What I did not expect, and what has pulled me back every summer since, is that London might be one of the greatest golf destinations on the planet. Not near the greatest. Not “pretty good for a city trip.” The greatest. And I say that as someone who had to be dragged kicking and screaming to believe it.

Here’s the thing nobody tells you: golf in the UK is accessible in a way that will ruin you for everywhere else. You can actually play the courses you’ve read about, dreamed about, watched on television from your couch in a robe at 6am. You just have to plan ahead. Book early, be organized, say a small prayer, and then find yourself standing on a tee box that belongs on a postcard, wondering how you got so lucky.

The rhythm of these trips has become something I look forward to all year. Mornings and evenings belong to London herself, wandering through neighborhoods that feel like film sets, ducking into a pub that’s been there since before your country existed, shopping streets that are simultaneously chic and completely chaotic, and finding a rooftop bar at golden hour with a Aperol Spritz that makes you feel like you’ve earned something. And then, on the days in between? You Uber or hop a train out of the city, and golf takes over completely.

It is, frankly, an absurdly good formula.

A few weeks ago, I found myself wandering through Milan. If there were ever a city that embodies fashion, craftsmanship, and luxury, it’s Milan. Naturally, I wanted to pop into a few of the iconic designer boutiques - namely, the Prada Galleria store - not necessarily because I was looking to buy anything, but because I genuinely enjoy beautiful things. I love thoughtful design. I love craftsmanship. I love seeing how brands tell a story.

What surprised me was the overwhelming feeling of... ick.

After waiting a short time to enter the Prada store, we were allowed in and assigned a salesperson. She asked me what I was interested in to which I replied “just browsing.” She proceeded to be glued to my side after that, which made browsing feel rather challenging and not very enjoyable. I couldn’t simply enjoy looking. It felt so transactional and not luxurious.

I walked out after about 5 minutes with zero desire to purchase anything in store, and on my walk back to the hotel I couldn’t stop thinking about why the experience had bothered me so much.

It made think about a bigger question: What does luxury even mean anymore?

For years, luxury was defined by exclusivity. It was about owning something few people had access to. But today, that’s become increasingly difficult with global access to everything. Every runway show is on Instagram before the models have even left the catwalk. Every new handbag is dissected on TikTok within hours of its release. Influencers receive products before they’re available to the public, and before long, your entire feed is filled with the exact same pieces styled in the exact same way (BORING!).

Nothing feels rare anymore because we’ve already seen it a hundred times before we ever see it in person.

I’ve also become increasingly perplexed by the sheer amount of money people are spending on luxury goods. A classic Chanel flap bag now starts around $11,000, and every season there’s another collection, another texture or color, another “must-have” piece that somehow convinces us our wardrobe is incomplete.

And then there’s the whole Hermès game.

No shade whatsoever if that’s your thing, but I’ve never been able to wrap my head around the idea of spending tens of thousands on other products simply for the opportunity to maybe be offered the chance to purchase a handbag that already costs well into five figures.

The older I get, the more untrue that feels to me.

Not because I think beautiful things are frivolous, they’re not. I deeply appreciate craftsmanship, creativity, heritage brands, and investing in pieces that will last for decades. But somewhere along the way, luxury started feeling less like an appreciation for exceptional design and more like participation in an silly club.

I’ve caught myself wondering, are we buying these things because we genuinely love them, or because we’ve been told they’re the ultimate symbol of success?

Maybe that’s the question I’ve been wrestling with.

Because if everyone is chasing the exact same bag, wearing the exact same logo, and posting the exact same unboxing video... where does personal style fit into all of this?

To me, the most stylish people have never been the ones wearing the most expensive things. They’re the ones whose wardrobes feel unmistakably their own. They mix old with new. Vintage with contemporary. Designer with something found on vacation twenty years ago. Their clothes tell a story, they don’t prove how much money they can spend.

When I need style inspiration, I rarely find myself drawn to the accounts posting the latest designer haul. Instead, I'm inspired by women with a distinct point of view. Lilly Sisto (@lillysisto), Kendall Swingler (@trendy.kendy), and Erica Barry (@ericabarryy) are three creators I come back to time and time again. What I love about all of them is that they'll effortlessly mix vintage finds, investment pieces, and affordable brands in a way that feels completely authentic to them. You get the sense that they genuinely love the art of fashion, not just buying clothes, but creating an outfit. They have an eye. They know who they are. And that, to me, is far more inspiring than another unboxing video because it reminds me that great style has very little to do with how much you spend and everything to do with how thoughtfully you put it together.

That’s also why my favorite way to shop has changed completely over the past few years.

These days, I’d much rather spend an evening browsing The RealReal or Vestiaire Collective than refreshing the “new arrivals” page on a generic website (and yes, I do love online shopping). I love vintage stores. Estate sales. Antique markets. Little boutiques tucked away on side streets. I just love the hunt.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about searching for months and finally finding exactly the right piece. A vintage golf sweater no one else has. A beautifully worn leather bag with a story already stitched into it. Last season’s designer piece that I can now afford only available in my size and majorly discounted…

Those pieces feel different.

Not because they’re more expensive, but because they feel discovered rather than consumed.

Ironically, I think that’s become the real luxury.

We live in a culture obsessed with immediacy. Next-day shipping. Instant answers. New drops every Thursday. More, more, more. Somewhere along the way, shopping became less about finding something you truly loved and more about proving you could get your hands on it before everyone else.

But the thrill was never checking out.

The thrill is discovering and creating.

I think this idea extends far beyond fashion.

Luxury isn’t just about what hangs in your closet. It’s about how you move through the world. It’s having the patience to search instead of settling. It’s developing opinions instead of borrowing them. It’s cultivating a home, a wardrobe, a golf swing, even a life, that reflects your taste instead of someone else’s algorithm.

Maybe that’s why luxury feels different to me today than it did even 5 years ago.

It isn’t owning what everyone else wants.

It’s having enough confidence to want something different.

It’s leaving the boutique empty-handed because nothing spoke to you.

It’s waiting six months for the perfect piece instead of buying the second-best one today.

It’s surrounding yourself with things that reflect your personality rather than your purchasing power.

And perhaps that’s the greatest paradox of luxury today…

When almost everyone has access to the same brands, the same trends, and the same inspiration, the rarest thing isn’t money.

It’s discernment.

The greatest luxury today isn’t access.

It’s an eye for amazing pieces.

It’s knowing yourself well enough to recognize what is truly beautiful to you, and having the patience to wait until you find it.

I was SO sure I would be a calm, organized person about packing for a month in Europe. I had a vision. Neat little piles. A list, even, neatly made by Claude herself. I pictured myself folding linen pants with the serenity of a woman who has her life completely together.

Instead, I spend yesterday surrounded by four suitcases’ worth of options spread across my guest room floor, trying to figure out how to fit golf in London, Wimbledon-just-in-case, a boat day in Split, a day trip to Dubrovnik, four cities in Italy, and the AIG Women’s Open into bags that are, structurally speaking, just bags.

