There will always be another deadline, another bill to pay, another family member who needs you, another goal to chase, another notification waiting to be answered. If you’re waiting for life to become empty before you allow yourself to breathe, you’ll be waiting forever.

Some of us didn’t grow up believing rest was normal. We watched parents who worked until they broke down. We learnt that saying “I’m tired” sounded like weakness and that slowing down meant we were falling behind. So now, even on our day off, we find something to do just to avoid feeling “lazy.”

The guilt isn’t coming from your schedule. It’s coming from the belief that your worth is tied to your usefulness. Notice how quickly you feel uncomfortable when you’re doing absolutely nothing. Not scrolling. Not cleaning. Not replying to messages. Just, existing. Somewhere along the line, being human stopped feeling enough. We became machines that constantly needed to produce something to feel valuable.

But here’s the irony. The version of you you’re trying so hard to protect is often the one your constant busyness is quietly destroying. Your patience becomes shorter. Your creativity dries up. Conversations begin to feel like obligations. Prayer becomes another task to tick off instead of a place to rest. You stop enjoying the very life you’re working so hard to build. Maybe rest isn’t the reward after you’ve finished everything.

Maybe rest is what keeps you from losing yourself while you’re building everything. So this week, leave something unfinished. Say no without writing a five-paragraph explanation. Sleep before your body demands it.

The world will keep spinning. And you’ll discover something beautiful: your value never left the room just because you decided to.

I’ll see next week,

OLUWAYEMISI

Your Limits Are Wisdom

Some delays are preparing you for the life you’re asking for.

ONE 2 ONE

Hello, This is for you,

A young graduate once complained that life wasn’t moving fast enough. Others were quietly wishing they had different stories to tell.

And somewhere between all those posts, I found myself thinking about something I had never really considered before. As children, we assume our experience of life is everyone’s experience of life. If your father showed up, you think fathers show up. If you were protected, you think every child was protected. If someone constantly reminded you that you were capable, you assume every child grew up hearing the same thing.

You don’t know any different. Then you become an adult. And you meet people who have spent years trying to recover from things you never had to survive. You meet people who stay in situations that diminish them because being valued feels unfamiliar. You meet people who are shocked by basic kindness because they grew up receiving so little of it.

And suddenly, things you once considered ordinary no longer feel ordinary. I used to think being able to stand up for myself was just who I was. Now I realize it is easier to stand your ground when you were raised knowing you deserved to take up space. The older I get, the more I realize that many of the things we call personality traits are actually childhood experiences that followed us into adulthood.

Some people inherited fear. Some people inherited courage. Some people inherited silence. Some people inherited confidence. And most of us are still discovering the impact of those things years later.

That is what Father’s Day made me think about. Not the grand gestures. Not the photographs. Not even the celebrations. Just the quiet realization that some of the things we thought were normal were shaping us all along. Trying to make someone understand why I felt hurt. Trying to prove that my intentions were good.Trying to convince someone to treat me with the same care I was giving them.

I remember reading those messages and feeling embarrassed. Not because I was wrong. But because I remembered how exhausted I was. How much energy I spent trying to be understood by people who had already decided not to understand me.

The funny thing is, if that same situation happened today, I probably wouldn’t send any of those messages. Not because I’ve become cold. Not because I don’t care. But because I’ve learned that not every misunderstanding needs a courtroom. Not every silence needs chasing. Not every relationship needs saving. And nobody congratulates you for growth like that.

Nobody throws a party because you finally stopped over-explaining yourself.Nobody buys you flowers because you chose peace over proving a point. Nobody knows that you typed the message, read it twice, and then deleted it. But that is growth too. The world celebrates the obvious things. The new job. The engagement. The graduation. The promotion. But some of the hardest victories happen where nobody can see them. It’s choosing not to return to what broke you. It’s recognizing a pattern before it repeats itself. It’s finally believing what people do instead of getting lost in what they say. It’s learning that your worth is not something you negotiate for.

