You haven’t disagreed with them. You haven’t accepted their premise. You’ve simply asked them to explain why the thing they just threw into the room matters.

Consider a familiar example.

“She’s a Muslim.”

So what?

And stop.

Don’t explain religious freedom. Don’t point out that there are Muslims on their side too. Don’t launch into the hypocrisy of selectively caring about someone’s religion.

Make them finish the thought.

Why does it matter?

Because now something interesting has happened. The person who tossed out the rage bait has to decide whether there was actually an argument behind it.

Rage bait isn’t necessarily an argument

I think this is something we frequently get wrong.

We treat rage bait as though it were a poorly constructed argument waiting to be defeated by a better argument.

Often it isn’t an argument at all.

It’s a button.

Democrat. Muslim. Immigrant. Socialist. Woke. Communist. Whatever today’s word happens to be.

The purpose isn’t necessarily to communicate a coherent thought. It’s to trigger an association, produce anger, reinforce membership in the group and provoke a response.

And then we respond exactly as requested.

We research. We fact-check. We demonstrate the hypocrisy. We write four paragraphs explaining why the six words thrown at us are wrong.

They supplied the bait.

We supplied the debate.

Make them earn the debate

That’s what I like about “So what?”

It’s a filter.

If the response is another slogan, an insult, a meme, a conspiracy theory or a sudden change of subject, you have your answer.

There was no debate to be had.

Block and go.

You’ve invested two words.

But suppose the response is:

“I think it matters because…”

Okay.

Now we have something.

Maybe what follows is nonsense. Maybe it’s factually wrong. Maybe it’s offensive. Maybe after another thirty seconds you decide there is still nothing worth discussing.

Block and go.

But perhaps once in a very large number of these encounters, someone actually makes an argument worthy of the name.

Now you get to decide whether you want to engage.

The important part is that you remain in control of that decision.

The original rage bait was designed to take that control away from you—to choose the subject, provoke the emotion and make you respond.

“So what?” hands the burden right back.

Maybe the playground knew something

We had plenty of ways of dealing with stupid provocations when we were younger.

Bullshit.

Fuck off.

Who cares?

So what?

Most of them simply end the conversation.

But “So what?” does something slightly different.

It leaves the door cracked open.

It says: If there’s an actual thought behind what you just said, let’s hear it.

There is plenty of research showing that outrage and attacks on the other tribe spread exceptionally well on social media. The platforms reward the bait.

That doesn’t mean we have to reward the fisherman.

So the next time somebody drops an obvious piece of rage bait into your feed, don’t spend twenty minutes constructing the perfect rebuttal.

Try two words.

So what?

Then wait.

They will usually tell you whether they’re worth another two.

An Idea

I.

Bob Donaldson

I. learning — not hiding behind consultants and polling cross-tabs.
The bridge to rural America is open.
The invitation is waiting.
But it won’t stay open forever.

Because nothing says protest like an armada of tractors in the parade — proud, battered, and unbowed, rolling down Main Street demanding to be seen.

A Vision Worth the Risk

We’ve already said what we want:

Justice that’s isn’t partisan. It’s American.
And the farmers should be standing at the front of that parade — because they live that vision every day.

The Bigger Tent

This is how we build it.
By walking with the people who feed us.
By showing up, side by side, until no one stands alone.

The tent is big enough for everyone — farmers, teachers, nurses, small business owners, veterans, factory workers, the young and the old.
Everyone who’s been left behind by a politics that stopped listening.

If the it isn’t book learning.
It is knowledge earned through experience, passed down through families and work.
It weighs risk, spots danger, sizes up opportunity — and points us toward doing what is right.
It asks simple questions: Does this add up? Does it fit what I know to be true? What happens if I’m wrong?
It is the education of experience, the discipline of survival, the people’s way of thinking.

The Lessons of Work

In the mine, you watch the greenhorn who can get you killed.
On the farm, you don’t plant in frozen ground.
In the factory, you don’t put your hand where the machine bites.
In the service, you follow the quiet sergeant, not the loudmouth officer.

Nurses know one slip spreads infection.
Truckers know fatigue kills faster than speed.
Teachers know no child learns on an empty stomach.
Firefighters know you don’t charge a blaze without knowing your way out.

That is common sense thinking in action — judgment shaped by work, tested by risk, and trusted because it keeps people alive.

The Lessons of History

Churchill knew Hitler’s word was worthless.
Lincoln knew McClellan would never fight.
Washington knew starving men could still march for freedom.
Rosa Parks knew she was just as tired as any man.

And we also know what happens when common sense thinking is ignored:
Plow under the prairie, you get a Dust Bowl.
Throw bodies at the jungle, you get Vietnam.
Lend money to the unready, you get a crash.

History makes it plain: when leaders ignore common sense thinking, everyone pays.
When the people act on it, they bend history toward what is right.

The Folk Wisdom

We’ve always said it out loud:
Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.
Don’t buy what you can’t pay for.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
The louder the brag, the less the man knows.

These aren’t just sayings. They are common sense thinking passed from one generation to the next — the people’s education, written in plain speech.

