The first Peptides Weekly Evidence Audit looked at what happens when peptide enthusiasm outruns the evidence.

This one looks at the opposite problem: what happens when fear does the same thing?

Over the past week, two creators have independently challenged some of the most alarming peptide-related narratives circulating through mainstream media and major podcasts.

Peptalks with Mike examined Australian reporting after seven people were hospitalised with acute liver toxicity following use of products labelled as retatrutide. His criticism was not that the cases were unimportant, but that words such as “counterfeit,” “fake” and “contaminated” helped create a frightening explanation before investigators had established what actually caused the injuries.

Separately, physician Dr Brad Stanfield challenged Harvard professor David Sinclair’s claim on the Joe Rogan podcast that “sudden blindness has doubled” because of GLP-1 drugs. Stanfield argued that a genuine but very rare safety signal had been broadened into a much more definitive claim than the evidence supports.

Different stories, same underlying problem: the distance between what the evidence establishes and what the audience is encouraged to believe.

Both creators did what Peptides Weekly has repeatedly encouraged readers to do: read past the headline, separate fact from hypothesis and go back to the evidence.

So, for Evidence Audit #002, the influencers have started the audit.

The question is whether their criticisms survive scrutiny.

AUDIT ONE: SEVEN RETATRUTIDE HOSPITALISATIONS — BUT WHAT CAUSED THEM?

The Australian story is serious. Seven people in Victoria were reportedly hospitalised with acute liver toxicity after using products labelled as retatrutide, and health authorities were right to investigate and warn against unapproved products.

What caught Mike’s attention was the language surrounding the story. ABC referred prominently to a possible “contaminated batch” and described the products as counterfeit and black market. Read quickly, the obvious impression is that contaminated retatrutide had been identified as the cause.

But that had not been established.

The specialist quoted by ABC explicitly said it remained uncertain why the injuries had occurred and that contamination was one possibility. At that stage, testing linked to the hospital cases had not established contamination.

The confirmed fact was therefore narrower: seven people had suffered serious liver toxicity after using products sold as retatrutide. The cause could potentially involve contamination, inaccurate concentration, another substance, excessive exposure, manufacturing problems, the compound itself or several factors together. Those possibilities should remain possibilities until the evidence separates them.

Subsequent testing did uncover something genuinely concerning, however. In one ABC investigation, a vial labelled 10 mg retatrutide contained 19 mg, almost twice the stated amount. The same report noted that contaminant testing was still pending.

That is a significant quality-control failure, but it also demonstrates why terminology matters. A product containing almost twice its labelled quantity is not automatically a contaminated product. A vial may contain the expected compound at the wrong dose, another compound, impurities, microbial contamination, degradation products or none of the stated substance. These are different failures with different implications.

Calling all of them “fake peptides” may strengthen a headline, but it can obscure the actual risk.

AUDIT TWO: HAVE GLP-1s REALLY “DOUBLED SUDDEN BLINDNESS”?

The second case is more subtle because the alarming number itself has some basis in evidence.

On Joe Rogan’s podcast, Sinclair discussed NAION — non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy, a rare loss of blood flow to the optic nerve that can cause sudden, painless and sometimes permanent loss of vision. Sinclair said NAION was now roughly twice as prevalent “because of the GLP-1 drugs.”

Rogan immediately translated that into the much more memorable:

“Sudden blindness has doubled because of GLP-1s?”

The interesting part is that the word “twice” is not invented. The UK MHRA now recognises NAION as a very rare potential adverse effect of semaglutide, following evidence of an increased risk.

Large observational studies have also found a signal, although estimates vary considerably. A major JAMA Ophthalmology analysis of 37.1 million adults with type 2 diabetes found a small increase in relative incidence and explicitly said further research was needed to understand mechanism and causality.

Another large cohort study similarly concluded that the findings suggested a potential risk but required further confirmation.

So Stanfield is not arguing that NAION is imaginary. His criticism is about what happens when a nuanced safety signal passes through public communication.

Semaglutide becomes “GLP-1 drugs.” NAION becomes “sudden blindness.” Most importantly, association becomes causation.

That last step matters because much of the evidence is observational, while people prescribed GLP-1 drugs frequently already have conditions associated with NAION, including diabetes, obesity, hypertension and vascular disease. The original Harvard study itself concluded only that the findings suggested a potential association and that further work was required to assess causality.

RELATIVE RISK CAN SOUND VERY DIFFERENT FROM ABSOLUTE RISK

Stanfield’s other strong point is about scale.

A rare event can double and remain rare. Saying simply that a risk has “doubled” creates a very different impression from explaining the absolute number of additional cases involved.

This distinction remains central to the scientific discussion. JAMA commentary has estimated the additional annual NAION risk associated with semaglutide at only a handful of cases per 100,000 users, while emphasising that semaglutide also has well-established metabolic and cardiovascular benefits.

Even the latest JAMA Ophthalmology discussion continues to describe the semaglutide signal as a rare risk with low absolute incidence, while researchers debate coding accuracy, causality and how risk may change over time.

That is a long way from suggesting that GLP-1 users generally are suddenly going blind.

SO, DO THE TWO AUDITS ACTUALLY HOLD UP?

This is where Peptides Weekly reaches its own findings.

Janoshik Analytical, one of the most prolific and recognisable laboratories in the research-peptide market, currently charges $360 for its standard blind semaglutide, tirzepatide and retatrutide test, providing identification, quantity and peptide purity. When the peptide itself may have cost substantially less than the laboratory analysis, spending several hundred dollars to verify one vial can be difficult for an individual researcher to justify.

Yet the economics of testing are changing.

And that raises a larger question running through both parts of this investigation:

Could easier access to independent laboratory testing be one of the developments that has simultaneously helped safeguard peptide researchers and enabled this market to grow so rapidly?

From finding peptides to evaluating them

The research-peptide market has changed enormously.

Not long ago, simply finding suppliers could require significant effort. Researchers relied heavily on forums, private groups, referrals and direct relationships, while comparatively little independent information existed with which to assess one vendor against another.

Today the challenge is increasingly different. There are far more suppliers, more direct Chinese sourcing, more communities, more published COAs, more comparison platforms and considerably more publicly accessible testing data. In some markets, the problem is no longer finding a vendor but deciding which of dozens, or potentially hundreds, of apparently similar suppliers deserves further investigation.

As access expands, the value of credible information rises with it.

A typical research peptide arrives as a small vial containing lyophilised material. Its label identifies a peptide and states a quantity, while the vendor may also provide a Certificate of Analysis showing identity and high purity.

That information can be useful, particularly where a supplier publishes genuine, batch-specific reports from a credible third-party laboratory. But the researcher is nevertheless being shown evidence selected by the seller.

Independent testing changes that relationship.

If the purchaser selects the vial, submits it independently and receives the laboratory result directly, they are no longer wholly dependent on the evidence provided by the party selling the material.

That apparently simple development has become an increasingly important part of the infrastructure surrounding the modern peptide market.

Finnrick provides perhaps the clearest example.

Finnrick: from free tests to a map of the market

Finnrick is a US-based peptide-testing and market-intelligence platform that aggregates independent laboratory results and uses the accumulated evidence to compare peptides and vendors.

Its current scale illustrates just how large the testing ecosystem has become.

Finnrick reports 9,991 published peptide tests, while its vendor directory currently tracks 1,784 vendors. Retatrutide alone accounts for 3,691 tests across 256 vendors. (Finnrick)

Those numbers are striking, but their significance goes beyond scale.

A single COA tells us something about the sample submitted to the laboratory. A series of tests begins to tell us something about consistency. When dozens of samples have been tested from one supplier across different peptides and batches, patterns can begin to emerge. Repeat that process across hundreds of vendors and independent analysis starts to provide a picture of the market rather than merely a collection of isolated laboratory reports.

Finnrick has therefore evolved into something considerably broader than a testing directory. It increasingly functions as a market observatory, bringing together testing histories, vendor comparisons, ratings and pricing information within the same infrastructure.

One of the most interesting aspects of that evolution is how Finnrick accumulated so much data in the first place.

It helped pay for the evidence.

The free peptide test many researchers still do not know about

For qualifying researchers in the United States, Finnrick offers free independent testing of selected lyophilised peptides.

The process, which Finnrick has significantly tightened in recent months, begins with proof of purchase. Researchers can forward a purchase receipt or submit screenshots showing what they bought, after which qualifying samples can be sent to Finnrick’s Texas facility for commercial laboratory analysis. Finnrick states that the sample is consumed during testing and that the submitter receives a copy of the Certificate of Analysis before the result is published on the platform. There are also eligibility requirements. Since April 2026, Finnrick has required a batch ID supported by photographic evidence for free submissions. Its stated rationale is straightforward: without a batch identifier, a test cannot meaningfully be tied to a specific production run, reducing its value when comparing results over time. (Finnrick)

For the individual researcher, however, the central proposition remains unusually compelling.

A laboratory analysis that could otherwise cost hundreds of dollars can potentially be obtained without paying the core testing fee.

That is not a marginal saving. For many research peptides, the cost of the analysis may exceed the cost of the vial several times over.

More importantly, it places independently generated analytical evidence within reach of people who might otherwise never have commissioned a test at all.

To understand why that matters, it helps to understand exactly what a standard peptide test provides.

What does a standard peptide test actually include?

For semaglutide, tirzepatide and retatrutide, Janoshik’s current $360 blind test provides three central pieces of information: identification, amount and peptide purity. The customer does not even have to specify which of those three GLP-1 peptides they believe the vial contains; the analysis is designed to identify the peptide and determine its quantity and purity. Those three measurements answer some of the most fundamental questions a researcher can ask about a vial.

Identity asks whether the material analysed corresponds with the peptide it claims to be.

Quantity establishes how much peptide the laboratory measures in the vial. If a product is labelled as containing 10mg, for example, the test provides independent evidence of the amount actually detected.

Purity provides the familiar percentage reported on peptide COAs, describing peptide purity under the analytical method used.

Taken together, those measurements provide a substantial amount of independent information. Instead of simply relying on a label stating that a vial contains a particular molecule at a particular quantity, the researcher can obtain evidence about what was identified, how much was measured and what peptide purity was recorded in the submitted sample.

This is what makes Finnrick’s free-testing model so significant.

It is not merely generating another attractive-looking COA. For eligible submissions, it is potentially removing hundreds of dollars of cost from obtaining some of the most fundamental analytical information researchers want about what they purchased.

Researchers seeking a broader analytical picture can then commission additional testing according to the particular questions they want answered. Janoshik, for example, currently offers optional analyses including endotoxin testing, sterility testing, heavy-metals analysis, aggregate analysis, TFA measurement and LC-MS screening for peptide contamination. These are additional analytical layers addressing different characteristics of the sample rather than replacements for the core identity, amount and purity analysis. (JANOSHIK)

Testing can therefore be thought of as a layered process.

The standard analysis answers:

Is it the stated peptide?

How much of it did the laboratory measure?

What peptide purity was recorded?

Additional analyses can then investigate other chemical or microbiological characteristics where a researcher wants further information.

For many individuals, simply being able to access that first layer of independent evidence without spending several hundred dollars is already a major advance.

Free testing built something else too: data

There is another side to Finnrick’s model that deserves attention without diminishing the considerable value it offers researchers.

The researcher receives something valuable: an independent laboratory test that might otherwise have cost hundreds of dollars.

Finnrick receives something valuable too.

Data.

Every qualifying submission can add another peptide, vendor, batch, testing date, quantity measurement and purity result to the platform’s evidence base.

One result says relatively little about an entire market. Thousands of results can reveal considerably more.

The model therefore created a powerful exchange. Researchers gained access to analytical testing at little or no direct testing cost, while their submissions collectively helped Finnrick assemble one of the largest structured datasets in the research-peptide testing ecosystem.

Over time, this information has allowed the platform to do far more than publish COAs. It can aggregate vendor histories, compare products, identify patterns in testing performance and combine analytical evidence with market information such as pricing.

The database itself has therefore become one of Finnrick’s most important assets.

This creates an interesting exchange that users should understand.

The laboratory test may be free to the researcher, but the resulting data is not without value.

