Hi guys! Hope you’re having a good weekend. I’m actually writing this a little early because Morgan and I will be out of town when this goes live. We’re heading to Utah this weekend to celebrate a friend’s 40th and I’m VERY excited for that!

Anyways, I’m back with another Megan’s Monthly aka all the random things I’m loving, watching, reading, eating, wearing, thinking about, etc. right now.

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these because I’ve enjoyed writing the deeper, more personal articles on Substack, but it’s fun to sprinkle in some lightness too! Honestly, this is sometimes my favorite type of content to consume. I’m always interested in what other people are into, so I hope you enjoy these!

There are always things I’m thinking about, struggling with, changing my mind about, or just figuring out in real time that don’t necessarily make it onto Stories. So after all of my usual monthly favorites, I’m sharing a few of those things too. More on that below :)

MEGAN’S MONTHLY

What I’m listening to:

• Emma Grede’s podcast - I’m such a fan of Emma and always get so much from her episodes! I’m currently on the Jennifer Garner episode! I love a good podcast that I can put on while I’m driving, walking, getting ready, etc., and I’m always entertained by hearing women talk about building careers and businesses.

5 things I’m loving right now:

1. U Beauty Super Body Hydrator - A peptide body lotion for crepey skin because…hello, 40s! I’ve been paying so much more attention to the skin on my body lately instead of putting ALL of my effort into my face, and I’m really loving this.

2. My current dry-skin fix - I have SUPER dry skin and have been loving this cream. It’s THICK, but once it melts into your skin, it’s incredible. And it’s not crazy expensive either, which we love.

3. Weekend sauna + body gua sha - This has become such a nice little weekend habit for me. Sauna, followed by a long body gua sha. It feels so good and forces me to slow down for a minute, which I clearly need. Any other Type 3 Enneagrams??

4. Cannon Camera - Our Creative Director had this camera and I HAD to copy her after she brought it to a shoot. It truly takes the best photos - really good vibe.

5. Matte Setting Spray - I really need my makeup to last all day - even through shooting work outs then heading to meetings, events, and while teaching outside. This stuff works! Can’t rec it enough if you need your makeup to look fresh for a long time.

What I’m reading:

• Into the Magic Shop - I just ordered this after my sister recommended it! It’s basically about a neurosurgeon who explores the connection between the mind and the heart, and how things like mindfulness and visualization can actually change your life. Haven’t started yet, but I’m very intrigued.

• Yesteryear - Also just ordered Yesteryear because EVERYONE seems to be talking about it and the reaction has been insane. Will report back! LMK your thoughts if you’ve read in comments!

What I’m watching:

• ‘Sterling Point’ - Just started this and yes, it’s a little cheesy, but sometimes that is exactly what I want. Such an easy watch.

• ‘Open Door: Kristin Cavallari’: I loooove this YT series in general (if you haven’t watched, you must…it’s such an easy, soothing, quick watch). Kristin’s house was stunning, of course!

• Dark Chocolate Protein Granola Bowl - My latest breakfast hyperfixation! I’ve been making this on repeat, especially after a TSS workout. It has a ton of protein, actually keeps me full, and somehow tastes like I’m eating dessert for breakfast.

• Burgers! I have to have one about once a week.

• Lots of TSS recipes - If I’m cooking, it’s usually from the TSS Nutrition section. We have tons of delicious, healthy recipes that make eating well feel really easy, which is exactly how I want food to feel.

• Goop Kitchen. Probably my most ordered lunch option. Anyone else obsessed?

What I’m working on:

Seeing my friends more!

This sounds like such a simple one, but one of the things I’m really trying to prioritize right now is making actual plans with friends at least twice a month.

Friendships as an adult are tough…especially when you move to a new city. We have friends in LA, but everyone is so spread out and busy with their own kids, work, lives, etc. that you can go way too long without actually seeing each other. Between work and being a mom, friendship is sadly probably one of the first things I let fall to the bottom of my list.

As I mentioned, Morgan and I are with friend in Utah this weekend, and it’s basically our first true friend time/time off in a WHILE. I’m so excited, but it also made me realize how much I’ve been missing that part of my life.

Which brings me to something new I want to try here…

A few things I’m not sharing on IG

I obviously share a lot of my life online. But Instagram is also really good at capturing the things that are easy to show: the workout, the outfit, the work trip, the kids being cute, the dinner out. It’s not always where I naturally share the stuff I’m still figuring out.

So I thought it could be fun to start adding a little section to Megan’s Monthly where I tell you a few things that are actually on my mind right now. Not necessarily huge revelations. Just the more honest, BTS stuff that probably isn’t making it to my IG.

This month: something I’m struggling with, something I’ve completely changed my mind about, and a very real working-mom update…

I love being a mom. It is the most important role I have, and my kids are obviously a huge part of how I make decisions about my life.

But I’m also a person with a career that I LOVE. Truly!

Sometimes that career means I’m on a plane. Sometimes it means I’m in New York for a few days. Sometimes it means I have a dinner, an event, a shoot, or a meeting that takes me away from home.

And I feel incredibly lucky that I get to have both as a working mom!

