The U.S. government’s public position is that strikes in early 2026 obliterated Iran’s nuclear weapons capability. The International Atomic Energy Agency — the UN body whose entire job is independent verification — says, in its own words, that it currently cannot confirm the size, location, or chemical form of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile.

Here’s what’s actually documented. Strikes hit Iran’s enrichment sites at Natanz and Isfahan. The IAEA confirmed the aboveground enrichment plant at Natanz was destroyed, along with conversion and fuel-fabrication facilities at Isfahan. But the agency had already reported, before the war, that most of Iran’s highly enriched uranium was stored not aboveground, but in an underground tunnel complex at Isfahan.

After the strikes, Iran suspended full cooperation with IAEA inspectors and has denied access to the damaged sites. As of the agency’s most recent board report this past June, it states plainly that it cannot verify the stockpile’s status — monitoring that used to be near-constant has gone almost entirely dark.

To be precise about what this is and isn’t: this is not evidence Iran is building a weapon. It’s a documented gap in independent verification, and that gap is itself the story. At the bottom of the chain is White Flame Energy Ltd, the actual holder of the original Jameson Land exploration licenses — permits dating back to 2015 and 2018, years before Greenland banned new oil and gas exploration in 2021. Those older licenses are the sole legal basis for the entire project; nothing here would be possible without them.

White Flame is owned by 80 Mile PLC, a London AIM-listed company that until recently was called Bluejay Mining — a penny-stock metals explorer with no meaningful revenue and a history of widening losses and cash burn, according to available financial reporting. Through a series of acquisitions in 2024 and 2026, 80 Mile bought its way to nearly full ownership of White Flame for a combined price of roughly £2.75 million — a modest sum for what’s now the foundation of a company with a Nasdaq-listed partner reporting a market cap in the hundreds of millions.

Greenland Energy Company (GLND) — the American, Nasdaq-listed entity most public reporting focuses on — doesn’t own the underlying licenses at all. Per its own SEC filings, it’s financing exploration activity in exchange for up to a 70% working interest in the project, an interest explicitly described in company filings as conditional and forfeitable if drilling milestones aren’t met.

And in July 2026, the two companies became even more entangled. 80 Mile’s own Executive Director, Roderick McIllree, was appointed Managing Director of Greenland Energy — placed directly in charge of Greenland permitting, regulatory engagement, and community relations. Four weeks later, the unauthorized equipment landing covered in Episode 1 happened under his watch.

The full chain, top to bottom: American investor capital → Greenland Energy (financing, no license ownership) → 80 Mile PLC (a recently-renamed British penny stock) → White Flame Energy (the actual 2015/2018-era license holder). Three companies, two countries, and one individual sitting at the operational intersection of the two upper layers.

None of this structure is illegal. Complex, multi-entity resource financing arrangements are common in the industry. But it does mean that no single company in this chain bears full, unambiguous accountability for what happens on the ground in Greenland — a structural reality worth understanding before evaluating any single company’s public statements in isolation.

In the time since, the picture has become considerably clearer — and considerably larger. According to Wall Street Journal reporting published August 20, 2026, SpaceX has now won more than $8 billion in Golden Dome-related contracts, representing at least a third of the program’s disclosed budget. That includes a $4.16 billion award for a satellite threat-detection system and a $2.29 billion award for a secure military communications network, both finalized within days of each other in late May 2026.

The concentration is notable even where competition existed. According to an independent analysis, in one program round the Space Force explicitly opened to nine competing firms, SpaceX still collected $6.45 billion of the $7.13 billion awarded — roughly 91% of the money. Sen. Jack Reed, ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has raised concerns about what he describes as a near-monopoly position in launch and satellite constellation contracts.

The timing adds another dimension. SpaceX’s Golden Dome awards accelerated around the same period the company pursued a public offering targeting a valuation exceeding $1.75 trillion — meaning Musk’s financial interest in these contracts is no longer confined to a privately held company, but now extends to a publicly traded one whose share price is directly affected by the same government decisions he had influence over as a Special Government Employee.

SpaceX’s funding request for Golden Dome work in fiscal year 2027 alone totals $17.9 billion.

On February 19, 2026, President Trump formally named Jared Kushner “Special Envoy for Peace,” tasking him with representing the United States in negotiations over Iran and Gaza. The appointment triggered a 10-day deadline for Kushner to publicly disclose his financial holdings.

At the same time, according to New York Times reporting based on five sources, Kushner was actively meeting with Gulf investors to raise at least $5 billion in new capital for his private investment firm, Affinity Partners — from many of the same governments he now negotiates with on behalf of the U.S. government.

The financial relationship isn’t new. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund invested $2 billion in Affinity in 2021, despite the fund’s own investment committee recommending against the deal over concerns about Kushner’s inexperience and high fees; Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman personally overruled that recommendation. Since then, Affinity has collected roughly $129 million in fees from the Saudi fund alone, according to a formal letter from Reps. Robert Garcia and Ron Wyden.

