The Truth About the Millionaires Tax

Court Orders Whipsawing Over Mail-in Voting

Washington and 24 states have filed a new lawsuit against Donald Trump’s latest attempt to grab control of mail-in voting – new rules issued by the United States Postal Service:

• States must submit lists of mail-eligible voters to a federal portal ahead of the election, creating a national list;

• USPS will mail ballots only to voters whose states have complied with all federal requirements;

• USPS will mail only ballots in envelopes with specially designed bar codes.

US District Judge Indira Talwani has put a 14-day hold on the rule, saying it would be impossible for states to design new mail ballots and update their election systems before midterm ballots are to be mailed. Both sides are appealing; the case will probably go to the Supreme Court.

Action 1: Stay informed and plan ahead. Secretary of State Steve Hobbs and Attorney General Nick Brown, our intrepid election protectors, are confident Washington will win the lawsuit. But it’s wise to follow election news and make a contingency plan to return ballots to drop boxes if Washington loses. Secretary of State Hobbs is preparing a statewide plan and is distributing additional drop boxes.

Be a Pro-Democracy Ballot Count Observer!

The Thurston County Election is under unfriendly surveillance

MAGA ballot processing observers may create and spread misinformation about the trustworthiness of the 2026 mid-term election ballot count. It is essential to have a full roster of pro-democracy citizens observing ballot processing to support election integrity and counter false narratives.

Volunteer observers work 2-hour shifts at the Thurston County Elections Ballot Processing Center (2905 29th Ave SW, Suite F, Tumwater, WA 98512) during the ballot processing period, from mid-October until all ballots are processed during the week following Election Day (November 3).

Tell Secretary of State Hobbs and Attorney General Brown: Prepare to sue again to protect the mid-term election

Ninety days before each federal election, the 1993 National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) prohibits systematic voter purges. But the Trump administration is trying to coerce states into conducting mass purges — and has illegally used the Homeland Security SAVE program to attempt to impose voter list maintenance as well. They’ve been sued 23 times for interfering with state election systems and lost every case. But they won’t stop trying: the Department of Justice plans to send 1000 federal election monitors to communities across the country during the 2026 election. Elections are run by states, not the federal governments, so these “observers” will have nothing to do but try to intimidate and interfere.

Action: Ask Secretary of State Steve Hobbs and Attorney General Nick Brown to be ready to file suit to protect our election process.

Delete DoorDash Until They Stop Undermining Democracy

DoorDash said nothing when ICE murdered Johan Sebastian Guerrero, one of their delivery drivers. They kept quiet when Trump sent the National Guard to occupy the District of Columbia. But now, in retaliation to DC’s 20-cent fee on delivery orders, DoorDash is backing HR 9720, a move to strip power from DC’s local government and give it to Congress. Indivisible is partnering with FreeDC to urge all DoorDash users nationwide to delete their accounts until the company meets three demands:

1. Immediately withdraw support for HR 9720.

2. Issue a public statement against ICE and other agencies targeting and killing delivery drivers.

3. State publicly that the “DC Safe and Beautiful Task Force,” which led to the federal occupation of the city, should end.

Federal Actions

Don’t Let Congress Sneak Favors to the Logging Industry into the Farm Bill or the NDAA

When you can’t get a law passed to expand logging and threaten endangered species, what do you do? You write its language into totally unrelated “must-pass” legislation: the Farm Bill and the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Provisions shoehorned into both bills create a new categorical exclusion (CE) allowing 6000-acre “hazard tree” logging projects near roads and facilities, and more than triple the size of three existing CEs. Recent policy changes require only the most basic public disclosure for CEs; some projects have gone ahead with just two or three pages of public documentation. These bills, as written, would allow huge logging projects with zero public input and scant notice.

Action: Use the Legacy Forest Defense Coalition action to tell your Members of Congress to strike these attacks on our forests from the Farm Bill and the NDAA.

Thank AG Brown & Secretary of State Hobbs for Opposing USPS Ballot Interference

Last March, President Trump signed an executive order directing the U.S. Postal Service to mail ballots only to addressees on a national list of eligible voters. USPS has yet to respond to federal rulings blocking the order.

Our state’s elected leaders aren’t waiting to hear from USPS. Instead, they’re keeping up the pressure. Attorney General Nick Brown co-led a multistate coalition of 24 attorneys general in filing a formal comment letter July 2 opposing this attempt to seize control of elections and restrict mail-in voting.

Meanwhile, Secretary of State Steve Hobbs commented in detail on the “illegal, impractical and unwarranted” executive order and promised to fight attempts to implement it.

Tell Congress: No AI Data Centers on Federal Lands

AI data centers bring noise, light, air, and water pollution, and can increase energy costs by astronomical amounts. It’s why 63 percent of Americans oppose artificial intelligence data centers being built in their communities, according to a July 2026 Emerson College poll.

But destructive data centers could soon be popping up on federal lands and military bases across the country if the Pentagon gets its way. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is demanding billions of dollars for data centers that will supercharge AI-powered warfare and help fuel software used to make life-or-death decisions.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s No AI Data Centers on Federal Lands Act would ban large data centers and associated infrastructure on land owned or managed by the U.S. government, including on military bases.

Action: Send a message to your representative and senators demanding that they pass the No AI Data Centers on Federal Lands Act.

Did you know? Letters to the editor are still one of the most-read parts of the news.

Why now: The Millionaires Tax passed the Washington Legislature. It’s a huge win for all of us. It will make sure the services we depend on are funded into the future by asking the wealthy to pay more of what they truly owe. Now multi-millionaire Brian Heywood is trying to overturn the Millionaire’s Tax with court challenges and in November, with Ballot Measure IP26-645, which will be at the top of the Washington ballot.

Invest In Washington Now, a PAC of educators, working families, and Washingtonians formed in 2020 to advocate progressive revenue solutions and \ensure the mega-wealthy pay what they owe in taxes, has a great webpage all set up to make sending a Letter to the editor fast and easy to do.

Action: Help defend this bill from challenges in the courts and at the ballot!

Support Families Impacted by Spokane Fires

This last weekend, 65,000 people in the city of Spokane were evacuated to keep safe from the fires that destroyed over 700 homes and tens of thousands of acres of land. There is currently a bipartisan effort to get aid from the federal government: help with search and rescue, housing and food assistance, and debris removal. Let’s support our Washington community and help our neighbors in the eastern part of the state in what their mayor has described as “the worst natural disaster our region has faced.”

