Life after school is strenuous. It’s less of a physical stress and more of a battle of the mind. You could have everything going on well and yet your mind starts playing serious, dangerous games with you. You could actually win the battle, perhaps a short one or gain total victory. I really don’t know but so far for me it’s been a short win.

Okay okay, enough of heavy emotions. Today is one of those days I feel motivated. Maybe I woke up on the right side of the bed?😂

I stayed away from writing for almost a month now. Why? I wasn’t motivated. Ideas weren’t coming and the algorithm wasn’t favorable(though it was less about the algorithm). Anyway, I’m here.

I saw this on X few months ago and I totally agree with it. Growing up, I used to write stories inside notebooks. Most of it were never completed though. I think the interest started because my sister used to write really interesting stories.

Another interest of mine was reading. I still remember the day I disturbed my mom so much to buy me books. She gave in and took me to a bookstore. It took a while before I picked a choice because most of the books were different from what I was used to. I preferred bulky ones but I was mostly seeing thinner books with predictably stories. Even now, I’m always so eager to read books with 400+ pages than the shorter ones.

It’s understandable why most of us forgot about our childhood interest. Life got serious and we had to walk paths that looked lucrative. Just imagine telling your African parents you want to become a writer or an artist? Oh my, I really can’t imagine. 🤣

Your childhood interests were a sign you once found joy in the little things and didn’t care about the noise of the world. It’s Saturday, a short time away from the noise, try to sit still and ask yourself: What are my long forgotten interests?

I’m writing this while listening to “Flames Of A Wildfire album by Greatman Takit”. It seems most of you are sleeping on this album by focusing only on “ADML”, a beautiful song but please explore others. “You are good” might just be my favorite on the album.

I started writing this around 10:37pm, just a few hours before I lost my almost 7 month streak.

I had a rough week thanks to malaria and period cramps. Bad combo.

One minute I was blowing my nose, sneezing and battling headache the next I take a day off from work because my cramps decided to ruin my day.

Coupled with the several times rain decided to beat me, I can say I had a Pretty Rough Week.

On the good side, I read a lot of books this week. Readers that overhype books, please what exactly is the color of your problem?

Books have been trending on a side of X(Twitter) for almost two weeks now and particular book was consistently hyped. I tried to sit through it all just maybe I would get the hype. I didn’t

Am I the problem? Or they are?

If I’m late to church tomorrow, it would because of the ungodly hour I decided this out😂😂.

I had my 9th clearance yesterday. I used to dread clearance days so much because of how hectic they were.

For my first clearance, I left my house very early and truth be told there were signs that day wasn’t going to go well. But I didn’t care because my mind was fixed on getting my clearance done. I didn’t get bike on time and when I eventually did I took it with a chubby lady. Now, this was not the main issue. My khaki trousers were tight and I could barely sit properly.

I didn’t mind because I had a mission. Not too long after the journey began, there was a bump and before I could make sense of what was happening, I found myself on the floor. My khaki had torn on the two sides of my knee, my white shirt and shoe was stained and I was bleeding but guess what?

I wasn’t bothered, I just wanted to get to the venue and have my clearance done😭. Got to my LGA, given preferential treatment(of course) and called my sister to the rescue. Didn’t realize the magnitude of what had happened until I got to the hospital.

This isn’t why we are here but I hope you were entertained?🌚

Yesterday was my clearance for July and I didn’t have to leave my house early. I was so relaxed, arrived quite late and was done in less than five minutes.

This is growth. Because January me couldn’t have dared to do that.

We’re halfway into the year and I’ve been avoiding doing proper evaluation because the year has been full of different emotions. But for the little things, I’m truly grateful:

Getting back to saving after squandering my previous savings

Finding joy in writing

My hair growing a few more inches

Finding a church that blesses and excites ms

Learning a new skill

Becoming outspoken and open to new things.

Let me stop here.

The first half of the year is over. I’m grateful for the good and the bad.

I’m so excited for what the second half has for me.

What are you grateful for so far?

My hairdresser told her daughter who was reluctant to do a chore, “You shouldn’t be lazy, you’re a girl”. Truth be told she wasn’t willing to do that said chore.

