It almost never works. We buy it. We wear it once, maybe twice. It doesn’t feel like us. And eventually it joins the pile: the forgotten half of the wardrobe that never gets touched, that we walk past every morning on the way to the same three outfits we always reach for.

The numbers behind the feeling

We’ve been puzzled by one question since we started building MYMIKA: why do most people only wear about 10% of what’s in their closet?

We knew there was a psychological explanation: our brains are only wired to hold about three things in active consideration at once. When life gets busy, we reach for what’s easiest. The outfit we know just works. The one that requires no thinking.

But the data from a recent study by Vestiaire Collective and WRAD, spanning respondents across France, Italy, Germany, the UK, and the US, revealed something deeper and more interesting than cognitive load. I bet this extends to Asia too.

84% of people have felt they have nothing to wear. For Gen Z, that number rises to 94%. People underestimate the size and value of their own wardrobes by 40%.

And here is the finding that stopped us in our tracks: 70% of “I have nothing to wear” moments are driven by emotion, not by what’s actually in the closet. 39% are linked to body image. 22% stem from feelings of insecurity.

It’s an emotional disconnect between what we own and who we are or who we wish we could be. That item we bought because it promised to solve something. To make us feel a certain way. To close a gap between who we are and who we imagine ourselves becoming.

It almost never delivers. And now it lives in the pile.

A different kind of movement

We want to propose something that goes against almost everything the fashion industry is built on.

Search Your Outfits

Have you ever made an outfit on MYMIKA only to realise you’d made almost the same one before? Or had an idea for a look but couldn’t remember if you’d tried it already?

Search is now live on your outfits page.

Pick an item or a combination of items and MYMIKA will surface every outfit you’ve ever made that includes them. If nothing comes up, you can create freely knowing there are no duplicates waiting. And if something does come up, you might just find the inspiration you were looking for from your own past looks.

Your Calendar and Your Outfits Are Now Separate

Several of you told us you use your calendar exactly as we intended: as a daily outfit diary. A record of what you actually wore, ordinary days and special ones alike. Your outfits page, on the other hand, is a living library: a place to save favourite looks, explore combinations, and build a personal style archive.

These two things should be independent. And for a while, they weren’t.

There was a bug: if you edited a saved outfit that had been logged to a specific date, your calendar entry changed too, which messed with your outfit diary without you realising. That’s now fixed.

What’s logged on your calendar now stays exactly as it was. Edit an outfit on your outfits page as many times as you like and your calendar won’t change.

We’ve also extended this to items you’ve since removed from your closet. If you donated a dress recently but wore it to a birthday dinner in the past and logged it, it stays in your calendar. We’ll grey it out to show it’s no longer in your active closet, but the memory remains. Because your calendar is a diary, and diaries don’t get edited.

This is the first iteration. Improvements are on the way. Keep the feedback coming!

Cost Per Wear and Most Worn In Your Stats

We feel strongly about this one.

Make the most of what you have isn’t just a motto, it’s a belief that the clothes you already own should be working harder for you. Cost per wear is how we measure that.

Keep logging what you wear. Add the price you paid for each item in your item detail card. Watch the cost per wear drop every time you reach for something. And head to your Closet Stats page to see which items are your best purchases either by number of wears or by cost per wear.

As someone who studied finance, I like to see money work hard. I want that for you too. It’s genuinely satisfying when a piece you splurged on earns its place.

MYMIKA Now Remembers Your Sizes

Sizes are inconsistent across brands. An S at Uniqlo is not the same as an S at Bershka. And remembering what size you usually take at each brand — across every category — is the kind of mental overhead nobody needs.

MYMIKA now remembers for you.

Once we know your typical size for a brand and category, we’ll auto-fill it across your past and future items from that brand. No more checking tags. No more guessing. And in the future, when you’re shopping online, MYMIKA will be able to remind you exactly what size to order from brands you’ve bought before.

These four features are all building toward the same thing.

That was barely a decade ago.

Technology changed how we shop and it changed us as consumers along the way. We went from skeptical to comfortable to completely dependent on browsing online, almost without noticing. Today we think nothing of buying shoes we’ve never touched, furniture we’ve never sat in, clothes we’ve never tried on.

But something else happened alongside that convenience. We got overwhelmed.