Congressional Democrats have tried repeatedly to get answers. Rep. Jamie Raskin, ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, sent Kushner a detailed letter on April 16, 2026. Neither Kushner nor Affinity’s legal department responded. Four months later, on August 24, 2026, Raskin sent a second letter confirming the continued silence — and revealing the House investigation has since expanded to include Kushner’s real estate practices as well.

Separately, the watchdog group Democracy Defenders Fund filed a formal complaint with the State Department’s Inspector General in March 2026, alleging the appointment itself may violate the federal anti-nepotism statute.

No court or federal agency has found Kushner criminally liable for any conflict described here. Every letter and complaint above remains an open, unanswered request.

On February 21, 2025, weeks into Musk’s DOGE tenure, the Department of Justice filed a notice of dismissal in its case against Musk and SpaceX. The dismissal was granted with prejudice three days later — meaning the case cannot be refiled.

Two months after that, on April 4, 2025, SpaceX was awarded a $5.9 billion Space Force contract for rocket launches and satellite operations through 2029.

Congressional Democrats flagged the pattern directly. Reps. Stephen Lynch and Gerald Connolly wrote to the Pentagon’s Acting General Counsel that Musk’s companies had received a combined $9.5 billion in Defense Department contracts, loans, and subsidies while Musk simultaneously oversaw DOGE’s influence over the agencies responsible for regulating those same companies. “The known conflicts of interest presented by this arrangement are illegal and must be addressed immediately,” the letter states.

On May 1, 2025, Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Greg Casar led 40 members of Congress in asking the Pentagon’s Inspector General to investigate Musk’s involvement in the “Golden Dome” missile defense program — contracts Reuters has reported could be worth trillions of dollars, with SpaceX identified as a frontrunner.

Even after Musk’s formal departure from government in mid-2025, the scrutiny continued. On April 16, 2026, Sens. Warren and Blumenthal sent a new letter to the National Labor Relations Board, demanding an explanation for why the agency dropped labor charges against SpaceX and whether it had communicated with Musk or his representatives beforehand.

No court or federal agency has found Musk criminally liable for any conflict of interest described here. Every referral above remains an open request for investigation, not a finding of wrongdoing.

Before closing, one update on our least-confirmed thread. Last episode covered Amistad Financial Group, a company that barely existed before November 2025 and now controls an estimated $53 billion in retirement assets, reportedly registered at Walter’s own filing address. We flagged that reporting as unconfirmed by this production. That remains true, and we’ll continue tracking it after this series ends.

The rest of the picture has moved quickly. Both Mark Walter and Todd Boehly are reportedly willing to sell their Chelsea Football Club stakes to majority owner Clearlake Capital — a move that would consolidate control of one of the world’s biggest football clubs, driven by a U.S. insurance investigation an ocean away. This month, TWG Global hired David Markowitz, a Goldman Sachs veteran who helped negotiate that bank’s 1MDB settlements, as its chief legal officer — the clearest signal yet of how seriously the company is treating potential criminal exposure.

The deadline underlying all of it: by December 31st, Walter’s companies need to remove approximately $20 billion in loans from his insurers’ books. The Lakers sale, even at a record $12.5 billion, covers roughly a third of that figure.

The Wall Street Journal has also reported that Walter suffered a stroke during the 2024 World Series, and that federal investigators are aware of the incident — a detail that adds a health and succession dimension to a story that started as a straightforward financing question.

If the underlying insurers fail to meet their obligations, state guaranty-fund laws spread that cost across the broader insurance industry through mandatory assessments — assessments that are themselves tax-creditable, meaning the final backstop runs through other policyholders and state tax revenue, not through Walter’s own balance sheet.

The Lakers were never the whole story. They were the first thing sold to buy time before the rest of this comes due.

In January 2026, the Commerce Department issued a letter of intent to invest up to $1.6 billion in USA Rare Earth, a critical-minerals company that had previously held only one federal contract, worth under $100,000. The same week, USA Rare Earth announced a separate $1.5 billion private capital raise — with Cantor Fitzgerald serving as the deal’s lead placement agent, a paid role.

Three senators — Elizabeth Warren, Ron Wyden, and Chris Van Hollen — wrote to Lutnick directly on February 25, 2026: “We have serious concerns about the Commerce Department’s decision to enter this deal in which your former firm, run by your sons, has a clear financial interest.” Their letter noted that under the deal’s structure, “Cantor acted as a compensated broker for a company whose financial position was bolstered by as much as $1.6 billion in public funds from your Department.”

House Science Committee Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren sent a separate letter in March, disclosing a further detail from USA Rare Earth’s own SEC filings: the federal government retains its full equity stake in the company even if it later withdraws its investment entirely — a term Lofgren called “extraordinary and even bizarre.”

No lawmaker has alleged Lutnick violated his ethics agreement, and by its literal terms, he complied with it. The question raised across multiple congressional letters is narrower and, in some ways, more uncomfortable: whether transferring an asset to one’s own children satisfies the purpose of a conflict-of-interest rule, even when it satisfies the letter of one.