The Festival of the St̓əč̓as is a community event centered around Squaxin culture and connection to the area, public education, estuary restoration, environmental stewardship, and envisioning the future of a restored Deschutes Estuary. It will include a thoughtful educational and outreach area featuring organizations doing meaningful work throughout the Deschutes Watershed and South Sound region, as well as live cultural performances and local vendors.

Absolutely the Last Election Reminder

If you haven’t received your ballot for this Tuesday’s Primary election, call the County Auditor’s election team: (360) 786-5408, or 711 Washington Relay for the deaf and hard-of-hearing. You can register and then vote in person by 8 pm Tuesday, August 4 at either the Thurston County Voting Center (2915 29th Ave SW, Tumwater, WA 98512) or the Thurston County Auditor Office (3000 Pacific Ave SE, Olympia).

If you have your ballot, fill it out immediately (using OI’s Endorsements page) and drop it in an official ballot collection box by (see map). Make sure to include your phone number or email on your ballot. If your ballot is damaged, needs signature verification, or has unintended marks, Elections staff want to reach you to fix any issues. Help them find you!

Submit your Endorsement Vote on IL-645 by August 5

Multi-millionaire Brian Heywood’s ballot initiative IL-645 to repeal the Millionaire’s Tax will be on the ballot in November. The Millionaire’s Tax provides tax cuts for 99.5% of Washingtonians, paid for by a tax on income over one million dollars and earmarks the funds raised to pay for tax cuts for working and middle-class families and small business, and to fund education, healthcare, and childcare programs.

As we did for Heywood’s other initiatives (IL-001 and IL-638), we sent background information about IL-645 along with an invitation to all OI members to to decide whether OI as an organization will oppose/support/take no action on this initiative. That email was sent July 30 and voting ends August 5 at 5pm.

Action: All OI members, make sure to submit your ballot form by 5pm this Wednesday, August 5.

Join us for a Postcard Writing Party and help get out the vote in key swing states like Arizona, Ohio, and North Carolina. We supply the cards, easy-to-write scripts, and stamps (though stamps are welcome). Postcards are most effective in midterm elections, like this year’s, because the turnout is traditionally low. These cards are non-partisan; they just encourage people to vote. You might have the chance to learn the latest dance craze “Shake out writing hand cramps!”

Action: Come to a postcard-writing party at Temple Beth Hatfiloh, 201 8th Ave SE, Olympia, Wednesday, August 5, 11-1pm.

It’s an all-member picnic and you’re invited! Saturday August 15 Olympia Indivisible All-Member Picnic at LBA Park from 5:30pm-7:30pm. Bring your own picnic supper and – if you wish – a potluck dessert and be prepared to chat, relax, and listen to music.

Caffeinated and Activated: Something new is happening at Caffeinated & Activated this August

It started by accident. A few weeks ago someone made a comment at coffee, someone else responded, and before long the whole room was in it together. It got a little tense — and then it got really good. Afterward, people said: we should do that on purpose. So we are!

For the next three Saturdays, we’re turning the conversation over to you. Each week we’ll gather around a topic that matters — personal, relational, and bigger than all of us — and talk it through together, with curiosity and respect. On August 8: What gets me to show up — and what holds me back.

Comment on Thurston County’s Detention Center Moratorium

Thurston County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on August 5 for public comments on the County’s pause on permitting new public and private involuntary detention and correctional facilities. The moratorium has been in effect since June 16, freezing permits for involuntary detention centers – federal, state, and local – except for vital services like private residential facilities for sex offenders, halfway houses for juveniles, or Tribal facilities, which fall under different codes.

Urge Boeing Field Air Line Pilots to End Use of Chains

Background: Inside ICE Air: Flight Attendants on Deportation Planes Say Disaster Is “Only a Matter of Time”, ProPublica

It has been widely documented that the majority of the people being transported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have no criminal history. Despite that, every person being flown in and out of King County International Airport (KCIA) on ICE charter (relocation and deportation) flights is in chains; shackled at the wrist, ankles, and waist. Journalist Gillian Brockwell tracks deportation flights and reports that they can take literally days to fly around the world dropping off detainees in different countries. Passengers are frequently shackled for the entire flight.

Chains should be prohibited because of the obvious risk to passengers. In the event of an emergency, people in shackles cannot take action to save their own lives. King 5 has recently reported that it is against the airport’s own rules to re-fuel planes while passengers are being boarded or are on board, yet this happens regularly at KCIA, according to La Resistencia, who have been monitoring deportation flights at the airport for years.

Southeast Seattle Indivisible (SESI) is requesting you to sign a petition urging Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) to end the usage of chains on immigrants during I.C.E. flights. The petition calls on ALPA at KCIA (Boeing Field) to end the practice of transporting people in chains on ICE charter flights. Read Full Petition Here

Tell Our Senators: Reject the Trump-Netanyahu Military Partnership

Last Wednesday, House conservatives used the $1.15 trillion National Defense Authorization Act – the biggest ever – to smuggle in provisions too unpopular to pass in the open: the SAVE Act’s election-disruption language, provisions targeting LGBTQ+ people, and a provision to integrate the US and Israeli militaries even more closely. The NDAA now goes to the Senate, which is our chance to trim out the contraband.

Tell Congress: Not another dime for Trump’s Iran war

Both the House and Senate have passed War Powers Resolutions challenging Trump’s unauthorized military actions against Iran and reasserting Congress’s constitutional authority over matters of war. But the war goes on. We need Congress to hold the line: a vote for the Trump-Hegseth weapons budget, supplemental funding, or any other funding for this war is unacceptable.

One Last Time: Elections are Coming – Check Your Registration

The deadline for online or mail registration is coming up, so we’re re-running this item from the May 31 CTA. You can register in person up to August 4 (but sooner is easier!).

Primary elections are coming here! It’s time to make sure your voter registration is in order. Before July 27, go to vote.wa.gov and register or freshen up your registration; subscribe to ballot status texts so you’ll be notified if any of your information is changed, with or without your knowledge.

With enough of your personal information, anyone can change your address and get your ballot sent hundreds of miles away. That’s a felony, but offenders are unlikely to be caught – and you don’t want to wait till Election Day to start fixing it.