I am shipping a carry-on suitcase to The Women’s British ahead of me so that I don’t have to drag it around Europe with me for no reason. I attempted the sudoku packing yesterday much to my chagrin. Unfortunately, that method is simply not for me.

One of the biggest things I’ve been working on this year has nothing to do with golf, content, or business strategy.

It’s learning how to focus on what actually matters.

This might sound obvious, but for someone like me it is surprisingly difficult.

My brain is constantly on fire with ideas. New concepts, new projects, new business ideas. It’s exciting, energizing, and honestly a big part of why I’ve been able to build the things I have.

The problem is that my instinct is always to chase the new, shiny, thing.

A new idea in the morning? I could have it up and running by 5 p.m.

Do I have a plan? Not really.
Did I think through how it fits into the bigger picture? Also no.
Did I market it well? Definitely not.

I just jump.

In some ways, that willingness to leap has been a strength. There is a certain magic in being the kind of person who actually tries things. So many people sit around analyzing every angle, waiting for the perfect moment, and never start at all.

I am the opposite of that.

If anything, I start too quickly.

The downside of constant ideas

The downside of always chasing new ideas is that you can end up leaving a trail of half-finished things behind you.

You jump from project to project. You spread your energy in too many directions. Your attention gets diluted.

Instead of building something great, you are building many things halfway.

And the mental load becomes enormous. Your brain never turns off because it is always thinking about the next thing you could create.

This is something my good friend (and agent) Taylor and I have talked about a lot this year.

She has been instrumental in helping me focus.

A very helpful reality check

We were discussing a potential brand partnership last week. I was brainstorming ideas out loud and casually suggested that I could do a full blown photoshoot for the company.

In my head, it made sense. Bigger idea, bigger production, bigger impact.

Taylor paused and said something that made me laugh immediately.

“Nathalie… what did we say? We are not putting any more crazy shit on our to-do list.”

She was absolutely right.

I am incredibly grateful for people in my life who help keep me grounded like that. Left to my own devices, I will happily pile ten ambitious projects on top of one another and convince myself it is a great idea until I have a full-blown mental breakdown.

The feeling of needing to prove yourself

If I am being honest, I think part of this tendency comes from still feeling like I need to prove my value.

When opportunities come up, my instinct is to overdeliver. To promise more. To make the idea bigger and more impressive.

Somewhere in the back of my mind, there is still a voice saying, make sure they know how capable you are.

But what I am learning is that constantly expanding the scope of everything is not actually the best way to do great work.

Focus is the real key to success.

The three things that matter right now

Recently, I have been trying to simplify my priorities. Instead of chasing every new idea that pops into my head, I am asking a very simple question.

Does this actually move the things that matter forward?

Right now, there are really only three areas I want to focus on.

1. Making time for my life outside of work

This is the hardest one for me.

Spending real time with my husband. Being present with my family. Taking time for myself without feeling like I should be doing something more productive.

I am still working on this.

In fact, I am writing this on my day off, which probably tells you everything you need to know.

2. Content Creation

This is something I am good at and something I genuinely enjoy. Teaching, sharing ideas, making golf feel more approachable. It is the core of what I do. It is way too easy for me to get lost in new ideas and stop creating content.

3. Building Aprés Golf

This project has the potential to become something really special, but it requires focused attention and thoughtful development. Not sporadic bursts of energy.

The discipline of saying no

The more I clarify what actually matters, the easier it becomes to say no to the things that don’t.

Not because they are bad ideas.

But because they are not the right ideas right now.

This is a muscle I am still strengthening.

Every new opportunity feels exciting. Every new idea feels promising. But saying yes to everything is just another way of delaying real success and growth.

The value of finishing

I am realizing that finishing things well is far more powerful than starting a hundred things quickly.

Finishing builds momentum. It builds trust. It builds something real.

New ideas will always be there. My brain is not going to stop generating them anytime soon. I am genuinely thinking of creating a new social media channel called the idea factory and posting all of my ideas on there (and there I go again with another ida…)

But the real work is in deciding which ones deserve my energy.

A question worth asking

If you are someone who also lives with a million ideas in your head, it might be worth asking yourself one question.

What are the two or three things that actually matter right now?

Not everything you could do.

Just the things that truly move your life forward and move you closer to whatever success looks like to you.

Focus there.

Everything else can wait.

Let’s clear something up right away:

Golf style isn’t about trends. It’s about looking appropriate, feeling confident, and wearing pieces that let you move freely, without feeling costume-y, dated, or uncomfortable.

For many women, uncertainty around what to wear is one of the biggest barriers to saying yes to golf. Not because we want to be fashionable for fashion’s sake, but because we want to feel like we belong.

This is my modern take on golf wardrobe essentials: classic, polished, comfortable, and easy to build on. These are the pieces that work across most clubs, most invitations, and most stages of your golf journey.

Below are my favorite items in each category - many of which I own and love. Click on the title of any item to be directed to it’s website.

I adore the look of a collared shirt for both on and off the golf course.

From left to right:

1. Peter Millar Sun Shirt. These are paper thin, incredibly durable and soft, all while providing sun protection. The mock collar is perfect for neck protection as well. I own this in multiple colors.

2. Renwick 3/4 sleeve pima cotton polo. These polos are SO soft and the fit is beyond flattering.

3. Foray sweater polo with navy accent. A fun twist on the classic polo - a sweater texture that is soft and comfortable. This is a piece you can absolutely wear with jeans off the course as well.

4. A. Putnam Button Up. This isn’t just any button down shirt, it is made out of the most comfortable athletic material. I have filmed for Golf Channel in this shirt for a full day and it is stretchy and made to move with you and your swing.

5. Tuckernuck Puff Sleeve Polo. This is another perfect piece for on or off the course and the little sleeve detail is adorable.

6. Renwick Ric Rac Polo. I love the ric rac detailing on this polo PLUS it has a skirt to match.

7. Renwick 3/4 sleeve pima cotton polo. These polos are SO soft and the fit is beyond flattering.

8. Rhone Short Sleeve Sweater. A fun option for when it isn’t too hot out. This is versatile for off the course as well.

Skirts can be fun, classic, functional, and feminine, all at once. These ALL have built in shorts and are of appropriate length.

1. A. Putnam Skirt. I wear this on repeat. Such a great basic made unique with the front pocket detailing.

2. Lululemon Pleated Skirt With Belt Loops. I love that you can add a belt to this one. The pleats also don’t fly up which is nice.

3. Renwick Ric Rac Skirt Pink. A great pop of color in a flattering design.

4. Renwick Pleated Back Skirt. I own this in pink and it is so comfortable, flattering AND has a lot of pockets which is hard to find in golf skirts.

5. A. Putnam C’est Tout Skirt. A classic silhouette with belt loops. This is so beautiful on I just love everything A. Putnam is doing right now. Wait until you see their S/S26 line…

6. Malbon Kate Skirt. I own this skirt in 3 colors and it is a crowd favorite. Flattering, flowy, and comes in some amazing colors.