We’ve come a LONG way when it comes to women and work. Women now make up almost half of the workforce, 47.1% of employed people in the U.S. And nearly 74% of moms with kids under 18 are in the labor force (according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics)…which is very, very cool to me.

Working moms are not the exception. We’re everywhere!

But sometimes I wonder if our expectations have actually caught up with that reality? Because even though we’re completely used to women having careers, there are still these little moments that remind me how differently we think about working moms and working dads.

And most of the time, I don’t even think people realize they’re doing it. I mean, I know I do it without meaning to as well.

There’s one question I get ALL the time when I travel for work that makes me think about this every single time.

I know people don’t mean anything by it. They’re not trying to be rude or make some big statement about working moms…and again, I sometimes ask the same exact question.

But it drives me a little crazy when people ask me. Because every time someone asks me, I have the exact same thought: Would you ask my husband that?

So let’s talk about it…

Something came up for me this week, and it felt like a convo that a lot of my friends are having.

I spend a lot of my life thinking, talking, and learning about health - what we can do now to feel good today and hopefully still feel good decades from now.

I want to feel strong and energized. I want to sleep well. I want to take care of my body and my mind. I want to do the little things that can help me feel as confident as I can while aging

…and a part of that is wanting to look good. There, I said it haha!

I’ve always loved the line that the least interesting thing about a woman is how she looks. I agree! How I look is nowhere near the most important or interesting thing about me. But does that mean I don’t want to feel good when I look in the mirror? Of course not.

I don’t think we talk enough about how those two things can exist at the same time.

I am not anti-aging. I don’t want to “fight” getting older. Getting older is the goal! I feel incredibly lucky to be 40, and I hope I get to experience many, many more birthdays.

But somewhere along the way, I think we created this idea that really embracing aging means you’re supposed to be completely indifferent to how you look while doing it.

…and I’m just not.

I want to look and feel my best for as long as I can. Not 25. Not like somebody else. But basically my best at whatever age I’m at. Just my best, you know?

I shared a list on Instagram today of some of the things I’m doing at 40 to look and feel my best. Some are things I’ve done forever, some are newer, and some are just products I really love right now.

But there was one thing I almost left off. Botox.

Which is funny, because Botox isn’t actually a secret. My friends know I get it. We talk about it. It’s not really a big deal anymore, especially in LA and in the industry I’m in. Among women in their mid-30s, 40s and beyond, it feels pretty normal in my circles.

But I’ll be super honest, when we were putting together that list, my first instinct was, maybe we just don’t need to include that one.

Why? Not because I’m ashamed of it. Because I was already anticipating what people might think. And once I realized that was why I wanted to leave it off, I knew there was probably a bigger conversation here.

A little change around here

The timing also feels pretty aligned because I have some Substack news.

Starting with this post, I’m adding a paid subscription.

But I promise, nothing is going away! In fact, the opposite as I’m dedicating more time to Substack each week. But I’ve wanted a place to go a little deeper and get more personal. Think extra sends, conversations I’m having in real life, and the subjects I sometimes hesitate to talk about because I know people will have opinions.

Basically, I want the paid side of this newsletter to be where I can share the things I might hesitate to share with a bigger audience. Which brings me right back to Botox.

I went back and forth on whether I wanted to talk about it with my community. But then I realized that hesitation is actually exactly what I do want to talk about - just with a smaller, closer group.

And when I thought about it that way, it felt like a pretty perfect place to start. So apparently we’re starting with my face :)

Lately I’ve been realizing that so much of parenting happens in the moments you don’t even think about. Before I had kids, I imagined there would be these big conversations one day. The ones where I’d teach Harlow and Mercer about confidence, kindness, resilience...all the things I hope they carry with them.

But now I’m realizing that’s not exactly how it works.

It's the little things we say every day. The way we react when something doesn't go as planned. The words we use when we talk about ourselves. How we treat people. The way we move through hard moments.

Morgan and I are figuring this whole parenting thing out as we go (like every parent), but there are a handful of phrases that have quietly become part of our home.

“No big deal. We’ll figure it out.”

This might be the phrase we say the most.

Something spills? No big deal. Plans change? No big deal. A toy breaks? We’ll figure it out.

Of course there are moments in life that are a big deal. But so much of life isn’t. I don’t want their first instinct to be panic when something unexpected happens. I want them to believe they’re capable of figuring things out.

I think confidence starts there.

“Good things keep happening to you.”

One thing my parents were really intentional about was helping my sisters and me see the good. They modeled optimism in a way that never felt forced or unrealistic, and it’s something I’ve found myself wanting to pass along to Harlow and Mercer.

Life isn't always easy, and I don't want my girls to grow up thinking it is. But I do want them to believe there's almost always something worth noticing…even on the shitty days.

So I started saying, “Good things keep happening to you.”

It can be something as small as finding a great parking spot, spotting a penny on the sidewalk, or, in Harlow’s case, getting her favorite color sticker from the grocery clerk.

Now she says it before I do.

She’ll point something out and say, “Mom! Good things keep happening to us” and every time she does, it makes me keep like we’re doing something right - which as a parent, we could all use more of, right?