The Close

Common sense thinking is not theory.
It’s not a slogan.
It is the way the people live their lives.
It is the way we keep a nation steady.
It is how we decide what is right — and then do it.

So I’ll ask you—

America, what is your common sense thinking telling you about what is right He branded the hosts of current Democratic podcasts as “four white millionaires dining out on their association with Obama from 16 years ago” The Washington Post+5The Wall Street Journal+5AP News+5.

He went further—saying the party lost its advantage not because of policy or polling, but because it failed to stay loyal to its own leader at a moment of crisis: “We lost the last election because we did not remain loyal to the leader of the party … the Democratic Party literally melted down.” The Times+2The Daily Beast+2The Washington Post+2

That meltdown wasn’t betrayal of Biden, but betrayal of purpose. Not recklessly. But intentionally—with the truth in hand.

As an Outrider, your role now shifts:
From quiet steward to deliberate participant.
From watcher to reporter.
From holding the line—to holding power to account.

You will still observe. Still record. Still protect.
But now, you’ll begin to engage—with caution, clarity, and courage.

🛑 Cardinal Rules for You, the Outrider

What I’d tell you if I were your father

What you’re doing matters—but it only matters if you’re around to finish the work.
You don’t owe anyone a headline. You don’t need to prove your courage.
What matters most is that you stay steady, you stay safe, and you stay ready.

These aren’t just tactics. These are your guardrails. They protect you—and the truth you carry.

1. Your Safety Comes First

Your first move isn’t your camera. It’s looking around. Knowing where you are. Staying calm.

Step back. Use distance. Zoom later.

Your job is to bear witness—not to be seen, not to be caught, not to be targeted.

You don’t have to be visible to make a difference. Sometimes, your strength is that no one knows you’re watching.

2. Get It Right

Don’t guess. Don’t fill in blanks. Don’t embellish.

Record what actually happened. If you’re unsure, say so.

Note times, locations, names, sequence. Small facts will matter later.

Truth holds power when you treat it with care.

3. Make It Whole

Keep the full picture—not just the clip that might go viral.

Save entire videos. Include what happened before and after.

Write down what you saw, not just what others say.

What seems small now may be vital later. Trust your attention.

4. You Are Not Alone

Multiple accounts make the story harder to deny.

If you saw something, others probably did too.

Encourage them to document what they saw—independently, and in their own words.

But assume this: you may be the only one who saw it clearly.
You may be the only one who wrote it down.
So act like your record is the one the truth will depend on.

5. Share the Risk

Don’t store everything in one place.

Back up your files. Encrypt if needed. Keep a copy offline.

Share with someone you trust. Let them know where the record is.

You’re not meant to carry this alone. That’s not strength—it’s vulnerability.

6. You Come First

If things get dangerous—if the story pulls you in or you uncover something bigger than expected—step back.

Secure yourself before you secure the story.
Let someone else carry it forward.
You’re not a martyr. You’re a steward. And you’re needed for the long haul.

You don’t owe anyone bravery.
But if you choose to step forward, you deserve to do it with preparation and support.
Risk is not the enemy. Isolation is.

I. Your Role as an Outrider

The institutions are faltering. The truth is contested. The consequences are real.

When the official story drifts—and the official channels stall—you are the one who keeps the record.
Not to go viral. Not to inflame.
But to observe, to preserve, and when the time is right, to report.

You are no longer just holding receipts.
You are preparing to deliver them—quietly, carefully, and with precision.

The moment may not come with fanfare.
It may come quietly—an opportunity, a breach, a request for proof.

When it does, you’ll be ready.
Because you’ve been watching.
Because you’ve kept the record.
Now: Risk on.

II. Your Framework: The Chain of Reckoning

This is your method. Five steps. Quiet. Durable. Designed to outlast chaos and overwrite lies.

1. Observe Without Illusion

You’re here to see clearly—not to judge, speculate, or confirm what you already believe.
Write down what happened—not what should have happened.
Stick to details: timestamps, locations, names, actions, outcomes.

You’re not here to spin the story. You’re here to build the logbook.

2. Document Relentlessly

Keep a running log of what you see, hear, and collect.
Save photos and videos with original metadata.
Back up your files. Keep one copy encrypted, one offline if you can.
Label everything—dates, places, context. You’re building a map.

You don’t need a flood of information. You need a clean trail someone else can follow.

3. Map the Violation to the Pressure Point

Every violation you observe—abuse of power, corruption, violence, neglect—has a place it can be reported.
Your job isn’t to solve it. We are not being invited into the room where it happens.

We’ve marched. We’ve voted. We’ve written, spoken, testified, debated, pleaded. For years, millions of us have poured our energy into holding the line — hoping that reason would prevail, that checks would check, and that those in power would finally hear the people they swore to serve. There have been millions upon millions of words written/spoken on Substack about the problem, and what to do!

But what has changed?

We now live in a country where corruption is celebrated, truth is punished, and justice is delayed until it dies. The courts are political. The laws are unequal. The press is mocked. Women have lost rights their grandmothers fought for. Children fear gunfire at school. Workers are disposable. The planet is burning. And still — still — the response from power is silence, cruelty, or more profit.

