understands how you think. An employer sees more than a CV. Someone forwards your work into a room you were never invited into. By the time an opportunity reaches you, part of the introduction has already happened.

You stop entering every conversation as a stranger. Your work starts travelling further than you can.

I am still building that myself. I have spent the past months publishing, testing formats, watching some posts disappear immediately and seeing others begin to create recognition. Enough to understand that keeping an account active and building a reputation are completely different activities.

If every account went back to zero tomorrow, this is the plan I would follow.

The first question would be what being known should eventually produce. It could lead to clients, a better role, speaking invitations, a paid newsletter or enough demand to launch a product. Each outcome requires a different audience.

A local barber can build a valuable personal brand without becoming known outside the city. A strategist selling high-value work may need a few hundred relevant people more than a hundred thousand passive followers. Someone trying to move into a senior creative role needs visibility among the people who influence those decisions.

Follower count is seductive because it is public and easy to compare. It can also waste months of attention.

For the next 90 days, I would focus on turning expertise into clients and professional opportunities.

By the end of the quarter, someone should be able to discover the work, understand the problem I solve and have enough evidence to decide whether my judgment is worth paying for.

Find the idea you want attached to your name

Most people start by deciding what to post.

I would start by deciding what I want to become known for seeing.

Marketing, fitness, fashion and leadership are broad territories. They say where someone operates without giving the audience much reason to remember them.

A strength coach saying, “I help women become the strongest version of themselves,” sounds positive and disappears almost immediately.

“I help busy women build visible strength through three-day programs designed around progression rather than exhaustion” creates a sharper picture.

There is a specific constraint and a judgment inside the positioning: much of the fitness industry has confused intensity with progress.

That judgment can shape program reviews, critiques of popular workouts and explanations of why someone can train constantly while barely moving forward. The audience starts recognising the person’s way of seeing.

I would spend the first few days defining whose attention matters.

“Founders” is probably too wide. “Founder-led businesses that have grown faster than their brand” contains more tension. The company has become credible, while the website, identity or messaging still makes it look smaller than it is.

The easiest positions to build around are problems people recognise before they discover you. The frustration already exists. Your work gives it a clearer diagnosis.

This is where most positioning becomes vague.

Vagueness feels safe because it keeps every possible customer inside the description. The result usually includes everyone and moves nobody.

The first position does not need to define the rest of your career. It needs enough shape to become visible.

Then I would decide what the category repeatedly gets wrong.

Many rebrands attempt to solve business problems through aesthetics. A large amount of fitness content is designed around the sensation of effort rather than measurable progression. Personal brands often spend so much time performing credibility that they never reveal how the person actually thinks.

A useful point of view often begins as irritation. You notice the same weak assumption appearing across companies, clients or conversations until it becomes difficult to ignore.

Before publishing, I would also define something people could buy.

The offer can change once real customers appear. It still needs to exist in rough form because it determines what kind of attention is useful.

A strategist can build an audience around famous campaigns and advertising news. Those subjects already have cultural energy. Someone who enjoys a post about Nike does not automatically see the writer as capable of repositioning their company.

A trainer can grow through recipes, routines and motivational clips while intending to sell programming. The audience may enjoy the content while valuing the wrong part of the expertise.

The first offer should be easy to understand and attached to a recognisable problem.

There are only a few recent posts, and much of the product imagery feels designed to keep the account active rather than make the brand culturally present.

Then you open Philipp Plein’s personal profile and the machine starts again. The villas and cars are still there, alongside business updates and family content.

The founder remains highly visible. The brand appears to have lost an independent voice.

This could be read as evidence that Philipp Plein is disappearing. It is not. The group still reports more than 110 mono-brand stores, over 700 employees and annual turnover above €200 million. In 2022, the main Philipp Plein line generated €215 million in net global revenue.

It remains a serious independent fashion business whose cultural position is much weaker than its commercial footprint.