I really believe the things we pay attention to shape the way we experience the world. My hope is that as my girls grow up, and their own inner voices start to take shape, they instinctively look for what's good, hopeful, and possible.

“Want to try?”

I once had a friend tell me, “Independence is messy,” and it’s always stuck with me.

Morgan and I have become really intentional about letting the girls do things for themselves. In our house, we call them our “expectations.” They’re the little responsibilities that come with being a member of our family.

Helping make breakfast. Pouring their own water. Carrying their backpacks. Putting their plates in the sink. Using (kid-safe) knives in the kitchen when we’re making dinner.

It almost always takes longer, and let’s just say…it’s definitely messier. But to us, that’s the point.

I want Harlow and Mercer to grow up knowing they’re capable. Not just of doing things for themselves, but of contributing. Of being helpful. Of understanding that being part of a family means we all take care of each other.

I don’t think confidence comes from someone telling you you’re capable. I think it comes from doing something you weren’t sure you could do...and realizing you actually can.

I've also caught myself trying to say "Be careful" a little less. Instead, I try to say things like, "You've got this," or "Take your time." It's a tiny shift, but I'm hoping it teaches them to trust themselves instead of leading with fear.

“Take a breath.”

Something I’ve become more aware of lately is that my girls are learning just as much from how I handle my emotions as they are from anything I say.

If I’m frustrated, I don’t try to pretend I’m not. I'll tell them, "I'm feeling really frustrated right now. I'm going to take a breath." Then I actually take a few deep breaths with them.

I don’t want them to think being strong means never having hard feelings. I want them to know that everyone has hard feelings. Learning how to move through them is the skill.

“You don’t have to hug anyone.”

This has always been important to Morgan and me.

We teach the girls to say hello to people they know. To thank people. To wave goodbye. To be kind. But if they don’t want to hug someone, they don’t have to…not even family.

I want them to know they can be respectful while still having boundaries. Those two things can exist together, and I hope they grow up feeling confident honoring both.

“I am capable.”

We have a few little affirmations we come back to often.

“I am strong.” “I am kind.” “I can do hard things.” “I am capable.”

They’re simple, but I think the words we hear over and over eventually become the words we say to ourselves.

The older Harlow and Mercer get, the more I realize they’re always watching. Not just when I’m intentionally trying to teach them something. They’re watching how I speak to people. How I react when things don’t go as planned. Whether I apologize. Whether I laugh at myself. Whether I take care of myself.

It’s a good reminder that the example we set is probably more powerful than anything we say. And maybe that’s the funny thing about motherhood. I spend so much time thinking about the women I hope my girls become, but writing this made me realize these are the same things I’m trying to practice myself.

We’ll figure it out. Look for the good. Take a breath. Trust yourself.

Somehow, in trying to shape them, they’re shaping me too.

I always get asked where I eat when I’m in New York, so here’s a little roundup of the spots we went to on our latest trip. This list is a mix of classics that we’ve loved since living there, vibey dinners, casual staples, and places I’ll absolutely go back to next time.

There truly is no where like NYC food scene and energy. Enjoy the list!

Frenchette

We went to Frenchette in Tribeca for Morgan’s birthday dinner and the vibe was exactly what you want from a downtown New York restaurant: beautiful, dimly lit and lively.

We mistakenly brought the girls, which…I would not recommend lol. Definitely not what I’d call kid-friendly. This is more of a date night/martinis with friends kind of place.

I got the steak frites, which fully lived up to the hype.

Seventy Seven Alley

Favorite meal of the trip. We went with another couple we hadn’t seen in a while and had one of those long dinners where everything felt easy and fun.

Our reservation was at 5 p.m. but by the time we left the restaurant was completely packed and a really good crowd/feel.

Everything we ordered was delicious, and Morgan and I talked about it for days.

Grand Banks

Grand Banks in the summer is special. It’s actually on a boat docked along the Hudson, so mixed with the good weather, it officially felt like summertime in NYC.

One warning though: if you get seasick easily, this may not be your place because the boat definitely rocks.

I had an Aperol spritz and we shared a bunch of apps: Caesar salad, fries, ceviche, and dips. This place is less about having a big formal meal and more about hanging out for a few hours with drinks, snacks, and 10/10 views.

San Vicente Bungalows

We went to the New York location of San Vicente Bungalows and the interiors are stunning. Dark, cozy, chic in that effortless way.

The only downside for me was that the menu felt very similar to Los Angeles. I was secretly hoping for something a little more New York-specific, but aesthetically? Absolutely gorgeous.

Warren Street Bar

I loved this spot. We actually went for both breakfast and dinner during the trip.

For breakfast, I had the omelet and was obsessed. For dinner, I got the burger and fries, which is not pictured because apparently I forgot to document it before inhaling it, and it was honestly so good.

Also, the interiors here are beautiful. Colorful, cozy and warm. One of those restaurants that would be a regular if we still lived there.

The Odeon

A true Tribeca staple and old-school New York in the best way!

No matter what time you go, it somehow always feels alive in there. The lighting, the booths, the people-watching…it’s one of those places that reminds me why New York restaurants are so iconic.

If you’re visiting downtown and want that classic NYC energy, this is it.

