into my skin so nobody knows, and my legs thank me. They improve circulation and genuinely make a difference in how you feel when you land. I get mine from Amazon (3 pack for $10 or this pair which is what I wear) and/or my local CVS. If you want a more expensive pair Bombas makes a great pair.


2. AirTags in Every Bag:
Every. Single. Bag. My checked bag as well as my carry-on. All of them have an AirTag tucked into an interior pocket. This is one of those things where the first time it saves you, you will feel like a genius. Airlines lose bags. It happens to our family every time we travel. 2022: Brices bag, 2023: mine and Brices bag. 2024: the girls bag, 2025: my bag. When it happened to me this summer, I knew exactly where my bag was while the airline was still “looking into it.” The only reason I ended up getting my bag back was because we physically drove to the airport and showed them its location. This was after them flying it to 6 other airports. It was a disaster.

**** Which brings me to my other tip, always take a photo of your suitcases. The reason we knew our bag was at the airport was because of the AirTag BUT we would not have gotten it that day without the photo. Brice showed the airport worker a photo of our bag and the guy remembered seeing it in the pile. Thanks to the photo he knew where it was and went to retrieve it. ALWAYS HAVE A PHOTO OF YOUR BAG.


3. A Good Blackout Sleep Mask:
Not the thin paper one they hand you on the plane. A real, contoured, weighted sleep mask that blocks out every bit of light and doesn’t press on your eyes. I have tried many. The ones with the molded eye cups are the only kind I use now because they do not push down on your eye and they actually work. This is the one I use. I don’t think you necessarily need the massager but with my insomnia I pull out the big guns. This is the mask I have in all of our suitcases so no one is without one. One time the seat in front of us would not turn out their overhead light. It was shining bright right on Eleanors face and kept her up the entire plane. I learned my lesson and now will not travel without a mask.


4. A Large Scarf or Wrap:
I am sure you already have this in your closet but just don’t forget it for your carry-on. This is the most multi-purpose item in my carry-on. It is a blanket when the plane is freezing (and it is always freezing). It is a pillow when you fold it up. It is a chic layer when you land and it is cooler than you expected. Mine is a large cashmere-blend in a neutral: camel, cream, or a navy. It works on the plane, at the destination, and everywhere in between.


5. Your Own Snacks:
This is my hill. If I am not fed well, I become, in Brices words, “the Beast.” I will literally become an entirely different person and brice will say, “IT IS TIME TO FEED THE BEAST.” It is actually yBrice who makes sure we always have food because he is so scared of, “The Beast.'“ We always pack our own snacks/food because airplane food and international travel are unpredictable. I pack a sandwich, a good dark chocolate bar, a protein bar, and sometimes a small bag of crackers/chips. I have traveled in first class and economy and I hate to say it but I find the food in all levels to be quite inedible. My stomach always hurts and I get indigestion. I always feel horrible upon landing so I have learned it is just better to pack my own food. For your travel, find a food that travels well and keeps your energy steady so you don’t land starving and making poor decisions. A.K.A. become, The Beast.


6. The Luggage Situation
I want to talk about this for a second because your bags matter more than you think.
We are a Rimowa carry-on and Rimowa checked bag household. Although I keep hearing amazing things about Away. Both are functional, polished, and hold up beautifully. My rule is that my bags should be easy to identify on a carousel and easy to move through airports. Rimowa is a fortune, I know. But after trying out many other brands, the wheels on a Rimowa are like nothing else. They glide and stay upright so well, especially when you’re running through the airport. I also love that their carry-on is strong enough for all of our girls to ride on them. This is the only way we have gotten through all of our layovers and transfers. Eloise sits on Brices suitcase and Beatrice sits on mine. If you are in the market the Rimowa carry-on is genuinely worth it (in my opinion). That said, my friends all have the Away Carry on and I have to say, it does fit quite a bit more. I am tempted to break my loyalty and buy it for long weekend travel.

7. Divide and Conquer:
Because the airline always seems to lose our bag I have learned to ALWAYS pack our carry-on with: 2 outfits, a few pairs of underwear, one extra pair of shoes, 1 pajama, contacts, swimsuit
A few items you would need to get through 2-3 days without your suitcase. I can not tell you how many times this has saved us.

