It’s technically still summer, occasionally feels like fall, and your calendar somehow goes from absolutely nothing to “grateful you have a Skylight calendar” overnight.

School drop offs. Soccer sidelines. Farmers markets. Lunches in the city. Dinners. Errands. All while the weather refuses to pick a season.

So this week’s edit is a little different: 10 pieces that basically make up a September starter pack.

Not a capsule wardrobe in the very serious internet sense where I’m going to suggest you own 14 neutral items and never shop again. Obviously that is not happening.

This is more about finding pieces that can live a lot of different lives. And the important part: none of these require you to start dressing like it’s 55 degrees when it’s still 78.

The rugby with shorts and flip flops now, jeans and loafers later. The chunky cotton sweater with shorts or sandals now, layered under a jacket in October. The corduroys with a white tee and flip flops while it’s warm, then the rugby and boat shoes when it cools down. Even the jacket works now tossed over something summery and later with all the layers.

That’s really what I want from September clothes: pieces that feel like fall without requiring fall weather.

Whether your September is filled with drop offs and sidelines or farmers markets and lunches in the city, these 10 pieces can get you through all of it—and keep working well beyond September.

1. The Rugby

I love stealing from the men’s department, and a rugby is one of those pieces that immediately makes an outfit more interesting without actually requiring you to do anything.

This one has the exact slightly oversized, old-school feel I want, and the colors are SO good.

Now: Shorts and flip flops. Throw it over your shoulders if it’s too warm to actually wear it.

Later: Jeans and boat shoes, the corduroys, or layered under the DÔEN jacket.

It feels very fall without actually requiring you to dress for fall yet.

2. The White Button-Down

Perhaps not groundbreaking, but there is a reason I keep coming back to an oversized white button-down.

And I specifically want it oversized. I don’t want my white button-down looking too corporate or precious.

Now: Open over a tank with shorts and flip flops, sleeves rolled up, bathing suit underneath if September is still giving us beach days.

Later: Half tucked into jeans with the belt, worn with the corduroys or layered under the sweater and jacket.

This is the piece that makes the rest of the capsule work harder.

3. The Big Brown Sweater

This is exactly the kind of sweater I want for early fall because it gives you the LOOK of fall without requiring actual cashmere-weather temperatures.

And because it’s cotton, you can start wearing it much earlier than your heavy winter sweaters. And this is a mockneck sweater that hasn’t gone viral.. yet.

Now: With shorts, bare legs and sandals or flip flops. Wear it in the morning, throw it over your shoulders by noon.

Later: With the olive cords, jeans, boat shoes and eventually layered under a jacket.

The chocolate brown also looks so good with the olive, denim and cedar red bag.

4. The Corduroy Pants

Maybe my favorite sleeper item in the whole edit.

They give you texture and fall color without being heavy, which is exactly what I want in September.

Now: White tee, tank or button-down and flip flops. Almost treat them like your summer pants, just in a much more fall-feeling fabric.

Later: Rugby and boat shoes, the brown sweater, denim top or jacket.

They’re also exactly the type of pant that makes you look considerably more put together than the amount of effort involved.

5. The Denim Top

I still get comments on my videos from last fall asking about my denim tie neck top… so, here’s one that isn’t sold out.

The tie neck gives it enough personality that you really don’t have to style much around it.

Now: With shorts or lightweight pants and a sandal.

Later: Denim-on-denim with the Zoe jeans—which I fully support—or with the olive corduroys and a loafer or boat shoe.

It can do school pickup, but it can also very easily go to dinner.

6. The Jacket

The splurge of the edit and also the piece that pulls basically everything together.

The blue with the brown collar feels very New England September to me without being overly literal about it.

Now: Toss it over a white tee or tank with shorts and sandals on a cooler morning or night.

Later: Rugby underneath, jeans, corduroys, sweater, boat shoes—the whole situation.

It’s one of those jackets that makes whatever you’re already wearing look like an outfit.

Also: pockets. Always important.

7. The Jeans

I wanted the denim in this capsule to have a little more personality than another basic straight-leg jean. I wore these in a recent video about a sweater and more people cared about the jeans instead.

The utility pockets and subtle barrel shape do that without making them difficult to wear.

Now: White tee or button-down with flip flops. Denim with flip flops in September is one of my favorite combinations because it says fall without committing.

Later: Rugby, sweater, DÔEN jacket, belt and boat shoes.

These are your wear three times in one week and hope nobody notices jeans.

8. The Belt

Accessories are what keep a mini capsule from actually LOOKING like a mini capsule.

I love a concho and I love this price point.

Now: Add it to jeans with a white tee and flip flops and suddenly you did something.

Later: Button-down tucked into the cords, denim-on-denim, or peeking out underneath the chunky sweater.

This is the kind of thing that makes basics not feel basic.

9. The Boat Shoe

Boat shoes are back, and I am fully participating.

I particularly like these because they’re slim and feel more like an actual styling choice than something you grabbed before getting on a boat.

And while the rest of this edit is very much wear it with your flip flops until further notice, these are the shoe I’d start swapping in when you want an outfit to feel a little more September.

Rugby + jeans + boat shoes is the obvious answer, but I actually like them even more with the olive cords and oversized white button-down.

Very September. Very New England. Very easy.

10. The Bag

And THIS is why I didn’t want the entire capsule to be brown, navy, olive and white.

The cedar red is basically a neutral as far as I’m concerned, but it gives every outfit here that one little thing that makes it feel styled.

And unlike the clothes, there’s no waiting for the weather with this one.

Carry it now with a white tee, jeans and flip flops. Carry it later with the rugby, brown sweater or jacket. I especially love it against navy and chocolate brown.

It makes even the most basic outfit feel finished.

The point of all of this

I think sometimes we get so excited for fall clothes that we forget September is still very much a transitional month.

You don’t need to wait for the first 60-degree day to start wearing the things you’re excited about. Wear the sweater with shorts. Wear the corduroys with flip flops. Throw the rugby over your shoulders. Wear the fall bag with a white tee.

Then, as the temperature drops, the exact same 10 pieces start mixing together in completely different ways.

That’s what I want from my closet right now.

Something for the 7:45 AM drop off. Something for the sidelines. Something for a Saturday farmers market. Something for lunch in the city. And preferably, a lot of things that work for all four depending on how you style them.

Because the calendar is full enough. Getting dressed doesn’t need to be another logistical challenge.

One week in and that has… not exactly been the case.

And honestly, that’s okay. I’ve been prioritizing other things, which is kind of the whole point of taking this time off. I’m not trying to turn my sabbatical into another thing I need to be productive at.

But it has made it VERY clear which things in my closet I actually reach for when I want to be comfortable, get out the door quickly and still feel somewhat put together.

So, naturally, an Off-Duty Edit.

These are the 10 things I’ve actually been living in lately.

1. THE PERFECT WHITE TANK

A good white tank is one of those incredibly boring purchases that somehow gets worn more than everything exciting in your closet.

I love this one because it’s fitted enough to look good with all of the looser bottoms I’ve been wearing lately. Denim shorts, track shorts, lounge pants — done. And once it cools down, it’ll be just as good under a cardigan or jacket.

2. THE DENIM BERMUDAS

I know Bermuda shorts can be divisive, but I am firmly on board.

They give you the ease of denim shorts without feeling quite as… shorts-y? Tank and flip-flops now, sweatshirt and flats when it starts getting cooler. Very easy.