Sant Ambroeus

Another classic and forever a good choice for brunch or dinner.

I feel like Sant Ambroeus somehow manages to feel chic and relaxed at the same time, which is probably why I always end up there at least once every trip.

Perfect for a long brunch, pasta dinner, or just coffee if you need a reset between meetings, shopping, or walking 20,000 steps around the city.

Westville

I genuinely wish LA had Westville.

This is one of my forever casual faves for brunch, lunch, or dinner because there are so many options and everything feels fresh, easy, and satisfying. Plus, it’s kid-friendly with great outdoor sidewalk tables (people watching!).

I always want it at least once when I’m in New York.

Pura Vida

We ended up here for a more casual healthy meal and it really hit the spot. I got a huge Greek salad with chicken and it was exactly what I wanted after a stretch of heavier dinners and lots of eating out. Fresh, healthy, easy.

Juice Generation

Still my go-to smoothies. Another place I wish existed in LA!

Honestly, one of my favorite things about New York is that you can do both extremes so well. One night is steak frites and wine in Tribeca, and the next day is a smoothie and a giant salad while walking around the city.

Earlier this week, I got in the car after visiting a future elementary school for Harlow and just sat there feeling completely overwhelmed.

Not because anything went wrong. Everything was actually great.

The school was wonderful. The parents were nice. It should’ve left feeling excited.

Instead, all I could think was: How are we supposed to do all of this?

Not just the school decisions themselves…although that alone feels consuming, but the sheer logistics of life at this stage.

The pickup schedules.
The forms.
The future planning.
The activities.
The mental tabs constantly open in my brain at all times.

And that’s just the mom stuff…

Underneath all of it was this feeling I couldn’t shake: life suddenly feels so much bigger and busier…and exhausting, tbh.

Later that same day, I was in a meeting with a few team members - all moms, all in similar seasons of life - and in the middle of the conversation, I unexpectedly started crying.

Not dramatic crying or because one huge thing happened. Just the kind of crying that comes when you’ve been carrying too much for too long.

And the second it happened, they all looked at me with immediate understanding. No explanation needed.

Because they felt it, too.

That moment stayed with me all week because I realized how many of us are probably walking around looking “fine” while quietly carrying an enormous invisible weight.

Because modern motherhood feels relentless sometimes.

We’re trying to be present moms, supportive partners, ambitious in our careers, healthy females, emotionally regulated humans, good friends, all at the same time.

And even when you have support, it can still feel like a lot.

I have an incredibly supportive husband. I’ve built my career around wellness and movement. I genuinely believe in taking care of yourself.

My morning workout is often the thing that grounds me before the day begins. The Sculpt Society community constantly reminds me how powerful it is when women prioritize themselves and joy.

But wellness tools don’t erase the reality of how much women are carrying mentally and emotionally every single day.

The endless planning.
The constant anticipating.
The invisible labor of remembering everyone’s needs all the time.

And then there’s the guilt layered on top of it all!

The feeling that no matter where you are, another part of your life needs something from you, too.

When you’re working, you wonder if you’re present enough at home.
When you’re fully with your kids, your mind drifts to everything waiting for you later.
When you take time for yourself, there’s guilt.
When you don’t, you feel depleted.

It can feel impossible to fully win.

And honestly? I don’t think moms are failing. I think the expectations are impossible.

We’ve normalized carrying a level of mental and emotional load that no one was ever meant to manage alone…while also pretending we’re handling it easily.

But I think more women are overwhelmed than anyone admits out loud.

I think more moms are crying in their cars after school tours and then hopping onto Zoom meetings five minutes later than we realize.

And maybe what we need most right now isn’t another productivity hack or morning routine.

Maybe we just need honesty.

The kind where we can say: This is hard. I’m overwhelmed a lot of the time. I love my life and I’m exhausted by it, too. Because all things can be true.

That meeting didn’t leave me embarrassed. It truly left me feeling connected. Like maybe one of the most healing things we can do as women is stop pretending we’re all managing perfectly.

To simply say:

I see you.
I know how much you’re carrying.
You’re not alone in feeling this way.

So hey moms…are we okay?

Maybe not all the time. But maybe we’d all feel a little less alone if we started telling each other the truth more often.

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about how much we all carry. Not in a dramatic way, just in the very normal, everyday sense.

The mental tabs open at all times.
The running to-do list.
The constant feeling of being behind on something.

Work, kids, relationships, logistics, everything in between.

And what I’ve been noticing more and more, in women around me and in myself, is not just that we’re busy. It’s that we’ve gotten really used to holding all of it in.

Pushing through. Staying on the hamster wheel. Not really giving ourselves a moment to let things out or get out of our own heads.

Why I Built The Sculpt Society This Way

This is one of the reasons I built The Sculpt Society method in the first place - long before kids, marriage, and everything else that fills my days now.

I wanted workouts - even cardio - to feel like a release. Not another thing to check off. Definitely not something you dread or push through.

But something you actually look forward to - because of how it makes you feel during and after.

That feeling has always been the goal - and really the secret behind TSS.

Building a Campaign Around That Feeling

At the start of the year, my team and I kept coming back to how we could better show this feeling to people. Because while so many of our members know it, there are still people who haven’t experienced it yet.