Indivisible National Actions

1. Sign up for Indivisible’s election protection program. “Hands Off Our Vote” is Indivisible’s biggest election protection program ever. We’re organizing in all 50 states to make sure every eligible voter is able to cast their ballot and that every vote is counted. Olympia Indivisible Actions

Join the Protest at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, Saturday, July 25, 1-3pm!

Delaney Hall, the largest detention facility in the Northeast, located in Newark, New Jersey, has been the focus of protests both inside and outside. Over 300 detainees started a hunger and labor strike in May 2026 to protest medical neglect, spoiled and worm infested food, lack of sanitation, along with legal issues – denial of bond, coercion to sign deportation or voluntary departure documents, and others.

Both Delaney Hall and the Northwest Detention Center (NWDC) in Tacoma are run by the same private company: GEO Group. NWDC detainees have also been participating in hunger strikes this year to protest similar conditions. In both facilities there have been deaths related to inadequate medical care and mental health support failures.

Action: Join Olympia Indivisible, La Resistencia and other local groups on Saturday, July 25, 1-3pm to protest at our own local Delaney Hall. Sign examples: Shut Down NWDC; Stop Ripping Families Apart; No Human is Illegal. The detainees can hear protesters inside the prison and are lifted by your support. Support the Centralia’s Warehouse Moratorium

The Centralia City council has placed a moratorium on building warehouses larger than 250,000 square feet, but that hasn’t stopped Logistics Property Company (LPC) from breaking ground on a 604,000-square-foot warehouse there.

Centralia’s city council, police, and fire department are concerned about truck traffic from this and additional warehouses — LPC hopes to build five more in the area — which would affect both Lewis County and Thurston Counties. The Port of Centralia says the streets trucks would use to access the freeway can’t handle the traffic. The warehouses would neighbor the Chehalis River, raising environmental concerns.

The Centralia City Council will hold a special meeting to vote on extending the warehouse moratorium this Tuesday, July 21, 6pm. Here is a link to the agenda. There will be a public comment period. The public is invited to attend either in person or by Zoom.

Background: Patron Coalition for Local Libraries (PCLL)

Timberland Regional Library is experiencing a budget shortfall. Although costs have risen steadily and funding from property taxes is limited by law, TRL administration made no attempt to raise funds after a failed levy lid lift in 2009. The seriousness of the shortfall came to public attention in January 2026. The Patron Coalition of Library Lovers (PCLL) was formed then to support workers threatened with layoffs.

The library and its staff need the public to show up in support.

Action 1: Attend the Board of Trustees meeting Wednesday, July 22, 5:30pm via Zoom here, using this agenda. Or attend in person at the Tumwater Library, holding a small sign. Either way, show up to demonstrate public support for the library and workers and hear comments from members of the union and the public at large.

Take these Indivisible National Actions

1. Email your Members of Congress and urge them to hold the line and not give another dime to fund Trump’s illegal war with Iran. After launching a disastrous war with Iran against the will of the American people (and without the authorization of Congress) Trump is now seeking $87 billion from our tax-dollars to pay for it. Congress has passed War Powers Resolutions rebuking the regime over this illegal war. But that means little if they now vote to fund it.

2. Email your Members of Congress and urge them to reject right-wing plans to deepen US-Israeli military entanglement and insulate the Netanyahu government from accountability. The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) moves through Congress each year, giving lawmakers an opportunity to sneak in other policies that would not typically pass on their own. This year, Congress is being asked to consider provisions that would enable even deeper entrenchment of the Trump-Netanyahu military relationship, while shielding it from typical congressional oversight — even as Netanyahu sabotages ceasefire efforts and continues gross human rights abuses in the West Bank and Gaza. This is bad policy that should not be passed into law.

3. If you have a Democratic senator, call and urge them to OPPOSE a toothless CLARITY ACT, and push for real crypto regulation instead. Financial disclosures show that Trump has profited from his crypto coins to the tune of a billion dollars since leaving office. It’s some of the most startling corruption in presidential history -- but somehow Congress is advancing a “crypto regulation” bill that would not address it -- or address other critical consumer protection and corruption issues around cryptocurrency. 78 House Dems helped pass the CLARITY Act last year -- our senators can’t make the same mistake.

4. Prepare for Trump’s attempts to undermine the midterm elections by joining Hands Off Our Vote, Indivisible’s new program to ensure that 1) every voter can cast their ballot and 2) every vote is counted. You may have heard us say that we’re getting in “election protection formation,” and you can join us! By signing up, you’ll hear about key voting deadlines in your state, learn updates on threats to voting rights and how to counter them, and how to mobilize in case any election sabotage comes our way.

Protect Your Privacy and Freedom of Speech from the KIDS Act

H.R. 7757, the Kids Internet and Digital Safety Act, has cleared the House and will threaten everyone’s privacy and freedom of speech if passed by the Senate.

The House bill is less strict than the Senate version, S. 1748: it mandates “reasonable policies, practices, and procedures” rather than the Senate bill’s stricter “duty of care.” But both bills, according to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, threaten online privacy and freedom of speech: “While supporters continue to claim this bill protects minors online, its requirements come at the expense of privacy, free expression, and the ability of people of all ages to use the internet without revealing sensitive data.”

Action: Urge your Senators, especially Maria Cantwell, to oppose H.R. 7757 and S. 1748.

Script (please personalize): As a Washingtonian, I’m concerned about the threats to privacy and freedom of speech from H.R. 7757, the KIDS Act, recently passed by the House. Under the guise of protecting children and teens, H.R. 7757 and its lookalike S. 1748 would pressure platforms to enforce restrictive moderation policies on broad categories of lawful speech. Many platform providers will choose to simply remove that speech, or restrict those discussions to spaces where they can be sure only adults can participate — and to establish that they’re adults, users will have to compromise their privacy. I urge you to oppose both bills.

Olympia City Council: Protect Our Workers

From the Olympia Indivisible Unions and Worker Justice Team

Last September, Olympia Indivisible members overwhelmingly supported the Workers’ Bill of Rights, which calls for a $20/hour minimum wage (Washington’s minimum is currently $17.13/hour). Other provisions include:

• requiring large employers to provide fair schedules, as defined in law, and fourteen days’ notice of schedules to employees;

• requiring employers to offer extra hours to employees before hiring additional staff;

• creating new workplace safety laws

The City Council had voted 4-3 against supporting the bill in October. The initiative was sent to Olympia residents in November, where it was narrowly defeated.

