is your life a stage? even if it is, who is the audience?

mobile applications has made it very easy, to put you on a constant state of performance. so your life becomes a competition. your relationships become a competition. and you unconsciously loop through in this constant state of a cycle.

it runs deeper. you start performance in your relationships with the ones you’re allowed to naturally bloom. you start relating to social media posts when you feel a certain way, and slowly, it makes it your reality.

it’s very easy for you to feel worse, when, for example, you have a humane fight with a friend, and ‘relatable’ social media posts powered through algorithms to make you feel relatable, show how all friendships are flawed, which you relate, and with reinforcement, it becomes your belief and identify. that’s the extent to which feeding performance, not just from you, but even from people you don’t know or don’t talk to, may influence in the way you operate at a certain frequency.

this alters your consciousness and state of being, it alters the way your frequency resonates, slowly spirals down to fear, rather than your deep and highly powered vibrations of love. before you realize what really happened, you’ll spiral way down towards fear.

you start competing. for attention, for relatability, for feeding the loop with the vibrations of fear and adding fuel to the fear. a fearful experience with an individual 7292 miles away can be felt by you in an instant. however, your love may never reach someone 72 m apart.

once love does reaches you, you’ll start comparing. you’ll start comparing someone’s success, someone’s new relationship, and continue to feel bad about your current state. a perfect stage for fear to continuously overpower you even with tiny bits of resistance of love being thrown by someone close you know.

how do you get out of performance and come back to presence

so how do you become present?

a. cut the loop.

drop everything the crowd is doing or believing.

have your own beliefs. if the crowd says the world is full of fear, rebel and say, my world is full of love. if the crowd says the world is in war, rebel and say, my world is moving towards peace. if the crowd says the world has no more love, rebel and say, my world is full of love and my love is moving towards me as we speak.

how do you find this? watch your language - statements like: “this is how I am” , “i do these things”, or “these things happen to me”, “this is just how I feel”, or watch what you are sorry for.

a lot of statements we say about ourselves usually give out what we believe in and where we’re putting ourselves down. you don’t have to beat yourself on it, but stay conscious and aware on what your thoughts and words are, and actively work to identify the changes.

watch where you are interrupting your own life.

b. drop everything that’s holding you back.

once you see what does not align with your new belief, drop it. Just do your best to consciously let it go. drop your fears and you’ll automatically rise higher like a hot air balloon.

my journey to drop what’s no longer aligning with my frequency of alignment with the higher self started a few years back. it’s not been easy, and i’ve fallen back multiple times. but you got to keep going. every time you rise, the hold on you weakens. until eventually, you get our of it and truly drop it.

i dropped a couple of social media channels back in the year. i hardly use it now, and use it just to respond to a few posts shared by my close ones over direct chat. im looking to consciously drop one of the last scrollable apps as well, and for sometime, just operate on old school email. read my physical business newspaper in the morning, subscribe to magazines on topics that interests me, scroll emails for good e-newsletters and unsubscribe what no longer resonates, and then read my thick physical books. it keeps me enough to know what’s happening around me on a larger scale rather than feeding on individual fears in social media. closed ones contact me via calls or direct message on my number. life feels easier and at peace, and with a higher trajectory of growth.

c. align with your goals and purpose

once your beliefs shift and you drop what’s holding you back, you can align with your goals and purpose with a lot more ease.

you become present when you align with your own energy. when you recognize who you are. It’s a long journey of healing to go back to yourself, but even with a few tiny shifts, you start to see the changes. you start aligning with your purpose. that’s the goal. to align with the purpose of your soul.

here’s a verse from gita:

कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन ।
मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि ॥

nishkama karma translates directly to action without the desire for personal rewards. this is one of the foundational core to the bhagavad gita. this philosophy shifts your focus from anxiety of future results to the fulfilment of the present action.

the bhagavad gita offers a paradox here: the less you care about applause, the more flawless your work becomes. when you perform for others, you split your energy and focus on doing the job vs worrying what others will think about your job while doing it. when you operate in presence, all of your focus and energy is just focused on the task. you stop procrastinating and lazy, and start creating and building from a space of love.

watch that you don’t fall into a purpose where you feel fear is your purpose. when we don’t have a purpose, we’re usually conflicting and diverging in opinions, in certain methods, and in the ways of our life, based on our understanding. don’t fall for opinions of the masses and make that your purpose. follow opinions that are well informed and backed by data and experiences from someone who has actually been through an outcome. it ties back to how opinions are freely thrown around by influencers or even people operating out of fear, that may influence your own understanding of this beautiful world we live in. always form your opinions with your own due diligence.

d. establish the boundary of agency

when you start acting on your purpose, you will feel overwhelmed by others’ motives. people around you in fear will notice you and would feel uncomfortable (not by your rise but their own limitations of fear). draw a line here to know what belongs to you vs what belongs to the world.

what belongs to you?

the focus you give right now, the integrity of your words, and your preparation and effort, your heart and soul in your work

what belongs to the world?

whether they appreciate your work, their mood, biases, and motives, their final score or evaluation, their likes, the views, the applause, etc.

when you do a task or pour your creativity on a project, accept the task and act as if it is your duty. but refuse to fall on the personal agenda or ego of the world, or to inherit their anxiety. your only job is to step in front of the world with absolute integrity.

e. practice daily rituals for presence

connect with your community. connect with nature. connect with god. act like nature. nature does not perform. it just exists and grows as is.

i’ve always felt a very quite and powerful expression of self love from a lily, which does not need any invitation to bloom. it stays in a bud when watched. I remember back in 2015-2016 when Instagram flooded my feed with spiritual content. My soul back then was desperate to seek these posts. I knew something was off with my then reality where I didn’t feel connected to any operating model of this world.

These posts made me feel seen. In the rabbit hole, I resonated with terms like indigo child, starseed, and spirit science. A breakthrough which led to a series of events and then to an intense spiritual awakening for a good period of a deep and intense transformation.

I remember one such post vividly. It said “You are God or Universe experiencing life on this physical plane”. It made sense back then where I felt this to the core of my being. And now, after all these years, I saw this post again. (talk about synchronicity!). This took me down a spiral.

Krishna says this in Gita too.

सर्वस्य चाहं हृदि संनिविष्टो मत्त: स्मृतिर्ज्ञानमपोहनं च |
"I am seated in the hearts of all living beings, and from Me come memory, knowledge, and forgetfulness."

The phrase hṛdi saṁniviṣṭo (highlighted in yellow) means "deeply entered into the core of the heart." Krishna does not just watch us from afar; He occupies our internal spiritual landscape.

In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna explains that He is the inner consciousness and divine presence residing within all beings. He experiences the world through us by sitting as the Supreme Soul (Paramatma) in our hearts, fueling our thoughts, memory, and perception.

Every time you remember a fact, learn a skill, or even forget a painful memory, that mental movement is powered by the divine. He is the Overseer, the Permitter, the Sustainer, and the Supreme Lord."

While your ego (the Jiva) thinks it is the one tasting food, feeling pain, or enjoying a sunset, the Gita reveals that Krishna is the silent partner tasting it alongside you. He is the ultimate consumer of all sensory experiences. When your physical eyes look at the world, it is the divine consciousness within that actually perceives it.

Let’s picture this quote together. There is a source of light. Let’s assume this source of light to be the Sun. And the same light is in your eyes. Like two eye balls being nothing but small balls of the Sun emitting light.

Now, imagine God to be the same energy. Assume, the Sun is God. The eyes that carries the Sun, is the same God. Your fellow being is also the same God. The rabbit down the hole is the same God. The flower is the same God.

And the same God is experiencing life as a manifestation of you. You finally see oneness.

A spiritual awakening is a jolt to help you see oneness

Don’t confuse oneness with empathy. This is not empathy. This is not relatability. Not feeling close to rabbits and loving animals. Not fighting to save trees or donating to welfare programs in certain continents. You realize most of that is just ego.

Oneness is truly being one with God.

You see all of you. You see all of your fellow beings. You see the kindness in you. You see the kindness in your fellow beings. You see the darkness in you. You see the darkness in your fellow beings. You are the kindness in you and the kindness in your fellow beings. You are the darkness in you and the darkness in your fellow beings.

You see you are the kindness. You see you are the darkness. You see you are the rabbit. You see you are the hole. You see you are the tree.

You see you are the one donating. You see you are the one receiving the donation. You are the money. You are the hungry. You are the well-fed.

You see what God truly is.

This is the same light that helped Siddhartha become Buddha. The same light Krishna or Ram carried and lighted a million souls for thousands of years.

Yet, you see how most of the world is having their eyes closed. Either they are partially awake or completely asleep.

It’s why we’re on Earth, the 3rd dimensional plane. If we all would have our eyes open, we would not have been on Earth. Most likely, as per Gita, we would be in a higher 5th dimensional plane. And awakening and the spiritual path helps you be in the 4D (the path from 3D to 5D).

Here’s what’s mentioned about dimensions and planes in the Gita.

In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna explains that all material dimensions and worlds ranging from the earthly realm (Bhu-loka) to the higher celestial and heavenly spheres (Swarga-loka) up to the highest material abode (Brahma-loka) are temporary places bound by the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth.

ā-brahma-bhuvanāl lokāḥ punar āvartino 'rjuna
mām upetya tu kaunteya punar janma na vidyate

From the highest realm in this material world [up to Brahma-loka] down to the earthly dimension, all are places of repeated suffering and return, O Arjuna. But one who attains My supreme spiritual abode, O son of Kunti, never takes birth again. Those situated in the mode of goodness gradually go upward to the higher dimensions (Urdhva-lokas); those in the mode of passion live in the middle earthly worlds; and those in the mode of ignorance sink down into lower realms or dark states.

Awakening opens your eyes with this Sun in an instant (instantaneous is relative to an individual and their own life and experience). An awakening is like someone throws a bucket of water at you and you’re suddenly wide awake. Your awakening is just a jolt. Like a wake up call.

Awakening helps you meet the bliss of divine, but only for an instant.

Awakening is just a taste or a sip of enlightenment for a brief moment.

Your awakening, at most times, is assisted . You’ll become psychic and you’ll witness the entire existence supporting you. You’ll see this light in everything.

But that’s the problem between an awakening and enlightenment. With enlightenment this switch or this light becomes forever. Like you leave the switch on. And now you’re enlightened.

It is to remind you of who you truly are.

Your awakening cannot hold on to your physical container.

And for most of the people (including gurus from the ages, babas, yogis, sages, wannabe spiritual authors ;) on Substack), this light is difficult to sustain. Because that’s not life or that’s not the purpose of life.

The purpose of life is to help us heal and even with all the darkness there is, it is to choose this light. Even when our eyes go back to being closed or seeing darkness, it is to remember your true nature and go back to light.

And that’s how earth or this physical plane keeps you in the dark. All energy and vibration here in this 3rd dimensional world operates in a frequency that’s maintaining a sustained darkness aka closure of eyes.

Awakening helps you find your own path.

Awakening brings you Realization. Even when your eyes are half open or closed, you remember. You remember the oneness. You remember the divine.

This reminds me of another Instagram quote - Once you’re awake, you can neve go back to sleep.

It makes sense because once you have tasted the love of the divine, you realize there is nothing else that matters. And you start your spiritual transformation journey to go back to opening your eyes. To continue feeling this light. You act blind, seek support take a stick stretch out your hand in darkness.

You fight.

And then you start noticing your own darkness closely. You see the psychological warfare by entities that control this 3D. An awakening helps you come closer to your purpose. You understand you have come here to do spiritual work and you have chosen this plane to rapidly expand your soul’s spiritual journey.

Awakening brings you awareness.

Awareness has been the biggest plus on my spiritual journey. To go in a deeply meditative state with ease and build awareness. Although, it is a muscle I continue to grow, I’d still have self-awareness as one of my biggest strengths in life.

Awareness helps you see your darkness.

You see your kindness, your expanded love, your nature to give, and yet you see the pain. You see the darkness. Your patterns. Your shortcomings. Your trauma. And then you take it up to transform your spiritual journey. You read learn and do the entire inner work. You do your shadow work.

Your notice your energy field. You see the webs and chains of tying your soul down. These chains come in the form of your own toxic patterns. Your past traumas. Your hurts. You remember the times you gave so much and got nothing in return. You see your habits and how they keep you down. You notice your unconscious urges. You see and fully understand the matrix. You notice how this society divides. The cultural Marxism. Abused capitalism.

You understand you are bound within concentric circles of these chains. And you start to break them - one by one. This reminds me about the Japanese concepts of Tori gates.

In Japan, both Shinto and Buddhist gate serve as powerful symbols of transition, each reflecting the distinct spiritual paths of their respective traditions. The torii gate, found at Shinto shrines, marks the boundary between the human world and the divine realm of kami. It symbolizes purification and the warding off of evil spirits, and often feature a simple design. In contrast, Buddhist temples feature gates like the sanmon (main gate), which is typically the most significant gate at a Zen Buddhist temple. The sanmon serves as a guardian against evil while symbolizing entry into a space of spiritual practice and enlightenment. While more elaborate in design, the sanmon shares the same function as the torii gate, separating the sacred from the ordinary. Both gates act as thresholds, guiding worshippers into a realm of spiritual transformation.

Notably, some Buddhist temples incorporate torii gates within their temple grounds, blending Shinto and Buddhist elements in a seamless expression of Japan’s religious syncretism. For example, Buddhist temples like Usa Jingu in Kyushu and Toyokawa Inari Shrine in Aichi feature torii gates in their shrine guides along with Buddhist symbols. In this way, these gates not only demarcate physical space and enrich Japan’s cultural landscape but also reflect the coexistence of Shinto and Buddhism in Japanese spirituality.
<div your daily life with awareness. You start seeking solitude. You start seeing separation with your closed ones. You understand the pain and hurt of people. You develop clairvoyance to see exactly what someone is thinking and you just know.

You start to work on planes and realities that are much beyond what you have consciously experienced.

And that’s how you grow. Awakening brings you this light. Your expanded heart center’s capacity to hold deeper love.

And yet, you see how you are not special at all. You are just another normal human being like everyone else going through and understanding life.

Your awakening does not make you special. It simply aligns you towards your spiritual path.

A lot of people back then who went through an awakening were made to feel special. Your are chosen by God to bring a new revolution to this world. You are the select 144k souls that have sprouted in these times to raise the vibration on planet Earth.

Here’s the truth - no, you’re not. You’re not special. And your awakening does not give you privilege over any other human experience walking the same path as you.

Yes, you may have wisdom, higher consciousness, greater awareness, and a deeper spiritual knowledge. You may have awareness to show kindness instead of darkness. But that does not make you are special.

Your humbling experience is to remember you are still a part of the oneness.

So many souls in India would have never heard of this term. Yet, with unparallel devotion and bhakti yoga, their soul can see their own path towards liberation.

And the goal of the soul is always enlightenment / liberation and to merge with God.

Your awakening is just the first step. Your awakening gives you a glimpse of the divine world. It shows you nothing on this material plane can come close to the bliss of God. And so your awakening only initiates a path - your own spiritual journey of transformation - to seek enlightenment and liberation.

To keep your sunlit eyes open. Forever. For you to rise beyond mediocrity, you need to pay attention.

Allow me to share a story to help you understand what attention can really do.

There was once a great yogi named Mukunda. One fine morning, when he was a boy, he was seated with his elder sister Uma, under a neem tree in Gorakhpur, India. Uma complained of a boil on her leg and fetched a jar of ointment to apply it on her leg. The yogi also applied a heavy dose of it on his forearm. “Why do you use medicine on a healthy arm?”. “Well sis, I feel I am going to have a boil here on my forearm tomorrow. I am testing the medicine on the spot where the boil will appear”.

“Liar!!”.

“Sis, don’t call me a liar until you see what happens in the morning”. Uma was hesitant and continued to call her little brother a liar. The yogi made an adamant resolution in his voice and focused his attention to make a slow and focused statement - “By the power of will in me, I say that tomorrow I shall have a fairly large boil in this exact place on my arm, and your boil shall swell to twice its present size”.

The next morning found the yogi with a stalwart boil on the indicated spot, and the size of Uma’s boil had doubled. Uma was shocked and complained to their mother, who gravely instructed the Yogi to never use the power of words to do harm. Those simple and apparently harmless words spoken with deep focused concentration and attention had possessed sufficient hidden force to produce definite effects. The Yogi understood that the explosive vibratory power in speech could be wisely directed to free one’s life from difficulties. ~ the story is from the book An Autobiography of a Yogi by Parahamansa Yogananda.

Attention is the only true currency. Your attention is directing your consciousness. And expansion of consciousness happens with a focus on depth.

You cannot have a spiritual transformation with mediocrity. You need to have depth for a spiritual evolution.

I’m looking for a deeper meaning to life and to add more depth to my experience. And as someone who practices spirituality, it’s one of the best practices to build a deeper life with depth. Spirituality is one of the best ways to add depth to your life.

Your spirit does not subscribe to the modern declining timeline of the kali yuga.
(Kali Yuga, the fourth and final era in the cycle of Yugas, holds profound significance in Hindu culture. It is characterized by a decline in virtue and an increase in malice, marking a period where moral and spiritual values are said to be at their lowest.).

Your spirit moves at its own pace and time, whether your ego likes it or not. To rise spiritually, you need to observe your daily patterns and spiritual timelines.

What is a spiritual timeline shift? In conventional thinking, time is linear - say past, present, future. But spiritually, time is far more fluid. All possibilities already exist in the quantum field, and your vibration determines which version you step into. When that vibration changes enough, you shift into a timeline that better reflects your highest truth. For a spiritual seeker, a timeline shift is one of the milestones of awakening. It signals that layers of identity, conditioning, and old paths no longer hold you. It invites you to fully step into soul alignment, even if the world around you resists it. Your life becomes an embodiment of your inner evolution- not a tug-of-war between “spiritual you” and “daily you.”

This shift of a spiritual timeline doesn’t require external drama. In fact, the most profound changes often happen with subtle nudges. Your inner state changes first, and your outer world gradually catches up.

Observe and witness all the various cycles of spiritual inputs - how you have an awakening/realization, or you get spiritual advice from a book or a guru or a friend, or you build a deeper relationship with God.

However, this input applies only to what your consciousness allows at this very moment. You can only apply this new found realization to where you are at this moment in your awareness. The message may be deeper. Way beyond your current understanding. But the input only takes what it can gather at this point.

And that’s okay.

It’s why life often revolves in spirals. You feel you have moved past a current pattern, but your patterns repeat. If not now, say again in 7 years. It repeats with a greater challenge - a more complicated situation. And it tests you, again. It’s in those moments you observe to see your patterns. And again, use your earlier input of say an awakening/realization, or your spiritual advice, or your deeper relationship with God, but this time with a certain depth.

You see, digging a hole and going deeper is how you find natural resources. Not by drilling multiple shallow holes on a large surface area. This is reflective on all stages and walks of life. Building a friendship and a relationship with depth from one person is now very rare and difficult than building shallow and hollow friendships and relationships with multiple people. Tweets and reels are way easier to create and consume than the depth of books and films.

Depth often involves an intense focus for a prolonged attention and time.

It’s why my personal spiritual transformation is now more about looking to change my timelines by going deeper to re-read patterns. Timeless spiritual lessons - Gita, Vedas, Upanishads, and biographies of Yogis. Rise and fall of great civilizations - Mahabharat, Illiad, Rise and fall of the Roman empire. They always help you see world differently from your current awareness.

Going deeper allows me to go deeper into my spiritual practice too. Depth helps you understand it’s not just about what you practice, but how you practice. Reading spirituality at 4am during heightened sattva energy (as per jnana yoga) is way more effective than reading at random slots. Chanting hanuman chalisa 7 times at sunrise is way more effective to build a deeper relationship with God than during a random distracted drive. Reading about civilizations in the evening is way more effective for me than at random time slots.

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" depth takes a lot of effort in my life. This post does not by any means I’m consistently waking up at 4/5am. I’m not chanting hanuman chalisa and performing surya namaskar at sunrise everyday, and I don’t read every night about great civilizations. But this practice to go deeper has allowed me to notice, become aware, and build capabilities (sadhana). It helps me build an intention from the depths of my own patterns and spiritual evolution. And that’s where change and personal transformation truly happens.

Here’s how to develop depth:

1. Use data to your advantage.

Become conscious of every unconscious action in your life. A random scroll. Distraction from a notification. Habitual replies. Adulterated consumption. Toxic and karmic cycles. Abusive relationships. Anything that does not involve depth. Anything that does not touch your heart or soul. Track it. Record it. Analyze your own patterns.

When Florence Nightingale returned home from the Crimean war, she refused to accept that illnesses such as Cholera and typhoid killed ten times more solders than actual battle wounds did. She created a brand new chart to highlight the number of deaths per month along with their causes and presented it to the then parliament. Develop a habit to go one step deeper.

Two ways to go beyond surface:

1) Ask “why” and then take effort to understand.

2) Ask “How can I make this better?” And then find ways to improve to go deeper.

With time, you’ll go 98% deeper automatically from your current state.

Depth has taught me to slow down and develop patience.

It takes time. Avoid dopamine. Art is rarely finished in one sitting. Take your years to build your craft. Nobody is asking you to hand out a perfection certificate. Nobody is competing with you. Not social media.

Above all, start to have fun. Depth dramatically improves your life and gives you an edge over everything the world is offering or heading towards. Your attention to depth will differentiate you to a human being of higher quality and evolution. Of course, your journey to depth will help you become a more spiritual person with a deeper personal transformation.

So go deeper in your life. Fall in love with yourself a little deeper. Take time to build your craft. Reflect. Slow down. Develop patience. Go beyond the surface. It helps you to build a life that is rich in quality. Rich in experience. You become a lot more interesting person and evolved person. And that’s truly your goal and purpose in this life.

🕉️ Spirituality #88

Overthinking is a strategy.

You Told Me What’s Loudest

Last week I asked a simple question: what’s the primary reason you’re working on your inner life right now?

The early results lean heavily toward one answer: overthinking.

It’s a small sample so far, early days for this kind of thing but it matches what I’d guess if I had to bet: overthinking is probably the most common entry point into this work for most people reading this. So today, we go there.

Not with another framework for “how to stop overthinking”, you’ve read fifty of those, and if they worked, you wouldn’t be reading this. Instead, I want to look at what overthinking is actually for, and give you a few things to actually practice this week.

The function nobody talks about

Overthinking gets treated like a glitch. A malfunction in an otherwise well-running mind.

It isn’t.

Overthinking is a strategy. A very old one. Somewhere, at some point, your mind learned that turning a situation over and over examining it from every angle, imagining every outcome, kept you safe. Maybe it helped you avoid a mistake. Maybe it helped you prepare for criticism before it came. Maybe it just gave you something to do with anxious energy that had nowhere else to go.

The strategy worked often enough that your mind kept using it.

The problem isn’t that the strategy is “wrong.” The problem is that it never got an update. It still runs on decisions that don’t carry the same risk, on situations that don’t need rehearsing, on conversations that already happened and can’t be redone.

Overthinking is old protection applied to a present that doesn’t need it.

That reframe matters, because it changes the question. Instead of “how do I stop overthinking?” which puts you at war with your own mind, the question becomes:

“What is this thought trying to protect me from, and is that protection still needed?”

This week’s reflection exercise

Think of something you’ve been overthinking this week. Doesn’t have to be the biggest thing, just something that’s been on repeat.

Write down the thought as plainly as you can. Then ask:

If I imagine this thought as an old strategy that once kept me safe, what was it protecting me from, originally?

You might not know the full answer. That’s fine. The point isn’t to solve it in five minutes. The point is to notice that the thought has a job and once you can see the job, the thought usually gets quieter. Not because you fought it. Because it’s been seen.

Three practices for this week

These aren’t things to read and nod at. They’re things to actually do, small enough to fit into a normal day, specific enough to notice a difference.

1. The Name-It Pause

The next time you catch yourself spiraling on something replaying a conversation, rehearsing a “what if,” circling a decision stop and say, internally or out loud:

“This is overthinking.”

Not “stop it.” Not “this is bad.” Just a plain, neutral label.

Naming a mental state changes your relationship to it. The moment you can say “this is overthinking” instead of being fully inside it, you’ve created the smallest possible gap and that gap is where awareness lives. You’re not fixing anything yet. You’re just no longer fused with it.

2. The Three-Question Drain

When a thought won’t let go, instead of trying to push it away, give it three minutes on paper. Write down:

What am I afraid will happen?

What’s the actual likelihood of that?

What would I tell a friend who brought me this exact worry?

You’re not trying to “solve” the thought. You’re moving it from the looping, abstract space in your head into something concrete on paper where it almost always looks smaller and more specific than it felt at 11pm in your mind.

3. The Body Check

Overthinking lives mostly in the head but it almost always shows up in the body first. Tight chest. Clenched jaw. Shallow breathing. Restless legs.

Once a day, pause and scan: where do I feel this thought in my body, right now?

This does two things. It interrupts the thought loop by redirecting attention somewhere else entirely. And over time, it teaches you to notice the physical signal of overthinking before the mental spiral fully takes hold which means you catch it earlier and earlier.

Try one of these for the next seven days. Not all three. Pick whichever felt most natural as you read it. That’s usually a sign it’s the right one to start with.

Now I want to go deeper; help me understand this better

Here’s where I want your help.

57% of you who responded are overthinkers. That’s clear. What’s not clear yet is what you’ve already tried, and what’s still missing.

Hit reply and answer whichever of these feels most true:

What’s something you’ve already tried to deal with overthinking? an app, a book, a technique, therapy, anything that helped a little but didn’t fully solve it?

What’s the specific situation where overthinking hits you hardest? (Work decisions? Relationships? Things you said in the past? Future “what ifs”?)

If there were one tool, a journal, a short course, a guided process, that actually helped with this, what would you want it to do?

I’m asking because I’d rather build something that solves a real problem than guess at one. Your replies are shaping what comes next, literally.

Before next week

Thank you to everyone who voted last week and to everyone who’s already replied to past issues, I read every single one. On what this newsletter is actually for, what I want to say, and who I most want to say it to.

What emerged from that quiet is a sharper focus. You will still find the same spirit here but from now on, every issue is going to center on one thing: using awareness to cut through mental noise and create clarity in your life.

Less broad spirituality. More practical inner work. The kind that actually changes how you move through a Tuesday.

I am glad you are still here. Let’s get into it.

There is a thought you have almost every day.

You probably know the one.

It shows up in the morning before you are fully awake. It follows you into meetings. It surfaces at 11pm when everything is quiet and you have run out of things to distract yourself with.

You have tried to argue with it. Ignore it. Replace it with something more useful.

It comes back.

Here is what I have learned about that thought: it is not the problem.

Your relationship to it is.

The thing most people get wrong about mental noise

When the mind is loud, when the overthinking, the self-doubt, the circular worry will not stop. The instinct is to fight it.

Quieter. Slower. Stop.

But fighting noise with effort creates more noise. The instruction “stop thinking” is itself a thought. You cannot think your way out of thinking.

What actually works is something that sounds too simple to be true:

You observe the noise instead of engaging with it.

Not analyze it. Not solve it. Not give it a better story to tell.

Just notice it. The way you would notice traffic outside a window.

The traffic is still there. But you are no longer in it.

Why this changes everything

When you observe a thought instead of believing it, something shifts.

The thought loses authority.

It is no longer you, it is something you are watching. And the part of you that is watching has never been the problem. It cannot be. It is the observer. It is what you are underneath the noise.

This is what awareness actually is.

Not emptying the mind. Not achieving peace. Not becoming someone who never overthinks.

It is the 10-second gap between the thought and your response to it.

In that gap, you have a choice.

Most people never find that gap because they are too busy being inside the thought to notice there is a gap at all.

This week’s reflection exercise

Set a timer for 5 minutes. Sit somewhere quiet or not, it doesn’t matter.

Ask yourself this question and write whatever comes:

What is the thought I keep having that I have never fully examined?

Don’t try to solve it. Don’t try to reframe it into something positive. Just write it down, plainly, the way it actually sounds in your head.

Then ask one more question:

When did I first start having this thought?

You don’t need to answer it completely. You just need to notice that the thought has a history and that means it was learned. And what was learned can be observed. And what is observed loses its grip.

That is the beginning of clarity.

One action for this week

Once a day, just once, catch yourself mid-thought and say internally: “I notice I am thinking this.”

Not “stop thinking this.” Not “why am I thinking this?”

Just: I notice.

That one-word shift from being the thought to noticing the thought is the entire practice compressed into a single moment.

Do it once a day for seven days. See what changes.

Quick question: one tap

Before you go, I want to understand what brings you here.

(This is a Substack poll, no login needed. I read every result and it shapes what I write next.)

Now the slower question

If you have a minute, hit comments and tell us:

What is the thought you keep coming back to that you have never fully examined?

You don’t need to share all of it. One sentence is enough. I read every reply personally and I am building the next few issues around what you tell me.

The most common answers will also tell me what to focus on next, so your reply shapes this newsletter directly.

You are reading a weekly letter on using awareness to overcome mental noise and create clarity, purpose, and freedom.

Om Spirituality,
Om

🕉️ Spirituality #86

The Spiritual Bypassing You're Doing to Yourself

“The Spiritual Bypassing You’re Doing to Yourself (Without Even Realizing It)”

You know about spiritual bypassing when other people do it.

When your friend says “everything happens for a reason” about something genuinely tragic. When someone tells you to “just raise your vibration” about a real problem that requires real action. When toxic positivity masquerades as spirituality.

You can spot it a mile away when it’s external.

But what about the spiritual bypassing you’re doing to yourself?

The ways you use spiritual concepts to avoid feeling what you need to feel, knowing what you need to know, doing what you need to do?

The Bypass You Don’t See

You tell yourself you’re “surrendering” when you’re actually avoiding making a decision you’re afraid of.

Real surrender is releasing control over outcomes while still taking aligned action. It’s doing your part and trusting the rest.

What you’re calling surrender is actually spiritual paralysis. You’re not taking action because “if it’s meant to be, it will happen.” You’re not making the hard choice because “the universe will guide me when it’s time.” You’re not having the difficult conversation because “everything will work out as it should.”

This isn’t surrender. This is using spirituality to justify inaction born from fear.

You tell yourself you’re “choosing love” when you’re actually bypassing healthy anger.

Real choosing love sometimes looks like boundaries, like saying no, like honoring your anger as information that something is wrong.

What you’re calling choosing love is actually spiritual suppression. Someone violates your boundaries and you tell yourself to “respond with love.” Someone hurts you and you bypass the anger by “sending them light.” Someone takes advantage and you override your justified rage with “they’re on their own journey.”

Your anger is trying to tell you something. “Choosing love” to avoid feeling it isn’t spiritual—it’s avoidance.

You tell yourself you’re “trusting your intuition” when you’re actually avoiding information that would challenge what you want to believe.

Real intuition is that quiet, clear knowing that comes from beyond thought. It’s often uncomfortable. It tells you things you don’t want to hear.

What you’re calling intuition is actually wishful thinking or fear dressed up as inner wisdom. “My intuition says I should stay” might actually be “I’m afraid to leave.” “My intuition says they’ll change” might actually be “I want to believe they’ll change so I don’t have to face what I know.”

Intuition doesn’t usually tell you what’s comfortable. It tells you what’s true.

You tell yourself you’re “manifesting” when you’re actually avoiding dealing with what is.

Real manifestation involves aligned action, not just visualization. It’s clarifying what you want, doing the internal work to become the person who would have that, and taking steps toward it.

What you’re calling manifestation is magical thinking. You visualize the ideal relationship while doing nothing about the one you’re in. You affirm abundance while avoiding looking at your actual finances. You manifest your dream career while staying in the safe job and taking no risks.

This isn’t manifestation. This is using spiritual concepts to avoid reality.

You tell yourself you’re “processing” when you’re actually staying stuck in analysis.

Real processing moves energy. It shifts something. You feel it, you integrate it, something changes.

What you’re calling processing is actually rumination with spiritual vocabulary. You journal about the same patterns for years. You talk about your trauma in therapy indefinitely without anything shifting. You “process” your feelings about the relationship instead of addressing the actual relationship.

Processing that doesn’t lead to change isn’t processing. It’s a loop.

Why You Bypass Yourself

You’re not doing this consciously. You genuinely believe you’re being spiritual.

But here’s what’s actually happening: You’re using spiritual concepts to protect yourself from discomfort.

Discomfort of making hard decisions. Discomfort of feeling difficult emotions. Discomfort of facing truths you don’t want to face. Discomfort of taking action that might fail.

Spirituality becomes a way to stay safe while believing you’re growing.

It’s insidious because it looks and feels like spiritual practice. You’re meditating, you’re journaling, you’re “doing the work.” But the work is actually keeping you from the real work.

The Real Work You’re Avoiding

The real work is uncomfortable. Unglamorous. Often completely unspiritual-sounding.

It’s feeling your anger fully instead of bypassing it with “love and light.”

It’s making the decision you’re terrified of instead of waiting for “divine timing” that will never come.

It’s having the conversation you’ve been avoiding instead of “surrendering” to dysfunction.

It’s looking at your actual life—your finances, your relationship, your health, your choices—and seeing clearly what’s not working instead of affirming that everything is perfect.

It’s distinguishing between real intuition and fear or desire dressed up as intuition.

It’s taking aligned action in the real world instead of just visualizing change.

It’s doing therapy or healing work that actually shifts things instead of endlessly “processing” in a loop.

The Difference Between Real Practice and Spiritual Bypass

Real spiritual practice makes you uncomfortable in service of growth.

Spiritual bypass uses spiritual concepts to avoid discomfort.

Real surrender: “I’ve done everything I can. I’m releasing attachment to the outcome.”
Bypass: “I don’t have to do anything because the universe will handle it.”

Real love: “I love you enough to have this difficult conversation / set this boundary / be honest even when it’s hard.”
Bypass: “I’ll just send them love instead of addressing the problem.”

Real intuition: “This quiet knowing is uncomfortable but it’s true.”
Bypass: “My intuition says what I want to hear.”

Real manifestation: “I’m clarifying my vision, doing inner work, and taking aligned action.”
Bypass: “I’m just going to visualize it and it will appear.”

Real processing: “I’m feeling this, it’s shifting, something is changing.”
Bypass: “I’m thinking about this for the thousandth time and calling it processing.”

The Questions That Reveal the Bypass

When you’re engaging in spiritual practice, ask yourself:

“Am I using this concept to avoid taking action?” If the spiritual concept keeps you passive when action is needed, it’s probably bypass.

“Am I using this concept to avoid feeling something difficult?” If the spiritual concept lets you skip uncomfortable emotions, it’s probably bypass.

“Am I using this concept to avoid seeing something true?” If the spiritual concept protects you from an uncomfortable truth, it’s probably bypass.

“Is this creating change or maintaining the status quo?” If your “spiritual practice” somehow always leads to staying exactly where you are, it’s probably bypass.

“What would I have to face if I dropped this spiritual concept right now?” Whatever that answer is—that’s what you’re avoiding.

The Honest Path

Real spiritual health requires brutal honesty.

Not just about external things. About yourself. About the ways you’re using spirituality to avoid growth.

This means:

Feeling difficult emotions instead of bypassing them. Anger. Grief. Fear. Resentment. These aren’t un-spiritual. They’re information. They’re energy that needs to move. Feel them.

Making decisions instead of endlessly “surrendering.” Sometimes surrender means acting despite uncertainty. Choosing. Deciding. Moving forward without guaranteed outcomes.

Taking action instead of just manifesting. Vision without action is fantasy. What aligned action is your manifestation practice asking you to take?

Processing that leads to change. If you’ve been processing the same thing for years, you’re stuck. Real healing moves. Something shifts. If nothing’s shifting, you’re not processing—you’re looping.

Honoring intuition even when it’s uncomfortable. Especially when it’s uncomfortable. Real intuition often asks you to do hard things.

Using spiritual concepts to support growth, not avoid it. The question is always: Is this helping me grow or helping me stay the same while feeling spiritual about it?

The Liberation

When you stop bypassing yourself, spirituality becomes real.

Not a shield from reality but a way of engaging with reality more fully, more honestly, more courageously.

You feel more. You see more clearly. You act more aligned. You change.

And that’s the point. Not to feel perpetually peaceful while nothing changes. Body awareness would help. Connecting to something beyond yourself would help. Creating space that supports you instead of drains you would help.

You know this. Intellectually, you completely understand that spiritual health requires practice across all four dimensions—Mind, Body, Soul, Space.

And yet you don’t do it.

Not consistently. Not really. You start and stop. You mean to. You plan to. You genuinely want to. And then you... don’t.

And you beat yourself up for it. “I’m just not disciplined enough. I’m lazy. I’m not committed. I’m not spiritual enough.”

But what if the problem isn’t discipline?

What if you’re not lazy, uncommitted, or insufficiently spiritual?

What if you’re resisting because some part of you knows that these practices would actually work—and working would require everything to change?

The Resistance Isn’t Random

Let me tell you what actually happens when you try to establish a spiritual practice:

Day one, you’re motivated. You sit down to meditate, or do the body scan, or journal about your soul’s truth, or clear that corner of your space. You do it. It feels awkward but you do it.

Day two, maybe you do it again. Maybe you don’t. Something comes up. You’re tired. You don’t have time. You’ll do it later.

By day three or four, the resistance shows up. Not as a conscious decision to quit. As a fog. As forgetfulness. As suddenly having very urgent tasks that couldn’t possibly wait. As exhaustion that makes the 15-minute practice feel impossible.

You think this is lack of discipline. It’s not.

It’s your psyche protecting you from what the practice would reveal.

What the Practices Actually Threaten

When you sit in meditation and actually witness your thoughts, you can’t ignore what your mind is doing anymore. You see the loops. The catastrophizing. The way you torture yourself with worry about things that will never happen. The stories you tell yourself about who you are that aren’t actually true.

And seeing this clearly would mean you’d have to change your relationship with your thoughts. You couldn’t keep believing them all. You couldn’t keep letting them run your life. You’d have to develop the painful skill of witnessing without being consumed.

Your psyche knows this. So it creates resistance.

When you practice body awareness and actually feel what you’re storing, you can’t keep numbing. You can’t keep pushing through. You’d have to feel the exhaustion, the tension, the way your body is screaming that something is wrong.

And feeling this would mean you’d have to honor it. You couldn’t keep overriding your body’s signals. You couldn’t keep forcing productivity when your body is begging for rest. You’d have to make changes—to your schedule, your commitments, your entire relationship with your physical experience.

Your psyche knows this would destabilize everything. So it creates resistance.

When you practice soul connection and actually listen to what your soul wants, you can’t keep pretending you don’t know. You’d hear clearly that your soul is starving. That the life you’re living isn’t the life it wants. That success feels hollow because it’s not your soul’s version of success.

And hearing this clearly would mean you’d have to act on it. You couldn’t keep staying in the wrong job, the wrong city, the wrong relationship because it’s practical. You’d have to honor what your soul knows even when honoring it is terrifying.

Your psyche knows this could blow up your life. So it creates resistance.

When you practice space clearing and actually notice how your environment affects you, you can’t keep tolerating drain. You’d see clearly how certain spaces deplete you, how clutter reflects internal chaos, how your lack of sacred space mirrors your lack of self-honor.

And seeing this would mean you’d have to change it. You couldn’t keep living in chaos. You couldn’t keep staying in spaces that drain you. You’d have to create boundaries, clear clutter, demand that your environment support you.

Your psyche knows this requires effort and potentially conflict. So it creates resistance.

Resistance as Protection

The resistance isn’t your enemy. It’s trying to protect you.

From the discomfort of seeing clearly. From the vulnerability of feeling fully. From the instability of honoring your truth. From the work of actually changing.

Part of you knows that if these practices actually work—and they do work—then you won’t be able to stay where you are. You’ll have to grow. You’ll have to change. You’ll have to become someone new. You’ll have to leave some things behind.

And even though where you are is painful, it’s familiar. Change is terrifying even when it’s toward something better.

So your psyche creates resistance to keep you safe in the familiar pain.

The Forms Resistance Takes

Resistance is sneaky. It doesn’t announce itself. It disguises itself as legitimate reasons:

“I’m too tired today.” (But you have energy for scrolling, for Netflix, for other things.)

“I don’t have time.” (But you have time for activities that don’t threaten change.)

“I’ll start Monday.” (Monday comes. You’ll start next Monday.)

“This isn’t working anyway.” (After three days, before it could possibly work.)

“I need to find the perfect practice first.” (Consuming information about practices instead of actually practicing.)

“I’m too stressed right now. I’ll do it when things calm down.” (Things will never calm down.)

“I forgot.” (You didn’t forget. Part of you strategically didn’t remember.)

All of these are resistance. And all of them are protection.

The Deeper Truth About Why Practice Is Hard

Spiritual practice isn’t hard because it requires discipline.

It’s hard because it requires you to betray your own resistance.

Every time you sit down to practice despite the resistance, you’re saying to the part of you that wants to stay safe: “We’re doing this anyway. Even though you’re scared. Even though you’re trying to protect us. We’re doing it anyway.”

That’s an act of profound self-betrayal from your psyche’s perspective. The part of you that’s trying to keep you safe feels abandoned, overridden, not listened to.

So it fights harder. The resistance intensifies.

This is why spiritual practice often gets harder before it gets easier. You’re not failing. You’re encountering the psyche’s escalating attempts to keep you from changing.

How to Work With Resistance Instead of Against It

You can’t eliminate resistance. Trying to power through it with more willpower just creates more internal conflict.

But you can work with it:

Acknowledge it. When you notice resistance—”I suddenly need to clean out that drawer RIGHT NOW instead of practicing”—name it. “Oh. There’s resistance. Hello, resistance. I see you trying to protect me.”

Don’t judge it. Don’t fight it. Just notice it.

Get curious about what it’s protecting you from. Ask: “What am I afraid this practice will reveal? What change am I trying to avoid?”

Sometimes the answer is obvious. Sometimes it’s not. But asking the question shifts the dynamic from “I’m undisciplined” to “Part of me is afraid.”

Make a deal with the resistance. “I hear that you’re trying to protect me. Thank you. I’m going to practice for 10 minutes anyway. You can come with me. I’m not abandoning you. We’re just going to sit with this together.”

This sounds absurd but it works. You’re not overriding the resistance. You’re bringing it along.

Start smaller than feels meaningful. The resistance fights hard against big commitments because big commitments mean big change. So start ridiculously small. 3 minutes. 2 minutes. One breath of conscious awareness.

Small enough that the resistance doesn’t activate. Once the resistance learns that practice doesn’t immediately destroy everything, it softens.

Notice what the practice is revealing. When you do practice—even for 3 minutes—pay attention to what comes up. What thoughts, what feelings, what truths. This is why the resistance was fighting so hard.

Honor what comes up. You don’t have to act on it immediately. Just acknowledge it.

Expect the resistance to return. You’re not going to defeat it permanently. It will come back. Tomorrow. Next week. After you’ve been practicing successfully for months.

This is normal. It’s not failure. It’s just resistance doing its job of trying to keep you safe from change.

The Real Work

The spiritual practice itself—the meditation, the body awareness, the soul listening, the space clearing—is important.

But the real work is learning to practice despite resistance. To honor both the part of you that wants to grow and the part that wants to stay safe. To become someone who can hold both the desire for transformation and the fear of it.

This is integration. This is wholeness.

Not eliminating the resistance but bringing it along on the journey.

The Truth About Discipline

You don’t lack discipline.

You’re experiencing resistance.

And resistance isn’t a character flaw. It’s a signal that the practice is touching something real, something that matters, something that would require you to change if you fully engaged with it.

The resistance is actually proof that the practice would work.

If it was meaningless, you wouldn’t resist it.

What practice do you resist most? What are you actually afraid it would reveal? Share in the comments—let’s get honest about the resistance we all experience.

🕉️ Spirituality #84

What Your Body Knows That Your Mind Will Never Understand

“What Your Body Knows That Your Mind Will Never Understand”

Your body has been trying to tell you something for years.

Not in words. Your body doesn’t speak that language. It speaks in sensation, in tension, in the knot in your stomach when someone’s name appears on your phone. In the way your shoulders rise toward your ears in certain rooms. In the exhaustion that no amount of sleep can fix. In the way your throat closes when you’re about to speak your truth.

Your mind keeps trying to interpret these signals as problems to fix. Anxiety to manage. Tension to release. Symptoms to eliminate.

But what if they’re not problems at all?

What if your body is the only part of you still telling the truth?

The Intelligence Your Mind Dismissed

We’re taught to trust our minds. Logic. Analysis. Rational thought. We’re taught that the body is just a vehicle—something to feed, exercise, and maintain so it doesn’t interfere with the real work of thinking, producing, achieving.

This is backward.

Your mind is brilliant at strategy, at planning, at organizing information. But your mind is also the part of you that can be convinced of anything. It’s the part that talks you into staying in situations that are slowly killing you. That rationalizes why the relationship is fine, the job is good enough, the life you’re living makes sense even as your soul is screaming that it doesn’t.

Your mind can be gaslit. Manipulated. Convinced that what you feel isn’t real, that what you know isn’t true.

Your body can’t.

Your body knows when someone is lying even when their words sound convincing. It knows when a situation is dangerous even when it looks safe. It knows when you’re betraying yourself even when your mind has elaborate justifications for why it’s necessary.

The ancient traditions understood this. In yoga philosophy, the body is considered a vehicle for wisdom, not just a vessel to be controlled. In Taoism, the body is where chi—life force—resides and speaks. Buddhist practices emphasize somatic awareness because the body holds truth that the mind obscures. Indigenous wisdom traditions speak of the body as a direct line to knowing that bypasses the distortions of thought.

Your body is an oracle. And you’ve been ignoring it.

What Your Body Is Actually Saying

That chronic pain in your lower back that no doctor can fully explain? It might be your body holding the weight of responsibilities that aren’t actually yours.

The tension in your jaw you wake up with every morning? Your body protecting you from speaking truths that feel too dangerous to voice.

The exhaustion that sleep doesn’t touch? Your body shutting down because you’re living a life that requires you to be someone you’re not, and the performance is unsustainable.

The way your stomach churns before seeing certain people? Your body recognizing something your mind won’t admit about the relationship.

The tightness in your chest when you think about your job? Your body telling you what your mind is too afraid to acknowledge about your career.

Your body doesn’t speak in arguments or justifications. It speaks in direct knowing. This feels safe. This feels dangerous. This is aligned. This is wrong. Yes. No. Stay. Leave.

And because it doesn’t provide the why, because it doesn’t give you logical reasons you can defend to others, you override it.

“But they haven’t done anything wrong.”
Your stomach still churns.

“But the job pays well.”
Your chest still tightens.

“But I should be grateful.”
Your body still collapses with exhaustion.

Your mind keeps arguing. Your body keeps knowing.

The Somatic Truth You’ve Been Avoiding

Here’s what your body knows that your mind refuses to accept:

The relationship is over. Your mind is listing all the reasons to stay—the history, the investment, the logistics, what people will think. Your body goes numb when they touch you. Your shoulders tense when you hear their car in the driveway. You hold your breath in conversations. Your body left months ago. Your mind just hasn’t caught up.

The job is killing you. Your mind is calculating the salary, the benefits, the stability. Your body is storing tension in places you didn’t know could hold tension. You get sick more often. You clench your jaw through meetings. Your body is trying to protect you by breaking down before you do something you can’t come back from.

You’re living someone else’s life. Your mind has elaborate explanations for every choice you’ve made. Your body feels like it belongs to a stranger. You’re disconnected from physical sensation because inhabiting your body fully would mean feeling how misaligned everything is.

The boundary needs to be set. Your mind is worried about being difficult, being too much, hurting their feelings. Your body recoils at the thought of another obligation. Your throat closes when you try to say yes. Your energy drains when you’re around them.

You’re not safe here. Your mind is analyzing whether there’s concrete evidence of danger. Your body is already on high alert—heart racing, breathing shallow, muscles ready to flee. Your body doesn’t wait for your mind to prove the threat. It responds to what it senses.

This is somatic wisdom. And you’ve been treating it like it’s irrational.

Why You Don’t Trust Your Body

You learned not to.

You learned that what you feel isn’t as important as what you think. That bodily knowing isn’t “real” knowing—you need logic, evidence, reasons you can articulate.

You learned to override your body’s signals. To push through exhaustion. To ignore pain. To stay in situations that make your body scream because your mind says you should.

Maybe you were explicitly taught this—”stop being so sensitive,” “you’re overreacting,” “there’s no reason to feel that way.” Your feelings, your bodily responses, were dismissed as unreliable.

Or maybe you just absorbed it from a culture that values productivity over wellness, thinking over feeling, doing over being.

Either way, you learned to live from the neck up. To treat your body as something to manage, control, override when it interferes with what you’re supposed to be doing.

And now your body is a stranger. You’re disconnected from sensation. You don’t know what you actually feel most of the time. You can’t tell the difference between “I’m hungry” and “I’m anxious” because you’ve ignored both for so long they blur together.

The Practice of Coming Home

Reconnecting to your body isn’t complicated. But it is uncomfortable.

Because when you start actually listening to your body—really listening, not just managing symptoms—it’s going to tell you things you don’t want to hear.

It’s going to tell you that the life you’re living isn’t sustainable. That the choices you’re making are depleting you. That the relationships you’re maintaining are draining you. That the person you’re performing isn’t who you actually are.

Your body has been storing all the truths your mind wouldn’t let you acknowledge. When you reconnect, they surface.

This is why somatic work is so powerful. And so avoided.

But here’s how you begin:

Start with simple awareness. Several times a day, pause. Place one hand on your heart, one on your belly. Ask: “What am I actually feeling right now?” Not thinking. Feeling. In your body. Don’t analyze it. Don’t fix it. Just notice.

Track your body’s responses. When you’re about to say yes to something, pause. How does your body respond? Does it expand or contract? Relax or tense? Notice without judgment. Your body is giving you data.

Honor the signals without needing to understand them. Your body doesn’t have to make logical sense. If your stomach churns around someone, that’s information. You don’t need to prove why. You don’t need to convince yourself. You just need to notice.

Practice inhabiting sensation. When you feel tension, instead of immediately trying to release it, stay with it. Where exactly is it? What’s the quality of it? What happens when you breathe into it? Tension often holds wisdom—it’s there for a reason.

Let your body move how it wants to. Not structured exercise. Just movement. Shake. Sway. Stretch. Make sounds if they want to come. Your body knows how to release what it’s holding if you give it permission.

Speak the truths your body knows. This is the hardest part. When your body is telling you something—leave, set the boundary, stop, say no—honor it. Even when your mind has a thousand reasons why you shouldn’t.

Your Body as Teacher

Your body will teach you things your mind could never learn:

It will teach you that safety is something you feel, not something you think.

It will teach you that knowing doesn’t require evidence—sometimes you just know, somatically, cellularly, in ways that bypass thought.

It will teach you that you’ve been betraying yourself in ways you couldn’t see because you were so disconnected from the part of you that registers betrayal.

It will teach you that transformation isn’t a mental process—it’s a full-body reorganization. You can’t think your way into wholeness. You have to feel your way there.

It will teach you that the wisdom you’ve been seeking externally has been inside you all along, speaking a language you forgot how to hear.

The Return

Coming back to your body is coming home.

Not to a body that performs, produces, or looks a certain way. To a body that knows. That feels. That tells you the truth even when the truth is inconvenient.

To a body that is not separate from your spirituality but central to it. Because spirit doesn’t exist apart from flesh—it moves through it, speaks through it, knows through it.

The mystics knew this. The yogis knew this. The shamans knew this.

Your body is not the obstacle to spiritual health. It’s the gateway.

Listen to it.

What is your body trying to tell you that your mind keeps dismissing? What truth have you been overriding? Not the divorce, the breakup, the job loss—those are acknowledged as legitimate grief.

I’m talking about the losses no one sees. The deaths no one witnesses. The grief no one validates because nothing “actually died”—except it did.

The version of yourself you’ll never become. The life you didn’t choose. The dreams you abandoned. The person you were before the world taught you to be smaller. The relationships that didn’t end but slowly became hollow. The decade you spent becoming someone you’re not.

These deaths are real. And you haven’t been allowed to grieve them.

The Invisible Losses

You’re grieving the death of who you thought you’d be by now.

Remember her? The version of you that was going to do that thing, live that way, become that person? She died. Not dramatically. Slowly. Through a thousand small compromises, practical decisions, necessary sacrifices. Through life happening while you were busy being responsible.

She died and no one threw a funeral because she was never “real”—she was just potential. But potential dies too. And the death of who you might have been is a real loss even if no one else can see it.

You’re grieving the years you spent building a life that doesn’t fit.

The career you chose because it made sense, paid well, looked impressive—that slowly drained your soul. The relationship you committed to before you knew who you actually were. The city you stayed in for practical reasons while part of you withered.

You can’t get those years back. They’re gone. Spent building something that was never actually yours. That’s worth grieving even though nothing technically died.

You’re grieving the version of yourself before the trauma, the betrayal, the experience that changed you.

There was a you who trusted more easily. Who loved more openly. Who believed certain things about the world, about people, about herself. That version is gone. Something happened—someone hurt you, life broke you, reality revealed itself to be harsher than you knew—and you can’t go back to who you were before.

That innocence, that openness, that version of you—she’s dead. Even if you’ve “healed,” she’s not coming back. Grief for her is valid.

You’re grieving relationships that didn’t end but aren’t what they were.

The friendship that faded. The parent you have a polite but distant relationship with. The sibling you don’t really know anymore. The partner you still live with but feel miles away from.

Nothing ended officially. There’s no closure. No final goodbye. Just this slow, aching distance that grew so gradually you almost didn’t notice until you looked up and realized you don’t recognize this anymore.

You can’t mourn what hasn’t died, but you can feel the loss of what it was. That’s grief too.

You’re grieving the spiritual wholeness you had before you learned to perform.

There was a time when you were connected—to yourself, to something larger, to a sense of meaning that felt real. Maybe it was childhood before the world taught you to doubt. Maybe it was a brief period in your twenties before responsibility crushed it. Maybe it was just moments scattered through life that you can barely remember now.

That connection is gone. Buried under years of doing what you’re supposed to do, being who you’re supposed to be, achieving what you’re supposed to achieve. You’re grieving its loss even as you’re trying to find your way back to it.

Why You Haven’t Been Allowed to Grieve

Grief makes people uncomfortable when there’s no body to bury.

Tell someone you’re mourning the death of your father and they understand. Tell them you’re grieving the death of the artist you never became and they look at you like you’re being dramatic.

Tell them your marriage ended and they offer sympathy. Tell them your marriage is still technically intact but the intimacy is dead and they tell you to go to couples therapy, work harder, be grateful for what you have.

Tell them you lost your job and they commiserate. Tell them you’re grieving the decade you spent in a career that wasn’t actually yours and they tell you at least you made good money, at least you have stability.

Society only validates grief that’s visible, final, and fits into recognized categories.

Everything else—the subtle deaths, the slow losses, the grief for what never was and what will never be—that’s supposed to be handled quietly. Privately. Or better yet, reframed as something other than grief.

“You’re just going through a transition.”
“This is a growth opportunity.”
“Everything happens for a reason.”
“You should be grateful for what you learned.”

These are all ways of saying: Stop grieving. Your loss doesn’t count.

But It Does Count

Every loss counts. Every death matters. Even the invisible ones. Especially the invisible ones.

Because ungrieved loss doesn’t disappear—it calcifies. It becomes bitterness, resentment, numbness. It becomes the heaviness you carry that you can’t name. It becomes the distance between who you are and who you could be.

Ungrieved loss leaks into everything. Your relationships—you can’t fully connect because you’re still holding the loss of other connections. Your choices—you can’t move forward because you never completed the ending. Your body—you store the grief somatically, in tension, in pain, in exhaustion that won’t lift.

You think you’re over it because you’re functional. You go to work, maintain relationships, get through the days. But underneath, you’re carrying corpses—the deaths of selves, dreams, possibilities, versions of life that are gone but never properly mourned.

The Sacred Work of Grieving

Real grief is not neat. It’s not linear. It doesn’t follow the stages you learned about in psychology class.

Real grief is allowing yourself to feel the full weight of the loss without trying to fix it, reframe it, or make it mean something positive.

It’s saying: This is gone. I wanted it. I don’t have it. That hurts. And sitting with that hurt without immediately reaching for the lesson, the growth, the silver lining.

Here’s what sacred grieving actually looks like:

Name the loss specifically. Not “I’m sad about my life.” But “I’m grieving the version of myself who was going to write novels. She’s dead. I chose stability over creativity and she died. That’s the truth.”

Or “I’m grieving the marriage I thought I had. The partnership, the intimacy, the shared life. It ended years ago even though we’re still together. I need to grieve what’s gone before I can decide what to do next.”

Or “I’m grieving my twenties. I spent them trying to become who my parents wanted me to be, and I can’t get that time back. The version of me who could have spent that decade discovering myself—she’s gone.”

Name it. Specifically. Without softening it.

Let yourself feel it. Not think about it. Feel it. In your body. The ache in your chest. The heaviness. The tears that want to come. The anger underneath the sadness. The emptiness where something used to be.

Don’t analyze it. Don’t fix it. Don’t make it productive. Just feel it.

Set a timer for 10 minutes if you need a container. Sit somewhere private. Place a hand on your heart. And let yourself feel the grief you haven’t allowed yourself to feel.

Speak to what’s gone. Write a letter to the version of yourself who died. To the dream that’s not going to happen. To the relationship that’s over even though it’s not officially over.

Tell her what you miss. What you wish had been different. What you learned. What you regret. What you appreciate. What you’re angry about.

You don’t have to send it. You don’t have to show anyone. This is between you and what’s gone.

Create a ritual. Humans have been ritualizing grief for millennia because ritual helps what’s internal become external. It gives grief a form, a container, a witnessed moment.

Light a candle for what you’re grieving. Bury something that represents it. Release something symbolic into water. Create art from it. Move your body in a way that expresses the loss.

The specific ritual doesn’t matter. What matters is marking the death, acknowledging it, giving it space and form and witness.

Allow it to be incomplete. Grief doesn’t end. It changes. It softens. But it doesn’t complete the way our culture wants it to.

You’ll grieve this loss in waves. Today. Next month. Five years from now when something unexpectedly reminds you. That’s normal. That’s how grief actually works.

You’re not failing at grieving if it keeps coming back. You’re being human.

What’s on the Other Side

When you allow yourself to grieve what you’ve lost—really grieve it, without rushing to the lesson or the growth—something shifts.

Not immediately. Not dramatically. But gradually, you create space.

Space for what’s true now instead of what you wish were true. Space for new possibilities instead of clinging to dead ones. Space for who you’re actually becoming instead of mourning who you thought you’d be.

Grief clears. Like a forest fire that seems destructive but actually creates conditions for new growth.

But only if you let yourself grieve. Fully. Without apology. Without rushing to the resurrection before you’ve properly buried the dead.

The Permission You Need

You’re allowed to grieve the invisible losses.

The life you didn’t choose. The self you’ll never be. The decade you spent lost. The relationships that died without dying. The wholeness you had before you learned to fragment yourself.

These losses are real. Your grief is valid. You don’t need anyone else to understand or validate it for it to matter.

You can grieve while still being functional. While still working, parenting, showing up. Grief doesn’t require you to fall apart.

It just requires you to stop pretending the losses don’t matter.

The Invitation

What are you carrying that you haven’t grieved?

What death is still unacknowledged, still unwitnessed, still taking up space in your body and your life because you never gave it the sacred work of proper mourning?

Name it. Feel it. Grieve it.

Not because it will fix anything. But because the dead deserve to be mourned.

Even when the dead is a version of yourself, a dream you had, a life you’ll never live.

Especially then.

What invisible loss have you been carrying without grieving? Intellectually, you get it.

But let me ask you something you probably haven’t considered: What is spiritual depletion actually costing you in dollars?

Not in vague terms like “peace of mind” or “fulfillment.” In actual money. Career opportunities. Economic impact. Real financial consequences.

Because here’s what no one’s talking about: Spiritual depletion has a measurable economic cost. And you’re paying it. Every single day.

The Hidden Economic Drain

Let’s start with the obvious: productivity loss.

When your mind is scattered, anxious, constantly racing, you’re not operating at full capacity. You’re not. Studies show that workplace stress and mental fog reduce productivity by 30-40%. But let’s be conservative and say you’re operating at 20% below your potential due to spiritual depletion.

If you earn $75,000 a year, that’s $15,000 in lost productivity. If you earn $100,000, that’s $20,000. If you’re an entrepreneur or commissioned professional, the loss is even higher because your income directly correlates to your output.

That’s money you’re not earning. Opportunities you’re not seeing. Ideas you’re not generating. Connections you’re not making. All because your mind is too chaotic to access your full capacity.

But it’s not just productivity.

When your body is disconnected, tense, running on fumes—you get sick more often. You need more sick days. You have chronic issues that require expensive treatments. Your healthcare costs increase. Your insurance premiums rise.

The average American spends $12,000 annually on healthcare. When you’re spiritually depleted, that number climbs. More chiropractor visits for tension. More prescriptions for anxiety. More specialists for symptoms your doctor can’t explain because they’re not medical—they’re spiritual.

Add another $3,000-$5,000 annually in health costs directly attributable to spiritual depletion manifesting physically.

Then there’s the coping costs.

When your soul is starving, you medicate the emptiness. Not necessarily with substances (though sometimes that too). With consumption. Shopping. Dining out. Entertainment. Experiences you don’t really want but desperately need to fill the void.

How much do you spend trying to feel better when you feel empty? The impulse purchases. The weekend trips that promise transformation but deliver distraction. The courses you buy and never complete. The supplements and wellness products that promise vitality but don’t address the root.

Be honest. How much money goes to filling the spiritual void? $200/month? $500? That’s $2,400-$6,000 annually spent on symptoms, not solutions.

Don’t forget the opportunity cost.

When you’re spiritually depleted, you make decisions from fear instead of clarity. You stay in the wrong job because leaving feels too risky. You don’t ask for the raise you deserve. You don’t pursue the opportunity that requires courage. You play small because depletion makes everything feel dangerous.

What is that costing you? The job you didn’t pursue that would’ve paid $20,000 more. The business you didn’t start that would’ve generated real income. The promotion you didn’t ask for because you didn’t believe in yourself.

Spiritual depletion keeps you in smaller, safer, less lucrative positions because clarity, courage, and self-worth all require spiritual health.

Add it up: Lost potential earnings over five years of playing small due to spiritual depletion? Easily $50,000-$100,000. Probably more.

The Relationship Costs

Your relationships suffer when you’re depleted. You’re emotionally unavailable. You’re performing instead of connecting. You’re too exhausted to show up authentically.

This costs you professionally—the relationships you don’t build, the network you don’t cultivate, the opportunities that come through genuine connection that you’re too depleted to create.

And it costs you personally—the partnership that falls apart because you have nothing left to give. The friendships that fade because you’re always canceling. The family relationships strained by your constant depletion.

Some of this has direct financial impact (divorce is expensive). Some is harder to quantify but no less real.

The Total Annual Cost

Let’s do conservative math:

Lost productivity/earnings: $15,000-$20,000

Increased healthcare costs: $3,000-$5,000

Coping/medication through consumption: $2,400-$6,000

Opportunity cost (staying small): $10,000-$30,000

Relationship impact (professional network): $5,000-$10,000

Total: $35,400 - $71,000 annually

And that’s conservative. If you’re higher-earning, entrepreneurial, or deeply depleted, the real number is probably higher.

Spiritual depletion is costing you the equivalent of a full-time income.

Every. Single. Year.

The Math You’re Not Doing

Now let’s talk about what restoring spiritual health would save you—and earn you.

When your Mind is clear, you operate at full capacity. You see opportunities. You make better decisions. You’re strategic instead of reactive. That 20% productivity loss becomes a 20% productivity gain. If you earn $75,000, that’s $15,000 back in your pocket through better performance, opportunities seized, or entrepreneurial capacity.

When your Body is connected, you’re healthy. You have energy. You don’t need as much medical intervention for stress-induced symptoms. You save $3,000-$5,000 annually in healthcare costs and lost sick days.

When your Soul is nourished, you stop medicating emptiness with consumption. You stop impulse spending to fill the void. You save $2,400-$6,000 annually just by addressing the root instead of symptoms.

When your Space supports you, you’re more productive at home, make better decisions in your environment, and don’t constantly seek external spaces because your own drains you.

The ROI of Spiritual Health

Let’s be extremely conservative and say restoring spiritual health saves/generates just half of what depletion costs.

That’s $17,700 - $35,500 annually in economic impact.

Now let’s talk about investment:

A $47-$67 investment in 30-day foundational work that starts the restoration process.

A $97-$147 investment in comprehensive work that addresses spiritual depletion across all four dimensions permanently.

Do the math. The ROI is absurd.

If spiritual health restoration saves you just $17,700 annually (the very low end), your investment pays for itself in 2-3 days. Everything after that is pure return.

If the actual savings/earnings are closer to $50,000 annually? Your investment returns 350-1000x in the first year alone.

But You’re Not Treating It Like An Investment

Here’s what’s wild: You wouldn’t hesitate to invest in a professional certification that could increase your earnings by $10,000. You wouldn’t question spending money on a gym membership, therapy, or education that improves your performance.

But spiritual health—which impacts every other area of your life and has measurable economic consequences—gets treated like a luxury. Something you’ll get to eventually. Something that’s “nice to have” but not essential.

This is financial illiteracy.

Not understanding credit card interest is financial illiteracy.

Not calculating the economic cost of spiritual depletion is the same thing.

You’re hemorrhaging money while treating the solution as optional.

The Question That Changes Everything

What would you pay to save—or generate—$50,000 annually?

Because that’s what we’re actually talking about. Not feel-good concepts about peace and fulfillment. Real money. Real economic impact. Real financial consequences of staying spiritually depleted versus becoming spiritually whole.

When you frame it this way, the question isn’t “Can I afford to invest in spiritual health?”

The question is: “Can I afford NOT to?”

The Two Paths Forward

You can spend 30 days building spiritual health foundation for less than you spent on your last impulse purchase—and start recovering the economic losses immediately.

Or you can do comprehensive work for less than you’ll spend this month coping with depletion—and eliminate the ongoing annual cost permanently.

Either path has ROI that makes it the most economically rational decision you could make.

Or you can keep hemorrhaging $35,000-$70,000 annually while telling yourself you’ll address your spiritual health “eventually.”

Do the math.

Your spiritual health isn’t separate from your financial health. It’s foundational to it.

What is spiritual depletion actually costing you in real dollars? Now, let’s talk about what you’re really avoiding...

The Spiritual Performance You’re Exhausted From (That Everyone Thinks Is Real)”

You’re so good at looking spiritual.

You know the language. Presence. Mindfulness. Gratitude. Alignment. You can talk about energy and chakras and manifestation with just enough knowledge to sound credible. You’ve read the books—at least enough of them to reference quotes. You follow the right teachers. You have the crystals, the sage, maybe even a meditation cushion that you definitely use sometimes.

From the outside, you look like someone who has their spiritual life handled.

From the inside, you’re completely hollow. Still. Despite all of it.

Because here’s what you haven’t told anyone: Most of your spiritual life is performance, not practice.

And the performance is killing you.

The Spiritual Image You’ve Built

You know how to perform spirituality. You learned from Instagram, from wellness culture, from influencers who make awakening look aesthetic.

You post the sunrise photos with captions about gratitude. You share the quotes about trusting the universe. You talk about “doing the inner work” and “choosing your energy” and “raising your vibration.” You use the words that signal you’re conscious, evolved, on the path.

You might even do some practices sometimes. Weekend yoga. Occasional meditation. Journaling when you’re really stressed. Enough that you can honestly say you “have a spiritual practice” when people ask.

But here’s the truth you’re not saying: Most of it is aesthetic.

You’re performing spirituality the way you perform success, perform wellness, perform having your life together. It’s another area where you need to look like you’ve figured it out, where admitting struggle feels like failure, where being honest about how spiritually depleted you actually are would shatter the image you’ve carefully constructed.

What the Performance Actually Looks Like

Your Mind knows all the concepts. Non-attachment. Mindfulness. Presence. You can explain them. You might even believe them intellectually.

But your actual mind? Still racing. Still anxious. Still replaying conversations and catastrophizing futures and looping through the same thoughts you’ve had a thousand times. You meditate occasionally, but mostly you just think about meditating while doing literally anything else.

The spiritual performance says: “I’m so much more present now.”
The reality is: Your mind is exactly as chaotic as before, you’re just better at talking about mindfulness.

Your Body looks the part. Maybe you do yoga. Maybe you eat “clean.” Maybe you’ve mastered the wellness aesthetic—the athleisure, the green smoothies, the self-care routines that photograph well.

But your actual body? Still disconnected. Still tense. Still being pushed through exhaustion because productivity matters more than listening to what your body needs. You override hunger, ignore fatigue, numb discomfort—you just do it while talking about “honoring your body’s wisdom.”

The spiritual performance says: “I’m so connected to my body now.”
The reality is: You’re still treating your body like a vehicle for looking good, you’ve just rebranded it as spiritual.

Your Soul knows the words. Purpose. Calling. Authentic self. You talk about soul work, about listening to your intuition, about following your path.

But your actual soul? Still starving. Still making choices based on what looks good rather than what feels true. Still showing up in relationships and careers that drain you because admitting they’re wrong would mean you’d have to change them.

The spiritual performance says: “I’m living my truth now.”
The reality is: You’re performing a spiritual identity that looks authentic but still feels empty.

Your Space looks spiritual. Maybe you have an altar. Some crystals. A corner with a meditation cushion and a candle. Things that signal “spiritual person lives here.”

But your actual space? Still chaotic or just functional. Still draining you rather than restoring you. The spiritual corner is for show—you barely use it. The rest of your environment is exactly as unsupportive as it was before you started performing spirituality.

The spiritual performance says: “I’ve created sacred space.”
The reality is: You’ve created an Instagram-worthy corner while the rest of your environment remains depleted.

Why You Started Performing

You didn’t mean to fake it.

You genuinely wanted transformation. You wanted the peace, the clarity, the wholeness that spirituality promises. You started reading, learning, trying things.

But somewhere along the way, looking spiritual became easier than being spiritual. Because looking spiritual just requires the right language, the right aesthetics, the right image.

Being spiritual requires actual practice. Daily. Imperfectly. Unglamorously. It requires sitting with discomfort, facing truths you’d rather avoid, making changes that destabilize your life. It’s messy and slow and doesn’t photograph well.

So you defaulted to performance. Because performance is what you’re already good at. You’ve been performing success, performing confidence, performing having it together for years. Performing spirituality was just one more role to master.

And the spiritual community rewarded the performance. Every time you used the right words, people affirmed you. Every time you shared the aesthetic, you got validation. The performance worked—at least externally.

Internally, you stayed exactly as depleted as before.

The Cost of Spiritual Performance

The performance is expensive.

It costs you authenticity. You can’t be honest about still being anxious, still being disconnected, still feeling empty—because that would reveal the performance. So you stay isolated in your struggle, pretending you’re evolved while privately drowning.

It costs you actual transformation. Every hour spent maintaining the spiritual image is an hour not spent doing real practice. Every post about gratitude replaces actually cultivating gratitude. Every conversation about your spiritual journey substitutes for taking the actual journey.

It costs you trust in yourself. Deep down, you know you’re performing. You know the gap between how you talk about spirituality and how you actually live. That gap creates shame. And shame makes you perform harder, which widens the gap, which deepens the shame.

It costs you genuine connection. You attract other spiritual performers who recognize the language, not actual practitioners who could support real transformation. Your relationships stay surface-level because you can’t let anyone see behind the performance.

It costs you energy. Maintaining any performance is exhausting. Spiritual performance is especially draining because you’re constantly monitoring whether you sound spiritual enough, look conscious enough, seem evolved enough.

And ultimately, it costs you the very thing you wanted from spirituality in the first place: wholeness.

The Moment of Reckoning

There comes a point where you can’t maintain the performance anymore.

Maybe it’s when someone calls you spiritual and you feel like a fraud. Maybe it’s when you realize you’ve been talking about presence for months while being completely absent from your own life. Maybe it’s when the gap between your spiritual image and your actual experience becomes so wide you can’t bridge it anymore.

Maybe it’s just exhaustion. The performance is too heavy. The pretending is too costly. The image is crushing you.

That’s when you have to choose: Keep performing and stay hollow, or stop performing and risk being seen as un-spiritual while you do the actual work.

What Actual Practice Looks Like

Real spiritual practice isn’t aesthetic. It’s not impressive. It doesn’t earn social media validation.

Real Mind practice is sitting with racing thoughts and learning to witness them instead of being consumed—not once in a workshop, but daily, imperfectly, while your mind screams that this isn’t working.

Real Body practice is reconnecting to sensation you’ve been avoiding—the tension, the exhaustion, the signals you’ve overridden. It’s learning to inhabit your body as felt experience, not performance.

Real Soul practice is listening to truths that destabilize everything—your soul whispering that your career is wrong, your relationship is over, your life is misaligned. And honoring those truths even when acting on them is terrifying.

Real Space practice is actually clearing the chaos, creating genuinely restorative environment, building sacred space you actually use—not just photograph.

None of this looks spiritual from the outside. It looks like someone quietly sitting for fifteen minutes. Like someone moving slowly and breathing. Like someone writing in a journal. Like someone cleaning their house.

It’s unglamorous. Undramatic. Completely unpost-able.

And it’s the only thing that actually works.

The Permission to Stop Performing

You’re allowed to stop looking spiritual and start being spiritual.

You’re allowed to admit you’ve been performing. That the image you’ve projected is aspirational, not actual. That you’re spiritually depleted despite knowing all the words.

You’re allowed to start imperfect practice instead of perfect performance. To meditate badly. To struggle with presence. To have a messy spiritual journey that doesn’t inspire anyone.

You’re allowed to be honest about where you actually are instead of where you wish you were.

This might mean 30 days of structured real practice to break the performance pattern and build actual foundation. Or comprehensive work that transforms you from spiritual performer into actual practitioner.

But it starts with this: Stop curating the spiritual image. Start doing the unglamorous work.

The Liberation

Here’s what happens when you stop performing and start practicing:

The validation from others decreases. People who were attracted to your spiritual performance lose interest. That’s okay. They weren’t seeing you anyway.

Your actual spiritual health increases. Slowly. Imperfectly. Not in straight lines. But actually. You start experiencing real moments of presence instead of talking about presence. Your mind quiets incrementally. Your body reconnects. Your soul breathes.

You become unknown again. Not the spiritual version people think you are. Just you—messy, struggling, practicing imperfectly, slowly becoming whole.

And that version—the real one, the practicing one, the honest one—is infinitely more valuable than the performed one ever was.

How have you been performing spirituality instead of practicing it? What would change if you stopped curating the image and started doing the unglamorous work? Your best friend. That Instagram post about self-care. The wellness influencer who makes it look so simple.

Just say no. Just communicate your needs. Just protect your energy. Just set boundaries.

And you nodded. You agreed. You understood intellectually that boundaries are important. Then you went home and... did nothing. Or tried and immediately caved. Or attempted to set one boundary and the guilt nearly killed you.

And then you felt like a failure. Because if boundaries are “just” that simple, why can’t you do it?

Here’s why: Everyone who says “just set boundaries” has never actually had to set one in a relationship where the stakes were real.

The Myth of Easy Boundaries

The internet makes boundaries sound like self-care basics. Like drinking water or getting enough sleep. Just simple healthy choices that healthy people make.

This is bullshit.

Setting real boundaries—the kind that actually protect your energy and honor your truth—is one of the most violent acts of self-preservation you’ll ever commit.

Boundaries don’t feel like self-care. They feel like betrayal.

They feel like you’re being selfish, difficult, too much, not enough. They feel like you’re hurting people who love you. They feel like you’re risking relationships you can’t afford to lose. They feel like you’re doing something morally wrong even though you know intellectually you’re not.

Because here’s what no one tells you about boundaries: They’re not actually about saying no to others. They’re about saying yes to yourself when saying yes to yourself has always meant betraying everyone else’s expectations.

Why You Can’t “Just” Set Boundaries

Let me tell you what actually happens when you try to set a boundary:

Your Mind immediately generates every catastrophic scenario. They’ll be angry. They’ll leave. They’ll think you’re selfish. They’ll talk about you. They’ll withdraw their love. They’ll prove that you ARE too much, too difficult, too broken to maintain relationships.

Your mind shows you every time you’ve tried before and failed. Every boundary that got violated. Every time saying no led to punishment. Every time protecting yourself resulted in abandonment.

So you convince yourself it’s easier to just... not. To stay flexible. To be accommodating. To keep everyone else comfortable at your own expense.

Your Body knows the boundary is necessary. You feel it physically—the dread when their name appears on your phone. The exhaustion after spending time with them. The tension in your shoulders when you agree to something you don’t want to do. The way your gut clenches when you override your own needs again.

But your body’s wisdom gets overruled by your mind’s catastrophizing and your soul’s desperate need to belong.

Your Soul is screaming that the lack of boundaries is killing you. That you’re hemorrhaging energy you can’t afford to lose. That you’re living someone else’s life, meeting someone else’s needs, performing someone else’s version of you.

But your soul’s truth feels dangerous. Because honoring it means disappointing people. And disappointing people feels like dying.

Your Space reflects the boundary problem. Your home is full of things you didn’t want but couldn’t say no to. Your calendar is packed with obligations you resented agreeing to. Your environment is shaped by everyone else’s needs because you never protected your own.

So the boundary stays unset. And you stay depleted.

The Real Reason Boundaries Are Hard

Boundaries are hard because you weren’t raised to have them.

You were raised to be nice. Accommodating. Flexible. Easy. To put others first. To not make waves. To keep everyone comfortable. To earn love through service and accommodation and making yourself smaller so others could be bigger.

For women especially—but not exclusively—boundaries were framed as selfishness. Good women don’t have boundaries. Good women are available. Good women sacrifice. Good women put everyone else’s needs before their own and call it love.

So you learned that boundaries equal badness. Setting limits equals rejection. Saying no equals being unlovable.

And now, decades later, someone tells you to “just set boundaries” as if you’re not fighting against thirty, forty, fifty years of conditioning that taught you boundaries were the thing that would make everyone leave.

What Setting a Real Boundary Actually Costs

Let’s be honest about what boundaries actually require:

Disappointing people. Not theoretically. Actually disappointing them. Watching them be hurt or angry or confused by your boundary. Sitting with their disappointment without immediately rescinding the boundary to make them feel better.

Tolerating guilt. Massive, crushing, physical guilt. The guilt will tell you you’re selfish. That you’re hurting them. That you’re doing something wrong. The guilt will be so loud you’ll want to cave just to make it stop.

Risking relationships. Some people will leave when you set boundaries. Not because the boundary was unreasonable—because the relationship was based on your lack of boundaries. They loved the version of you that had no limits. The bounded you is a stranger they don’t want to know.

Facing your deepest fear. That you’re only lovable when you’re accommodating. That your worth is tied to your usefulness. That if you stop over-giving, no one will stay.

Staying with the discomfort. The boundary doesn’t immediately feel good. It feels terrible. For days, weeks, sometimes months. You have to stay with the discomfort while the relationship recalibrates or ends.

This is why you can’t “just” set boundaries. Because the cost feels higher than the benefit, even when you’re being drained dry.

The Boundary Lie You’ve Been Believing

Here’s the lie: “If I set better boundaries, I’ll feel peaceful and everyone will respect them.”

Here’s the truth: When you set boundaries for the first time, everything gets worse before it gets better.

The people who benefited from your lack of boundaries will push back. They’ll test them. They’ll make you feel guilty. They’ll tell you you’ve changed (you have—that’s the point). They’ll withdraw or punish or manipulate.

Your own conditioning will scream at you. Your mind will catastrophize. Your guilt will crush you. Every part of you that learned love equals self-sacrifice will rebel.

You’ll want to cave. You probably will cave the first few times. That’s normal. That’s not failure. That’s you learning to do something you were systematically taught NOT to do.

What Actually Works

Boundaries aren’t set once. They’re practiced. Over and over. Imperfectly. With setbacks.

You don’t need to set perfect boundaries. You need to practice imperfect ones until they start to feel possible.

This means:

Mind practices that help you witness the guilt and catastrophizing without being controlled by them. That create enough space between the emotion and your response that you can choose the boundary even when it feels terrible.

Body practices that help you stay grounded when setting the boundary. That let you feel the discomfort without immediately fixing it. That reconnect you to your body’s wisdom about what’s actually safe versus what just feels familiar.

Soul practices that remind you WHY the boundary matters. That reconnect you to your inherent worth that exists independent of what you do for others. That help you tolerate disappointing people without abandoning yourself.

Space practices that create physical environments supporting your boundaries. That remove constant reminders of obligations you resented. That build literal space for your needs instead of just everyone else’s.

You practice across all four dimensions because boundary-setting isn’t just a mental decision. It’s a full-body, full-soul rebellion against how you were raised.

The Truth About Who Leaves

Yes, some people will leave when you set boundaries.

Let them.

Anyone who only wants you when you’re boundaryless doesn’t actually want YOU. They want your service, your accommodation, your self-sacrifice. They want the performed version of you that makes their life easier.

The people who love the actual you—the boundaried, whole, sometimes disappointing you—will stay. They’ll adjust. They might be confused at first, even hurt. But they’ll respect the boundary because they respect YOU.

And the space left by people who leave makes room for relationships based on actual mutuality instead of your depletion.

The Hardest Truth

You’re going to have to set boundaries scared.

Set them guilty. Set them imperfectly. Set them while crying, while shaking, while absolutely convinced you’re doing something wrong.

Set them anyway.

Because the alternative—continuing to have no boundaries—is costing you your spiritual health, your energy, your peace, your authenticity, and increasingly large pieces of your soul.

You can spend 30 days learning to practice boundaries through structured work across Mind, Body, Soul, and Space. Or you can do comprehensive work that addresses the deep conditioning making boundaries feel impossible.

But either way, it starts with knowing: Boundaries aren’t “just” simple. They’re radical acts of self-preservation that require support, practice, and the willingness to disappoint people who’ve gotten used to your accommodation.

The Permission You Need

You’re allowed to have boundaries even when setting them feels terrible.

You’re allowed to say no even when saying yes would keep everyone comfortable.

You’re allowed to protect your energy even when others call it selfish.

You’re allowed to disappoint people by being honest about your limits.

You’re not too much. You’re not too difficult. You’re not broken for struggling with this.

You’re just finally learning to honor yourself the way you’ve been honoring everyone else for decades.

What boundary have you been avoiding setting? Find yourself. Do the inner work. Raise your vibration. And everything will get better—clearer, calmer, more aligned.

No one told you it would burn your life down first.

No one mentioned that spiritual awakening doesn’t feel like enlightenment. It feels like everything you’ve built is suddenly, devastatingly wrong. Your job that paid well but drained your soul becomes unbearable. Your relationship that looked good on paper reveals itself as performance, not partnership. Your friendships based on who you used to be feel suffocating. Even your home—the space you created so carefully—feels like it belongs to someone else.

You’re not having a breakdown. You’re having a breakthrough.

But from the inside, they feel identical.

When Awareness Becomes Agony

Here’s what happens when you start doing real spiritual work:

Your Mind develops awareness. You start witnessing your thoughts instead of being consumed by them. And suddenly you notice—really notice—how much of your mental energy goes to worry that never materializes, to rehearsing conversations that never happen, to maintaining stories about yourself that aren’t even true.

You see your patterns clearly for the first time. The people-pleasing. The performing. The way you abandon yourself to keep others comfortable. And you can’t unsee it.

Your Body reconnects to sensation. You start inhabiting your physical experience instead of overriding it. And suddenly you feel—really feel—how much tension you’ve been storing. How exhausted you actually are beneath the caffeine and adrenaline. How many signals you’ve been ignoring because listening would require change.

Your body starts speaking truths your mind has been denying. This job is killing you. This relationship is draining you. This pace is unsustainable.

Your Soul wakes up. You start nourishing that deeper part of you that knows there’s more. And suddenly you know—really know—that the life you’ve built doesn’t align with what you actually want. The goals you’ve been chasing don’t matter. The success you’ve achieved feels hollow because it’s not your soul’s success—it’s what you thought you were supposed to want.

Your soul starts demanding authenticity. And authenticity requires dismantling everything built on performance.

Your Space reveals itself. You start noticing how your environment affects you. And suddenly you see—really see—that your home doesn’t restore you, your workspace drains you, and the chaos around you reflects the chaos within you that you’ve been too afraid to address.

This is the spiritual crisis no one warns you about: Awareness without immediate ability to change creates agony.

The Dismantling Phase

You’re in what the mystics call “the dark night of the soul.” What the Buddhists call “spiritual emergency.” What happens when you wake up but you’re still living an unawakened life.

Everything feels wrong because it IS wrong. Not objectively. But for you. For who you’re becoming. For the truth your soul knows that your circumstances don’t yet reflect.

You can’t go back to unconsciousness. You’ve seen too much. You know too much. The old coping mechanisms—busyness, achievement, numbing, performing—don’t work anymore because you’re aware you’re doing them.

But you can’t move forward yet either because forward requires changes you’re not ready to make. Leaving the job. Ending the relationship. Admitting the life you built isn’t the life your soul wants. Making choices that will disappoint people, destabilize your security, and require you to trust something you can’t see yet.

So you’re stuck in this agonizing in-between space. Too awake to stay asleep. Too afraid to fully wake up.

And everyone around you thinks you’re losing it.

What They Don’t Understand

Your therapist might think you’re depressed. You’re not. You’re spiritually clear for the first time and that clarity is devastating.

Your partner might think you’re going through a phase. You’re not. You’re becoming someone new and the old relationship container can’t hold it.

Your family might think you need to be more grateful, more positive, more practical. They don’t understand that gratitude without honesty is spiritual bypassing, that toxic positivity is violence, and that you’ve been “practical” for so long you’ve starved your soul nearly to death.

Your friends who’ve never done this work might pull away. You’re too intense now. Too serious. You’re not fun anymore. They’re right—you’re not performing fun while dying inside anymore.

This is lonely. Profoundly, achingly lonely.

Because the people who haven’t been through their own spiritual dismantling can’t understand yours. They see your life falling apart. They don’t see that it’s actually falling into alignment.

The Truth About This Phase

Here’s what you need to know while you’re in it:

This is not permanent. The dismantling phase is brutal, but it’s also finite. You’re not going to feel this raw forever. You’re in the messy middle—the space between who you were and who you’re becoming. It’s supposed to feel chaotic.

You’re not doing it wrong. If spiritual growth was supposed to be peaceful, the mystics wouldn’t talk about dark nights and deaths and rebirths. Transformation is violent. Caterpillars dissolve into complete liquid before becoming butterflies. You’re dissolving. That’s the process.

The awareness is the gift, even when it’s agonizing. Yes, it hurts to see clearly. But clarity is what allows change. You can’t transform what you can’t see. The pain of awareness is pointing you toward what needs to shift.

Your soul is not trying to destroy your life. It’s trying to save it. Everything that’s falling apart wasn’t actually working—it just looked like it was working from the outside. Your soul is demanding integrity. Wholeness. Alignment. That requires releasing what isn’t true.

You need practices, not just insights. Understanding your spiritual crisis doesn’t resolve it. You need actual practices across all four dimensions—Mind practices to witness without being consumed, Body practices to stay grounded while everything shifts, Soul practices to stay connected to what’s true, Space practices to create stability in your environment when everything else feels chaotic.

This isn’t theory work. This is survival work.

The Question No One’s Asking

Everyone’s asking: “What’s wrong with you? Why are you blowing up your life?”

No one’s asking: “What took you so long? How did you tolerate misalignment for this long?”

Because here’s the real truth: Your spiritual crisis isn’t the problem. The problem was living unconsciously for years, decades, maybe your entire adult life. Building a life based on what you thought you should want instead of what your soul actually needs.

The crisis is your soul’s rebellion. It’s waking up and refusing to go back to sleep.

And yes, it’s destroying some things. It has to. You can’t build a new life while clinging to the old one. You can’t become who you actually are while performing who you thought you should be.

The dismantling is necessary. Painful, but necessary.

What Comes After

I won’t lie to you and say it gets easier immediately. There’s still work ahead—the actual work of rebuilding from alignment instead of performance. Of making the changes your clarity is demanding. Of living from your truth even when it disappoints people.

But here’s what I can tell you: The other side of this spiritual crisis is wholeness. Real wholeness. Not the performed version you’ve been faking. Not the Instagram-filtered version that looks good but feels hollow.

Actual integrity. Where your inner truth and your outer life match. Where you operate from alignment instead of obligation. Where your spiritual health is foundational, not something you get to “eventually.”

The woman who emerges from this dismantling phase is unrecognizable from who you were. She’s grounded, even when life is chaotic. She makes decisions from clarity, not desperation. She doesn’t need external validation because she knows her own truth. She has her spiritual health handled—Mind, Body, Soul, and Space working together instead of fighting each other.

Getting there might mean 30 days of structured practice to stabilize yourself through this crisis. Or it might mean comprehensive work that guides you through the entire dismantling and rebuilding process.

Either way, it starts with knowing: You’re not falling apart. You’re falling awake.

You’re Not Alone

If you’re in this phase right now—if your life is crumbling and everyone thinks you’re crazy and you’re questioning everything you’ve ever built—please hear this:

You’re not broken. You’re not failing. You’re not regressing.

You’re spiritually awakening. And awakening is violent before it’s peaceful.

The crisis is the portal. The dismantling is the path. The agony is how you know you’re finally telling yourself the truth.

Stay with it. Don’t numb it. Don’t rush it. Don’t let anyone convince you to go back to sleep.

Your soul is demanding wholeness. Listen to it.

Are you in the spiritual crisis phase right now? Now, let’s talk about what you’re really avoiding...

What You’re Really Avoiding When You Say You’re ‘Too Busy’ for Spiritual Practice

You’re not too busy.

I know you think you are. I know your calendar is legitimately full. I know you have meetings, deadlines, family obligations, and approximately seventeen things happening simultaneously at all times.

But when you say you’re “too busy” for spiritual practice, what you’re really saying is something else entirely. And until you’re honest about what that actually is, you’ll stay spiritually depleted no matter how much your schedule clears.

Let’s Do the Math

You’re telling me you don’t have fifteen minutes.

Let’s examine this claim.

How much time did you spend scrolling today? Not actively engaging with content—just the mindless scroll through social media, news, emails you don’t need to read. Be honest. Probably at least fifteen minutes. Maybe an hour. Maybe more.

How much time did you spend in conversation that didn’t matter? Small talk. Pleasantries. Discussions about nothing that changed nothing. Fifteen minutes? Thirty?

How much time did you spend watching Netflix, or staring at your phone before bed, or getting ready in the morning while your mind raced through worry instead of presence? How much time in the car thinking about the past or the future instead of being here?

You have time.

What you don’t have is the willingness to redirect it toward your spiritual health.

And the question is: why?

The Four Truths You’re Avoiding

When you claim you’re too busy for spiritual practice, here’s what you’re actually avoiding:

1. The discomfort of sitting with your actual mind.

Mind practices—witnessing your thoughts, finding stillness, developing awareness—force you to confront what’s actually happening in your head. The anxiety you’ve been outrunning. The thoughts you’ve been avoiding. The mental chaos you’ve been medicating with busyness, achievement, consumption, and distraction.

Sitting still for fifteen minutes means you can’t avoid it anymore. So you stay busy instead. You tell yourself you don’t have time. You protect yourself from what you’d have to feel if you stopped.

2. The truth your body has been trying to tell you.

Body practices—reconnecting to somatic wisdom, releasing stored tension, inhabiting your physical experience—mean you have to actually feel what you’ve been ignoring. The exhaustion you’ve been pushing through. The pain you’ve been numbing. The signals you’ve been overriding with caffeine, wine, and sheer force of will.

Your body knows things your mind won’t admit. It knows the relationship is over. It knows the job is killing you. It knows you’re running on empty. Practicing body awareness means listening to these truths.

So you stay too busy to listen.

3. The soul questions that terrify you.

Soul practices—connecting to purpose, accessing inner wisdom, nourishing what success can’t touch—force you to confront existential questions you’ve been avoiding through achievement and distraction.

What’s the actual point of your life? What would you do if money weren’t a factor? What matters when the resume is irrelevant? What does your soul actually want versus what you’ve been conditioned to want?

These questions destabilize everything. They threaten the identity you’ve built. They challenge choices you’ve made. They reveal misalignment you’re not ready to address.

Staying busy keeps these questions at bay.

4. The life changes spiritual clarity would demand.

Space practices—creating sacred environment, clearing chaos, honoring energetic boundaries—mean acknowledging that your current environment doesn’t support your wholeness. That you’ve tolerated drain because making changes feels impossible. That your space reflects your life, and your life needs to change.

Maybe your home is cluttered because your mind is cluttered and facing one means facing both. Maybe your boundaries are nonexistent because setting them would disrupt relationships you’re afraid to lose. Maybe your space drains you because admitting it would mean you’d have to change it, and change feels overwhelming.

So you claim you’re too busy to clear even one surface. To create even one sacred corner. To practice even the smallest boundary.

What “Too Busy” Is Actually Protecting You From

Busyness is armor.

It protects you from feeling what you’re not ready to feel. From knowing what you’re not ready to know. From changing what you’re not ready to change.

As long as you’re too busy, you don’t have to confront the truth that:

Your mind is suffering and meditation would reveal exactly how much

Your body is screaming warnings you’re not ready to hear

Your soul is starving and feeding it would mean admitting how long you’ve ignored it

Your space reflects chaos you’re not ready to address

Staying busy is a strategy. Not a circumstance. A choice. Not a constraint.

And it’s costing you everything.

The Real Cost of Your Busyness

Every day you claim you’re too busy for fifteen minutes of spiritual practice:

You sacrifice mental clarity and operate from fog instead. You make worse decisions. You miss insights. You stay anxious and scattered when stillness is fifteen minutes away.

You override your body’s wisdom and compound the damage. You push through exhaustion that will eventually break you. You ignore signals that are trying to save you.

You starve your soul and wonder why achievement feels empty. You pursue success that means nothing. You build a life you’ll regret because you were too busy to ask what you actually wanted.

You tolerate environmental drain and wonder why you’re exhausted. You let your space deplete you. You avoid creating even one corner that restores instead of drains.

The cumulative cost? Years of your finite life spent spiritually depleted, telling yourself you’ll practice “when things calm down,” knowing they never will.

The Truth About Time

You have fifteen minutes.

You do.

You just haven’t decided your spiritual health is worth protecting them for.

And I get it. Because protecting fifteen minutes means admitting that:

It matters (and if it matters, you have to honor it)

You’re worth it (and if you’re worth it, you have to act like it)

The discomfort is necessary (and if it’s necessary, you have to stop avoiding it)

The changes that follow are inevitable (and if they’re inevitable, you have to face them)

This is why you stay busy. Not because you don’t have time. Because having time would mean you have no more excuses.

What Changes When You Finally Start

When you stop claiming busyness and start practicing—even imperfectly, even for just fifteen minutes—here’s what happens:

Day one feels forced. You resist. Your mind wanders. Nothing magic happens. You remember why you convinced yourself you were too busy.

But you do it again day two. And day three.

By day seven, something shifts. Not because the practices suddenly work. Because you finally stopped letting busyness protect you from discomfort.

By day fourteen, you realize you’ve spent more time scrolling Instagram than you have practicing, but at least you’re practicing now.

By day thirty, you’ve built more spiritual health than you did in the entire previous year of being “too busy.”

This might mean 30 days of structured practice to break the busyness pattern and prove to yourself that you actually have time. Or it might mean comprehensive work that finally addresses everything you’ve been too busy to face.

Either way, it starts when you stop lying to yourself about time and start being honest about avoidance.

The Question That Changes Everything

What are you really avoiding when you claim you’re too busy for spiritual practice?

Not the surface answer. The real truth underneath.

Are you afraid of what your mind will reveal? Are you avoiding what your body knows? Are you protecting yourself from soul questions that would destabilize everything? Are you dodging the life changes spiritual clarity would demand?

Because once you’re honest about what you’re actually avoiding, you can decide whether avoiding it is worth continued depletion.

And my guess? It’s not.

You’re ready to stop being too busy and start being too honest to keep avoiding this.

What are you really avoiding when you claim you’re too busy for spiritual practice? What would you have to face if you actually had fifteen minutes? Let’s get brutally honest in the comments.

🕉️ Spirituality #77

The Expensive Lie About 'Not Being Spiritual Enough

“The Expensive Lie About ‘Not Being Spiritual Enough’ (That’s Keeping You Stuck Forever)”

You’ve been telling yourself you’re not spiritual enough.

Not disciplined enough to meditate daily. Not devoted enough to maintain a practice. Not pure enough, not awakened enough, not enlightened enough. You see other people who seem to have it figured out—the ones who wake at 5am for their spiritual practice, who never miss a day, who radiate that calm you’re desperately seeking—and you assume the problem is you.

You’re not trying hard enough. You’re not committed enough. You’re not spiritual enough.

Here’s what I need you to hear: This entire framework is a lie that’s keeping you spiritually bankrupt while making you feel guilty about it.

And every day you believe this lie, you stay stuck.

The Spiritual Perfectionism Trap

The spiritual community has sold you a story: Real spiritual people have extensive practices. They meditate for an hour. They do sunrise yoga. They journal pages every morning. They’re consistent, disciplined, devoted. If you’re not doing this, you’re not really committed to your spiritual health.

This is horseshit.

And it’s expensive horseshit, because while you’re busy feeling inadequate for not being “spiritual enough,” your actual spiritual health continues to deteriorate.

Your mind races through meetings, meals, and sleepless nights. Your body stores tension you haven’t addressed in years. Your soul starves while you wait to become “spiritual enough” to deserve nourishment. Your space drains you while you tell yourself you’ll create sacred space when you’re more disciplined.

Meanwhile, the “not spiritual enough” story keeps you frozen. Because if the only valid spiritual practice requires an hour of meditation you don’t have, complete consistency you can’t maintain, and a level of devotion that feels impossible with your actual life... then what’s the point of even trying?

So you don’t. You consume spiritual content instead of practicing. You tell yourself you’ll start when things calm down. You buy another book, another course, another promise that maybe THIS will be the thing that finally makes you spiritual enough.

The Truth They Don’t Want You to Know

Here’s what the spiritual industrial complex doesn’t want you to realize: Spiritual health doesn’t require perfection. It requires practice.

Not perfect practice. Not extensive practice. Not Instagram-worthy practice.

Just practice. Real, messy, imperfect practice across all the dimensions that matter.

Fifteen minutes of actually witnessing your thoughts is infinitely more valuable than an hour of meditation you’ll never do. Five minutes of deliberate body awareness beats the yoga class you keep meaning to attend. Three minutes of connecting to your soul’s truth transforms more than the spiritual retreat you can’t afford. Clearing one corner of your space creates more restoration than the full house organization you’ll never complete.

The 4D-Pillar Method—Mind, Body, Soul, Space—isn’t about doing everything perfectly. It’s about doing something real in each dimension. Rotating through all four. Building spiritual health the way you build physical health: through consistent small practices, not perfect extensive ones.

You don’t need to become more spiritual. You need to stop letting perfectionism prevent you from practicing.

What “Not Spiritual Enough” Is Costing You

Every day you believe you’re not spiritual enough to start:

Your anxiety compounds instead of witnessing it dissolving through simple mind practices you could do in the shower.

Your body stores more tension because you think release requires a two-hour session when ten minutes of conscious movement would shift it.

Your soul shrinks further because you’re waiting to be “worthy” of spiritual nourishment instead of claiming five minutes to remember what matters.

Your space continues draining you because you think sacred space requires extensive ritual when it actually just requires intention and one cleared surface.

The math is brutal. If you wait one more year to be “spiritual enough,” that’s 365 days of accumulated depletion you could have been addressing with practices that take less time than scrolling Instagram.

The cost isn’t just spiritual. It’s professional performance you’re losing to mental fog. Relationship capacity you’re losing to disconnection. Decision-making clarity you’re losing to soul starvation. Energy you’re losing to environmental drain.

Put a dollar amount on this. Seriously. What is one year of continued spiritual depletion actually costing you in opportunity, health, relationships, and peace?

Now multiply that by however many more years you’re planning to wait until you’re “spiritual enough.”

The Permission You’re Waiting For

You’re waiting for someone to tell you it’s okay to start small. To practice imperfectly. To build spiritual health in fifteen-minute increments instead of hour-long sessions.

Here it is: You don’t need to be more spiritual. You need to be more honest.

Honest that fifteen minutes of real practice beats zero minutes of perfect fantasy.

Honest that spiritual health, like physical health, is built through consistency, not intensity.

Honest that you’re using “not spiritual enough” as a shield against the vulnerability of actually trying and possibly failing.

Because here’s what happens when you release the perfectionism and just start:

Day one, you witness your thoughts for five minutes and they’re chaos. That’s fine. You did it.

Day three, you practice body awareness for ten minutes and feel nothing. That’s fine. You showed up.

Day seven, you connect to your soul for three minutes and it feels forced. That’s fine. You’re building the pathway.

Day fourteen, something shifts. Not because you became more spiritual. Because you practiced consistently enough that the dimensions started responding.

Day thirty, you realize you’ve built more spiritual health through imperfect daily practice than you did in years of consuming content and waiting to be ready.

The Two Paths That Actually Work

You can spend 30 days building foundation across all four dimensions with simple, accessible practices—becoming the grounded professional who finally stops waiting to be spiritual enough and starts actually practicing.

Or you can go comprehensive, working through all the layers that spiritual perfectionism has kept you from touching—becoming the spiritually whole professional who understands that wholeness comes through practice, not perfection.

Either path works. Neither requires you to be more spiritual than you are right now.

They just require you to stop believing the lie.

The Real Question

How much longer are you going to let “not spiritual enough” keep you from practicing?

How many more years of depletion are you willing to endure while waiting to become worthy of spiritual health?

What if you’re already exactly spiritual enough—you’re just trapped in a story that profits from your inadequacy?

Because here’s the truth the spiritual perfectionism complex doesn’t want you to know: You could start today. With the time you have. With the discipline you actually possess. With practices that fit your real life instead of your fantasy life.

You’re not waiting to become spiritual enough.

You’re waiting to give yourself permission to be imperfect.

What “not spiritual enough” stories are keeping you stuck? What would change if you practiced imperfectly instead of waiting to practice perfectly? Worked the long hours. Climbed the ladder. Built the career. Maybe you’re a director now, or a VP, or running your own business. You earn good money—maybe great money. Your LinkedIn looks impressive. Your family is proud.

And inside, you’re completely hollow.

Here’s what no one told you when you were building this successful life: Your soul doesn’t care about any of it. Not your title. Not your salary. Not your corner office or your impressive resume or how hard you worked to get here.

Your soul cares about one thing: whether you’re actually alive.

And right now? You’re not.

The Success That Starves You

You know that feeling when you achieve something you’ve worked toward for months or years—the promotion, the raise, the recognition—and instead of feeling fulfilled, you feel... nothing? Maybe brief satisfaction. Then emptiness. Then the immediate compulsion to find the next goal, the next achievement, the next thing that might finally make you feel whole.

This isn’t imposter syndrome. This isn’t burnout. This is your soul screaming that you’re feeding the wrong hunger.

Professional success operates on external metrics. Did you hit the target? Did you get promoted? Did you make more money? Did others recognize your achievement? Your ego loves this game because the scoreboard is clear.

But your soul doesn’t speak the language of metrics. Your soul measures aliveness. Presence. Authenticity. Connection to something beyond yourself. Meaning that transcends accomplishment.

And modern professional life systematically starves all of these.

The Four Dimensions Your Success Ignored

Your mind learned to be productive, strategic, always-on. But did it learn to be still? To witness thoughts without being consumed by them? To access wisdom beyond analysis?

Your body became a vehicle for achievement—something to fuel with coffee, push through exhaustion, optimize for performance. But did you learn to actually inhabit it? To listen to its wisdom? To feel alive in your own skin?

Your soul—that part of you that knows there’s more, that feels the emptiness beneath achievement, that asks “what’s the point?”—got shoved aside every time you had a deadline. Every time “being practical” meant ignoring what you actually wanted. Every time you chose what looked successful over what felt true.

Your space became functional. A place to sleep, work, maybe entertain. But did you ever create sacred space? A corner that restores you instead of draining you? An environment that supports your wholeness instead of just your productivity?

This is why you feel empty. Not because you haven’t achieved enough. Because you’ve been achieving in only one dimension while starving the other three.

What Your Soul Actually Wants

Your soul doesn’t want another promotion. It wants you to remember what you loved before you learned to perform.

It doesn’t want more money. It wants you to make choices from alignment instead of fear.

It doesn’t want recognition from others. It wants you to recognize yourself—your actual self, beneath all the roles and titles and performances.

It doesn’t want you to be more productive. It wants you to be more alive.

And here’s the part that makes high-achievers uncomfortable: You can’t achieve your way into this. You can’t strategize it. You can’t add it to your quarterly goals and execute your way to wholeness.

You have to practice it. Daily. Across all four dimensions.

The Practices Your Soul Is Begging For

Mind practices that create actual stillness, not just stress management. That teach you to witness your thoughts instead of being tyrannized by them. That access insight beyond your analytical mind.

Body practices that reconnect you to somatic wisdom. That help you feel alive in your own skin instead of treating your body like a productivity machine. That release what you’ve been storing while you were too busy achieving to feel.

Soul practices that nourish that part of you that success can’t touch. That reconnect you to purpose beyond professional achievement. That remember what brings meaning when the resume is irrelevant.

Space practices that transform your environment from functional to sacred. That clear the chaos. That create corners in your life that restore instead of deplete.

This isn’t add-on work. This is essential work. As essential as the career-building you’ve already mastered.

The Transformation No One Talks About

Here’s what happens when you finally start feeding your soul instead of just your resume:

Your professional success doesn’t disappear. But it stops being the thing you’re using to fill the void. It becomes expression instead of compensation.

You start making decisions from clarity instead of fear. Leaving the job that looks impressive but drains your soul becomes possible. Setting boundaries becomes natural. Choosing what’s actually aligned becomes obvious.

You stop performing wholeness and start experiencing it. Not because you achieved more. Because you honored all four dimensions of your being instead of just the one that produces measurable results.

The emptiness lifts. Not because you manifested abundance or visualized success. Because you finally fed the hunger that success can never satisfy.

The Honest Question

How much more are you willing to achieve before you admit that achievement isn’t the answer?

How many more promotions before you acknowledge that the void doesn’t close?

How much longer will you let your soul starve while your resume grows?

Because here’s the truth that terrifies high-achievers: The transformation you actually need has nothing to do with doing more. It has everything to do with being more—more honest, more present, more alive, more whole.

This might mean 30 days of deliberately feeding all four dimensions to break the achievement-addiction pattern. Or it might mean comprehensive work that rewires how you measure a life well-lived.

But it starts with acknowledging what you already know: Your success is real. Your emptiness is real. And one will never fix the other.

The Path Your Soul Recognizes

Your soul already knows what it needs. It’s been telling you through the emptiness. Through the disconnection. Through the existential question that follows you despite your impressive life.

The question isn’t whether you need something beyond professional success. The question is whether you’re finally ready to honor it.

When did you first realize that success wasn’t filling the void? What does your soul actually want that your career can’t provide? Share in the comments—let’s stop pretending achievement equals wholeness.

🕉️ Spirituality #75

The Spiritual Bypass You're Actually Trapped In

Aum Spirituality

The Spiritual Bypass You’re Actually Trapped In (And Why It’s Keeping You Hollow)”

You’ve been doing the work.

You’ve read the books. Listened to the podcasts. Downloaded the meditation app. Maybe you even have a yoga membership you use semi-regularly. You’ve lit sage. You’ve pulled oracle cards. You follow spiritual teachers on Instagram who remind you to “trust the universe” and “choose love over fear.”

And yet.

You still feel hollow. You still wake up disconnected. You still spend your days performing wholeness while privately drowning.

Here’s what no one’s telling you: Most of what passes as modern spirituality is actually spiritual bypassing dressed up as healing. And you’re not broken for noticing it doesn’t work—you’re finally seeing the truth.

The Bypass Looks Like Healing

Spiritual bypassing is when we use spiritual concepts to avoid dealing with reality. It’s when “everything happens for a reason” becomes an excuse not to process grief. When “just raise your vibration” replaces actual boundaries. When “manifest your dreams” ignores systemic barriers and real trauma.

Modern spirituality loves this. It’s palatable. It’s Instagram-friendly. It doesn’t require you to feel uncomfortable things or make difficult changes. It promises transformation through consumption—buy this crystal, take this course, adopt this affirmation—without ever touching the actual wound.

You know what this feels like because you’ve tried it. You’ve affirmed yourself into exhaustion. You’ve visualized success while staying in soul-draining situations. You’ve “chosen gratitude” when what you really needed was to acknowledge that something is deeply wrong.

And then you felt guilty for still feeling empty. Because if all these spiritual practices should be working, and they’re not, maybe you’re doing it wrong. Maybe you’re not spiritual enough. Maybe you’re broken.

You’re not.

What Real Spiritual Health Actually Requires

Here’s the uncomfortable truth that gets you unfollowed: Real spiritual health doesn’t feel like a warm bath. It feels like surgery.

It requires you to sit with the racing thoughts instead of affirming them away. To feel the tension your body’s been storing instead of just “releasing” it through a weekend workshop. To acknowledge that your soul is starving even though your life looks successful. To admit that your space reflects your chaos because your chaos is real and needs to be honored before it can transform.

The 4D-Pillar Method—Mind, Body, Soul, Space—isn’t about bypassing your reality. It’s about meeting yourself exactly where you are, even when where you are is messy and uncomfortable and nothing like your vision board.

Mind practices that actually work don’t promise you’ll never have anxious thoughts again. They teach you to witness the anxiety without being consumed by it. Body practices don’t “release all your trauma” in 20 minutes. They help you inhabit your body as a felt experience instead of a performance. Soul practices don’t give you a manufactured sense of purpose. They reconnect you to what’s already true beneath the noise. Space practices don’t feng shui your way to enlightenment. They help you notice how your environment is actively draining you and give you permission to change it.

This takes time. It’s not sexy. It doesn’t photograph well. You can’t post a before-and-after of your spiritual health the way you can with weight loss.

But it’s real. And real is what you’re actually craving.

The Question That Changes Everything

Ask yourself this: What am I avoiding by staying in spiritual bypass mode?

Because here’s what I’ve noticed after working with hundreds of spiritually depleted professionals—the bypass isn’t random. It’s strategic. It’s protecting you from something you’re not ready to face.

Maybe it’s the truth that your marriage is over. Maybe it’s the reality that your career success means nothing to your soul. Maybe it’s the acknowledgment that you’ve been performing an identity that isn’t yours for so long you don’t know who you actually are underneath.

The bypass keeps you busy. It keeps you consuming. It keeps you feeling like you’re “working on yourself” without ever actually changing.

Real spiritual health starts when you stop bypassing and start being honest.

What This Actually Looks Like

You stop trying to think your way out of anxiety and learn to witness it without attachment. You stop forcing yourself to “be grateful” and start being honest about what’s not working. You stop performing positivity and start honoring what your soul actually needs, even when it’s inconvenient.

You practice in all four dimensions—not because it’s trendy, but because spiritual health is as multi-dimensional as physical health. You wouldn’t expect to be physically healthy by only eating well while never moving your body. You can’t be spiritually healthy by only meditating while ignoring your body’s wisdom, your soul’s purpose, or the chaos in your environment.

This might mean 30 days of simple, structured practices to break the bypass pattern and build real foundation. Or it might mean going deeper into comprehensive work that transforms how you operate in the world permanently.

Either way, it starts with this: Stop bypassing. Start being honest.

The Conversation No One Else Is Having

I know this is uncomfortable. The spiritual community doesn’t want to hear that most of what they’re selling is keeping you stuck. Your Instagram feed doesn’t want to acknowledge that “good vibes only” is toxic positivity in disguise.

But you already knew this. You felt it every time another affirmation fell flat, every time another “spiritual” solution left you emptier than before.

The question isn’t whether modern spirituality is full of bypass. The question is: Are you ready to stop participating in it?

Because the moment you do—the moment you choose honest discomfort over pretty bypass—is the moment your actual transformation begins.

What spiritual bypassing patterns have you noticed in yourself?