In fashion, this personal curator will arrive in the form of a digital shopping agent. An AI that knows your style, understands your life, and finds things that are genuinely right for you; not just things that are trending, or things that performed well in an ad, or things that happen to be on sale this week.

But here’s the question nobody is talking about yet.

For a digital shopping agent to truly serve you, to find things you’ll actually love and actually wear, it needs to know something no algorithm currently knows.

We want your saved outfits to feel like a curated highlight reel, not an overflowing drawer. This week we took the first step toward that.

Introducing Stacks

When you open your outfits page, you’ll now notice that outfits sharing the same core foundation — the same top and bottom combination — are grouped together into a stack. A number on each stack tells you how many outfit variations live inside.

Think of it this way: maybe your foundation is a white t-shirt and jeans. But around that base, you’ve styled it a dozen different ways: different layers, shoes, accessories, moods. Those variations now live together in one place, easy to find and compare.

Click into any stack and you’ll see your foundational pairing as the anchor, with all the ways you’ve built around it laid out clearly. It’s a new way to see just how far one outfit base can take you.

Coming next: a similar outfits toggle that surfaces looks with overlapping pieces. Not just the same foundation, but outfits that share one or two items. More ways to discover combinations you might have forgotten.

You’re in Control of Your Weather Recommendations

We’ve heard from many of you about weather-based outfit recommendations and we listened.

MYMIKA factors in the weather when suggesting outfits. But temperature tolerance is deeply personal. A cardigan on a mild day might be perfect for one person and completely unreasonable for another. The same goes for materials like leather. Some of you wear it year-round, others only when it’s genuinely cold.

Until now, MYMIKA learned this gradually from your interactions. That still happens. But we wanted to give you more immediate control.

In your item detail card, you’ll now find a Temperature field. Set the range in which you’d like MYMIKA to consider that item for outfit recommendations. If you’d never wear leather above 15°C, tell us. If a cardigan works for you at any temperature, tell us that too.

Your wardrobe, your rules. Personalisation is the point and this is our first step in putting that control directly in your hands.

What we’re building

Shopping has always been part of where MYMIKA was heading. The question was never if, it was how to do it in a way that’s true to what we care about.

So, here’s what the team has been working on.

We’re building a Shopify integration that brings MYMIKA’s core strength: helping people see the possibilities of their wardrobe, directly into the shopping experience.

Phase 1

Phase one gives brands the ability to build outfit boards directly on their product pages. Not just styled campaign images, but real outfit combinations that show the range of ways a piece can be worn. The imagination expander, before you buy.

Phase 2

Phase two is where it gets personal. As a customer, you’ll be able to connect your MYMIKA closet and see, before you purchase, exactly how a new piece fits into what you already own. The outfits it unlocks. The gaps it fills. Whether it’s truly worth it.

For brands, this isn’t just about conversion. A customer who buys with confidence is a customer who doesn’t return your item. Who comes back. Who becomes loyal. Happy customer, second time customer, long-term customer, that’s what we’re building toward together.

We’re already testing this with a small group of brands and the early results have been encouraging. But this is MYMIKA, and we never build alone.

Your homepage has a new section called Your Best Purchase. It surfaces either your most worn item — logged through your outfit calendar — or the item with the best cost per wear in your closet. Whichever tells the better story.

It’s interactive too. Tap into any item, add what you paid for it, and MYMIKA calculates your cost per wear automatically based on how many times you’ve logged it. The more you wear something, the more satisfying that number gets.

Did you splurge on something and wonder if it was worth it? Now you’ll know. That’s what we’re here to show you.

An update on image improvements

Image improvements have become one of the most loved features on MYMIKA — and we understand why. The ability to see your clothes beautifully presented, as if your closet were its own clean e-commerce catalogue, changes how you relate to what you own. It’s the visual foundation that makes everything else possible.

As we’ve grown, we’ve thought carefully about how to make this feature sustainable and fair for everyone on the platform. We also looked at real usage data and asked ourselves: what’s the number of improvements that actually produces the best closet experience?

Here’s what we’ve landed on.

New users receive 15 image improvements automatically.
Once you surpass 50 items in your closet, you receive another 15 improvements — because a larger closet deserves more investment.
After that, you receive 3 improvements per day, refreshing daily.