And interestingly, some of the biggest releases I’ve felt have come from the cardio portions of our workouts - the ones that are often skipped because of the word “cardio.”

For a lot of people, cardio still represents the opposite of a release. Think intense HIIT, treadmill trauma, hours on the stair master - we all know the feeling, right?

So we built The Release Challenge around that idea.

Not just to get people to do cardio, but to change how they feel about it.

To get members who usually skip it to try it.

And to give new people a real experience of what that release actually feels like.

Coachella & Bringing It to Life

Around the same time, we had the opportunity to put up a billboard on the drive into Coachella.

We said yes immediately.

Because what better place to bring this idea to life?

A festival is one of those environments where you naturally let go. You move more freely, you’re out of your head, you’re just in it.

And being there for the first time, I really felt that.

It actually reminded me so much of the feeling I’ve always chased through movement - the same release you get when you’re fully in your body and not overthinking it.

It ended up being one of those moments where everything aligned. The challenge, the campaign, the billboard - it all came back to the same idea.

What I Keep Coming Back To

Release doesn’t have to be big to work. It just has to happen more often.

For me, it’s small moments where you move your body, shift your energy, and let something out instead of holding onto it.

Because when you don’t, everything starts to feel heavier than it actually is.

Small Ways I Find Release

None of these are groundbreaking, but they’re the things I actually come back to:

• Walking without my phone - Even 10 minutes makes a difference and I feel an immediate shift/release.

• A workout - Pretty much all of the TSS workouts give me a release. I press play on full body with cardio for the days I really need to let it out.

• Solo sauna time - It forces you to slow down in a way nothing else does and you are literally releasing sweat and toxins.

• Music in the car, alone - Underrated, but always works.

• Getting ready without rushing - Not always possible, but it changes how your day feels. I’ve been trying to prep more ahead of time so mornings feel less chaotic.

• Gua sha or dry brush - I’ve been getting into lymphatic massage at home, from giving myself facial massages + gua sha, or dry brushing before I shower. Both give me a release and can be done in under 5 minutes.

Ending Thought

We don’t need more intensity. We need more moments where we let things out.

Even small ones. Even imperfect ones.

Because that’s usually what brings you back to yourself a little faster.

Sometimes it looks like a big moment - like a vacation. But most of the time, it’s just something small you decide to do for yourself that day.

Launching The Sculpt Society Nutrition has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. Being able to share my story and the journey that led me here feels incredibly meaningful. I’ve poured so much thought, care, and intention into building something that feels relatable and supportive. There are no diets, no rigid rules, and no restrictions, because I know firsthand what it feels like to be trapped in a never-ending cycle of having a complicated relationship with food (something that took me decades to unlearn, unfortunately).

I wanted to share my story and thought process with you, because this didn’t come from nowhere. It came from lived experience.

MY STORY

It all started my freshman year of college. I grew up as a dancer, and dance was a huge part of my identity. When I went into college, I stopped dancing and that loss hit me harder than I ever expected - and in ways I wasn’t expecting. It was one of the lowest points in my life and I felt completely lost.

So…I turned to food, and more specifically, obsessively controlling food. I started yo-yo dieting, binge eating, and over-exercising. I was trying to control food and my body because everything else in my life felt so out of my control. I struggled deeply with body image and confidence, I counted every calorie, I hated my workouts. I did every workout (soooo much cardio!) with one goal - to burn calories - and I truly thought this was what fitness had to be. Nothing felt good, but I kept pushing because I thought that’s what I was supposed to do.

Looking back, I realize I was avoiding how unhappy I truly was and it makes me feel so sad and protective of the self-conscious girl in these old photos. Not a good time for me! I was using food and control around food to numb the pain of not pursuing what I loved…and overall, it was just one of the hardest periods.

Not long after these unhealthy patterns began, I made the decision to return to dance and join NYU’s Tisch Dance program. While I was once again doing what I loved, the relationship I had with food didn’t magically disappear. Those patterns followed me. Even while chasing my passion, I was still stuck in the same cycle that honestly, so many women find themselves in.

It wasn’t until my mid-20s that things really began to shift, when I discovered intuitive eating through this book. For the first time, I was given tools that helped me heal my relationship with food and experience true food freedom. Safe to say it was one of the most life-changing shifts I’ve made in my life.

It didn’t happen overnight, but I slowly started re-wiring my relationship with food. Then came my relationship with fitness which is a whole other story but essentially how The Sculpt Society was born! With both changes, I realized that both food AND movement could truly be joyful, I just needed to understand what it meant to eat and move intuitively.

WHAT IS INTUITIVE EATING?

Intuitive eating isn’t a diet. It’s not about being “good” or “bad.” There are no rules. At its core, it’s about rebuilding trust with your body after years of being told what to eat, when to eat, and how much to eat. It’s about learning to listen to hunger, fullness, satisfaction, and what genuinely feels good for you.