But why should basic chores automatically be a girl’s responsibility? I get so annoyed when I see grown men who can’t handle simple chores or shy away from it because they were never taught.

My opinion? Chores shouldn’t be gender-based.

I’m currently learning a new skill and it has been humbling me. Nothing in this life is easy for real. That’s why debates like “Doctors are better than teachers” or comparing professions shouldn’t even be a thing. Every career has its own peculiarity. We shouldn’t undermine one to praise another.

I’ve been more careful of what I consume on social media lately. You can post content without looking like a fool. We reward brain rot way too much.

I have so much to say but my anger makes it difficult to articulate my thoughts properly. Nigeria needs serious, thorough cleaning because the damage has gone deep.

Anyways, these are just some of the random thoughts running through my mind.

Saturdays growing up was different from every other day of the week. We’d wake up later than usual, have a long morning devotion, then my mom would whip out chores I never knew existed. After all the cleaning and washing, we’d crown it up with pap and akara. Once that was done, everyone was free to enjoy the rest of the day.

My sisters and I were choristers, so evenings meant rehearsals. Looking back now, how was I in the choir department with my crocodile voice???😭 Sorry to everyone that had to endure it😔.

Now, Saturdays in my own space means doing things at my pace. My body mostly refuses to sleep in, so I usually stay in bed for a while, just lying down and gathering the strength to start the day. Most Saturdays for me involve rambling around the house, washing a few clothes, eating and lying down again.

Today though, I decided to put my space in order. My week is usually so hectic that by weekend my apartment is really interesting. Interesting but from the back😭.

I pick whatever I have to wear the morning of a work day so just imagine the chaos. With the rush to ensure I leave the house early, my wardrobe is mostly left scattered.

I come back from work very tired and the only thing I would want to do is lay on my bed. I quickly take off every thing I’m wearing and so far it’s out of my way, I’m good to go at least until I relax from the chaos encountered that day.

This is not an excuse for a disorganized apartment. Especially when I imagine adding children to what I’m currently going through😔. Arghhhhhh, I really can’t imagine.

I finally sorted my space. With the help of music and motivation that my disorganized bags had to be back in their positions, I was done in a few minutes.

I’m currently laying on my well made bed, stomach fed, high mood and writing to my readers🙂‍↕️.

Substack means so much to me; it feels like a time I can finally release my shoulders and take a deep breath.

Sometimes, I get so discouraged. Wondering if anyone really cares about what I write.

But every single week, regardless of my mind playing games with me, I show up.

Sending newsletters to your emails weekly! Phew! That has been a lot. On some weeks, the words came in naturally. Other times, I struggle to put something out.

I get so happy reading my words and I hope you all are happy reading my words too.

I was on my way out on Monday and realized there was a protest as regards the kidnapped children. To think that someone like me who is almost chronically online didn’t realize the protest would hold that day. Smh 🤦‍♀️.

Anyways, a route that would normally be free, was jam packed. I had to keep telling my bike man to take it easy because that man was determined to climb every hill to beat traffic.

I’m not complaining sha because there was literally no award for early comers when I got to my destination. So everywhere semo. Even if I couldn’t accomplish my mission that morning, everywhere still semo. I was really happy seeing the protesters.

The sadness in me right now for the kidnapped children is so much. They’ve spent 3 weeks in the bush now. It’s so unfair. They are just babies for God’s sake😔.

The action you people’s president decided to take? I was sincerely disappointed. Well, what else should I expect from him?

The demands of the bandits? I have no words because what was that?

There’s fear in everyone’s hearts now, especially in this city.

How did it get this bad? When would it get better?

What do I do? Well for me, I pray for these children every single day. Almost at the point of tears, whenever I pray for them. While prayer is effective and very important. I have gotten my PVC because I seriously want a better Nigeria. Getting your PVC and voting right won’t drastically cleanse Nigeria but it would cushion the effect.

I don’t have 40m to japa. Even if I have, what of my family members? If they have? What of every other person I love? I really do not want to result to leaving my certificate and going for a side hustle because Nigeria doesn’t favor the common man. I don’t want to constantly live in fear.