For most users, this covers everything you’ll need to build a beautiful digital closet. But we know some of you push the limits — in the best possible way. So we’ve added a pay for more button as an option for those who want additional improvements beyond the daily allowance. For now this is exploratory. We’re learning what the right structure looks like and your interest helps us figure that out. If you feel you need more, tap it and let us know.

Our world is literally getting hotter.

2023 to 2025 together broke a heat threshold that had never been broken before. As I write this, wildfire smoke from Canada has drifted across major U.S. cities, deadly floods have hit several communities, and record heat has strained countries from the United States to Europe to Asia. These aren’t abstract statistics anymore. They’re the weather outside the window.

Why We Never Led With Sustainability

I set out to build MYMIKA with one mission: to help people make the most of what they have.

The value underneath that mission — the thing that drives it — is wanting to treat our world better. If MYMIKA inspires someone to rewear something they already own instead of buying something new, that’s a win. If it quietly deters a fast fashion impulse purchase, that’s a win too. These are the wins we celebrate most.

But sustainability was never our main message. And that was a deliberate choice.

The word has been so greenwashed, so co-opted by brands claiming values they don’t live, that leading with it can actually undermine trust.

More importantly, guilt has never been a reliable driver of lasting behaviour change. We didn’t want to guilt anyone into using MYMIKA. We believed that if we built something that genuinely solved a real problem, people would use it. And if they used it, the sustainability benefit would follow naturally.

20,000 of You Proved Us Right

We just crossed 20,000 users. I still can’t fully believe it.

For every one of you who has digitised over 150 items in your closet, I still send a personal email. What comes back are some of the warmest messages I’ve ever received. So many of you have told me that MYMIKA helped you discover new ways of wearing pieces you already owned: things that had been sitting there, out of sight, out of reach, waiting.

Our hypothesis was right. Our closets hold so much more than we think. Sometimes things are hidden out of sight. Sometimes we just don’t have the time or energy to experiment. MYMIKA brings it all into view. It’s like your wardrobe becomes a clean, beautiful catalogue, but everything in it is already yours. Finding combinations that feel right is just one tap away.

The Best Cherry on Top

Here’s the part that genuinely moves me.

Every time you find a new way to wear something you already own, every outfit rediscovered, every piece pulled back into rotation, you’re doing something good for the planet too. Not because we told you to. Not out of guilt. Just as a natural consequence of using what you have.

This week, we made some meaningful progress on the back end and it felt like the right moment to explain how our recommendation engine works.

A smarter unlock threshold

Historically, MYMIKA started making outfit recommendations once you surpassed 28 items in your closet. We’ve come to realise that number alone doesn’t tell the whole story.

Here’s why: you could have 29 items in your closet and 90% of them are tops. MYMIKA will try to build outfits for you, but without enough variety, it’ll struggle — producing incomplete combinations like two tops and a shoe. That’s not a great experience and it’s not a fair reflection of what MYMIKA can do.

So this week, we updated the threshold.

Outfit recommendations can now unlock when you reach 15 items but only if you’ve achieved a balanced mix — at least 5 tops, 5 bottoms, and 5 items from a third category (shoes, accessories, headwear, etc.). The goal is simple: MYMIKA needs enough variety to build real outfits before it starts suggesting them.

Why recommendations improve over time

Having a balanced closet unlocks recommendations. But the quality of those recommendations improves as MYMIKA learns from you and that part is important to understand.

One of our core values at MYMIKA is that we will never try to imprint a style, a trend, or a look onto you. Our recommendations are designed to celebrate your personal eye — to piece together the clothes you already love in ways you might not have thought of yourself. For MYMIKA to do that well, it needs to learn from you first.

The best way to start: create a few outfits, save them to your outfit library, and log them to a corresponding date when you wear them.

From those outfit boards, MYMIKA picks up on a few things:

How you construct an outfit

Are you a top, bottom, shoes person and that’s enough? Or do you love a full look with an outer layer, a bag, and accessories? MYMIKA learns your preference and builds around it.

Your colour approach

Are you drawn to monochrome looks? Classic neutrals with a pop of colour? Or are you a maximalist who loves to experiment? Your saved outfits teach MYMIKA your palette.

