That’s why today, at this critical tipping point for our campaign, I wanted to reach out and explain why I decided to run for this seat in the first place.

We are in a moral moment that needs real leadership. But instead, incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan has repeatedly taken votes that are injurious to Alaskans. He voted more than ten times for the Iran war, which is driving up our costs. He supported gutting healthcare, public radio, disaster relief, and veterans’ benefits. And he was revealed as the top recipient of corporate trawling industry donations in the Senate.

On the other hand, I’m not taking a dime from the trawling industry. I refuse to take money from the very industry that’s making life unattainable for working Alaskans. I’m running to ban congressional stock trading, implement term limits, and finally unrig the system in DC that looks the other way while working Alaskans get crushed – the very system that’s propping up Dan Sullivan, one of the most unpopular senators in the country.

I’m facing more than $30 million in outside spending from DC groups that are dead-set on attacking me. And together, this movement defeated them all.

But as exciting as our primary victory is, it also put the establishment on notice. $30 million isn’t enough, but their resources are nearly unlimited, and they’re going to pour everything they have into defeating us.

So today, as we’re staring down the barrel of our first fundraising deadline of the general election, I’m asking if you’ll make a grassroots contribution of any amount to help us win this toss-up race, defeat Dan Sullivan, and put Alaska first.

After getting off stage, I was able to mingle with the crowd and enjoy the show with my sons. It was a night I’ll never forget!

The State Fair is one of my favorite parts of Alaska summer every year. In a state as big as ours, it’s not every day that we’re able to connect with folks from every region, from the Southeast to the Bush to the North Slope, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to come together in Palmer.

Days like this are a reminder of why this fight is so important to me.

While celebrating the traditions we’ve grown up with and connecting with folks from every region of our state, it’s hard not to see how our way of life in Alaska is slipping away.

Life in Alaska is hard, and we embrace that. But lately, it’s gone from hard to nearly impossible for so many families. Sky-high costs, corporate greed, and a lack of opportunities for young people are driving folks to the brink – and DC politicians like Dan Sullivan aren’t doing a thing about it.

We need a change, and it’s up to us to work together to bring about that change and ensure that our kids and grandkids can afford to live here, and thrive here.

We should be able to trust our delegation in DC to fight for us – but instead, Dan Sullivan is lining his own pockets. He’s more than TRIPLED his wealth since getting into office (including what looks like some “suspiciously timed” stock trades 🙄). He’s getting rich off of the very same groups that are harming our state, from farmed fish to Big Pharma.

The Alaskans I’ve met this year aren’t tripling their net worth every few years. They’re being crushed by excessive gas and grocery costs. And I don’t think it’s a radical idea to say that our senator should care.

I’m running for Senate because I think the Alaskans I met in Palmer last night – and Alaskans in every corner of the state – deserve a fighter. And I’m deeply grateful for the support I’ve received thus far.

We earned nearly 50% of the vote in our open primary election this month – more than 76,000 votes. We beat Dan Sullivan by 7 points, and we’re leading in nearly every general election poll. And in just a few days, we’re facing the first fundraising deadline – the first test – of the general election.

The Supreme Court is not even in session. But they issued an “emergency order” in the eleventh hour of the election cycle to allow mail-in voting restrictions, right before people begin voting in the midterms…

Today, I’m spending the day in Anchorage – starting with casting my own ballot! Then, I’ll head to our field office to speak with volunteers before they head out knocking doors to get out the vote, just like I did in Palmer this weekend!

In most other states, candidates from different political parties don’t face each other on the same ballot until the general election in November. That means that polls and fundraising are the only indicators of whether or not a candidate can win – and polls have never been wrong before, right? 😉

Well, we’re lucky to have a lot more certainty than that! On Tuesday, we’ll appear on the ballot alongside incumbent Dan Sullivan, and we’ll be able to see how we fare with real voters in the only poll that matters: the ballot box.

I want to be clear: This is the first test, not the last. There is still a long road to November, and a lot can change in 77 days. Plus, in November we’ll face three other candidates instead of 16!

But while Tuesday’s results aren’t the end-all-be-all, a disappointing result could spell disaster for our campaign. The press, my opponent, and his DC Republican backers are all watching eagerly to see if I have what it takes to win statewide (again) in November.

Typically, this is a happy time. We get to celebrate ships coming in to resupply our community and express gratitude to our hard working union workers for getting these supplies offloaded and on to their final destination.

But this year, many folks in the Bush are dreading these shipments – because with them comes higher prices. Because the price of fuel is set once a year, these communities haven’t yet felt the full force of the current sky-high gas prices (though they’re still paying anywhere from $5 to almost $20 a gallon in many parts of the Bush!).

With these new shipments, fuel prices might get locked in at more than $20 a gallon for the next year in some regions – crushing Alaska families in rural parts of the state. And in Alaska, this isn’t just about transportation and shipping costs – this impacts our ability to heat our homes in some of the harshest winter conditions on the planet…

Let’s be clear about why these costs are rising: My opponent, Dan Sullivan, has turned his back on Alaskans and voted a dozen times to support an endless war that’s sending fuel prices through the roof.