3. THE RED TRACK SHORTS

Apparently my sabbatical wardrobe needed red track shorts.

These are exactly the kind of thing I want to throw on with a white tank, sweatshirt or oversized button-down and somehow feel like I made an outfit even though I absolutely did not.

Also: the red. You know I love a little red.

4. THE SEERSUCKER PANTS

The ultimate “I’m wearing real pants” pants.

They’re lightweight, easy and comfortable enough for hanging around the house, but I can also throw on a tank and sandals and leave without changing. Which, at this point, is basically my entire dressing philosophy.

5. THE LOUNGE PANTS

These might genuinely be the softest things I’ve ever put on my body. They truly feel like wearing a cloud.

I realize that sounds dramatic for a pair of lounge pants, but I stand by it. They’re what I reach for when I want to be as comfortable as humanly possible, and somehow they still look put together enough that I don’t feel like I’m wearing pajamas out of the house.

If my sabbatical had an official pant, it would probably be these.

6. THE SWEAT SET

This is probably the most accurate representation of my sabbatical wardrobe so far.

The sweatshirt is the perfect throw-on layer, but I’ve been wearing it with the matching sweat shorts and I love them even more together. Comfortable enough to wear around the house, but still feels like an actual outfit when I need to leave.

Basically, matching sets doing what they do best: making it look like I tried harder than I did.

7. THE COBALT FLATS

Even my off-duty wardrobe needs a little color.

I love that these are cobalt — they make the most basic tank-and-shorts situation feel like an actual outfit without requiring any additional effort. And a woven flat is perfect for this weird end-of-summer stretch when I’m not ready for fall shoes but occasionally need something other than a flip-flop.

Easy, comfortable, but way more interesting than a neutral.

8. THE FLIP-FLOPS

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. It is still August.

I will always have a pair of Havaianas in rotation. Beach, boat, errands, pool, school pickup — there are approximately 900 situations where these are the correct shoe.

9. THE PAJAMAS

It would be dishonest to write an Off-Duty Edit without including pajamas.

LAKE has been a longtime favorite because they’re actually pajamas I look forward to putting on. And considering how much time I have apparently decided to spend in pajamas during this sabbatical, cost per wear is looking excellent.

10. THE SUNSCREEN

I had plans for my sabbatical self. She had routines. She got dressed. Maybe she even put on makeup before leaving the house.

Instead, I’ve apparently decided sunscreen counts as makeup.

And for August, I’m going with it.

So that’s the Off-Duty Edit: the 10 things I keep grabbing during this slightly slower season. Nothing revolutionary, nothing particularly complicated — just really good things that make getting dressed (when I actually do it) very easy.

Maybe by week two I’ll put on a real outfit. No promises.

This started out as an article about tips for shopping at Zara and somehow turned into a much bigger conversation about shopping for your body type.

Which, honestly, makes sense.

I gave myself 30 minutes at Zara this week. I tried on a lot, genuinely liked a lot, bought a few things and — perhaps most impressively — put back a lot of things I also liked.

I’m not always one to exercise restraint, so let’s be proud of this growth.

But looking back at everything I tried on, I realized that my biggest “shopping tip” really has nothing to do with Zara.

Shopping gets so much easier when you stop asking:

“Is this cute?”

and start asking:

“Is this cute on me?”

Those are VERY different questions.

Zara is a treasure hunt

You cannot walk into Zara expecting the store to make sense. There are things everywhere, the website somehow contains both everything and nothing, and the mannequin will inevitably be wearing the best jacket you’ve ever seen that no one can locate.

I do a fast lap, grab anything that catches my eye and try it on.

Zara is one of those places where something completely unremarkable on the hanger can be incredible on — and vice versa. I also bring multiple sizes into the dressing room because Zara sizing is not a place where I’m interested in protecting my ego.

The number on the tag is between Zara and God.

But the real trick is knowing what works on you

I recently went down the body-type rabbit hole, and while I don’t think anyone needs a system telling them what they’re “allowed” to wear, I do think understanding what works on your body makes shopping so much easier.

I’ve figured out a few things about myself over the years: I don’t like myself in V-necks, I prefer low-rise over high-rise, oversized works for me, and as much as I love the idea of a slip dress, they’re just not flattering on me. Somehow something that is literally designed to skim the body completely drowns me.

Those aren’t rules about what I should wear. They’re just things I know about myself now.

And that means I’m much less likely to get talked into something because it’s trending, looks amazing on someone else or looks incredible hanging on the rack.

You don’t need to know your exact Kibbe type or memorize a body-shape chart. Just pay attention to the patterns.

What necklines do you always reach for? Where do you like your pants to sit? Do you feel better in something fitted or with more volume? Where do you want a jacket to hit?

Your dressing-room history is basically a giant pile of data. Use it.

Pay attention to proportion more than size

Something can technically fit and still look wrong.

A jacket can hit two inches too low. Pants can have the wrong rise. A top can have so much volume that you disappear underneath it.

When something feels “off,” I look at proportion first: shoulders, waist, hemline and volume.

Sometimes tucking a shirt, pushing up a sleeve or trying another size fixes everything.

Sometimes the garment simply isn’t cut for you.

That is also an answer.

Stop trying to make the wrong thing work

If you have to stand a certain way, pull it down, push it up, imagine different underwear, promise yourself you’ll tailor it AND convince yourself it’ll somehow look better at home…

Put it back.

I’ve bought way too many things because I loved the idea of them.

I’m trying to get better at recognizing the difference between:

I love this.

and

I want to be someone who wears this.

Zara is particularly dangerous for the second category.

Take a picture

I do this partly because it’s my job, but everyone should do it.

I can be convinced something is fantastic in the mirror and then look at the photo two minutes later and immediately know it’s a no. And, sometimes, the opposite!

It also means if I leave something behind and am still thinking about it three days later, I can look at how it actually fit instead of the fictionalized version I’ve created in my head.

You are allowed to leave something you like

THIS is my personal area of growth.

I liked the jacket I tried on.

I did not buy the jacket.

I’m trying to move beyond “Do I like it?” and ask: Do I like it enough? Do I already own something similar? Can I immediately picture multiple ways to wear it? Would I choose it over things already in my closet?

And most importantly:

If I leave without it, am I going to care tomorrow?

If yes, Zara has a website. Nothing has to happen right now.

Anyways, here’s what I tried on today

Some of it came home with me, and some of it just wasn’t right for MY body — but that doesn’t mean it won’t be right for yours.

So I’m linking it all.

Because really, that’s the entire point of this post: “not for me” doesn’t mean “not good.” Something I immediately put back might be the exact thing that works on you.

And apparently that’s what started as a post about how to shop Zara and ended as a post about how to shop for yourself.

I scroll Etsy like other people scroll TikTok.

At this point, this is officially a series. I just posted my third Etsy finds video, and considering I have approximately 400 more things saved, I don’t see it ending anytime soon.

I love Etsy because I don’t necessarily go there looking for something specific. I go there to dig. There is a lot to scroll through, but then you find the weird little ring, the perfect pair of linen pants, a scarf you absolutely did not need to know existed or, in my current case, the counter stools you suddenly become convinced belong in your new kitchen.

And those are always the things I end up loving the most — the pieces that don’t feel like everyone else saw them on the same new-arrivals page that week.

So yes, the Etsy series will continue. Consider this the written version of round three.

The Dalmatian Stone Ring

This was an immediate save.

