Ukraine Drone Strike Hits Crowded Russian Beach During Peak Tourist Season

Yesterday, a Ukrainian drone struck a crowded beach in Arkhipo-Osipovka, near Gelendzhik in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai on the Black Sea coast.

According to the latest official Russian reports, 7 people were killed, including 4 children, while 58 others were injured. The attack occurred during the height of the summer holiday season, when families from across Russia were spending their vacations on the Black Sea.

Videos from the scene show a drone approaching the beach from over the water moments before impact. The footage has since spread widely across social media and international news outlets.

Russian officials have described the incident as a terrorist attack, arguing that a crowded civilian beach was deliberately targeted. Ukraine had not publicly commented on the incident at the time this article was written.

A Pattern Worth Examining

This is not the first time civilians enjoying public spaces have been caught up in attacks.

In June 2024, an ATACMS missile carrying cluster munitions exploded over a crowded beach in Sevastopol, killing civilians and injuring more than 150 people.

In December 2023, Belgorod’s city center was struck during New Year holiday celebrations, killing and injuring civilians gathered in one of the busiest public areas of the city.

Whether these attacks were intentional or the result of military operations gone wrong remains a matter of debate. What is beyond dispute is that civilians—including children—were among those killed and injured.

For more than a decade, I have reported from Russian-controlled territory, documenting the effects of this conflict on the people living there. One of my goals has always been to show stories that receive relatively little attention in much of the Western media.

The first thing you notice isn’t the explosion.

It’s the silence before it.

Standing with an artillery crew of Russia’s Veterans Brigade in the Kursk region, only a few kilometers from the border with Ukraine’s Sumy region, everyone suddenly became focused. The joking stopped. Radios came alive. Coordinates began coming in.

The gun crew immediately went to work.

Within moments, I found myself standing beside a 152mm Msta-B howitzer as the crew adjusted its aim, loaded the first shell, and prepared to fire across the border toward Ukrainian positions.

This wasn’t a training exercise.

This wasn’t a staged demonstration.

This was active combat.

Following the Veterans Brigade

For the past several reports, I’ve been following the Veterans Brigade to better understand how one Russian artillery unit operates during this stage of the Russia-Ukraine war.

First, I showed you their training.

Then I took you inside their repair workshop, where mechanics work around the clock repairing artillery pieces, generators, and equipment damaged through constant operations and the ever-present threat of drone attacks.

Now it was time to see everything come together on the battlefield.

Only after watching the preparation can you truly appreciate how quickly everything happens once combat begins.

Every maintenance check.

Every training drill.

Every hour spent preparing.

It all exists for moments like these.

Minutes From the Front

Unlike many wars of the past, modern artillery crews cannot remain in one position for long.

As soon as an artillery piece fires, electronic surveillance, counter-battery radar, drones, or reconnaissance aircraft may begin searching for its exact location.

The crew knows this.

Everyone moves with urgency.

There is no unnecessary conversation.

No wasted movement.

Commands are short.

The loading process is practiced.

Every member already knows exactly where to stand.

As I watched, targeting coordinates were passed to the crew.

The gun was adjusted.

The first 152mm shell was loaded.

The order came.

“Fire!”

The entire forest shook as the Msta-B thundered into action.

Before the echo had even faded, the crew was already preparing the next round.

Supporting Operations Near Sumy

According to the Russian military personnel I accompanied, this artillery mission was supporting Russian ground operations across the border in Ukraine’s Sumy region.

Russian officials say their forces have recently taken control of several villages there as part of a renewed offensive along this section of the frontier.

As with all active wars, battlefield claims from either side are often difficult to verify independently while fighting is ongoing. Both Russian and Ukrainian militaries regularly publish competing accounts of events.

What I can report with certainty is what I personally witnessed.

I watched artillery crews receive live targeting information.

I watched them fire multiple combat missions.

And I watched them prepare to leave immediately afterward because they believed remaining in one place for too long could prove deadly.

The Drone War Has Changed Artillery

Perhaps the biggest difference between today’s battlefield and those of previous wars is what happens after each shot is fired.

Years ago, an artillery crew primarily feared enemy artillery.

Today, they fear the sky.

Throughout my time with the Veterans Brigade, there was constant awareness of Ukrainian FPV drones and reconnaissance UAVs.

Every shell fired potentially reveals the gun’s position.

Every minute spent beside the howitzer increases the chance of being spotted.

Move.

Hide.

Leave.

The battlefield is under almost constant observation.

That reality has fundamentally changed how artillery crews operate.

A Well-Rehearsed Team

Watching the crew work together was like watching a carefully choreographed routine.

One man handled communications.

Another adjusted the gun.

Others loaded the heavy 152mm shells.

Every movement had been practiced countless times.

There was no confusion.

No hesitation.

When corrections came over the radio, they were immediately applied before the next round was fired.

The pace was relentless because everyone understood what could happen if they stayed exposed for too long.

Camouflage Means Survival

After the final rounds were fired, something happened that perfectly illustrates modern warfare.

Nobody celebrated.

Nobody discussed the results.

Instead, the gun commander simply told me they were going to disguise the position.

Within seconds, everyone shifted from firing to concealment.

The artillery position would be camouflaged before the crew withdrew to cover.

The commander explained that after firing, there is always the possibility of return fire or a drone strike.

Whether those threats materialize or not, the assumption is simple:

Act as though they will.

The Human Side of Combat

One thing that often gets overlooked is how ordinary many of these soldiers appear between moments of combat.

While waiting for orders, there is conversation.

There are jokes.

People ask questions.

Then the radio comes alive.

Instantly, everything changes.

Professionalism replaces casual conversation.

Every man knows exactly what he needs to do.

Within minutes, the mission is complete.

Then just as quickly, they disappear.

What I Saw

People often ask whether these reports are staged.

They’re not.

When I arrived, I had no idea whether anything would happen while I was there.

Sometimes you wait for hours.

Sometimes nothing happens at all.

This day was different.

Only minutes after arriving, the artillery crew received coordinates and immediately began their fire mission.

That unpredictability is exactly what makes frontline reporting both difficult and valuable.

Reality doesn’t follow a script.

Why I Continue Doing This

I’ve spent years reporting from both sides of the Russia-Ukraine war because I believe people deserve to see what is actually happening on the ground.

No government press release can replace standing beside the people living through these events.

No social media clip can fully explain what it’s like to feel the concussion of a 152mm artillery gun firing only meters away.

As I always tell viewers:

Don’t rely only on my reporting.

Watch Russian reports.

Read independent analysts.

Compare different perspectives.

No single journalist has the complete picture.

I certainly don’t.

While there is currently no indication that Britain’s support for Ukraine will immediately end, leadership transitions often create opportunities for policy changes. Much will depend on who replaces him. Current reports suggest that Andy Burnham is the leading candidate to become the next Labour leader and potentially Britain’s next prime minister.

The reality is that Britain is facing serious domestic challenges.

The country continues to struggle with economic pressures, rising public debt, immigration controversies, cost-of-living concerns, energy prices, and growing political polarization. Many British voters are increasingly focused on domestic issues rather than foreign policy. This political reality was one of the factors contributing to the pressure that ultimately forced Starmer from office.

As governments come under pressure at home, foreign commitments often face greater scrutiny.

This does not necessarily mean Britain will abandon Ukraine. In fact, most major political factions in Westminster still broadly support continued assistance. The timing is particularly important.

Starmer’s resignation comes at a moment when Ukraine faces increasing manpower challenges, continued Russian advances on several sectors of the front, and growing uncertainty regarding long-term Western support. At the same time, governments across Europe are facing political pressure from voters increasingly concerned about economic issues at home.

What may concern officials in Kiev even more is not the immediate impact of Starmer’s departure, but the broader trend it represents.

Finland’s Historic Nuclear Policy Shift Raises New Questions About NATO’s NUCLEAR Presence on Russia’s Border

A major shift has just taken place on Russia’s northern border.

Finland, NATO’s newest member and the alliance’s frontline state against Russia, has officially voted to remove a decades-old legal ban on nuclear weapons. The decision marks one of the most significant changes in Finnish security policy since the end of the Cold War and is already raising questions about the future of NATO’s nuclear posture in Northern Europe.