There are ten principles of intuitive eating:

1. Rejecting diet culture
2. Honoring your hunger
3. Making peace with food
4. Discovering satisfaction
5. Feeling your fullness
6. Challenging the food police
7. Coping with emotions without using food
8. Respecting your body
9. Joyful movement
10. Gentle nutrition

Before gentle nutrition can even come into play, it’s essential to work through the first nine principles. Healing has to come before optimizing.

MY WHY BEHIND TSS NUTRITION

Discovering intuitive eating changed my life in ways I never thought possible. It allowed me to feel stronger, more present, and more at peace in my body. And ultimately, it’s what inspired me to create Nutrition at The Sculpt Society - something I have wanted to bring to TSS for so long, but I wanted to do it right. That’s why we brought in a registered dietitian and intuitive eating expert to partner with us on the recipes and an entire video series on intuitive eating because understanding the principles is CRUCIAL to the healing experience, at least in my case. I definitely recommend watching through our Food Freedom Guide if you’re struggling with food in any way.

At the heart of it all, I believe nutrition should focus fueling and listening to your body, having fun with it, making it easy, and most importantly, being kind to yourself.

Food shouldn’t feel complicated or full of rules. It should feel simple, enjoyable, and supportive of your real life.

If you’ve ever felt stuck in a cycle with food, disconnected from your body, or exhausted by trying to “do it right,” please know you’re not alone. Healing is possible, even if it doesn’t feel that way right now. There is no timeline, no perfection, and no one-size-fits-all approach.

If you’ve been around here for a while, you know I’m a big believer in intuitive eating, trusting your body, and letting food be joyful, not stressful. And now that I have two little girls, I’ve been navigating what that looks like with kids…which, let’s be honest, is a whole adventure of its own.

The girls are still very young, and as someone who struggled with my relationship with food well into adulthood, the last thing I want is to put pressure on them around eating. But it is important to Morgan and me that they’re exposed to different foods. We want them to explore, be curious, and develop their little palettes…at least that’s the hope!

Enter: The Tasting Game aka our family hack for picky eaters.

We learned this from the girls’ preschool during a phase when Harlow was declining pretty much every food group except…pasta and bread. And listen, pasta and bread fully have a place in our home, but we obviously wanted to widen her world a bit.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS

We don’t make separate meals for the girls. Whatever Morgan and I are eating - whether we cooked or ordered in - goes right onto everyone’s plate the same way. Chicken, salad, potatoes…some version of that is a pretty normal night for us.

Once we all sit down, we announce the start of the Tasting Game like it’s a big event: “Okay! Tasting Game time! Everyone takes a bite of…the tomato!”

We all take a bite at the same time and then go around describing the taste and texture: Sweet? Sour? Crunchy? Soft? Slimy?

Kids love a game. Truly. And making it playful gets them curious instead of defensive. Their vocabulary is still growing, but it’s been so fun hearing what they come up with and how seriously they take their descriptions.

Then we “rate it”: thumbs up, thumbs middle, or thumbs down. If it’s a thumbs down, they don’t have to eat any more of it that meal. No pressure, no “just one more bite.” We’re simply glad they tried it.

Of course, this doesn’t work all the time. I’d say it works a solid 80% of the time, which in parent math feels like a miracle.

Sometimes they surprise themselves. Harlow has gone from “I don’t like salad” to “Wait…this is yummy!” and then she keeps eating it. Other times? Hard thumbs down, and we move on. NBD.

ONE THING THAT REALLY HELPS

I always put at least one “safe food” on their plates - something I know they like. For our girls, it’s usually potatoes. Having that comfort item makes the start of the meal smoother because they instantly see something they love and can get started on. It also seems to lower the stakes for something new on their plate.

Btw the way, in general, games work well for our girls. Once they got hooked on rating foods, we started using the thumbs-up/middle/down system for trying all sorts of new things. They just respond better when something feels like play instead of instruction so I’d recommend trying!

This little ritual has taken dinnertime from a negotiation to something we all enjoy (most nights). And it supports something I care deeply about: helping kids build trust with food - without pressure, restriction, or fear.

I started seeing an Executive Coach 9 months ago (more here!) and it’s been one of the best things I’ve done - both personally and professionally.

This particular type of coaching is based on the Enneagram framework, something that Morgan got me into a while back. I’m a big fan of the Enneagram system as it really helps to classify what type of person you are - what drives, motivates, conflicts you, etc. - and is a great self-awareness and growth tool in general. (You can take a test online and read this book to learn everything). To add in the layer of coaching around it has been truly life-changing and something I’m so grateful for. I’ve found more enlightenment vs. traditional therapy, likely because so much of my worth is tied to my career - something we really unpack in coaching.

I thought it’d be cool to start sharing what I’m specifically learning from it - not only for the people who asked me - but to push my boundaries on opening up and being vulnerable.

Especially for any high-achievers (Enneagram 3) who struggle with self-worth and finding your authentic self behind the productivity, I hope you get something out of it. I’m still VERY MUCH a work in progress - will be for life! - but here are the 7 biggest takeaways so far.

1. Redefining What “Enough” Looks Like

This has been one of the hardest shifts for me. I’ve spent so much of my life tying my worth to how much I accomplish in a day. I’m learning that “enough” isn’t a finish line I reach through overworking - it’s a feeling I need to define for myself. I don’t have it nailed, but I’m catching those old patterns sooner and trying to interrupt them with more self-trust.