I love the Dalmatian stone, the chunky shape and the gold detail — and it’s under $60.

It looks like something you’d find in a very cool little jewelry store on vacation and then spend the rest of the trip feeling extremely pleased with yourself for finding.

The Wood Counter Stools

A brief home renovation interruption.

These are very high on my list for the new kitchen. I love that they feel old and slightly European without looking overly precious. Love the idea of a cute fabric cushion on the seat.

You can choose your stain, which is both the best part and the reason I haven’t ordered them yet. I need to make sure the wood works with everything else happening in the kitchen before I commit.

Naturally, this means I will look at approximately 14 wood samples first.

The Linen Side-Tie Pants

I came for the pants and then saw the top.

Classic.

The little ties down the side are what got me. I love the whole set together, but I also think the pants would be so good with a white tank now and a sweater once it starts cooling down.

Very August: still summer, but I’m ready for my clothes to get interesting again.

The Horn + Turquoise Cuff

I love a bone/horn cuff. I love turquoise.

Put them together and I’m a happy girl.

This is the kind of jewelry I love because you can wear the most basic outfit imaginable and suddenly it looks intentional.

The Fringe Scarf

This may be too good to be true.

But the reviews look good, so I’m going to try it.

The cranes! The colors! The fringe!

I’m already mentally wearing it with a navy sweater, jeans and loafers this fall. If it’s as good in person as it looks online, this could be one of my favorite finds from this entire round.

I will report back.

The Gold Name Ring

I had a brass ring made for me at Epcot that looked like this, and I loved it until my finger turned green.

So naturally finding a 14-karat gold version has convinced me I may need an upgrade.

It’s chunky and personal and a little weird, which is basically my jewelry criteria.

The Shell Earrings

I really should not be buying any more shell jewelry this summer.

I know.

But these just scratch my brain in such a good way.

They’re mismatched and strange and pretty and don’t feel like traditional shell jewelry at all. Also, I’ve decided shell jewelry is year-round, so we can move on.

The Velvet Clutch

Now we’re getting into fall.

I am obsessed with this color combination — the mustard velvet with the turquoise tassel is SO good.

And I think this is something you’d end up wearing much more than you’d expect. Obviously with a dress for a wedding or party, but I really love a clutch like this with jeans, a white shirt and a blazer.

The Fish Charm Necklace

Obviously I love charms.

Obviously I love fish charms.

But I especially like this version going into fall. The darker beads and chunky gold hardware make it feel less beachy and more like something collected over time.

I’d wear it right over a crewneck sweater.

And yes, there will be a round four.

Honestly, I think part of the reason I’ve loved making these videos so much is that they give me an excuse to do something I was already doing anyway: scrolling Etsy for sport.

So I’m going to keep the series going.

I’ll keep digging through the pages of questionable stuff to find the weird little gems, and when I’ve accumulated enough things that I desperately need everyone else to see, I’ll make the next one.

SHOP ETSY FINDS: ROUND THREE

The stores start loading in all the fall clothes and suddenly you’re looking at suede jackets, sweaters and boots while you’re sitting there in a tank top and shorts.

It feels like you have to commit to fall way too early. And I don’t even really know what fall clothes I need yet because I haven’t transitioned my closet. And I haven’t transitioned my closet because I don’t want to.

It’s August. I’m still wearing my summer clothes and would actually like to continue doing that.

So when I start looking at fall new arrivals right now, I inevitably have the same conversation with myself:

Do I already own something like this?

Probably.

Where is it?

No idea.

Do I want to go digging through bins of sweaters to find out?

Absolutely not.

But the new arrivals are good, and obviously I’m still looking.

So this week’s Edit is 10 things you can incorporate into your wardrobe right now AND keep wearing into fall.

Things that work with the tank tops, white dresses, sandals and summer clothes you’re actually wearing today, but will still make sense once you finally give in and transition your closet.

Basically: fall shopping without having to dress for fall yet.

1. The Chocolate Top

Chocolate brown feels very fall, but silk organza does not require fall weather. I love that this gives you the color we’re all starting to want without requiring a single additional layer.

It’s also just a really good top.

How to wear now: With white pants or shorts, a simple sandal and gold jewelry. Chocolate brown with summer white is one of my favorite combinations right now.

How to wear in fall: With jeans, the statement belt and a suede jacket or blazer. Same top, but completely different once you start adding heavier textures.

2. The Statement Belt

A belt might be the easiest way to start making your summer clothes feel slightly more fall without actually changing what you’re wearing.

I love the hardware on this one because it does enough to make a very simple outfit feel more interesting.

How to wear now: Over a white dress or with jeans and a tank. Basically, use it to make something you’ve already worn 12 times this summer feel new again.

How to wear in fall: With denim or trousers, a tucked-in knit and loafers. And eventually over a blazer or jacket when we’re actually layering again.

3. The Printed Jacket

I realize including a jacket after everything I just said sounds slightly hypocritical, but this one gets a pass.

It’s lightweight enough to actually wear on a cooler August night, and I love the blue paisley because it doesn’t immediately scream FALL JACKET. It gives you the idea of fall without going full brown barn jacket quite yet.

How to wear now: Thrown over a white dress with sandals or over a tank and shorts for a cooler night.

How to wear in fall: With jeans, a simple knit and loafers. I also love it with red or chocolate brown once we start getting into more fall colors.

4. The Shell Necklace

This one is obviously very summer — and that’s exactly why I like it here.

I don’t think you need to stop wearing all of your summer jewelry just because the rest of your outfit starts getting heavier. I actually think a shell necklace gets more interesting when the rest of the outfit isn’t remotely beachy.

How to wear now: With a white dress, tank top, linen or basically anything else you’ve been wearing all summer.

How to wear in fall: With chocolate brown, chambray or over a knit. The contrast is what makes it good.

5. The Wide-Leg Jeans

Jeans are probably the safest thing to buy during this weird shopping period because you’re going to wear them now, you’re going to wear them in October, and you’re probably going to wear them six months from now.

I love the long, wide-leg shape of these Reformation ones. They feel current without feeling like something I’m going to be over in five minutes.

How to wear now: With a tank or tiny tee, the gold flats and the statement belt. Keep everything else really simple.

How to wear in fall: With the chambray shirt, belt and jacket. Or a sweater and loafer once the weather finally cooperates.

6. The Metallic Flats

I have decided metallic shoes are a neutral, and I’m sticking with it.

These work perfectly with all the summer things you’re already wearing, but I think they’ll be even better once we’re back into denim, navy, chocolate brown and plaid.

And unlike buying boots in August, you can actually put them on immediately.

How to wear now: With a white dress, jeans and a tank, or even shorts and an oversized button-down. Basically anywhere you’d normally wear a sandal.

How to wear in fall: With full-length denim, trousers, a sweater or the printed jacket. Gold against all of those heavier fall colors and textures is going to be so good.

7. The White Dress

I have absolutely zero intention of packing away white after Labor Day.

This STAUD dress is perfect now exactly as it is, but I actually think it’s going to get more interesting when you start putting fall pieces around it.

How to wear now: Keep it simple. Gold flats, the shell necklace, sunglasses. Done.

How to wear in fall: Add the statement belt and printed jacket, then eventually swap the flats for boots when it gets colder.

I love pieces where you don’t necessarily change the item when the season changes — you just change everything around it.

8. The Red Pants

If I’m not ready to transition my closet, I am definitely not ready to transition my entire wardrobe into brown.