Your weather tolerance

MYMIKA factors in the weather when making recommendations. At the extremes it’s straightforward — a very cold day will get a jacket, a very hot day won’t. But most of our daily lives happen in the middle ranges, where personal tolerance varies enormously. A 25°C day might call for a cardigan for some and a tank top for others. The more outfits you log to your calendar across different seasons, the better MYMIKA gets at knowing what works for you specifically.

Just like a personal stylist needs time to learn your lifestyle and preferences before their recommendations truly click, MYMIKA works the same way. The more you interact, the better it gets. And as we introduce more complete recommendations down the line (matching a vibe, dressing for a purpose, and maybe even some shopping suggestions — hint hint 👀), everything will be tailored more precisely to you.

Your July style diary

July marks our first full month since launching the calendar and we’ve loved seeing your monthly recaps come in.

As you log more outfits, MYMIKA starts to spot patterns. This month we’re highlighting two: the colours you’ve been reaching for most, and your single most worn item. Maybe it’s a reliable white top. Maybe it’s something completely unexpected.

In your closet, you can now filter for items you haven’t worn, items you haven’t styled, and your recent go-tos. In a specific collection, you can check whether there are pieces you’ve never actually styled and whether they’re really earning their place. In your outfits, you can surface looks you’ve planned but never worn, or your most reached-for combinations.

We love an outfit repeater. There’s a reason you keep going back to the same looks and now you can see exactly which ones they are.

Your forgotten gems

On your homepage, we’ll start highlighting pieces that have quietly slipped out of your outfit rotation. Sometimes that’s intentional. Sometimes you just forgot they were there.

Either way, we’ll bring them back into view and leave it entirely up to you what you do with them next.

Growing up, fashion was a polarising field

The fashionable girls had an exclusive club you could never quite break into. The “you can’t sit with us” energy was everywhere — and yet every girl wanted in. The industry thrived on that tension. On aspiration and insecurity in equal measure. Selling us things so we could be more like someone else, so we could hide the parts of ourselves we’d been told were wrong. Look more slim. Look taller. More voluptuous. More understated. Everything contradictory, all at once so we could fit in without disappearing entirely.

And the rules. There were so many rules. But follow them too closely and you were trying too hard, you had no eye, you weren’t really fashionable. It was a deliberately confusing landscape almost designed to keep us always chasing. Chasing to buy more. Chasing some version of perfect that was never quite defined. You should wear this but not with that. Only this season, because by next season you’ll be dated. And that colour doesn’t suit you.

All of it designed to keep the engine running. To keep the cycle going. To ensure the industry stayed exactly as exclusive as it needed to be to survive.

But there are beautiful parts of fashion too.

The self-expression. The confidence that comes when you’ve genuinely nailed a look and you know it: that feeling when you step out and you’re completely, unapologetically yourself. The ability to show the world exactly who you are in that moment, without a single word.

Something is shifting. I feel it. Our generation is pushing back against the rules, reclaiming personal style as something that belongs to us. Not to an industry, not to a trend cycle, not to anyone else’s judgement. Voices are emerging who break down the limitations fashion has historically thrived on. Who show up for themselves, dress for what makes them happy, and trust their own eye without apology.

Her channel does something I deeply admire: it calls out the insecurities and fears that fashion has always weaponised and turns them into something celebratory instead. Not “here’s how to look better.” More like: here’s permission to trust yourself. Here’s why your instincts are already good. Here’s what fashion looks like when it’s genuinely fun.

When we first spoke, it was clear immediately that we were building toward the same thing. MYMIKA started because we wanted to help people make the most of what they already have; not to push them to buy more, but to help them see what they already own more clearly. Fiona’s whole ethos lives in that same space. The collaboration felt less like a partnership and more like a natural extension of a conversation we were already having.

If you don’t know Fiona yet, please go find her. She is as warm in person as she is on screen. She’s been using MYMIKA as part of her everyday life, letting it help her with daily dressing decisions, and sharing that process openly with her community. That’s our motto at MYMIKA and the reason we started building in the first place. But lately we’ve been thinking about something that comes before the wearing: the buying.

In Taiwan, there’s a concept we talk about a lot: CP值 (CP Zhr) — cost-performance value. Are you getting the most out of what you spend? Is it actually worth it?

