It’s not bad luck. It’s not just “being a woman.”

This Substack is reader-supported. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

And if you’re in a fat loss phase, it might be the single biggest reason you’re not seeing the results your effort deserves.

Here’s the pattern I see over and over:

You’re locked in. Tracking your food, hitting your steps, showing up to your workouts. Then that one week hits — the week before your period — and everything falls apart. You’re bloated, exhausted, irritable, and suddenly a calorie deficit feels impossible. You eat past hungry. You skip the gym. You tell yourself you’ll “get back on it Monday.”

Then two weeks go by before you actually do.

If you’re trying to lose 10+ pounds, you need to be in a deficit consistently for 3+ months. That math doesn’t work if one week every single month turns into a two-week detour. You’re not failing because you lack discipline. You’re failing because nobody taught you that your body needs a different plan for that week — not more willpower.

PMS is communication. Your body isn’t attacking you. It’s asking for support. And once you understand what’s actually driving it, you can plan around it instead of getting derailed by it every single cycle.

Here’s what’s actually going on — and exactly how to fat-loss-proof your luteal phase.

PMS Is a Hormone Rhythm Problem (And It’s Sabotaging Your Deficit)

Your cycle is designed to be dynamic. Estrogen rises and falls. Progesterone rises after ovulation to calm and stabilize you.

When that’s supported, your luteal phase feels grounded and focused — you can hold a deficit just fine. When it’s not supported, luteal phase feels like emotional chaos, and a calorie deficit feels like torture instead of just mildly inconvenient. That’s the difference between staying consistent and blowing up your progress for two weeks.

There are three systems that determine whether PMS derails your fat loss month after month:

Gut health (estrogen detox)

Stress load (progesterone production)

How you train and eat during your luteal phase

Fix these three, and PMS stops being the thing that resets your progress every single cycle.

Root Cause #1: Poor Estrogen Detox

Estrogen is meant to rise and fall. But if your body can’t eliminate excess estrogen efficiently, it lingers — and that lingering creates the exact symptoms that make a deficit unbearable: bloating, breast tenderness, irritability, and cravings that make “just stick to your macros” feel like a joke.

The most overlooked reason? Constipation.

If you’re not having consistent bowel movements (ideally 1–2 per day), estrogen gets reabsorbed in the gut instead of eliminated. You’re literally recycling the hormones that were supposed to leave — and those recycled hormones are a big part of why luteal week feels unmanageable while you’re trying to hold a deficit.

How to support it, starting now — not just the week before your period:

Morning gut support (before coffee):

Hydrate with electrolytes

1 tbsp apple cider vinegar + squeeze of lemon + sea salt

6–10 oz bone broth

Throughout the day:

Soft-cooked vegetables at every meal (spinach, zucchini, carrots, green beans, peppers, broccoli)

Adequate hydration and electrolytes

Your hormones can’t regulate inside a sluggish digestive system, and a body that’s not detoxing estrogen well is a body that’s going to make your deficit ten times harder every single luteal phase.

Root Cause #2: Low Progesterone from Chronic Stress

Progesterone is your calming hormone. It stabilizes mood, supports sleep, balances estrogen, and reduces anxiety.

Here’s the part most women trying to lose weight are never told: your body cannot make calm progesterone when it’s constantly making stress hormones — and being in a deep, aggressive deficit while under-sleeping and over-training is exactly the kind of chronic stress that tanks progesterone.

If you’re under-slept, over-scheduled, chronically anxious, over-training, or under-eating, your body prioritizes survival over hormone balance. More cortisol. Less progesterone. Worse PMS. And worse PMS means a harder time holding your deficit, which means the exact behaviors that were supposed to get you to your goal are the ones quietly working against it.

This is why PMS often shows up as irritability, anxiety, poor sleep, and emotional volatility that makes staying in a deficit feel impossible that week. It’s not that you’re “too sensitive.” It’s that your nervous system is overloaded — and an aggressive deficit held flat through that week only adds fuel to it.

How to support progesterone — and protect your deficit at the same time:

Eat enough, always. Under-eating spikes cortisol, and you cannot diet your way into balanced hormones. At minimum, aim for .5g of protein per pound of bodyweight daily, 3 meals a day, and adequate calories for your body weight — even during a deficit phase.

Support the nervous system directly: magnesium, breath work, journaling, earlier nights, slower mornings.

Many women in a deficit are unknowingly under-fueling on top of it — which drains progesterone and drives the exact cravings and emotional crashes that blow up a diet in the days before a period. This isn’t a discipline issue. It’s a biology issue, and it’s fixable.

Root Cause #3: Over-Exertion During Luteal Phase — The One Most Women Get Wrong

Progesterone thrives in calm, grounded energy. But most women hold the same training intensity and the same deficit size all month long — pushing luteal week like it’s still follicular week.

That mismatch is where fat loss plans fall apart. Pushing a hard deficit and hard training into a week where your body is already asking for less creates bloating, fatigue, anxiety, and the emotional crash that ends in a binge — followed by two weeks of “getting back on track” that erase the progress you just made.