These are red, cotton poplin and actually wearable in August. And I love having one really strong color mixed into all of the denim, chocolate and suede we’re starting to see everywhere.

How to wear now: With a white tank, the gold flats and maybe the shell necklace. Super simple because the pants are already doing enough.

How to wear in fall: With the cropped chambray shirt and loafers or a navy knit and jacket. I also really love red with chocolate brown for fall.

9. The Suede Bag

This might be the perfect August purchase because it’s a bright blue suede bag.

The color feels summer. The suede feels fall.

It might actually be the entire premise of this Edit in one item.

How to wear now: With summer whites. White dress, white jeans, denim shorts — whatever. Let the cobalt be the thing that makes the outfit.

How to wear in fall: With denim, chocolate brown, camel or navy. I love the idea of keeping one really bright color in the middle of an otherwise very fall outfit.

And I would much rather buy a cobalt suede bag than convince myself I need another brown bag just because September is coming.

10. The Chambray Shirt

Chambray requires basically no seasonal decision-making, which makes it perfect for right now.

I like the cropped, boxier shape of this Ralph Lauren one because it feels like an actual addition to your closet rather than another blue button-down you may or may not already own somewhere.

How to wear now: With the red poplin pants, white shorts or open over the white dress. Sleeves rolled, a few buttons undone, very much still summer.

How to wear in fall: With the wide-leg jeans, statement belt and loafers. Or layered under the printed jacket once we can comfortably wear more than one layer of clothing again.

Eventually I’ll transition my closet.

I’ll pull out the sweaters. I’ll remember which jackets I bought last year. I’ll discover three things I completely forgot I owned and feel like I just went shopping for free.

But not yet.

For now, I’m shopping in the middle: things that feel a little bit like where we’re headed but still make sense for the season we’re actually in.

Because I would like to participate in the fall new arrivals.

I would just also like to keep wearing my tank top and shorts.

… and I honestly really like my job, so this is not an I’m escaping corporate America and finding myself situation. I will, in fact, be returning.

But I have a full month off. Thirty days without organizing my life around my work calendar, and I have been thinking about what I want to do with them for approximately six months.

Naturally, I have decided to use this relaxing sabbatical to pack up my entire house, move my family into a rental, prepare for a major renovation, squeeze every last drop out of summer with my kids, get my own life somewhat together and rethink my entire content strategy going into fall.

Very restful. Very European.

But I don’t want to turn 30 days off into a different version of work. I also don’t want to get to the end of it and realize I spent the entire month researching cabinet hardware and driving around with a trunk full of things I meant to donate.

I want to actually use this time.

Not necessarily to accomplish more, but to have a little more space for all the parts of my life that usually have to fit around everything else.

So I need a plan.

Obviously.

The 30-day plan

I know myself well enough to know that “I’m just going to see where the day takes me” is not going to work.

Where the day will take me is directly to my phone, where I will somehow end up looking at an English woman’s mudroom on Pinterest and deciding that the thing currently missing from my life is an antique pine bench.

Then it will be 11:47.

So I want each day to have a very loose framework.

Every day, I want to do something for me, something for my house, something with my kids, something for my content and something that makes life easier when this month is over.

And I really want to emphasize the word something.

This is not 75 Hard: Sabbatical Edition.

Some days the house goal might be packing an entire room. Other days it might be finally getting the bag of clothes that has been sitting by my door for three weeks to the donation center.

Something for me could be a workout. It could also be sitting outside with an iced coffee and nobody asking me where their shoes are.

Something with my kids could be a full beach day. It could also be letting them stay up too late and eating ice cream outside.

The goal isn’t to check five enormous things off a list every day.

It’s just to make sure that when these 30 days are over, I didn’t accidentally spend all of them doing one thing.

Because I absolutely would.

GOAL #1: Get myself back on my own list.

I don’t have some dramatic personal transformation planned for these 30 days.

There will be no 5 a.m. wakeups.

There will be no lemon water.

There will be no person on Instagram convincing me that my life would change if I simply started rebounding for 11 minutes every morning.

I mostly want to have enough space in my day to do the extremely normal things that somehow feel luxurious when life is busy.

I want to go on morning walks.

I want to read actual books.

I want to get dressed every day, even if I’m not going anywhere particularly interesting, because I genuinely feel better when I put on an outfit I like.

I want to go to lunch with a friend on a Wednesday.

I want to cook something because I saw it and it looked good, not because it can be made in 23 minutes while I’m simultaneously emptying the dishwasher.

I want to take better care of all of the tiny life-admin things I constantly push off. Make the appointments. Return the things. Organize the photos. Deal with the pile.

Nothing groundbreaking.

I just want to feel slightly less like I am constantly catching up with my own life.

And I want to leave some white space.

This is probably going to be the hardest part for me.

If I have three free hours, my instinct is to immediately find something productive to put in those three hours.

I want to get a little better at not doing that.

GOAL #2: Touch basically every single thing we own.

Here’s where things get slightly less sabbatical-y.

We are moving out of our house for six months while we renovate.

Which means that sometime over the next 30 days, basically everything we own needs to go into one of three categories:

Coming to the rental.

Going into storage.

Leaving this family forever.

I have decided that if I have to physically touch every object we own anyway, I might as well use this as the world’s most aggressive whole-house audit.

Because there is something completely insane about packing an object you don’t like, paying to store it for six months, moving it back into your newly renovated house and then deciding you still don’t like it.

I’m trying to be ruthless.

Clothes we don’t wear.

Toys nobody plays with.

Kitchen things I have apparently been saving for my future career as a caterer.

The horrifying drawer of mystery chargers.

The 900 pieces of children’s art that I have absolutely no emotional ability to throw away but also cannot reasonably store until I’m 80.

Everything.

And I don’t want to do this in one horrible, frantic week right before we move.

My goal is to chip away at it every day.

A closet.

A cabinet.

A category.

One section of a room.

Thirty days is actually a lot of time if you do a little bit every single day.

At least that’s what I’m telling myself.

GOAL #3: Actually think through the renovation instead of making 4,000 isolated pretty decisions.

This is obviously the fun part.

We are finally renovating our house, and I have approximately nine million ideas.

The problem is that I don’t want to make a house full of individually beautiful decisions that don’t actually make sense together.

I want to use this month to really think through how we live.

Not just: Do I like this tile?

But: Where do backpacks go?

Where do shoes go?

Where does everyone throw their stuff when they walk through the door?

Where do we actually sit?

Where do the kids play?

Where do I hide all of the things that Pinterest kitchens apparently don’t need, like chargers and mail and 14 water bottles?

I want our house to feel beautiful, obviously. But I also want it to make our life easier.

I want the family room to be somewhere everyone actually wants to hang out.

I want our bedroom to somehow land in the very specific universe of mid-century modern meets surfer house meets Nancy Meyers meets Ralph Lauren — which sounds completely unhinged when written down but makes perfect sense in my head.

I want to think through the backyard so there is a real outdoor dining area, a place for a sofa and chairs, and little New England gardens that look charming and established and not like someone panic-ordered 37 hydrangeas.

I want to make decisions once and feel good about them instead of reopening the conversation every time I see a different kitchen on Instagram.

And I want to get as much of that thinking done now as I can.

Because I have been warned that there will come a point in this renovation when someone calls me at 8:13 a.m. and asks me to choose between two nearly identical shades of grout immediately.