7. Renwick Ric Rac Skirt White and Blue. An easy staple with the light blue ric-rac detailing. Pair with the matching top for an easy outfit.

8. Tuckernuck Calypso Reef Skirt. I just got this skirt and cannot wait for it to warm up so that I can wear it. The shell detailing is so cute.

Pants can be tricky but these are my tried and true favorites.

1. Tuckernuck 28 Inch Compression September Pant. I LOVE these pants. They are a thicker material, very flattering and go with everything. Polished but comfy.

2. Lululemon Trouser. WARNING: The boys don’t like these pants since they are wider leg. I get made fun of at work by the guys I work with every time I wear them. BUT I think they are fabulous. They are the buttery soft Lulu Material in a trouser. You can add a belt for an elevated look.

3. Belyn Key Gingham Pant. These are light weight, stretchy and flattering on.

4. Peter Millar Karlie Kick Flare. I wear the Karlie pants like it’s my job. This is the new kick flare style which I am excited to try - the old style Karlie was skinny fit. They are almost like a regular 5-pocket jean fit. Stretchy and soft. Perfect for on or off the course.

My collection of golf sweaters is never-ending at this point.

1. RLX Golf Bear Sweater. I have been wanting to add a Bear sweater to my collection for a while now and this one might just make the cut.

2. Renwick GOLF Heart Sweater. I probably own 10 Renwick GOLF sweaters. They are classic cotton, easy to wash, look cute with everything.

3. Renwick Golf Script Sweater. This is a new take on the GOLF sweater in script and it is adorable. Perfect for The Masters.

4. Tuckernuck Cashmere Crewneck. This comes in so many amazing colors but this green really speaks to me. A beautiful color for spring and summer.

5. Ellsworth and Ivey Golf Sweatshirt. This has the GOLF in a textured fabric that pops out and is so cute. Fun for workouts or the course.

6. A. Putnam Mac Knit Crew. This is a heavier knit that moves with you. The fit is so flattering and the color goes with everything.

I love a good golf dress!

1. Tuckernuck Calypso Reef Dress. This print is just too good. I love the contrasting collar and the tie waist to cinch you in.

2. Smith & Quinn Ivy Dress. This is an all-time favorite style of mine. I own it in 4 colors. It is a romper underneath with a skirt that wraps and ties across. So flattering and the fabric is amazing. Pockets in the shorts underneath.

3. Rhone Crew Neck Dress. Rhone has incredible fabric and this color is so pretty. I like the crewneck versus a collar for something a little different.

4. Tuckernuck Gingham May Golf Dress. How cute is this for Masters season?! It is flattering on everyone. The fabric is almost like a crinkly texture and very light weight.

5. Lacoste Golf Dress. This is a perfect classic golf dress you can have forever.

6. Renwick Golf Dress. If you can’t tell, I have a thing for green. The zipper on this dress is a contrasting light pink. Perfect for spring time and The Masters!

3. Lambda Pink Croc Golf Shoe. These will be my next purchase. Again, steep price, but I think they are so beautiful and classic.

For many women, golf can feel rigid, intimidating, or rooted in traditions that weren’t exactly built with us in mind. And layered on top of that is something very real: as women, we want to feel like we are competent before we say yes.

Here’s the good news: you do NOT need to be an incredible golfer to confidently accept a golf invitation.

You simply need to understand basic etiquette, keep up with pace of play, and be a joy to play with.

That’s it.

Because truly, no one wants to play with a slow golfer, an angry golfer, or someone so stressed about doing everything “right” that they forget to enjoy the round.

Golf is one of the greatest networking tools available to us. It’s a chance to make new friends, spend meaningful time with clients or coworkers, and build real relationships in a relaxed, shared experience.

This little guide isn’t about perfection. It’s about confidence.

Consider this your modern, real-world guide to golf course etiquette. The kind of guide that helps you feel comfortable, capable, and fully at home on the course.

1. Pace of Play Is

Nothing matters more than pace of play. Not your outfit. Not your score. Not how far you hit it.

Modern etiquette translation:

• Play ready golf. You don’t need to wait for someone else to hit just because it’s “their turn.”

• Take one practice swing (or none). Your swing doesn’t get better after the fourth rehearsal.

• If you’re struggling on a hole, pick up and move on. This will help your mental health and those around you. It is not quitting.

• Keep an eye on the group behind you. If there’s open space ahead and they’re waiting, it’s time to speed it up or let them play through.

Being efficient is far more impressive than grinding out a triple bogey.

2. The Flagstick, the Green & Where to Stand

The green is sacred ground.

What actually matters:

• Never step in someone’s line (that invisible line between their ball and the hole) when you’re on the green.

• Place bags and push carts off the putting surface.

• If you’re unsure about whether to pull the flagstick, ask your playing partners, don’t guess. Some players want it in, some want it out.

• When you finish a hole, move off the green quickly and do your scoring at the next tee.

• Don’t stand in someones line or peripheral vision when they are hitting or putting.

3. Phones: The New Etiquette Frontier

Yes, you can bring your phone. No, you shouldn’t be on it the whole time.

Modern rules:

• Silent mode always.

• I would avoid talking on the phone unless it is an emergency.

• Quick photos are fine, full photoshoots while the group behind you waits are not.

• If you’re filming content, communicate with your group and be mindful of pace.

• Try to be where your feet are, engage with the people you are with.

Golf is allowed to coexist with real life, just don’t let it interrupt others.

4. Dress Codes (Without the Anxiety)

Most dress codes are far simpler than they seem.

General guidelines:

PRIVATE COURSE:

• Collars are required if your shirt is sleeveless, otherwise you do not necessarily need a collared shirt.

• I would avoid racer back/tennis-like tops and dresses.

• Skirts, skorts, or shorts of appropriate length

• Denim is a no-no.

• Try to change into your shoes in the locker room, not the parking lot.

• Be very cautious about cell phone use at private clubs.

PUBLIC COURSE:

• There aren’t usually strict dress codes at public courses.

• I still like to feel like a golfer so I tend to still wear a golf skirt and a sun-shirt but I might look a bit more casual at a public course.

When in doubt, check the club’s website, or ask. Etiquette includes being proactive, not silently panicking in the parking lot. If you are invited as a guest to a private club, you can absolutely ask the member to send you the club rules ahead of time.

And yes, looking put‑together is part of the culture. Feeling good in what you’re wearing often translates directly to confidence in how you play.

5. Care for the Course (You Don’t Need to Be Perfect)

You’re not expected to know everything, but effort matters.

• Replace or fill divots when you can.

• Fix your ball mark on the green (and maybe one extra, it’s good karma).

• Rake bunkers after use.

Small acts of care show respect for the game and everyone playing after you.

6. Playing With Men, Members, or Strangers

This is where many women feel the most pressure, and where etiquette is often misunderstood.

Remember:

• You belong on the course just as much as anyone else.