Thinking of it now, there are a lot of battles in this Nigeria🤦‍♀️. God help us sha.

Now, what do you do? Please keep praying for the kidnapped children and get your PVC. When you get that PVC, I’m begging you in the name of God, please don’t vote for “you know who”. Tell your parents too because the number of grown adults I see every day wearing the face cap of that demonic and satanic political party is too alarming. Like are you people blind? Can’t you see where your wrong choices lead us too?

Primary school students and their teachers have been kidnapped for almost two weeks now and the government are just going on like nothing happened.

It sad to see because it could have been anyone. They left their houses that morning and never knew they wouldn’t make it back home. I saw a picture of the kidnapped children few minutes ago and I was so sad.

I was stuck while traveling this week in the middle of the night and the fear I felt in those 30 minutes was intense. How much more those children for almost two weeks exposed to various harsh conditions? This shouldn’t be the norm at all. It is not normal.

Nigeria has just been moving backwards. I was in Primary 3 when the chibok girls were kidnapped. It might sound unbelievable but my friends and I decided to fast and pray for 3 days. I could never have imagined that almost 15 years later we would still be dealing with a more disastrous situation.

What more bad news do we have to hear? How much more do we have to pray we won’t be next?  How long do we have to live in fear? Why is the government silent?

There’s no reasonable reason why you should be political apathy at this stage because if you’re not a trust fund kid and your parents don’t have long legs, why are you acting less concerned?

Please get your PVC’s. That is literally our only weapon. The situation on ground is far too serious to acts nonchallant .

I’m quite young but in the few years I’ve lived, I’ve realized one thing; at every stage of life, there will always be something that feels like a big, impossible mountain.

In primary school, one of my mountains was quantitative and verbal reasoning. Verbal reasoning wasn’t so much of a big deal but quantitative reasoning felt like a mystery box I couldn’t open no matter how hard I tried.

Secondary school brought its own battles. I genuinely thought my world would end because I couldn’t solve a Physics question (not like I can solve it now, but does it matter?) or trigonometry in Mathematics. GCE, JAMB, WAEC and NECO was an era too. I stayed up so late to the extent that my sleep pattern was altered when I gained admission.

Then, University. It was a crazy and fun adventure. 100lvl came and I was hit seriously with rumors on how people failed MTH so much. It wasn’t just a rumor because people really failed.

200lvl tested everything in me. Before then, I had never cried while reading a course but I cried seriously while reading Anatomy. Or was it when I got to the Physiology exam hall and what I saw made me beg God for at least an E? What an era😔.

I did odeshi in 300lvl, because what else hadn’t I seen? 400lvl proved me wrong because everything I had seen in my previous levels wasn’t compared to what I went through in 400lvl. Somehow, I scaled through it all. With all I went through in school, I’m more than convinced problems comes and eventually goes.

Now I’m a graduate with adult problems. It really never ends. Every phase with its own challenges.

But, if I keep worrying at every stage of my life, then when exactly am I supposed to sit back and relax?

Life would always have another mountain waiting. But I wouldn’t want to reach the end and realize I spent the whole journey only looking ahead.

So yes, live in the moment.

There is so much beauty and pride that comes with being knowledgeable and actively working towards it.

The world is moving incredibly fast. If you’re not intentional, you’ll easily be left behind.

Whenever I get a glimpse into the lives of people I grew up with, attended school together or just had several interactions with doing impressive and mind blowing things. I always find myself wondering: When did all this happen? It’s not coming from a place of jealousy just an intense curiosity. When? Where? How did you get so good?

Again, the world is moving incredibly fast. If you’re not intentional, you’ll easily be left behind.

I have a decent amount of knowledge on many topics but it still doesn’t feel enough. I want more. I want to be disgustingly educated.

So, what have I been doing about it?

To be honest, on some days I’m just existing, watching reels, scrolling through X, thinking about my future, watching kdramas and chatting with few friends. But on days when I remember how fast the year is flying and how I wouldn’t want to be left behind, I immediately fall back in line.

The creatives and content creators you follow on social media would either make or mar you. Even on my aimless scrolling days, one good post can push me to become a better version of myself.