I would like Future Me to be prepared.

GOAL #4: Make the rental feel like our house.

We are going to be in the rental for six months.

Which is long enough that I refuse to spend the entire time feeling like we’re camping.

I don’t need to decorate an entire temporary house. I do, however, want it to feel like us.

Especially for the girls.

Their bedding is coming. Their books are coming. Their favorite things are coming.

I want their rooms to feel familiar.

I want our regular routines to continue.

I want to unpack enough that we don’t spend six months saying, “I think that’s in storage.”

I also want to be thoughtful about what comes with us because this feels like a weirdly great experiment.

What do we actually need?

What things do we miss?

What things sit in storage for six months and we never think about once?

That seems like fairly valuable information before moving everything back into the house.

GOAL #5: Refuse to acknowledge that August is the end of summer.

This one is extremely important.

August gets terrible PR.

The second August 1 hits, everyone starts talking about fall.

Back to school! Sweaters! Boots! Pumpkins!

Meanwhile it is 84 degrees outside and I am still trying to figure out when we’re having lobster rolls.

I have said this before and I will say it again:

If you let August occupy your mind as the Sunday of summer, you’re doing it wrong.

And one of the things I am most excited about during these 30 days is getting extra summer time with my kids.

Not necessarily giant activities.

I want the minutes.

The extra 30 minutes at the beach because I don’t have to get home for a meeting.

The morning where we don’t have to rush.

The random afternoon swim.

The ice cream run after dinner.

The friend who texts at 4:30 asking if we want to come over and instead of looking at tomorrow’s calendar, we just go.

I want a family boat day that turns into a boat night.

I want a beach dinner with fresh oysters.

I want to make lobster rolls at home.

I want morning walks.

I want more nights with friends.

And I really want to pick a random place within driving distance and take the girls for a spontaneous overnight — which is objectively a strange goal for someone who is simultaneously complaining about having to pack, but here we are.

I know how quickly the rhythm changes once September hits.

So for 30 days, I want to say yes to summer as much as possible.

GOAL #6: Figure out what I actually want to do with my content.

This is the other big one.

I have been thinking a lot about my content lately.

Not in an existential Who am I on the internet? way.

More like: Okay, this has become a real thing. What do I actually want to do with it?

Because for a long time, my content strategy has basically been:

Have idea.
Make thing.
Post thing.
Immediately start wondering what I’m going to post next.

Very sophisticated operation.

And I actually think taking a little space from my normal work schedule gives me an opportunity to zoom out.

I want to look at what I’ve posted over the past year.

What did I love making?

What did people respond to?

What do people actually come to me for?

What feels distinctly me versus something I could see on 400 other accounts?

What am I making because I genuinely enjoy it?

And what am I making because somewhere along the way Instagram convinced all of us that we need to operate a 24-hour multimedia company from our iPhones?

I know there are things I want to keep building.

The Edit.

Outfits, but in a way that feels useful and not just here are clothes on my body today.

Home and the renovation, because obviously you are all about to be subjected to an absolutely unreasonable amount of that.

Travel.

Things I own and love enough to tell everyone about.

The weird little micro-trends I can’t stop noticing.

And more of the real-life stuff that doesn’t necessarily fit neatly into one category but is usually the stuff I like sharing the most.

I want to figure out what my recurring series are.

I want to think about what belongs on Instagram versus TikTok versus Substack.

I want to get ahead on ideas instead of constantly creating from zero.

And I want to go into fall with an actual plan.

Not a plan that makes this feel like another job.

That would defeat the entire purpose.

I just want enough structure that I can be more creative inside of it.

I want to know what my things are.

GOAL #7: Do favors for September Me.

Every day, I want to do at least one thing that Future Me will be annoyingly grateful for.

This category is not sexy.

It’s appointments.

Returns.

Back-to-school stuff.

Organizing.

Moving logistics.

Renovation lists.

The random administrative task I have moved from one to-do list to another approximately 19 times.

I want to slowly eliminate the things that take up a tiny amount of space in my brain every single day.

Because September is going to be chaotic.

We’ll be settling into the rental. The renovation will be underway. School will be starting. I’ll be going back to work.

I don’t need September Me wondering why August Me, who HAD THIRTY DAYS, couldn’t return a package.

She would be furious.

The actual goal

If you read all of this, it sounds like I am trying to accomplish an enormous amount in 30 days.

And maybe I am.

But the real goal isn’t to finish some giant checklist.

I want to feel different at the end of the month.

I want less stuff.

I want our move to feel manageable.

I want to be excited about the house we’re creating.

I want the rental to feel like home.

I want to have spent a slightly irresponsible amount of time outside with my kids.

I want to feel clear and excited about my content going into fall.

I want to have done some things purely because I wanted to do them.

And I want to feel like I actually experienced these 30 days instead of racing through them trying to make them productive.

So that’s the sabbatical.

Something for me.

Something for the house.

Something with my kids.

Something creative.

Something for Future Me.

Every day.

And if there are also days where I accomplish absolutely none of those things and sit on the beach until 6 p.m.? That counts too.

I have 30 days to get my house packed, my renovation organized, my content strategy figured out, spend as much summer as possible with my girls and maybe get my own life slightly more organized in the process.

And believe me, I’ll definitely be enjoying a few extra spicy margs along the way.

Starting tonight.

There is something about saving 6.25% that can make a person completely lose perspective.

Would I ordinarily describe a $1,000+ coat as a responsible financial decision? Probably not. But tell me I don’t have to pay sales tax on it and suddenly I’m Warren Buffett.

So, naturally, I started making a list of things I’d buy during tax-free weekend.

Except somewhere along the way, this stopped being a tax-free weekend shopping list and became half my fall wish list, half things I already own and would absolutely buy again.

Which, actually, feels more useful.

I don’t think tax-free weekend is particularly exciting if you’re using it to save $4 on something you didn’t really want in the first place. But something you’ve been thinking about for months? A forever piece? Or something you already own, love, and can confidently tell someone else is worth buying?

Now we’re talking.

Here are my 10.

1. The Tory Burch Lee Radziwill

This is currently very high on my fall wish list.

I love a bag that feels like it could have existed 30 years ago and will still look good 30 years from now, and the Lee Radziwill is exactly that. Structured without feeling too polished, very good with jeans, even better with a big coat.

It’s also precisely the kind of purchase that makes tax-free weekend math feel compelling.

Do I need a new bag? We aren’t asking that question today.

2. The Veronica Beard Blue Suede Barn Jacket

If you told me I needed another barn jacket, I would have told you absolutely not.

Then someone made one in blue suede.

This is maybe my favorite thing on the entire wish-list side. The shape is classic and slightly outdoorsy, but the blue suede completely changes it. It feels like something you’d find vintage and then refuse to tell anyone where you got it.

My fall wardrobe tends to wander dangerously close to becoming entirely brown, navy, denim and cream, so I’m considering this my attempt at color.

Blue counts.

3. STAUD Boots

These are firmly in the “I own them and would buy them again” category.

And I need to specifically call out that they actually stay up on your leg.

If you’ve ever spent an entire day subtly pulling a pair of tall boots back up toward your knees, you know this is not a small detail. These stay where they’re supposed to stay, they’re comfortable, and they somehow work with almost everything I want to wear in the fall — dresses, skirts, jeans, big sweaters.

I’m linking the pair I actually own, not the suede version, because those are the ones I can personally vouch for.