The older I get, the more I realize that some of the most important changes in our lives happen without witnesses. The kind of tired that comes from trying. Trying to build a better life. Trying to stay hopeful. Trying to trust that all the sacrifices will be worth it.

And if we’re honest, many of us know exactly what that feels like. Because there comes a point where you’re no longer asking for shortcuts or expecting overnight miracles. You just want proof that your efforts are leading somewhere. You want to know that the applications you’ve been sending are not a waste. That the business you’re building isn’t just consuming your time. That the prayers you’ve whispered at 2 a.m. are not bouncing off the ceiling. That all the things you’ve had to walk away from will eventually make sense.

The difficult thing about growth is that it rarely looks the way we expect. We think growth looks like getting the job. Sometimes growth is surviving the rejection. We think growth looks like finding the right partner. Sometimes growth is learning how to walk away from the wrong one.

We think growth looks like making more money. Sometimes growth is learning not to panic when life gets hard. A lot of us are so focused on what hasn’t happened that we fail to notice who we’re becoming. Five years ago, some conversations would have broken you. Today, they don’t. Five years ago, you would have settled for less. Today, you won’t. Five years ago, you needed constant validation. Today, you’re learning to trust yourself. That didn’t happen by accident. Something has been growing. Maybe not your bank account, platform, or relationship status. But your wisdom has grown. Your resilience has grown. Your standards have grown. And one day, the things you’re waiting for will catch up with the person you’ve been becoming.

So if you’re tired, take a breath before you give up. Look at how far you’ve come, not just how far you still want to go. The progress that matters most is often the progress no one can see. The strength you’ve built in private will carry you into the life you’re hoping for. You may not have everything you want yet. But you are stronger, wiser, and more prepared than you were when this journey began. And when the breakthrough finally arrives, you’ll realize this season was never empty. It was shaping you. Something is growing. Even if you can’t see it yet.

With Love,

OLUWAYEMISI

Comfort Won’t Grow You

But Action Will

ONE 2 ONE

Hello, This is for you,

A few days ago, I watched a little boy at a swimming pool. He stood at the edge for almost twenty minutes. One foot in. One foot out. Every few seconds, he’d look at the water, then look back at his mother. He wanted to jump. You could see it in his eyes. But fear kept convincing him that standing at the edge was safer than moving forward.

Then something happened. Another child, much younger than him, ran past and jumped straight in. The water splashed everywhere. The younger child came up laughing. And suddenly, the boy who had been standing there all that time jumped too. Not because his fear disappeared. But because he finally moved before it did.

I couldn’t stop thinking about that moment. How many of us are living our lives from the edge?

When I moved to the UK, I wasn’t carrying confidence in my suitcase. I was carrying uncertainty, questions, and more fears than I admitted to people. There were days I wondered if I had made the wrong decision. But imagine if I had stayed where I was simply because it felt safer. I would never have earned my Master’s degree. I would never have become a Team Leader.

I would never have started building the dreams that now keep me awake with excitement. The life I prayed for was hidden behind actions that scared me.

And that’s usually how growth works. The opportunity you want may be on the other side of an application you’re afraid to submit. The relationship you desire may be on the other side of healing you keep postponing. The future you’re praying for may be waiting for a move you’ve been avoiding.

Comfort feels good today. But action gives you a story you’ll be proud of tomorrow.

The people we admire aren’t necessarily the bravest people in the room. They’re often just the people who decided to move while their knees were still shaking.

So here’s the question I’m leaving you with: What is one thing you’ve been postponing because it feels uncomfortable? Maybe today is the day you stop planning it. And start doing it.

Until next Monday,

OLUWAYEMISI

One Brave Step

That’s How Momentum Starts.

ONE 2 ONE

Hello, This is for you,

Can I ask you something honest?

How many things have you talked yourself out of lately, not because you couldn’t do them, but because the step felt too small to matter, or too big to survive?