• You do not need to apologize for learning.

• Asking questions is polite, not embarrassing.

• Play from whichever tees you feel confident from.

• If playing with men, walk back to their tees with them so you can be social.

Good etiquette doesn’t mean shrinking yourself. It’s showing up prepared, aware, and respectful.

7. When You’re New (or Getting Back Into Golf)

Here’s the secret no one tells you: everyone was new once.

Proper etiquette as a beginner looks like:

• Keeping pace

• Being open to guidance

• Not taking yourself too seriously

No one expects perfection. They expect consideration.

Etiquette Is Not About Strict Rules, It’s About Respect For Others and The Game

At its core, golf etiquette is simple: Be aware. Be respectful. Be confident enough to keep moving.

You don’t need to memorize a rulebook to belong out here. You just need to show up with curiosity, grace, and a willingness to learn.

Golf doesn’t need to feel intimidating.

It can feel empowering.

For years, I have watched women in corporate environments opt out of golf for the same reason.

They do not think they are good enough.

They did not grow up playing. They feel behind. They assume they will be a liability or an inconvenience. So instead of learning, they remove themselves entirely.

Meanwhile, important conversations are happening. Relationships are being built. Trust is forming. Hours of uninterrupted time are being spent together on the golf course without them.

Golf is not about being the amazing, but about access.

Most people who play golf are NOT good at it. That includes executives, CEOs, clients, and colleagues. Golf is a difficult game, and a low handicap is not an entry requirement.

There is a reason golf has remained embedded in business culture for decades. Roughly 80 percent of Fortune 500 CEOs play golf. That is not because they all love the game. It is because the game works.

Golf creates access to people and conversations that are difficult to replicate anywhere else. It offers four or more hours with clients or coworkers without phones, emails, or meetings interrupting the flow. People talk differently when they are walking side by side for hours. They relax. They open up. They listen more carefully.

A Wall Street Journal study found that business professionals are three times more likely to have a positive impression of someone they played golf with compared to someone they met in a traditional business setting. That matters. Business still runs on relationships, a tale as old as time.

Golf is an opportunity magnet because people do business with those they know, like, and trust. The golf course accelerates that process naturally.

One of the biggest misconceptions I see among women is the belief that they need to reach a certain skill level before they are allowed to participate. That simply is not true.

You do not need a perfect swing. You do not need to shoot a certain score. You do not need to apologize for your game.

You need to understand basic etiquette, keep pace, know when to pick up, and be willing to learn. That is enough.

Confidence on the golf course comes from showing up, not from mastery.

There is also a broader reason golf matters for women, especially in leadership. A study by EY and ESPNW found that 94 percent of women in C-suite roles played sports. Sports teach resilience, emotional regulation, decision-making under pressure, communication, and self-trust. Golf adds another layer: patience, accountability, and the ability to stay composed when things are not going your way.

Those are not athletic skills. They are leadership skills.

Golf also levels the playing field in a way few professional environments do. On the course, hierarchy softens. Titles matter less. Everyone is navigating the same challenge as they play the same course. That creates shared ground, which is powerful for women who may otherwise feel like outsiders in certain rooms.

What I see often is women waiting. Waiting to be invited. Waiting to feel ready. Waiting to be “good enough”.

The women who benefit most from golf are not the best players. They are the ones who decided to learn enough to participate.

That decision alone opens doors.

For young girls and women, the implications are even greater. Sports are not just about competition. They are training grounds for leadership. They teach girls how to take up space, how to fail publicly and recover, how to trust themselves, and how to compete without apology. Golf, in particular, teaches independence and accountability. You make your own decisions, and you own the outcome.

Those lessons last far beyond the course.

If you are a woman in the corporate world and golf feels intimidating, the starting point does not need to be dramatic. Learn basic etiquette. Get comfortable with a few reliable shots. Understand pace of play. Say yes when opportunities come up.

Golf is not a test you need to pass. It is a room you need to be in.

And the women who choose to step onto the course, even imperfectly, often discover that the real value has very little to do with the scorecard. It has everything to do with confidence, connection, and being present where decisions are actually made.

How Companies Can Help Close the Gap

If golf truly is a career accelerator, then companies have an opportunity and a responsibility to help women (and men) access it.

One of the biggest barriers I see is not interest, but logistics. Time constraints. Limited access to courses. The challenge of fitting lessons or practice into already full schedules. For many women, especially early or mid-career, golf feels like something they would love to try but realistically cannot prioritize outside of work hours.

This is where companies can make a meaningful difference.

Offering golf programs, lessons, or introductory clinics for women during working hours removes the biggest friction point. It signals that relationship-building, leadership development, and skill acquisition are valued parts of the job, not extracurricular activities reserved for those with extra time or access.

These programs do more than teach golf. They:

• create confidence in informal business settings

• give women shared experiences with colleagues

• build internal networks across departments and seniority levels

• prepare women to say yes when client or corporate golf opportunities arise

Most importantly, they level the playing field.

When companies invest in this kind of access, they are not just offering a perk. They are expanding who gets to participate in the spaces where relationships and opportunities are formed.

And that investment pays dividends far beyond the golf course.

Every January, I feel it.

The pressure to declare something huge.
Life-changing.
All-consuming.

New year, new identity.

And every year, I watch the same thing happen to people I care about. They set these massive, lofty goals for their lives or businesses, feel fired up for a few weeks, and then quietly burn out when progress is slower or messier than expected.

A big goal without a roadmap is a recipe for disaster.

The problem with lofty goals

There is nothing wrong with ambition. I love ambition.

But ambition without structure often turns into self-criticism.

When goals are too big, too vague, or too public, we start measuring ourselves against an imaginary timeline. When we inevitably fall short, instead of adjusting and re-routing, we doubt ourselves and sometimes even quit.

This can be an exhausting cycle, so this year we are changing it up!

What I am doing differently in 2026

This year, I do have big goals.

They are specific.
They are measurable.
They are tied to my business.

And I am intentionally keeping most of them to myself.

Not because I am afraid of accountability, but because some things grow better without an audience. Quiet focus helps me execute. Public pressure often does not.

Where I am choosing to be very intentional and very open is my personal life.

Instead of chasing transformation, I am choosing sustainability.

Being where my feet are

This is my biggest goal.

To be present with what I am doing and who I am with instead of mentally racing to what is next, what else needs to be done, or what I am behind on.

Presence is a skill.
And it takes practice.

It looks like finishing a conversation without checking my phone, enjoying a moment without narrating it in my head, and like letting one thing at a time be enough.

Phone down, face up

I am done pretending my screen time does not affect me.

It is too easy to be consumed by these stupid little rectangles and mistake scrolling for rest.

So here is the rule:

Every night at 8pm, my phone gets plugged in on the kitchen counter. That is it for the evening.

If you need me after that, hopefully it is not urgent.

This one change alone already feels like a calming hug.

Move my body every day, no pressure attached

I am not chasing a perfect workout routine anymore.