Here’s a theory I’ve held for a long time. A cheap item might not give you the best value because you get what you pay for, and most of the time, a cheaper piece falls apart after a few wears.

A well-made item, worn again and again, can actually cost you less per use over time. And I’m not talking about luxury brands here because we all know that a big part of what’s priced into a luxury label is the branding itself. That’s a different kind of value, and how much it’s worth is entirely personal.

What I’m talking about is something more straightforward. The independent designer who sources her materials carefully and sews every piece with intention. The brand that charges more because it’s built to last. The item you saved up for because you knew you’d reach for it constantly.

That’s the kind of value Cost Per Wear was made to measure. Are you actually getting the most out of what you paid for?

Cost Per Wear

Starting today, every time you log an outfit as worn on MYMIKA, we automatically track it as a wear count for that item.

If you know how much you paid for a piece, you can add that in your item detail card and we’ll calculate your cost per wear automatically. The more you wear something, the lower the cost per wear gets, and the more value you’re extracting from it.

Already owned something for a while before we introduced the calendar function? You can manually edit the wear count in your item detail card to reflect reality.

Over time, we'll start surfacing the items in your closet with the best and worst cost per wear — your best buys, and the pieces still waiting to earn their keep.

This one has been a long time coming.

We debated it. We tested it. We previewed it with some of you. And now it’s here.

As more of you have discovered MYMIKA over the past few weeks, we realised something: you didn’t have an easy way to tell us when something wasn’t working. That needed to change.

Right now, this is your direct line to us. Spotted a bug? Something not working the way it should? Have a feature request or an idea? Tell us. Our team sees every message and takes each one seriously. We’re a small team. We may not be able to respond to everything directly but you are the reason we exist and we will always prioritise what you tell us.

This is a one-way channel for now. We’re listening, not yet responding directly in the box. But this is just the beginning.

We’re watching how you use it. We’re listening to what you ask for. Because what we really want to know is: what would you want to be able to do with a feature like this on MYMIKA?

Bulk Delete

We’ve heard from many of you that removing items from your closet is cumbersome. You have your reasons for wanting to delete an item from your closet: whether it’s an imperfect extraction, a duplicate, or something that ended up in your closet that you don’t actually own. Our system used to force you to delete items one by one, which is far too time consuming.

Now you can use the select button to multi-select the pieces you’d like to remove.

The same function works inside collections too and if you’re removing something from a collection, it’s smart enough to know not to delete the piece from your closet entirely.

Some of you have been keeping notes.

Actual notes. On your phone. A running list of what you wore each day, organised by occasion or color or brand. We’ve seen them. We were equal parts impressed and inspired.

You shouldn’t have to do that manually anymore.

Every outfit you’ve logged with MYMIKA is now laid out by month in your calendar view so you can see, at a glance, what you’ve actually been wearing. The patterns that emerge are the interesting part.

A color you kept reaching for without realising. A week where you dressed up more than usual. A month that turned out to be almost entirely neutral tones.

That’s the kind of thing your calendar will start telling you. For now, we surface the most common colors you wore in any given month. As we iterate, we’ll surface more: your most worn item, the piece that needs more love, themes that emerged across the month without you planning them.

We also know that depending on where you are in the world, you’re used to seeing your week laid out differently. In some places Sunday starts the week. In others it’s Monday. We’ve built the calendar to reflect however you naturally think about your week: choose Sunday, Monday, or Saturday when you first open your calendar. We ask once and you can update it in settings anytime.

Maybe that’s you. You signed up, you looked at your wardrobe, and the gap between where you were and where you needed to be felt like too much. So the web app sat. The closet stayed empty. And life moved on.

MYMIKA is built with insights from people like Amie: someone who was curious, saw the potential, and stayed to see where we were heading. She was someone we reached for when we wanted to understand exactly what was standing in the way.

This is her story. And somehow, without ever intending to, it became part of ours too.

Meet Amie

Amie signed up when we first released our MVP a year ago. She was curious; however, she had a problem we hadn’t solved yet.

Most of her wardrobe doesn’t exist on the internet. No product pages. No clean flat-lays. No brand shots to search for. Her pieces are personal: the kind you find over time, collect slowly, and love in a way that has nothing to do with whether they’re shoppable. Taking her own photos meant effort, inconsistency, and results that never quite looked the way she wanted.