I used to believe momentum looked dramatic. A big announcement. A perfect moment. Something worth posting about. But I’ve learned that’s rarely how life actually changes.

Life changes the day you finally send the email you’ve rewritten nine times. The day you apply, even while your stomach is in knots. The day you stop waiting to feel ready and just show up, nervous, uncertain, and going anyway. That’s it. That’s how it starts.

We underestimate small beginnings because they look so ordinary. Nobody claps when you decide to try again after being hurt. Nobody sees the courage it took just to get out of bed after a real disappointment. Nobody hears the argument you had with yourself at 2am when fear said “just wait a little longer.”

But you heard it. And you’re still here. That matters more than you know. Because that one small step breaks the most dangerous thing, paralysis. Not the whole journey. Just the first movement. The moment you stop romanticizing someday and choose today instead. Most of the beautiful things in life are waiting on the other side of movement.

So this week, what’s the one thing fear has been quietly talking you out of? Do that thing. Apply. Start. Leave. Speak. Begin. It might look small today. But some of the most important decisions of your life probably looked small the day you made them.

I’ll be here rooting for you,

OLUWAYEMISI.

One Year of Words That Held Me Together

One year, 54 posts, countless quiet battles, from surviving my own storms to becoming a voice for yours.

ONE 2 ONE

Hello, This is for you,

A year ago, I did not start writing because life was beautiful. Courage is not standing on a stage or making bold announcements. Sometimes, it looks like opening your bank app when money is funny and choosing not to panic. Sometimes, it’s checking your email when you’ve been avoiding it because you’re scared of disappointment. Sometimes, it’s being in a country far from home, trying to act like you’re okay, when deep down you’re wondering if all this stretching, sacrificing, and surviving will ever make sense.

I remember a season in my life when courage looked nothing like confidence. It looked like uncertainty. Like applying for something I wasn’t even sure I could afford. Like leaving room for hope when logic said, “Be realistic.” Like moving forward with shaky hands.

And that’s the thing nobody tells you, real courage often shakes.

It’s the mother showing up for her children when she’s exhausted. The immigrant learning how to begin again.
The young woman choosing to leave what is familiar because she knows she deserves better. The person praying with tears because faith is all they have left.

We celebrate big wins, but the truth is, some of the bravest moments in your life will never be posted. Nobody will clap when you choose not to give up. Nobody may even notice when you keep going. But you will know.

And one day, you’ll look back and realize it wasn’t one giant brave decision that changed your life. It was the small ones.
The quiet ones. The days you almost gave up but didn’t.

So if today all you did was keep going, even with fear in your chest. It’s almost funny when I hear it, because I remember where it started. As a teenager, when I first began cooking for the house, it was far from impressive. The food was sometimes too salty, sometimes watery, sometimes undercooked, sometimes just, off. There were days it didn’t taste right at all.

But I didn’t stop. I stayed in the kitchen. I paid attention. I watched people cook, watched videos, asked questions in my own quiet way. I kept trying, again and again, until something began to shift. Slowly, I got better. And now, when people mention my name, one of the first things that comes to mind is: she’s a good cook.

That didn’t come from talent alone. It came from trying. Repeatedly. And that’s where this truth sits for me: grace still meets effort.

Not when everything is perfect. Not when you’ve mastered it all. But in the middle of your trying. In your consistency. In your decision to show up again, even after it didn’t go well the last time.

Trying counts. More than we realize. Because effort is a quiet declaration that you haven’t given up on yourself. Not the “I’m fine” version, but the honest one. Did you rest, or did life quietly stretch you again? I hope somewhere in between the responsibilities and the noise, you found a moment to breathe. And if you didn’t, I’m really glad you’re here now. Mondays are funny, they come with both fresh hope and silent pressure, like you should have everything figured out by now.

But the truth? Most of us are just taking the next step and hoping it makes sense later.

I remember January 2023 so clearly. I knew, deep down, that I wanted to relocate. It wasn’t even a loud dream, it was just this quiet conviction that I needed to move. The problem? I didn’t have the money. Not even close.