Next Tuesday the Olympia City Council meeting will include a presentation announcing that a work group has been formed related to the Workers’ Bill of Rights. This presentation is likely to include an announcement of the scope of issues under consideration and the groups who will participate in the discussion.

Thanks to those who have so generously donated food and essential hygiene products during our past Olympia Indivisible Immigrant Family Food Drives. We are reaching out to you again to help us stock the nonprofit immigrant pantry. The pantry is just about bare and needs your support. The federal government has made many Spanish-speaking families afraid to go shopping for essentials.

No Hate in WA State: Fight Bigotry with Music, Dance, and Phone Banking

MAGA mega-donor Brian Heywood is bankrolling two poorly written initiatives to remove common sense protections for child abuse victims and LGBTQ+ youth: IL26-001, which would restricts student access to help for depression, sexual assault, domestic violence, bullying, and other challenges; and IL26-638, which would subject girls in sports to invasive, medically unnecessary, and potentially harmful genital exams to verify their sex.

No Hate in WA State is staging phone banks on Sunday July 5 4-6pm and Wednesday July 8, 5-7pm, and staging a No Hate! Music and Contra Dance Festival at the Friends Meeting House in Olympia Saturday, July 11, 11:30am - 10pm.

1. Join an Indivisible phonebank for Julie Gonzales (CO-Senate) Monday, June 29 (4:30pm PT). We’ll be joined by Indivisible’s co-executive director Ezra Levin for Monday’s phonebank!

2. Continue to urge your Members of Congress to demand dignity for detained immigrants at Delaney Hall and detention centers across the US. Just last week, Members of Congress were denied access to immigrants detained at Delaney Hall during an oversight visit after previously being allowed to speak with people inside. We must insist that Members of Congress do everything in their power to escalate their oversight actions and bring attention to the horrifying conditions and human rights abuses at Delaney Hall and Trump’s concentration camps around the country.

3. Keep calling your US senators and urge them to oppose AI mass surveillance. FISA, an infamous spying law that opened the door for warrantless surveillance of American citizens, expired earlier this month. Unless our Members of Congress want to be complicit in the continued chilling of our freedom of speech, they must hold the line for our civil liberties.

Seventeen Republican states have rolled back labor protections for minors in the last five years. Vulnerable children are working in hazardous conditions and struggling in school. The Trump administration has almost quit enforcing existing child labor laws. Children who came to the US unaccompanied are among the exploited.

We need powerful laws to crack down on unscrupulous employers and protect children. Senator Patty Murray is a sponsor of the CHILD Labor Act, which will demand accountability from giant corporations, authorize the Secretary of Labor to issue stop-work orders, increase civil and criminal penalties, and annually report children’s injuries, illness, and deaths to Congress.

Urge our Members of Congress to support Senator Murray’s bill and work with the 119th Congressional Child Labor Bills coalition.

The day after Postmaster General David Steiner told Congress that the US Postal Service would refuse to deliver ballots in states that didn’t turn over their voter rolls to the Trump regime, a federal judge enjoined Steiner from carrying out Trump’s order, handing Washington, Oregon, California, and other states a huge victory.

“The President’s attempt to seize control of our elections by selectively refusing to deliver mail-in ballots was unconstitutional and dangerous ­— and the court was right to strike it down,” said Washington State Attorney General Nick Brown. The entire Democratic Senate caucus meanwhile had sent Steiner a letter reinforcing that message and demanding that he withdraw USPS’ absurd rule.

Support Climate-Friendly Buildings

A critical transition is underway that will have a resounding impact on the future of our built environment: accelerating the efficiency in our residential and commercial energy codes. American buildings are responsible for a whopping 40 percent of US greenhouse gas emissions.

Washington state has a chance to enact the best residential and commercial building codes in the nation this year! In the next few months, Washington’s State Building Code Council is preparing updates for residential and commercial building codes, and the council is considering a statewide air conditioning to heat pump replacement standard for new and existing buildings. These codes would encourage homes and businesses to adopt high efficiency heat pumps instead of old-style air conditioning.

We’re re-running this item from May 31 as a reminder: Washington’s vote-by-mail system is vulnerable to one simple trick.

Primary elections are coming! It’s time to make sure your voter registration is in order. Before July 27, go to vote.wa.gov and register or freshen up your registration; subscribe to ballot status texts so you’ll be notified if any of your information is changed, with or without your knowledge.

With enough of your personal information, anyone can change your address and get your ballot sent hundreds of miles away. That’s a felony, but offenders are unlikely to be caught – and you don’t want to wait till Election Day to start fixing it.

Model Call To Action

Here’s the anatomy of a real-life Call To Action item. Use it as a guide to create your own. There are six parts: title, graphic, background, body, action, and script. Here are the details:

Title: A short, action-oriented phrase, in Heading 3 style.

Graphic: If you don’t have one, that’s OK, the CTA Team can find one. If you have one:

• Make sure it’s a usable size – about 400x600px

• Include alt-text for vision-impaired readers.

• Include a caption with credits and permission information. This can get thorny, so if you’re not absolutely sure you have rights, don’t use it.

Background: Where you got your facts, or where people can learn more. For aesthetics and clarity, use Ctrl-K to put your link under some text.

Body: explain the issue in briefly – aim for 100 words.

Action: What do you want readers to do?

Don’t bother with elected officials’ contact information. The CTA team keeps track of that stuff, and pasting it in from one source document keeps it reliable and clean-looking, so just say who to contact. If the contact is a business or a sign-on letter from an organization, please include that information and/or link.

Script: Make it short but specific: make your position clear, identify the issue or proposed legislation clearly, and briefly explain your position.

Timberland Regional Library (TRL) is no place for political games. Its 29 branches in Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, and Thurston counties serve over half a million people; along with books to lend, TRL offers adult and children’s programs, computers with internet connections, digitized resources, research materials, community meeting spaces, and a safe place for everyone. Trained librarians tend each branch and help patrons find what they need and make full use of what they find.

Now TRL is experiencing a budget shortfall. Although costs have risen steadily and funding from property taxes is limited by law, TRL administration made no attempt to raise funds after a failed levy lid lift in 2009. The seriousness of the shortfall came to public attention in January 2026. The Patron Coalition of Library Lovers (PCLL) was formed then to support workers threatened with layoffs.

The seven members of the TRL Board of Trustees are appointed by the County Commissioners of the five counties – one from each county, plus one additional trustee each from Lewis and Thurston counties. This week, the five counties’ Commissioners will meet to discuss restoring stability to the library system.