So her digital closet stayed quiet.

If that sounds familiar, it should. Through Amie, we understood something important: this isn’t a motivation problem. It’s a friction problem. And she helped us see where the friction lived for many of you.

The Experiment That Changed Everything

When we began testing outfit extraction, the ability to pull individual pieces directly from a photo of yourself, we asked Amie for feedback.

For a few weeks, she took a photo of her outfit every day and shared it with us. We extracted and reviewed the results together. It didn’t always work and because Amie knows every piece in her wardrobe intimately, she could tell us not just whether an extraction was wrong, but why. That specificity was everything.

The extraction feature that lives on MYMIKA today exists in the form it does because of Amie.

And we’re not done. Through her feedback, we identified the next wave of improvements: cleaner extractions from hanger shots, better color accuracy, removing mannequins from product images. These are in the works now, in part because of what she showed us.

This is how MYMIKA gets built. Not in a boardroom. In conversations exactly like the ones we had with her.

The Habit That Built Her Closet

Something unexpected happened during those weeks of testing. Amie built a habit.

Not a project. Not a weekend marathon of photographing every item she owned. Just a small, daily ritual: take a photo of today’s outfit, upload it, let MYMIKA do the rest.

Two weeks later, she had over 100 pieces in her digital closet.

That number can sound intimidating if your closet has five items in it, or none. But here’s what it actually represents: two weeks of getting dressed in the morning. Nothing more. Amie didn’t face the mountain. She just took one step every day, and the mountain quietly disappeared behind her.

Do that enough days in a row and something remarkable happens: your digital closet starts to fill itself. And then we looked at our welcome page — the very first thing a new user sees — and realised it wasn’t showing any of it.

So when you log into MYMIKA as a new comer, we’ll ask you to start with what you’re wearing. A quick photo of today’s outfit — or yesterday’s, or one from your camera roll — automatically adds at least three pieces to your digital closet and gives us our first real glimpse of your style.

Three full looks is all we need. After that, recommendations start. Style analysis begins. Stats fill up. Calendar logging activates.

You don’t need a full closet to experience everything MYMIKA can do. You just need three outfits and about five minutes.

Today I want to introduce you to Dianne. She was one of our very first users, she has shaped this product more than she probably knows, and her closet is one of the most extraordinary we’ve seen on MYMIKA.

Meet Dianne

If you’ve seen Dianne’s Instagram — she’s @dianneisdressed — you already know her before you know her. Her outfits are full of colour, bold pattern, and pieces she’s often made or upcycled herself. She has a designer’s eye and a thrifter’s instinct, and the combination is genuinely rare.

Her relationship with clothes is deeply intentional. She thrifts, she upcycles, she thinks carefully about every piece she brings into her life. For Dianne, getting dressed isn’t just about style, it’s about living her values out loud, every single day.

Her Closet in Numbers

Dianne started to use MYMIKA in the summer of 2025, shortly after we launched. She was one of our first power users and today she has over 300 pieces in her digital closet and she’s still adding.

That number matters beyond the obvious. Because when you have 300 pieces catalogued, patterns start to emerge. The data starts to say things. And in Dianne’s case, what it said surprised her.

What MYMIKA Revealed

Dianne is, by any measure, a colour person. Walk into her wardrobe and you’re met with a riot of hues: prints layered on prints, textures you wouldn’t think to put together but somehow she always makes work. Colour is her language.

So when she pulled up her closet stats and saw the colour breakdown of everything she owned, she expected to see exactly that. What she didn’t expect was the black.

She owned more black than she thought. A lot more. And when she looked closer, she realised something she hadn’t consciously noticed before: almost all of her work outfits involved black. The colourful, experimental Dianne that showed up on weekends was a different dresser to the Dianne who showed up on Monday morning. Her wardrobe was telling her something about the version of herself she was and wasn’t bringing to work.

That’s the kind of thing a digital closet can show you. Not just what you own, but how you actually live in what you own.

The Features She Loves And Why They Exist

Dianne uses MYMIKA every day: planning outfits for work, events, and travel. As a visual thinker, she gravitates toward our colour filters, grouping pieces by hue to build outfits the way her brain naturally works. Those filters exist, in part, because of conversations with Dianne.