There is nothing inherently unusual about a company developing commercial services around information it has paid to collect, organise and maintain. Building testing infrastructure costs money, and Finnrick has progressively developed paid memberships and market-intelligence services alongside its publicly accessible data.

At the same time, much of the underlying evidence has been generated with the participation of researchers contributing their purchases to the testing programme.

Supporters may see this as a highly effective virtuous circle: consumers receive expensive testing free, their results strengthen the public evidence base, and commercial revenue helps sustain the infrastructure.

Critics may reasonably ask questions about how community-contributed information ultimately becomes part of a monetisable commercial dataset.

Those positions are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

Finnrick can provide substantial public value while its evolving business model remains worthy of scrutiny.

The laboratory result and the Finnrick rating are different things

Finnrick’s growth has also generated debate around its rating methodology, and here an important distinction needs to be made.

A laboratory produces analytical measurements from a submitted sample.

Finnrick produces a rating by deciding how multiple pieces of laboratory evidence should be combined and interpreted.

Those are different activities.

To rank vendors, Finnrick has to make methodological choices about what constitutes a passing sample, how much fill variation is acceptable, how heavily old and new evidence should be weighted and how vendors represented by very different numbers of tests should be compared.

Under Finnrick’s current public Purity Focus standard, for example, a classifiable sample requires at least 99.5% purity and quantity within ±35% of the vendor’s claim. Its Finnrick Standard retains the 99.5% purity requirement but tightens quantity to ±25% and also introduces batch-labelling criteria. Paid members can apply stricter standards. (Finnrick)

Finnrick also weights recent evidence more heavily and adjusts ratings for vendors with thin testing histories by pulling them towards the peer baseline for the relevant peptide. Finnrick explains that this is intended to prevent a vendor with only one fortunate or unfortunate result from appearing more certain than the evidence justifies. (Finnrick)

There is considerable sophistication in that approach, but the broader point remains important.

A Finnrick score is not something generated directly by an analytical instrument.

It is Finnrick’s interpretation of an accumulated body of evidence according to Finnrick’s methodology.

That does not make the rating worthless. Quite the opposite: a well-designed summary can make thousands of individual tests far easier to navigate.

But researchers should understand the distinction.

The laboratory report is the underlying analytical evidence.

The rating is an interpretation of that evidence.

For anyone using the platform seriously, looking beneath the headline rating remains important.

The practical trade-off: free testing can require patience

The appeal of having a test worth hundreds of dollars performed free is obvious.

There is, however, another cost that researchers should factor into their expectations:

time.

Peptides Weekly has first-hand experience of this through a group-testing exercise initiated in April 2026, where results took considerably longer to emerge than participants originally anticipated.

That experience should not be taken to mean Finnrick’s free programme does not work. Rather, it illustrates one of the practical differences between participating in a free community-testing programme and commissioning a commercial laboratory directly.

Finnrick must receive samples, assess eligibility, process submissions, coordinate laboratory analysis and incorporate the resulting information into a testing operation that now encompasses nearly 10,000 published results.

For many researchers, a longer wait may be an entirely reasonable trade-off.

If the alternative is not testing at all because a $360 laboratory fee seems disproportionate, waiting longer for independently generated evidence can still represent significant value. Someone participating principally to contribute another independently tested batch to the wider public evidence base may likewise have little need for an immediate result.

A researcher who needs an analysis quickly may make a different calculation.

Janoshik, for comparison, currently states an average turnaround time of seven business days for its $360 common GLP-1 blind test once the sample is within its commercial testing process, and it also offers expedited testing for an additional fee. (JANOSHIK)

Free and paid testing therefore need not be viewed as competing versions of precisely the same service.

They serve different priorities.

Direct paid testing can provide greater control over timing and the analytical package commissioned. Finnrick’s model dramatically reduces the financial barrier.

The important thing is knowing that trade-off before submitting a vial.

Testing has become part of the buying infrastructure

The larger significance of Finnrick is not simply that it can save an individual researcher money.

It is that independent testing is increasingly becoming embedded in the infrastructure through which people navigate the research-peptide market.

A researcher today may discover a supplier, examine independent testing histories, compare pricing with competitors, inspect previous batch-specific results, explore community discussion and then potentially submit their own purchase for analysis.

That is a substantially different informational environment from the one early research-peptide participants faced.

Every market needs mechanisms for establishing trust. In conventional regulated pharmaceutical supply chains, much of that trust infrastructure is institutional, involving formal manufacturing standards, licensing, regulatory oversight and quality-control requirements.

The research-peptide market operates differently.

As it has expanded, an alternative layer of private trust infrastructure has developed around it: independent laboratories, public COAs, crowdsourced testing, batch tracking, vendor databases, price-comparison platforms and increasingly sophisticated rating systems.

None of these mechanisms recreates pharmaceutical regulation.

But collectively, they give researchers substantially more information with which to interrogate the market.

And that may have been one of the most important changes in its evolution.

Has independent testing made the market safer to navigate?

There is a straightforward risk-reduction argument for independent testing.

Vendors naturally possess more information about their products and supply chains than customers do. Independent analysis can narrow that information imbalance by allowing researchers to challenge some of the most fundamental claims attached to a sample.

Is the submitted material the stated peptide?

How much did the laboratory measure?

What purity did it record?

Repeated testing adds another layer because results can be examined collectively rather than in isolation.

An unexpected result may represent one problematic sample or batch.

Repeated problems can begin to reveal a pattern.

Conversely, repeated independent results across different batches can provide stronger evidence of consistency than a single COA viewed alone.

Testing therefore creates a form of decentralised market surveillance.

It cannot remove every source of uncertainty, but it can turn some uncertainty into measurable evidence.

That is a significant safeguard.

Yet the same development raises another, more provocative question.

Did making peptides easier to investigate also help the market proliferate?

The extraordinary growth of the research-peptide world is usually explained through factors such as cheaper manufacturing, direct Chinese sourcing, social media, GLP-1 demand, online communities and the rapid proliferation of vendors.

All of those factors matter.

But markets do not expand simply because supply increases.

People also need to become sufficiently confident to participate.

Consider two newcomers.

The first discovers an unfamiliar website selling an unfamiliar peptide. The company claims high purity, but the purchaser has little independent information about the vendor and no realistic way of verifying the vial without spending substantially more than the product itself cost.

Now consider the informational environment available today.

A researcher may be able to search that vendor in a testing database, examine historical laboratory results, compare prices with competitors, identify batch information and see whether other purchasers have independently submitted samples.

If they are in the United States, they may also be able to submit their own eligible vial to Finnrick for free testing.

The material itself may not have changed.

The information surrounding the transaction has.

And information affects participation.

Independent testing can give experienced researchers stronger tools with which to assess uncertainty, while simultaneously making an unfamiliar market feel more navigable to newcomers.

The same infrastructure can therefore plausibly perform two functions at once:

help existing researchers make better-informed decisions, while lowering the informational barrier to entry for new researchers.

That does not mean Finnrick or independent laboratory testing caused the proliferation of research-peptide use. Social media, international manufacturing, pricing, GLP-1 interest, online communities and easier sourcing all form part of a much bigger picture.

But testing may have been one of the developments that helped transform a highly opaque niche into a market that ordinary researchers increasingly feel capable of interrogating.

That possibility deserves considerably more attention.

Perhaps Finnrick’s biggest achievement is normalising verification

Finnrick’s headline numbers are impressive, but its most important contribution may ultimately be cultural rather than statistical.

It has helped normalise a simple proposition:

ordinary researchers can independently test what sellers send them.

That changes the balance of information.

Researchers are no longer restricted to choosing whether to believe a vendor’s marketing or supplied COAs. They can inspect independent evidence generated by other purchasers and, in qualifying circumstances, contribute their own sample to the evidence base.

Finnrick is not beyond criticism. Its ratings depend on methodological choices that researchers should understand. Its enormous dataset has commercial value. Its free-testing programme can also involve significantly longer waits than researchers may encounter when commissioning laboratory analysis directly.

None of those considerations removes the central value of increasing access to independent analysis.

That is why Finnrick matters.

It now sits at the intersection of testing, data, comparison and trust.

And its evolution tells us something much bigger about the research-peptide market itself.

The market did not simply become easier to buy from.

It became easier to investigate.

That may have helped safeguard people already participating in it.

It may also have created enough confidence for participation to broaden beyond early adopters.

Those two effects are not contradictory.

They may be two sides of the same development.

Laboratory analysis provides information about the specific sample submitted and the parameters actually tested. A result from one vial should not automatically be extrapolated to every vial, batch or future product from the same supplier.

Identity, quantity and purity analysis also answers different questions from sterility, bacterial endotoxin, heavy-metal, residual-solvent and other microbiological or contaminant testing. Researchers should therefore understand exactly what was analysed before drawing conclusions from any Certificate of Analysis.

Peptides Weekly also distinguishes between independently generated laboratory evidence and any rating, ranking or interpretation subsequently applied to that evidence by a third-party platform. Platform scores should be considered alongside the underlying laboratory results and the methodology used to produce them.

Since then, that question has become considerably harder, because the peptide market is no longer simply being described: it is increasingly being defined by pharmaceutical companies protecting investigational drugs, regulators deciding where research ends and medicine begins, platforms determining which creators can remain visible, mainstream media choosing whether products are described as “fake”, “counterfeit” or “illegal”, and a rapidly maturing peptide community attempting to answer all of them with its own evidence.

Together, they point towards one overarching story: the first phase of the peptide boom was largely about access; the phase now emerging is about who gets to define the market, whose claims withstand scrutiny and who ultimately earns trust.

Peptide Personalities: when influence becomes part of the supply chain

One of the most striking developments has been the disappearance of two prominent American peptide creators from YouTube.

Trevor Bachmeyer had built a channel approaching 400,000 subscribers, tens of millions of views and around 1,700 videos, while also founding Elite Biogenix. Josh Holyfield, another significant peptide educator with commercial connections to the research-peptide market, subsequently lost his YouTube presence too.

There is no public evidence establishing that Eli Lilly caused either removal, and the proximity of these events to Lilly’s latest legal offensive should not be confused with evidence of causation. What the timing does highlight, however, is the increasingly blurred relationship between peptide education, audience-building and commerce.

The modern peptide ecosystem can often look something like:

CONTENT → TRUST → COMMUNITY → VENDOR → TRANSACTION

In some cases, the same creator may occupy several positions within that chain, which makes the quality of the underlying information — and transparency around commercial relationships — considerably more important.

That is one reason Peptides Weekly launched its first Evidence Audit. Across dementia-related videos from Trevor Bachmeyer, Dr Dean Jones DC and Dr Ashley Froese, we identified 156 grouped evidence-checkable claims and compared them against more than 300 papers, reviews, guidelines and trials.

The differences were substantial. Ashley Froese was the most evidence-aligned overall; Dean Jones generally occupied a more scientifically grounded but sometimes overstated middle ground; and Bachmeyer showed the greatest gap between the confidence attached to some peptide-specific claims and the available human evidence.

There is an important distinction here. Platform enforcement and evidential scrutiny are not the same thing, but both affect credibility. A creator can be removed without the public ever learning precisely why, while an independent review can separately identify weaknesses in the evidence supporting their claims.

Supply Chain: Lilly takes on a market that already knows how to make Reta

Retatrutide has become perhaps the clearest example of the collision between pharmaceutical innovation and the peptide grey market.

Eli Lilly invented the molecule, continues to fund the enormous clinical-development programme required to establish its safety and efficacy, and still cannot commercially sell an approved retatrutide product. Meanwhile, versions of the same molecule have been available through the grey market for years.

That contradiction now sits at the centre of a much larger enforcement battle.

On 12 August, Lilly sued six US businesses over alleged unlawful retatrutide sales. It has also said that it referred more than 200 individuals and entities to regulators, law enforcement and other authorities, while reporting more than 14,000 websites, advertisements, social posts and listings across more than 100 countries.

The most consequential part of Lilly’s strategy may not be the pursuit of individual vendors at all. The company has also publicly called on social-media platforms, e-commerce businesses, payment processors, card companies and shipping providers to intervene, potentially shifting enforcement from the storefronts of the grey market towards the infrastructure on which those storefronts depend.

