Trouble is, they can’t find any doctors willing to assist them in this endeavor.

Is anyone surprised? Many of us on Team Reality have been smeared, censored, deplatformed, fired from jobs, arrested (at least in the UK), threatened, and even physically attacked. Now that the tide is turning, those on the other side are turning tail and running at the first sign of trouble. The ones who claimed to be providing “life-saving medical care” to “transgender kids” will not suffer the smallest threat to their income streams. They will drop these kids like a hot potato and find other ways of making a living. I’m sure they already are talking to their lawyers about asset protection — maybe even the possibility of relocating to another country that does not have an extradition treaty with the United States.

Meanwhile, these children they professed to be so concerned about will be left with permanently broken, damaged bodies and brains.

Baroness Doctor Hillary Cass has posted an eleven-page apologia for the trial, which makes for eye-opening reading.

We don’t need a trial. We already know what puberty blockers do. They stunt normal human growth and development. That’s not a side effect. The treatment is the harm.

Virtually all children started on puberty blockers go on to wring-sex hormones, whose effect include muscle wasting, bone loss, beard growth in girls, loss of several inches of height in males, brain damage, reduced IQ, testicular cancer, and liver cancer.

And all this is a prelude to mutilating surgeries whose complications can be truly horrifying.

Dr. Cass professes her deep and abiding concern for “stealth transgender children,” whose parents transitioned them when they were very young, and in many cases are poisoning them with black-market drugs. Better to get the whole thing out in the open so they can take the drugs under medical supervision.

People are going to do whatever it is they do, right? So we may as well just accept that and do everything we can to enable them and smooth the way for them.

There is a name for that doctrine: “harm reduction.”

And it goes against everything we have learned about running a human society since time immemorial. Anyone who knows anything about life as it is lived knows that people tend to live up or down to expectations.

I once attended a Science Writers’ Boot Camp sponsored by the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions at which Dr. Nora “I-Never-Met-a-Drug-I-Didn’t-Like” Volkow showed us a graph depicting the availability of “medication-assisted-treatment” (i.e., substituting one drug for another) by year. A few minutes later she showed us a graph depicting overdose death rates by year. Only one person there was impertinent enough to point out that the two curves tracked each other perfectly.

I sometimes wonder how much more “harm reduction” our civilization can survive.

Saying we should give puberty blockers to children because their parents are just going to obtain them illegally anyway is like saying we should legalize child sex abuse. People are going to do it anyway, right? Better we get the whole thing out into the open, so these children can get contraception and treatment for sexually transmitted disease and legal abortions.

No.

Some things are so obviously harmful to children we don’t adjudicate them on a case-by-case basis. We ban them across the board. And that is as it should be. Child sex abuse is one of them.

And poisoning children to stunt normal human growth and development ought to be another.

We need to shut down the child gender medicine industry and hold its practitioners responsible for what whey have done. Just take this option off the table. We still will have confused, distressed children, but they will have to find some other way of conceptualizing their confusion and distress. And almost anything would be better than the transgender obsession.

The study authors utilized data from the COMAGINE database, which includes claims for all medical services and prescriptions paid for by participating health plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. The results were shocking.

According to the study, one out of every hundred Oregon adolescents has a formal diagnosis of “transgender.” This figure includes one out of every two hundred adolescent boys and one out of every sixty-six girls. Over a quarter of these youths were prescribed puberty blockers and/or wrong-sex hormones.

You mustn’t imagine the study authors are some kind of rabid “transphobes.” Indeed, throughout the article, the authors express their fealty to the child “sex change” industry.

Medical GAC for adolescents is individualized and provided within structured, multidisciplinary standards of care that recommend initiation of treatment only after appropriate diagnostic assessment, informed consent, and mental health considerations are addressed, with additional considerations for pubertal stage and fertility counseling. Puberty blockers temporarily pause puberty, giving adolescents time to explore their gender identity and preventing unwanted physical changes that may reduce the need for more extensive medical and surgical interventions later. GAHT involves estrogen or testosterone and is initiated after pubertal development has begun, with earlier initiation associated with improved psychological well-being and self-efficacy.

They go on to favor us with these words of wisdom:

Despite growing public attention, medical GAC is accessed by only a small proportion of adolescents in the United States.

That’s one way of looking at it. I say: if one out of every two hundreds boys no longer wants to be a boy, that is a catastrophe. If one out of every sixty-six girls no longer wants to be a girl, that is a catastrophe.

Whether you want to call this obsession a cult, a lifestyle choice, or anything else, this is a diagnostic category for which the current gold-standard treatment is poisoning by puberty blockers and wrong-sex hormones, amputation of the breasts (in girls), and surgical sterilization.

It’s also a condition which carries with it a frighteningly high suicide rate. The most comprehensive study ever done in the most transgender-friendly nation in the world found that, compared to a set of matched controls, the suicide rate among those who obtained sex-reassignment surgery was elevated by a whopping nineteen times.

The estimated prevalence of this obsession in girls has risen five-hundred-fold in just the last fifteen years or less. If this were anything other than a manufactured epidemic, you would think our public health authorities would be moving heaven and earth to find out what was causing it. They’re not doing that, because they know perfectly well what’s causing it. They’re causing it.

BTW, there are no data showing that medical “transition” lowers the rate of completed suicides. The Cass Report clearly showed it did not.

And even if it did, it would be infinitely better not to manufacture cases of this obsession in the first place.