2. Untangling My Worth from What I Do

As a founder and achiever, my identity has long been tied to productivity. Coaching has made me realize how much I’ve been performing for approval - craving to be seen and valued through output. I’m learning to separate who I am from what I accomplish. Through this vulnerable work (which is hard for me!), I’m opening space for more genuine connection - with myself and others.

3. Leadership Isn’t About Having It All Figured Out

There’s a part of me that feels safest when I’m the one holding everything together. But I’m learning that real leadership is just as much about receiving support as it is about giving it. This looks like building the right team, letting go of control, having hard conversations and being more honest (even when it’s uncomfortable). I’m still figuring this out in real time.

4. Delegating Requires Inner Clarity First

One thing that’s become obvious is that I can’t expect my team to execute well if I’m not clear on what I actually want. I’ve been working on getting clear with myself about what I truly enjoy doing, what drains me, and where I’m holding on out of fear. Delegation isn’t just about handing off tasks - it starts with me getting rooted in what I actually want to own and what I’m ready to release.

5. Emotional Triggers = Information

When I feel frustrated or overwhelmed, my first instinct has been to push through. I’ve been learning to treat those reactions as clues. Coaching has helped me slow down and ask, “What’s underneath this?”. Sometimes it’s about needing better boundaries, sometimes it’s an old pattern showing up. Either way, I’m learning that emotions aren’t problems to solve - they’re invitations to pause and reflect.

6. Letting Go of “Perfect” to Make Space for Realness

Perfection used to feel like protection - it kept me safe, polished, and in control. Lately, I’ve been exploring what happens when I show up as I am: unfinished, unsure, human. Whether it’s posting lo-fi content, leading a messy team conversation, or admitting I don’t have the answer… that realness feels way more powerful than perfection ever did.

7. Building a Business Without Burning Out My Joy

I’m actively working on unlearning the belief that hustle = success. I want to build The Sculpt Society from a place of joy, trust, and creative energy - not stress and over-responsibility. That means redefining what “growth” looks like, allowing space in my schedule, and protecting the things that creatively and personally light me up.

We’re also taking the girls to see family after this and I was in Mexico last week - it’s a lot but I’m truly grateful for this full stage of life, as crazy as it is sometimes.

1. These bronzing face drops - these give a really natural color and are easy to use, which is a must for me w/ self-tanning products.

2. NoBull sneakers - I’m picky about my sneakers and these are SO comfortable! A new brand for me - anyone else like them? I have all my sneakers here by the way.

3. My friend just turned me on to this roll-on deodorant - so good. Smells amazing and is aluminum free.

4. I got some questions on what bra or nipple pads I wear with no-bra tops like this, so wanted to share these reusable pads. The best I’ve found & in heavy rotation this time of year.

5. New TSS activewear - still loving our latest drop, especially our hat! We have limited options left FYI!

• City of Night Birds - story about a ballet dancer for any fellow life-long ballet girls.

• Protein pancakes - We been loving pancake weekend mornings with the girls. It’s such a sweet start to the weekend. I have most of our snacks and Whole Foods orders in this list.

What I’m working on:

• Intuitive drinking - I’m not a huge drinker and like most of us, I feel the effects the next day even after one. But I also love a crisp glass of wine with girlfriends or even a beer to relax. Anyways, on my recent trip to Mexico, I didn’t think I’d be drinking but then once I got there, was feeling the vibe and the delicious food, I ended up having drinks throughout the trip. Obviously not a huge deal and I didn’t go wild but it got me thinking about how important it is to constantly tune in to how you’re feeling - and then not feel guilty about it! Yes, I moved a little slower and probably didn’t sleep as well, but I had a blast with my girlfriends and was immersed in the vacation experience. Sharing this because I never want to give off the impression that I’m perfect with this stuff! If you're interested in exploring more about intuitive eating, this book was life-changing for me. Also made this funny post that I think will resonate with a lot of us :)

This is a topic that I shared about a year ago on my newsletter, but it’s still SUCH a popular topic whenever I post about it. With that, I wanted to make sure it had a place to live forever on my Substack.

HOW WE GOT OUR GIRLS TO SHARE A ROOM

Morgan and I never planned on having the girls share until they were older, but you know how things with kids go. The original plan was that Mercer would use the guest bedroom as her nursery, and Harlow would continue in her room. We knew we eventually wanted the girls to share so that we had a proper guest room/office for me, but the thought of a newborn and a toddler together seemed…very scary.

A friend of ours (who has 3 kids in 1 room) ended up convincing us to give it a try, so as soon as we were ready for Mercer to sleep in her crib, we gave it a shot. I can thankfully say that it was much easier than I was anticipating. (Side note: I don’t like saying anything involving kids is “easy,” because we know it’s not and I never want to come off like I know it all - definitely not the case). It was one of those gifts in parenthood where it worked out more seamlessly than we had expected…and I’ll take it! Here’s what worked for us:

PREPPING HARLOW

As with any transition, we’ve always tried to prep Harlow as much as possible well before the transition. For example, with potty training we read this book and this book and talked her through the process for months before we got started. We read her this book before shifting to a big girl bed and tried to make that experience exciting - we let her pick out her bedding, lots of stories about big girl beds leading up to the day, etc. I don’t know if Harlow is naturally “good” with transitions, but most of them have actually been pretty “easy”. I like to think that prepping her has helped!