Make the Trump Administration Uphold Professional Nursing Care

Background:

• Trump administration says nursing isn’t a professional degree amid new limits on loans

• Senator Gillibrand Pushes to Protect Graduate Education Programs that Create Critical Workforce Pipelines

Trump’s new student loan rule cuts into nurses’ abilities to obtain professional graduate degrees. They’re now defined as “not professional,” meaning they can’t borrow enough to obtain the expensive education required. This rule will greatly degrade healthcare in rural areas, where people depend on advanced degree nurses to diagnose illnesses and prescribe medication.

It’s a critical problem, requiring a concerted response. On June 9, some progress was made: the House Appropriations Committee passed an amendment to the FY 2027 budget reasserting professional status for advanced degree nurses. Lawsuits have also been filed in federal court by some states, including Washington. And Senator Kristen Gillibrand is sponsoring a bill to ensure nursing graduate students will not be penalized.

Urge our Members of Congress to actively work to protect the future of our professional nurse workforce.

Don’t Let the US Postal Service Hold Up Your Vote

Eight states — mostly blue states like ours — vote by mail. Donald Trump hates that, and wants the US Postal Service to interfere with it. Under proposed rules designed to comply with an executive order issued last March, the USPS would deliver federal election ballots only to voters whose names and addresses appear on lists compiled from information provided by states. Will that do anything but delay our ballots? What else could go wrong?

Secretary of State Steve Hobbs says this rule “does nothing to provide security in our elections… We’re seeing federal overreach that threatens to undermine the rights of eligible voters and override states’ authority over elections.”

Get ICE Out of Your Café

Your local businesses may already be nervous about ICE raids disrupting business and taking away valued employees. You can help them use the Fourth Amendment – the right to be secure from unreasonable searches and seizures – to stop ICE at their door. Fourth Amendment Workplaces is an initiative of Siembra NC to ensure our workplaces and communities are safe places to work and raise a family. Originally developed for North Carolina, this campaign has been adapted by volunteers across the country.

It takes a village to make a parade! Here’s how you can help make Olympia Pride a shining success:

Action 1: Help install Pride AND Juneteenth Flags in Olympia. Rainbow Community Arts seeks five able-bodied people who can walk a couple miles and take turns climbing a ladder to install the flags. Must wear sturdy shoes, no sandals. Assembly locations TBA. The work dates are:

Join us at the Detention Center in Tacoma on Saturday, June 20!

The Northwest Detention Center is a privately run immigration detention facility located in Tacoma. There have been over 3,500 complaints of neglect, cruelty, ignored medical emergencies, contaminated food, unsanitary conditions and assault by staff. This is why the State of Washington is suing the private operator of this facility to force compliance with state health and safety inspections.

Background: Governor, Attorney General Seek Court Order to Permit Health Inspections at Northwest ICE Detention Center

Action: Join us on Saturday, June 20, 1–3pm, to demonstrate that even though this place is tucked away and isolated, we are not ignoring it. We will be joining La Resistencia. The address is 1623 E. J Street, Tacoma, a 40-minute drive from the State Capitol. You can meet us there at 12:50pm or contact Diane at (206) 276-5361 to carpool. Look for people wearing OI buttons. La Resistencia is a grassroots immigrant-led group that supports and engages with people detained at the NW Detention Center. Their goal is to shut down NW Detention Center and to end all detentions and deportations in Washington state.

Note that La Resistencia has a monthly protest at the Detention Center and we must be respectful of their work and follow their lead; they have been involved for 12 years and any negative impacts from what happens at the Detention Center will impact their work and the people in detention.

FISA Section 702 Renewal, Unqualified DNI Appointment Fail – For Now

Last week we told Congress not to renew FISA Section 702 unless privacy safeguards were added and unqualified acting Director of National Intelligence Bill Pulte was removed. Congress paid attention: House Republicans could not get enough votes to extend Section 702 before a scheduled recess intervened, and it’s now expired; Pulte’s appointment has been withdrawn. Congress still has to fix Section 702, and Trump has instead appointed Jim Clayton as DNI; so it’s a win, but not the game. Next week, we’ll be at it again.

Indivisible National Actions:

Remove Trump’s Unqualified & Dangerous National Intelligence Director

Trump’s new acting Director of National Intelligence, Bill Pulte, has no intelligence experience. He got the job for his willingness to go after Trump’s adversaries: Senator Adam Schiff, NY Attorney General Letitia James, and Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook.

As acting Director of National Intelligence, Pulte has enormous power: He can weaponize surveillance, push agencies he oversees to conduct unlawful spying, provide politically motivated surveillance directly to Trump, even declassify or leak information acquired illegally.

Congress can’t block “acting” appointments, but it has leverage right now: Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) will expire on June 12, and Trump is obsessed with getting it reauthorized. Congress should refuse to reauthorize until Pulte is removed. Even then, it should pass the law only with guardrails to protect Americans from warrantless surveillance.

Solidarity with Hunger Strikers: Demand Congressional Action Against Trump’s Mass Detention Regime

At ICE’s Delaney Hall detention facility in Newark, NJ, people are living in horrifying conditions: contaminated food, foul water, no access to health care. Conditions have been so desperate that four people have broken through the walls to escape. Members of Congress have attempted to exercise their legal authority to see what was happening inside the detention center. ICE blocked them; US Senator Andy Kim was pepper-sprayed.

From coast to coast people are hunger striking against the horrific conditions in multiple detention centers. Congress must use every power it has to demand dignity for immigrants.

Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. For those of us who love democracy and First Amendment freedoms, June 14th is a good day to renew our commitment to No Kings, No Dictators.

Olympia Indivisible is very busy right now. We’re following up on our May 28th all-member gathering, launching three new teams and onboarding new members into our core teams. We are also gearing up for our annual All-Member Saturday, June 20th Candidate Endorsement Presentation which will take place in person at the Olympia Center at 10am. Federal Actions:

Congress Must Support Domestic Violence Victims

Background:

• Safe for Survivors Act

• Security and Financial Empowerment (SAFE)

An astonishing number of American women–about one in four — experience violence from an intimate partner during their lifetimes. The consequences are often severe: long recovery periods, loss of economic security, and difficulty providing for their families. Senator Murray has led the Senate in introducing the SAFE for Survivors Act, which guarantees economic security to domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assault victims.