Thanks for reading Maximum Core! He studied law, moved into furniture and became known for producing expensive dog beds before clothing became the centre of the business.

That outsider status helped him notice a customer many established houses understood poorly.

During the first half of the 2010s, luxury was becoming louder. Instagram turned consumption into public performance, while hip-hop was moving from influencing fashion to reorganising its centre. A growing customer wanted luxury that could be recognised immediately. The product had to carry its price across a room.

Plein understood that appetite early.

His clothes used skulls and crystals with almost no restraint. His runway shows became spectacles involving rappers and vehicles, supported by enormous production budgets. He worked with figures such as Snoop Dogg while many European houses were still deciding how close they wanted to stand to the culture shaping their younger customers.

To the fashion establishment, much of it looked vulgar. To Plein’s audience, it was legible.

That distinction built the company.

Between roughly 2010 and 2016, Philipp Plein occupied a real cultural position. It was the house of new wealth during the peak of Instagram maximalism. It was loud because its customer wanted to be seen.

The mistake came later. A successful aesthetic was treated as a permanent identity.

Recognition never became a world

The skull became synonymous with Philipp Plein. So did the crystals and aggressive surface treatment.

These were powerful recognition devices. They were never developed into a mythology with enough depth to survive a change in taste.

A code makes a product identifiable. A brand world gives people a reason to remain attached when the code falls out of fashion.

Versace’s Medusa belongs to a wider universe shaped by Italian excess and the memory of Gianni Versace. At Plein, the skull was repeatedly applied to familiar objects until the repetition itself became the design philosophy.

My original diagnosis described it as a formula applied to objects, never built into a world.

For several years, the formula and the culture supported each other. Then the customer changed.

The people who grew up around hip-hop accumulated more money and developed a more sophisticated relationship with fashion. Some moved towards established houses. Others found younger labels such as Fear of God and Amiri, which carried cultural edge through a more coherent design language.

Plein had recognised this audience before much of luxury took it seriously. By the end of the decade, he no longer owned it.

The brand remained attached to the visual language of the moment in which it first succeeded.

The price stayed high while the signal weakened

Philipp Plein still prices itself alongside major luxury houses.

Its official outlet simultaneously advertises reductions of up to 75 percent. At the time of research, a crystal T-shirt originally priced at €1,000 was listed at €300. Another shirt had fallen from €870 to €261.

These discounts do more than move old inventory. They teach customers how seriously to take the original price.

The same tension exists in the wider brand architecture. The group operates Plein Sport and Billionaire, while the main name has expanded through licensed categories. Each extension may create revenue. Together, they make the source of the brand’s value harder to locate.

This would matter less if Philipp Plein had one product capable of anchoring the house.

Most enduring luxury brands possess an object that carries meaning beyond a particular campaign. Plein has recognisable motifs and recurring sneaker designs. It does not have one product whose cultural importance has become independent of the founder or the discount cycle.

Recognition alone cannot justify a premium indefinitely.

Price is decided by the company. Prestige is negotiated by the market.

The founder became the mythology

Philipp Plein has always been the brand’s most convincing advertisement.

He lives inside the promise he sells. The houses and parties make the brand feel like an extension of one man’s actual desires rather than a story invented by a marketing department.

That authenticity powered the company. It also limited how far the house could develop beyond him.

The contrast between the two Instagram accounts makes the dependency visible. The personal profile still communicates a complete world, even when people dislike that world. The official brand account has products but little point of view.

When the founder is present, the brand has energy. When he steps away, there is little institutional mythology left to speak on his behalf. No independent creative authority has been allowed to reinterpret the codes for a different cultural moment.

The brand remains trapped inside the personality that made it successful.

What Philipp Plein could still become

Removing every skull and producing a restrained collection designed to win fashion approval would erase the recognition the company spent decades building.

The more credible route would preserve Plein’s outsider history while reducing its dependence on the founder. A creative director could reinterpret the house, while the main line is protected from public discounting and given greater distance from Plein Sport.