When it came to Mercer moving in with her, we did the same thing - lots of cute prep talk before (“sissy is going to have sleepovers with you!”) and we involved her in the process. We asked her where her bed should go, had her tell Mercer that she was going to sleep with her, drew pictures for sissy’s area of the room, etc., and Harlow loved that. We even had her count down the days on the calendar…another thing that made it fun for her.

We also kept the crib in Harlow’s room (even after she got her big girl bed, simply because we didn’t have anywhere else to put it) and I think that made it feel more normal to her - her sissy starting to sleep in it.

GIVE YOURSELF 3-5 DAYS

With any transitions involving kids, we find that it takes 3-5 consistent, solid days for things to settle. Things aren’t always linear, either, but we have always stuck to the plan strongly. These days are always stressful to me, like they were with the first five days of them sharing, but by day 5, we were all sleeping pretty well!

PLAN AHEAD FOR SLEEP

When we first had them share, Mercer was taking 3 naps a day (Harlow had her one long nap), and this was definitely the most stressful part for me. Lots of logistics and trying to plan around each other’s naps - we just had to get creative! For example, we’d try to only bring the girls into the room if someone was in a deep sleep and had time to fall asleep without distractions. We’d also read or do nap prep outside of their bedroom, like in our room or the couch, if someone was sleeping. Staggering their schedules worked whenever it was possible. Obviously there were times when both girls needed to go down at the same time and we didn’t stress too much about it.

REMEMBER THAT KIDS ARE RESILIENT (AND DEEP SLEEPERS!)

I was obviously worried about the girls waking each other up, but honestly, it hasn’t been that big of an issue. When it does happen, they typically fall right back asleep - it’s SO rare that we have to go in there, still to this day. We gently sleep-trained our girls, so this might be because they’ve been used to self-soothing since they were young.

I also think we forget how deep of sleepers kids and babies are - it’s truly not an issue for us. I also like to think that this has helped them because even better sleepers, which I’ll take! Oh also…Morgan was never a fan of sleep machines, so we never went that route (in the long-run I’m grateful for this because they sleep through everything at this point). If you like them or use them, you could always try one out if it makes you feel better - at least to start.

Overall, it’s been a really good experience for us. It saves space, the girls love it, and as they get older, it’s been cute to hear them in there talking or soothing each other.

Between kids and owning a business, sleep has taken a backseat over the last 4-5 years. I noticed myself sleeping less and less, and on top of the amount, the quality of my sleep seemed to be at an all-time low about a year ago.

I’m not one of those people who can get by on 5-6 hours of sleep, plus we all know the benefits that come with good sleep (and 8-9 hours for females!), so I’ve been laser focused on getting better sleep. I won’t say it happened overnight, but by prioritizing better habits and a few gadgets below, I’m seeing major improvements!

I know sleep is something we could all use more of, so I wanted to share what’s working for me. Let me know what’s working for you, too!

1. No blue light before bed - Morgan and I like to wind-down with a show, but I try to give myself one hour without any blue light right before bed. I have my phone set on ‘sleep mode’ by 9 p.m. and I read for about 30 minutes before I fall asleep using this red light book light. I’m also thinking about switching out all our bedroom lights to red bulbs…lmk if you’ve seen a difference from this full shift.

2. Eight Sleep Pod 4 - Morgan has been telling me about high-tech mattress covers for a while and we finally got one, which I’m LOVING. We went with Eight Pod 4 which is scientifically proven to enhance sleep quality by up to an hour a night - it learns your sleep patterns (and your partners if you share a bed) and essentially sets you up for better sleep. I especially love the temp control and smart alarms because I can choose to wake up with gentle vibrations and a cozy temperature. 4. Mouth tape - I’ve been trying this out for a while now, and personally, I’m a fan. I definitely notice better sleep the nights I use it. I like that it promotes nasal breathing (which can have benefits surrounding immunity, less snoring, nervous system regulation, etc). I like this brand since it has a small slit, which makes me more comfortable. P.S. Put on a little lip serum and your skincare before putting the tape on. It does dry me out if I don’t apply before. Then, when removing, pull slowly from one side to the other.

5. Oura Ring - You guys have heard me talk about the Oura ring several times now…I’m still obsessed. This was a game-changer for me last year and it continues to help my sleep, mainly because I can see what activities promote a good night’s sleep vs. a poor one (like if I drank, how much I moved my body, stress levels), etc. Overall, it keeps me in check with prioritizing good sleep habits!

6. Simple sleep meditation - On nights where I’m having a hard time winding down (usually after stressful days or ahead of events I’m nervous about), I try to squeeze in a sleep meditation because it makes SUCH a difference. Whether it’s TSS’s sleep meditation or I’m just doing box breathing (the 4-4-4-4 pattern of inhale, hold, exhale, hold), it’s a simple way to calm the nervous system and lower blood pressure.