Closing one vendor is comparatively straightforward. Creating friction across advertising, payments, communications and shipping is a much broader proposition.

Retatrutide nevertheless illustrates why such markets are difficult to contain once scientific knowledge has escaped the boundaries of the originating company. Lilly published the molecule, patent literature disclosed it and, by July 2023, Hangzhou Xinhai Pharmaceutical Technology had filed a Chinese patent titled Preparation method of Retatrutide.

As our investigation argued:

Knowledge of the molecule cannot now be undisclosed.

If enforcement continues moving upstream from individual vendors towards the infrastructure supporting them, the grey market may contract in some places without disappearing altogether. Parts of it could instead become less visible, more international and more reliant on relationships further upstream in the manufacturing chain.

Fake, counterfeit, illegal — or something more complicated?

Retatrutide has also become a battleground over language.

Terms such as fake, counterfeit, illegal, unapproved, unauthorised and unverified frequently appear together in mainstream coverage, even though they describe very different things.

A product can contain the expected molecule while still leaving major unanswered questions about quantity, purity, sterility, manufacturing standards, provenance or intended use. Conversely, a vial or pen labelled as retatrutide might contain no retatrutide at all. Those are fundamentally different evidential situations and should not automatically receive the same label.

This became particularly interesting when Peptides Weekly revisited mainstream reporting about Alluvi. Channel 4 had described Alluvi-branded retatrutide as “fake”, whereas The Observer subsequently reported that University College London mass-spectrometry testing identified the retatrutide peptide sequence in the tested liquid.

That finding did not validate Alluvi, establish the accuracy of the stated dose, demonstrate sterility or purity, confirm safety or legality, validate its manufacturing process, or tell us anything certain about other Alluvi batches. What it did demonstrate was the importance of separating different analytical questions.

Researchers increasingly need to understand the distinction between identity, which asks whether the expected molecule is present; purity, which assesses how much of the detected material corresponds to the intended compound; quantity, which asks how much target compound is actually present; and sterility, which is an entirely separate question concerning microbial contamination.

A journalist writing FAKE does not by itself establish that the molecule is absent, just as a vendor writing 99% PURE does not establish pharmaceutical quality. Likewise, displaying an RUO disclaimer does not automatically determine how a product is being presented, marketed or ultimately classified by a regulator.

The wider lesson is straightforward: the label is not the evidence, and greater scrutiny should produce greater precision rather than looser terminology.

Regulatory Watch: where does research end and medicine begin?

This may ultimately prove to be the most important question of all.

Regulators such as the FDA and MHRA increasingly examine not simply the words placed beside a product but the wider context in which it is presented. A March 2026 FDA warning letter to Gram Peptides provided a useful example: “Research Use Only” and “not for human consumption” language did not override other material that the agency believed demonstrated an intended human-drug use.

The UK MHRA similarly takes a contextual approach to borderline products, which means RUO remains meaningful for genuine research supply but does not operate as a magic phrase capable of converting any surrounding commercial model into laboratory research.

That distinction prompted our From Grey Area to Legal Category investigation.

Peptides are not “the new supplements”. Many are pharmacologically active, injectable and unsuitable for anything resembling ordinary supplement regulation. The history of the supplement market nevertheless raises a useful question about what happens when consumer behaviour grows faster than the regulatory categories originally designed to govern it.

The future may therefore be less about creating one sweeping new category called “peptides” and more about developing a differentiated regulatory landscape in which some compounds become approved medicines, some have defined compounding routes, others remain investigational, and many continue to exist legitimately as laboratory reagents.

Whether additional pathways eventually emerge between those categories remains an open question, but the growing market makes the question increasingly difficult to ignore.

Vendor Files: pressure is rising, yet the market keeps expanding

Here lies perhaps the biggest paradox of the current peptide boom.

The market appears to be becoming harder to operate in while simultaneously becoming easier to participate in.

When I began systematically tracking UK research-peptide businesses earlier this year, I identified roughly 25 vendors. Within approximately three months, that number had grown to around 75, while one comparison platform claims to track considerably more UK suppliers and larger international platforms catalogue hundreds or even thousands of vendors and product listings.

At the same time, an increasingly sophisticated industry is forming around the industry itself. Independent testing laboratories, price-per-milligram comparison tools, vendor histories, stock trackers, community reviews and corporate-record searches are making the market easier for researchers to interrogate than it was even a year ago.

Yet the churn is equally obvious. Businesses disappear, product listings are withdrawn, payment routes fail, websites close and regulatory pressure increases, only for new suppliers and new routes to emerge.

Our From Peptide Enthusiast to Entrepreneur investigation examined this tension and asked what responsible and sustainable peptide entrepreneurship actually looks like inside such a volatile environment. The conclusion was not that creating a peptide business is especially difficult; in fact, the low visible barriers to entry are part of the reason so many are appearing.

The harder challenge is building one capable of surviving increasing scrutiny while maintaining credible sourcing, quality control, regulatory literacy, payment infrastructure and customer trust.

Starting a peptide business may look easy. Building one that lasts is another matter entirely.

Trust & Accountability: credibility is tested when something goes wrong

No vendor, laboratory, journalist or creator should be evaluated on the assumption that perfection is possible. A much more useful measure is what happens when mistakes or quality concerns emerge.

Walker Chemicals provides one recent case study. Following earlier quality failures, WKC replaced affected stock and subsequently published additional independent Janoshik testing on replacement batches.

Those new results do not erase the earlier problems, nor should they. They do, however, provide additional information about how a supplier responds when its quality controls are challenged.

That matters because accountability itself is evidence. Does the business investigate? Does it communicate? Does it replace questionable material? Does it commission genuinely independent testing and publish the results rather than simply reassure customers?

As the peptide market matures, credibility is increasingly likely to depend less on claims of flawless quality and more on whether businesses can demonstrate transparency, verification and accountability when something goes wrong.

So what happens next?

The first phase of the peptide boom was largely about access: who could obtain these compounds, from where, at what price and with how much information.

The phase now emerging is increasingly about credibility: which vendors can substantiate what they sell, which creators can support what they claim, which media descriptions accurately reflect the evidence, and which regulatory distinctions remain workable as the market evolves.

What survives beyond that phase will ultimately depend on trust.

Pharmaceutical companies will continue litigating, regulators will intervene, platforms will change their rules, vendors will appear and disappear, payment routes will tighten, supply chains will adapt and researchers will become more sophisticated in how they assess all of it. The grey market may therefore become smaller in some respects while simultaneously becoming more private, international and technically organised in others.

That is why the most interesting question is no longer simply whether the peptide grey market survives increasing scrutiny.

It is what the market looks like after it adapts to it — and who researchers will still believe when the dust settles.

The answer is not that the risks are imaginary. Identity, purity, quantity, sterility, manufacturing standards, intended use and regulatory compliance matter enormously, and there are vendors and products in this market that deserve serious scrutiny.

The problem is that “fake”, “counterfeit”, “illegal”, “unapproved”, “unverified” and “black market” are too often allowed to blur into one another, leaving readers with the impression of a single underground trade populated by rogue sellers and poorly informed consumers buying unknowable substances.

What I have been observing looks considerably more complicated.

A market that keeps regenerating

Back in March, Anglo Peptides, XL Peptides and Peptiology were among the more visible UK retatrutide sellers I was tracking.

Today, XL no longer appears to list Reta, while Anglo’s own live catalogue no longer clearly shows it either. Yet retatrutide has hardly disappeared. Newer searches have surfaced Hati Peptides, BuyReta EU, Peptide Products, Alphamino, BioTideUK, Pegasus Peptides, BluePeak and Peptiology, among others, several of which were barely on my radar a few months ago.

More broadly, my own list of identifiable UK research-peptide vendors has grown from roughly 25 in April to around 75 today, while one emerging peptide price-comparison platform claims to have identified as many as 275 UK suppliers.

That larger number needs interrogating. Duplicate brands, inactive websites, reseller relationships and different definitions of “supplier” could all inflate a market count. But even allowing for that, the direction is difficult to miss.

Individual sellers disappear, compounds are withdrawn and businesses pivot, while new suppliers continually take their place.

An industry is also emerging around the industry itself. Peptide price-comparison and verification platforms are beginning to track thousands of listings, price-per-milligram, stock status, testing records and vendor histories across a market that was remarkably difficult to measure only a short time ago.

Meanwhile, pressure is intensifying. Eli Lilly has filed six US lawsuits concerning alleged unlawful retatrutide sales, says it has referred more than 200 individuals and entities to regulators or law enforcement, and has publicly called on payment processors, online platforms and shipping companies to intervene.

So access is becoming more decentralised just as attempts to constrain it become more sophisticated.

But something else has changed too.

The grey market has become more sophisticated

Much mainstream reporting still seems to rest on an old information hierarchy: pharmaceutical companies and regulators possess the expertise, journalists communicate it, while consumers and independent researchers are largely portrayed as vulnerable recipients of misinformation.

The modern peptide community increasingly does not work like that.

Information moves horizontally and extraordinarily quickly. Researchers compare suppliers, circulate analytical results, identify failed batches, scrutinise COAs, trace businesses through corporate records, question fill quantity and collectively commission independent testing. A vendor whose documentation looks impressive can find it being dissected across several online communities within hours.

An entire verification infrastructure has developed alongside the market.

Analytical laboratories and testing services such as Janoshik Analytical, Freedom Diagnostics and PeptideVerify have made identity, purity and quantity testing accessible far beyond pharmaceutical companies and conventional institutions. Results can be verified, shared, compared against other batches and challenged publicly.

None of that somehow makes the grey market safe. Testing remains selective; a successful result applies to the sample analysed, not everything bearing the same label. Community consensus can be wrong, while sterility and upstream manufacturing provenance remain significant blind spots.

But the information asymmetry has changed dramatically.

A sophisticated grey-market participant may now be examining LC-MS identity results, interrogating HPLC purity, asking whether a certificate relates to a finished vial or an upstream API sample, checking fill quantity, verifying a laboratory report, searching Companies House and comparing multiple tests across the same supplier.

That reality sits awkwardly alongside portrayals in which participants are treated almost as passive victims who cannot possibly understand the market in which they are participating.

There is something increasingly infantilising about that framing.

The market deserves scrutiny.

So do the assumptions being made about the people inside it.

Alluvi: heavy scrutiny, but it hasn’t simply disappeared

Yesterday’s investigation used Alluvi, the controversial UK-facing peptide brand investigated by the MHRA, and mainstream media outlets including Channel 4, The Observer, The Guardian and the BBC. to illustrate why terminology matters.

Peptides Weekly is not endorsing Alluvi, its products or its business model. Serious questions have been raised around its marketing, intended use, regulatory position and the wider operation associated with the brand.

What makes it relevant here is its persistence.

Despite intense adverse coverage and reported enforcement activity surrounding unlicensed weight-loss products, the Alluvi name remains highly visible online and its current claimed official site presents an increasingly elaborate research proposition rather than the picture of a business quietly disappearing.

The key finding from yesterday remains narrower. When The Observer sent an Alluvi-branded retatrutide pen to University College London for mass-spectrometry analysis, the laboratory identified the retatrutide peptide sequence in the sample tested. That did not establish dose accuracy, sterility, safety, manufacturing quality, legality or the quality of any other Alluvi product. It simply demonstrated why “fake”, “counterfeit”, “unauthorised” and “unapproved” are not interchangeable terms.

Alluvi remains controversial, and many questions surrounding the business deserve further investigation.

But its continued visibility raises a much broader question:

When scrutiny intensifies, does the peptide market actually disappear — or does it adapt?

A tumultuous week for the peptide world

It has been a tumultuous few days for research peptides.

On 12 August, Eli Lilly dramatically escalated its campaign against independently supplied retatrutide by suing six US businesses — Aesthetic Envy Cosmetic Centers, Astra LLC, Legendary Peptides, Striker Pharmacy, Texas Peptides and Lone Star Peptide Co. — accusing them of illegally selling its still-investigational obesity drug.

The lawsuits are only one part of a much wider campaign. Lilly says it has referred more than 200 individuals and organisations to regulators, law enforcement and other authorities, while also urging social-media platforms, payment processors, credit-card companies and shipping providers to take stronger action.

