A highlight from the week… My Fall Collection with Allie + Bess launched!!!

Yall, I love getting to not only spend with these women, who have become friends, but each time I get to collaborate with them and dream up what we want to bring to you all- it’s a pinch me situation!!! 2 falls ago, I said “Let’s do pink, blue, and green. Those are my signature colors, and I consider them neutrals.” We did it… you all loved it. Last fall, I was like “let’s do it again, but different and better.” We did & you all love it! This fall, they know what I wanted- pink, blues, and greens. I’ve always been super picky about the exact shades that I consider and neutral and when designing and saying yes or no to certain beads, I think through- will I wear this with every single thing in my closet. A highlight from the week… GAME DAY GOODNESS!

You know, just 3 more Saturday’s (including this one) till the “It’s Football Time in TN” and it makes my heart pitter patter just thinking about sitting in Neyland Stadum with my family watching them run through that “T.” I know some of you aren’t Vol Fans (how are we friends?!?! A bit of an unusual post here and I hope yall are ok with it. I figure, you’re my people and many of you might be feeling the same, so just gonna spill it… I love what I do… yall know that. I tell you often. When I was growing up, my “dream job” was to own a children’s clothing store (that’s a story for another day), but I think if doing what I do now was an actual career back then- it would have been the goal! Anyway…

This summer has been HARD- like H.A.R.D… so many wonderful moments and things, but I’ve just been juggling a little too much. Can you relate? Trying to work (from home), be a fun summer mom, train new team members, coordinating therapy logistics, do the laundry, keep all the balls in the air without dropping the glass ones. Well, I feel certain I have dropped more glass ones than I even realize yet, but I am trying to pull out the hot glue and apologize for my mistakes (I have def lost my patience more than I’d like to admit). I’ve read every single response. Some twice. Some three times. And every time I sat down to write this, I realized this isn’t really a story about hitting a number. It’s a story about you- the incredible women that make up this community… all 100K of you!

After reading hundreds of your responses the past few weeks, I don’t think that’s ever really been what Mix & Match Madness was about. Sure, the clothes brought us together. They just aren’t why many of you have stayed - and while I love fashion, I love that it’s more than that for us.

A few weeks ago , as we celebrated reaching 100,000 on Instagram (a number I still can’t quite wrap my brain around!), I asked you two simple questions:

1. How long have you been here?

2. What keeps you around?

Girls…I read your responses to my family at the end of dinner the other night and reflected on how stinkin’ cool the answers were. I have said from the beginning of all this when Natasha first encouraged me to really make the Mix & Match thing more than a hobby… I have 2 girls (+ a James) watching how I show up, what numbers I pay attention to, & what I allow to define me, etc. I literally sat with a big smile and teary eyes as I read your responses.

Some of you found me back in the Matilda Jane days. Some when I was still teaching kindergarten. Some came through Natasha, Brittany, Kathleen, Lisa, Nanette. Some because The ‘Gram randomly served you one of my videos. Some of you remember when there were fewer than 10,000 of us. Others have only been here a few weeks.

But what absolutely stopped me in my tracks wasn’t when you found Mix & Match Madness. It was that the women who have been here for over a decade and the women who have been here for a month said almost the exact same thing.

We have a unique group according to many … our key demographic is women ages 35-65+ (and how cool is that). We love a $20 dress and are equally intrigued by at $400 dress (although we love when we find those on sale- ha). We have all sorts of different life experiences and wants needs, and, yet, the same words appeared over and over again.

Real.

Genuine.

Joy.

Faith.

Family.

Friend.

Encouraging.

As someone who spends a lot of time thinking about outfits, I couldn’t help but smile that almost no one said, “I stay because you find cute clothes.” Instead, you talked about how this space makes you feel. Girls… that’s the greatest compliment I could ever receive.

Reading your responses made me realize something. We’ve never really been building a fashion or home decor brand. We’ve been building a community. Yes, we spend a lot of time talking about dresses, jeans, accessories, home finds, sales, and outfit formulas. But somewhere along the way, those conversations became about so much more.