Every clinician who told parents the tired old “trans or die” lie should be stripped of her license to practice medicine, sued for everything she has, and held accountable for crimes against humanity.

“Trans AND die” would be more accurate.

Let’s examine what happened.

A twelve-year-old autistic boy had trouble fitting in, as autistic children often do. He was prescribed so-called antidepressants, which are known to cause worsening depression and suicidality.

A year later he came out as “transgender.” His parents enabled him in this delusion and drove him to take wrong-sex hormones (literally).

He spent most of his free time closeted away in his room playing video games, instead of engaging with the world. Should it surprise us that a boy taught to fear his own body is afraid of everything else, too?

What did this lonely, troubled boy get out of being “transgender?” It’s not hard to guess -- adult attention and affirmation, a narrative to make sense of his life, and the company and solace of his fellow misfits.

And no doubt he was saturated with the message that if he didn’t get wrong-sex hormones and access to girls-only spaces, he probably would end up committing suicide.

And he did.

This is so evil I can hardly wrap my mind around it.

We already knew “transgender people” have a higher suicide rate than the general population. That’s precisely why we need to stop the “sex change” industry and Munchausen-by-Proxy parents from manufacturing one more case.

We need to shut this industry down and hold its practitioners responsible for what they’ve done to children. We still will have troubled, distressed youths, but they will have to find some other way of conceptualizing their distress. And almost anything would be better than the transgender obsession.

The good doctor testified (under oath) that “the vast majority of pregnancies are in women.”

When Representative Randy Fine asked him “Who has the other pregnancies?” Dr. Hawgood paled and looked like a little boy sent to the principal’s office for the first time.

This guy is not stupid. You don’t get to a position like that by being stupid.

You get there by telling wealthy and powerful men (like the billionaires who control the sex change industry) what they want to hear.

These people who spouted absurdities like “the pregnant man” knew all along they along they were lying. They knew. They knew. They knew. And they knew we knew.

It is the job of the strong to protect the weak. There are few people more powerful and privileged than the chancellor of a major research university. And while tens of thousands of confused, vulnerable children were gaslighted, taught to hate their bodies, poisoned, maimed, and sterilized, powerful and privileged men like Dr. Hawgood played along.

No doubt now he and a lot of others like him would like the rest of us to forget about all this.

Very soon now, the call will go out for reconciliation and forgiveness, just as we heard calls for “Pandemic Amnesty.”

“We all meant well, except maybe a few right-wing extremists, so let’s just forgive and forget, umkay?”

No.

This guy is the embodiment of the phrase “the banality of evil.”

A popular meme on X (where I spend way too much time) depicts a character with a long shaggy beard and asks the (presumably rhetorical) question: Do you want this person to use the women’s room?

Now we have no way of knowing the person depicted is a woman. But’s let’s just assume for argument’s sake that the person is, actually, a woman.

My short answer would be No, I don’t want this person using the women’s room. But let’s examine this further.

No man or woman is an island. Our lives have meaning only in the context of a wider human society. For that reason, we must consider the feelings of others in our decisions. For that reason, you don’t get to do whatever the Hell you want (and the fact that I have to say this is proof of the gutter into which our culture has descended).

As a species, we are hard-wired to make the distinction between men and women, and to feel distress if we cannot do so immediately and without ambiguity. In the case of women, their survival has always depended on being able to do so.

The biggest predator of women is and always has been – not lions or tigers or bears – but MEN.

For all these reasons, any women who has poisoned her healthy body with testosterone to the extent that she appears (fully dressed, anyway) indistinguishable from man should not be allowed in the women’s room. Her self-expression is not worth the distress she will be causing to other women.

She can use the men’s room. I for one could not possibly care less.

Scientists have discovered a race of blind cave salamanders living in limestone caverns in Croatia three hundred meters underground. These salamanders care more about this issue than I do.

Or she can use single-occupant facilities, or stay home, or not poison her healthy body like that in the first place.

Your body, your choice. But then take responsibility for your choice.

Men-pretending-to-be-women, on the other hand, should be strictly forbidden from using the women’s room. I don’t care how many surgical mutilations they have had.

Anyway, this question is the mother of all loaded questions. It seems to presume that we have no choice but to continue to accede to the ever-escalating demands of an ever-growing number of “transgender people.”

We do have a choice. Nobody would take any of this seriously if gigantic corporations were not making billions of dollars mining the healthy bodies of some of society’s most confused and vulnerable members, including children.

We need to shut this industry down. Cut off its funding. Hold its practitioners accountable for what they’ve done to children.

Then the bathroom question will fade into utter insignificance.

In a post on X (which as of this writing earned 313 likes and 2.3k comments), the once-respected organization claimed:

In another setback for transgender people, the US Supreme Court ruled in favour of denying young transgender athletes the ability to participate in recreational activities with their friends and peers - simply due to their gender identity.

This decision, which comes amid rising authoritarian practises under Trump’s administration, feeds into growing efforts to legalise discrimination against transgender people - but they have a human right to the same opportunities as their cisgender peers. We are united with the athletes harmed by this devastating decision. They must not be forced from existence.

They are lying.

This ruling does not deny anyone “the ability to participate in recreational activities with their friends and peers.” All it does it allow states to reserve girls’ sports for girls -- which is what they should have been doing all along. Boys who identify as “transgender” still can play in boys’ sports, where they belong.

Although, if you want to play sports, ingesting poisons that cause muscle wasting and bone loss probably is not a good idea.