Here’s the actual fix: calorie cycle up to maintenance 4-5 days before your period is expected.

Instead of holding your deficit flat through the week your body is least equipped to handle it, bring your calories up to maintenance starting 5 days out. This isn’t “falling off.” It’s a planned, intentional bridge that keeps your nervous system regulated, keeps progesterone supported, and — critically — keeps you from the all-or-nothing crash that turns one hard week into a two-week derailment.

At the same time, back off training intensity. This doesn’t mean stop moving — it means shift the type of movement:

Trade heavy lifting and high-intensity cardio for walking, gentle strength work, or Pilates

Prioritize steps and low-intensity movement for your calorie burn instead of pushing hard sessions your body doesn’t have the capacity for that week

Let this be the week you move because it feels good, not because you’re chasing a burn number

Eat rooting foods — sweet potatoes, cooked vegetables, bone broth, protein-rich meals. Protect your peace — say no more, reduce stimulation, let this week be about maintaining rather than maximizing.

Then, once your period starts, you drop back into your deficit. One week at maintenance doesn’t undo a month of consistent effort — but one week of white-knuckling a deficit through PMS and crashing into a binge absolutely can.

The Math That Actually Gets You to 10+ Pounds Down

If you need a deficit sustained for 3+ months to hit a real fat loss goal, the thing that determines whether you get there isn’t how hard you push in your best week. It’s whether you have a plan for your worst one.

A woman who cycles up to maintenance for 4-5 days before her period, backs off intensity, and drops right back into her deficit the moment her period starts is in a deficit roughly 3 out of 4 weeks, every single month, for the entire 3+ months. That’s a sustainable, compounding fat loss trajectory.

A woman who tries to hold a hard deficit flat through PMS, breaks, and takes 2 weeks to recover her mindset and get back on track is in a deficit maybe 2 out of 4 weeks some months — and starting over, mentally, again and again. That’s the difference between a fat loss phase that actually works and one that stalls out by month two.

The Holy Trinity for Fat Loss Without the Monthly Reset

PMS is not a diagnosis you’re stuck managing. You don’t just “get” it — you create the conditions for it, and you can create the conditions that prevent it from wrecking your progress.

Support digestion

Lower cortisol

Respect your luteal rhythm — including cycling up to maintenance in the 5 days before your period and backing off training intensity in favor of steps and low-intensity movement

When you work with your hormones instead of against them, the week before your period stops being the week that costs you two weeks of progress. It becomes just one more planned week inside a fat loss phase that actually holds — month after month, until you hit your number.

Need more personalized help?? My face is not naturally oily, I rarely wore makeup, I always washed my workout off.

But at the same it me my acne was flaring up… I was bloated, had badddd cravings, and was on an IUD.

So instead of focusing on the surface, I started to dive deeper into what creates an inflammatory environment in your skin. Thats when I started focusing on gut health.

The more I started to understand where my bloating and constipation was coming from, I was able to put together that the bumps on my forehead and acne on my jawline was most likely coming from a toxin buildup from not pooping 2x a day.

Yeah… 2x EVERY day, girl. Thats what a healthy gut should be doing. And I was lucky if I went every other day.

So one of the simplest things I added during my gut healing journey was bone broth, because it provides many of the raw materials your gut uses to repair itself.

And when your gut starts functioning better, your skin often follows.

Here’s why.

Your intestinal lining is only one cell thick.

Think about that for a second… The barrier separating the food, bacteria, toxins, and inflammatory compounds you’re ingestive from the outside world and letting into your body is ONE CELL WALL thick!

It keeps the things inside your digestive tract from the rest of your body and it’s designed to absorb nutrients while keeping larger particles where they belong.

When that barrier becomes irritated or damaged from chronic stress, highly processed foods (like protein bars and shakes… yeah…) alcohol, certain medications, poor sleep, or simply years of inflammation, it becomes less selective.

The lining can become compromised, just like the front lines of battle, creating more vulnerability in the gut. So instead of only allowing nutrients through, bacterial fragments and inflammatory molecules can pass into circulation.

And your immune system notices because thats what sits right behind your gut lining. 70-80% of the immune system lives in the gut. Which makes sense- cause its the one place where the outside world is willingly ingested into our body’s inside environment. And it responds to these attacks by creating inflammation.

And while that inflammation can show up as bloating, constipation, fatigue, or brain fog, it can also show up on your face.

Acne.

Redness.

Eczema.

Rosacea.

Skin that just never seems calm.

Your skin is often reflecting what’s happening inside your digestive system.

This is where bone broth can be incredibly supportive.

Bone broth contains collagen, gelatin, glycine, proline, glutamine, and other amino acids that are naturally involved in maintaining connective tissues throughout the body, including the lining of the digestive tract.

Glutamine is one of the primary fuel sources for the cells lining your intestines.

Glycine helps support collagen production and is involved in the body’s antioxidant defenses.

Gelatin absorbs water and may help support healthy digestion while providing amino acids that contribute to gut tissue repair.