Still, I took a step.

I applied to the University of Hull. Just one school. It even felt a bit embarrassing at the time, like, what’s the point of applying to multiple places when financially, it didn’t even add up? But that was the step I could take, so I took it.

Then March came. Admission. And instead of relief, I felt panic. Because now it was real. I wasn’t trying to figure out how to pay £2000 anymore, it was £4000. Bigger than I imagined. Bigger than I planned for.

But somehow, step after step, things started aligning.

Not all at once. Not magically. Just, gradually. One decision. One provision. One unexpected help. One moment of courage at a time. And before I fully understood how it all came together, I had relocated.

The picture below was taken at Heathrow Airport to show mum I had gotten to the United Kingdom.

That season taught me something I’ll never forget: You don’t need the full plan. You just need the courage to take the next step. Because clarity doesn’t always come before movement. Sometimes, it comes because of it.

So this week, don’t overwhelm yourself with the whole picture. Just ask yourself: what is the next step I can take?

Send the email. Start small. Try again. Rest, if that’s what you need. You’re not behind. You’re in motion, even if it doesn’t feel like it yet.

And sometimes, that’s all it takes.

I’ll see you next week,

With Love,

OLUWAYEMISI

Move Anyway

Even if you’re unsure

ONE 2 ONE

Hello, This is for you,

I didn’t plan to write this today. Not lost, not exactly stuck, just… unsure. Unsure if I’m making the right moves. Unsure if I’m ready. Unsure if I’m doing enough.

And for a moment, I paused everything.

You know that feeling? When you tell yourself, “Let me wait till I’m clearer. Let me wait till I feel more certain.”

But here’s what I’m learning, slowly and honestly: clarity doesn’t always come before movement. Sometimes, it comes because of it.

There was a time I thought confidence was a requirement, like you had to feel ready before you start. But lately, I’ve been showing up with shaky hands and a quiet prayer instead. Sending the message. Taking the step. Saying yes. Even when a part of me is still asking, “Are you sure?”

Because waiting until you’re 100% certain can quietly turn into not moving at all. And life doesn’t reward hesitation the way we think it does.

So this is me, reminding you (and myself): move anyway. Apply anyway. Start anyway. Speak anyway. Try anyway.

Not because you have everything figured out, but because you don’t need to.

There’s a version of you on the other side of that step you’re avoiding. And you won’t meet them by overthinking your way there. You meet them by moving.

Even if your voice shakes. Even if your plan isn’t perfect. Even if you’re unsure. Move anyway.

I’m right there with you.

With Hugs,

OLUWAYEMISI.

Your Choice, Your Life

The Act of Choosing Well

ONE 2 ONE

Hello, This is for you,

How are you really doing? My uncle passed. And the hardest part? None of us knew he had been battling an illness. Not one person. He carried it alone.

And I keep asking myself, how does someone go through something that heavy, in silence?

This is why your choice is your life. Because sometimes, it’s not just about who you love, it’s about who you allow to stand close enough to notice when you’re not okay.

Yes, we all want to build our own families. To choose a partner. To create something new. That’s beautiful. But don’t let that choice cost you the people who knew you before you became “someone’s wife” or “someone’s husband.”

If you are in a relationship or marriage and you feel isolated, please, reach out. Call your siblings. Text your parents. Sit with your friends. You are not meant to carry life alone.

Your partner should never become your only world. Not at the cost of your voice. Not at the cost of your support system.

Choosing well means choosing connection, not control. It means choosing a partner who doesn’t cut you off from your roots, but helps you stay grounded in them.

And if the family you come from is healthy, fight for that balance. Make peace where you can. Don’t replace them. Add to them.

Your life should never shrink because of love. Even your friends, choose them well. They should be people who check on you, who notice your silence, who refuse to let you disappear.

Because the truth is, the life you live tomorrow will be shaped by the choices you defend today.