Which brings me to the main point. All these lachrymose outpourings about “trans kids” and “trans rights” is just running interference for gigantic corporations that make billions poisoning and maiming some of the most confused and vulnerable members of society, including children.

Children have rights. They have the right to be protected from harm. They have the right to be protected from exploitation. They have the right to be protected against dangerous drugs. For all these reasons, the child “gender medicine” industry must be abolished.

Alas. I am so old I can remember back when Amnesty International stood for human rights.

Dr. Ranganathan is an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School, a plastic surgeon at Mass General, and a former member of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, so whatever he has to say about this subject is worth paying attention to.

The good doctor decries the recent recommendation of the ASPS that “gender-affirming surgery” on youths below the age of nineteen not be carried out:

The reality of my job today is that I can see a young girl in my clinic for breast augmentation in preparation for her sweet 16 and be prosecuted for doing the same operation on a 19-year-old with gender dysphoria.

Actually, the ASPS recommendation applies only to minors under the age of nineteen, but never mind that for now.

And the fact that some grown men think springing for their sixteen-year-old daughters’ boob jobs is a good idea is itself a reflection of the gutter into which our pornified culture has descended. But again, never mind that for now.

The government’s opinion shouldn’t infringe on autonomy.

Well, yes, in some cases it should. When parents (or their surrogates) are doing something that clearly is abusive, it is the responsibility of the people, through their elected representatives, to step in and put a stop to it.

Second, the implication that plastic surgeons are performing gender-affirming surgery on children, as the title of the position statement suggests, is misleading. A study published in 2024 showed that there were zero surgeries performed in anyone 12 years of age and younger in 2019. The rate of surgery in those ages 13-16 was also extremely rare (0.1-2.1 per 100,000 minors).

So he tells us it’s misleading to say plastic surgeons are performing gender-affirming surgery on minors, and in the next breath he tells us that plastic surgeons are performing gender-affirming surgery on minors. Right.

This argument – “very few children get these surgeries” – is such a weird, back-handed defense of what they are doing, anyway. It’s like a child molester saying “I only put it in a little.” Why aren’t they bragging about the number of children who are receiving these wonderful, life-affirming surgeries? They wouldn’t be employing this defense if they didn’t know, on some level, that what they are doing is wrong.

I filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the Maryland Department of Health to find out how many minors are receiving these surgeries in Maryland each year, with the results stratified by age and type of surgery (mastectomy vs. genital surgery). They told me they needed four hundred and fifty dollars to start the inquiry. Not to answer my question – to start the inquiry. Why isn’t this information available on a website?

It’s almost as if … they feel they have something to hide.

The sign of a healthy society is the ability to draw lines and set limits. If a fifty-year-old man is accused of having sex with a child, the burden of proof is on the state to prove this actually happened. And that of course is as it should be.

But if this burden be met, the state has no further responsibility to demonstrate any specific harm. This is something that is so obviously inimical to the best interests of the child that we don’t adjudicate this sort of thing on a case-by-case basis. We ban it across the board. Again, this is as it should be.

That should be the case for child “gender medicine,” as well.

The problem with puberty blockers is they stunt normal human growth and development. This is not a “side effect.” The treatment is the harm.

The problem with amputating a young girl’s breasts is you are amputating a young girl’s breasts (and I can’t believe this even needs to be said). Again, the treatment is the harm.

The problem with chemical or surgical sterilization of children is they end up sterilized (and once again, I can’t believe I have to say this). Once again, the treatment is the harm.

We don’t need to have a demure little conversation about whether this condition is “overdiagnosed.” We need to shut down this industry and hold its practitioners accountable for what they have done to some of the most confused and vulnerable members of society.

The name Elmer Belt is almost forgotten now, but he was one the founding fathers of UCLA Medicine. And he also was one of the first doctors in America to perform “vaginoplasties” on men, way back in the 1950’s.

And guess what happened? He became disgusted with these men. He became disgusted with what he was doing. And he stopped doing it.

Let’s fast-forward ahead to the 1960’s. The first “gender identity” clinic in the United States was founded at Johns Hopkins, right here in Baltimore. Its founding director was John Hoopes, and his successor was Jon Meyer.

And guess what happened? Their own study failed to show that sex reassignment surgery produced any improvement in psychosocial functioning in these men. They became disgusted with these men. They became disgusted with what they were doing. And they stopped doing it, and shut down the clinic.

Now I want everybody reading this to consider how unusual this is. The founding fathers of an entire branch of medicine concluded the whole thing was a mistake, a wrong turn in human history. Nothing else like this has ever happened in the history of medicine.

Let’s jump ahead to the 1980’s. A study by Dutch clinical psychologist Peggy Cohen-Kettenis and her colleagues attempted to contact all patients who had begun hormonal treatment at the Netherlands Gender Center Foundation. As is usual with these studies, the evidence base was garbage. Of 229 patients who had begun treatment, only 141 were contacted, with the remaining eighty-eight lost to follow-up.

And guess what? The Dutch researchers were, by their own admission, unable to demonstrate any objectively measurable improvement in psychosocial functioning.

Now you might think, at this point, the practitioners of this field might have concluded “Whoops — I guess the whole thing was a horrible mistake.” But you would think wrong.

Instead, they did something truly sinister — they asked, what if we begin “treatment” while they still are children? They did this even though the very same researchers readily conceded that the overwhelming majority of ‘gender-dysphoric” children outgrow this obsession, and they usually outgrow around puberty — right at the time those pleasurable feelings kick in. Big surprise.