For decades, Finland maintained strict legislation prohibiting the import, transport, possession, or deployment of nuclear weapons on its territory. That law dated back to 1987, when Finland was still officially neutral and carefully balancing its relationship with the Soviet Union.

Now, that barrier is gone.

The Finnish Parliament voted to repeal the prohibition, allowing nuclear weapons to be transported through Finland or potentially stationed there under circumstances connected to Finland’s defense, NATO collective defense operations, or allied military cooperation.

Since joining NATO in 2023 following the escalation of the Russia-Ukraine war, Finland has rapidly deepened military cooperation with the United States and other NATO members.

In 2024, Finland signed a defense cooperation agreement granting the United States access to multiple Finnish military facilities. The new nuclear legislation means that, at least legally, Finland would no longer be an exception within NATO’s nuclear deterrence framework.

From Moscow’s perspective, this development is unlikely to be viewed as a mere technical legal adjustment.

Russian officials have repeatedly warned that any deployment of NATO nuclear assets closer to Russian territory would be viewed as an escalation. The Kremlin has consistently argued that NATO’s expansion toward Russia’s borders increases security risks rather than reducing them.

For Russian military planners, the possibility — even if only theoretical today — that NATO nuclear weapons could one day be stationed in Finland represents a significant strategic change.

NATO’s Expanding Nuclear Umbrella

Supporters of the Finnish move argue that nuclear deterrence has been a central pillar of NATO security for decades.

Several NATO countries already participate in nuclear-sharing arrangements, including Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Turkey. Under those arrangements, U.S. nuclear weapons can be stored on allied territory while remaining under American control.

NATO argues that such deployments deter aggression and help maintain stability by making the costs of any attack against alliance members prohibitively high.

Finland’s government maintains that the legal reform simply removes obstacles preventing the country from fully participating in NATO’s collective defense system.

However, opponents point out that NATO membership itself never required Finland to host nuclear weapons.

Many Finns remain divided on the issue. While support for NATO membership surged after the outbreak of large-scale fighting between Russia and Ukraine, public support for actually hosting nuclear weapons on Finnish territory remains far less certain.

Critics argue that removing the prohibition unnecessarily increases tensions with Russia while providing few practical benefits to Finland’s immediate security.

A New European Nuclear Debate

The timing of Finland’s decision is particularly notable.

Across Europe, discussions about nuclear deterrence are becoming increasingly prominent. European governments are rethinking defense policies after years of assuming that major war on the continent was unlikely.

France has proposed expanding aspects of its nuclear deterrent role within Europe as uncertainty grows about the future security environment and the long-term structure of NATO deterrence.

At the same time, military spending is increasing across the continent, with many governments warning that Europe must prepare for a more dangerous geopolitical landscape.

Finland’s legislative change gives it flexibility to participate in future discussions about NATO and European nuclear policy without being constrained by its previous domestic legal restrictions.

The Shelter Nation

One aspect of Finland often overlooked in international discussions is its unique civil defense system.

For decades, Finland has invested heavily in preparing for worst-case scenarios. The country maintains more than 50,000 civil defense shelters capable of protecting much of its population during wartime emergencies.

These preparations date back to the Cold War and reflect Finland’s longstanding awareness of its geographic position next to Russia.

Unlike many Western countries that reduced civil defense infrastructure after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Finland continued maintaining and modernizing its shelter network.

Today, those shelters remain operational as Europe once again discusses nuclear deterrence, military mobilization, and the possibility of great-power confrontation.

A Wider Trend Along Russia’s Borders

Finland’s decision does not exist in isolation.

Over the past several years, NATO has expanded military infrastructure across Eastern Europe. Additional troops, air defense systems, missile defenses, and military exercises have become increasingly common in countries bordering Russia.

Supporters view these measures as necessary responses to growing security concerns and as a way to reassure NATO members located near Russia.

Critics argue that the cumulative effect is creating a security dilemma in which both sides respond to each other’s actions with further military buildups, increasing tensions and the risk of miscalculation.

As relations between Russia and the West continue to deteriorate, every new military development is increasingly viewed through the lens of strategic competition.

The Bigger Question

Supporters say Finland’s decision strengthens deterrence and reduces the chance of war by making NATO’s security guarantees more credible.

Critics argue it risks bringing nuclear weapons even closer to Russia’s borders and could contribute to a new arms race in Northern Europe.

For now, Finland says it has no intention of hosting nuclear weapons permanently.

But the legal barrier that once prevented it has been removed.

As NATO and Russia continue to expand military activities along one of Europe’s longest and most sensitive frontiers, the question many will ask is simple:

Is this merely a defensive adjustment to a changing security environment?

Or is NATO moving nuclear capabilities ever closer to Russia’s doorstep?

The answer may shape European security for years to come.

After drone attacks targeted three commercial tankers off Turkey’s northern coast, reports have begun circulating that shipowners are increasingly turning to private maritime security companies—including American firms—to help protect civilian vessels operating in high-risk waters.

The developments highlight growing concerns within the shipping industry as commercial vessels find themselves increasingly exposed to threats once associated primarily with military conflict zones.

Three Tankers Attacked in the Black Sea

According to Reuters, three tankers were attacked by drones on May 28 while operating in the Black Sea near Turkey’s northern coastline.

The tanker James II, sailing under the flag of Palau, was reportedly located approximately 80 kilometers north of the Turkeli region when the attack occurred. Two additional tankers, Altura and Velora, both sailing under the flag of Sierra Leone, were also reportedly struck in the same area during cargo transfer operations.

Images published after the attacks appeared to show drones bearing the word “POLICE” painted on their hulls.

No major casualties were reported, but the incidents immediately raised concerns throughout the maritime industry.

Most importantly, the attacks demonstrated that commercial shipping in the Black Sea is increasingly vulnerable to the same drone warfare that has transformed military operations throughout the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Reports of Private Security Deployments

Following the attacks, reports emerged claiming that shipowners are seeking additional protection for vessels operating in both the Black Sea and parts of the Mediterranean.

According to these reports, private military and maritime security companies, including American firms specializing in armed maritime protection, are being contracted to provide security services for commercial shipping.

The reported responsibilities of these security teams include:

• Monitoring for unmanned surface vessels and maritime drones.

• Protecting vessels from potential boarding attempts.

• Assisting crews during security incidents.

• Deterring unauthorized interference with commercial shipping.

It has also been reported that some shipping companies are adopting security arrangements similar to those used during anti-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden, where privately contracted armed security teams became common aboard commercial vessels transiting high-risk waters.

If accurate, such developments would represent a significant shift in the security environment of the Black Sea and could signal growing concern within the shipping industry over the expanding maritime dimension of the conflict.

Echoes of the Gulf of Aden

Maritime security experts have noted that if the threat level continues to rise, the shipping industry already has a historical model to follow.

During the height of Somali piracy, merchant vessels regularly carried Privately Contracted Armed Security Personnel, or PCASP, to protect crews and cargo while transiting dangerous waters.

Armed security teams became commonplace aboard commercial vessels moving through the Gulf of Aden and other high-risk areas.

What makes the current situation different is the nature of the threat.

Traditional anti-piracy teams were primarily designed to prevent hijackings and boarding attempts. Defending against modern drone attacks, unmanned surface vessels, and advanced surveillance systems presents an entirely different challenge.

Whether private security companies can effectively address these threats remains an open question.

The Maritime Front of the Conflict

The attacks on James II, Altura, and Velora may ultimately be remembered as more than isolated incidents.

They could represent another sign that the maritime dimension of the conflict is expanding, bringing commercial shipping ever closer to the front lines.

As shipowners, insurers, and governments evaluate the risks, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: the Black Sea is no longer simply a trade route. It is becoming a contested security environment where civilian vessels must navigate not only commercial pressures, but the realities of modern warfare.

Whether the reported use of private maritime security escorts becomes a temporary response or the beginning of a long-term trend remains to be seen. What is clear is that the security challenges facing civilian shipping continue to grow, and commercial operators are increasingly being forced to adapt to a rapidly changing threat environment`

In recent years, the topic of separatism in Canada has resurfaced. And while similar movements exist in different regions, Alberta is now considered the main center of this movement.

According to various estimates, between 20% and 30% of the province’s population may support the idea of separation. But what do ordinary people actually think?