A Few Extras I Never Skip:

• All necessary chargers (iPhone, iPad, etc)

• Jewelry: NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER put your jewelry in your checked bag. I am alway shocked that people do this but a friendly reminder, it always goes in your carry-on

• Universal Power Adapter

• Feminine Hygiene products - you just never know and often times other countries use different products

• Facial wipes - I have to wipe my face down before trying to sleep

• Medication: I always have Excedrin migraine and medication for the girls close. A tip: always travel with medication in your carry-on. Especially prescription medication

• A small pouch of travel skincare: good moisturizer, lip balm (the cabin air is brutal), eye patches.

• My own pair of noise-canceling headphones. The earbuds the airline provides are never the answer

• iPads with lots of pre-downloaded shows/movies

• 1 book

• Mints

• Eye drops

• Hand Sanitizer

• Pen - depending on where you are going they make you fill out a form

Travel is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself and your family. The memories made abroad are the ones that stay. But comfort on the journey matters too. You want to *arrive* feeling like yourself, not like you’ve been through something. Trust me, the airlines will do a decent job at that for you (insert eye roll). Pack well and be prepared. And for the love of all things, wear the compression socks.

Years ago I made a decision when Eleanor was around two to let my girls dress themselves. I have made it a point to never critique what they choose, only to embrace their choices and uplift their decisions. Over time I am hoping this builds confidence in their ability to make a decision and stand confidently in that.

With this in mind, some days it is challenging. What I would like for my girls to wear is often times a far cry from what they actually choose. The other day I mentioned to Brice what a tight rope we walk in helping them understand the situations where effort and elevation are necessary. Trying to guide them into making choices that are more appropriate for certain occasions.

Truthfully, Brice and I take great pride in our appearance. Not for the approval of others but we believe it shows respect towards yourself. There is also a sense of pride when you put in an effort to get nicely dressed.

My girls have a very strong opinion on their outfits, which I love. They know exactly what they want to wear and no one is changing their mind. They have a deep sense of who they are. I know the times are coming where they will waiver in their confidence and be swayed by outside forces. Before that happens I hope to instill a few core beliefs in them before all of the voices of middle school opinions grow louder than that of their own.

1. Style isn’t about keeping up. It is about knowing yourself:
   With all of this recent love for CBK one things which is undeniable about her, she knew herself. I want my girls to know the most beautiful girls in the room are rarely the girls wearing the latest trends, it is the ones who look confident in their own choices. For example, if you see two girls in the same outfit, the one who looks most at ease in her choice is the one you will notice first. It isn’t about what you are wearing, but how it makes you feel.

2. I want them to understand that quality matters:
   I really believe we need to get out of this, buy, use, discard mentality. When we buy quality, we are buying years of extra enjoyment. It is important for them to see that by taking good care of their items you can have them and enjoy them for years to come. It isn’t always about the “new,” but about appreciating the things you already have. When you take good care of the things you own, it shows a certain pride you take in owning and cherishing them. This includes your fashion and what you are choosing to spend money on.

3. Have Fun But Remain Classy:
   When tight, short, and sparkly are on trend, know that not all of these should be worn at once. Have fun with your fashion but keep a certain class and dignity about yourself. When everyone feels like they are showing it all, have confidence in who you are to maintain a certain level of decorum. Maintain the idea that elegance isn’t old-fashioned, it is powerful. I obviously want them to be young and fun, but to know the difference between something that gets attention and something that earns respect. The idea of “age appropriate elegance.”

4. Do Not Perform for Others:
   I have made the mistake of being overly inspired by other people. It never felt like “me".” When I finally learned my own personal style and stuck to it, the happier and more conformable I was. Copying people is exhausting and unnecessary. Discover what you love and what makes you happy. I hope they know that getting dressed isn’t for anyone else’s approval but for building a life they love and feel good in.

5. Shoulders Back, Head High:

   This is perhaps my most quoted saying and the lesson I want them to learn the most. My friend Amanda heard it many times in college. The goal isn’t to be the best dressed girl in the room. There will always be someone better dressed, richer, prettier, etc. The goal is to be the girl who knows who she is before she walks in the room. Enter the room with authority and confidence. And if you aren’t feeling it that day, put your shoulders back and your head high, people won’t see the difference.
   

I realize all of this will be easier said than done, but damn it, I will try my best. I know the benefits of learning these lessons earlier rather than later so I am making it my mission. As women, we are told so many things about our appearance. I hope to the good Lord above I can instill a certain amount of confidence in my girls so when they hear things, they can brush it off a little easier. Here is to hoping …

I actually dream of having a home like this. I want a home where my kids can learn about their history, about trips we have taken, and appreciate that these are family heirlooms. To really appreciate the history behind it all. To fill their lives with the stories not only that we are creating, but the ones which have been created before them.