The repercussions appear to be travelling far beyond those six defendants.

In Britain, Peptides Weekly is already seeing familiar suppliers alter their catalogues, with research retatrutide disappearing from some stores where we previously observed it. In Australia, regulators have stepped up enforcement against unapproved peptide products, including the seizure this week of more than A$120,000 worth of peptides and anabolic steroids from two properties allegedly linked to a social-media influencer.

And then there are the influencers themselves.

Within days of Lilly’s lawsuits, two major American peptide creators disappeared from YouTube: Trevor Bachmeyer and Josh Holyfield.

Bachmeyer’s removal was particularly significant. As of 11 August his channel had approximately 398,000 subscribers, 38.2 million views and around 1,700 videos. His reach extended far beyond YouTube: his Instagram following is now approaching two million.

But Bachmeyer isn’t simply a content creator. His own website and professional profile identify him as founder and CEO of EliteBiogenix, which sells research peptides.

Holyfield similarly occupies more than one part of the ecosystem. Alongside his large peptide-focused educational presence, his current business website places ZestyRat Research, a research-peptide vendor, within the wider Josh Holyfield Enterprise alongside Iron Forge, Powerhouse, Anvil Nutrition and Apex Medical.

Does that combination of commercial proximity to peptide vendors and enormous influence over peptide consumers help explain why these creators attracted YouTube’s attention?

It is certainly a reasonable question.

It is not, however, something we can presently prove. Holyfield says YouTube removed his channel without identifying a specific policy violation, while Bachmeyer’s channel was reportedly removed for breaching Community Guidelines. There is currently no public evidence establishing that Lilly requested either removal or that the commercial links were the reason YouTube acted.

Still, the timing is difficult to ignore.

What we are watching is pressure spreading across an ecosystem that includes vendors, pharmacies, med spas, payment processors, shipping providers, social platforms and influential creators — some of whom also have direct commercial links to peptide businesses.

More regulatory action is almost certainly coming, and so too will more mainstream reporting about “fake”, “counterfeit”, “illegal” and “black market” peptides.

Some of those descriptions will be justified.

Others deserve far closer examination.

Because, strangely enough, while pressure on the industry intensifies, the underlying market shows remarkably little sign of disappearing.

The demand does not appear to be abating

Peptides Weekly is simultaneously watching the emergence of a new layer of market infrastructure: peptide price-comparison websites and enormous vendor directories that increasingly resemble peptide supermarkets.

One UK platform now claims to compare more than 100 suppliers, including 89 suppliers offering retatrutide alone. Other services aggregate prices, track availability, incorporate testing information and alert users when prices change.

This tells us something important about where the market may be heading.

At precisely the moment pharmaceutical companies, regulators and online platforms are applying greater pressure, the infrastructure beneath the grey market is becoming more organised. There are more vendors, more comparison tools, greater price transparency and increasingly sophisticated ways of navigating a market that only recently required considerable effort to discover.

Pressure from above is intensifying while the market below continues to evolve.

It is the battle over how the public is being taught to understand the peptide market.

When “fake” doesn’t necessarily mean fake

Mainstream reporting increasingly warns consumers about “fake”, “counterfeit” and “illegal” weight-loss drugs, and some of those warnings are plainly justified. Products can be mislabelled, contaminated, incorrectly dosed or supplied outside regulated pharmaceutical systems.

The problem is that these words describe different things.

A product can be unauthorised without being chemically fake. It can contain exactly the peptide stated on its label while still being incorrectly dosed, impure, non-sterile or otherwise unsuitable for human use. Conversely, something marketed as retatrutide might contain no retatrutide whatsoever.

Those distinctions determine what the evidence actually proves — and what an ordinary reader or viewer is entitled to infer from a phrase such as “fake retatrutide”.

Channel 4 provides an important case study.

For our predominantly American readership, Channel 4 is one of Britain’s major national broadcasters. In November 2025, Channel 4 News investigated Alluvi, a prominent UK grey-market brand associated with retatrutide and other weight-loss products.

Its investigation raised serious questions about Alluvi’s operation, resellers, social-media ecosystem and attempts to have critics removed from TikTok. Those are entirely legitimate subjects for investigation.

But the film opened with an extraordinarily definitive statement:

“These are fake weight loss jabs.”

Alluvi’s products were repeatedly characterised as “fake retatrutide” and “knockoffs”, while the international supply chain was described in terms of overseas laboratories where “fake compounds are cooked up”.

The obvious question is: what exactly had been established as fake?

A vial marked RETATRUTIDE could contain nothing resembling retatrutide. It could contain retatrutide at the wrong concentration, or alongside unwanted impurities. It might contain the expected molecule while presenting separate problems involving sterility, formulation or manufacturing standards.

These are radically different findings.

There is also an important distinction between fake Mounjaro and fake retatrutide. Mounjaro is an approved Eli Lilly medicine containing tirzepatide, so a product masquerading as genuine branded Mounjaro can straightforwardly counterfeit an existing commercial medicine.

Retatrutide is different. As of August 2026 it remains an investigational drug in Phase 3 development. Lilly invented the molecule, but there is no approved commercial Lilly retatrutide medicine sitting on pharmacy shelves for another manufacturer simply to copy.

A seller could still falsely claim Lilly origin, regulatory approval or clinical equivalence. But describing an independently manufactured product as “counterfeit retatrutide” requires considerably more care.

Then something happened that made the distinction impossible to ignore.

Somebody actually tested the Alluvi product.

The Observer tested it — and found retatrutide

In June, The Observer published another highly critical investigation under the headline:

“Black market peptides turn fitness fanatics into chemical guinea pigs.”

The article spoke of a “black market”, an “illicit industry”, “counterfeit pens” and an “unprecedented, uncontrolled national chemical experiment”.

But The Observer also did something enormously valuable: it obtained Alluvi-branded retatrutide pens and submitted them to a specialist mass-spectrometry laboratory at University College London.

The newspaper described the result as “startling”.

According to its report, the tested liquid contained the retatrutide peptide sequence.

That finding must be interpreted narrowly. It does not validate Alluvi, its operation, other batches or its wider supply chain, and Peptides Weekly is not endorsing the business. Nor does molecular identity establish labelled quantity, purity, sterility, endotoxin levels, stability or suitability for injection.

But within those limits, the result matters enormously.

A product represented as retatrutide was independently tested by UCL and, according to The Observer, retatrutide was actually found.

If “fake retatrutide” means there isn’t actually retatrutide inside, the result points in precisely the opposite direction for that sample.

If “fake” is instead supposed to mean independently manufactured, unauthorised, not made by Lilly, falsely presented or supplied outside the authorised pharmaceutical system, then journalists need to say which proposition they mean.

That doesn’t vindicate the product.

It complicates the reporting.

Indeed, The Observer’s own language demonstrates the difficulty. It characterises the pens as counterfeit before reporting the identification of what it itself calls bona fide retatrutide, and later acknowledges that operators have established supply chains capable of obtaining “authentic research-grade peptide powders”.

The simple narrative — Lilly makes real retatrutide while China makes fake retatrutide — no longer explains what the evidence is showing.

Independently synthesised does not mean approved, pharmaceutically equivalent or safe.

But independently manufactured and chemically fake are not synonyms.

“Black market” is doing a lot of work

The same problem applies to The Observer’s headline description of “black market peptides”.

There unquestionably is unlawful activity within medicines markets, and an RUO label cannot magically legitimise conduct if a product is actually being marketed and supplied as a human medicine.

But genuine Research Use Only supply also exists. Universities, biotechnology companies and laboratories routinely purchase substances that are neither approved medicines nor intended for human consumption.

The legal and regulatory questions therefore depend on what is being supplied, how it is presented, what claims are made, its intended purpose and the jurisdiction involved.

That is why Peptides Weekly generally uses grey market unless the evidence establishes something more specific. It isn’t about sanitising the industry; it is about distinguishing different types of activity rather than collapsing everything into one emotionally powerful label.

One scientific claim deserves particular scrutiny

The Observer article also contains a striking explanation of peptide purity, asserting that because synthetic peptides are manufactured using bacterial proteins, a product advertised at 99% purity leaves 1% of “bacterial protein toxicity”.

As written, that is highly misleading.

A 99% analytical purity result does not mean the remaining 1% is bacterial protein. Depending on the manufacturing process and analytical method, remaining material can include truncated sequences, synthesis-related by-products, degradation or oxidation products and other impurities.

More fundamentally, identity, purity, quantity and sterility are different analytical questions.

An identity test can establish that a particular molecule is present without proving how much is present. A high HPLC purity result does not establish sterility. Neither tells us whether a COA actually corresponds to the vial sitting in someone’s hand.

Those distinctions matter enormously in the research-peptide market, which is precisely why journalists covering it should understand them.

Why isn’t testing at the centre of more reporting?

The UCL result leads to what may be the simplest question in this entire article.

If a journalist’s central allegation is that a physical product is fake, why isn’t independent testing routinely central to establishing that claim?

Obtain representative samples, document where they came from, test them independently and report what the results actually establish.

If there is no retatrutide, expose it.

If retatrutide is present but testing reveals serious quality problems, expose those.

And if the molecule stated on the label is identified, report that too.

What journalism should avoid is drifting from “this is not Lilly’s investigational pharmaceutical product” into “this is not retatrutide” without evidence supporting that second proposition.

They aren’t the same statement.

“Illegal” demands the same precision

The word illegal has a different but related problem.

In the United States, the current regulatory position on consumer retatrutide sales is particularly aggressive. The FDA says retatrutide cannot lawfully be used in compounding, and Lilly’s six new lawsuits accuse named businesses of illegally selling the investigational drug.

Our concern is therefore not that unlawful activity doesn’t exist. Clearly it does.

The question is: what exactly is alleged to be illegal?

Possessing a substance? Importing it? Advertising it? Supplying it as a medicine? A particular vendor’s conduct? And under which jurisdiction?

Those distinctions become especially important when reporting moves from discussing an industry in general terms to making allegations about identifiable individuals and businesses.

Accuracy requires more than an alarming adjective. It requires explaining what conduct is alleged, under which law, against whom and on what evidence.

The grey market doesn’t get a free pass

None of this means Peptides Weekly believes people should simply trust peptide vendors instead.

A COA can be fabricated. A genuine report can belong to another batch. High HPLC purity does not establish sterility, identity testing does not establish quantity, and professional packaging proves remarkably little.

Some products really will be fake.

That is exactly why indiscriminate use of the word weakens rather than strengthens scrutiny.

The same evidential principle should apply whoever is speaking. If a vendor says, “This is retatrutide,” ask what evidence supports it. If a journalist says, “This is fake retatrutide,” ask exactly the same question.

Lilly deserves scrutiny too. It is unquestionably one of the world’s most authoritative sources on a molecule it invented, yet it is simultaneously a company with enormous commercial and intellectual-property interests in what happens to the independent retatrutide market.

Both facts matter.

So do the interests of vendors, influencers, testing laboratories and consumers. And Peptides Weekly itself operates within the ecosystem it reports on.

Scepticism should run in every direction.

Can technically defensible reporting still mislead?

This may ultimately be the more important issue.

The peptide grey market sits at the intersection of pharmaceutical regulation, chemistry, intellectual property, international manufacturing, social-media commerce, consumer demand and enormous commercial interests. Yet much mainstream coverage asks audiences to understand it through five emotionally powerful words:

Fake. Counterfeit. Illegal. Illicit. Black market.

Sometimes those descriptions will be entirely justified. Sometimes they capture only part of the story.

An article does not need to fabricate a fact to leave readers with a distorted picture. Different categories can be collapsed together, crucial context omitted and interested sources insufficiently interrogated.

The Observer’s own laboratory testing demonstrates what better evidence-led reporting can accomplish. Its investigation remained fiercely critical of the peptide market, yet when UCL testing produced a result that complicated the simple “fake retatrutide” narrative, the newspaper reported it.

That is exactly what investigation should do: discover which story the evidence supports rather than choosing the most compelling label first and working backwards.

Which brings us back to Vendor Files.

When I first ventured into the grey market earlier this year, I began by examining the UK suppliers appearing increasingly prominently online. Some I bought from; others I scrutinised closely. Our first UK Vendor Dashboard went live in April.

