This can only be described as a form of mass insanity among intellectuals. The scale and character of the cosmos our home planet inhabits, about which we have learned so much more than our literal and philosophical ancestors in the last half-century since the advent of spaceflight and modern telescopes, has profound implications for every aspect of our existence and self-conception, and therefore for the structure of our societies.

This Thursday, August 6th, at 7pm, I will deliver a lecture explaining these implications for industry, technology, science, economic growth, and demographics; why interstellar expansion is ultimately the necessary destiny of any functional human civilization and the only mission through which we can solve our urgent present-day economic, political, and demographic problems; and how we should think about automation and artificial intelligence in the context of a spacefaring future. The talk will be the first of a series of talks organized by Palladium Magazine, and will be held at Avalon Institute in San Francisco.