A very good boot. No constant hoisting required.

4. A Really, Really Good Cashmere Sweater

There are sweaters and then there are sweaters.

The kind where the cashmere is thick, the sleeves are slightly too long, the shape is perfect and somehow jeans and a sweater suddenly qualifies as an outfit.

Khaite makes the version currently occupying space in my brain.

This is exactly what I mean by using tax-free weekend for something you actually want. I’m not buying twelve sweaters because they’re tax-free. I want the one really good sweater I’ll wear constantly from October through April.

5. A Dorsey Tennis Necklace

This is in the “things I own and would buy again” camp.

My favorite kind of jewelry is jewelry you don’t save for anything. Tennis necklaces with a white tee. Diamonds with a sweatshirt. Something sparkly at 9 a.m. for absolutely no reason.

Dorsey does this particularly well because you get the look and feel of fine jewelry without requiring fine-jewelry-level life decisions.

If you’re waiting for an occasion to wear a tennis necklace, consider Tuesday the occasion.

6. The Ralph Lauren Concho Belt

Another one I already own — and one of the best examples of something that has actually earned staple status in my wardrobe.

I wear this constantly. With jeans, over dresses, with a white button-down, with an oversized sweater — basically anytime an outfit feels like it needs something.

It makes the most normal clothes in my closet feel more interesting without requiring me to buy an entirely new outfit.

And honestly, that’s becoming a bigger part of how I want to shop: fewer things that need a whole look built around them, more things that make everything I already own better.

7. The La DoubleJ Foulard

Speaking of making normal clothes more interesting.

This scarf is completely unnecessary and therefore one of my favorite things on the wish list.

Red, patterned, fringed, slightly dramatic. Tie it around your neck, throw it over your shoulders, put it in your hair, tie it onto a bag.

I love pieces that look like you picked them up somewhere interesting rather than ordered an entire outfit from the New Arrivals page.

This is that.

8. Diamond Studs

A pair of really good diamond studs is another one of those things that isn’t particularly groundbreaking, which is exactly the point.

You’ll have them forever. You can wear them with everything. They don’t belong to a season or a trend or a specific outfit.

I’ve been looking at a pair of two-carat lab-grown diamond studs from Brilliant Earth, and this is where 6.25% actually starts to mean something.

Saving a few dollars on a T-shirt? Fine.

Saving more than $100 on something you’ll theoretically wear for years?

I have suddenly become an economist again.

9. The TOTEME Trench

“Everyone needs a trench” is one of those fashion rules that I usually find annoying.

But I do want this trench.

It’s oversized without swallowing you, classic without feeling boring, and exactly what I want to throw over everything once summer starts doing that thing where it’s 78 degrees at lunch and 57 by dinner.

I also love a piece that requires almost no styling. Jeans, tee, trench. Done.

The older I get, the more those are the clothes I actually want.

10. The Helix Cooling Mattress Topper

Plot twist: maybe the thing I recommend most on this entire list is a mattress topper.

I already own the Helix cooling mattress topper and it has genuinely changed my sleep.

This is one of those purchases where I didn’t realize how much of a difference it would make until I had it. It actually feels cool, my bed is more comfortable, and I am sleeping noticeably better.

So yes, we’ve gone from blue suede and tennis necklaces to mattress toppers, but this is firmly in the “own it, would buy it again” half of this list.

Not glamorous. Possibly the best money spent here.

The Actual Point

I love a sale. I love finding something for less. I will absolutely tell you when something I’ve been watching gets marked down.

But I’m trying to get better at not letting the deal be the reason I buy something.

Tax-free weekend is only a good deal if you were already going to buy it.

And making this list actually reminded me of something else: the things I’m happiest I bought aren’t necessarily the trendiest or even the most exciting purchases.

They’re the things that earned their way into my life.

The boots I reach for constantly because they actually stay up. The belt that can rescue an otherwise boring outfit. The necklace I don’t wait for an occasion to wear. The completely unsexy mattress topper that changed how I sleep.

So this weekend, I’m looking at the things I’ve had saved and thinking about them through that lens.

Will I still want it next fall? Will it make the clothes I already own better? Will I actually use it? Is it something I’d eventually tell a friend, “Yes, buy it”?

Because 6.25% off is not enough to turn something you don’t want into something you need.

It is, however, apparently enough to make a blue suede barn jacket feel like a very reasonable fall purchase.

And I’m okay with that. Here’s the list.

The back-to-school aisles appear overnight. Pumpkin candles somehow make their way onto shelves while it’s still 85 degrees. Fashion starts whispering about boots before you’ve even finished wearing sandals.

It’s as if we’ve all collectively agreed to leave the party an hour early.

But August has never felt like an ending to me.

It’s the month when your hair permanently smells a little like sunscreen. When there’s always a swimsuit drying somewhere in the house. When your beach bag never really gets unpacked because you’ll probably need it again tomorrow. It’s shell earrings, striped dresses, tomatoes from the farm stand, dinners that stretch past sunset, and realizing you don’t need much more than salty hair and somewhere to sit outside.

To me, August is when summer finally relaxes.

June is full of expectations.

July is booked solid.

August is when you remember why you love summer in the first place.

Maybe that’s why I started thinking about my closet.

The other day I realized half of my favorite summer clothes are still hanging exactly where I left them in May.

The striped dress I’ve been waiting for vacation to wear.

The shell earrings I’ve decided are somehow too special for a random Tuesday.

The swimsuit I’ve been saving for “the right beach day.”

The heels that have made it from the box to the mirror... and nowhere else.

Somewhere along the way, so many of us started treating our favorite things like museum pieces.

I’ll wear it on vacation.

I’ll save it for dinner.

I don’t want to ruin it.

But the funny thing about summer is that the days we remember almost never announce themselves.

They’re the evenings someone texts, Want to come over for burgers?

The impromptu ice cream stop after the beach.

The Tuesday dinner eaten outside because nobody wanted to go in.

The boat ride that accidentally turns into watching the sunset from the water.

They’re ordinary until one day they’re the memories you wish you could go back to.

So this week’s edit is a little different.

Instead of sharing the newest things I’ve found, I’m sharing ten pieces I’ve been saving in my own closet that I’m finally wearing this August.

Not because I have somewhere special to go.

But because August is the occasion.

Maybe that’s really what this month is about.

Not waiting.

Not rushing toward September.

Not mentally skipping ahead to boots and leaves and routines before we’ve squeezed every last drop out of the longest evenings of the year.

Just saying yes to August while it’s still here.

My August List

• Buy oysters on the way home and eat them on the beach before dinner.

• Make lobster rolls at home (with way too much butter).

• Let a family boat day accidentally turn into a boat night.

• Book one spontaneous overnight with the kids—just swimsuits, a duffel bag, and somewhere within driving distance.

• Wear every piece I’ve been “saving” in my closet.

• Have more “one drink?” nights.

• Walk to the beach before the rest of the house wakes up.

I’m calling it the Wear Your Closet Challenge.

For one month, I’m wearing the dress.

The shell earrings.

The swimsuit.

The “too nice” shoes.

The pieces I’ve been saving for someday.

Because if you’re lucky, someday is just a Tuesday in August.

And I have a feeling those are the days we’ll miss the most.

But unfortunately I have started thinking about fall clothes.

I’ve been looking through the fall runways and, maybe more importantly, scrolling through new arrivals to see which of those ideas are actually starting to make their way into clothes we might wear.