The same researchers also readily conceded they had no way of knowing which children might benefit from sex reassignment.

But this did not deter these doughty souls. They selected seventy “gender-dysphoric” children whom, in their judgement, suffered from no other serious psychological comorbidities. All of these children were started on puberty blockers, and all seventy went on to wrong-sex hormones (giving lie to the notion that puberty blockers are giving children “time to think” about irreversible, life-changing decisions).

These children were also offered psychotherapy as judged to be needed, but the therapists were specially enjoined from helping their young charges to shed this obsession.

The second part of the study looked at the effects of sex reassignment surgery (mastectomies for the girls, castration and vaginoplasty for the boys). Average age of surgery was seventeen and a half.

Only fifty-five of these youths were included in this second part of the study. Of the remaining fifteen, six were less than one year post-surgery, two refused to participate in the study, two failed to return the questionnaire, one dropped out of care, and three were considered medically ineligible for surgery due to uncontrolled diabetes and/or morbid obesity.

In addition, one MtF patient died as a direct result of surgery. This individual had been judged not a fit candidate for the penile inversion procedure, due to the lack of penile tissue caused by puberty blockers, and so underwent intestinal transposition vaginoplasty instead. After twenty-four hours, the patient developed abdominal pain and vomited blood. A CAT scan revealed a dilated small bowel and colon, multiple air-fluid levels, and free gas in the abdominal cavity. Cultures taken from the intraperitoneal fluid revealed the presence of E. coli, Streptococcus viridans, and Enterococcus faecium. A large volume of brown fluid was aspirated from the abdominal cavity.

The patient’s subcutaneous connective tissue began rotting away. The organs began to fail, and the individual was put on life support. In a frantic effort to save the patient’s life, doctors inundated the body with massive doses of antibiotics and removed sixty percent of the skin and subcutaneous connective tissue. Despite their efforts, the individual died of septic shock and multiple organ failure, at just eighteen years of age.

For the remaining fifty-five youths, the researchers ticked a few boxes on some questionnaires and found a modest improvement in a few areas (in most areas they could not demonstrate any improvement).

There was no control group, so there was no way of knowing whether the modest improvements the researchers claimed to find in these youths was due to the surgery, or to the therapy these children had received, or simply due to the passage of time and greater maturity on the part of the subjects.

And on this basis, puberty blockers and wrong-sex hormones and mutilating surgeries were foisted on tens of thousands of children throughout the developed world — most of whom never would have met the criteria for inclusion in the original Dutch study.

In most other branches of medicine, the safety and effectiveness of a given treatment first is established in adults before trying it out on children. That’s not what happened here. In the case of child “gender medicine,” these interventions were tried out on children after researchers failed to show they produced any meaningful improvements in adults.

Never before have so many people — including children — been subjected to such drastic interventions on the basis of such weak evidence. This is a gigantic, uncontrolled experiment.

And, predictably, as this branch of “medicine” has evolved from the obsession of a fringe subculture to a multi-billion-dollar industry, the number of children and youths identifying as “transgender” has skyrocketed.

I am so old I can remember a time when young people questioned authority. They talked back to their elders. They spoke truth to power. Some of the ways they went about this may have seemed silly or downright destructive, but one usually had the sense their hearts were in the right place.

Now young people are lining up to have themselves poisoned, maimed, sterilized, robbed by gigantic corporations of their God-given ability to have children — and in some cases to have that ability sold back to them by the same gigantic corporations, in the form of fantastically expensive reproductive technologies.

What has happened to us?

Spoiler alert: they’re not born that way.

Not one person being treated in a gender identity clinic anywhere in the world was diagnosed by means of a gene scan, or brain scan, or a blood test.

These complaints that fall under the diagnostic label of “gender dysphoria” are the result of childhood trauma and abuse. And this was something the early practitioners of this field were quite open about.

Endocrinologist Harry Benjamin was the spiritual grandfather of gender medicine. In fact, the organization now known as the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) originally was known as the Harry Benjamin Society.

Back in the 1960’s, Dr. Benjamin wrote a case history of a boy who was chased home and beaten up by bullies every day. When the boy’s father learned what was going on, he responded with alacrity – by giving him another beating every day for not fighting back. This unfortunate lad decided that life would have treated him more kindly if he had been born female, and he found solace in fantasizing about being a girl and began dressing in his sister’s clothes, and the sister – God love her, I am sure she had the best intentions in the world – enabled him in this behavior. When this boy grew up, he sought and obtained sex reassignment surgery.

While Harry Benjamin was the spiritual grandfather of this field, John Money was the founding father. And in 1974, Dr. Money wrote:

Gender identity differentiation is a delicate process that is easily subject to more than one source of disruption in the early years – sources as diverse as living with sudden or imminent death in the household; living with parents who have a severely disabled relationship between themselves and with their children; living with a parent who has a phobia of the sex organs of the other sex; or having sexual mutilation or sex role reversal threatened as a form of punishment and retribution.

The same year Dr. Money offered these insights, psychiatrist Ira Pauly, another one of the founding fathers of this branch of “medicine,” reviewed case histories of 102 FTM transsexual patients and identified a common pattern. In the great majority of these cases, the patient grew up in a family with a domineering and often cruel and abusive father, and a weak and ineffectual mother. Very often these fathers suffered from alcoholism and other emotional disturbances, encouraged their daughters to pursue traditionally masculine pastimes, and preferred their sons over their daughters. In a significant number of cases (22/102), these men had sexually abused their daughters while they were growing up.