I am committing to movement.

Thirty minutes minimum every day.

Some days that will be a workout.
Some days it will be a walk.
Some days it will be tennis, pickleball, or something unplanned.

My brain works better when I move. My anxiety quiets down. I feel more like myself.

This is achievable, even during travel and busy seasons. And let’s be honest, busy seasons are fairly constant these days.

Read more, learn more

I did not read enough this past year.

I read about ten books, and six of them were fantasy, which I loved, but it was not exactly helping me grow.

This year, the goal is simple: Two books per month

Some for learning.
Some for enjoyment.
Some just because I am curious.

Reading slows me down in the best way. It gives my brain depth instead of noise.

More golf, less avoidance

This one made me laugh when I wrote it down.

We have been very pickleball obsessed lately. Meanwhile, my motivation to work on my own golf game comes and goes.

So we are reigniting the flame.

My golf goals are intentionally small:

• Hit at least 50 balls on days I am at the course

• Work on speed

• Play at least twice per month

Nothing heroic. Nothing dramatic. Just overwhelming consistency.

I know from experience that momentum follows action, not the other way around.

Why this approach works better

These goals are not flashy.

They are not going to make a dramatic Instagram caption.

But they are achievable.
They are repeatable.
They are forgiving on hard days.

Most importantly, they are sustainable.

And sustainability is what actually creates long-term change.

A quieter way to start the year

If you are feeling overwhelmed by what you think you should be doing in the new year, here is my encouragement.

You do not need a complete life overhaul.
You do not need a dramatic reinvention.
You do not need to announce everything publicly.

You need a few small commitments you can keep, even when life gets busy.

Those add up to success faster than you think.

And they do not burn you out along the way.

When I was 23 years old, I interviewed for my first private club teaching job at a very busy, private club in Philadelphia.

I had very little formal teaching experience at the time.
My background was mostly as a player.
And I was sitting at a table with four men who had been teaching at the club for years.

They were kind, professional, and experienced. But I was acutely aware of the contrast. I was young, new, and, on paper, not the obvious choice.

We sat around a conference table, and they took turns asking questions about my playing background, my goals, and how I saw myself fitting into such a large operation. Then one of them paused, glanced at my résumé, and asked:

“I see you studied art history. What does that have to do with golf?”

It was not an unkind question, but it was direct. And with an enormous opportunity in front of me, I had to answer discerningly…

I told them that art history was something I genuinely loved.

That studying art taught me how to sit with something longer than felt comfortable. To observe carefully. To notice details, patterns, and relationships that are easy to miss at first glance.

I explained that when you study a piece of art, you do not just look at the painting itself. You study the context. The time period. The artist. Their influences. Their intentions.

Only then do you begin to understand what you are actually looking at.

I said that teaching golf is remarkably similar.

You cannot look at a golf swing in isolation.

You have to understand:

• the student’s history with the game

• how they think and learn

• their physical capabilities and limitations

• their past instruction and experiences

• their goals, fears, and expectations

And layered on top of that, you need a framework for understanding what actually makes the golf swing and the golf ball do what they do.

Only when you understand and observe all of the above can you teach effectively.

When I finished answering, I remember thinking quietly to myself, That might be one of the smartest things I have ever said.

How I ended up there in the first place

What I did not share in that interview was my path to choosing art history.

I switched majors more than once.

I started in fashion merchandising because I was convinced I was going to work in fashion in New York City after college. Until I realized I had to take multiple chemistry classes to learn how to dye fabric… I also would have HATED working in fashion in New York. I then I switched to English. And finally, I found my way to art history.

One of my college teammates, Amanda, and I took an art history class as an elective at the beginning of my sophomore year. It was one class. One requirement. Nothing strategic about it.

And we both fell in love.

Amanda switched from kinesiology. I switched again, this time for good. We decided to focus on what we actually enjoyed studying, not what we thought we were supposed to do.

It changed everything.

Studying something we loved made traveling for golf and missing class so much easier. We wanted to catch up. We wanted to read. We wanted to engage with the material. It didn’t feel like such a burden anymore.

Falling in love with Dutch art

I ended up focusing primarily on Dutch art, largely because of one professor who specialized in Northern Baroque art. Her passion was contagious.

Dutch paintings taught me how much could be happening in a seemingly quiet scene.

The symbolism.
The composition.
The light.
The small details that carried enormous meaning.

You had to slow down to see it. You had to look longer. And the more time you spent with the work, the more it revealed.

I did not know it then, but I was training my eye.

At the time, I thought I was simply choosing a major that fit my schedule and interests.

What I did not realize was that I was learning skills that would shape how I coach.

Art history did not make me less technical.
It made me observant.

It trained me to resist snap judgments.
To look for meaning beneath surface-level appearances.
To ask better questions before offering answers.

Those skills turned out to be essential in teaching golf.

Rembrandt’s The Jewish Bride

One of the works that shaped me most during that time was Rembrandt’s The Jewish Bride. I loved it so much that I ultimately wrote my thesis on this painting.

At first glance, it appears a simple man and a woman standing close together, connected by a single, deliberate gesture. But the longer you sit with it, the more layered it becomes.

There has long been debate about the identity of the figures. Some scholars believe the painting depicts a biblical scene, while others argue it is simply an intimate portrait of a couple, intentionally left ambiguous by Rembrandt.

I found myself most convinced by the theory that the figures represent Isaac and Rebekah, drawn from the Old Testament. Not as a literal narrative illustration, but as an emotional one. Rembrandt was less interested in telling the story directly and more interested in capturing the essence of a relationship rooted in trust, covenant, and quiet devotion.

What fascinated me was how Rembrandt communicated that depth without relying on symbolism that needed explanation. The meaning lives in the physicality.

The man’s hand resting on the woman’s chest is painted with extraordinary sensitivity. It conveys protection, affection, and reverence all at once. The woman’s posture is receptive but grounded, suggesting mutual respect rather than passivity.

Stylistically, the painting is quintessential late Rembrandt. The brushwork is thick, almost sculptural, particularly in the woman’s dress. The surface of the canvas carries weight. Paint is layered generously, allowing texture to become part of the meaning. Light is used not for drama, but for intimacy, drawing the viewer into the emotional center of the composition.

And perhaps most importantly, there is no single answer that resolves the painting entirely. Rembrandt leaves room for interpretation, asking the viewer to participate rather than consume.

You cannot rush this type of work. The more time you give it, the more you can wonder and learn.

Why This Still Matters to Me as a Coach

Writing about this painting taught me something I did not fully appreciate at the time. It trained me to be comfortable with complexity and uncertainty. With supposing theories on my own that we don’t have concrete answers to.

Not everything needs a definitive label.
Not everything reveals itself immediately.
Not everything improves when rushed toward resolution.

That lesson has stayed with me.

In golf, just like in art, the most important information is often subtle. A movement pattern, a reaction, a hesitation, or a habit may hold layers of meaning that only become visible when you slow down enough to notice.