These supportive elements provide your body with building blocks it can actually use to heal from the inside out.

As your gut barrier improves, your immune system often has fewer inflammatory triggers to react to.

That means less systemic inflammation.

Less inflammation means your skin has a better environment to heal.

Does that mean drinking one mug of bone broth will clear your acne?

No. And it can be way more complex than this - especially for anyone with hormonal detox problems. I’ll be sure to write another article on that.

Also, your gut doesn’t exist in isolation.

Stress changes digestion.

Sleep affects gut bacteria.

Hormones influence both your gut and your skin.

Blood sugar impacts inflammation.

Your nervous system regulates all of it.

This is why I’m always talking about the order of operations.

Most women try to heal their skin by buying another skincare product.

Or cutting out another food.

Or taking ten supplements they saw on TikTok.

Meanwhile they’re sleeping five hours, living off caffeine, skipping breakfast, stressed out of their minds, and wondering why nothing changes.

Your body can’t prioritize beautiful skin when it’s just trying to survive.

This is why my first phase is always repair.

We repair the gut.

We regulate the nervous system.

We stabilize blood sugar.

We reduce unnecessary inflammation.

Then your body finally has enough resources to invest in things that aren’t immediately required for survival, like healthy hair, glowing skin, balanced hormones, and recovery.

Bone broth isn’t magic.

It’s just one small piece of creating an internal environment where healing becomes possible.

Because beautiful skin isn’t something you apply.

It’s something your body creates when it’s healthy enough to do so.

That’s the difference.

We’re not chasing symptom management.

We’re creating the conditions where your body can finally do what it was designed to do.

So my main recommendation here if you’re dealing with acne that doesnt seem to have a rhyme or reason is simple:

For 30-60 days:

Cut out the known triggers - if gluten makes you bloat or dairy gives you diarrhea, or nuts make you constipated… start there.

Drink 6-8oz bone broth every morning - first thing after hydrating. This makes the first thing that touches your gut in the morning super healing and helpful for repair.

Eat a warm breakfast that is 100% single-ingredient whole foods and no gluten for 30-6o days. But I also understand that obesity is a chronic disease that often needs extra support. But for the girlies who just want to lose 15lbs… this is where I’d tread carefully.

“I don’t believe GLP-1s should be treated like cosmetic weight-loss drugs.

They were developed to treat chronic metabolic disease, not to help healthy women chase an arbitrary number on the scale.”

I think GLP-1 medications are one of the most fascinating advances we’ve had in metabolic medicine.

I also think they’re one of the most misunderstood, mismanaged, yet incredibly effective.

Depending on who you ask, they’re either a miracle drug that’s fixing the obesity epidemic or they’re “cheating” and destroying people’s health.

As usual, the truth lives somewhere in the middle.

So if you’re a woman wondering whether Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, or another GLP-1 medication is right for you, here’s what I think you should actually know.

First, let’s talk about what these medications actually do.

GLP-1 is a naturally occurring peptide hormone your body already makes. It has dozens of jobs throughout the body, but the reason everyone is talking about it is because it dramatically changes appetite regulation.

It slows stomach emptying, improves insulin secretion, reduces glucagon, helps stabilize blood sugar, signals the brain that you’re full sooner, and leaves you feeling satisfied for much longer after eating.

It also influences how your body stores and utilizes energy, shifting metabolism away from storing excess fat—particularly around the organs—and toward using glucose and fat more efficiently.

The end result?

Most people simply eat less without constantly fighting themselves.

And that’s exactly why the weight loss has been so impressive.

Across female-majority clinical trials, women have lost roughly 7-24% of their body weight.

That’s not five pounds.

That’s life-changing weight loss.

We’re also seeing about a 20% reduction in cardiovascular events in many studies, likely because these medications dramatically improve blood sugar regulation and reduce chronic inflammation associated with obesity.

Women with PCOS are seeing improvements as well.

Some studies have found that over 90% experienced improvements in symptoms, including more regular ovulation and improved fertility.

We’re also seeing meaningful improvements in metabolic diseases like non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

These are not small outcomes.

These are outcomes that genuinely improve and, in some cases, save lives.

Which is why I don’t think GLP-1s deserve the villain status they’ve been given online.

But...

Subscribe now

rises after ovulation to calm and stabilize you.

When everything is supported, your luteal phase feels grounded, cozy, focused, reflective.

When it’s not supported, luteal feels like emotional chaos.

There are three core systems that determine whether you experience PMS:

Gut health (estrogen detox)

Stress load (progesterone production)

Energy output (how you treat your luteal phase)

Fix these three, and PMS dramatically improves.

Root Cause #1: Poor Estrogen Detox

Estrogen is meant to rise and fall.

But if your body can’t eliminate excess estrogen efficiently, it lingers — and that lingering creates:

Mood swings

Breast tenderness

Cramping

Bloating

Irritability

Very heavy bleeds

The most overlooked reason?

Constipation.