Many of these girls experienced puberty and menarche as traumatic events, and many of them began binding their breasts at this time to hide the evidence of their femaleness. Interestingly, many of these subjects also reported late onset of menstruation and/or scant or irregular periods.

Is any of this surprising? Why wouldn’t a young girl growing up in such a toxic environment feel alienated from her own body? Why wouldn’t she want to be a male, instead of a despised and denigrated female?

A 1985 book chapter by clinical psychologist Susan Bradley of the Child and Adolescent Gender Identity Clinic of Toronto found a reciprocal pattern in FTM transsexuals – a cruel and domineering father and a passive, ineffectual mother. In addition, she reported that the families of MTF transsexuals tend to be characterized by a weak or absent father, and a mother who openly acknowledged her wish for a girl child and/or expressed outright hostility or hatred toward men. In both MTF and FTM cases, cross-sex behaviors as children were not discouraged and, in some cases, forthrightly encouraged.

We need to stop telling gender-confused kids the lie that they are “born that way.” We need start talking about ways for distressed, confused, lonely children to access meaningful help, rather than offering them drugs and mutilating surgery.

They. Don’t. Know. That.

The evidence base for this field is garbage, with huge losses to follow-up.

Moreover, the “transgender kids” of today are in no way comparable to the “transsexuals” of yesteryear. The latter were men who had been living as women for years and years. They had made their choices. They weren’t going to change. And even in these men, researchers never were able to demonstrate any meaningful improvement in psychosocial functioning.

No one knows what is going to happen to the children being herded into the “gender identity” clinics today. This is a gigantic, uncontrolled experiment.

Nine thousand children have been through the Tavistock gender identity services. What has happened to them? I don’t know, you don’t know, nobody knows. The NHS clinicians working at NHS clinics have refused to hand over the data to the NHS study. How they can get away with that, I have no idea.

The NHS’s own study looked at forty-two children put on puberty blockers. Only fourteen made it to the two-year follow-up. Of these, all but one went on to wrong-sex hormones, and researchers were unable to identify any improvement in psychosocial functioning in these children.

Two years is an awfully short time when we are talking about puberty blockers and wrong-sex hormones whose toxic effects are life-long.

Moreover, choosing “lack of regret/detransitioning” as an endpoint is setting the bar awfully low.

Let’s try a little thought experiment. Imagine you are a nine-year-old boy who, for whatever reason, finds himself on the transgender ratchet. You don’t get an adolescent boy’s upbringing. You get adult attention and affirmation — the very things that are lacking in your life — for doing girly things. You are told that anyone who questions this is your enemy, an evil “transphobe” who wants to see you dead, and that your own doubts are the result of your internalized “transphobia.”

You reach your eighteenth birthday not in the body of a grown man (nor in the body of a grown woman) but in that of a stunted, sterile, anorgasmic simulacrum of a girl child, possibly with brittle bones and a reduced IQ. You will never father a child. You have never had an orgasm, and have no idea of what that would be like. You’ve already gone through the painful process of getting family and friends to go along with your “transition.”

Once you have arrived at that destination, what would even be the point of detransitioning?

We already know the effects of puberty blockers. They stunt normal human growth and development. That’s a terrible thing.

Virtually all children started on puberty blockers go on to wrong-sex hormones. The toxic effects of these drugs are legion, and include muscle wasting, bone loss, blood clots, stroke, brain damage, testicular cancer, and liver cancer.

And all this is a prelude to mutilating surgeries whose complications can be truly horrifying.

We don’t need another study. We need to shut this industry down.

In thirty-three years as an academic perma-temp, nothing like this has EVER happened before.

Gee, do you think maybe somebody looked at my social media profile and decided they didn't like my opinions about the child "gender medicine" industry?

Ten years from now, when these abusive procedures are relegated to ash heap of history along with lobotomies, these cowards will shrug their shoulders and say "The science changed" and never think about these matters again. And the children caught up in the grip of this industry will be left with permanently broken, damaged bodies.

Remember Ketanji Brown Jackson’s immortal words at her Supreme Court confirmation hearing? When asked to provide a definition for the word “woman,” she replied “I’m not a biologist.”

Well, I am a biologist, and I would be happy to clear any confusion anyone has about these matters.

In the first place, the term “intersex” is no longer favored. The preferred term is “disorders of sex development,” a label that encompasses a wide variety of (fortunately) rare conditions.

In all of biology, nothing is more certain than this truth: in all multicellular plants and animals, there are two and only two sexes: males and female.

In most flowering plants and some lower animals, both sexes are found in the same individual. This condition is called hermaphroditism. There has never been a human being with functional male and female reproductive organs in the same individual. Indeed, such an individual is physiologically impossible, since the penis and the vagina are derived from the same embryonic tissues.

In the vast majority of cases, a newborn baby’s sex is correctly observed and recorded at birth.

In about one out of five thousand cases, a newborn baby’s sex is not immediately obvious. Well, guess what? There are established protocols to determine sex in these cases. It’s not a mystery. Almost always, there is only one kind of gonadal tissue present – either testes or ovaries, not both. There is no evidence these individuals benefit from surgeries intended to turn them into the opposite sex, which in practice almost always meant surgeries intended to turn a boy into a girl, guided by the ugly, cynical maxim “It’s easier to dig a hole than build a pole.”