🗣️ “It’s just a waste of time”

The first thing that stands out is the strong division of opinions.

Many of the people I spoke to believe that talk of independence is greatly exaggerated.

One local told me directly:

“Nothing is going to happen. It’s just a small group of people. A waste of public time.”

According to him, most Canadians — including people in Alberta — do not support separation. He compared it to the movement in Quebec: loud, but not a real threat to the country.

⚖️ “It’s a tiny minority”

Another person was even more blunt:

“It’s a bunch of idiots looking for likes and views.”

He emphasized that the movement has no real support and also pointed out serious legal challenges.

According to him, if Alberta were to separate, it could even lose a significant portion of its land, since much of it is tied to treaties with Indigenous peoples.

🔥 “We feed the country — and get nothing back”

But there is another side.

I spoke with a woman who openly supports separation and has already signed a petition for a referendum.

Her position was far more emotional and deeply rooted:

“Alberta has been providing for this country for decades. We have the richest natural resources. Yet we’re constantly ignored.”

She believes the federal government and eastern provinces, especially Ontario, treat Alberta unfairly.

Her main argument is economic:

• Alberta contributes more to the federal budget

• But receives less in return

• The money goes to other regions

“We’re tired of sending our money and getting nothing back.”

💰 Economy and resources — the key argument

Supporters of separation often focus on the same points:

• Oil and gas

• Natural resources

• Economic independence

In their view, Alberta could function on its own — and possibly even thrive without federal control.

“Canada can’t live without Alberta. But Alberta can live without Canada.”

⚠️ Accusations of “treason”

Interestingly, the movement is already facing strong criticism.

Some even call it “treason.”

But supporters strongly disagree:

“It’s not treason. It’s democracy.”

They believe this is about a region’s right to decide its own future.

🌍 The question remains open

When I asked people how widespread support for separatism really is, the answers varied widely.

Some said — “almost nobody.”

Others — “almost everyone I know.”

As usual, the truth is likely somewhere in between.

❓ What’s next?

At this point:

• There is no official referendum

• No clear political plan

• But growing dissatisfaction

And the main question remains:

👉 Is this just talk?
👉 Or the beginning of a real political process?

My report from Alberta shows one thing — the country is not united on this issue.

On one side are those who see separation as absurd.
On the other — those who feel economically and politically neglected.

And while some say “nothing will happen,” others are already signing petitions.

The overwhelming response I heard from people was clear — most Canadians simply do not support the idea.

One man told me he has never met a Canadian who wants Canada to become the 51st state. According to him, there might be a very small minority that would support the idea, but it would likely come only from people involved in the Alberta separatist movement.

Even then, he said he believes the idea of Canada joining the United States is extremely unlikely.

Technically, some people acknowledged that almost anything is possible in politics. But nearly everyone I spoke with said they do not believe it would ever actually happen.

Strong Feelings About Canadian Sovereignty

Some Canadians expressed strong opinions about the idea itself.

One resident told me that Canada is a sovereign nation and should remain that way, regardless of what foreign politicians might say.

He criticized the suggestion that another country could absorb Canada and said that decisions about Canada’s future belong to Canadians alone.

Another person pointed out that while political figures can make bold statements, actually turning those statements into reality would be an entirely different matter.

The Alberta Separatism Question

The discussion also turned to Alberta’s ongoing separatist movement, which has periodically raised the possibility of the province becoming independent from Canada.

Some people said that Alberta’s political tensions with the federal government have created frustration in the region. However, even among those who support greater autonomy for Alberta, joining the United States is not necessarily the goal.

One person told me that if Alberta were ever to become independent, the goal would likely be true independence, not becoming another U.S. state.

According to him, the movement is largely about reducing what some see as government overreach, and joining another large federal system would not solve that issue.

Canadians Also Critical of U.S. Politics

Some of the Canadians I spoke with also expressed skepticism about the United States itself.

One interviewee questioned why Canadians would want to join a country that he believes is currently facing political instability and internal divisions.

He said that from his perspective, the United States is dealing with serious challenges to its political system and democratic institutions. For that reason, he believes most Canadians would not want to attach their country’s future to that situation.

Many Canadians Simply Laugh at the Idea

For some people, the entire conversation about Canada becoming the 51st state is not something they take seriously at all.

One person told me that many Canadians simply laugh when they hear the idea, seeing it more as political rhetoric than a real possibility.

According to him, the majority of Canadians agree that Canada should remain its own country and have no interest in becoming part of the United States.

Final Thoughts From the Streets of Calgary

After speaking with several people in Calgary, the general mood was clear.

While political debates about sovereignty, separatism, and international relations continue, the Canadians I spoke with overwhelmingly said they do not want Canada to become the 51st state of the United States.

The idea may occasionally appear in headlines or political statements, but on the streets of Calgary, most people view it as unrealistic.

As always, hearing directly from ordinary people provides a much clearer picture of public opinion than political speculation alone.

The Decriminalization Experiment

Drugs in Canada were partially decriminalized as part of a so-called “harm reduction” policy. The plan was that safe consumption sites, medical support, and social programs would help reduce overdose deaths.

But after some time, the numbers showed a troubling trend — overdose deaths sharply increased.

After a year of this experiment, authorities re-criminalized drug use in public places. However, use in private spaces and in designated consumption sites remains allowed.

That is why on the streets of Vancouver you can now see a strange contradiction.

Drugs in the Open

Walking through East Hastings at night, I almost immediately saw open drug use.

Some people were smoking from pipes right on the sidewalk. In one area, I witnessed what appeared to be an obvious drug deal — one person handing something to another in plain sight.

All of it was happening right in front of passersby.

I was alone, so I did not want to provoke people too much by putting a camera directly in their faces. These people are not animals in a zoo. These are real people whose lives have been broken.

But even without the camera, it was clear that drugs here have become part of daily life.

Safe Consumption Sites

There are medical points and centers in the area where people can use drugs under supervision.

Supporters of this policy say these centers save lives by reducing the risk of overdose, especially from fentanyl.

Some activists even want the system expanded further, with broader access to so-called “safe supply” drugs.

According to them, this would keep people from dying from toxic street drugs with unknown contents.

Critics, however, argue that these policies only deepen addiction and draw even more people into this district.

Day and Night on the Street

At night, the street was relatively quiet. I only saw a few people openly using drugs.

But the next day, the picture changed.

During the daytime, many volunteer groups, religious missions, and aid organizations arrive on Hastings Street.

They hand out:

• food

• clothing

• blankets

• medical kits

• clean needles

• overdose-reversal medication

I noticed that many people were carrying small medical pouches on their waistbands. These appeared to be distributed either by volunteer groups or public services.

Volunteers on the Ground

I met a group of volunteers who come out to Hastings Street every week.

One of them told me they are part of a Christian outreach group called Love One Another Canada Mission, and every Saturday they come to hand out food to the homeless.

According to him, many people here are suffering not only from addiction, but also from loneliness and hopelessness.

Their goal is not to change government policy, but simply to help people and share hope.

A View from the Street

I was also able to speak with one local man in the area.

He said that most people only see the negative images — people lying on the ground, passed out, or nodding off from drugs.

But according to him, very few people show how many others come here every day to help.

He also said that police regularly carry out sweeps, removing homeless tents and belongings, forcing people to constantly replace sleeping bags and shelter.

In his view, this only makes the crisis worse.

Police and Open Drug Use

While filming, I noticed something striking.

Right next to police vehicles, people continued openly using drugs.

No one seemed to intervene.

That raises serious questions.

Why are police not reacting?
Is this a consequence of the new policy?
Or is it simply an attempt not to make the situation even worse?

An Atmosphere of Tension

While I was filming, one person warned me that on East Hastings there can be problems if you record what is happening.

At one point, something was even thrown in my direction.

Fortunately, police were nearby.

It was another reminder of how tense and unstable this area remains.

What Is Really Happening Here?

East Hastings is a place of contradictions.

Here, you can see all at once:

• drug addiction

• homelessness

• charity

• religious outreach

• government support programs

Some believe that harm reduction policies are saving lives.

Others are convinced they have only made the crisis worse.

There is no easy answer yet.

But one thing is clear — the problem here is massive.

And it affects not only Vancouver, but all of Canada.