And there are a few things I keep noticing.

Not necessarily “trends” in the you need to buy these five things immediately sense. More like little shifts. The pendulum moving. Things that suddenly look new again.

Here’s what I’m calling.

1. our blazers are shrinking

For years, the answer to every outfit was basically: put a giant blazer over it.

And I love a giant blazer. I own the giant blazers. I will continue wearing the giant blazers.

But suddenly everything I’m saving has a waist. Or ends at the waist. Or at the very least acknowledges that I have one.

Blazers are shorter, more fitted, a little nipped in. Shoulders can still be strong, but the whole thing feels more feminine and intentional.

I don’t think the oversized blazer is dead. I just think shape is coming back.

And honestly? I’m ready.

2. burgundy is going purple

You heard it here first. Or maybe you didn’t. But I’m saying it anyway.

Burgundy has had us in a chokehold for a few years now, and I don’t think it’s disappearing. I think it’s evolving.

Everything I’m suddenly stopping on is just a few shades over: plum, fig, aubergine, blackberry. That very deep purple where you could argue for several minutes about whether it’s actually burgundy.

Basically, burgundy is going purple.

It feels like the natural next step after everyone bought a burgundy bag/shoe/sweater last year.

Same richness. Slightly weirder. I’m in.

I have a feeling by October we’re all going to be calling things “aubergine” with a completely straight face.

3. the barn jacket was a gateway drug

Last fall we all bought barn jackets.

Then we bought another barn jacket.

And apparently that was just phase one.

Because now I’m seeing riding boots. Suede. Tweed. Heritage checks. Actual riding-patch leggings. Clothes that are getting dangerously close to suggesting I own a horse.

The barn jacket was our gateway drug to full horse girl.

Not costume-y equestrian. I do not think we need jodhpurs. Although, based on some of the things I’m seeing, maybe check back with me in October.

It’s a little Ralph Lauren. A little English countryside. A little “this jacket has been in my family for 40 years” even though it arrived in a box on Tuesday.

And unfortunately I am extremely susceptible.

4. we’re accessorizing like our grandmothers

Somewhere along the way we became terrified of accessories.

Tiny gold hoops. Tiny gold necklace. Maybe a watch.

And suddenly I want a BROOCH.

Brooches, pearls, silk scarves, charms, big earrings, interesting belts. Things that look like you inherited them, found them somewhere, or stole them from your grandmother.

Basically, accessories are becoming accessories again.

I think we’ve spent so long trying to find the perfect subtle, goes-with-everything pieces that something a little unnecessary suddenly feels very good.

Give me a brooch that serves absolutely no practical purpose.

More unnecessary things, please.

5. the Dôen lace shorts walked so detail could run

This is the one I can’t stop noticing.

Suddenly a cardigan can’t just be a cardigan. It needs lace. A button-down needs embroidery. A jacket needs piping. A collar needs a ruffle. Buttons need to be interesting.

Lace trim. Embroidery. Contrast collars. Pintucks. Velvet pockets. Decorative buttons. Interesting stitching. Little things added to clothes that absolutely did not need to be there but somehow make the entire thing better.

We’ve spent years buying THE perfect white T-shirt. THE perfect straight-leg jean. THE perfect gray crewneck. THE perfect basic cardigan.

And now it feels like designers are saying: okay, but what if we put something on them?

I don’t think maximalism is necessarily back.

I think detail is.

The clothes aren’t necessarily louder. They’re just less boring.

And this might be the shift I’m most excited about.

The best part is that none of this really requires starting over for fall. You probably already have some version of it hiding in your closet: the fitted jacket behind your oversized ones, your mother’s brooch, a purple sweater you haven’t worn in five years, the riding boots you were convinced were permanently stuck in 2012.

Fashion is very good at making us believe something is brand new when really someone just moved it to the front of the closet again.

Anyway, those are my five.

So I asked Claude to fix it. The result is a single HTML file that opens in any browser and contains my entire wardrobe — every dress, every pair of jeans, every necklace — pulled from my online purchases, organized, searchable, and smart enough to suggest outfits.

Here’s what it does and how I built it (in about three hours, mostly waiting for browser tabs to load).

What it does

Browse by category. ~370 items grouped into Tees, Shirts, Blouses, Sweaters, Cardigans, Vests, Jeans, Pants, Shorts, Skirts, Dresses, Outerwear, Shoes, Bags, Accessories, Swim, Jewelry, Eyewear. Click any item to edit its category, image, or season tags.

Filter by season. Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter — auto-inferred from the item’s category and description (a cashmere sweater goes to Fall/Winter; a linen dress goes to Spring/Summer; a denim jacket lives in three seasons).

Save outfits as collages. Build any combination, name it, save it. A separate Outfits tab shows them all as visual collages. The 40 outfit posts from my ShopMy “Outfits I Actually Wear” collection got auto-imported so each is already saved and editable.

Build packing lists for trips. Type your destination and trip length, pick a climate (Beach / Warm / City / Cold / Work trip), and it generates a mix-and-match list scaled to the days you’re going — three tops × two bottoms for a 5-day trip gives you six outfit combos, plus a dress, two shoes (one dressy, one casual), outerwear if cold. Save it, duplicate it for next year, edit as needed.

Outfit suggestions, four ways. This is the part I use most:

1. By occasion — Work, Casual, Date, Vacation, Beach. Click and it picks a random outfit using that occasion’s recipe.

2. By today’s weather — type a city (or leave blank for your current location), it fetches live weather and picks an outfit appropriate for the temperature. Below 40°F? Forces a coat. Rain detected? Prefers your rain jacket or trench. Snow? Goes for the quilted parka.

3. Anchored to one item — click the ✨ button on any item (say, a specific necklace), and that item becomes the seed. Then click an occasion or fetch the weather — it builds around your anchor.

4. 🔄 Try another — don’t like what it suggested? Re-roll with the same context. Keep going until you find one you like.

Persist forever. It’s a single HTML file in my Downloads folder. localStorage keeps my outfits and packing lists between sessions. No server, no login, no subscription, no app to install.

Auto-sync. Every Monday at 7am, Claude runs in the background and checks my ShopMy account for new gifted items and new outfit posts, then adds them to the file automatically.

How it got built

I gave Claude the prompt (below), and we worked iteratively. The first version was just an empty HTML shell with categories. Then:

• I logged Claude into ShopMy through the Claude in Chrome extension and we walked through 115 gifting orders, pulling clothing/accessories (skipping beauty, wellness, food, kids items)

• We hit the ShopMy API to grab all 40 outfit posts in one batch — each became a saved outfit, with tagged items becoming wardrobe items

• I logged into Zara and we scraped my 5 most recent orders (woven through extensive lazy-image loading)

• The Shop app order history gave us 70 more orders across 30+ brands — heavy dedupe needed because many items appeared in multiple sources

• For J.Crew (Shop app’s J.Crew integration just redirects to UPS tracking — frustrating), I sent product URLs in chat as I found them

Then the features evolved as I used it. The original gallery had Tops and Bottoms; I asked for sub-categories and Claude broke them out. I asked for seasons; got that. Then outfit suggestions. Then weather. Then anchoring. Then trip duplication. Then “try another.” Each addition took five to ten minutes.

What you need to build your own

Claude desktop app (free download from claude.com), with Cowork mode enabled. Cowork is currently a research preview — if you don’t see it, check your account or upgrade to Pro.