If you are not having consistent bowel movements (ideally 1–2 per day), estrogen gets reabsorbed in the gut instead of eliminated.

You literally recycle the hormones that were supposed to leave.

How to Support Estrogen Detox

Start with the basics:

Morning gut support (before coffee):

Hydrate with electrolytes

1 tbsp apple cider vinegar + squeeze of lemon + sea salt

6–10 oz bone broth

Then throughout the day:

• Soft-cooked vegetables at every meal (spinach, zucchini, carrots, green beans, peppers, broccoli)
• Adequate hydration
• Electrolytes to support mineral balance

Your hormones cannot regulate inside a sluggish digestive system.

If your PMS includes heavy boobs, rage, and swelling — look at your gut first.

Root Cause #2: Low Progesterone from Chronic Stress

Progesterone is your calming hormone.

It stabilizes mood.
Supports sleep.
Balances estrogen.
Reduces anxiety.

But here’s the truth most women are never told:

Your body cannot make calm progesterone when it’s constantly making stress hormones.

If you are:

Under-slept

Over-scheduled

Chronically anxious

Over-training

Under-eating

Your body prioritizes survival over fertility.

Which means:
More cortisol.
Less progesterone.
More PMS.

This is why PMS often feels like:

• Irritability
• Anxiety
• Poor sleep
• Spotting
• Emotional volatility

It’s not that you’re “too sensitive.”

It’s that your nervous system is overloaded.

How to Support Progesterone

Your luteal phase requires softness.

This is not the phase to push harder.

Shift into:

Lighter workouts

Slower mornings

Earlier nights

Warm grounding meals

Magnesium

Breath work

Journaling

And most importantly:

Eat enough.

Under-eating spikes cortisol.

You cannot diet your way into balanced hormones.

At minimum, aim for .5 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight daily, 3 meals a day and adequate calories for your body weight.

Many women experiencing PMS are unknowingly under-fueling — which drains progesterone and drives cravings and emotional crashes.

This is not a discipline issue.

It’s a biology issue.

Root Cause #3: Over-Exertion During Luteal Phase

Progesterone thrives in calm, grounded energy.

But most women treat every week of their cycle the same.

They power through luteal like they’re still in their follicular high.

And that mismatch creates:

• Bloating
• Fatigue
• Anxiety
• Emotional crashes

Your body is asking you to slow down.

The world is telling you to speed up.

PMS often lives in that tension.

How to Honor Luteal

Move gently:

Strength training

Walking

Pilates

Yoga

Eat rooting foods:

Sweet potatoes

Cooked vegetables

Bone broth

Protein-rich meals

Protect your peace:

Say no more

Reduce stimulation

Reflect instead of perform

This phase is about softness — not speed.

The Truth About PMS

PMS is not a diagnosis like we’re lead to believe. You don’t just “get” PMS… you create it.

It’s communication.

Your body is incredibly intelligent.

If you listen instead of suppressing symptoms, it will tell you exactly what it needs.

The holy trinity for hormone balance:

Support digestion

Lower cortisol

Respect your luteal rhythm

When you work with your hormones instead of against them, PMS doesn’t just get “manageable.”

It dissolves.

Not because you forced it away.

But because you finally supported the systems that create it.

And that’s the difference between surviving your cycle…

And living in sync with it.

This Substack is reader-supported. plate

They feel hunger.

They respect it.

They feel fullness.

And they stop.

Not because they’re controlling themselves — but because their body is actually talking to them again.

And here’s the part no one likes to hear:

You don’t lose that intuition because you’re broken.

You lose it because you trained your body to stop trusting you.

How Dieting Trains You Out of Hunger & Fullness

Most women don’t just wake up one day disconnected from their body.

They earn it.

Through years of:

ignoring hunger because “it’s not time to eat yet”

egg whites for breakfast

salads that never quite satisfy

pushing hunger down with coffee

telling yourself “just wait until dinner”

and bingeing later because your body finally snaps

Then comes the classic reset:

“Come Monday, I’m starting over.”

So you eat everything now — because soon it’ll be off limits.

That cycle doesn’t just mess with food.

It teaches your body that hunger is unsafe.

So your hunger cues get:

quieter during the day

louder at night

confusing overall

And eventually you’re not eating because you’re hungry —

You’re eating because you’re overwhelmed.

Why the “Successful” Women Look So Effortless

When I look at women who maintain weight loss, they’re not doing anything flashy.

They:

eat when they’re hungry — not when the clock says so

stop when they’re full — not when the plate is empty

don’t panic around food

don’t have “on” and “off” days

That didn’t happen because they found the perfect diet.

It happened because their hunger–fullness feedback loop works.

And that loop only works when the body feels safe.

The Egg Whites → Salad → Binge Trap (Again)

Let’s be honest.

If your day looks like:

egg whites or a “light” breakfast

chicken + salad for lunch

veggies + lean protein for dinner

And you’re still thinking about food all day…

You’re not eating intuitively.

You’re eating strategically under-fed.

Most women who swear they eat “high protein” are actually only hitting 60–70g per day — even with eggs, chicken, and beef.