(BTW, these disorders of sex development often come with a long list of physical problems. I know, hard to believe, isn’t it? It’s almost as if … you can’t interfere with the normal development of the sex organs without interfering with a lot of other things as well.)

Individuals with Swyer syndrome or complete androgen insensitivity syndrome do not present with ambiguous genitalia at birth. As adults they look like women and identify as women. They cannot have children, which is unfortunate for them, but there is no medical treatment indicated, other than the surgical removal of the gonads they never will use to reproduce anyway (and even that now is being questioned). Likewise, individuals with de la Chapelle syndrome look like men, and identify as men.

In a few extremely rare cases, both ovarian and testicular tissue are found in the same individual. This is called ovotesticular syndrome. Again, guess what? Most of these individuals have either a normal male body habitus or a normal female body habitus, and do not wish to be anything else.

The only cases for which there conceivably could be any confusion would be someone with ovotesticular syndrome who either is unhappy with their sex of assignment and rearing, or who is having trouble passing as their identified sex. I have searched the literature, and I am unable to find any record that such an individual has ever existed.

And if such an individual does exist, let’s worry about how best to help that individual AFTER we shut down these “clinics” devoted to poisoning and maiming healthy children.

The only relevance the so-called “intersexes” have to this debate is that they are used as props by those who seek to gaslight us and convince us we are so stupid we have no idea what a man is or what a woman is, and so we have no choice but to stand by helplessly and watch as tens of thousands of children are being poisoned, maimed, sterilized, and robbed of their futures by the sex change industry.

The toxic effects of puberty blockers also include “emotional lability” (crying, irritability, impatience, anger, aggression), headache, general pain, acne, seborrhea, rash, vaginitis, vaginal bleeding, vaginal discharge, convulsions, and pseudotumor cerebri (a condition that mimics the symptoms of a brain tumor – headache, blurred vision, double vision, loss of vision, pain behind the eye with eye movement, ringing in the ears, dizziness, and nausea – although no actual tumor is involved).

Virtually all children given puberty blockers go on to wrong-sex hormones. The toxic effects of wrong -sex hormones include muscle wasting, bone loss, reduced height in males, beard growth in females, testicular cancer, and liver cancer.

If these docs aren't stopped, this study will take its place in the history of medicine right alongside the Tuskegee Syphilis Study.

So says Ritchie Herron, a troubled young man who underwent sex reassignment surgery at the hands of Britain’s National Health Service.

A mania is sweeping the developed world, one that is spreading as fast as the witch-hunting mania of the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, one that is no less pernicious, and no less impervious to facts and evidence. There is no satisfactory agreed-upon name for this mania, although it has been referred to as sex change, sex reassignment, sex confirmation, and most recently by the grotesquely mendacious moniker of “gender-affirming care.”

Daily, hourly, as I write these words, some of the most confused and vulnerable members of our society – including children – are suffering irremediable harms in the name of an ideology which not only lacks any kind of credible evidence base, it also lacks a semblance of internal coherency, substituting instead a fog of semantic obfuscation.

In the blink of an eye, historically speaking, the transgender narrative has become embedded in the minds of the public – including many otherwise skeptical, scientifically-minded people – so much so that it is necessary to go back to the beginning and re-examine the whole enterprise with fresh eyes, from its origin as the obsession of a tiny fringe subculture to its present-day status as a major industry.

It’s make-or-break time. For the last twenty years I have been building the skill set to write this book.

Last year I signed an agreement with a literary agent for this book. Then the agent ghosted me, without any explanation at all. All he did for me was waste four months of my time.

I can’t quit now. That would be like going on a thousand-mile journey and giving up in the last hundred yards. I’ve gone the self-publishing route.

The Gold Coast Regiment had its roots in the Gold Coast Constabulary, organized in 1879 as an internal security force and composed initially of personnel from the Hausa Constabulary of Southern Nigeria. The unit first saw action during the Ashanti wars. Reorganized in 1901 as the Gold Coast Regiment, the unit raised five battalions for service in the East African Campaign in the First World War.

Reorganized again in 1940, it was made up of nine battalions totaling just over 10,000 men, and, along with two brigades of soldiers from East Africa, composed the 12th Division of the British Army. (The 11th Division comprised two brigades of East African soldiers along with a brigade of Nigerian soldiers.) The 11th and 12th Divisions, along with the 1st Division of the South African Army, constituted the East Africa Command. Under the leadership of General Alan Cunningham, they entered Addis Ababa on 6 April 1941.

The main body of Italian forces in Ethiopia capitulated on 19 May 1941, but the last holdouts in Gondar did not surrender until 27 November of that year.

The Second World War Memorial Cemetery in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia, contains row after row of gravestones bearing names like Kwesi, Kwame, Kojo … All young men, far away from home, who had their whole lives ahead of them, and who never made it back.

This is the oldest known picture of Saint Patrick, taken from the Legenda Aurea, published in France in the Thirteenth Century. There are no contemporary portraits or even descriptions of Patrick, and this picture was made about eight hundred years after he died, so we don’t really know what he looked like, but it’s probably as good a guess as any.

Patrick’s story is told in Thomas Cahill’s masterful work How the Irish Saved Civilization. He was born Patricius (we don’t know him by any other name), the scion of a Romanized British family. His dad was a tax collector and his grandfather was a priest, but young Patrick was not particularly religious. We don’t even know the exact year of his birth, but he must have come of age right around the time the Romans withdrew from Britain for good, leaving that island vulnerable to marauders from both the east and the west.