This is something I try to carry into every lesson. The goal is not to rush to an answer. It is to understand what is actually there, beneath the surface, before deciding what comes next.

Observation before instruction

One of the biggest mistakes coaches make is trying to fix things too quickly.

Art history taught me to look first.

To ask:
What is actually happening here?
Why might it be happening?
What story does this tell?

Just like a painting, a golf swing exists within a larger context. You cannot understand it without understanding what came before it.

Sometimes what looks like a technical flaw (in golf) is actually a response to fear, injury, misunderstanding, or previous instruction. Sometimes the swing makes perfect sense once you understand the person swinging the club.

That perspective has saved me more times than I can count.

Context matters more than correctness

Art history is not about memorizing facts. It is about interpretation.

There is rarely a single correct answer. There is nuance, perspective, and understanding.

Teaching golf is the same.

Two players can need entirely different solutions for the same ball flight. What works beautifully for one person can be disastrous for another.

There is no universal fix. Only the one that fits the person in front of you.

Communication is the bridge

Art history also gave me a love of writing, speaking, and explaining ideas clearly.

You are not just learning art. You are learning how to describe, how to translate visual information into language that helps others see what you see.

That skill is essential in coaching.

Knowledge without strong communication causes more harm than good.

The long game

Amanda now owns a successful interior design business. To this day, we still talk about art, design, space, and aesthetics. What started as an elective class became a shared language we carry with us into entirely different careers.

And thank GOD for that.

Unconventional paths and rash decisions, like switching your major to art history, might just lead you to your purpose in life.

Closing thought

I did not know it at the time, but sitting at that table at 23, explaining why art history belonged in golf , was the beginning of trusting my own weird way of seeing the world.

Sometimes the thing that makes you feel out of place is the thing that gives you depth.

And sometimes the best teachers are not the ones who followed the straightest path, but the ones who learned how to truly observe, understand, and connect along the way.

That is what art history taught me.
And it is what I try to bring into every lesson.

I have been thinking a lot lately about why rest feels so uncomfortable to me.

Not rest in theory. I love the idea of it.
But actual rest. The kind where nothing productive is happening and no boxes are being checked.

I am starting to wonder if this is just the Division I athlete in me. Years of conditioning that taught me if I was not training, competing, improving, or moving toward something, I was falling behind.

That wiring does not disappear just because you stop competing.

The moment it all caught up to me

The last few weeks have been a perfect example.

I went straight from three days at a teaching summit, into a full day of lessons and clinics, into picking up the dog, into heading to a Lightning game that night. Somewhere between traffic and warm-ups, I opened my calendar.

Then someone asked me to share potential filming dates for early 2026.

I scrolled.

January through March had almost no uncommitted time.

And I felt my chest tighten.

I love what I get to do. I really do. But seeing how little white space was left made me anxious in a way I could not ignore.

The cycle I keep repeating

This fall has been relentless.

A summer full of travel rolled straight into selling our house and moving. That flowed directly into LPGA week, which flowed into the start of golf season at the club. There was no real pause. Just momentum carrying me forward.

There is always more to do.

Another project.
Another idea.
Another opportunity.
Another thing that feels exciting and exhausting at the same time.

And the truth is, I am very good at pushing through.

Too good.

The productivity trap

I think one of my greatest strengths is also one of my biggest challenges.

I am capable. I am driven. I like building things. I like saying yes. I like feeling useful.

But somewhere along the way, productivity became tied to worth.

Rest started to feel indulgent.
Unscheduled time felt inefficient.
Stillness felt uncomfortable.

So I rest only when my body forces me to. When I crash. When I am exhausted or sick enough that stopping is no longer optional.

Which, objectively, is not the goal.

Delegation and the mental load

On top of all of this is the constant low-grade hum of planning.

Thinking about 2026 projects.
Imagining what could be built.
Trying to figure out how to scale without burning out.
Wondering how to delegate without losing control or quality.

If anyone has cracked the code on this, please let me know.

Delegation sounds great in theory. In practice, it requires trust, clarity, systems, and letting go of the belief that doing everything yourself is a badge of honor.

I am still learning.

What I am trying to do differently

I do not have this figured out, but here are a few things I am actively working on. Consider this advice I am giving myself as much as anyone else.

Schedule rest the same way you schedule work.
If it is not on the calendar, it does not happen.

Stop calling exhaustion “just part of the job.”
Loving your work does not mean you are meant to run yourself into the ground.

Protect white space like it matters.
Because it does.

Practice stopping before the crash.
Rest is supposed to be preventative, not reactive.

Remember that capacity is not infinite.
Even when the work is meaningful.

Is this you?

If you ever wonder whether you are doing too much, try this test.

If your calendar gives you anxiety when you look at it, that is information.
If rest feels “unproductive,” that is conditioning.
If your idea of relaxing is answering emails from the couch, that might not count.

Just…speaking from experience.

Closing thought

I love my life. I love my work. I am grateful for the opportunities I get.

But I am learning that loving what you do does not mean you are required to be available all the time.

Rest is not laziness.
Uncommitted time is not wasted time.
And slowing down does not mean you are falling behind.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is stop long enough to breathe before your body makes the decision for you.

And I am trying, slowly, imperfectly, to learn that lesson before the crash.

Every time I attend a teaching event of some kind, I leave feeling two things at once.

Incredibly inspired.
And very aware of how much I still have to learn.

I just finished a few days at the Golf Magazine Top 100 Teachers Summit. There’s something grounding about being in a room full of people who are not trying to prove anything. Coaches who have worked at the highest levels, taught thousands of students, shaped junior pipelines, guided tour players, and yet still show up with notebooks open, listening closely.

It reminds me of something Adam Schriber (JJ Spaun’s Coach) said earlier:

“We live in fantasy land. We literally get to teach golf for a living.” It’s easy to forget that when lessons feel hard, schedules are full, or things don’t go perfectly. But being in rooms like this brings you back to gratitude and curiosity.

This summit did exactly that.

Kevin Kirk: Asking Better Questions About Development

One of the sessions that stayed with me most was Kevin Kirk’s discussion around junior elite development and the transition into college golf.

What I appreciated most was not just what he shared, but how he framed it.

He asked thoughtful, sometimes uncomfortable questions about how we structure development systems. About whether our pipelines are actually serving young players long term. About how the transition from junior level to college is often a disaster for players.

It was a reminder that as coaches, we are not just building swings.
We are shaping environments.

And that responsibility requires us to step back occasionally and ask if what we are doing truly aligns with the outcomes we say we want.

Joe Plecker: Feeling the Ground, Not Just Talking About It

Joe Plecker’s presentation stood out for its practicality.

He spoke about drills that help players feel different ground reaction forces through movement, not just understand them intellectually. This matters because most players do not learn through data.

They learn through sensation and movement.

Joe did a great job bridging the gap between biomechanics and coaching reality. Between what is happening and how we help someone actually experience it.

It reinforced something I believe strongly.
If a player cannot feel it, they cannot own it.