Women in the US are 28 times more likely to be murdered by intimate partners wielding guns on the job than in other high-income countries. Ten Senators recognize this level of violence is a crisis and have signed onto the bill, but the House has not acted.

Action 1: Urge Representatives Marilyn Strickland and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez to actively promote the Safe for Survivors Act in the House.

You have worked on their behalf in the past, and the Safe for Survivors Act is seriously needed now. Don’t Let the US Postal Service Hold Up Your Vote

Background:

• Proposed rule change

• Secretary of State Steve Hobbs’ comments

Eight states — mostly blue states like ours — vote by mail. Donald Trump hates that, and wants the US Postal Service to interfere with it. Under proposed rules designed to comply with an executive order issued last March, the USPS would deliver federal election ballots only to voters whose names and addresses appear on lists compiled from information provided by states. Will that do anything but delay our ballots? What else could go wrong?

Secretary of State Steve Hobbs says this rule “does nothing to provide security in our elections… We’re seeing federal overreach that threatens to undermine the rights of eligible voters and override states’ authority over elections.”

Action 1: Email your comment by July 2 to PCFederalRegister@usps.gov, subject line “Ballot Mail“

Script (please personalize): Proposed rule “91 FR 32915 - Ballot Mail for Federal Elections” should be rejected. The constitution clearly gives states authority over elections; no federal agency may interfere, even with the best intentions. The rule change as a whole is not only a constitutional overreach but an unfunded mandate: it increases some states’ costs of running elections without providing money to compensate.

Sections DMM 705.24.2, DMM 705.24.4, and DMM 705.24.5 are particularly troubling: they appoint the USPS, a federal agency, as an election gatekeeper:

• DMM 705.24.5 mentions “a verification procedure for compliance with the proposed standards prior to acceptance [of election mail]. The verification process by the Postal Service would confirm that a state submitted a list consistent with the conditions laid out in the proposed rule” (emphasis added). I.e., the USPS could effectively disenfranchise all of a state’s voters simply by finding fault with that states’ list.

• DMM 704.25.2 sets up procedures for states to provide USPS with names and addresses of eligible mail-in voters. But USPS doesn’t need lists; all it needs is standardized and properly addressed ballot mailpieces. There is likewise no reason for states “to notify the Postal Service of their intent to use the mail to facilitate their election processes.” Eight states now conduct elections by mail. That’s no secret. The details are all publicized by state election officers, who will gladly tell USPS how many mailpieces to expect at each post office.

• DMM 705.24.4 promises that the states’ lists of mail-in voters “will evidence how many ballots have been mailed, and allow law enforcement officials to compare the total number of mailed ballots to the total number of received ballots to detect … issues meriting further investigation.” But lists aren’t needed to do that. It can be done with current USPS mail tracking, especially with the enhanced election mailpiece rules laid out in Section DMM 705.24.3.

• How secure is the postal service’s system? How often will it update its list and how long will a system update take?

• Adding all this red tape to ballot mail processing will, at best, do nothing but delay ballot delivery and increase the costs borne by states. At worst, it will disenfranchise eligible voters.

This is, as Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs says, “federal overreach that threatens to undermine the rights of eligible voters and override states’ authority over elections.”

Action 2: Tell your Members of Congress to oppose this unconstitutional rule change.

WA State Actions:

Prep, Connect, and Speak Up for Wildlife

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has killed more than 50 state-endangered wolves on behalf of beef producers, allows roughly 2000 beavers to be killed yearly, and has permitted the killing of approximately 1500 cougars in the last five years, all according to policy set by the Washington Fish & Wildlife Commission – which is meeting Thursday through Saturday, June 11-13, at the Natural Resources Building in Olympia.

The Commission needs to hear from people who care about a future where wildlife can thrive. Your presence matters even if you don’t testify.

To make participation easy, Washington Wildlife First and the Northwest Animal Rights Network (NARN) are co-hosting a Virtual Testimony-Preparation Workshop on Tuesday, June 9, 6-7pm. . Learn how to craft effective testimony, how to register to speak, and what to expect, whether you’re attending in person or virtually.

Action 2 (optional): Join WWF and NARN between 5-7 pm on Friday, June 12, at Three Magnets Brewing Co. in Olympia for a drink, good conversation, and a chance to connect with others who care about wildlife and want to be part of the movement.

House passes resolution to end Iran war, challenging Trump

Last Wednesday saw a signal defeat for the Trump regime: House lawmakers passed legislation to force President Trump to end the Iran war. The vote was 215-208, with four Republicans joining all the Democrats. We don’t get much good news from this Congress, and we probably won’t get good news from the Senate on this, but Democrats uniting and Republicans defecting are two pieces of good news.

Indivisible National Actions:

Keep the Pressure On: No Additional Funding for ICE and Border Patrol

Republicans were supposed to vote last weekend on their reconciliation bill, which would have given billions more to ICE and Border Patrol. But public pressure cracked party unity: members expressed concern over the lack of guardrails on ICE and Border Patrol, some objected to family separation policies, and votes to pass it by the deadline wavered and disappeared. Then, backlash over Trump’s $1.776 billion slush fund turned the cracks into chasms. The vote had to be punted until after the recess.

The delay is a win, but the fight isn’t over. When Congress comes back in June, Republicans will get another chance to pass this funding. We need to keep organizing to deepen the divides in the GOP, turn the heat up on vulnerable Congressmembers, and ensure ICE and Border Patrol don’t get a single penny in additional funding.

While we work to block the reconciliation bill, we also need our Members of Congress to respond to the immediate crisis that immigrants in detention centers are already facing.

Action 1: Call your representative and demand they investigate ICE’s detention facilities, expose the conditions that immigrants are facing, and block any additional funding for ICE and Border Patrol.

Action 2: Call both of your senators and demand the same. Then, encourage your friends and neighbors to call their Members of Congress, too.

Protect Trans Kids: Stop HR 2616

Background: House passes “Don’t Say Trans” bill that would force teachers to out trans students nationwide

HR 2616, the “Don’t Say Trans” bill passed by the House May 20 and now headed for the Senate, would require public schools that receive federal funds to ask parents’ permission before using transgender students’ preferred names and pronouns. There are no exceptions for potentially abusive situations. The bill also forbids schools to “teach or advance concepts related to gender ideology” – i.e., that trans and intersex people exist. Apparently it’s not enough to use the deadnames and the wrong pronouns; trans children must also be taught to erase themselves.