Only a few months later, the landscape already looks remarkably different.

At least one supplier I followed has stopped selling compounds altogether. Others that previously offered research retatrutide no longer appear to list it, while elsewhere retatrutide remains readily available and new vendors continue to emerge.

Against a backdrop of Lilly’s lawsuits, increasing regulatory scrutiny, disappearing YouTube channels and the simultaneous emergence of comparison platforms tracking scores of retatrutide sellers, those changes deserve documenting.

Don’t rely on the label. Examine the evidence behind it.

A vendor writing 99% PURE does not establish pharmaceutical quality. A journalist writing FAKE does not prove the molecule is absent. And RESEARCH USE ONLY does not, by itself, tell us everything about how a product is actually being marketed.

So when the next headline warns us about “fake”, “illegal” or “black-market” peptides, perhaps we should ask three questions:

What exactly is fake? What exactly is alleged to be illegal? And whose story is the mainstream media telling?

It can be found through peptide vendors, online marketplaces, social media and international suppliers, with much of the underlying manufacturing capability concentrated in China’s enormous peptide industry. This has created an extraordinary situation in which an experimental drug candidate has become internationally accessible long before the pharmaceutical company that invented it has been permitted to bring an approved version to market.

Now Eli Lilly appears determined to fight back.

This week, Lilly filed six lawsuits against US businesses that it accuses of illegally selling retatrutide, but what makes this latest action particularly interesting is the range of businesses being targeted. Lilly isn’t simply pursuing obscure peptide websites operating on the fringes of the internet; its defendants include a compounding pharmacy and medical or aesthetic businesses alongside dedicated peptide vendors.

The six defendants are:

• Aesthetic Envy Cosmetic Centers

• Astra Peptides

• Legendary Peptides

• Striker Pharmacy

• Texas Peptides

• Lone Star Peptide

Lilly alleges that they sold unapproved retatrutide to consumers, including products described as being for “research use only” which, according to Lilly, were actually intended for human use.

Those six lawsuits, however, may represent only the visible part of a much broader campaign. Lilly says it has already referred more than 200 individuals and entities to the FDA, Department of Justice, state attorneys general, law-enforcement agencies and professional licensing boards. It also says it has reported more than 14,000 websites, advertisements, social-media posts and product listings across more than 100 countries.

Perhaps even more significantly, Lilly is now calling upon social-media platforms, e-commerce companies, credit-card companies, payment processors and shipping and logistics providers to help disrupt the market. Taken together, these actions suggest that the strategy is moving beyond simply sending warning letters or suing individual sellers and towards something considerably broader: an attempt to attack the infrastructure that allows the retatrutide grey market to function.

To understand why such an extraordinary market exists in the first place, however, we need to go back to where Reta actually came from.

Lilly really did invent Reta

One misconception worth clearing up immediately is the origin of retatrutide. It wasn’t discovered in China, it wasn’t invented by a peptide manufacturer, and it isn’t a naturally occurring peptide that Lilly simply decided to commercialise.

Retatrutide, originally known as LY3437943, was engineered by Lilly scientists as a 39-amino-acid peptide capable of activating three different hormone receptors: GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon. This triple activity explains why retatrutide is frequently described as a “triple agonist” or, increasingly within the peptide community, simply “Triple G”.

The underlying hormones were not discovered by Lilly, and neither was the general scientific concept of targeting multiple metabolic receptors. What Lilly’s researchers did was engineer the particular molecule, including the balance of activity across those three receptors, that we now know as retatrutide.

That distinction becomes extremely important when we consider what happened next.

So how did Lilly’s experimental molecule end up everywhere?

This is perhaps the most fascinating part of the retatrutide story, because it illustrates an inherent tension between pharmaceutical intellectual property and the scientific disclosure on which that system partly depends.

When pharmaceutical companies develop new molecules, they commonly seek patent protection for their inventions, but patents are not secret documents. The fundamental bargain behind the patent system is that, in exchange for a limited period of legal protection, information about an invention is disclosed publicly. Scientific publication subsequently adds further information about the molecule, its structure, pharmacology and experimental results.

Lilly published research describing LY3437943 and its pharmacological characteristics, while patent literature disclosed further information about the invention. Once sufficient structural information about a peptide becomes publicly knowable, sophisticated peptide chemists don’t necessarily need to obtain Lilly’s physical product and dismantle it chemically to determine what is inside.

They already have much of the blueprint.

This is why describing what followed simply as “China reverse-engineered Lilly’s drug” doesn’t quite capture what happened. There did not necessarily need to be a Lilly vial sitting in a Chinese laboratory being analysed molecule by molecule. Once the structure had entered the scientific and patent literature, independent chemists could study the publicly available information and develop their own approaches to synthesising the molecule.

And that is where China’s enormous peptide-manufacturing industry enters the story.

China learns how to make Reta

By July 2023, Hangzhou Xinhai Pharmaceutical Technology had filed a Chinese patent for a “Preparation method of Retatrutide.” The objective wasn’t to discover retatrutide — Lilly had already done that — but to develop an effective method of manufacturing it.

The patent describes peptide-synthesis techniques intended to reduce preparation difficulty, shorten production time, improve yield and lower costs, making production more suitable for larger-scale manufacture. Other approaches to synthesising retatrutide subsequently appeared, illustrating how knowledge of an invented molecule can spread far beyond the company that originally created it.

This distinction matters because independent manufacturers aren’t necessarily copying Lilly’s manufacturing process. They can instead know the identity and structure of the molecule and then develop their own processes for producing it.

That sequence of events helps explain something that might otherwise seem almost impossible: how an experimental pharmaceutical molecule that has never been commercially released by its inventor can nevertheless become widely available from independent manufacturers around the world.

The traditional pharmaceutical pathway and the peptide-market pathway have effectively been running alongside one another, but at dramatically different speeds.

For Lilly, the journey involves discovery, preclinical research, Phase 1 trials, Phase 2 trials, Phase 3 trials, regulatory submission and, if regulators are satisfied with the evidence, eventual approval and commercialisation. Each stage exists for important reasons, particularly to establish safety, efficacy, manufacturing consistency and appropriate use, but collectively the process takes many years.

Once the identity of a peptide becomes publicly knowable, however, an entirely different pathway can emerge. Independent chemists develop synthesis methods, manufacturers begin producing material, international suppliers distribute it, vendors offer it online and consumers gain access.

Consumer access has, in effect, outrun pharmaceutical approval.

The grey market got there first

This has created one of the strangest situations in contemporary obesity medicine. Lilly invented retatrutide, funded its development and is conducting the enormous clinical-trial programme required to establish whether it is sufficiently safe and effective to become an approved medicine, yet Lilly still cannot commercially sell retatrutide to the public.

Meanwhile, something labelled “retatrutide” can already be purchased through the grey market.

There is, of course, an extremely important distinction between those two things. A vial supplied by an independent manufacturer and labelled “retatrutide” is not Lilly’s clinical-trial product, even where analytical testing indicates that the expected peptide is present. Such testing does not automatically establish equivalent manufacturing controls, formulation, dose accuracy, impurity profile, sterility, stability or handling, all of which are important components of pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Nevertheless, from a market perspective something remarkable has happened: the molecule has developed a substantial international following before regulatory approval.

The attraction isn’t difficult to understand. In May, Lilly reported that participants receiving 12 mg retatrutide in its Phase 3 TRIUMPH-1 obesity trial lost an average 28.3% of their body weight over 80 weeks, while nearly half achieved weight loss of at least 30%.

Results of that magnitude inevitably attract attention, but they also create demand, including demand from people unwilling to wait for the conventional pharmaceutical development process to reach its conclusion.

It is precisely that gap between scientific excitement, consumer demand and regulatory approval that the peptide grey market has moved extraordinarily quickly to fill.

Now Lilly is coming after the market

Seen in that context, this week’s six lawsuits begin to look less like isolated legal disputes and more like the latest stage in a much wider struggle over who controls access to an experimental molecule.

Lilly’s position is unequivocal: retatrutide cannot lawfully be compounded or sold to consumers while it remains an unapproved investigational drug. Its latest litigation specifically challenges businesses that Lilly alleges describe their products as “research use only” while their wider conduct demonstrates that the products are actually intended for human consumption.

That distinction has implications extending well beyond retatrutide, because “Research Use Only” is one of the foundations on which the modern research-peptide market operates.

The FDA has already been scrutinising this boundary. In December 2024, it announced warning letters to Xcel Peptides, Swisschems, Summit Research and Prime Peptides concerning unapproved GLP-1 products including retatrutide. More recently, in March 2026, FDA issued a warning letter to Gram Peptides after reviewing its website and observing retatrutide and other products being offered for sale.

The important lesson is that putting “RUO” or “Not for Human Consumption” on a vial or website does not necessarily end the regulatory inquiry. Authorities can look beyond the disclaimer to the wider circumstances in which a product is being marketed and sold.

What does the website say about it? What do accompanying social-media posts imply? Are human outcomes discussed? Are dosing or administration instructions provided? Is the customer genuinely purchasing a chemical for laboratory research, or does the surrounding evidence suggest that the product is actually being marketed for personal use?

Those questions could become increasingly important across the entire peptide industry.

So who could be next?

It would be irresponsible to predict that any particular company will be sued or targeted next when we simply don’t know what Lilly or regulators are investigating. What we can do, however, is look at the categories Lilly itself appears to be focusing on, and the breadth of that list is striking.

Dedicated peptide vendors are clearly within its sights, but so are compounding pharmacies, medical spas, aesthetic businesses, wellness clinics and other online sellers that Lilly believes are facilitating consumer access to retatrutide.

There is then a second layer which could ultimately prove even more consequential: the companies that provide the infrastructure on which those businesses depend.

Lilly is explicitly calling on social-media platforms, e-commerce companies, payment processors, credit-card companies and shipping and logistics providers to intervene. This matters because an online peptide market needs much more than manufacturers and vendors to function. Sellers need somewhere to advertise, somewhere to communicate with customers, a mechanism for accepting payment and, ultimately, a logistics network capable of delivering the product.

If pressure moves systematically towards those chokepoints, the consequences could extend far beyond the companies named in this week’s lawsuits.

It also raises an intriguing question about where enforcement pressure might push the market next. Closing websites or removing conventional payment methods doesn’t necessarily eliminate demand; it may instead encourage activity to migrate towards private groups, encrypted messaging, cryptocurrency or direct relationships with overseas manufacturers, potentially making an already difficult market even less visible.

Can Reta actually be put back in the bottle?

This may ultimately be Lilly’s greatest challenge, because what has happened with retatrutide is fundamentally different from conventional pharmaceutical counterfeiting.

Knowledge of the molecule cannot now be undisclosed.

Its structure is known, scientific literature exists, independent synthesis methods have been developed and peptide-manufacturing capability exists internationally. Meanwhile, a large global community has become familiar with a molecule that many simply call “Reta”.

None of this determines who is legally entitled to manufacture, import, advertise or sell retatrutide, nor does it remove the very real safety questions surrounding unapproved products. Intellectual-property rights, medicines regulation, import rules and consumer-protection law continue to apply regardless of whether the chemistry is publicly understood.

What it does demonstrate, however, is how difficult it has become to contain knowledge of a reproducible molecule within the traditional pharmaceutical-development ecosystem once global interest reaches a certain level.

That is why retatrutide has become such an extraordinary case study in the collision between pharmaceutical intellectual property, open scientific knowledge, global manufacturing capability, medicines regulation and consumer demand.

Lilly invented retatrutide and is spending years and enormous sums of money taking it through clinical development. Scientific and patent disclosure subsequently made the molecule knowable, independent chemists developed ways of synthesising it, global manufacturing turned that knowledge into physical material, and extraordinary consumer interest created an international market before regulatory approval had arrived.

Now Lilly is trying to push back against that market, not only by pursuing the people selling retatrutide but increasingly by challenging the infrastructure that allows those sales to happen.

Whether that campaign succeeds is another question entirely, because even if hundreds or thousands of listings disappear, neither the molecular knowledge nor the underlying demand disappears with them.

The six lawsuits filed this week therefore feel less like the conclusion of the retatrutide grey-market story than the beginning of a much bigger confrontation.