You’ve watched me lose my biggest business cheerleader, my dad. Long before this became my full-time job, he believed in me. I would leave a Matilda Jane trunk show and he would call (because he remembered the schedule) and say “well, how’d the show do? Did you book any new hostesses?“ I can only imagine how he would be following along and constantly intrigued with Mix & Match Madness. We actually just said the other day… he would have pretended to hate The ‘Gram but would have loved it! Ha … anyway, point I am trying to make is - when we lost him, so many of you grieved right alongside our family.

You’ve celebrated some of life’s sweetest moments with us too… including the incredible gift of carrying Heath for my sister & Chris. What began as one of our family’s most personal journeys became something this community wrapped its arms around with so much love and prayer.

You’ve watched Kaiser, Mary Catherine, and James grow up. You’ve celebrated birthdays, vacations, football games, and ordinary Tuesdays. You’ve prayed through hard seasons, laughed when I’ve laughed at myself, and reminded me over and over that this little corner of the internet can still be a really cool place.

And somewhere along the way, many of you trusted me with pieces of your own stories too. That’s never something I’ll take lightly. To me, that’s what Mix & Match Madness has always been. Yes, we mix and match clothes. We believe in buying intentionally, wearing things on repeat, and that the right accessories can completely change an outfit. But we’re also mixing and matching life.

Real life….the joyful seasons. The heartbreaking ones. The chaotic ones. The “I’ve got this” days and the “Lord…you’re going to have to carry me today” days.

I’ve said for years that my goal is to help decrease the mental load, allowing you to feel more confident and enjoy the life you live. Sometimes that looks like giving you an outfit formula that gets you out the door in five minutes. Sometimes it’s sharing a great sale before it ends. Sometimes it’s organizing ideas so you don’t have to think about them. And sometimes, maybe the greatest gift we can give each other is simply the reminder that none of us is doing this alone.

Maybe that’s why so many of you used words like friend, encouragement, joy, faith, and real. What we’re really doing here is helping each other carry the load. That’s the kind of girl gang I’d want to be part of too… which is why I’ve never really loved the word followers. It feels so one-sided, like one person is talking while everyone else is listening. Girls, I say often, this is not a lecture hall (ha), and your comments & DMs prove that!

I’ve always pictured this community as one giant kitchen island with a whole lot of girlfriends gathered around it. One of us found the perfect pair of jeans. Another figured out how to style a dress three different ways. Someone asks for prayer. Someone shares a great sale. Someone celebrates a job promotion or a new grandbaby. Someone reminds us that showing up (even imperfectly) is enough.

The clothes may have introduced us, but I don’t think they are why or how this community has grown. I hear directly from many of you… it’s not why you stayed.

I think that’s what I’m celebrating most right now, not 100,000, but the fact that somehow, over all these years, this community just keeps getting bigger and better! I wish my dad were here to see 100,000. I don’t think he’d care much about the number either, he’d care about the women behind it.

He’d be proud that this little business (turned full blown career) became a place where women feel encouraged, where friendships have been built, where faith isn’t hidden, and where getting dressed has simply become one small way of making everyday life feel a little lighter.

So whether you’ve been here since the Matilda Jane days…since there were fewer than 10,000 of us…or whether you found Mix & Match Madness three weeks ago…

The last few weeks, we were working overtime trying to hit a huge goal, and somewhere along the way I left a few of those hats sitting on the rack. This week was all about picking them back up… and honestly, trying to layer them on top of each other in a little bit of a “yea, shouldn’t really do it like that” kinda way!

Some hats are a whole lot more fun to wear than others, and some are more of a privilege than others. Does that make sense?

One of my favorite hats … MOM! And this week? The mom hat was needed in a big way. I’m so grateful for a career that lets me say, “Okay, work can wait for a minute.” I never take for granted that I get to be the one who clocks myself in and out, that I get to work from home (sometimes it’s not all it’s cracked up to be though y’all), and that I get to do something I truly love to do….

Honestly, we may need a whole separate Substack just to talk about all the hats we wear…and reminding ourselves that we don’t have to wear all 10 at the same time. (Trust me, I’m preaching to myself here too.)