Protein without enough calories and fat doesn’t create satisfaction.

It creates delayed hunger.

And delayed hunger always collects interest.

That’s why the binge shows up later — not because you lack control, but because your body finally gets a chance to speak.

Hunger Cues Don’t Come Back Through Restriction

You don’t “fix” hunger cues by:

eating less

being stricter

cutting more foods

exercising harder

That’s how you lose them in the first place.

They come back when your body learns:

“If I tell her I’m hungry, she’ll respond.”

Here’s what actually restores intuition:

1. Three Filling Meals Per Day

Not low-calorie meals.

Not meals you’re hungry again an hour later.

Meals that include:

real protein

real fats

enough food to keep you content for hours

If you’re hungry 90 minutes later, that meal didn’t do its job.

2. A Real Protein Target (Not a Vibe)

If you’ve never tracked protein, I’d bet you’re not over 100g/day.

Eggs + chicken + ground beef doesn’t guarantee it.

Consistently hitting 100g+ of protein stabilizes blood sugar, appetite, and cravings — which is what allows hunger cues to normalize again.

3. Less “Punishment” Exercise

Women who have food intuition aren’t doing HIIT five days a week while under-eating.

They:

walk

lift weights like a normal human

do one truly intense session per week

move without constantly spiking stress

When stress drops, hunger cues stop being chaotic.

Intuition Is the Real “Secret” to Sustainable Weight Loss

The women who keep weight off aren’t relying on discipline.

They’re relying on communication.

Their body:

tells them when to eat

tells them when to stop

and doesn’t feel like it needs to panic

That’s why weight maintenance looks effortless from the outside.

Not because they’re better than you —

But because their body trusts them again.

And trust is built by:

eating enough

eating consistently

honoring hunger

respecting fullness

Not by ignoring it until it explodes.

What does Moving and Late Luteal Have in Common?

Hint: stress. just stress.

Melody Kramarz

On Moving Countries in Late Luteal…

I am moving out of the country this week… I leave in 36 hours.

I also get my period tomorrow.

This Substack is reader-supported. nott ideal timing on my part.

Let me explain…

The move happens to fall at the very end of my cycle — late luteal, the phase characterized less by clarity and momentum and more by introspection, heightened sensitivity, and a noticeable reduction in tolerance for chaos: physical exertion, social interactions, stress in general... Which is unfortunate, given that international relocation is essentially chaos with a boarding pass.

I don’t believe in blaming hormones for everything. But I do believe in acknowledging when biology meaningfully alters perception — and luteal phase biology does exactly that.

Sooo deciding to live a nomadic lifestyle is already stress-prone: it requires a lot of planning, details & action. So I’m going to try to explain how my body is handling this in late luteal… keep in mind that PMS and PMDD make this part SOO much worse… but fixing those has been a life saver so I CAN do things in luteal now!

Stress Does Not Stay the Same Across the Cycle

During the luteal phase, progesterone rises and estrogen falls. This hormonal shift doesn’t simply affect reproduction; it alters how the brain processes threat, emotion, and stress.

Research consistently shows that progesterone increases activity in the limbic system — particularly the amygdala, the region responsible for detecting and responding to perceived danger. In practical terms, this means that stimuli which might register as neutral or manageable earlier in the cycle are more likely to feel overwhelming, urgent, or emotionally charged during late luteal. lol.

Stressors don’t necessarily increase (but liiike,, do they?) — the nervous system’s response to them does.

Studies tracking perceived stress across menstrual phases find higher reported stress during the late luteal and menstrual phases compared to follicular or ovulatory phases. Other research demonstrates heightened emotional memory and stronger responses to negative stimuli when progesterone is elevated.

In short: a woman and her body might respond differently to the same life event depending on where she is in her cycle.

What This Looks Like in Practice

Late luteal is not when the body is necessarily loving forward motion... our system is more oriented toward:

evaluation: overthinking absolutely everything about my life / reevaluating literally all of it for 1-3 days

closure: thinking “i literally need to be done with this freaking post/project/person/though/emotion thats been building all freaking month and now I’m crying in the shower about it”

conservation: I’m so fuggin tired; I’m going to bed; don’t talk to me. “I literally can not”

There is less cognitive bandwidth for novelty, transitions, and uncertainty — just, like, all the things I’m currently putting myself through (:

During this phase:

The threshold for stress is lower

Emotional signals are louder

Transitions feel heavier (lol)

And “holding it together” feels uniquely hard

The Problem Is Not Fragility — It’s Mismatch

There is a persistent cultural narrative that emotional difficulty equals weakness, dysregulation, or poor coping skills. But what luteal phase research suggests is something else entirely: context matters, and biology shapes interpretation.

A nervous system primed for heightened vigilance will interpret stress as more threatening. That doesn’t make the stress imaginary — it makes the response predictable.

When women describe feeling “more sensitive” or “less capable” during late luteal, they are often naming a real shift in neurological processing, not a personal failing.