The Strait of Hormuz — One of the Most Dangerous Chokepoints on Earth

Russia and China have announced naval drills near the Strait of Hormuz.

I personally passed through that strait during my service in the U.S. Navy during Operation Iraqi Freedom. It is a narrow and extremely vulnerable maritime corridor — at its tightest point, ships pass within roughly 20 kilometers of Iranian territory. It is a strategic chokepoint through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply flows.

If the Strait of Hormuz is closed, the global economic impact would be immediate.

Demonstrations in Tehran

In Tehran, large crowds have reportedly gathered in support of Iranian authorities, chanting anti-U.S. and anti-Israel slogans while air defenses attempt to intercept incoming missiles.

At the same time, a serious question arises: was the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader an act of war — or an assassination? Was it conducted within the rules of international law?

Reports suggest his son, Mojtaba, may become the new Supreme Leader. He has long been described as a shadow power within the system, overseeing key IRGC appointments and intelligence structures.

So what really changes — if anything?

The Conflict Expands Beyond the Middle East

There are reports that drones have struck a British air base in Cyprus — EU territory.

This conflict is beginning to pull Europe into the equation.

The question is no longer whether this is regional.
The question is how quickly it could become global.

The Nuclear Question: Reality or Pretext?

For decades, Israel and the United States have argued that Iran was close to developing nuclear weapons.

But if that were true, why haven’t we seen a nuclear detonation?

The wounded arrive: first diagnostics, then the scalpel

The first thing doctors do is identify exactly where the shrapnel is and what’s damaged. Two soldiers are immediately sent for X-rays. This isn’t routine — shrapnel can sit inside the body in a way that looks “manageable” on the outside, until it suddenly becomes too late.

I’m told they’re about to operate in the same room, side by side, and that essentially two surgeries will be happening in parallel. War forces these realities. Nobody here is performing for the camera — they’re racing the clock.

Before I enter the operating area, I’m given protective gear: mask and full body covering. The reason is simple — don’t bring germs in, don’t create another problem for the people fighting to keep someone alive.

“Drone. Yes.” The wound went through the chest and into the abdomen

Doctors explain the initial assessment. The words are clinical, but the reality behind them is brutal:

• A penetrating thoracoabdominal wound: the projectile went through the chest cavity and into the abdominal cavity.

• Left lung injury: blood and air in the pleural cavity — classic signs of a punctured lung.

• Signs of fluid/blood in the abdomen as well.

I ask the wounded man what happened. He answers plainly: “Drone. Drone.” He says it’s hard to dodge them — unpleasant, difficult, almost impossible sometimes.

A doctor beside him sounds confident: they’ll operate now and everything will be fine. But out here, words are just words. What matters next is what happens on the table.

The surgical plan: chest drainage first, then abdominal surgery

They explain the steps:

Stage 1: pleural drainage.
A special drain is placed to remove air and blood and help the lung re-expand. When the lung isn’t working properly, every breath becomes a struggle — and that has to be corrected immediately.

Stage 2: laparotomy (abdominal surgery).
They suspect serious internal injuries — potentially the spleen and intestines — but they won’t know for sure until the abdomen is opened.

Inside the operating room: ten people around one patient

I see how many people it takes. Around the table there are about ten doctors and nurses. Frontline surgery isn’t “one surgeon and one assistant.” It’s a system: someone holds the field, someone monitors blood pressure, someone handles anesthesia, someone prepares instruments, someone tracks vital signs and timing. Everyone has a job, and everyone moves with purpose.

And it becomes clear: frontline medicine isn’t chaos, like many imagine. It’s strict discipline, where seconds matter and everybody knows their role.

The worst suspicion is confirmed: blood around the heart

Then comes a diagnosis that makes everything feel heavier:
hemopericardium — blood in the pericardial sac around the heart. That raises the suspicion of a heart injury. The projectile’s path suggests it may have struck the heart or liver, and then continued toward the stomach. There’s blood in the abdomen, and a stomach wound is suspected too.

The plan adapts in real time: first they’ll check the heart — evaluate the pericardium and drain it if needed — and if there’s confirmation of damage, they’ll operate on the heart, and only then move on to the stomach.

“The surgeon is holding his heart in his hand”: open-heart surgery on the front line

And then comes the moment I’ll never forget.

Through the camera inserted into the chest, we can see the heart and lungs. And then — no theory, no distance — the surgeon is literally holding the man’s heart in his hand.

They show me a small injury: a tiny projectile went right through the heart. This isn’t a metaphor. This is open-heart surgery.

I document what’s happening: the surgeon begins sewing the heart where the shrapnel entered and exited. At one point, I notice a small piece of tissue on the end of the needle — my understanding is that it’s being used like a patch to cover the hole in the heart and stabilize the damage.

This is the side of war most people never see: not just the fighting, but what it does to the human body.

A detail that hits hard: a smoker’s lungs

At one point the doctors show the lungs and explain the dark lines — the man is a smoker. In the middle of a life-or-death operation, it feels like a reminder of normal life — the kind of normal life many people out here don’t have anymore. But it’s also a medical reality: a body already under extreme stress is taking extra damage from addiction.

Surgery outcome: the heart is stable, next is the stomach

Later, doctors say the heart has been closed and stabilized — sinus rhythm, stable pressure, the patient is holding on. The operation isn’t finished though: now the focus shifts to the stomach and the abdominal wounds.

I don’t keep asking questions. In a place like this, every second spent “talking for the interview” can be a second taken from saving someone’s life.

Why I show this

At the end of the report, I say what I believe: people need to see information from multiple sides, compare sources, and think for themselves. No single source has the whole picture. But if people never see moments like this at all — they’ll never understand what’s really happening.

This report is about what war looks like when you’re standing in an operating room and a doctor is sewing a human heart back together. Not in a movie. Not in a studio. Not in theory. Here. Now. On the front line.

Foreign Fighters Inside the Hospital

In previous reports, I documented a noticeable increase in foreign fighters—especially from African countries—joining Russian forces. Inside this field hospital, I see the same pattern again.

I meet a fighter with the callsign Levi, who is from Colombia. He is not an isolated case.

Over the last 24–48 hours alone, I have personally encountered multiple foreign fighters in one location, a level of concentration I have not seen before.

Interview: A Fighter From Mali — Why He Is Here

I speak with a wounded fighter from Mali. He tells me directly that he came to Russia seeking residency and citizenship. His family is currently outside Russia, and his goal is to bring them here. When I ask why, his answer is simple:
“I like Russia. Life is good here.”

He has been serving for about six months. When asked whether Russia takes care of its fighters and whether he received training, he says yes—and strongly rejects claims that foreigners are sent to the front without preparation.

I ask whether he wants his face blurred for safety. He says it is fine to show it.

He also mentions friends from Kenya and Benin, reinforcing how international this force has become.

How the Field Hospital Works — Explained by a Senior Doctor

Next, I’m given a full tour by one of the senior doctors.

Everything begins in the reception and triage area:

• wounded are examined by the duty doctor,

• changed into clean clothing if necessary,

• then sent for diagnostics.

The hospital is equipped with X-ray, scan/CT, and ultrasound for limbs, abdomen, and chest. These tools allow doctors to quickly determine fractures, shrapnel injuries, and whether there are penetrating wounds.

After diagnostics, a decision is made:

• dressing room,

• operating room,

• or observation and pain management.

Dressing Room

Almost every patient passes through here. This is where:

• wounds are cleaned and treated,

• surgical wound care is performed,

• splints and casts are applied for fractures.

Intensive Care Unit

The ICU is reserved for the most severe cases. It includes ventilators and has a direct exit from the operating room, allowing critical patients to be transferred immediately.

Operating Rooms

According to the doctor, nearly all types of surgery are performed here, except complex neurosurgery involving the brain. He also demonstrates minimally invasive diagnostic equipment, where a camera is inserted through a small incision to check for internal injuries.

Who Funds the Hospital

I ask a straightforward question: who pays for all of this equipment?

The doctor explains that funding comes from the Ministry of Defense, the Akhmat-affiliated foundation, and humanitarian donations from civilians who actively raise funds for medicines and medical equipment.

“This Is Not a TV Show. These Are Real Lives.”