So ask yourself, who am I choosing, and what is it costing me?

I’ll see you next week.

With Love,

OLUWAYEMISI.

Trust God with it

You don’t have to carry everything.

ONE 2 ONE

Hello, This is for you,

How are you really doing?

I hope your weekend gave you at least a moment to breathe, even if it was just sitting quietly, scrolling, or laughing at something small that didn’t matter but somehow did. One that once felt perfect. And suddenly it just, doesn’t sit right anymore. Not because the outfit is bad. It’s just not you anymore.

Growth feels a lot like that. Sometimes it’s friendships that no longer fit the person you’re becoming. Sometimes it’s habits you once defended but now quietly walk away from. Sometimes it’s environments that once felt comfortable but now feel too small for the version of you that’s stretching.

And the strange part is that growth doesn’t always announce itself loudly. Most times it whispers.

You notice it when certain conversations no longer excite you. When your tolerance for chaos becomes smaller. When peace starts to matter more than proving a point.

I used to think growth would always feel like winning, like loud achievements and big celebrations. But lately I’m realizing it often looks quieter than that.

Sometimes growth simply means you wake up one day and say, “This doesn’t fit me anymore.”

Not with anger. Not with resentment.

Just clarity. And clarity is powerful.

It means you’re learning to honor the person you’re becoming instead of forcing yourself to remain the person you once were.

So if something in your life suddenly feels tight, a role, a pattern, a mindset, it might not be failure.

It might just be that you’ve grown. And growth, like life, is always changing shape.

See you next Monday.

With Love,

OLUWAYEMISI

You’re Not Losing

You’re choosing peace.

ONE 2 ONE

Hello, This is for you,

Before we go anywhere, tell me, how was last week for you? Someone said something that could easily have pulled me into an argument. You know the kind of moment I mean, when your mind is already preparing the perfect response. The clever one. The one that will prove your point and leave no room for doubt.

For a few seconds, I almost went there. But something in me paused. And instead of explaining, defending, or trying to win the moment, I simply let it go.

Not because I didn’t have something to say. Not because I was wrong. But because I suddenly realized that the energy it would take to fight that battle was not worth the peace it would cost me.

There’s a quiet strength in walking away from things that used to demand your reaction.

A few years ago, I would have stayed. I would have explained myself over and over. I would have tried to make people understand my intentions.

But growth teaches you something simple: not every misunderstanding needs correction, and not every silence means you have lost.

Sometimes silence is wisdom. Sometimes walking away is maturity. Sometimes choosing not to engage is the most powerful decision you can make.

So if lately it feels like you are “letting things go,” stepping back from unnecessary arguments, or choosing calm over chaos, please hear this clearly:

You are not losing. You are choosing peace. Why are you still holding on so tightly?

Let me tell you a short story.

Some years ago, back home in Nigeria, I watched a little child gripping a balloon so tightly. His tiny fingers were wrapped around the string like his life depended on it. Someone told him gently, “Relax your hand small, the balloon will still be there.” But he refused. The tighter he held it, the more his hand trembled.

Eventually, his hand got tired. Not because the balloon was heavy, but because constant gripping is exhausting.

I think many of us are like that child. We hold on to expectations that are no longer serving us. We hold on to relationships that already changed shape. We hold on to pressure to prove ourselves, to be strong, to keep pushing even when our hearts whisper, rest.

But here is the quiet truth I’m learning: Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is release. Not everything we carry is ours to keep forever.

Some burdens were only meant for a season. Some battles were only meant to teach us something. Some weights were never designed for our hands in the first place.

If your hands feel tired lately, maybe that is your sign. Not that you are weak. Not that you failed.

Just that it might be time to loosen your grip.

So today, as the week begins, pause for a moment and ask yourself gently: What am I holding that I no longer need to carry?

It’s okay to release this. Your hands deserve the rest.

I’ll see you next week.

With Love,

OLUWAYEMISI
