August was a month of changing SPX regimes. We saw strong upside expansion, controlled long-gamma sessions, sharp short-gamma downside acceleration, and late-month stabilization.

The biggest story wasn't simply where SPX finished. It was how SPX behaved as price moved above and below key Gamma Flips — and how dealer positioning changed with it.

📈 SPX PERFORMANCE — THE AUGUST STORY

August was anything but a straight-line market.

🔥 AUGUST 3–7 | BULLISH EXPANSION

SPX opened the month with powerful upside momentum and finished the first week around 7,757.64, roughly +3.6% for the week.

The early GEX structure showed overhead resistance, but SPX repeatedly pushed through Call Walls and positive-GEX levels.

What we learned:

A GEX wall is resistance — not a guaranteed ceiling.

When momentum is strong and dealer hedging reinforces the move, SPX can continue through a wall rather than immediately reverse from it.

🟢 AUGUST 10–14 | POSITIVE GAMMA & CONTROL

The second week became much more orderly.

SPX moved both directions, reached a new high around 7,798.99, and ultimately closed the week at 7,785.76.

The GEX profiles increasingly favored dealer-controlled/positive-gamma conditions.

That produced more:

✔️ Mean reversion
✔️ Controlled pullbacks
✔️ Respect for major GEX levels
✔️ Reduced expansion away from structure

This was one of the month's clearest examples of long gamma helping contain SPX movement.

🔴 AUGUST 17–21 | NEGATIVE-GAMMA EXPANSION

This was the month's major regime shift.

SPX started the week at 7,745.06, fell to 7,641.16 Thursday, and recovered partially to 7,674.37 Friday — roughly a -1.4% week.

As SPX moved below important Gamma Flips, dealer positioning shifted increasingly toward short gamma.

That mattered.

Instead of dealers naturally damping movement, hedging could reinforce the decline.

The Thursday selloff demonstrated exactly why:

🔴 Negative GEX is not automatically support.

Once important levels failed, SPX accelerated through the downside structure.

This became one of August's most important lessons.

🟣 AUGUST 24–28 | TRANSITION & STABILIZATION

The final full week gave us almost the entire GEX playbook in five sessions:

Short Gamma → Transition → Long Gamma → Upside Expansion → Stabilization

SPX began Monday around 7,674, tested key regime levels throughout the week, reclaimed important Gamma Flips, and eventually pushed through the 7,725 upside structure Thursday.

By Friday, SPX was operating from a stronger positive-gamma position.

The important lesson was that the Gamma Flip became the decision level.

Above it, dealer hedging generally became more stabilizing.

Below it, expansion risk increased.

This week produced some of the cleanest dealer-positioning reads of August.

🎯 AUGUST 31 | THE GAMMA FLIP TEST

The final session gave us a fitting end to the month.

The plan identified approximately:

7,700 — Support

~7,685 — Gamma Flip

7,675 — First negative-GEX area

7,650 — Major negative GEX

SPX ultimately closed at:

7,686.14

That was only about 1 point above the ~7,685 Gamma Flip.

The expected EOD pin was higher, but the dealer regime boundary itself was remarkably close to the closing price.

That's an important distinction:

The exact pin can miss while the structural level still matters.

🏦 WHAT GEX TOLD US IN AUGUST

August demonstrated three distinct dealer environments.

🟢 LONG GAMMA

When SPX remained above the Gamma Flip, dealer hedging generally favored mean reversion and stabilization.

These were the cleaner containment sessions.

🔴 SHORT GAMMA

Below the Gamma Flip, dealer hedging had greater potential to amplify moves.

This was especially important during the Aug. 17–21 downside expansion.

⚖️ TRANSITION

Some of the most important sessions occurred right around the Gamma Flip.

Those weren't automatically bullish or bearish.

They were decision points where reclaiming or losing the flip changed expected dealer behavior.

By the end of August, this became the heart of the Orbaqueen analysis:

Don't just identify the GEX level — identify the dealer regime surrounding it.

🌡️ VIX — THE CONFIRMATION SIGNAL

VIX became increasingly valuable throughout August, but not as the primary directional indicator.

Its best role was confirmation.

🟢 SPX ABOVE GAMMA FLIP + CONTROLLED VIX

Favored:

Dealer stabilization → mean reversion → containment

🔴 SPX BELOW GAMMA FLIP + RISING VIX

Warned of:

Short gamma → amplified hedging → expansion risk

One of the clearest examples came late in the month when VIX moved lower as SPX structure improved.

During Aug. 24–28, VIX declined from roughly 15.85 Monday toward the mid-14s later in the week, confirming the improving dealer environment.

👑 SPX SHOWED THE STRUCTURE.

🌡️ VIX CONFIRMED WHETHER VOLATILITY AGREED.

🎯 WHAT WORKED — AND WHAT DIDN'T

✅ WHAT WORKED

Dealer regime identification became increasingly accurate as the month progressed.

Gamma Flips proved more useful as regime boundaries than as simple support/resistance.

VIX confirmation helped distinguish stable environments from potential expansion.

Major GEX levels consistently identified areas where dealer behavior could change.

❌ WHAT DIDN'T WORK PERFECTLY

Call Walls weren't always ceilings. Early-August upside momentum pushed through resistance.

Negative GEX wasn't always support. Short-gamma downside moves could accelerate through those levels.

Exact EOD pins were mixed. The broader structural zones and regime changes were more reliable than predicting a precise closing number.

The strongest part of August's analysis was identifying where dealer behavior was likely to change.

The weakest was trying to predict exactly where SPX would stop or close.

August reinforced that SPX doesn't have to respect a level simply because the GEX is large.

What matters is the dealer regime around that level.

🟢 Above the Gamma Flip: dealer hedging generally favored stabilization.

🌡️ VIX confirmed whether volatility supported that regime.

🎯 Call Walls, Put Walls and Max Pain identified important areas — but none were guaranteed stopping points.

By the end of August, the methodology had become less about predicting where SPX must go and more about identifying:

Where is the regime?

Where can dealer behavior change?

Is VIX confirming it?

Where is expansion likely if structure fails?

That was the real evolution of August.

The dealer regime changed substantially during the week.

🔴 **Early Week:** SPX traded around/below important gamma flips, creating **short-gamma conditions** where dealer hedging had greater potential to amplify movement.

🟡 **Transition:** SPX repeatedly tested and reclaimed important dealer-control levels.

🟢 **Later Week:** SPX moved into stronger **long-gamma territory**, where dealer hedging increasingly favored buying weakness and selling strength.

Thursday demonstrated why the **Gamma Flip matters**. Once SPX reclaimed its dealer transition, the bullish scenario activated and price expanded through the identified upside levels.

By Friday, SPX began firmly above its Gamma Flip with a large positive-GEX concentration near price, producing a much stronger dealer-controlled structure.

The biggest strength this week was **strike distance**.

The spreads were positioned beyond the important GEX levels rather than moved closer simply to collect additional premium.

That mattered especially when the market moved farther than the primary expected scenario.

Thursday produced stronger upside expansion than the base case, yet the CCS remained safely OTM.

Friday's Ultra-Safe strikes were intentionally moved farther away because of catalyst risk, and both sides again expired worthless.