Earlier this week, I visited Nome, Savoonga, and Gambell. Today, I’m going to Emmonak and Alakanuk, and tomorrow I’m headed to Unalakleet. In every one of these places, and in the dozens of other rural villages I’ve visited, I’m hearing from Alaskans full of anxiety and dread over the impending shipment.

Families in the Bush already pay higher prices for nearly everything, whether it’s $17 for a gallon of milk, $75 for paper towels, or $90 for laundry detergent. Basic necessities are growing increasingly out of reach, and the situation is only getting worse.

But rather than address this crisis and fight for lower costs, politicians in DC look the other way. My opponent Dan Sullivan has repeatedly voted against lowering energy prices, and he refuses to deliver for the rural Alaskans being crushed by his failing policies.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – this is my favorite part of campaigning by FAR. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to meet with Alaskans from so many different backgrounds and hear about the issues they’re facing. Every single one of the more than 300 communities across our state deserves to be heard and represented in DC.

On Tuesday, we visited Homer, which is the end of the road system on the Kenai! To get anywhere farther south, you need to take a small plane or boat – and the same is true of Nome!

The reality is that the vast majority of our state – more than 80%! – is disconnected from the road system. That means that to get to a huge portion of Alaska voters, you have to take other modes of transportation, whether it’s a small plane, boat, ATV, or in the winter, a snowmachine!

Every community, every voter. Whatever it takes to win this race and put Alaska first.

We held our first campaign event just a few days later in Anchorage. A few days after that, we traveled to Fairbanks. Then Juneau, then Bethel, then villages across Western Alaska – and we’ve been all over the Last Frontier since!

Today, in honor of kicking off the last two weeks before our open primary election, I wanted to talk through some of my favorite parts of the past year in Alaska – and what they say about our campaign.

In March, we kicked off the Iditarod in downtown Anchorage.

The Iditarod is one of my favorite Alaska traditions. And there are lessons we learn from dog mushing that apply to this race now.

Just like a dog sled team, as long as we all pull in the same direction, we can overcome any challenge and win this thing. It’s all about the team.

It’s never a smooth course to the finish line. But when a team works together and pulls in the right direction, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish. Jessie Holmes proved that when I saw him in Nome after he crossed the finish line first after racing for more than 9 days across the Alaska tundra!

And then last month, I traveled home to Bethel to put up fish for my family, on the same waters I’ve fished since I was a child. Decades have passed, but I’m still spending long days putting up fish at fish camp each summer, only now it’s my kids and grandkids beside me.

This year was different, though: The Alaska I knew growing up – a place of abundance, where there were more than enough fish, game, and migratory birds to fill everyone’s freezers – is slipping away. Now, we have scarcity.

It’s mind-blowing, and heartbreaking. When I started fishing on the Kusko, six salmon returned for every spawning fish. Today, the return rate is less than one. Closed or restricted fisheries are becoming the norm instead of the exception.

Being at fish camp this summer was a stark reminder of why this race is so important – our way of life is slipping away, and it’s up to us to save it.

Then this past weekend, I went down to Ninilchik with three of my sons for Salmonfest – the biggest music festival in Alaska! This year was their fifteenth anniversary, and it was incredible to see so many people come together for good music – and even better causes.

In addition to showcasing great music, Salmonfest does incredible work to uplift and protect the salmon population in Bristol Bay, which so many fishermen rely on.

Being there and hearing from festival organizers and attendees about their wonderful work was so inspiring – and it reminded me of what I’ve been saying since the start: Alaskans are ready to save ourselves.

That’s a screenshot from ActBlue, where we collect the majority of our grassroots donations, and it shows that so far in July, we’ve raised less than what we raised in June. The opposite direction we need to be heading leading into our open primary with Incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan in August.

In the most competitive and expensive Senate race in the nation, failing to ramp up and reach our fundraising goals could spell disaster for our plans.

The truth is, we rely on grassroots donations to fund every aspect of our campaign operation – whether it’s printing yard signs, running TV and digital ads, or hiring organizers in far-flung regions across the state, online donations from people like you are what keep this entire campaign running. And I’m incredibly thankful for every single person who’s stepped up to help us get here.

As we get closer and closer to Election Day, our costs grow exponentially. The airwaves get more crowded, voters start to tune in, and we need to be ready to get our message out there through as many channels as possible.

These FEC reports are public, and everyone – my opponent, the press, and the entire DC establishment – will be watching to see how much we raise.

This public report will indicate whether or not we have the resources to defeat incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan in both our August 18 primary and the general election in November. If we fall short, it could spell disaster for this campaign.

We’ve published two FEC reports so far, and both times, we vastly outraised our opponent – but that’s not the whole story. Our opponent is receiving enormous support from the DC establishment, to the tune of tens of millions of dollars.

The NRSC – the DC campaign arm for Senate Republicans – just launched its first joint TV ad with Dan Sullivan after the Supreme Court loosened restrictions on what used to be illegal coordination.