Lilly invented Reta. The grey market got there first. Now the battle over who gets to sell it — and when — is escalating.

Vitamins and supplements were widely used long before today’s regulatory framework existed. As research peptides move further into the mainstream, their history raises an intriguing question about what happens next.

A few days ago, I published a Peptides Weekly note pointing out something that sounds surprising until you understand the regulatory distinction: the multivitamin sitting in your kitchen cupboard probably isn’t an approved medicine either.

In both the US and UK, most ordinary dietary supplements do not individually go through the medicines-approval process that applies to pharmaceutical drugs. Yet millions of people can walk into a supermarket, pharmacy or health-food shop, buy vitamin D, magnesium or fish oil and take it perfectly legally.

The reason is not that supplements are unregulated. It is that supplements have an established legal home for consumer use, while research peptides currently don’t.

That observation sent me looking backwards, because the position supplements occupy today can seem so normal that it is easy to assume it has always existed. It hasn’t. The modern supplement market emerged through decades of argument over consumer access, safety, health claims and the difficult boundary between foods and medicines.

Research peptides are clearly not the same thing as supplements, and I want to make that distinction from the outset. Many are pharmacologically active, many are injected, and some are already being developed or used as medicines. Nevertheless, there are enough similarities in the regulatory journey to make the history worth examining.

The question is not whether peptides are simply the new supplements. It is whether we are once again watching consumer behaviour and a rapidly growing health market move faster than the regulatory framework around them.

Supplements had a market before they had today’s regulatory home

Long before anyone had heard of DSHEA, the US law that would eventually reshape supplement regulation, consumers were already buying vitamins and minerals.

By the middle of the twentieth century, nutritional products had become a substantial commercial market and regulators were already confronting questions that still sound familiar today. How much evidence should manufacturers need before selling a health-related product? How far should companies be allowed to go in describing potential benefits? At what point does something sold for health become a drug? How much responsibility should sit with the regulator, and how much with the individual consumer?

Those arguments intensified during the 1960s and 1970s as the FDA sought greater control over high-potency vitamin and mineral products. The resulting battle was not merely scientific; it involved consumers, supplement manufacturers, politicians and competing ideas about personal choice and public protection.

Congress eventually intervened through what became known as the Proxmire Amendment of 1976, which restricted the FDA’s ability to regulate vitamin and mineral supplements as drugs simply because of their potency.

That still was not the system Americans recognise today, but it demonstrated something important: the market, consumer demand and political pressure were already forcing regulators and legislators to reconsider where these products belonged.

Nearly two decades later came the defining change.

1994: when supplements acquired their modern US framework

In 1994, the US Congress passed the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act, usually shortened to DSHEA.

The name sounds bureaucratic, but its importance is fairly simple: it formally defined dietary supplements and established the modern legal framework under which the FDA regulates them as a category of food rather than as pharmaceutical drugs. The FDA itself states that it does not approve dietary supplements for safety and effectiveness before they are marketed. (U.S. Food and Drug Administration)

That distinction fundamentally changes what has to happen before a product reaches consumers.

A pharmaceutical company developing a new medicine generally has to take a specific drug product through a regulatory process intended to establish its quality, safety and effectiveness for the proposed use before it can be approved for marketing.

A dietary supplement manufacturer generally does not have to obtain FDA approval of each finished supplement before putting it on the market. In many cases, companies can lawfully market supplements without even notifying the FDA first, although separate requirements apply in areas such as new dietary ingredients. That does not mean anything can simply be put into a bottle and sold. Manufacturers remain responsible for complying with applicable ingredient, manufacturing, safety and labelling requirements, while the FDA retains powers to act against adulterated or misbranded products. There are also important restrictions on the claims that manufacturers can make.

Nevertheless, the distinction is enormous. Supplements were given a regulatory route to consumers that does not require every product to become an approved medicine first.

What now feels like an entirely ordinary aisle in a pharmacy is therefore the product of a long and sometimes contentious regulatory evolution.

The UK took a different route, but the basic distinction is familiar

The UK did not have its own DSHEA moment in 1994, and it would be misleading to pretend the two histories are identical.

The modern British framework was heavily shaped by European food law, particularly the EU Food Supplements Directive of 2002, subsequently implemented through the Food Supplements Regulations 2003 and corresponding legislation across the UK. Those regulations established compositional and labelling requirements for food supplements, including permitted vitamin and mineral substances. (GOV.UK)

The important similarity is that supplements are principally treated as foods rather than medicines.

A bottle of vitamin D does not have to become an MHRA-authorised medicine simply because people buy it to support their health. Food supplements have their own requirements concerning composition, safety, labelling and health claims.

There is, however, a boundary. UK government guidance states that familiar substances such as vitamins, amino acids and minerals are generally regulated under food safety and labelling rules unless the way they are presented, or the active substances they contain, means they should instead be treated as medicinal products. The MHRA determines that boundary. (GOV.UK)

The MHRA even has terminology for products whose status is not immediately obvious: “borderline products.”

That phrase seems particularly appropriate when thinking about today’s peptide market, where the question is often not simply whether something exists legally, but what regulatory category it actually belongs in.

What supplements really gained was a middle lane

This is the part of the history that interests me most.

The transformation of supplement regulation was not simply about declaring supplements “legal”. They already existed, consumers already wanted them and regulators already exercised authority over them.

What emerged was a clearer regulatory lane between ordinary food and pharmaceutical medicine.

Very broadly, a modern consumer can encounter:

Food → dietary / food supplement → medicine

The boundaries can still become complicated, but the middle category unquestionably exists.

Now consider the position of many research peptides.

At present, their landscape can look considerably more awkward.

Where does the RUO market fit?

If supplements have an established consumer category, the position of research peptides looks rather different:

Laboratory research → ? → medicine

That question mark is at the heart of this article, but it should not obscure an important point: the research market on the left-hand side is itself legitimate.

There is an established scientific supply chain for peptides, reagents and other research chemicals, and vendors can legitimately manufacture and supply substances that are not approved medicines when they are genuinely intended for laboratory or analytical research. Many research-peptide businesses explicitly position themselves within this market, restricting their stated intended use to research rather than presenting their products as treatments or medicines.

The regulatory tension arises partly because the market surrounding those products has changed. Peptides that were once discussed predominantly within laboratories and specialist research communities are now attracting substantial interest from consumers, clinicians, longevity communities and mainstream media. That creates an unusual situation in which a legitimate research market increasingly sits alongside a much broader public interest in the same molecules.

The unanswered question is whether regulation will continue to maintain a firm division between research supply and medicines, or whether additional legitimate pathways could eventually emerge between them.

“Research Use Only” has a real meaning — but also a boundary

“Research Use Only” should not be treated as meaningless. It identifies an important distinction between products supplied for research and products marketed for human therapeutic use.

A peptide does not need to be an approved medicine simply to be manufactured, studied or supplied for legitimate research. For vendors genuinely operating within that sphere, RUO labelling and careful separation from human-use claims can therefore reflect the market they are actually serving.

The complication is that regulators do not necessarily determine intended use from the label alone. They can consider the overall circumstances in which a product is marketed, including website content, claims, instructions and other evidence about what the seller is representing the product to be used for.

The FDA illustrated this distinction in a March 2026 warning letter to Gram Peptides, which offered products including retatrutide and tirzepatide. Although the website carried “Research Use Only” and “not intended for human consumption” disclaimers, the FDA said other content demonstrated an intended human drug use and consequently treated the products as unapproved new drugs.

The lesson is therefore more nuanced than “RUO doesn’t count.” It does count when it accurately describes a genuine research product and market. What it cannot necessarily do is override other evidence showing that a product is actually being promoted for human therapeutic use.

This distinction helps explain why the current research-peptide market is so interesting. RUO already has a legitimate regulatory purpose; what it does not provide is a recognised consumer-health pathway equivalent to the one supplements eventually acquired.

That leaves a bigger question hanging over the rapidly expanding peptide market: as scientific interest, commercial activity and consumer awareness continue to grow, will the boundary remain essentially research on one side and medicine on the other, or could additional regulated pathways eventually develop between them?

That is the gap I am interested in — not whether the research market itself is legitimate, but whether today’s regulatory architecture will remain the only possible one.

Are peptides “the new supplements”?

This is where the historical comparison needs some nuance. There are intriguing parallels between the two markets, but there are also important differences in the products themselves and the regulatory questions they raise.

Many of the peptides attracting attention today are not nutritional substances in the conventional sense of a dietary supplement. Some are biologically and pharmacologically active compounds that interact with receptors, hormones, inflammatory pathways, metabolic systems and other processes, while others remain primarily tools or subjects of scientific research.

Retatrutide provides a particularly clear example. It is being developed through the pharmaceutical drug-development pathway as a GLP-1, GIP and glucagon receptor agonist. Its regulatory journey is therefore fundamentally different from that of an ordinary nutritional supplement such as magnesium.

Route of administration is another distinction. Under US law, dietary supplements are intended for ingestion, whereas a significant part of the research-peptide market involves products supplied in forms that may also attract interest because peptides are commonly studied or developed for administration by injection. That brings additional considerations around sterility, contamination, impurities, manufacturing quality and dose accuracy.

At the same time, “peptide” does not describe a single regulatory category or even a single type of market. Peptide chemistry already spans several worlds: some peptides are established medicines, some are investigational drug candidates, some are legitimate laboratory research substances, and individual compounds may move between these contexts as the science and evidence develop.

This is precisely why the supplement comparison is interesting without needing the two markets to be equivalent. The argument is not that a research peptide should be regulated like a multivitamin simply because supplements once followed their own regulatory journey. Rather, supplement history demonstrates that rapidly developing health and science markets can force regulators, legislators, industry and consumers to revisit where products belong and whether existing categories remain appropriate.

The fact that something is a peptide tells us about its chemistry, but it does not by itself tell us what the finished product is, what it is intended for, or how it should ultimately be regulated. The more interesting question is whether today’s different peptide pathways will become clearer and more differentiated as the market matures.

Peptide regulation is already evolving

One reason I hesitate to think about the future as a simple choice between “research chemical” and “approved medicine” is that other regulated pathways already exist.

Compounding is one example. In the US, qualifying pharmacies, physicians and outsourcing facilities can compound medicines within specific legal frameworks, and individual peptides are increasingly entering those regulatory discussions.

In July 2026, the FDA’s Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee considered BPC-157, KPV, TB-500, MOTS-C, DSIP, Semax and Epitalon-related substances for potential inclusion on the 503A Bulks List. The FDA has also separately considered safety and quality questions surrounding individual peptides used in compounding.

Whatever one’s view of the individual decisions, I find the broader development more interesting: peptides are increasingly being considered individually rather than as one homogeneous category.

That may ultimately tell us more about the future than the idea of creating a single new legal category for “peptides”. Some may become approved medicines, others may have roles within regulated compounding, some will remain investigational, and many will continue to have entirely legitimate lives as laboratory research substances.

The boundaries may therefore become more differentiated rather than simply more permissive or restrictive.

So what can the supplement story actually tell us?

This brings me back to the question that started this article.

Are we watching the supplement story happen again?

Not literally. Supplements and peptides are different products with different risk profiles, routes of administration, evidence bases and regulatory histories. There is no reason to assume that because supplements eventually acquired a clearer consumer framework, research peptides inevitably will too.

What feels familiar is what happens when an established regulatory system meets a rapidly changing market.

The supplement story involved growing consumer interest, expanding commercial activity, disagreement over risks and benefits, arguments about health claims, tension between individual choice and regulatory protection, enforcement action and eventually political debate about whether the existing framework remained appropriate.

Some of those forces are becoming increasingly visible around peptides today.

Research supply continues to serve a legitimate scientific market, while public awareness of many of the same compounds has expanded dramatically. Consumers discuss them online, clinicians and researchers explore their potential, pharmaceutical companies develop peptide medicines, compounding pharmacies follow regulatory decisions, and specialist vendors operate within an RUO market that is receiving far more mainstream attention than it once did.

That convergence is perhaps more significant than any direct comparison between a vial of peptide and a bottle of vitamins.