Stop the Authoritarian Attack on Science

Background:

• It’s the End of American Science As We Know It

• Summary of Key Changes in OMB’s Proposed Federal Financial Assistance Rule

On May 29 the White House Office of Management and Budget announced a new attack on science: a move from a system based on peer review and evidence to one based on political patronage. Political appointees will determine whose projects get funded, with no research on climate change, none by or about minorities, none by scientists with the wrong political affiliations.

The impact will be global: the US has historically led the world in scientific research. Universities will muzzle their research units for their own protection; professional societies will self-censor or shrink as the government takes absolute control over conference attendance.

Action: By July 13, submit your comments to the OMB. Copy your comments to your Members of Congress.

Script (please personalize; include section numbers): The proposed changes would significantly damage scientific research in our country, in turn damaging our economy and our national well-being.

• §200.204 would allow agency heads to exempt grant competitions from public notice. I.e., proposals for allocating public money for the public good could be kept from the public. There is no legitimate reason for such “no-bid” research funding.

• §200.205 would take grant decision-making away from peer review and program officers and give it to political appointees – who would be required to reject applications that fail to conform to the President’s ideology; only “politically correct” research could be funded. This section also requires compliance with “Gold Standard Science” – a concept never clearly defined, obviously a one-size-fits-all justification for rejecting applications.

• §200.206 is positively Orwellian: applications may be rejected if an applicant is affiliated with any organizations that “undermine public safety or national security.” Given that the President has described the Democratic Party as “the enemy within,” this would effectively restrict funding to the radical right.

• §200.220 would inhibit international collaboration. It’s reasonable to rule out collaboration with some countries, but a rule as sweeping as this would disrupt international partnerships that have been foundational to US leadership in fields from climate science and astrophysics to genomics and epidemiology.

• §200.300 is bigoted and overly broad, prohibiting “DEI” (diversity, equity, and inclusion – as if those were bad things), insisting on adherence to a “biological reality” no more real than the geocentric universe Galileo challenged, and tyrannically extending those provisions beyond grantees to their sponsoring institutions, even if no grant funds are involved.

• §200.421 would stifle public disclosure of research findings. There is no legitimate reason for this.

• §200.461 would similarly stifle publication in scientific journals. Publishing your procedures and results is how science works; if you don’t have that, you don’t have science.

In short, the new rules constitute a deadly attack on science and democracy. Their adoption would be the death knell for scientific research in our country.

Elections are Coming – Check Your Registration

Primary elections are coming! It’s time to make sure your voter registration is in order. Before July 27, go to vote.wa.gov and register or freshen up your registration; subscribe to ballot status texts so you’ll be notified if any of your information is changed, with or without your knowledge.

With enough of your personal information, anyone can change your address and get your ballot sent hundreds of miles away. That’s a felony, but offenders are unlikely to be caught – and you don’t want to wait till Election Day to start fixing it.

Stand Up for Public Health During Seven Days in June

Seven Days in June is a decentralized, nonpartisan, grassroots-driven campaign to focus media attention on how funding cuts, as well as policy and regulatory changes, will devastate communities. It serves as a “national call to elevate Health as a governing priority.”

Budget cuts to Medicaid, and the Centers for Disease Control and National Institutes of Health, are threats to the health of all Americans. Republicans in Congress passed these bills so any cuts they passed last year will not go into effect until after this fall’s election, when they will cause severe local economic damage, the loss of over a million jobs, billions in reduced tax revenues and lost state GDP.

To help shine a spotlight on the impacts of the MAGA federal health cuts, from June 1 to June 7 local organizations and advocates from across the country will demand that federal, state and local representatives clearly articulate how they will:

• Improve affordability and access to care and treatment.

• Sustain and strengthen biomedical research.

• Protect and modernize domestic and global public health infrastructure.

• Provide stability for seniors, veterans, rural communities, people with disabilities, working families and others reliant on accessible, affordable healthcare.

Olympia Indivisible is not independently organizing events for Seven Days in June, but we are promoting events that you can join from wherever you are. The goal is to strengthen a civic expectation that health must be treated as a core governing responsibility, regardless of ideology or party.

Tell Congress: End the Illegal Blockade on Cuba

Since January the Trump administration has imposed an energy blockade on Cuba, with devastating results. Hospitals, schools, public transit, water infrastructure, and the electrical grid are in critical condition; surgeries, food distribution, garbage collection, and emergency services have been disrupted. The US is committing an economic assault to destabilize Cuba, making it available for “taking,” as Trump put it.

Congress cannot remain silent. We call on Members of Congress to:

• Oppose unauthorized military action against Cuba.

• Block funding for escalation, intervention, or regime-change operations.

• Push to end sanctions and fuel restrictions that collectively punish the Cuban people.

• Demand diplomacy, humanitarian relief, and respect for Cuban sovereignty.

Tell Congress: End the Illegal War on Iran

We’re making progress: both House Democrats and the Senate advanced resolutions last week to force President Trump to withdraw from the Iran war, and House Republican leaders knew they couldn’t defeat them.

The House had scheduled a vote on the Democrats’ war powers resolution, but as it became clear that Republicans would not have the numbers to defeat it, GOP leaders declined to hold a vote. Likewise, faced with the Senate’s war powers resolution, House leadership struggled to find the votes to defeat it, then delayed votes until June. We’ll be back!

Tell Congress: Block Trump’s 1.8 Billion Slush Fund

The Department of Justice has announced the creation of a “1.776” billion slush fund to reward January 6 rioters charged and convicted by the “weaponized” justice system. Commissioners hand-picked by the president would have total control of eligibility for payouts. Worse yet, the henchmen at DOJ have included language giving permanent protection from prosecution or tax audits for Trump and his family.

This is not just yet another brazen attempt at stealing public funds to reward Trump’s cronies, it is unconstitutional: only Congress has the power of the purse. Congress must reassert that power and block the creation of this slush fund.

Billions in Funding Freezes Coming to Medicaid and Medicare

The Trump administration has announced it’s expanding a Medicaid freezing effort to all 50 states. President Trump said Vice President Vance’s new anti-fraud task force will focus primarily on “Blue States.”

Senators say the administration’s threats are a direct attack on older Americans, adults with disabilities, children, and Medicaid workers who deliver essential home-based care.

More freezes are coming. Dr. Oz, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administrator, has announced a freeze on all new Medicaid and Medicare providers of hospice and home health services. Letters are informing the states that if they don’t aggressively prosecute Medicaid fraud, they will lose federal funding.