Claude in Chrome extension (also in beta) — this is what lets Claude navigate to ShopMy, retailer sites, anywhere you’re logged in, and pull data. Install from the Chrome web store.

If you don’t have Cowork or the Chrome extension yet, you can still build a manual version: Claude can build the HTML app and you populate it yourself by uploading screenshots or pasting product URLs as you shop. Slower, but the result is the same.

The prompt

Copy and tweak. Send to Claude in Cowork mode:

Build me a digital wardrobe — a visual gallery of my clothing pulled from my online purchases.

Features I want:

• Image-first gallery organized by specific categories (Tees, Shirts, Sweaters, Cardigans, Vests, Jeans, Pants, Shorts, Skirts, Dresses, Outerwear, Shoes, Bags, Accessories, Swim, Jewelry, Eyewear) — these can evolve

• Filter by season (auto-inferred from category + material)

• Three views: Gallery / Outfits / Trips

• Save named outfits and view them as collages

• Save named packing lists for trips, with a duplicate button so I can copy “Lisbon June” and tweak it instead of starting over

• Outfit suggestions: pick by occasion (Work, Casual, Date, Vacation, Beach), or by today’s weather for a given city

• “Anchor” any item with one click, then build outfits around it

• Packing list suggestions by trip type (Beach, Warm, City, Cold, Work) that scale items mix-and-match with trip length

• “Try another” re-roll button on every suggestion

• Edit any item to fix category/image/season/note

• Add new items by pasting an image URL or uploading a photo

• Single self-contained HTML file that persists in my browser

Populate from these sources, in order:

1. ShopMy gifting portal (clothing/accessory gifts brands sent me)

2. ShopMy “Outfits I Actually Wear” collection (each post becomes a saved outfit; tagged items become wardrobe items)

3. Retailer order histories I log into in Chrome (Zara, J.Crew, H&M, etc.)

4. Shop app order history

5. Manual: I’ll paste product URLs in chat as I shop

Rules:

• Women’s clothing/accessories only — skip kids, beauty/wellness/food, shipping carriers

• Skip outfit posts I’ll flag (capsule wardrobes, repeated series, etc.)

• Dedupe carefully — same item appears across multiple sources

• Check in with me before sweeping anything 50+ orders deep

• Build the empty app first so I can see the structure, then populate

Maintenance:

• Schedule a weekly sync of ShopMy so new gifts + new outfit posts get added automatically

• I’ll send product URLs in chat for one-off additions

A few tips if you’re going to try this

• Start with an empty app. Don’t ask for everything at once. See the gallery shell, then iterate. Features I didn’t know I wanted (anchored outfits, weather-aware suggestions, trip duplication) only became obvious once I was using it.

• Be patient with the sweep. Loading 70 order pages takes 10-15 minutes of browser navigation. Claude tells you progress as it goes — go make coffee.

• Heavy dedup is real. Many items appear across ShopMy outfits, Shop app, retailer orders. Tell Claude to be conservative about adding duplicates; you can always merge later.

• Skip kids stuff. If you have kids, your retailer orders are full of toddler swimsuits and Disney sweatshirts. Tell Claude upfront: women’s only.

• The Chrome extension can’t see images on every site. Some retailers hide image URLs in ways that break extraction. Workaround: send product URLs in chat for those.

• You don’t need this to be perfect. I have a few items with broken images and one or two miscategorized things. The wardrobe is for me; I know what they are. The ✎ edit button lets me fix them when I notice.

If you build one, I want to see it. The next thing I’m going to add is a mood-board view for the items I haven’t worn in six months — a guilt nudge to rotate the closet.

This week’s No I Edit 10 feels very:
East Coast summer,
slightly nostalgic,
coastal without being cheesy,
and polished enough to wear long after MDW ends.

I wanted pieces that feel wearable for actual life:

and the inevitable “wait, why is it 58 degrees?” New England night.

So here’s everything I’m bringing.

01. The Farm Rio shell sandals

I physically cannot stop thinking about these.

They somehow feel playful, chic, vintage, coastal, and editorial all at once. The pale blue with the shell detail feels so much more interesting than a basic summer sandal, but still wearable enough to throw on constantly.

These are the kind of shoes that make an outfit look styled even if you’re just wearing white pants and a tee.

02. The Simon Miller striped tee

Because t-shirts don’t need to be basic.

This might honestly be my favorite thing in the entire edit. The stripe placement makes it feel almost architectural instead of just “cute.”

It feels like the elevated version of every striped tee we already own.

I’d wear this with:
white trousers,
boxer shorts,
a navy sweater over shoulders,
or thrown over a swimsuit after a boat day.

It’s giving expensive coastal summer in the best way.

03. The Brinker + Eliza earrings

Subtle beachy detail.

I love jewelry that references summer without screaming “beach theme.” These feel vintage and collected, like something you found in a tiny coastal boutique and wear with absolutely everything all season.

They instantly make basics feel intentional.

04. The Gap white trousers

I own these. I love these.

A good pair of white pants carries an entire summer wardrobe. These somehow manage to feel relaxed and polished at the same time, which is exactly what I want this time of year.

Also, there is nothing better than white pants with:
a striped knit,
gold jewelry,
sunburnt cheeks,
and a drink in your hand after being outside all day.

05. The Ralph Lauren button down

The unofficial shirt of East Coast summers.

I genuinely think everyone needs one oversized white button down for summer. Bathing suit cover up, dinner shirt, airport outfit, sweater replacement, thrown over shoulders when it gets cold.

It’s one of those pieces that somehow always makes you look put together.

And the tiny red pony detail with the rest of this edit felt very perfect.

06. The Hat Attack raffia bag

The bag that makes every outfit feel chic.

Raffia bags are basically emotional support accessories for summer. Even the simplest outfit suddenly feels expensive and vacation-adjacent once you add one.

I especially love this one because it feels structured enough for dinner but casual enough for daytime.

07. The Supergoop glow drops

Weekend skin in one bottle.

My entire beauty goal from Memorial Day through September is:
healthy,

Showing up with these = immediate favorite guest.

This feels charming, coastal, slightly quirky, and guaranteed to sit out all summer long.

Also, bringing a tiny thoughtful gift to a MDW weekend instantly makes you look like you have your life together.

10. The Kiel James Patrick striped sweater

Because MDW is never as warm as we want it to be.

Every single year we collectively pretend Memorial Day Weekend is going to be 80 degrees and every single year someone ends up freezing by the water at night.

I know we’re all feeling it: Black Friday fatigue. The inbox noise, the “30% off” shouting — it’s a lot.

I wasn’t planning to do anything for Black Friday, but somewhere between the kids needing snacks, work, and getting everyone dressed and a Basque Cheesecake prepared for Thanksgiving, I found myself doing what I always do: quietly hunting for the things that are actually worth it.   • What You’ll Need

    • Oranges (navel work best)

    • Sharp knife

    • Paper towels

    • Baking sheet

    • Parchment paper

  • How to Make Them

    • Preheat your oven to 200°F.
      Low and slow is the goal.

    • Slice oranges 1/8–1/4 inch thick.
      Too thick = won’t dry. Too thin = will curl. Go Goldilocks.

    • Pat slices dry with paper towels to shorten the bake time.

    • Lay slices in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

    • Bake 2.5–3.5 hours, flipping every 45 minutes.
      They should look dry but still slightly flexible.

    • Let cool completely.
      They firm as they cool.