The supplement experience also reminds us that finding a legal category does not make the underlying questions disappear. Supplements remain subject to continuing debates about evidence, quality, adulteration, claims and consumer protection decades after their modern regulatory framework was established. Any future evolution in peptide regulation would bring its own difficult questions around manufacturing standards, testing, purity, sterility, evidence, marketing and responsibility.

For that reason, I no longer think the most interesting question is whether research peptides will acquire their own equivalent of the supplement category.

They may never do so.

What I hope emerges is something much simpler: greater legal clarity. Supplements eventually gained a framework that made clear how they could be lawfully sold to consumers without being approved medicines. As peptides become more mainstream, perhaps the real question is whether regulation can eventually provide the same clarity about where research peptides belong and what is — and is not — permitted.

That, ultimately, is what I take from the supplement story.

The multivitamin aisle we now regard as completely ordinary did not arrive with its current regulatory framework fully formed. Its legal position developed over decades as science, consumer behaviour, commercial interests, regulators and legislators interacted with one another.

Research peptides are now attracting attention far beyond the specialist communities in which many were once primarily discussed. Nobody knows where that will lead, and history certainly does not guarantee that peptides will follow supplements.

But it does remind us of something easily forgotten:

Regulatory categories evolve.

The interesting question is not whether peptides are “the new supplements”, but what the peptide landscape will look like when today’s period of rapid scientific, commercial and consumer change eventually settles.

And the more time I spend in this community, the more I realise I am far from alone.

I have watched people move remarkably quickly from:

USER → ENTHUSIAST → EDUCATOR → ENTREPRENEUR

Often vendor belongs in that sequence too.

It isn’t difficult to understand why.

Peptides are exciting. Interest is exploding. Online communities are growing. New compounds generate enormous curiosity. Supply chains can appear surprisingly accessible. Websites and communities can be built quickly. And compared with developing a conventional pharmaceutical business, the apparent barriers to entering the research-peptide market can look remarkably low.

My own UK tracking illustrates just how quickly this is happening.

When I first began building the Peptides Weekly UK Vendor Dashboard, I identified around:

25 UK research-peptide vendors.

Within approximately three months:

~75.

Even allowing for rebrands, sister companies and businesses that may share common ownership, that is an extraordinary rate of expansion.

But as my own involvement in this market has deepened, I’ve become increasingly interested in another number.

How many are disappearing?

Across the US and elsewhere, once-prominent peptide vendors have shut down, gone dark or faced regulatory action.

Some closures are voluntary.

Some may simply reflect commercial decisions.

Others have involved regulators or law enforcement.

Those are very different circumstances and shouldn’t be conflated.

But collectively they reveal something that anyone drawn into peptide entrepreneurship — myself included — needs to think seriously about:

A peptide business can appear remarkably easy to start. Building one that lasts is another matter entirely.

And that is really what this investigation is about.

Not how to make money selling peptides.

Not which existing business model to copy.

And certainly not an argument that everyone entering this market is doing something wrong.

I’m trying to understand something much more fundamental:

What does responsible and sustainable peptide entrepreneurship actually look like?

Because the deeper I investigate this market, the more complicated its boundaries appear.

Education. Human-use discussion. Consultation. Protocols. Therapy. Prescribing. Research supply.

Where does one end and another begin?

As I wrote in my Peptides Weekly note earlier this week, genuine passion and good intentions don’t remove the need to understand exactly where the regulatory boundaries sit.

I’m learning too.

Two businesses illustrate just how blurred those boundaries can be: Healand Clinic in the UK and Dr Jones DC’s wellness operations in the US. I use both as case studies in this article — not because their models are identical, but because each reveals how peptide businesses are navigating the grey areas between research, medicine, wellness and the rapidly expanding grey market.

The peptide boom — and the businesses disappearing within it

The regulated peptide therapeutics industry is already worth tens of billions of dollars globally, driven by GLP-1 drugs, oncology treatments and an expanding pipeline of peptide-based medicines.

Alongside it, something much harder to measure has exploded: research-use peptides, compounded formulations, clinic programmes, direct-to-consumer suppliers and an online culture built around compounds such as BPC-157, TB-500, CJC-1295, ipamorelin, GHK-Cu and MOTS-c.

One recent number illustrates the speed.

Chainalysis reported that cryptocurrency flowing into the grey-market peptide ecosystem increased from approximately $12 million in Q4 2025 to $32 million in Q1 2026.

That is:

+159% in a single quarter.

Based on the activity Chainalysis could observe on-chain, the market had reached a $100-million-plus annualised crypto rate.

And cryptocurrency captures only part of the trade.

The same expansion is visible in the UK through my own tracking:

~25 vendors → ~75

in approximately three months.

Supply is multiplying.

Demand is growing.

Online audiences are expanding.

And increasingly influential doctors, chiropractors, clinic owners, educators, biohackers, influencers and vendors are shaping how the public understands peptides.

But there is another side to the boom.

The peptide vendor graveyard

Businesses are disappearing too.

Industry shutdown trackers record numerous research-peptide suppliers going offline during 2025 and 2026.

One particularly high-profile example came in March 2026, when Peptide Sciences, one of the best-known names in the US research-peptide market, announced that it had made the decision to voluntarily shut down operations and discontinue selling its research products.

Other cases are considerably more serious.

US authorities have pursued sellers accused of presenting products as being for research purposes while allegedly knowing they were intended for human use. In one prominent criminal case involving Paradigm Peptides, the owner was sentenced to nearly six years in prison after prosecutors established that unapproved and misbranded drugs had been sold to consumers.

But an important distinction needs to be made.

A voluntary closure is not regulatory enforcement.

Regulatory enforcement is not criminal prosecution.

And a business closing does not mean it broke the law.

I don’t want to create a single narrative around businesses that disappeared for very different reasons.

What interests me is the broader pattern:

The peptide market is producing businesses extraordinarily quickly — but there is no guarantee those businesses will prove durable.

Why?

Regulation is one part of the answer.

Quality control is another.

Banking and payment processing matter.

Supply chains matter.

Trust matters.

Evidence matters.

And increasingly, credibility matters.

That brings me to Healand.

Case Study 1: Healand

When “Peptide Therapy” meets “Research Only”

Healand Clinic in Leicester, UK, has developed a polished, clinically presented peptide offering.

Its website openly advertises:

Peptide Therapy

• There are consultations.

• Individual programmes.

• Monthly pricing.

Peptides

• Injection supplies.

• Delivery.

Yet the same public-facing model also uses very different language.

Healand states:

Peptide use in the UK is considered to be for research purposes only.

Individual compounds including Semax and Epitalon are explicitly described as:

Research Only

So within the same wider customer journey we can encounter:

• Peptide Therapy

• Consultation

• Individual programme

• Research Only

• Injection supplies

• Monthly pricing

And that raises an obvious question:

What exactly is being offered?

Therapy?

Research use peptides?

An experimental intervention?

Or something sitting somewhere between those categories?

I am not making a determination that Healand’s model breaches UK medicines legislation.

That is a question for the relevant regulators.

What interests me is the apparent tension in the public-facing model — because the MHRA’s own position makes that tension particularly relevant.

What does the MHRA actually say?

In April, The Pharmacist published an excellent and unusually detailed investigation:

“Grey-market peptides: what pharmacists need to know.”

The publication asked the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency directly about businesses using research-purpose language.

Lynda Scammell, the MHRA’s Head of Borderlines, responded:

We disregard claims that products are for ‘research purposes’ if it is clear that such claims are being used as an attempt to avoid medicines regulations.

That sentence matters.

But so does what follows it.

The MHRA explained that peptide products can fall under different regulatory frameworks depending on their intended purpose and that medicine status is determined case by case.

It also said that if promotional material provides evidence that products are unauthorised medicines intended for human use, appropriate regulatory action can follow.

The MHRA subsequently confirmed to The Pharmacist that it was reviewing a number of peptide-related websites, including several clinics. (The Pharmacist)

None of that establishes that Healand has breached medicines legislation.

But it shows why simply putting “Research Only” on a peptide does not necessarily settle the regulatory question.

And interestingly, Healand’s own medical director, Dr Omar Babar, appears extensively in the same article.

He discusses what he sees as confusion around peptide classification and argues that informed consent is vital. He says users need to understand that the products concerned are unlicensed and advocates greater regulation of the market. (The Pharmacist)

That makes Healand a much more nuanced case than simply “clinic versus regulator”.

But then something else happens.

The professional scrutiny itself acquires value.

When media scrutiny becomes publicity

Read The Pharmacist article in full and its framing is unmistakable.

Grey-market peptides are primarily presented as a patient-safety and regulatory challenge.

The article discusses research-use-only labelling, uncertain product identity, strength, sterility and quality, weak clinical evidence, dosing, self-injection and professional responsibility.

Professor Amira Guirguis, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s chief scientist, warns that products sold online as research-use only are not regulated like licensed medicines and may lack robust clinical evidence and agreed dosing standards. (The Pharmacist)

Healand and Dr Babar appear within that much broader discussion.

But once a business republishes its own participation, the centre of gravity can change.

The takeaway can move from:

Professional publication investigates the risks surrounding grey-market peptides.

to:

Our medical director was featured in a professional publication discussing peptides.

Both can be factually true.

But the impression created for a reader can be very different.

And the Daily Mail provides an even more interesting example.

The Daily Mail published a substantial feature examining the extraordinary enthusiasm now accumulating around peptides.

Healand appears through the story of a patient who reported a striking recovery after a protocol involving BPC-157, CJC-1295 and ipamorelin.

Dr Babar is quoted too.

But the Healand story doesn’t appear in isolation.

The wider feature places enthusiasm for peptides alongside warnings about experimental interventions, questionable products and the absence of robust human clinical evidence for many compounds promoted within the wellness market.

Dr Babar himself acknowledges the limitations of anecdotal evidence and the need for proper data.

Healand subsequently published its own article:

The Daily Mail Features Healand Clinic In The Peptide Weight-Loss Debate.

Understandably, Healand’s version concentrates much more heavily on Healand: the patient’s reported outcome, the clinic’s role, its medical supervision and its wider credentials.

It does still acknowledge expert warnings.

But the centre of gravity changes.

The media appearance itself becomes a positive story about the clinic.

And that reveals something fascinating about credibility in emerging health markets.

How scrutiny can become marketing collateral

The process can look something like this:

The journalism hasn’t changed.

The frame has.

This isn’t unique to peptides.

Companies and influencers are turning media appearances and criticism into marketing material forever.

But peptides create particularly fertile conditions for it because consumers are already navigating an exceptionally confusing mixture of:

• licensed medicines;

• unlicensed medicines;

• compounded medicines;

• research compounds;

• experimental interventions;

• clinical trials;

• wellness;

• longevity medicine;

• biohacking; and

• grey-market supply.

Most consumers cannot reasonably be expected to understand every regulatory and evidential distinction. And when an experimental intervention is presented within a polished clinical setting — supported by doctors, consultations, patient testimonials, awards and appearances in familiar newspapers or professional publications — it can begin to feel considerably more established than the underlying evidence or regulatory status might suggest.

No individual statement necessarily needs to be false for the overall impression to change. That is why context matters.

The American variation: Dr Jones, DC

The US provides a different version of the same wider challenge. But it is important not to treat Dr Jones, DC as simply the American equivalent of Healand. The regulatory frameworks are different, and so is the tension I am interested in.

Dr Jones DC’s wider operation is presented across two websites: the Dr Jones DC Wellness Institute, which promotes nationwide and online programmes, and Colorado Medical Solutions, which presents the physical Denver clinic and its broader range of wellness services.

Taken together, they offer an interesting picture of how peptides can sit within a much larger, clinically branded health ecosystem.

The Dr Jones DC Wellness Institute promotes medical weight loss, GLP-1 support, peptide therapy, bioidentical hormones, anti-ageing and functional medicine. Its weight-loss pathway begins with consultation and blood panels before moving into what the site calls “Micro-Dosing GLP-1 + Peptides”, alongside lifestyle support and longer-term maintenance. The site separately lists a substantial range of peptides, including BPC-157, TB-500, CJC-1295 with ipamorelin, AOD-9604, tesamorelin, KPV, Selank and others. (Dr. Jones - Weight Loss Support)

The Colorado Medical Solutions website adds the physical-clinic dimension, presenting Dr Jones DC’s Denver operation within a broader wellness setting. So rather than encountering peptides through a standalone research-peptide vendor, a consumer encounters them as part of a much wider health proposition: weight management, hormones, anti-ageing, functional medicine and other wellness interventions.