Standing inside this hospital, the reality is unmistakable. It doesn’t matter where a patient is from—Russian, African, or Colombian. Every person who comes through these doors is treated by doctors whose sole goal is to save that life.

Even the doctors train like soldiers. Inside the hospital is a gym where medical staff maintain their physical readiness. This is a frontline environment, and everyone here carries that burden.

What Western Media Will Not Show You

Over recent months, I have brought you multiple reports from this territory — reports you will never see in Western mainstream media. The reason is simple: this reality does not fit the narrative they want to present.

This Humvee is a clear example of how Western-supplied military equipment changes hands directly on the battlefield.

According to Russian soldiers on the ground, the vehicle was discovered during a combat operation in a forested area. It had a crew of two, came under fire, and was subsequently captured and removed from the battlefield.

One of the soldiers told me:

“I don’t even have a driver’s license — I just got in and drove.”

Repairs and a Return to Combat

The vehicle is currently in a garage, where it is being repaired and restored to working condition. Once repairs are complete, the Humvee will be sent back into combat operations.

And this is not an isolated case. Another Humvee has already been repaired and is actively being used in combat. This one is still under repair but, according to the soldiers, will be ready in the near future.

Russian repair crews joke that they will “do what the Pentagon couldn’t do” — restore the vehicle and possibly make it even more combat-ready than it was when it left the factory.

Inside the American Armored Vehicle

I took a close look inside the captured Humvee. The vehicle shows clear signs of heavy use and damage from previous battles. During its capture, it once again came under intense fire.

Some aspects of the vehicle are surprising. Under the hood, parts appear to be made of fiberglass rather than Kevlar. There is a lot of plastic throughout the vehicle. Even the Goodyear tires did not last long under combat conditions.

Yes, the armored windows held up reasonably well. But overall, the level of protection appears far below what is often advertised in official statements and promotional materials.

Another U.S. Armored Vehicle Under Russian Control

Nearby is another Western-supplied vehicle — a U.S.-made M113 armored personnel carrier. It too was captured in combat and is now under Russian control.

The vehicle has sustained multiple hits and requires significant repairs before it can return to the front. Inside, there are markings and labels written in the Ukrainian language, added after the vehicle was delivered to Ukraine — further confirming its origin.

I have seen many of these vehicles throughout the war zone — in the Kursk region and in other areas of heavy fighting. I have seen them destroyed. I have seen them used by Russian forces. This is not an exception, but a regular reality of this war.

Why This Matters

I always emphasize one thing: no single source has all the information. I do not claim to have all the answers.

I encourage you to watch reports from many different sources, listen to different perspectives, think critically, and form your own informed opinion.

But if you rely only on Western mainstream media, you will never see this side of the war. Because they do not want to show information that challenges their narrative.

I believe you deserve more.

This is not a place most journalists ever get to see — let alone film. It’s a frontline medical facility treating wounded Russian soldiers and foreign volunteers under constant threat from drones and artillery. I know this hospital personally. In a previous report, doctors here treated my own crushed hand after an injury near the front line.

But this time, I came here for another reason.

We received information that foreign fighters — particularly from Africa — are being treated here, fighting on the side of Russia. That alone directly contradicts what Western media repeatedly claims: that foreigners are not treated, are used as “cannon fodder,” or are simply discarded.

What I saw here tells a very different story.

A Hospital That Treats Everyone

The director of the hospital explained to me that this is one of the rear medical facilities of the 4th Akhmat Brigade. They treat not only special forces fighters, but anyone who arrives needing medical care — including foreigners.

“We don’t divide people by nationality,” he told me. “On my operating table, there is no nationality. There are no bad nations — only bad people.”

Since 2022, this hospital has treated wounded fighters from France, Italy, the United States, Africa, Asia, and many other places. Some were even fighting against Russia before being captured or wounded.

According to the medical staff, many foreign patients are shocked when they realize they are being treated humanely — fed, given medical care, and shown respect.

That reaction, the doctors say, comes from fear created by Western and Ukrainian propaganda.

Africans Fighting for Russia — I Met Them Face to Face

Inside the hospital, I met multiple African fighters who are currently serving in Russian units.

One of them, Abdula — call sign “Alpha” — is from Mali. He told me he came to Russia to fight and hopes to gain Russian citizenship. He’s been in Russia for three years. His wife is already here, studying. His parents remain in Mali.

Why did he come?

“Because here there is work,” he explained. “In Mali, there is work, but the salary is very low.”

He also described how French forces were in Mali for ten years without solving the security problems, and how things changed after Russian involvement.

Abdula was wounded by an FPV drone while delivering supplies. He described watching the drone circle overhead, trying to escape, firing at it, and then being hit by shrapnel in the shoulder and leg.

Despite the injury, he told me clearly: many Africans are coming here, and he believes economic reality is one of the biggest reasons.

“We Knew What We Were Coming For”

Another fighter I spoke with is from Zimbabwe. His name is Happy — call sign “Pitbull.” He previously worked as a nurse for over 12 years back home.

He told me he responded to recruitment advertisements offering work in Russia. He knew before arriving that he would be fighting.

“We weren’t fooled,” he said. “We knew before we came.”

His training lasted about a month. He says he has been treated well, and he strongly rejected claims that foreign fighters are abused or thrown into battle.

“That’s propaganda,” he said. “People who say that didn’t expect the situation and are trying to escape responsibility.”

He plans to complete his one-year contract, obtain Russian citizenship, and eventually bring his wife and three children to Russia.

A Third African Fighter Arrives — Unexpected

Just when I thought the report was over, another African volunteer arrived at the hospital — this time from South Africa.

He had just joined the Russian army and was wounded almost immediately by a drone while doing supply deliveries — one of the most dangerous jobs near the front line.

He told me clearly:
“They give us good equipment. I’ve already been paid once.”

He plans to serve for one year, then return home to his family.

In just 24 hours, I personally met three African fighters from three different countries — Mali, Zimbabwe, and South Africa — all fighting for Russia.

Others told me they had seen over 100 Africans during recruitment and processing.

Brotherhood Beyond Religion

One of the most striking things about this hospital is what stands at its center:
A mosque and an Orthodox Christian chapel built side by side.

The staff told me this represents the ideology of Akhmat Special Forces — brotherhood beyond religion or ethnicity.

Muslims pray. Orthodox Christians pray. Each according to their faith. No one interferes with the other.

I was told a story of two Chechen Muslim fighters carrying a severely wounded Orthodox soldier into the chapel so he could pray before evacuation. Afterward, they prayed themselves.

This is not symbolism for cameras. It’s how they live.

Why Are Africans Coming?

According to the doctors and fighters, there are several reasons:

• Economic collapse and low wages in many African countries

• Russia’s role in Mali, Central African Republic, and elsewhere

• Gratitude for Russian military support against extremist groups

• Opportunity for stable work, citizenship, and family security

• Rejection of Western narratives and colonial history

Whether one agrees or disagrees politically, this movement is real — and it’s growing.

What Western Media Won’t Show You

Western audiences are told that Wagner, Akhmat, and Russian forces abuse prisoners, execute captives, and exploit foreigners.

Inside this hospital, I saw something else entirely:

• Foreigners treated medically and humanely

• Prisoners fed and cared for

• Fighters of all races and religions treated equally

You don’t have to agree with Russia to acknowledge facts.

And the fact is this:
Africans are coming to fight for Russia — in large numbers.

I saw it with my own eyes.

Final Thoughts

This report wasn’t planned this way. It unfolded in real time — interviews I didn’t expect, fighters arriving unexpectedly, and stories you will not see on Western television.

That’s why I do what I do.

The Akhmat Hospital: where they treat soldiers — and civilians too

Right now, I’m at a hospital connected to Russian forces and the Akhmat special forces. I’ve been here before — I did a full report and a full tour of this hospital, and I showed that civilians were treated here as well, not just soldiers.

“The cast was done incorrectly”

From the moment I sit down, the doctor makes it clear: the problem isn’t just the fracture — it’s also how my hand was immobilized earlier. He’s already seen pictures of my injury and asks where I got my cast.

His conclusion is direct: the cast was made incorrectly, and because of that, the bone shifted even further out of position. He needs high-quality images — and he wants a fresh X-ray immediately.

