The poster speaks for itself. The Deep South and Southern Wannabes have spoken. The John Roberts faction of the SCOTUS has spoken! Make your voice heard! If every single person who is affected by this decision by the Republicans on the Supreme Court and the Republicans in Southern and racist-leaning states votes with their pockets and their actual vote, the so-called gains of the fascist party will be defeated. I love Dawn Staley, but I will never see her teams play again unless she switches to an HBCU.

Who is affected? You may think this is only about Black people, but you’d better think again. Not only have right-leaning states focused on ‘cracking’ Black districts, but the Republicans will also (have also) crack heavily left-leaning districts as they redraw these maps.1 This affects everyone who cares about their own pockets, their children getting competent and diverse schooling, or humanity in general.

It is easy for viewers to boycott the SEC. Find something to do while your alma mater is on the air. You can get sports updates on your phone without paying for the dollars earned from television and YouTube broadcasts. Go outside and play football with your neighbors. Go to a movie. Go hug a tree (I am serious).

For students, it may mean giving up their dreams of being part of the Crimson Tide or yelling “Hook ‘Em, Horns!” every three minutes. This will be hard. You may already have declared your choice, and now you are being asked to change it. You are being asked to care about the rest of the country at the expense of your sports dreams. No one will say this is not going to be a burden, but we are asking you, because you care about your future, and the future of children you don’t have yet, to make the choice not to attend an SEC school.

There are educational options for young people that include non-SEC schools and HBCUs. HBCUs have never been closed to anyone, unlike many a predominantly white institution (PWI). Transfer and build those sports programs. From golf to swimming to football, basketball, and gymnastics, scholars can find another school to meet their needs in all majors.

Just as Americans have done with Target, we can shake the establishment. Make a difference. First and foremost, boycott the SEC.

I stumbled across Bryan Kennedy on TikTok today. I rarely open TikTok unless I want to be amused by a dance video or puppies. But I watch compilations of TikTok videos on YouTube around a particular subject. The ones that caught my attention today are on the current state of the country, or declarations that we are in a Civil War.

Bryan is the mayor of Glendale, WI, and a member of the DNC. He is also an avid reader and fully understands George Orwell’s book, 1984. If you have never read it, I suggest it, along with two other books that should be on any citizen’s bookshelf. Yes, you should have a bookshelf, but that’s a different post.

1984 will give you a very eerie, frightening mirror through which to see this current administration. In my opinion, it is our fault that we are in this position. We forgot that the government is supposed to serve us as American citizens. Not everyone, but far too many citizens, stopped voting. The representatives were elected to represent our views and desires in the House and Senate, not to enrich themselves and live on The Hill forever. We allowed ourselves to get into a situation where we are now led by an administration that tells you that what you see and hear is not reality. Their propaganda is reality. They have an entire media arm to insist that they are the purveyors of truth. It is all a means to an end that is not good for most of us. The Heritage Foundation wants a land that is white, theocratic, and based on unbridled capitalism that only supports the patriarchy. Actually, white men only. The Rich want the money that they believe comes with a compliant and demoralized population.

Purchase Octavia Butler’s “Parable of the Sower.” It needs to be in your library, whether in physical or electronic form. Ms. Butler leads us through a US that has come apart under a dictatorship that is supported by sheepish ‘representatives’ and sheer chaos. The protagonist eventually loses her entire family in what can only be called a purge, but she leads a group heading to the West Coast to escape the hellscape unleashed. The point for us is the totalitarian regime that is only interested in using the people to enrich their own pockets, regardless of what is happening in their lives.

Are we at war? Prepare for it to come to you online, in person, through propaganda, through the schools, and through your government. Consider this list of people shot by ICE or the moves to put the National Guard and the US Army and Marines in Democratic cities by the White House. Consider the obvious lies that Fox News regurgitates on its cable “news” station. Consider what your own eyes and ears have seen and heard. And I haven’t even talked about the insanity of stealing oil and kidnapping the president of a sovereign nation.

We must take control of this government. There are many actions that can be used. Press your representatives, in all parties, from the statehouse to the Senate, to actually do something to rein in this President and his immediate subordinates. Yes, even State assemblies can press the Federal Government, but it may take different forms in different states. Remember, we are a federation of individual states. Get involved in your local government! Attend school board, city council, and county government meetings. Educate yourself on local issues.

READ!!! I do not recommend any of the mainstream media stations; they have been purchased by billionaires who have made it clear that dissent with this current Administration will not be tolerated. Even the Washington Post is garbage at this point (I personally miss the old Paper of Record, which disappeared under Jeff Bezos). But there are dozens of great sources. Please suggest your favorites below. I am reviewing a couple of compilations to update this post later, so you have a clear idea of the leanings of the online papers and magazines you read. Read novels. Read history books. Get together with other people who care about this country and read with them in a group. Start a book club.

Whatever you do, do not think we will return to ‘normal.’ We have an opportunity to build a country that works for the majority of us, not just for the 1%. This is a civil war that was actually planned over 50 years ago. The fascists are using the Trump Administration, Republicans on The Hill, and Trump’s cronies (looking at the Heritage Foundation, most of SCOTUS, and MAGA) against the rest of us. Are you ready?

I can see now that the Heritage Foundation and the Project 2025 creators are finished with Trump. He has done what they wanted him to do.