They know that Dan Sullivan is one of the least popular senators running for reelection. They know that he sells out working Alaskans for his corporate and billionaire donors. And they know that we’re on track to defeat him in November – with your help.

Our campaign has taken $0, because Alaskans deserve a senator who fights for us and our interests – not the deep-pocketed, out-of-state corporate trawlers that are destroying our way of life.

It’s clear that Alaskans are ready for a change. We have the momentum, the polling, and the grassroots energy on our side – but that’s only made DC Republicans and their dark money super PACs get even more desperate.

They’re desperate because Dan Sullivan is one of the least popular senators running for reelection this year, and Alaskans are sick and tired of our “leaders” in DC cutting deals and enriching themselves while working families are hung out to dry.

They’re sending the Senate majority leader, the Speaker of the House, and even the Attorney General out to Alaska to prop up my opponent.

We determine our own future. It’s not up to corporations or Lower 48 millionaires and billionaires, and it’s certainly not up to the DC establishment and the super PACs that back them. It’s up to us.

Our elections aren’t “rigged” – but the system in DC is.

Mail-in voting isn’t “corrupt” – but the DC politicians padding their stock portfolios while gutting the services working families rely on are.

When I got to Congress, I was shocked by the corruption. It’s somehow become normalized that nearly half of Congress are millionaires and billionaires. Our so-called leaders go to DC, enrich themselves and their donors, and forget about who they’re supposed to represent.

That’s why I launched this campaign for Senate seven months ago. Systemic change is the only way we’ll bring back the abundance that I knew growing up in Alaska. And the only way we’ll be able to lower costs and deliver on our fish, family, freedom agenda is by fixing the rigged system in DC.

Folks in DC don’t like that I’m calling out their corruption. They’d rather keep things the way they are, because they’re the only ones this broken system works for. That’s why they’re spending tens of millions of dollars to defeat me.

So far this year, we’ve raised more than $15 million from nearly 140,000 unique donors. My opponent, incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan, has raised less than $4 million – and a whole lot of that comes from corporate interests, CEOs, and the Seattle trawling industry that’s hurting Alaska.

These fundraising totals are a clear indication that Alaskans are ready for change, but they don’t tell the whole story.

They don’t show that my opponent has $10 million in campaign contributions banked as he’s been taking donations from corporate interests for the last 12 years to gear up for this race.

They don’t reflect that we are currently being pummeled on the airwaves because my opponent is backed by several DC super PACs that are pouring tens of millions of dollars into this race to attack me and prop him up.

Any time Alaskans turn on the TV, they’re seeing ads smearing me and my record. And with the Supreme Court’s recent ruling that allows nearly unlimited coordination between candidates and their party committees, their advantage is only going to get worse.

Over the next three and a half months, these DC groups are going to pour even more money into this election. They think Alaska is for sale, and that our votes and our voices can be bought. They’re wrong.

This onslaught of money is a prime example of the system mobilizing to protect itself. They know that I’ll fight to pass a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United and return political power to working people, not corporations.

I grew up salmon fishing here with my father, and when I was 14, I became a commercial fishing permit holder. Decades later, I’m still spending long days putting up fish at fish camp every summer, only now it’s my kids and grandkids beside me.

I want my kids, grandkids, and future generations to inherit the same Alaska I knew growing up. A place of abundance. But unfortunately, that Alaska is slipping away.

The fish that used to fill our freezers are smaller and harder to find, and the communities that depend on them are suffering. When I started fishing on the Kusko, six salmon returned for every spawning fish. Today, the return rate is less than one.

The truth is, out-of-state factory trawlers and excessive bycatch are hurting Alaska. They are sweeping up more than 140 million pounds of bycatch every year and damaging our fisheries. But instead of reining in corporate trawlers, folks in DC are giving into their pressure. And Alaska subsistence, sport, and family commercial fishing are being hurt while the corporations doing the damage are being protected.

This is just one of too many examples of the corruption that’s taken over DC and is bleeding Alaska dry. The politicians that are supposed to represent us – including my opponent – are instead doing the bidding of corporate trawlers and the other Lower 48 special interests who fund their campaigns. They’re trading stocks and taking meetings with the same CEOs driving up our costs and draining our rivers of fish. And their self-dealing is hurting Alaskans.

My opponent Dan Sullivan has accepted nearly $400,000 in donations from the trawling industry. My Senate campaign has taken $0.

Over the past few months, I’ve spoken with Alaskans from Ketchikan to Fairbanks. I’ve talked with Elders in tears about their empty fish racks, and families stretching paychecks so thin you can see through them – just to afford the skyrocketing cost of gas and groceries.

From Juneau to Utqiaġvik, our state is struggling. Prices keep rising. Every Alaskan is feeling the weight of crushing costs, and no one in DC is doing anything about it.

We can ban factory trawling and restore our fisheries – but it starts with sending leaders to DC who actually know what it’s like to live here and to rely on fishing to feed our families.

We can bring down the cost of groceries, fuel, healthcare, childcare, and housing – but it starts with fixing the rigged system in DC that rewards self-preservation over service and puts corporate special interests in the driver’s seat instead of Alaskans.