On Tuesday while taking down my braids, I watched a lot of podcasts on YouTube and it felt like I could rule the world. Consuming valuable contents does something to you; it shifts your thinking, motivates you and shows you a higher standard.

So, if you’re like me that wants to be disgustingly educated. I would recommend watching podcasts on YouTube or Spotify, just search for podcasts on a topic you are interested in and watch something that suits you.

Reading books too helps especially in shaping your thinking, vocabulary and daily conversations.

But consuming content is not enough, you have to take actions🫵.

The world is moving incredibly fast, thrive so you’re not left behind.

Sundays are the easily the best days of the week for me. I go to church, have a really nice time, get back home, eat something good and then sleep for long hours.

Sundays for most people is preparing for the week. Not me though, I pick whatever I have to wear in the morning of a work day. It always works out somehow and I get to work early. A win is a win.

Then, Monday. The hate with Mondays is so real. After a short weekend, it feels like a big blow to your face and you have to be strong and face it head on because who will do your work for you?

Well, Monday came with my eyes telling me they needed a break. Okay, it didn’t start on Monday, about a month ago. I shoved it aside cause my eyes are attention seekers and I probably thought it was going to leave through the back door. It didn’t.

The pain was unbearable so I succumbed. This time, I might have to keep my glasses glued to my eyes cause my pretty brown eyes needs an aid. Ughhhhh😔.

It’s finally Saturday. I’m so happy this week is over. This year has been going by so quickly. I love it though because the faster it goes the closer I get to dropping this corper title. I’m honestly tired especially after what I went through this week😠.

The highlight of my week despite the chaos was finally hitting and crossing 100 subscribers. I’ve been stuck on 80 subscribers for almost two months. So you can imagine the joy.

My shoulders are high now because I have 111 subscribers, don’t playyyyyyy😝.

To think I was stuck on what to write on. Because I have 100+ subscribers let me give you an advice. I’m not proud, I promise🌚.

The key to being consistent with newsletters is just to show up even when you’re expressing writer’s block. I was stuck on what to put out, but the moment I went to my notepad, ideas started flowing.

I don’t even know if I’m making sense😂. Anyways, byeeee✌🏾.

I’m fineeeee

That’s my automatic response whenever anyone asks “How are you?”

There is something exhausting in the air. Maybe it’s a Nigeria thing. Or a Corper thing. Or perhaps a thing among people in their twenties trying so hard to figure life out.

Some days, I just want to release tears from my eyes but they won’t come. Other days, I just want to scream on top of my voice but my neighbors might suspect something is wrong with me. And there are days, I just want to detach from everything and just stare into space.

I was on my lowest energy on Tuesday. Everything felt annoying. I kept swiping through apps. But nothing was working. My day continued like that till evening.

I accidentally found myself singing a song. Then a thought dropped, why not plug in my earbuds, the volume at the highest and listen to AEO?

I was never really a music person. I didn’t like listening to songs. If you played songs beside me, I would have no choice but to leave that vicinity. Or just stare at you to show my discomfort.

Over the years, I tried to force it. It started with boom play on my first phone, audiomack in my 100lvl, Spotify in my 200lvl (I couldn’t wrap my head as to why people paid to listen to songs) and then, YouTube music.

All these apps apart from YouTube music didn’t last more than three months, I just couldn’t explain but I deleted them. And even though they stayed for almost three months, I could count the number of times I listened to a song.

I used YouTube music until I got my current phone. I still feel YouTube music is a top tier app but I gave into peer pressure and I’m now a Spotify girlie.

I’m now on a monthly subscription, the irony.

AEO was constant all through my up and down journey. A legend for real. Listening to him made me realize that it was not liking songs, I hadn’t just discovered my taste in music.

Back to why we are here because what in the name of digression was that?

I plugged in to AEO, and thank God I was the only one at home because I really sang with my loudest voice. My mood changed instantly.

There’s no assurance I would not experience this again but what I would differently? I would listen to songs because good music is a powerful mood booster.

One thing I’ve been intentionally working on is keeping my mouth shut when I’m not knowledgeable on a topic. Or when something just worked out easily for me.