A More Useful Question

The question isn’t, “Why am I struggling with this?”
It’s, “Would this feel different at another point in my cycle?”

In my case, yes.
Objectively, the move is the same.
Subjectively, it feels heavier because my nervous system is in a phase designed for discernment, not disruption.

Understanding that doesn’t eliminate the stress — but it reframes it. The reaction becomes information, not indictment.

Closing Thought

I’m not moving countries because it’s late luteal.
But I am experiencing the move through a late-luteal nervous system.

And that distinction matters.

If we allowed more room for cyclical context — in work, in relationships, in how we interpret our own capacity — fewer women would assume they’re failing when they’re simply responding appropriately to a biological state.

Sometimes the body isn’t resisting change.
It’s asking for gentler timing….

This Substack is reader-supported. — and when — you ovulate?

Do you deal with gut issues like bloating, constipation, loose stools, or food sensitivities?

Is your nervous system regulated or in constant fight or flight?

Do you genuinely feel like you’re in the best health of your life?

If you answered no to any of these, this isn’t a problem — but it is information.

And information is powerful when you use it early.

Fertility isn’t something you turn on

It’s something your body allows

One of the biggest misconceptions I see is that fertility is a switch you flip when you’re “ready.”

In reality, fertility is a whole-body state.

Ovulation doesn’t happen just because you want it to.
Regular cycles don’t appear just because you stop birth control.
And conception control

…aren’t random. They’re communication.

Not signs that your body is broken — signs that it’s asking for support.

Birth control can mask a lot

And coming off it is only the beginning

Many women feel fine on birth control, then confused when things feel worse after stopping.

This doesn’t mean you made the wrong choice.

It means birth control can suppress symptoms that were already brewing underneath:

Gut inflammation

Blood sugar instability

Nutrient depletion

Nervous system stress

Ovulation suppression

When you come off, your body has to relearn how to communicate and regulate — and that takes time and directed, intentional effort.

Which is why waiting to fix these things until you’re actively trying to get pregnant will make the process much more stressful than it needs to be.

Subscribe to stay updated on future posts!

Knowing your cycle is not optional literacy

It’s foundational

If you don’t know when you ovulate, if your luteal phase is short, if your period knocks you out every month — that’s not something to ignore and hope for the best.

Your cycle tells you:

If your hormones are communicating

If your metabolism is supported

If your gut is absorbing nutrients

If your stress load is too high

If your body feels safe enough to progress

Learning to read it is one of the most empowering things you can do — whether pregnancy is 6 months away or 2 years out.

Why starting now changes everything later

Here’s the part most women don’t hear:

You don’t prepare for pregnancy during pregnancy.
You prepare for pregnancy before you ever try.

When you give your body time to:

Repair digestion

Restore energy

Rebuild nutrient stores

Improve egg quality

Regulate your nervous system

Reestablish consistent ovulation

…everything downstream becomes smoother.

Not rushed.
Not reactive.
Not rooted in fear.

Just supported. crash.
And I’d come home feeling like I needed to “fix” everything and lose 5lbs again…

What I learned over time is this:

Travel isn’t the problem.
Lack of anchors is.

Consistency while traveling doesn’t come from perfection — it comes from staying anchored in the basics that make your body feel safe.

My travel philosophy: anchor, don’t optimize

Travel is not the time to push harder or chase progress.

It’s the time to:

stay nourished

reduce stress

support digestion

honor your cycle

keep your nervous system regulated

When those foundations are in place, your body doesn’t spiral — even if routines change.

And when your body doesn’t spiral, you don’t either.

The biggest mistake women make when traveling

Most women approach travel in one of two ways:

“I’ll just go off the rails and deal with it later”

“I’ll try to be perfect and inevitably fail”

Both create stress.

Your body doesn’t need extremes.
It needs predictability in a new environment.

That’s where anchors come in.

Food is available. You don’t have to protect me anymore.”

This is where something incredible starts to happen.

The bloating you’ve accepted as “normal” begins to disappear.

You wake up without feeling swollen.

Your stomach doesn’t distend after every meal.

Your rings fit again.

You start noticing your collarbones and facial definition—not because you’ve aggressively dieted, but because the chronic inflammation is finally settling down.

You begin trusting that you can eat a normal meal without paying for it with discomfort, exhaustion, or digestive issues later.

Your energy stabilizes.

Cravings quiet down.

Sleep improves.

PMS begins calming.

For the first time in a long time...

your body feels like it’s working with you instead of against you.

Nothing is forced.

And that’s exactly why it works.

Phase 2: Maintenance

From Safety → Stability

Most women think maintenance means “nothing is happening.”

In reality, this is where almost everything is happening.

This is where your body learns that this new way of living isn’t another temporary diet.

Hormones stabilize.

Metabolism recalibrates.

Digestion becomes reliable.

Strength improves.

Muscle is protected.

Your hunger and fullness cues finally become clear again.

Instead of obsessing over food all day...

you naturally know when you’re hungry.

You naturally know when you’re satisfied.