Parker McLachlin: Short Game Clarity for Amateurs

Parker McLachlin, better known as @shortgamechef, delivered one of the most useful presentations of the summit, especially for amateur golfers.

What stood out was how clearly he understands the needs of both tour-level and non-elite players. His approach was practical, simple, and incredibly applicable. No unnecessary complexity. No ego.

Just clarity.

It was a reminder that great coaching is often about removing confusion, not adding information.

Adam Schriber: Humility at the Highest Level

Adam Schriber’s session may have been the one that fascinated me most.

Listening to him talk about his time with Anthony Kim, his work now with J.J. Spaun (2025 U.S. Open Winner), and other tour players was striking not because of flashy techniques, but because of his humility and perspective.

What became clear very quickly is that his knowledge runs deep. His understanding of data, biomechanics, and high-level movement is extensive. You can hear it in the way he speaks, the questions he asks, and the decisions he makes with players.

But he never feels the need to announce it.

There is no boasting. No information dumping. No sense that he is trying to prove how much he knows.

Instead, he focuses on feel. On clarity. On what the player in front of him actually needs in that moment.

The way he speaks.
The way he listens.
The way he frames ideas in language that players can immediately connect to.

He has a rare ability to translate complex concepts into simple, usable sensations. And he shares his experiences without ego, without claiming answers, without needing to impress.

That kind of quiet confidence is powerful and, frankly, rare.

Daniel Gray: A Necessary Wake-Up Call

Daniel Gray’s presentation was sobering and important.

He discussed the rise in injuries among junior golfers, particularly back injuries, often tied to aggressive speed training while bodies are still growing.

It was a reminder that just because something can be trained does not always mean it should be pushed aggressively, especially at young ages.

As coaches, we have to think long-term.
We have to protect players from trends that may compromise their health.
We have to remember that development is not a race.

Mike Malizia: Coaching the Human First

One of my favorite sessions came at the end, from Mike Malizia.

He shared his journey from tour player to coach, and what stood out most was how intentional he has been about developing himself as a communicator.

Using Toastmasters to improve public speaking.
Learning personality profiling to better understand how different players receive information. How he adjusts his approach based on who is standing in front of him.

This is the part of coaching that often gets overlooked when everyone is busy nerding out over data.

Ultimately, we are not teaching swings.
We are coaching people.

And great coaching requires adaptability, empathy, and awareness. You can have all the knowledge in the world, but if you cannot meet the person in front of you where they are, it does not matter.

What I Took Home

If I had to summarize the biggest takeaway from this summit, it would be this:

There is so much more that goes into coaching golf than just teaching the game.

It is:

• asking better questions

• understanding context

• protecting long-term health

• communicating clearly

• creating feel

• respecting individuality

• staying endlessly curious

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I still don’t know. And instead of feeling intimidating, that feels like a gift.

Because it means there is always room to grow.
Always room to listen.
Always room to be better for the people who trust us with their games.

And honestly?

What a privilege that is.

Lately, I have been noticing something everywhere I look.

So many people are dressed the same…

The same silhouettes.
The same “must-have” items.
The same bags, shoes, jackets, and colors rotating through social media and storefronts.

None of it is necessarily bad. Much of it is well-made, expensive, and aspirational.

But it has started to feel unoriginal.

And it has made me think more intentionally about personal style, not as something driven by trends or visibility, but as something cultivated slowly, thoughtfully, and with discernment.

When trends take over

Trends used to feel like inspiration.
Now they often feel like instruction.

Buy this.
Wear that.
If you do not have it yet, you are late or uncool.

When trends move at the speed they do now, it becomes easy to outsource your taste without realizing it. Your closet fills up, but your sense of personal style does not.

Personal style gets replaced by a uniform.

And the more people chase what is current, the more interchangeable everyone starts to look.

Loving designer pieces without letting logos lead

I want to be clear. I love a beautiful designer item.

I appreciate thoughtful design, impeccable tailoring, and quality materials. A well-made piece can elevate everything else you wear and last for years.

But I have noticed a shift in how I approach designer fashion.

I am far less interested in announcing what I am wearing. Leading with a logo no longer feels like the right thing to do.

When the most noticeable thing about an outfit is the brand name, it often overshadows the person wearing it. To me, personal style should feel like an extension of who you are, not a billboard.

The designer pieces I reach for most now are the quiet ones.
A perfectly cut blazer.
An impeccable leather bag without obvious branding.
Shoes that feel timeless rather than tied to a specific moment or trend.

They integrate instead of dominate.

There is a confidence in that restraint. Taste speaks more clearly when it does not need to introduce itself.

Why I love secondhand and the hunt for the unique

One of the reasons I love shopping secondhand, especially places like The RealReal and Vestiare Collective, is because it slows the process down.

You are not chasing a drop.
You are not responding to urgency.
You are hunting - not dissimilar to antiquing.

You find pieces with history, craftsmanship, and individuality. Items that were not designed to go viral. Pieces that feel personal instead of performative.

It brings style back to what it should be. An act of curation, not accumulation.

Personal style is not built in a weekend

We have lost the idea that style is something you develop over time.

Not something you buy all at once.

Personal style comes from paying attention to yourself.
What you reach for repeatedly.
What makes you feel confident without effort.
What fits your actual life, not an imagined one.

It evolves slowly.

Once you understand that, the pressure to keep up disappears, and it is freeing to say the least.

A few principles that helped me

If you are trying to find your style or return to it, these are the ideas I come back to again and again:

Start with strong basics.
A black blazer, great jeans, black pants, a white shirt, quality knits. These pieces create flexibility and longevity.

Buy what you love, not what is popular.

There are seasons in life when everything feels like it’s moving: careers, ideas, opportunities, people around you, and somehow, at the same time, a part of your heart feels like it’s standing completely still.

It’s the strange tension of waiting.

Waiting for clarity.
Waiting for a breakthrough.
Waiting for timing to align.
Waiting for a prayer to be answered.
Waiting for something you’ve longed for quietly, and for so long, it now feels woven into the background of your life.

Most people don’t talk about these seasons.
They’re uncomfortable.
Tender.
Private.

But they’re also universal.

Everyone, at some point, lives in the space between where they are and where they hope to be.

The Unspoken Weight of Waiting

There’s a particular heaviness waiting carries.
Not dramatic. Not loud.
More like a gentle ache that follows you around during ordinary moments like grocery shopping, morning coffee, driving to work.

It’s the ache of:

“Why not yet?”
“What am I missing?”
“Is something wrong with me?”

But the hardest question of all is often:

“Is God listening?”

This year, I’ve learned that faith isn’t proven in seasons of abundance,
but in seasons of delay.

And the delay itself is not a sign of abandonment, sometimes it’s evidence of protection, preparation, or transformation.

Scripture says:

“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
— Psalm 27:13-14

Not wait perfectly.
Not wait joyfully.
Just… wait.

The Lessons Hidden in the In-Between

Waiting has a way of revealing things you wouldn’t have chosen to look at on your own.