A mobile X-ray unit in field conditions

They take me to get another X-ray. And here’s something you don’t see every day: a mobile X-ray machine. It’s designed for situations like this — where you can’t always rely on a full hospital setup.

The doctors explain that they need to see exactly how the fragments are positioned so the surgeons can do the repositioning correctly, accurately, and fast. The new imaging confirms it: there’s displacement inside.

“We’re going to straighten it”

The doctor shows the misalignment on the X-ray — the bone isn’t following the correct axis, and part of it is sitting wrong. I ask the obvious question: “And that’s not a good thing?” His answer is just as obvious: of course it’s not.

The plan is:

1. manually reset the bone,

2. fix everything with plaster,

3. take another X-ray,

4. and then decide if surgery is necessary.

At another hospital a week earlier, they told me I needed surgery. Here, the doctor says surgery is possible — but first they’ll try to set everything without operating.

“Why have surgery if we can do without it?”

I ask if they’ll need to cut me open or put in a metal plate. The answer: not right now. They want to try without metal and without surgery.

And another detail comes up in the conversation: if surgery is needed, it wouldn’t be done here — because it would require plates, and they don’t have plates available. This is more of a stabilization and field-treatment setting, but they can attempt repositioning.

The first reset: painful — exactly like you’d expect

Before the procedure, they talk about painkillers and a local anesthetic. But resetting a bone manually is not a gentle process.

On camera, it’s raw and real: I say it hurts. There’s yelling, cursing, and straight-up reality. It’s the first time in my life I’ve ever had a bone reset — and it’s exactly as painful as you’d imagine.

After that, they send me back for X-rays to see if the bone is back where it should be.

Better — but not perfect

The new X-ray shows improvement. The alignment is closer, but not fully corrected. The doctor explains that we’ve almost straightened the bone, but there’s still some angle left.

He’s clear: we have to be patient. If it doesn’t work out, surgery may still be required.

I agree to keep going.

The second reset: “punitive medicine,” but a chance to avoid surgery

They do the repositioning again. The doctors ask for help — pulling, holding, stabilizing. It’s brutal, but the goal is simple: avoid surgery if possible.

At one point, someone jokes about “punitive medicine,” but the meaning is obvious — the method is harsh, but it might save me from an operation.

The result: still an angle, but twice as good as before

In the end, the doctor says the angle is still there — around 30 degrees — but it used to be much worse, around 60. So it’s significantly better.

They give me clear instructions:

• wear the cast for about a month,

• do nothing with the hand and reduce activity as much as possible,

• get another X-ray in a month,

• take pain medication they write down,

• and keep the hand supported in a sling/scarf so it stays elevated.

I thank them — the main thing is that we avoided surgery for now, and that’s a big win.

To be continued: moving closer to the front line

The story doesn’t end here. I’m staying overnight in the hospital living quarters, because in the morning I’m going with the director farther toward the front line — to a more active field hospital.

From what I understand, that’s where wounded soldiers come directly from the front with bullet wounds and shrapnel, and where they’re worked on before they’re stabilized — where lives are saved… or not.

And just like always, I’m going to keep pushing forward to get you firsthand information.

One young man speaks calmly, like it’s a normal memory, but you can hear something heavier underneath: his parents woke him up at night and hid him in the basement. He asked what was happening. They told him, “The war has started.” For him, that was the beginning of a reality that has lasted for eleven years.

Other residents remember the same thing, just in different details: mines “flew right over my head,” over a house in the private sector. Someone talks about three months without electricity. Someone else remembers being six years old when three shells hit their home and blew out all the windows. People don’t describe it like “a story from the news.” They speak like people who lived it.

And that’s where the main conflict of this video begins—not a military one, but an information one.

Two realities: “Eastern Ukraine” and “Russia”

I’m in the center of Donetsk. Formally, through the Western international-law lens, this region is called “eastern Ukraine.” Under Russian law, it’s considered part of Russia. And no matter which side of this conflict you support, the fact remains: one territory now has two “official realities,” depending on which side of the front line—and the narrative line—you stand on.

But if you go to Kiev, they will tell you, “This is part of Ukraine occupied by Russia.” Here in Donetsk, I’m doing something different—I’m asking the people who live here and have lived through this entire war. Not politicians. Not studio experts. The people who know the real cost of the words “war,” “shelling,” and “occupation.”

Because if we want to understand what’s really happening on the ground, the most important source is the people living inside it.

The question that breaks the TV narrative: “Is there a Russian occupation here?”

For ten years Western media has repeated: “Russia occupied peaceful cities in Donbass.” I ask people a simple question—true or not?

And the answers are the opposite of what many Western viewers have been told:

“There is definitely no occupation. I can say the opposite.”
“When Russia came, it got much better. We’ve been waiting for this for a long time.”
“Without Russia it was worse. With Russia everything is fine.”

One man says confidently, “This is Russia. The Russian Federation.” I ask if he’s local—he says yes. I ask how other locals feel—50/50? He answers, “I can’t speak for everyone, but I believe the majority is still in favor of Russia.”

Another resident says the very word “occupation” doesn’t make sense to him because his family has always advocated for the Russian language and the right to speak it. “So I don’t understand what kind of occupation this is about.”

And this matters: people are not speaking “from a script.” They’re speaking what they believe. Sometimes softly, sometimes bluntly. But it’s their lived experience and their position.

How residents explain the cause of the war

When I ask, “Who is to blame?” one man answers carefully: it’s a difficult question. The war has gone on for a long time. He accuses the Ukrainian government of allowing the war to break out here, as well as those who are “sponsoring it from abroad.”

But what connects almost everyone is exhaustion.
People want “a peaceful sky above our heads.” They want stability. They want to live without constantly waiting for the next strike.

That breaks another stereotype—that everyone here “wants war.” Many say the war is terrifying, children died, and you can’t understand it unless you lived it.

“It’s not a war, it’s an SMO” and the expectation of victory

One man says it directly: “First of all, it’s not a war, but a special military operation.” He adds: “It’s getting better and better. Russia will win soon.”

This is important not because you have to agree with him, but because it shows that some residents interpret events through a Russian framework of terms and meaning. Western audiences often hear this language only from officials—here it comes from an ordinary person on the street.

Drones, strikes, energy: the war is still close

Even in central Donetsk, people talk about explosions and drones. When I ask, “Are these Ukrainian or Russian drones?” the answer is: “Ukrainian. Our drones fly further away, closer to the enemy.”

He explains that strikes target energy infrastructure, which is why heating and electricity disappear. This echoes what I heard earlier: “Ukraine is bombing our energy and infrastructure.” “We were without electricity for three months.”

For many, this isn’t “politics.” It’s the everyday cost of war.

“Russia helps”: humanitarian aid, water, rebuilding

Another participant says: “No, this is not an occupation. Russia helped our people.” Then he gives specifics: support for the army, humanitarian aid, water.

He says there were serious water problems near Donetsk, and Russia set up large barrels for residents and filled them regularly. He describes water deliveries and distribution points—emphasizing that “now the city is being rebuilt, infrastructure is improving, roads are being repaired.”

They also mention Mariupol: “It’s being rebuilt. Roads are being repaired.” And again, the key line returns: “This is not an occupation.”

“Will Donbass return to Ukraine?” — “No”

I ask the question that, according to the Western narrative, should produce fear or uncertainty: “Could Donbass return to Ukraine?”

The answers are nearly identical:

“Impossible.”
“After everything that happened, we won’t want to return.”
“The people won’t allow it.”

One person adds: “We’re tired of changes in government. We want stability.” And stresses: “We are part of the Russian Federation.”

Even those who cautiously say “I can’t speak for everyone” still describe their surroundings as people who reject the idea of returning under Kiev’s control.

What this report challenges

This report doesn’t “prove someone right.” It challenges the illusion that you can talk about Donetsk without listening to Donetsk.

Because the core of the Western claim—“Russia occupied eastern Ukraine”—also implies that locals are “silent,” “afraid,” or “against it.”

But here, people say the opposite:
they don’t consider themselves “eastern Ukraine,”
they don’t call it a “Russian occupation,”
and many openly say they waited for Russia and believe life became better after Russia arrived.

You can disagree with them. You can doubt them. But you can’t pretend these voices don’t exist.