You stop fearing restaurants.

You stop needing cheat meals.

You stop negotiating with yourself every weekend.

Hitting your protein goal becomes second nature—not because you’re forcing down shakes, bars, and supplements that leave your stomach bloated, but because eating enough real food simply feels easy.

Perhaps the biggest transformation is this:

You trust yourself again.

You trust your body.

You trust that you can enjoy food without losing control.

And for the first time in years...

maintaining your weight actually feels effortless.

This phase teaches your body:

“This is sustainable. I don’t need to rebound.”

This is the bridge almost every diet skips.

And it’s exactly why so many women spend years losing the same 10-20 pounds over and over again.

Phase 3: Progress

From Stability → Strong, Lean & Thriving

Only once safety and stability are established do we intentionally pursue fat loss.

And here’s the beautiful part...

By now your body actually wants to respond.

Calories can be adjusted without triggering panic.

Training becomes strategic instead of excessive.

Recovery is respected.

Intensity has a purpose.

Everything becomes cycle-aware.

You understand when your body thrives on heavier lifts.

You understand when it needs recovery.

You stop fighting your hormones and start partnering with them.

Because you understand your hormonal shifts, you stop judging yourself for feeling different throughout the month.

Instead of saying,

“What’s wrong with me?”

you begin asking,

“What does my body need today?”

That shift alone dramatically lowers stress—which ironically makes consistency easier than it has ever been.

No more crashing every luteal phase.

No more convincing yourself you’ve “fallen off.”

No more starting over every month because PMS took over.

You simply adjust.

You flow with your physiology instead of resisting it.

That’s what sustainable consistency actually looks like.

And because your body no longer feels threatened:

fat becomes easier to lose

cravings don’t spiral

workouts feel stronger

recovery improves

progress finally sticks

This is when women tell me:

“This is the first time my body hasn’t fought me.”

Because they aren’t fighting it anymore either.

The transformation isn’t just physical

Women don’t just become leaner.

They become free.

Free from constantly thinking about food.

Free from fearing vacations.

Free from bloating after every meal.

Free from believing they have no discipline.

They experience:

stable energy

calm digestion

clearer skin

better sleep

less inflammation

stronger workouts

minimal PMS

confidence around food

trust in their body again

Most importantly...

they finally feel like themselves again.

Not a version of themselves that’s constantly exhausted.

Not the woman who’s always “starting Monday.”

The woman underneath all the stress, inflammation, and survival mode.

This is the difference

Most programs ask:

“How do I burn fat faster?”

The Vyana Method asks:

“What does your body need to finally feel safe enough to let it go?”

Because when your body feels safe...

consistency becomes easier.

Food becomes peaceful.

Movement becomes enjoyable.

Fat loss becomes sustainable.

No force.

No punishment.

No rebound.

Just regulation, alignment, and a body that finally feels like home again.

So where do we go from here?

Reading about the Vyana Method is one thing.

Experiencing it is another.

If you’re tired of:

gaining and losing the same 10-20 pounds

constantly bloating after meals

fighting cravings

relying on willpower that rarely follows through

pushing through exhaustion

feeling like your body keeps working against you

this is exactly why I created Synced & Strong.

Inside this 6-12 month program, I personally guide women through all three phases of the Vyana Method—from Repair, to Maintenance, to Progress—so your transformation doesn’t just happen...

it lasts.

Inside you’ll receive:

your personalized roadmap through all three phases with protocols for:

healing digestion

regulating your nervous system so consistency becomes easy

supporting hormone balance

reducing inflammation

cycle-synced nutrition and training

my complete 20-week course curriculum on fat loss, hormones, gut health, nervous system regulation, and female physiology so you can LEARN as you progress

supplement guidance and access to functional testing through my naturopathic partners

weekly coaching calls and community support

a process designed to work with your body instead of constantly fighting it

Because this isn’t about becoming more disciplined.

It’s about becoming more aligned.

And when that happens...

your body finally starts responding the way you’ve always hoped it would.

If you’ve felt yourself nodding while reading this... that’s your body recognizing a different way forward.

You can learn more about Synced & Strong here:

<a Try harder.

But the female body doesn’t operate in isolation from hormones, stress, sleep, digestion, and safety.

Your body’s primary job is not fat loss.
It’s survival.

When your system perceives threat — even subtle, well-intentioned threat — fat loss is no longer the priority.

What “stuck” actually means hormonally

When your body feels stuck, it’s often because it has entered a protective state.

This can be triggered by:

chronic under-eating (even unintentionally)

intense or frequent training without enough recovery

inconsistent meal timing

repeated dieting cycles

poor sleep

chronic mental or emotional stress

inflammation or gut irritation

None of these mean you did something wrong.
They mean your body adapted.

This adaptation is called metabolic adaptation — and it’s intelligence, not damage.

Metabolic adaptation isn’t broken — it’s protective

When food has been inconsistent or stress has been high for long enough, your body learns:

“Energy is unreliable. I need to conserve.”