That’s something we mean genuinely when we say our users shape this product. Every feature we’ve built came from watching how someone like Dianne actually lives inside their wardrobe. Closet stats. Advanced filters. The balance score, which recently told Dianne that her closet is in excellent balance across categories, a small thing that made her quietly proud.

We’re also starting to introduce sourcing tags: New, Thrifted, Gifted, so users like Dianne can see not just what they own, but where it all came from. For someone whose values around sustainability run this deep, that data means something.

The Unexpected Mirror

The thing about a digital closet, the thing Dianne keeps coming back to, is that it holds up a mirror you didn’t know you needed.

She didn’t set out to learn something about herself. She set out to organise her wardrobe. But 300 pieces in, the data started reflecting something back. The colours she gravitates toward. The gap between her weekend self and her work self. The balance she’d built without realising it. The black items she’d never consciously chosen but somehow accumulated.

A wardrobe, it turns out, knows things about you that you haven’t quite articulated yet. MYMIKA just helps you see it.

Owning better is not the same as using better.

Even in highly intentional wardrobes, most garments are underutilized. Studies often cite that we wear a small fraction of what we own regularly. The reasons are rarely dramatic. They are behavioral. Cognitive. Human.

Our brains optimize for ease. We rely on recency. We default to outfits that have “worked” before. When getting dressed becomes one decision among many in a busy day, we narrow our choices without realizing it. Over time, this quiet narrowing turns versatile pieces into occasional ones.

Sustainability, then, does not unravel in production alone. It erodes in repetition.

Storywear, based in Taiwan, has built its philosophy around extending the life of materials that have already existed. Their use of upcycled denim is not just aesthetic; it is structural. Each garment carries traces of previous lives. Stitching is visible. Repair is not hidden but honored. Craftsmanship is not about perfection, it is about continuation.

There is a seriousness in that approach. It assumes that clothing should accumulate meaning rather than discard it.

And yet even a garment designed for longevity can quietly settle into a single styling pattern. A jacket becomes “the jacket you wear with black trousers.” A vest becomes “the piece for special occasions.” The object itself has potential range, but our habits compress it.

This tension is where I find myself thinking most often.

If sustainability asks us to buy fewer pieces, then the next question is unavoidable: how do we ensure those pieces are actually worn to their full potential?

The industry has spent years innovating on materials, supply chains, and circular production models. These are critical advances. But the behavioral side of longevity: how people actually interact with what they own over years, remains underexplored.

Using Technology to Make the Most of What You Own

We tend to assume that intention will naturally translate into usage. It rarely does.

This is the gap that led us to build MYMIKA.

Not as a shopping platform, and not as a trend engine. But as a system designed to support re-wear. A digital infrastructure that makes a wardrobe visible in its entirety, so that styling becomes an act of exploration rather than recall.

When garments are isolated in a physical closet, they compete for attention. When they are visualized together, combinations multiply. Pieces once perceived as “limited” reveal flexibility. The simple act of seeing what you own changes how you use it.

Craftsmanship deserves continuity. But continuity is not automatic. It requires reinforcement.

If Storywear approaches longevity through design and repair, then the complementary question becomes behavioral: how do we support customers in extending the life of those pieces through repeated, varied use?

The future of sustainable fashion will not be built by materials alone. It will also be built by systems that help people engage more fully with what they already own.

We know that not everyone has the time, or the lighting, to take a perfect photo of every item in their closet. You shouldn’t have to. That’s our job.

Starting today, when MYMIKA detects that one of your closet item images could be improved, you’ll see a small icon notification on that item. Tap it and we’ll show you two AI-enhanced versions of your image alongside your original, so you can compare them side by side. You’ll also have the option to upload a new photo entirely if you prefer.

You choose. Keep the original, accept the enhancement, or start fresh. Every decision about your closet stays yours.

This is the same quality of image output you’d get through our extraction flow: clean background, clear detail, properly presented. Now available for any item in your closet, regardless of how it was uploaded.

1. A new way to start: just describe what you’re wearing right now

Instead of asking you to upload your entire wardrobe before you see any value, we’re experimenting with a chat function that lets you simply describe what you’re wearing at the moment: the top, the bottom, the shoes. Tell MYMIKA what you have on and we’ll start building your closet from that single outfit. You’ll see via this exercise that it only takes 3-5 outfits for you to experience your first recommendation from us.