Never rely on a single source

I’ll repeat what I believe is most important: no single source has the full picture. If someone claims they “have the whole truth,” they’re probably lying to you.

Watch different sides. Compare narratives. Listen to Kiev. Listen to Donetsk. Listen to the people living under shelling—not only those discussing the war from studios.

Then you’ll be able to form your own informed opinion.

For weeks now, the public has been flooded with headlines about “breakthroughs,” “major progress,” and “historic peace talks” on Ukraine. Meetings are announced, statements are amplified, and optimism is carefully staged. But when you strip away the theater, one hard reality remains untouched.

These negotiations are not about ending the war.
They are about managing perception.

And the core problem is brutally simple:

There is no legal way for Russia to declare the war over while Ukrainian forces remain on territory that Russian law and the Russian Constitution define as Russian territory.

The Kremlin’s Position: Objectives, Not Optics

Through Dmitry Peskov and other officials, the Kremlin has been consistent in one fundamental point: Russia is not negotiating narratives — it is pursuing stated objectives.

The Kremlin has repeatedly stated that fighting can stop only if Ukraine withdraws its forces from the Donbass and the so-called “New Russia” territories it still holds — territories Moscow claims under Russian law and the Constitution.

Key positions reiterated by Moscow include:

• Russia will assess Trump–Zelensky talks only after receiving official information from the United States.

• Vladimir Putin and Trump did not discuss any Christmas ceasefire.

• There is no interest in publicly speculating about joint management of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant or special economic zones in contested regions.

• Moscow views any end to the conflict strictly through the lens of achieving its objectives, not through improvised plans, media leaks, or rhetorical “Plan B” statements.

This is not ambiguity. It is intentional clarity.

The Donbass Distraction

Most media coverage — and many so-called peace proposals — obsess over Donbass.

That’s already a sleight of hand.

Yes, Donbass includes Donetsk and Lugansk.
But Donbass is not the full territorial issue Russia says this war is about.

Under Russia’s own legal framework, the territory it claims includes:

• Crimea

• Donetsk

• Lugansk

• Kherson

• Zaporizhzhia

So when you hear phrases like “Ukraine just needs to withdraw from Donbass,” understand what’s happening: the argument is being shrunk to something that does not match Russia’s own legal claims.

A Donbass-only withdrawal does not resolve the war under Russia’s constitutional logic. Not even close.

Zelensky’s Contradictions

On the Ukrainian side, Volodymyr Zelensky has been clear about one thing: Ukraine has agreed to nothing.

Zelensky has stated:

• There are no agreements on withdrawing Ukrainian forces from Donbass.

• Territorial issues were not resolved — or even meaningfully discussed — during talks with Trump.

• Any proposed “20-point plan” would require approval, preferably via referendum, which he called the “strongest historical signature.”

At the same time, Zelensky floated parliamentary ratification as a possible alternative — while insisting a referendum would still be required if territorial concessions were involved.

That contradiction matters.

A referendum implies territorial loss.
Parliamentary approval is political maneuvering.

Neither changes Russia’s legal reality.

Trump’s Optimism vs. Legal Reality

After meeting Zelensky, Donald Trump spoke optimistically:

• “Major progress” has been made.

• One or two issues remain unresolved.

• Sovereignty over Donbass is still open.

• Ukraine must approve any settlement via referendum or parliament.

• Europe would shoulder much of Ukraine’s security burden.

• An agreement could be reached within weeks.

Trump even acknowledged that Russia did not shell the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, a rare factual admission in Western political discourse.

But optimism does not override law.

The Wall Nobody Wants to Admit Exists

Here is the part most negotiations pretend doesn’t exist:

Under Russian law and the Russian Constitution, Crimea, Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia are considered part of Russia.

That is not a negotiating position.
That is the internal legal framework Russia claims to operate under.

Any Russian official who agrees to “return,” “trade,” or “freeze” these territories while Ukrainian forces remain would be violating Russian law. There is no constitutional mechanism for Moscow to do that — even if it wanted to.

So let’s be absolutely clear:

• Russia cannot declare the war over while Ukrainian forces remain in any territory Russia claims as its own.

• Russia cannot accept a ceasefire that leaves foreign troops on constitutionally claimed land.

• Russia cannot legally sign a peace deal that contradicts its own constitution.

Why These Talks Exist at All

So if the endpoint is so constrained, why all the meetings, statements, and hype?

Because these talks are not designed to end the war. They are designed to:

1. Create the illusion of progress

2. Manage political pressure in the U.S. and EU

3. Delay accountability for failed policies

4. Keep funding pipelines and alliances intact

5. Pre-position blame when talks collapse

Even the Kremlin openly acknowledges growing dissatisfaction inside EU countries toward leaders who continue funding Kiev — while admitting citizens have few tools to remove those leaders before elections.

That tells you exactly what this phase is about.

My Position — No Spin, No Illusions

I’ll say this as plainly as possible.

There is no scenario where Russia declares peace while Ukrainian forces remain on territory Russia legally considers its own.

There is no deal where Russia “just takes Donbass” and walks away.

There is no ceasefire-first fantasy that overrides constitutional reality.

The war ends only when Russia controls all territory that Russian law defines as Russia.

Anyone telling you peace comes before that is lying — whether intentionally or through self-delusion.

The real fear: what happens after a shock in Venezuela

Kenny’s focus wasn’t just on presidents — it was on systems: armies, armed networks, and groups that operate across borders. He warned that after any major rupture inside Venezuela, the key question becomes: who controls territory and weapons next?

He mentioned Venezuela’s “colectivos” — armed pro-government civilian groups often discussed in Venezuelan politics — and the possibility that instability could produce unpredictable power centers.

He also pointed to the reality that Colombian armed groups already operate in border regions, and that everyone locally “knows it.” If a major international action happens in Venezuela — whether invasion, blockade, covert operations, or internal collapse — these groups could exploit chaos, routes, and displaced populations.

Cúcuta: where migration becomes survival

One of the strongest parts of the conversation was about migration and pressure on border cities. Kenny said the region has already experienced massive waves of people searching for survival over the last decade — and that any new escalation could multiply those flows fast.

For Cúcuta, that doesn’t mean abstract geopolitics. It means overcrowded neighborhoods, strained services, increased informal work, crime opportunities for armed networks, and ordinary people forced into impossible choices.

“I love both nations — I only want peace”

I also spoke with an elderly woman in the street — a Colombian who said she has family in Venezuela. Her words weren’t ideological. They were human:

She said she loves both countries and doesn’t want bloodshed. She repeated that she wants peace — for Colombia, for Venezuela, and for children.

When people live close to a border that can ignite, they often stop arguing about flags and start worrying about funerals.

The other voice: sovereignty and the “imperialist logic”

Another interview segment in the subtitles reflects a sharply political viewpoint: the argument that threats of intervention represent an “imperialist logic,” an attack on Colombian sovereignty, and an attempt to punish Colombia’s current progressive government.

That speaker emphasizes something important, even if viewers disagree with the framing: Colombia is in a historically unusual political moment — and external pressure can amplify internal polarization. In other words, even words alone can worsen instability if they push the country into “choose a side” politics under threat.

So is Colombia “next”?

Based on what people told me on camera, the most common conclusion wasn’t “yes” or “no.”

It was: don’t get hypnotized by the headline — watch the consequences.

Even if Colombia never becomes a direct target, a major escalation involving Venezuela can still hit Colombia through:

• migration surges and humanitarian strain

• border criminal economies expanding

• armed groups exploiting confusion

• political destabilization inside Colombia itself

And for a city like Cúcuta, that’s not theory. That’s daily life.

What I’m doing next

I’m continuing this series from the border. If I can enter Venezuela, I’ll report from there. If I can’t, I’ll keep reporting where I am — because the border is already a frontline of consequences.

That’s the emotional framing I keep hearing in conversations connected to Venezuela’s energy sector — and it’s also the language now being echoed in U.S. political messaging.

I’m Patrick Lancaster, reporting to you from near the Colombia–Venezuela border, where I’ve been speaking with people on the ground while trying to cross into Venezuela to show what’s happening as we see it — not through third-party commentary.