So it responds by:

lowering resting energy needs

increasing hunger and cravings

holding onto fat more tightly

stalling visible progress

This is why doing more often backfires.
More cardio. Lower calories. Stricter rules.

You can’t force your body out of protection mode.
You have to signal safety.

The overtraining + under-fueling loop

One of the most common patterns I see is this:

hard workouts most days

delayed or skipped meals

low appetite during the day

overeating at night

caffeine to push through exhaustion

This sends a very clear hormonal message:

“High demand. Low supply.”

In response, the body elevates stress hormones, downregulates reproductive hormones, slows digestion, and resists fat loss.

This isn’t a willpower issue.
It’s a mismatch between output and input.

Inflammation: the invisible reason the scale won’t move

Inflammation is one of the most misunderstood reasons women feel stuck.

When inflammation is high:

the scale may stay the same due to water retention

bloating persists

digestion slows

joints ache

the body feels puffy and uncomfortable

You can technically be in a calorie deficit and still see no change — because the body is prioritizing damage control, not transformation.

Healing and regulation often have to come before fat loss.

Cortisol changes everything

Cortisol isn’t bad.
It’s necessary.

But chronically elevated cortisol — from stress, under-fueling, poor sleep, overtraining — keeps the body in a constant state of alert.

In women, high cortisol:

increases fat storage (especially midsection)

suppresses thyroid function

reduces progesterone

worsens PMS

disrupts sleep

intensifies cravings

This is why you cannot stress your way into a regulated body.

Safety must come first.

Why the scale is the least helpful feedback right now

When the body is stressed or inflamed, the scale tells a very incomplete story.

Early progress often shows up as:

reduced bloating

better digestion

steadier energy

improved sleep

clothes fitting differently

clearer skin

These are signs the body is coming out of protection mode.

Fat loss becomes easier after these improve — not before.

Your body isn’t broken. It’s protecting you.

If your body feels stuck, it’s not because you failed.

It’s because your body is:

responding to past stress

adapting to scarcity

trying to keep you safe

The goal is not to force progress.
The goal is to create the conditions where progress becomes possible.

That means:

consistent, adequate nourishment

intentional movement (not punishment)

nervous system regulation

sleep and recovery

rebuilding trust with your body

When the body feels safe, it lets go — naturally.

Stuck isn’t a dead end. It’s direction.

Feeling stuck is information.
It’s your body asking for a different approach.

Less force.
More support.
Less urgency.
More regulation.

Your body wants to thrive.
It’s just been waiting for the right signals.

And once you give them, everything starts to move again 🤍

How the Vyana Method Moves You From Stuck → Safe → Progressing

This is exactly why I created the Vyana Method.

Not to help women push harder —
but to help their bodies feel safe enough to change.

Most women try to jump straight from “stuck” into fat loss.

But the female body doesn’t move that way.

She moves through three very clear phases:

1️⃣ Stuck → Safety (Repair)

When your body feels stuck, it’s because it does not feel safe.

In the Vyana Method, we don’t start with fat loss.
We start with repair.

This phase focuses on:

consistent nourishment (no skipping, no chaos)

stabilizing blood sugar and hunger cues

reducing inflammatory inputs

calming cortisol and the nervous system

restoring digestion, sleep, and energy

This is where bloating starts to decrease.
Energy becomes steadier.
Hunger becomes predictable instead of chaotic.
Your body stops bracing.

Nothing is being forced here.
We are sending the signal:

“You are safe. Energy is available. You don’t need to protect.”

This is the phase most women skip — and the reason they stay stuck.

2️⃣ Safety → Stability (Maintenance)

Once the body feels safe, it doesn’t immediately drop fat.

It settles.

This is the stabilization phase — where hormones, digestion, and metabolism recalibrate.

In Vyana, this looks like:

eating enough consistently without fear

maintaining strength and muscle

training in a way that supports your cycle

staying out of extremes

reinforcing trust with your body

This phase is critical because it teaches your body:

“This is sustainable. I don’t need to rebound.”

Many women are afraid of this phase because the scale may still move slowly — but internally, this is where fat loss becomes possible again.

3️⃣ Stability → Progress (Fat Loss That Lasts)

Only after safety and stability do we move into intentional fat loss.

And when we do, it’s not aggressive.
It’s not punishing.
It’s cycle-aware and regulated.

Because the body is no longer in survival mode:

hunger signals are clearer

metabolism responds again

fat becomes accessible

the scale moves without chaos

This is why women often say:

“This is the first time weight loss didn’t feel like a fight.”

Because it isn’t.

The missing piece isn’t discipline — it’s order

Most women don’t need more motivation.
They need the right sequence.

You don’t push your way out of stuck.
You regulate your way out.

The Vyana Method is built on this truth:

Safety first.
Stability second.
Progress third.

And when you honor that order, your body does what it’s been trying to do all along —
release, respond, and thrive.

To learn more about how to work with me using the VYANA Method, check out Synced & Strong - my flagship coaching container where I help women like you stop fighting their bodies and finally see healthy, sustainable progress.