No mountain to climb before the magic happens. Just one outfit. One conversation. And your first glimpse of what MYMIKA can do.

2. The moment that changes everything

Most of our engaged users will tell you the same thing: there was a moment. A specific moment when they saw MYMIKA put together an outfit using their actual clothes and something clicked. That’s the moment we’re trying to get every new user to as fast as possible.

Twelve months ago, we were so proud of a product that, looking back now, we find a little embarrassing to describe.

There was no outfit creation. No recommendations. No extraction. Just a digital closet: a place to upload pictures of your clothes and catalogue what you owned. And even that came with restrictions. We recommended finding flat lay product images online, no models, or taking your own pictures and manually removing the background yourself using iPhone’s copy subject feature. Our AI could auto-categorise some attributes: category, colour, material, sometimes brand. That was it.

That was the product Andie discovered when she first found MYMIKA.

She understood it immediately. Not what it was, what it could be. She saw the concept, felt the potential, and made a decision that we think about often: she took a risk on us. Not just by using us. By working with us.

What that actually looked like

Andie built her digital closet the hard way. Item by item. Image by image. When pictures weren’t clean enough she fixed them herself: manually, painstakingly, with tools we hadn’t built yet because we hadn’t built much of anything yet.

She worked with us through the bugs. Through features that never made it to the public. Through an extraction technology we were so unhappy with that we took it down entirely and that she quietly, persistently pushed us to bring back. Because she had lived without it and she knew, better than we did in that moment, that even an imperfect version was better than the alternative.

She sat through previews of things that weren’t ready. She gave us feedback that was honest without being unkind: the particular skill of someone who genuinely wants the thing to be good, not just the thing to be done. She let us watch how she used MYMIKA with each new improvement, each new feature, each new attempt to get closer to what we had promised her it could be.

Through all of it she kept showing up.

That kind of generosity: of time, of attention, of genuine belief in something that hadn’t earned it yet, is not something you can manufacture. You can only receive it and try to be worthy of it.

Her fingerprints

Today, MYMIKA looks different. It works differently. Extraction exists. Outfit recommendations exist: the evolution from recommending just two items on a board to a fuller, more inspiring, more complete way of seeing how your clothes work together, exists.

Andie’s fingerprints are on all of it.

Not because she designed any of it. Because she used it, questioned it, pushed back on it, and helped us see what it needed to become. When an outfit board felt sparse she told us. When a feature didn’t add enough to justify itself she told us that too. When something we previewed for her genuinely excited her we paid attention because we had learned that if it excited Andie, it would translate.

We still operate that way. She is still one of the first people to see what we’re working on. Because something that is useful for Andie, someone using MYMIKA every day, across events and travel and work and everything in between, tends to be useful for a lot of people.

Hong Kong

When MYMIKA started to find its community in Hong Kong and we began thinking about our first event there, the question of who to work with had an obvious answer.

Andie runs Run On Studio: a full service creative agency doing everything from UGC content campaigns to event production. On paper, she was qualified. In practice, she was irreplaceable.

We worked on everything together. The venue: Matchali, which felt right from the moment we saw it online. The theme. The decor. The guest list. Every decision was a conversation with Andie first. She knew the community. She understood what the evening should feel like. She brought the same care to that room that she had brought to every conversation we’d ever had with her: considered, personal, never careless.

The event was everything we wanted it to be. That’s not a coincidence.

What we’ve come to understand is that the success of that evening wasn’t just about finding a good agency. It was about partnering with someone who had lived MYMIKA deeply enough to know instinctively what a MYMIKA moment should feel like. That’s not something you can brief. That’s something that only comes from a year of showing up.

Why we’re writing this

We think about how most brand and creator relationships work. A brief goes out. A post goes up. A fee gets paid. The relationship ends.

What we have with Andie is the other thing. The thing that starts because someone genuinely connects with what you’re building and stays because the connection keeps deepening. One conversation led to another. One feature led to a question that led to a better feature. One event led to a relationship the whole team feels.

We consider Andie part of the MYMIKA family. That’s not marketing language. It’s just true.