At some point, words become decoration.

Too many essays today are “ain’t it awful”, “see how stupid they are” complaining, for clicks and subscriptions. Strongly worded letters that fall on deaf ears. The owners of this country do not care about our words or our protests. But we all know whose attention has been gotten? Target, they feel the consequences of the boycott. We know what works. Money talks and in the case of Target they are listening and others are watching. We need to scale this up to drive consequences and effect the change we want.

There’s a story: if you place a frog into boiling water, it jumps out. But if you put it in cool water and slowly raise the heat, it won’t notice the danger — and it will never get out. That’s where we are now. The temperature has been rising for years — one law, one lie, one quiet cruelty at a time. We keep protesting, writing letters, phoning, complaining and hoping things will get better. Enough already, get out of the pot.

It is time for the people to stop. To withdraw our consent. To say — firmly, peacefully, unrelentingly — No More.

Not just for a day. Not for the optics. But until this stops.

We must withdraw our consent by withdrawing our service to the economy.

Walk the Talk, baby

There’s a question that’s been gnawing at me lately and I see a lot of other conversations along the same line, and it won’t let go:

Bob Donaldson

There’s a question that’s been gnawing at me lately and I see a lot of other conversations along the same line, and it won’t let go:

Why do MAGA voters admire Donald Trump so much?
Not vote for. Not tolerate. Admire. Idolize. Defending like their lives depend on it.

Because I’m not talking about traditional political preferences. This is something deeper—and darker. This is hero worship. And it’s time we dragged that admiration out into the light and asked what, exactly, it means.

So, I have a few questions. Not for the media. Not for politicians. But for regular MAGA supporters, especially the ones raising kids and running homes—the ones who cheer the loudest while everything around them gets quieter, more controlled, hollower.

To the moms and dads with sons

You say you admire Trump because he’s a “fighter,” because he “says what he thinks,” because he’s “not afraid.”

OK. But let me ask you:

Are you raising your sons and daughters to be like him?

Do you want your boys and girls to lie without shame?
To cheat when they think they can get away with it?
To brag about sexual assault, bullying, or mock disabled people, or threaten violence when someone disagrees with them?

Do you want your sons and daughters to dodge responsibility for every mistake, to blame the world, to say “I don’t recall” when the heat turns up?

Is that your model of manhood and womanhood?

Because if you are raising them to a different standard, then you’ve got some explanations to make. Either Trump’s character matters, or it doesn’t. Either values matter, or they don’t. You can’t tell your kids to do better while holding up a man who does worse as your personal role model.

To the Women Who Applaud Him

Let’s talk honestly. If you support Trump—and Project 2025, the radical right-wing roadmap he and the GOP have in their sights—then I have one simple question:

Why aren’t you living that life already?

Why do you have a job, a car, a mortgage in your own name?
Why do you speak online, run businesses, teach, lead, vote, however you please?

Because in the world Trump’s allies want, you don’t get to do that.
Not without permission.
Not without risk.
Not without being reminded that your place is wherever a man says it is.

So, if you love what they’re planning for yourself and your daughters —forced birth, rollback of civil rights, the Bible in every law and bedroom—why aren’t you already walking that walk? Or is it just easier to pretend they don’t mean you?

Oh but, He Meant You All Along

That’s the lie your believing, isn’t it?
That Trump only targets other people. The immigrants. The cities. The “coastal elites.” The ones who “deserve it.”
But look around.

The farmers got crushed by his trade wars and immigration deportations.
The small-town hospitals shut down while his friends ran vaccine grifts.
And now Project 2025 promises to erase entire protections for women, workers, the poor, the sick, and yes—you.

He meant you all along.

The Questions We Need to Ask—Now

If you're one of the millions of Americans trying to keep the peace at family dinners, biting your tongue for the sake of civility, here’s something to think about: maybe it’s time to start asking better questions. Not with rage. Not with sarcasm. But with clarity.

When your Trump-supporting brother, sister, aunt, uncle or cousin starts talking about values and strength using Trump as their role model, ask:

"Are you planning to raise little Billy or Janey to lie, cheat, dodge blame, and take credit for other people’s work? Because that’s what Trump does. Is that who you want him to grow up to be?"

And when your aunt or sister-in-law gushes about how “we need to take America back,” ask:

"If you want the world Trump and Project 2025 are promising—where women need permission, stay quiet, stay home—why aren’t you already living that life? Why do you still expect independence?"

These aren't insults. They're mirror checks. And we need a lot more of those.

The Reckoning

It’s time to stop pretending this is normal.
It’s not a political debate anymore. It’s not even culture war cosplay. It’s a test of what we’re willing to accept in a leader, our country, and in ourselves.

So, to all the Trump admirers out there, I’ll end with this:

If you’re so proud of him, raise your kids to be just like him.
If you love his vision, go live it now. No need to wait.
But if you can’t? If you won’t?

Then maybe—just maybe—it’s time to admit that you’ve been sold a lie dressed up as a red hat.
And just maybe your answer needs to be “hell no”.