Summer dressing at it’s finest! I can see this dress being worn to so many events…lunch out, errands, dare I say…back to school?! The print is so good! Pairing with my tried and true Chloe bag and the jellies!

Loving this look from head to toe… Anthro for the win for this top and skirt! Mix and match this top with some jeans too! Don’t you love the pop of blue in the shoes?

Let’s dive right into what I’m loving recently (and just can’t keep to myself)…

Mixing and matching some of our favorite brands for this easy throw on and go outfit! These pants come in so many colors and are my go-to for comfort! Pairing them with the cutest tee and easy throw on sweater.

What I shared (the week before last- ha) …

Lake robe: My ultimate favorite robe…I don’t leave for a trip without it! The tie is attached so no losing that removable tie, it has pockets, and it’s just so cozy.

Our fav protein powder: My family uses this protein powder daily… throw it in smoothies or we even like to mix it in with our cupcake/cookies/waffle mixes.

Wide leg pants: I love these pants (and my girls do too)… they feel like the perfect pant to throw on with any outfit while still feeling put together.

Crossbody/shoulder bag: THE Italian leather handbags girls. The strap is adjustable so it’s perfect for any length desired…it’s a great daily bag.

Simple make up strategy: If you are like me and like to keep it easy and simple in the morning… these few products are gonna be for you.

Books: I’m all about starting my morning with some reading and quiet time… especially with how busy life can get. These are some of my favorite morning time reads.

Some hats are more enjoyable than others, some are more of a privilege than others. Does that make sense?

One of my favorites, ok maybe the 3rd most favorite hat I wear is MOM. (#1 being Jesus follower and #2 being wife)… Well, this week needed the mom hat a lot, and I am forever grateful for a career that allows me to say “ok, I’m putting this down for a minute.” I don’t take for granted that I report to myself to clock in and out of work, and that I get to work from home doing something I genuinely love.

Daily 5 Recap

What I shared this week…

Praying for our kiddos (or grandkiddos): I love this book for morning time/quiet time… it offers so many specific prompts and prayers when praying for (or with) your kiddos!

Stitch gun: I keep ours in our kitchen drawer because I (or my girls) end up using it more than you would think… it’s perfect if you need an extra stitch for more coverage on a V or even to secure collars down etc.

Necklaces: These necklaces go with any color/style and add the perfect statement for so many outfits.

Curling iron: This is my favorite curling iron for a good curl refresh. Works like a charm everytime!

Wicker baskets: I keep this one in my cloffice for a “catch all” kind of drawer, but it keeps things looking nice and organized!

Magnatiles: The perfect gift for any ages (literally older kids will love them just as much as littles) and the clean up is so easy!

Shoes: These sandals and sneakers are seriously just go-tos and match every outfit vibe.

Tailgate chair: The colors in this chair are so cute and they come with a strap attached so no annoying bags to carry!

The everything bags: the MUST HAVE bags that everyone needs in their life - the tote is fully lined and so roomy, and these storage bags are so durable.

Washable bag: Being able to throw this bag in the washing machine is literally a game changer. I have so many sizes and colors and they are all so great for daily use!

MacKenzie Child’s: The colors and patterns of the MacKenzie Child’s pieces are to die for! They are the perfect pieces to decorate the kitchen while also getting use out of the items!

Acrylic frames: I have so many of these frames in my cloffice and around the house… I love having coordinating frames to tie a space together and these are just perfect.

Restocked dress: Yall sold this one out before…but she’s back and better than ever! Grab her before she’s gone again!

BOGO sunnies: I’ve been loving these sunnies recently when I am running out of the house and need to grab a quick and cute pair… and they’re bogo?!?!

Handheld vacuum: A must around our house… it’s so easy to grab for little cleaning needs here and there. + if you know someone who is turning 16 it’s also a great car vacuum!

Necklace stack: Loving this stack and it’s on sale! The colors and layers are just a yes.

Well girls, your feed on the ‘gram has likely been taken over by The Zon Prime Days, Wally World Deal Days, or Tar-Jay Circle week. Am I right? I know mine has, and girls, I have fed into that- there are some great steals, deals, finds on those 3 retailers right now, but honestly, that’s not a fun game.