Over the past months, the U.S. narrative has largely been presented as a “war on drugs” connected to Venezuela. But now, the message has shifted in a way many critics have been predicting: it’s about oil — and more.

“Not just a war on drugs” — and then the admission

In my reporting here, the key point people keep coming back to is this: for months, critics argued that the anti-drug framing was a cover for something else. And in recent days, Trump has publicly stated what many believe “everybody knew” — that this is not only about drugs.

The claim being made is blunt: the U.S. is going to “take back” oil lands and other assets, described as having been “stolen.”

That raises a core question that cuts through all politics and propaganda:

Is Venezuela “stealing” land and oil from the United States — or is Venezuela putting sovereignty first?

The 2007 nationalization: the turning point

To understand why the oil issue is so central, you have to go back to 2007, when Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez expanded the nationalization of oil industry assets and infrastructure.

According to the outline explained during my conversations here, the nationalization impacted many U.S. and foreign companies operating in Venezuela. Companies were offered arrangements structured as joint ventures with the state, with the state holding majority control — and as a result, many private operators lost control over oil fields they previously ran.

This is exactly where the debate becomes explosive, because one side calls that “theft,” while the other side calls it “a sovereign state controlling its own resources.”

And today — with tensions rising again — those old disputes are being pulled back into the center of a new geopolitical confrontation.

Waiting at the border: why I’m still in Colombia

I came to Colombia without needing a visa, and I informed Venezuela’s Ministry of International Communication ahead of time that I was coming. I was told my name would be on a list at the border and that there would be no problem.

But for now, we’re still here, waiting to cross, trying to figure out what the issue is and how to resolve it. We’ve been in contact with representatives in Caracas about the situation.

Even if I can’t cross immediately, I’m still working here on the ground in Colombia to bring you perspectives you won’t get from studio analysis.

What people on the ground told me

To understand how this is being perceived in the region, I spoke with people here in Cúcuta — including professionals and journalists.

1) A human rights lawyer: “Behind a war, there’s always business”

One of the people I spoke with was Kenny Sandino Cuellar, a lawyer and human-rights defender who also teaches at a university in Cúcuta.

His view was straightforward: behind war, there is usually business — something to protect, something to gain, or something to hand to partners. He said it may be “good to know the clear intentions,” but that it likely damages how the U.S. is viewed across South America, especially given the long history of North–South tensions.

He also emphasized that Venezuela is a rentier state — meaning its primary income comes from oil — and that many international actors aren’t trying to “save” Venezuela; they’re negotiating around money and resources. In that framing, the people in the middle — the population — are the ones who pay the price.

He expressed doubts that a direct invasion is likely right now because the consequences could be heavy — both for the region and for the U.S. itself.

2) A Colombian journalist: “An attack on sovereignty”

I also spoke with Gerly Corsa Ramírez, a social communicator and journalist in Cúcuta.

Her reaction was intense: she described the statements about intervention as extremely serious, calling them an attack on sovereignty and independence — not only for Venezuela, but for Latin America as a whole.

She pointed to the economic pressure Venezuela has faced for more than a decade and argued that threats and blockades create long-term social consequences — including mass migration. She noted that millions of Venezuelans have left the country, with Colombia receiving a very large share.

Her position was that Venezuela’s future should be decided by Venezuelans through elections and political processes — not by foreign pressure.

3) A local resident: “This is false — Venezuela is suffering already”

Another man I spoke with, Alexander, rejected the idea that Venezuela “stole” anything. He described Venezuela as already suffering a major crisis and suggested that the situation is far more complex than the slogans being used.

The uncomfortable question: were the “drug boats” really drug boats?

One more thing keeps coming up here: reports that nearly 30 boats have been destroyed by U.S. action as part of the drug-war narrative.

But people here question it: were they truly drug smugglers?
Some say: not all of them — maybe not even most.

And that matters, because once the narrative shifts from “drugs” to “oil,” it forces everyone to re-check what came before.

What happens next

My goal remains the same: to get you real voices, real locations, and real conditions — from inside Venezuela if I’m allowed in, and from the border region if I’m not.

Is nationalization “theft,” or sovereignty?
Does the U.S. have “rights” to Venezuelan oil — or does Venezuela?
Is the “war on drugs” narrative collapsing into an open resource claim?

Multiple flights, long layovers, overnight buses, border towns, scams, confusion, and uncertainty. By the time I landed in Colombia, I had already spent nearly 50 hours traveling, chasing one simple goal: to reach Venezuela and report on what is happening there as tensions with the United States escalate.

Arrival in Colombia: A Gateway Under Pressure

As our plane descended into Bogotá, local time was just before 2 p.m. Colombia felt calm on the surface. Fresh air. Busy airport. Normal life. But beneath that calm sat a region under growing pressure.

Western airlines had already canceled most flights into Venezuela following Trump’s airspace closure order. Remaining routes were either extremely expensive or required complicated connections. Some flights still existed on paper, but prices had exploded into the $5,000–$6,000 range, making them nearly impossible for independent journalists.

Colombian customs was straightforward. I told them the truth: I was only passing through, heading toward Venezuela. No problems. No questions. Stamp and go.

The real challenge would come later.

Why Venezuela — And Why Now

The reason for this journey is simple. The situation around Venezuela is rapidly deteriorating.

The U.S. president has openly threatened military action, not just against Venezuela, but also against what he describes as “drug-producing countries,” naming Venezuela, Colombia, and Mexico. He accused Colombia of producing cocaine, threatened “serious action,” and said bluntly: “He better wise up or he’ll be next.”

This is not abstract rhetoric. These words are followed by airspace closures, naval movements, sanctions, and seizures at sea. When this kind of language escalates, history shows that consequences often follow.

That’s why I wanted to be there before anything happens — not after the fact, not through press releases, but on the ground.

No Easy Way In

With flights uncertain and prohibitively expensive, the only realistic option was the long way: overland.

That meant:

• a bus ride of 14–18 hours through Colombia’s mountains;

• crossing the border on foot;

• then another 14+ hours inside Venezuela toward Caracas.

All told, just reaching Caracas would take 70–80 hours of continuous travel.

And that’s assuming nothing goes wrong.

The Road to the Border

The bus ride toward the border was brutal. Serpentine mountain roads zigzagged endlessly. People got sick. Bags were grabbed. The landscape was beautiful, but exhaustion set in quickly. Internet was unreliable. Plans changed by the hour.

By the time we reached the border town, it was clear this was not a normal crossing.

Chaos at the Border

The moment I stepped off the bus, I was surrounded.

Multiple people rushed toward me, claiming to be authorities. They said they needed to stamp my passport, help me cross, guide me to the “right office.” Something felt wrong almost immediately.

It was a scam.

Only later did a local man and his son step in, pull me aside, and explain what was happening. They helped me find the correct route, shared a taxi with me, and got me closer to the real crossing point.

Without them, things could have gone very differently.

This is the reality of border zones under pressure: confusion, opportunists, fear, and very little clarity about who is legitimate and who isn’t.

Two Attempts. Two Failures.

I attempted to cross into Venezuela twice.

From the Colombian side, there were no issues. From the Venezuelan side, there were problems both times. First, questions about invitations. Then reservations. Then silence. No clear explanations.

Filming near the border was sensitive. Cameras had to be put away. This wasn’t a place to push limits recklessly.

At one point, loud explosions echoed nearby — later explained as fireworks tied to local holiday celebrations. But in a region on edge, every sound raises questions.

Waiting, Watching, Reporting

After days on the road, I finally slept in a bed for the first time. Waiting now for responses from officials, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to understand whether entry will be possible.

If I’m allowed in, I’ll report from inside Venezuela — talking to people, showing daily life, documenting what’s really happening as pressure builds.

If I’m not allowed in, I won’t pretend otherwise.

I’ll report from Colombia, from the border, from conversations with locals, drivers, workers, and anyone living under the shadow of these threats. Honest reporting means telling you exactly where I am, what I can show, and what I can’t.

Why This Matters

It’s easy to talk about war from a studio. It’s harder to sit on a bus for 18 hours, get surrounded at a border, and still keep going.

This is what independent journalism looks like when governments close airspace, tighten borders, and control access.

And this is exactly why it matters.

The story doesn’t start with bombs.
It starts with borders closing, flights disappearing, and journalists being told to stay away.