Obviously I don’t (yet) have enough family heirlooms to fill an entire home but over the years I have been able to collect items that I hope my girls will be proud to inherit one day.

I wanted to share some of the special pieces in my home, as if I were giving my own home tour. I thought bookshelves were a good place to start. Although they look like normally styled bookshelves, if you look closely they are full of some of Brice and my most treasured pieces. If I were giving my tour, these bookshelves would take me a while to get through. Each item has a history and story behind it. Every time I walk into this sitting room I admire a different object and think of the person that shared it before us.

As you can see, they are full of items both new and old. They are the perfect example of the way I want my home to be filled. A part of the past and a part of the now.

Here are a few outfits I pulled together for inspiration.

I have started paying close attention to the posts that stop my scrolling and make me want to click. The other day I saw someone post one simple Amazon link. She didn’t tell her followers what it was but that she loved the product. Of course I was curious. And maybe it was more so because it was on Amazon and I knew I could easily access it, shall I want it. And yes, I realize there are issues with this mentality. My generation and younger are screwed for our, “instant gratification,” mentality. I digress.

All of this to say, there was a curiosity as to what someone found and bought on Amazon. It got me thinking. So for today’s post that is exactly what I am doing, giving you a peek inside my Amazon profile.

If you’re curious, here is everything I purchased in the last month (minus my Evian subscription):

1. Clip on earrings + Jewelry organizer (both linked)

I bought these for the girls Valentines Day basket and they loved them. They actually loved them so much I ended up ordering more as future kids gifts. I bought the larger size organizer and it has been perfect of all of their earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. Beatrice gets so excited to choose her accessories for the day.

2. Pimple Patches (linked)

Honestly, I bought these because they were recommended by Kathleen Jennings. Most all of her recs are homers but jury is still out on these. Dare I say I find that Mighty Patch works better? However, since she said these were one of her favorite beauty items, I will keep giving it a try.

3. Mustard Bath (linked)

Eloise came down with what I believe to be the Flu. She was out for an entire week so I was trying anything and everything to help her body detox and get better. I actually used to use this years ago and completely forgot about it until a friend recommended it. It is great for any type of detox.

4. Outdoor Furniture Mildew Spray (linked)

FML. Our new outdoor furniture (that sits under a covered patio) has signs of impending mildew. I am hoping to kill it before it really sets in and grows. I am not sure if this is the best but it had the most reviews so we will see.

5. Pre-Ordered Annie Meyers-Shyer Book (linked)

I mean, unless you’re living under a rock you are or have been following, “This Oak House.’ Annie is the daughter of Nancy Meyers, so impeccable taste is in her DNA. She started her instagram when she started renovations on her husabnd’s childhood home. She took us along for the process and didn’t hold back or gatekeeper a thing. Now, all of the goods will be in her book. She is promising everything from paint colors to finishes. I can’t wait, even though I am going to have to because it only releases in October. But, your girl is read.

6. Magnesium Bath Flakes (linked)

It is no secret I struggle with arthritis, as well as, insomnia. I am not satin the two are related but magnesium salt baths have been known to help with both of these. Magnesium is one of the key components to absorption and our overall health. I don’t do a soak as often as I should but I always have this on hand. I even have my daughters do it. Good for the entire family.

7. Girls Two Piece Set (linked)

My sweet, sweet, Eleanor. Oh how getting dressed is a challenge for us. If it were up to her she would be in athletic clothes everyday. While I let my kids dress themselves 99% of the time, somedays I just can’t look at one more outfit that makes them look like street rats. Of course I never say this to their face, but I do present options that make both of us happy. I found this athletic set that satisfied her needs and cohesive enough to satisfy mine.

8. Cord Holder Cable Clips (linked)

   

   These were a recommendation from, This Oak House. My entry way has a console with a lamp on top. I noticed when I would post videos I could see the cord and it drove me crazy. I bought these and while they do the job, I actually prefer just simple Velcro strips. They are sturdier, you can add multiple wires to one (these only fit a single wire so you are using a lot of them), and they lay flat. This is the velcro strip I use.