The company would also need one product capable of being desirable before the customer notices the logo. A genuine hero product would give the market something specific to reconsider without requiring it to accept an entire rebrand at once.

Philipp Plein’s greatest achievement was seeing a customer before the rest of fashion did. Its central failure was assuming that customer would want the same signal forever.

Thanks for reading Maximum Core! their life and says they still do not feel like an adult. Everyone laughs because everyone understands. The age is real, but only on paper.

I have never met anyone who says, “Yes, I do feel 60.” They might say they feel tired, old, happy or sad, but they do not feel their current age. I am 30 now, but I feel stuck somewhere around 25. Maybe it will change, maybe not.

30 used to arrive with evidence, 40 even more so.

There was usually a home that felt permanent, a marriage or a career that appeared settled. You could look at someone’s life and understand where they were in it. These milestones did more than organise adulthood. They made it visible.

That sequence was never as universal as nostalgia suggests. Plenty of people struggled, divorced or lived lives that did not fit it. Still, the culture offered a recognisable template. Adulthood had a public shape, or at least a template to follow, and most people were successful at following it.

Thanks for reading Maximum Core! By 2024, fewer than 25% had done the same, and it does not look like things are going to get better.

The important shift is not simply that everything happens later. The sequence itself has become unreliable.

You can have a serious job while living in your childhood bedroom. You can own an apartment and still feel that your career has barely begun. At 30, one friend may be choosing a nursery while another is moving back home after the end of a relationship.

They are the same age. They no longer seem to occupy the same stage of life. Everything feels more chaotic now. Entropy is our life.

Marriage is one of the clearest examples. Across the EU, people are marrying later than they did 20 years ago. In 2024, the average age at first marriage reached the mid-30s in parts of Europe.

A 30-year-old who would once have been understood as unusually late can now be completely ordinary.

Marriage is no longer treated as the automatic destination of every serious relationship. People cohabit for longer, date without a fixed timetable and move through more than one significant partnership before settling down, when they settle down at all.

Relationships have become more reversible.

A relationship can structure your entire life for 5 years without producing any institution that survives it. When it ends, there may be no divorce and no public change in status. From the outside, you are simply single again.

The person who seemed settled at 29 can be back on a dating app at 31, trying to understand what kind of life they are building now. The apartment disappears. Shared friends divide. An entire version of adulthood can be reversed in a few weeks.

Housing makes this uncertainty more material.

In 2024, Europeans left the parental home at an average age of 26.2, but the figure exceeded 30 in Croatia, Slovakia and several Southern European countries. Younger people were also more likely to live in households where housing consumed at least 40% of disposable income.

The same salary can produce adulthood in one city and prolonged dependence in another.

Home ownership has become a poor measure of personal maturity. It increasingly reflects geography, inheritance and the moment at which someone entered the market. High prices and borrowing costs have placed ownership beyond the reach of many younger adults, while renting offers little sense of permanence in expensive cities.

Boomers like to say that this generation is useless and cannot achieve much, while trying to sell houses they bought for thousands in the 1980s for millions now.

A person can be emotionally independent and professionally competent while remaining materially unable to construct the life those qualities were once expected to produce.

Work has lost some of its power to settle the question too.

Having a job once implied entering a profession and gradually becoming established within it. Many people now experience work as a sequence of roles with no obvious final destination. Changing jobs can bring better money or more autonomy, but it also makes it harder to identify the moment when a career has truly begun.

You can spend 10 years working and continue to describe yourself as figuring things out, which I feel most people do.

The result is a strange extension of youth that is partly chosen and partly imposed. People have more freedom to leave relationships that do not work and rebuild careers that feel wrong. At the same time, the economic structures required for independence have become harder to reach.

Someone who delays marriage may be protecting their freedom. Someone else may simply be unable to afford the home in which they imagined starting a family. From the outside, both appear to be postponing adulthood.

This is where the language becomes revealing.