And the marauders came. Irish pirates kidnapped the youth and sold him into slavery. His new master put him to work as a shepherd, and for the next six years he endured a lonely and miserable state of servitude on that cold and rainy island. Stripped of all the comforts of his former middle-class existence, with no one else to turn to, he turned his gaze upwards, toward God.

After six years he made his escape. He was spirited away by sailors who agreed to return him to his family in anticipation of a lucrative reward. And he resumed his former comfortable existence, but one night in a dream he heard voices, begging him to return to the Emerald Isle.

Return he did, but it was not a straight-line path. First Patrick needed to resume his studies, interrupted by his captivity. He was ordained first as a priest, and then a bishop. Patrick probably was already in mid-life when he returned to the site of his former bondage, which at the time still was steeped in intertribal warfare, slavery, and human sacrifice.

He crisscrossed Ireland, preaching this message to the eager multitudes: Love one another, do onto others as you would have them do onto you. You don’t need human sacrifice anymore, because God has already sent his own son to die for us all. It is not our deaths, but our lives, that God wants.

A pivotal incident in Patrick’s life came when Coroticus, one of the many local warlords who had arisen in the power vacuum created by the departure of the Roman legions from Britain, descended upon Ireland and slaughtered thousands of Patrick’s followers, taking many more as slaves. Patrick sent a delegation of priests to Coroticus to negotiate their return. When this was unsuccessful, he wrote an open letter to British Christians, imploring them to excommunicate Coroticus until he agreed to return his captives.

In sadness and grief, shall I cry aloud. O most lovely and loving brethren whom I have begotten in Christ (I cannot number them), what shall I do for you? I am not worthy to come to the aid of either God or men. The wickedness of the wicked has prevailed against us. We are become as it were strangers. Can it be that they do not believe we have received on baptism or that we have one God and Father? Is it a shameful thing in their eyes that we have been born in Ireland?

We don’t know what happened to Coroticus. But we do know that by the time Patrick died, slavery in Ireland had ended, and the internecine wars had (for the most part) died down.

With those words – that we have been born in Ireland – Patrick made it clear that his identification with his chosen people was complete. But there is an even more important point here.

The greatness of Saint Patrick is beyond dispute. He was the first man in history to unequivocally denounce slavery.

After Patrick died, his followers established the first monasteries in Ireland, places of prayer, contemplation, and learning. Ireland would never be conquered by outsiders until the Seventeenth Century. Meanwhile, as western Europe was wracked by barbarians and libraries were burned, the Irish monks preserved the works of the ancients, pagan and Christian alike. Scholars came from as far away as Egypt and Armenia came to join them, bringing their knowledge as well as priceless manuscripts.

And the monks fanned out, establishing new monasteries first in Scotland, then in England, and finally all over Europe, ranging as far east as Kiev. The monasteries grew into great cities, such as Lumièges, Auxerre, Laon, Luxeill, Liège, Trier, Würzburg, Regensburg, Rheinlau, Reichenau, Vienna, Saint Gall, Bobbio, Fiesole, and Lucca. Without the efforts of these monks, probably all of Latin literature would have been lost forever.

And that is how the Irish saved civilization.

Here is a picture of my grand-nephew Patrick, taken on the occasion of his first birthday.

I believe I was named after my great-great-grandfather, Patrick Kedian. I don’t know this for sure, and it’s too late now to ask my mother.

But as I write this I have in front of me a copy of my grandmother’s baptismal certificate. She was born Mary Josephine Comber in Bekan Parish, County Mayo, Ireland, in 1892. The certificate lists her parents as Michael Comber and Catherine Kedian, and also listed as “Sponsor” is Patrick Kedian, whom I assume is the father of Catherine. An online search of the census records turned up one Patrick Kedian, born in County Mayo in 1841 and still living there at the time of the 1911 census, and no other Patrick Kedian who could possibly fill the bill. So I’m pretty sure this guy was my great-great-grandfather.

I wonder what he would have thought as a young man if he could have looked 150 years ahead into the future and seen a little African kid walking around with his name?

The Harborplace was once the crown jewel of Baltimore. Designed by architect Benjamin C. Thompson (who also created Faneuil Hall in Boston), this was the brainchild of visionary urban planner James Rouse, who dared imagine the inner city as “a warm and human place, with a diversity of choice, full of festival and delight.” And for a while it was.

Originally, the planners banned chain restaurants in favor of locally-owned businesses — Phillips All-You-Can-Eat Seafood Buffet, Lee Ice Cream, and The Fudgery, with its retinue of singing confectionary-makers. The Baltimore Aquarium, the Museum of Industry, and the World Trade Center at Baltimore all were just a short stroll away. All this gave the place a quirky, one-of-a-kind feel available nowhere else.

I remember taking my dates here back in the nineties, way back when I was still almost-young. This was a place for couples to go strolling hand-in-hand along the water’s edge, couples not just of every color but of every permutation of colors – white and black, black and brown, brown and yellow, yellow and white. This was also a place for teenagers to hang out, for busy professionals to hammer out important deals over craft beers, for grandparents to take their grandkids for ice cream.

The Harborplace is scheduled to be torn down by the end of the year.

Covid hysteria killed it. Just as it killed so much else that was good and right about our society.