Salmon and steelhead are integral to the environment, economy, and culture of the Northwest – supporting many Tribal communities, 140+ species of animals, countless ecosystems, and robust commercial and sportfishing industries. Investments in salmon recovery and habitat restoration are investments in our communities.

The process for determining federal funding for fiscal year 2027 is underway – and the Six Sovereigns (Oregon, Washington, and the four lower Columbia River Treaty Tribes) have finalized their recommendations. As in previous years, the recommendations focus on funding habitat protection and restoration, water quality, and upgrades to hatcheries and other actions that help salmon in the near term.

Call for Inspections and an End to Abuse at the ICE Northwest Detention Center

Background:

• A Detention Center Exposed

• Scrapping the Standards: As ICE lowers Detention Standards, Documents Reveal Gaps in Accountability for Sexual Abuse

On April 28, Governor Bob Ferguson and Attorney General Nick Brown announced legal action against the GEO Group, the company that owns and operates the Northwest ICE Processing Center. They are asking that the court order GEO Group to allow inspectors from the state Department of Public Health to make sure it is following state law. The inspectors have been turned away ten times, including twice when an appeals court had affirmed the agency’s authority to inspect the facility.

There is urgency to investigate, given 3,500 complaints from detainees about conditions in the facility, including reports of rotten or insect-infested food, unclean water, unsanitary conditions. and more than a hundred complaints of assault. Two detainees have died, and six more have attempted suicide since 2024. And GEO Group has been given a new temporary contract which lowers the standards.

Let’s Go WA Is At It Again — Decline to Sign

Let’s Go WA is trying to get between you and your ballot. It’s promoting Initiative IP26-500 to require all voters to have an enhanced drivers’ license or provide documentary proof of US citizenship in person in order to register. Voters who fail to do so would see their registration put on hold and would not be sent ballots or election materials.

This is vote suppression masquerading as fraud prevention. In reality, even the conservative Heritage Foundation was unable to find any significant amount of vote fraud in the United States. Voter ID is like setting up checkpoints at every intersection to stop people smuggling ferrets.

The CLARITY Act (H.R. 3633), a bill disguised as “crypto regulation” but which actually serves the billionaires and bad actors at the center of today’s crypto chaos, passed the House last year. For the second year in a row, Tribal Community Universities are facing federal budget cuts. Donald Trump’s 2027 Department of the Interior budget request would eliminate all dedicated funding for all TCUs. This is illegal: most of the money is mandated by treaties with Native American tribes or individuals. And it’s unwise: in the 2022-23 fiscal year these schools generated $3.8 billion in economic growth and supported more than 40,700 jobs across key sectors; every federal dollar invested in TCUs returns $1.60 in tax revenue. For legal, ethical, and practical reasons, we must continue funding these institutions.

Get Money Out of Politics in Washington State

Background: Addressing Questions Surrounding Hawai’i’s Bold Move To Undo Citizens United

The Supreme Court’s 5-4 ruling in Citizens United in 2010, which held that laws restricting the political spending of corporations and unions violate the First Amendment, opened the floodgates of unlimited money in politics, allowing large corporations to wield disproportionate political power. But there may be a way states like Washington can stop it here.

In Hawai’i, S.B. 2471 would no longer grant artificial entities, including corporations, the power to spend money in Hawaii’s politics. It has passed both chambers with overwhelming bipartisan support and is in conference committee now, one step away from Governor Josh Green’s (D) desk.

This is not about free speech. It’s about redefining corporate entities.

In April, the Montana Supreme Court dismissed a challenge from business and industry groups to a ballot initiative to limit corporate spending in Montana elections. Organizers behind the Transparent Election Initiative were cleared to begin gathering signatures to put I-194, Ballot Issue 10, on the November ballot.

Action: Ask your State representatives to sponsor a bill like Hawai’i’s S.B. 2471 to undo Citizens United at the state level.

Urge Democrats to Fiercely Oppose the New GOP Effort to Shovel Billions More Dollars to ICE and Border Patrol

(Yes, you saw something like this last week — this bill is still active in the House and we still need to stop it).

Even after reports that staff at Camp East Montana, near El Paso, have been betting on which detainees would commit suicide first, Republicans want to give ICE and Border Patrol over $70 billion more to fund their concentration camps and militarized deployments to our cities.

Congressional Democrats have held the line – because we told them to. They need to be told again: block funding until the abuse stops. These agencies need investigations and trials, not more money.

Tell Congress to Say No to Warrantless AI Mass Surveillance

Congress voted April 30 to continue federal abuse of privacy under Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) — but only for 45 days. We still have a chance to persuade our Representatives to stop warrantless surveillance that just happens to include US citizens, protect the rights of minorities and dissidents, and preserve our First Amendment rights.

Two notorious loopholes must be closed: the backdoor search loophole, which allows warrantless searches of our emails and text messages; and the data broker loophole, which allows law enforcement to purchase from private companies information they could not collect legally.

The wealthiest Americans don’t pay their fair share. Low- and middle-income Americans pay taxes based on their incomes. But the richest can take advantage of Republican-created tax loopholes to shield wealth over $50 million or create protected $50 million trusts.

Meanwhile millions of Americans have lost Medicaid, SNAP, and other benefits under Trump’s Big Ugly Bill.

Senator Murray has introduced the Fair Trusts for Fiscal Responsibility Act to enforce trust requirements on the rich, and Representative Jayapal has re-introduced the Ultra-Millionaire Tax Act, HR 8085, to target those with over $50 million in wealth. These bills would generate between $675 billion and $6.2 trillion over the next 10 years— enough, for example, to pay for lowering costs for families, restoring Medicaid, and slashing child poverty.

Trump and Secretary of Education Linda McMahon’s changes to the PSLF program, scheduled to take effect July 1, allow the Secretary of Education to exclude borrowers from PSLF eligibility if they work for any organizations or institutions whose values are considered contradictory to the Trump administration’s far-right dogma. Many of the “illegal” programs this order targets are nonprofits that support immigrants, LGBTQ+ youth, racial and social equity, reproductive health care, and survivors of gender-based violence. With the 2026 elections approaching, the threat is clear: Trump wants to seize and hold power by keeping people from voting and controlling who counts. This is a moment to get ready—to build skills, deepen strategy, and expand our networks.

This free, interactive training will leave you with a clearer sense of strategy, a stronger community, and practical ways to take action:
