it came as a shock to my system
to re-enter a world where words 
ran in parallel lines to actions
and the speakers never meant 
for them to meet

i’ve been surrounded by these 
types of people epigenetically
since my kinfolk saw 
those pale demons

seattle and denver are siblings
and between the two of them
i’ve had enough of white queer folks
cosplaying and weaponizing
the same identities that 
become reasons 
to end Black lives

i ached for a family-like home 
to replace the one that had 
done so much damage 
now 7months removed my 
shoulders still shake as 
my hands cover my eyes 
recalling how in my big adult age 
i went back to tip-toeing on 
outer edges, trying not to stir 
those who changed like oklahoma winds

they took and collected
books, trinkets, labor
folks, of particular hues
all at the same pace 
while quoting audre lorde
swapping us when they 
could no longer be bothered

i entered their space 
and felt my eyes bulging out
as i refused to acknowledge
i was suffocating
i was in sandy's house 
with no water 
it was stored in their tear ducts 
waiting to come out at 
every slight inconvenience 

life sustaining breaths 
came in the form of 
early morning walks 
through the mission district 
new friends and dear ones 
brought the corners of
my mouth up
it felt foreign to me
as if i had to relearn how
to trust that someone 
considers me human

never again will i so eagerly 
step into an arena where 
my ancestors would not 
have been allowed
i ask them to guide me 
through this next phase 
keep me gentle
i can’t be like them

39 years starting tomorrow
i’ve perfected ways 
to abandon parts 
i’ve claimed to love

made innate characteristics
taste like spoiled food
in my mouth
when its been acquired particularities 
that are the micro plastics
the unwanted yellow 5&6
accidentally eaten bioengineered ingredients
causing me harm
turning my brain against my body
inviting hatred from a world
where the thinwhite
standard of beauty
leaves me standing unamused

starting tomorrow
stutter stepping a declaration i 
have long needed
i shall let out a full breath
walk to the middle seat 
in the play of my life
the outside has held me
too long and i’ve missed too much
while getting up for others
