It’s currently slightly underwater at -4.93% badly trailing the FTSE All Share which was up 5.98% since Boxing Day 2025.

My nervousness for this year centred on ever expanding AI Data Center build out bubble and hoping as much as possible to avoid any washout from the popping of that. The SpaceX IPO may well represent its peak and the “vibes” are that Q3 feels like it may be interesting.

There have been some good performances to date from Currys (CURY) +24.80%, Strategic Minerals (SML) +189.64% and Metro Bank (MTRO) +39.07%. However most stocks are off slightly with notable falls from Future PLC (FUTR) -41.59%, Safestore Holdings (SAFE) -12.57% and Hutchmed (China) (HCM) -21.68%. I continue to hold whilst noting the uptick in acquisitions of “cheap” UK stocks.

I’d been meaning to post a portfolio update for Q1 on March 31 but was fortunate enough to get a week away over the Easter break and now as i write there appears to be a 10 minute ceasefire agreement as DJT strikes an inconclusive deal with himself over a war he started. The portfolio is up on 2 days ago but feels likely to plunge again at any moment. From a 4.5% gain at the end of February it’s currently standing down 5.35% some way off the FTSE All-Share benchmark thats up 5.39%. Biggest fallers to date are (FUTR: -£1,094.98 -41.74%), (UTG: -£392.82 -14.99%) and (VSL: -£200.68 -30.75%). There is some Oil in the portfolio in the small caps but given this is a portfolio weighted towwards larger, (ahem..) more stable caps their gains don’t outweigh the fallers. Best gainers include (SML: £843.07 258.61%), (CURY: £134.63 5.13%) and (PMG: £130.34 39.99%).

Lets hope the world comes to it’s senses……………

First a mention to those stocks I still like and see value in from last year, but fall foul of the non repeat rule

  • Pets at Home Group Plc (PETS.L)

  • Wickes Group plc (WIX.L)

  • PetroTal Corp. (PTAL.L)

  • Reach plc (RCH.L)

  • Secure Trust Bank PLC (STB.L)

  • Orchard Funding Group plc (ORCH.L)

  • Tekcapital plc (TEK.L)

  • Zambeef Products PLC (ZAM.L)

Although this is not advice and you make your own investment decisions, I would be happy to buy and hold these.

Will 2026 be a year of reckoning for all things bubbly or AI? I certainly feel uncomfortable at those dizzying heights and one consequence of the stock market reaching all time highs is that prices are higher. As per last year, there is an imaginary £35000 split over (this time 26) UK stocks. As befits my risk profile, this is a weighted portfolio that has 75% of its holdings in 9 FTSE350 companies.

In so far that there is any discernible pattern, I’m favoring Real Estate and Beer this year.

Will it be safe as houses? Or am I drunk on last years growth?

I’ll tally it up 12 months from now and face the final reckoning…….

A maximum of £35000 spread over 33 stocks. All are UK. As befits my risk profile, over 50% of the value are in 4 stocks and over 20% in a single FTSE100 stock - Vodafone.

I’ll track these over the course of the next 12 months and play along.