30-year-olds are still regularly described as young people. Brands market youthfulness far beyond youth. Dating culture treats many relationships as exploratory well into the years once associated with settlement. Even the phrase adulting turns ordinary maintenance into a temporary performance, something you do rather than something you are.

Without shared milestones, adulthood has become increasingly self-declared.

The need those milestones used to satisfy has not disappeared. People still want to know they have become someone.

So they search for smaller forms of evidence. They furnish rental apartments as though permanence might be created through the right chair. They build routines that make a provisional life feel more structured. Taste begins carrying some of the psychological weight once held by institutions.

This may explain why adulthood now often appears aesthetic before it becomes material.

A shelf of figures, one finished room or a wardrobe built around a specific idea can feel strangely important. These are small, resolvable decisions inside a life stage full of large, unresolved ones.

A taste can be settled this month regardless of what is happening with the mortgage, the job title or the relationship.

You can learn to cook properly, buy expensive bedding and develop firm opinions about lighting while remaining uncertain about where you will live in 2 years. These choices create control over the part of life that can still be controlled.

Cope.

The old markers were never proof of emotional maturity. Marriage could conceal dependency. A mortgage could coexist with chaos. A respected profession could belong to someone who had never chosen it freely.

Yet those structures gave people social confirmation. They told you when one chapter had ended and another had begun.

Today, adulthood is expected to emerge internally while the external evidence arrives unevenly, if it arrives at all.

This leaves 30 in an unusual position. It is still treated as a deadline, but the life it once measured against has disappeared. People approach the birthday with an inherited sense that something should have happened by now, even when they no longer believe in the sequence that produced that expectation.

The anxiety is not always about wanting marriage or property. It comes from having no replacement definition.

Age keeps moving with perfect clarity. Everything around it has become negotiable.

At 30, you know you are no longer young in the way you once were. Whether you have become an adult may depend on money, geography or the timing of a relationship.

The birthday arrives. And if you’re lucky, the evidence does too.

Thanks for reading Maximum Core! Digital contact fills hours, but it rarely gives anyone a fixed place in another person’s week.

Churches still do.

There is a service at the same time each week. Smaller groups continue the contact outside the main gathering. Volunteering gives people a role beyond simply attending.

Across countries, the format changes while the structure remains familiar. People return at a fixed time, see many of the same faces and gradually become useful to the group.

A cafe can make someone familiar and coworking can create repeated contact; neither gives another person much reason to depend on you.

Churches tend to go further. Someone prepares the room. Another person runs a group or checks in during the week. Attendance becomes participation, and participation makes absence visible.

Research on social places supports that distinction. One large-scale study found that restaurants and indoor recreation were more likely to reinforce friendships that already existed, while places of worship were more likely to create ties across separate social circles.

The church gives those relationships somewhere to continue.

In Atlanta, 2819 Church grew from fewer than 200 weekly attendees to around 6,000 in two years, largely among young adults. Its professional production and direct language make it feel contemporary, while the social model is much older.

Most commercial attempts to build community are designed around low commitment. A coworking membership gives access to a room. A community app gives access to a feed. A branded event gathers people once, takes photographs and disappears until the next launch.

These formats are easy to enter and equally easy to leave. Nobody needs an explanation when you stop attending. Often, nobody notices.

Real belonging contains some obligation. You are expected somewhere. Someone has saved a seat or assigned you a task. The group continues without you, while your absence changes the room slightly.

Religious institutions have spent centuries building social life around repetition. Belief remains central and is carried through a structure that many secular institutions no longer provide.

That may explain part of the appeal of contemporary churches among people who have no shortage of interaction but few stable commitments outside work.

Modern life offers endless opportunities to meet people and fewer reasons to keep meeting the same ones.

When someone misses two Sundays, another person may ask where they were.

Thanks for reading Maximum Core! Families bought larger homes, filled them with furniture, opened joint bank accounts and generated predictable spending over decades.