I won’t sit anyone down to lecture them on how to be a better student in Uni. Because honestly? My academic success was just through God and vibes. I had my downs in school but once it came to academics, it was almost easy. I read weeks/days to exams (there was an exam I was clueless on by 9pm and by 5am the next morning, I could hold a tutorial on it)

I attended almost every class (except in my finals when I already grew wings💀) but reading immediately after class? It was never my thing. I can say I did well as a student. Results may vary though.

I might sit you down and teach you the art of crash reading days to your exam but I wouldn’t want to be a bad influence.

When it comes to topics I have depth and real life experiences in? I’m so loud and hyper about it; loudest if it’s something I had previously read on.

It annoys me watching people confidently dish out “hot takes” on things they’ve only seen on the surface. Or someone who had life relatively easy trying to school others who had it difficult.

Essence of my rants? Let your contribution to the society sometimes be choosing silence and staying open to learn. When you don’t have in-depth knowledge or real life experiences, resist the urge to lecture people.

Yesterday was World Book Day. Happy World Book Day to everyone that loves getting lost in all kinds of books. For me, it’s fictional books. Oh, how I love being a reader.

Book updateee: I’m done reading “Two Weeks by Karen Kingsbury”, a good read I must add and I’m getting into “Masterpiece by Francine Rivers”. The few pages I’ve read were so promising and I can’t wait to see all what it has for me.

It’s almost the end of the day and I’m just here sitting with my thoughts trying to figure out; what’s for this week?

Every creative who consistently puts out valuable content deserves their flowers for real. I’ve always told people around me I can’t see myself as a content creator. It takes so much brainwork, efforts and consistency.

I’m always so fascinated by content creators that are naturally funny, dishes out value, relatable and shows up consistently. How do you do it? This excludes the content creators that are cringe and should probably find their niche somewhere else😂.

For me, even putting something out that makes sense to me and my small audience sometimes feels like a lot. Racking my brain and putting words together feels like a full time job.

I’ve been thinking for a while now; what’s for this week? Not like anyone really cares but it is really a source of joy for me writing on Substack. I don’t have anything in particular to say this week but I went to my notepad and here we are🌚.

You didn’t ask but I started reading my first book of the year; “Two Weeks by Karen Kingsbury”. It’s embarrassing late in the year for someone who claims to love books so much but picking it up again reminds why reading will always be one of my favorite hobbies.

Just joking though. I have never acted before and I honestly don’t think I can act. The closest thing I have ever done to acting was joining the drama club in my secondary school because my sister was a member. I probably changed club the next term.

But what if?

If you have been reading my newsletters, you’ve probably noticed one thing that keeps coming up; crocheting.

I talk about this so much because it made me realize: what if there are a million things God has embedded in me and it just there chilling without me discovering it?

It just takes a YouTube video, yarn, pin, few errors and voila I have created a masterpiece. I don’t plan on making it a business right now or ever. But the beautiful fact that I can make something out of yarn for myself? So so satisfying.

This thought has been lingering in my head for weeks now: what if I have other undiscovered skills that would fund my lifestyle, unlock my inner aesthetics or even impact someone positively?

I have always wanted to learn crocheting since I was in secondary school but for whatever reasons I didn’t start. But you won’t believe I spent less than 5k to get the materials I needed????

Just 5k held me back for almost 6 years? Ewwwwww😂😭. With how things are expensive in Nigeria now. I’m sure it would have been cheaper then.

I don’t want to sound like a motivational speaker but START MESSY. START CONFUSED.

Send emails(even if they get ignored and cry your eyes out 😂😭)

It would really be a waste if everything God has placed in you dies without being discovered. The journey to discovery can be tiring, confusing and frustrating but it gets better with Jesus.

I grew fast on Substack at the beginning. But for almost a month now I’ve had a static growth.

I kept publishing every week, just to keep my streak going but the motivation had quietly slipped away. At some point, my writing started to feel cringe.

Then, I got an email in my inbox with my March stats.

150+ humans read whatever I had to write in March? This meant everything to me and gave me more reasons to keep showing up.

“Rome wasn’t built in a day but they were laying bricks everyday ”.