   9. Arnicare Gel

Last month I had a serious allergic reaction to retinol. I kept waking up to really swollen eyes. It was pretty humbling, waking up everyday feeling like your worst version. One of you mentioned arnicare gel and adding it to my lids and under eyes. I love Arnica for any injury or surgery but I was unaware that a gel existed. It felt amazing and really helped the swelling. I will now always have this on hand.

10. Wicker Storage Baskets

Okay, these don’t feel like they are antique nor expensive but I LOVE THEM. I now have them in Eleanor and Beatrices room. They look cute, feel sturdy, and are the perfect size to throw odds and ends into.

13. Gemstone Dig Kit

    

Do you need something that will distract your kids for hours? Buy one of these. Oh my gosh. My girls were outside for HOURS digging out rocks. I will say, it is really hard. I even got in on the fun and it takes work to get them out so I wouldn’t recommend them for little kids. However, my girls (4, 5, 7) LOVED THEM.

14. Rose Quartz Gua Sha tool

While I was going through my allergic reaction I was desperate to bring down the inflammation. I saw a girl on TikTok truly transform her face with one of these so I was sold. Honestly, I had one years ago when they were first growing in popularity but I did not understand the impact. I used this not he mornings my face was swollen and even Brice could see a difference. I now keep it out on my counter and do it each morning.

15. Gem Stickers

I always get asked about the jewels on my phone and my computer. I. buy these and let my girls go to town. These aren’t the gem stickers that I originally used but they work better than the other brands I have purchased in the last year. I would love to know where I got my original jewels because they lasted YEARS without falling off.

16. Jojoba Oil

One of my daughters suffer from eczema. I mentioned it to a friend of mine who said she baths her kids in this Jojoba oil. She let me borrow hers and I have to say, it works great. It isn’t a miracle product but it definitely adds moisture back into their dry skin.

17. Acrylic Stands (linked)

I actually bought these for my Mother-in-law. I have these all over my home. It is how I display plates and art on the shelves. I love that they are clear so you don’t see them. They come in a lot of difference sizes which is really nice too. I would add these as a Hafner House Must.

I love history and I love old people. A weird way to start a post but it is true. My mom used to say when I was a little girl, if there was a room full of people, young and old, I would always go sit with the old people. I loved their stories, appreciated their wisdom, and wanted to soak in their lessons. I used to sit with them and ask a million questions about life, their youth, their stories. I wanted to put myself in their shoes and feel the days of old. I still feel this. All of this.
I won’t pretend to have it all together. I am so far from having it all together. But in my 38 years, and many conversations with people much older than myself, I have realized there are little rules I have collected and like to live by. I thought I would share mine and hope you can comment and share some of yours too.

Little rules I like to live by:

1. Never go cheap on two things - steak or alcohol (my parents taught me this)

2. Set the table, even if it’s just family

3. Never save your fancy/nice pieces for “one day.” Light the candle, use the good dishes, wear the fancy dress. Stop saving them and start making memories with them.

4. Learn the art of no. Not every invitation needs a yes. Protect your peace.

5. Quiet moments matter. It is okay and necessary to have alone time.

6. Small and consistent family rituals (like Friday Movie Night) matter more than anything elaborate

7. Always have something living in your home - fresh flowers, tree, plant

8. Even if you don’t feel it, put your shoulders back and your head high. Confidence can trick any insecurity

9. Quality over quantity - in friends, clothes, life

10. Always pour the glass of wine and turn the music up when you’re cooking

11. Rest is productive too

12. Take a moment to realize you’re making the memory

13. Stand firm on your beliefs. People might not agree with you, but they will respect you

14. Live a life where your funeral is full (I always say this)

15. Live an honest life. Always tell the truth. Always. Your word and name are everything.

I have others but that is what I will share for now. I would love for some of you to share yours. I always love reading them.

A house is just sticks and bricks but a home is what you make it. Unless you personally build your house - every home has a story before you arrive. When we moved into this house, there were so many thoughtful details already in place but it was our time to create a space that fit our family and layer in our personality.

I had just come from a very colorful home. When I asked my previous designer what my interior design taste would be called she said, “sophisticated fun.” I loved that and it felt very fitting for that home. However, for this home, I was ready for a change. wanted sophisticated. I wanted warmth, intentional layering, new meets old, traditional, and elegant.

My interior style of choice is English traditional. I love the way they layer a home. Always with old pieces that feel so warm and inviting. So when we took over this home, that was the idea I was going for.