For me, it’s shown:

• The parts of life I still try to control

• The moments I compare timelines

• The urge to rush what isn’t ready

• The quiet fear of disappointment

• The lack of gentleness I sometimes show myself

It’s also revealed how much of life happens while we’re waiting.

Love still grows.
Friendships deepen.
Purpose expands.
You become more resilient.
More empathetic.
More aware of miracles you used to overlook.

God does some of His most transformative work in the chapters we would never voluntarily choose.

Letting Go of the Timeline You Thought You’d Have

One of the humbling parts of waiting is releasing the life you imagined for yourself by a certain age, a certain date, a certain season.

It’s rarely the big surrender that’s hard, it’s the daily one.

The micro-surrender of:

• Another month

• Another prayer

• Another hopeful moment

• Another morning where you carry on, quietly trusting even when you don’t feel like it

Sometimes the timeline you planned gets replaced by the timeline that will actually transform you.

Scripture says:

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.”
— Ecclesiastes 3:11

Not your time,
not the time you penciled in your planner,
not the time that makes the most sense…its time.

And often, that’s the most difficult part, recognizing that beauty still unfolds even when we can’t predict the pace of its arrival.

The Holiness of Still Showing Up

One of the most sacred things you can do in a waiting season is continue living.

To show up for the things that make you feel alive.
To build.
To create.
To love others well.
To enjoy the parts of life that are already here, already beautiful, already good.

Hope doesn’t mean you pause your life until everything falls into place.
Hope means you trust that God is working in places you cannot see.

And when it feels like nothing is happening?

Many times, everything is.

What I Know For Certain About Waiting

Waiting is not wasted.
Waiting is not punishment.
Waiting is not evidence of failure.

Waiting is a refinement process.
A strengthening.
A stretching of faith in directions you didn’t think it could reach.

And it prepares you, spiritually, emotionally, and practically, for what you’re asking for.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

1. God hears you the first time you pray.

Silence is not disinterest.

2. You are not behind.

You are on a different assignment, with a different timeline.

3. The thing you’re waiting for doesn’t define you.

It’s part of your story, not the whole of it.

4. Joy can exist in the same room as longing.

You don’t have to choose one over the other.

5. Hope is not naïve.

It’s warfare.
It’s resilience.
It’s faith in motion.

For Anyone Waiting for Something

If you’re living in your own season of in-between: waiting for healing, clarity, opportunity, a relationship, a baby, a breakthrough, I want you to know this:

You’re not alone.
You’re not forgotten.
You’re not off-track.
You’re not being punished.
You’re not invisible.

Scripture tells us:

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
— Exodus 14:14

And sometimes stillness doesn’t mean inactivity, it means releasing the belief that you’re carrying this alone.

It also reminds us:

“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.”

— Isaiah 40:31

Hope isn’t weak.
Hope is power.
Hope is spiritual endurance.

And one of my favorites:

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
— Psalm 34:18

You are not waiting in an empty place. You are waiting in the presence of a God who draws nearer in the ache, not farther away.

God is already on the next chapter. You’re simply catching up to the goodness He’s preparing.

So until then, keep living, keep creating, keep praying, keep preparing, keep softening where life has made you hard, and keep hope alive in whatever small way you can.

Because the wait will make sense one day.
And your heart will be wiser, stronger, and softer for having walked through it.

I know there were days when you felt like you didn’t quite fit in. Like everyone else spoke a different language, one made up of Friday night plans, internships, and city dreams that never included a golf club. You were the girl who swapped nights out for early mornings on the range, who missed tailgates because of tournaments, who turned down fun things because there was always another round to play.

You weren’t wrong to do that. You were just early.

There will be moments when you question it, especially after college, when everyone you know moves to New York or Boston, gets “real jobs,” and has the kind of life everyone seems to post about. You’ll live in a strangers house for the summer so you can accept your dream golf instruction job, doing something no one fully understands. You’ll wonder if chasing this golf dream is the right decision. You’ll questions your choices when others say “you’ll never make any real money as a golf pro.” But one day, you’ll look around and realize that staying the course (literally and figuratively) gave you everything you love most.

Ever since I was younger, I’ve been a procrastinator.

Not the kind who misses deadlines or forgets things, everything always gets done. But the kind who waits until the absolute last possible second to start. Packing for a trip, writing a paper, even packing up our entire house to move… I somehow thrive in the chaos of the eleventh hour.

It’s like I suddenly enter this hyper-productive flow state where I can move mountains in record time. And it’s not lost on me how strange that is, because I’ve also spent countless hours stressing over the things I wasn’t doing yet.

This week I teed it up in my first tournament in over a year and a half. I’ve been playing a lot of golf lately, but between work, travel, and life, I just haven’t made the time to play in any PGA section events. Our Section Championship happened to fall on a rare open spot in my schedule, the course was close enough to drive back and forth each day, and I thought, why not?

I had never seen the course before, and honestly, I had no expectations. I wasn’t particularly nervous, just curious to see how my game would hold up under the tournament lens again.

Many people pointed out that a collar itself doesn’t make someone respectful. And they’re right. Clothing doesn’t magically make you kind, considerate, or ethical. I’ve had wonderful experiences on the course with people dressed casually, and I’ve also seen poor behavior from those in perfect polos.

So why do I care so much about attire in golf? For me, it’s not about the collar, it’s about what it represents. Golf has always carried a sense of tradition and respect: for the course, for the people you’re with, and for the game itself. Dressing conservatively, whether it’s a collared shirt, a mock (which I absolutely consider a collar), or a polished dress, sets a tone. It shows you value where you are and that you take pride in presenting yourself well.

And that’s something I feel is missing in society as a whole. We live in a world where people rush, throw something on, and often don’t take pride in looking put together. To me, golf is a reminder that how you present yourself to the world matters. It’s not about how expensive your clothing is, it’s about taking yourself and the space you’re in seriously enough to show respect through appearance as well as behavior.

This is especially important for young people learning the game. Golf is a classroom for life: discipline, patience, honesty, and yes, presentation. When we teach the next generation to show up well, both in attitude and in how they carry themselves, we’re instilling lessons that reach far beyond the course.

I also need to touch on something more sensitive but important: the rise of overly sexualized attire in golf, especially online. I believe it undermines the progress women have worked so hard to make in this sport. For decades, women fought simply to be allowed to play, to be respected for their skill, and to be taken seriously in a male-dominated game. When the focus shifts from ability to appearance in a sexualized way, it distracts from the real headway we’ve made. Golf can absolutely be stylish, elegant, and feminine without being overly revealing.

At the end of the day, clothing won’t define your character, but it does send a message. The question is: what message do we want golf to send to the world? For me, it’s a game that deserves to be associated with respect, elegance, and pride. If we let go of those standards completely, we risk losing some of what makes golf so special. But if we hold onto them while still allowing for personal style and modern expression, we can create a balance, one that honors the past while protecting the integrity of the game for the future.