This is me laying another brick this week not because I am fully motivated but because the foundation is quietly growing with every newsletter I publish.

Jokes on me because I deleted instagram and twitter with the intention of reducing my doomscrolling and actually paying attention to other things. Newsflash? I downloaded them back within 24hours.

You guys won’t believe it I even resulted to watching YouTube shorts. I don’t even want to believe I’m addicted….. so let’s just say I was bored? Or maybe I am addicted?

By the way, I love those moments when I’m so busy and completely forget I own a phone.

Sadly, I realized my life circled around these apps. Because I was really bored. I could have read e-books but I wasn’t feeling it, I could have made something out of crochet but I didn’t have any available yarn. Sleeping was definitely not an option at that moment.

So I gave into the pressure and downloaded these apps back. My initial “seven days off” didn’t even last one full day😔.

I haven’t given up though. It just takes intentional efforts and finding things to keep myself busy so I can leave the internet for you people. I will update you guys as it goessss.

I held my fruit juice on one hand and my phone on the other hand. I don’t even know how it happened but my phone slipped and fell with its back facing the ground.

I thought it was the usual way of my phone falling and nothing happening (my phone doesn’t fall that much sha🌚). But this time, something very tragic happened 😔.

You know those lines that appears on a phone screen when it’s broken? That’s exactly what my screen looks like now. The funny and annoying part? There is no single scratch from the fall on my screen, so how come? I don’t even know but honestly, I’m so sad.

I cried my eyes out and I still have tears on my eyes now, I was literally begging God for a miracle. I drank my fruit juice while crying, I finished it and started crying again.

I don’t know if this is one of those trials where I just have to stay strong, but regardless of my almost gone phone(it will not go in Jesus name, because it’s not even up to a year yet😭), I’m putting my weekly newsletter out because God forbid a girl backs out because of a little breakdown.

Last week, I was crocheting a beret. While putting finishing touches on my beret and cutting the thread, I accidentally touched the wrong one. The whole thing started to loosen. All my hours of work amounted to this?

I didn’t panic. I didn’t cry. I set it aside, occupied my mind with something else and came back to it two days later.

I started again, this time more careful. Although, I didn’t get my desired result, I just resulted to trying again.

I tried again for the third time. I paid more attention to my previous errors and I can say I was satisfied with the result.

Situations that could have made me angry and moody? I’m learning to let them slide. I go about my day instead of letting them hook me down.

Most things really are beyond my control, past mistakes can’t be undone, so why would I let them rent space in my head? Instead, I’m redirecting that energy to taking notes of areas I need to improve.

Every other year since I started growing, I’ve never really taken intentional steps. But this year? I’m taking international steps because I can’t be a better version of myself being idle.

A step at a time to becoming who God wants me to be…..

Life could be chaotic but I try to find joy in the chaos. It’s none of your business though 😂but here are few things that excite me:

• Getting to eat my favorite food or even just thinking about preparing it. Or better still, arriving somewhere and realizing they’re serving my favorite meal?🥺

• The thoughts of eating bread and actually eating it makes me happy 😂❤️.

• Playing dress up with an outfit I imagined and it turns out exactly how I wanted. Jeez, this one excite me so much.

• Learning something I have zero knowledge about and nailing it on the first try. Instant bragging rights 🤏🏽.

• Buying things/adding to cart on Temu😭❤️. This feeling is so filling (the rhyme though 🤏🏽). It is genuinely therapeutic.

• Reading Christian or fiction novels. Oh how I love this (let’s just ignore the fact that I haven’t read in months, okay? I need to get back to my former self).

• Listening to AEO’s songs plugged in at the loudest volume and singing along with my loudest voice alone in a room (Side note: I don’t know who I would end up marrying but one thing I wish for is that AEO performs live for us either “Love Practitioner” or an unreleased song for just the two of us).

• Having a good network. I get irritated easily so a bad network ruins my mood. Well, Airtel has the award for the worst network so going out and realizing I don’t have to use 10 minutes to watch a single reel? It makes me so happyyyy.

These are just few out of many things that excites me. Now imagine all happening in a day?