That shouldn’t come as a surprise. The covid vaccines (specifically, the Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca shots) commandeer the body’s cellular machinery and force it to mass-produce a modified form of the toxic spike protein (or, as world-famous medical expert Bill Gates helpfully pointed out, “An RNA vaccine essentially turns your body into its own vaccine manufacturing unit”). The spike protein promotes the action of Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE), which promotes blood clotting and inflammation, and shuts down the action of Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2 (ACE 2), which has the opposite effect. The spike protein is known to cross the blood-brain barrier and cause inflammation, vascular damage, and reduced blood flow to the brain. We might expect the shot to cause a whole host of brain disorders.

How does one measure such a thing? The trials we were promised were cut short months and months before they had been scheduled to end (and even then they showed an excess of adverse events in the treatment arm). Fortunately, the CDC maintains a database known as the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). Anyone can submit a report to VAERS, so these data obviously do not constitute a controlled trial. But there is a recognized way of extracting a signal from these data, by means of something called Proportional Reporting Ratio (PRR) analysis.

The Proportional Report Ratio takes the number of case reports for a given adverse event (say, ischemic stroke) reported for a given vaccine product, divided by the total number of adverse events reported for that product. That ratio is then divided by the ratio for all vaccine products to give the PRR. A figure in excess of two (meaning there are twice as many reports of a given adverse event for a given vaccine product than we would expect were those reports distributed randomly among all vaccine products) is considered a signal worthy of further investigation.

The researchers found safety signals for forty-seven different categories of cognitive neuropsychiatric adverse events, including brain fog, brain injury, brain oedema, cerebral atrophy, cerebral disorder, cerebral haemorrhage, cerebral small vessel ischemic disease, cerebral thrombosis, cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, delirium, dementia of the Alzheimer’s type, dementia with Lewy bodies, dementia, depressed level of consciousness, mental fatigue, mental impairment, and mental status changes. The p-values for each of the above-mentioned adverse events were all less than 0.0001 – meaning there was a less than one in ten thousand possibility of the association occurring by chance.

They also found safety signals for twenty-eight general neuropsychiatric disorders including acute psychosis, anxiety, conversion disorder, delusion, mania, panic attack, psychiatric investigation, psychiatric symptom, psychotic disorder, schizoaffective disorder, and schizophrenia. The p-values for each of the above-mentioned events were all less than one in ten thousand.

In addition, they found safety signals for eleven suicidal/homicidal neuropsychiatric disorders. The combined p-value for these eleven events was less than one in ten thousand.

We were warned about this. We were warned by eminently credentialed experts from the world’s top medical institutions, who were yelling their heads off about all this as far back as mid-2020. But our rulers went ahead and foisted these shots on literally billions of people, without anything remotely resembling informed consent.

Not to mention the torrents of hate speech spewed out at anyone who questioned the official narrative, and the social and economic damage done by the pandemic restrictions intended to break the will of the citizenry, crush their spirit, and get them to agree to have anything shot into their bodies as long as the drugmakers call it a “vaccine.”

We will be dealing with the fallout from all this for decades to come.

Thanksgiving Day 2025

An icy wind is blowing down from the mountaintops and racing unimpeded through the fields of broken cornstalks or newly sprouted winter wheat in the valley below.

My wife and I had driven up here this morning, to spend Thanksgiving Day with my nephew and nieces and their mother, along with assorted aunties and cousins. The kids ditched all the boring grown-ups and went down to the basement to talk among themselves, the women prepared the Thanksgiving Day feast, and I went for a five-mile walk.

In other words, everything was as it was meant to be.

This solitary amble has become something of an annual tradition for me, a way of marking the passage of another year. My nephew and nieces, the adorable tots I once held on my lap and read stories to, are big kids now. The boy is going away to university the year after next, and even the youngest is now in the Seventh Grade.

Before I departed on my excursion, I asked her:

Katie, do you want to walk five miles?

She rolled her eyes and replied “I’m good,” and we both laughed.

This part of Maryland still is mostly rural, although that is changing, with McMansions springing up alongside the stately stone farmhouses dating back from the Nineteenth Century or even earlier. My route takes me past the Beaver Creek Church Cemetery, taking in the row upon row of gravestones. The earliest one I can find dates back to 1801, although no doubt some are even older than that. Many of the headstones are worn completely smooth by more than two centuries of wind and rain, mute witnesses to the passage of time.

Many of these gravestones bear the same name: Newcomer. These are the children of Peter Newcomer, born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1752, back when the Holy Roman Empire was still a thing, and died here in 1826. The name “Newcomer” is actually an anglicized version of the German name Neukommet.

I pause here for a while, wondering about the kinds of lives these people must have led, in some ways so different from ours and yet in other ways not so different at all. Men and women still fall in love, get married, have children, raise them up as best as they can, and send them out into the world.

I wonder how the folks whose families have lived here for generations and generations feel about the interlopers (like my wife’s family) coming here and replacing cornfields with McMansions and acres and acres of manicured lawns. Probably the same way the Native Americans felt about the Newcomers (in both senses of the word) arriving here in the late Eighteenth Century.

The only constant thing in life is change. The world is a palimpsest, continually erasing itself and re-drawing itself anew.

I keep walking.

As for me, I am thankful for my family and friends, and for my continued good health, almost four years after the stroke I suffered less than thirty days after my booster shot (which I took on pain of losing my livelihood if I didn’t).

I have big plans for next year. I cannot tell you today what they are, but I think next year will turn out to be very interesting.