That distinction is important. The presentation looks and feels like an integrated clinical environment, and the Wellness Institute explicitly describes a process involving health assessments, laboratory testing, clinical review, personalised plans and ongoing monitoring. But within that same ecosystem are interventions with very different regulatory and evidential positions.

The Wellness Institute itself makes an important distinction in its small print. It states that, where a clinician considers compounded medication appropriate, “any compounded medications are not approved by the FDA or reviewed for quality, safety or efficacy.” It then separately identifies Novo Nordisk’s semaglutide products and Eli Lilly’s tirzepatide products as the FDA-approved branded medicines containing those active ingredients. That qualification matters, but so does the distinction between this model and the UK case study.

Compounded medicines are not synonymous with grey-market research peptides. Nor does the presence of a compounded-medication disclaimer mean that every component of a Dr Jones DC programme is compounded or unapproved.

The more interesting issue is what happens when interventions with very different levels of regulatory approval and supporting evidence are brought together within one seamless-looking health programme.

A consumer might encounter an FDA-approved GLP-1 medicine alongside a compounded formulation, peptide therapy, hormone treatment and lifestyle coaching. Some peptides discussed across the Wellness Institute have considerably more limited human clinical evidence than established approved medicines. Yet from the consumer’s perspective, all can sit within the same polished clinical journey: consultation, testing, personalised treatment, monitoring and optimisation.

That raises a deceptively simple question:

How does an ordinary person know which is which?

Which intervention is FDA-approved? Which is compounded? Which has substantial human clinical evidence? Which remains experimental? And, perhaps most importantly, are those distinctions as prominent when potential benefits are being described as they are in the regulatory disclosures?

This is a different grey-zone question from the one raised by Healand. But it belongs to the same rapidly evolving peptide economy.

Two businesses. Two different tensions.

Healand and Dr Jones DC should therefore not be collapsed into the same category.

The public-facing tension I am examining with Healand is:

THERAPY ↔ RESEARCH ONLY

With Dr Jones DC, it is different:

INTEGRATED CLINICAL PROGRAMME ↔ DIFFERING EVIDENCE & REGULATORY STATUS

The jurisdictions differ. The products differ. The regulatory mechanisms differ. And the businesses themselves differ.

Yet both case studies lead back to the same broader question:

What happens when interventions with very different evidence and regulatory statuses are presented through the same polished language, clinical environment and visual cues of modern healthcare?

For the growing number of peptide enthusiasts moving towards entrepreneurship, I think understanding that distinction will become increasingly important. Building a credible peptide business may ultimately depend not on making these boundaries less visible, but on making them much clearer.

What actually makes a peptide business sustainable?

This brings me back to where the article started.

The peptide enthusiasts becoming entrepreneurs.

Including me.

If getting a website online and finding products were the hardest parts of building a peptide business, the explosion from roughly 25 to 75 vendors in my UK tracking would probably be entirely good news.

But I don’t think they are.

The harder challenge is building something people can trust after the excitement of the boom wears off.

Several things increasingly stand out to me.

So what might actually survive?

Looking across the vendor boom, the businesses that have disappeared, and the very different models of Healand and Dr Jones DC, I keep coming back to the same conclusion: getting into the peptide market may be relatively easy. Building something credible enough to last is much harder.

And credibility in this market is not created by any one thing. A polished website is not enough. Neither is a doctor, a media appearance, a testimonial or even an impressive-looking certificate of analysis. If the next generation of peptide businesses wants to become more than a temporary feature of the boom, I think credibility will have to be built much more deliberately.

Regulatory clarity is an obvious place to start. If a product is genuinely for research use only, that positioning needs to be clear and consistent. If something is unlicensed, people need to understand what that means. And if a medication is compounded, its status should not become indistinguishable from that of an approved medicine simply because both appear within the same polished clinical programme.

The same principle applies to evidence. The peptide world has become extraordinarily good at saying that something is “backed by research”, but that phrase can conceal enormous differences in what the research actually shows. A mouse study is not a human randomised controlled trial. A plausible biological mechanism is not evidence of a clinical outcome. And an extraordinary patient story, however genuine, is still an anecdote rather than proof.

Testing presents a similar problem. The growing prominence of COAs is undoubtedly a positive development, but a beautiful certificate can create its own false sense of certainty. A strong HPLC purity result does not automatically establish identity, sterility, dose accuracy or clinical safety. The question is not simply whether something has been tested, but what was tested, how it was tested, by whom, and what the result actually allows us to conclude.

Then there is perhaps the most uncomfortable issue for anyone combining peptide education with commerce: conflicts of interest.

This one matters particularly to me.

Peptides Weekly educates people about peptides and has a research-peptide catalogue. Pretending there is no potential tension between those activities would be disingenuous. The answer, I don’t think, is to pretend the commercial relationship doesn’t exist. It is to make it visible, build meaningful editorial boundaries around it and give readers enough information to distinguish between education, evidence, opinion and commerce.

That principle extends to the businesses I’ve examined in this article. Media appearances, professional credentials, clinical surroundings, awards and testimonials can all contribute to credibility. But none of them should substitute for clarity about the underlying product, evidence or regulatory status.

The same is true of harm reduction. If a business presents itself as a safer, more transparent alternative to uncontrolled sourcing, that claim should be visible in what the business actually does: meaningful testing, traceability, transparency when something goes wrong, corrective action when a product fails, and honesty about what remains unknown.

None of those things is as exciting as launching the latest peptide.

But perhaps that is precisely the point.

The businesses that last may not be the ones that create the most excitement. They may be the ones that create the most trust.

Perhaps we’ve been asking the wrong question

Much of the conversation around peptides has focused on growth.

How large will the market become?

How many people will use peptides?

Which compounds will break into the mainstream next?

How quickly will regulators respond?

Those are fascinating questions. But after watching my own UK vendor tracking move from roughly 25 businesses to around 75 within months, while established names elsewhere have simultaneously disappeared, I am becoming much more interested in a different question:

What survives when the market grows up?

Because if peptides continue moving towards the mainstream, the opportunity may ultimately become much broader than simply selling more vials.

There will be growing demand for independent testing and quality assurance. Better data. Evidence evaluation. Research infrastructure. Regulatory expertise. Education. Software. More sophisticated ways of interpreting COAs. And tools that help researchers, clinicians and consumers distinguish genuine evidence from persuasive marketing.

In other words, perhaps one of the biggest opportunities created by the peptide boom isn’t simply helping people obtain peptides.

It may be helping people understand what they are actually looking at.

And that brings me back to the question that started this investigation.

From enthusiast to entrepreneur — what now?

This subject feels personal because I don’t have the luxury of writing about peptide entrepreneurship as though I’m standing completely outside it.

I’m building Peptides Weekly while simultaneously investigating the ecosystem in which it operates.

Sometimes what I discover reinforces decisions I have made.

Sometimes it makes me question them.

Both are useful.

And perhaps that is part of what responsible entrepreneurship in such an immature market requires: being willing to change your own assumptions as the evidence, regulation and market change around you.

The scale of what is happening remains extraordinary.

My UK tracking went from approximately:

25 vendors → ~75

within months.

Chainalysis recorded:

+159%

growth in crypto flows to the grey-market peptide ecosystem in a single quarter.

At the same time, established vendors have disappeared, regulators are paying closer attention, professional publications are asking harder questions and mainstream media coverage is accelerating.

People like me are therefore building businesses inside a market whose eventual shape is still being decided.

That makes the easiest question:

Who can get in?

Increasingly, the answer appears to be: quite a lot of people.

The much harder question — and the one I think matters far more — is:

Who will still be here when the boom matures?

After researching this article, I suspect the answer will have less to do with who launches fastest, has the slickest website or generates the most attention.

It will have more to do with who can build trust without manufacturing certainty.

Who makes regulatory status clear rather than ambiguous.

Who distinguishes promising science from established evidence.

Who treats testing as a genuine quality-control system rather than a badge.

Who is transparent about commercial interests.

Who responds openly when something goes wrong.

And who can resist the temptation to turn every signal of credibility — including media coverage — into something more reassuring than the underlying facts justify.

The Healand case is particularly instructive here. A clinic can appear in journalism examining the uncertainties of the peptide market and subsequently gain promotional value simply from having appeared in that journalism. The original scrutiny remains, but so does the badge of recognition.

That leaves journalists with an uncomfortable question too: when does scrutiny of an emerging health market inadvertently help legitimise the businesses being scrutinised?

There probably isn’t a simple answer.

But for peptide entrepreneurs, I think the conclusion is becoming clearer.

The first phase of this boom has been about access.

The next may be about credibility.

And eventually, it will be about trust.

Getting into peptides may be the easy part. Earning enough trust to still be here when the market grows up may be much harder.

That’s the question I’m now thinking about for Peptides Weekly too.

Peptides are no longer a niche corner of biohacking. Depending on how analysts define the category, the global peptide therapeutics market in 2026 is estimated at roughly $50–60 billion on narrower regulated definitions, while broader definitions that capture more of the GLP-1 wave place it at around $164 billion. Even conservative forecasts point to continued rapid expansion, with one 2026 estimate putting the market at $70.2 billion by 2031, while broader projections run to $294.6 billion by 2033. The GLP-1 segment alone is projected at $23.88 billion in 2026 and $33.26 billion by 2030, which helps explain why peptide medicine now carries far more commercial and cultural weight than it did only a few years ago.

That growth is being amplified by social media. A July 2026 creator analysis tracking 20 named peptides across 18 months of Instagram, TikTok and YouTube content found that GHK-Cu mentions grew 9.7x, Semax 6.0x, Selank 5.3x, MOTS-c 6.1x and Epithalon 5.0x over the comparison window. In the same study, the TikTok #peppers community grew from 78 posts per month to 634 per month over 18 months, while engagement per post fell 90% from March to June 2026 even as views continued rising. On YouTube alone, more than 900,000 people subscribe to the three biggest peptide-doctor channels: Trevor Bachmeyer (395,000), Dr Dean Jones, DC (262,000) and Dr Ashley Froese (252,000). We are no longer talking about fringe forums. We are talking about a large, fast-growing influence market sitting on top of a large, fast-growing therapeutic market.

For this audit, I reviewed one dementia-related video from each of those three channels: Trevor Bachmeyer’s “Alzheimer’s and Dementia” video (39 minutes 58 seconds), Dr Dean Jones’s dementia video (19 minutes 10 seconds) and Dr Ashley Froese’s dementia video (12 minutes 31 seconds). Across the three videos, I grouped 156 evidence‑checkable claims and, with the help of AI‑driven research tools, tested each against major clinical guidelines, meta‑analyses, pivotal trials, FDA documents, high‑quality review papers and, where needed, preclinical studies.

The headline result was stark. Dr Ashley Froese and Dr Dean Jones stood apart from Trevor Bachmeyer in evidential discipline, presentation style and commercial framing. Ashley emerged as the most evidence-aligned overall, Dean occupied a more scientific but still overstated middle ground, and Trevor showed the biggest gap between confidence, salesmanship and actual human evidence.

⚠️ Readers had already been warning me about Trevor. They kept returning to the same concerns: the sweeping metabolic theories, the revoked chiropractor license, the high-ticket Black Card, the peptide sales, the absolutist claims and the sense that too much of the content sounded like pitch rather than proof. After doing the deep dive, I think that criticism belongs at the start of the story, not the end. The audit does not simply restate those concerns; it confirms many of them, and that reality is likely to unsettle some of his most committed followers.

What to expect

This is Part 1 of a two‑part Evidence Audit. It explains why these Alzheimer’s videos mattered enough to investigate, what I found when I audited their claims and incentives, and how those findings affect people in the real world.

Part 2 will be a visual deep dive into six infographics that map every evidence‑checkable claim made by Trevor Bachmeyer, Dr Ashley Froese and Dr Dean Jones.

This investigation focuses on five core findings.

• Trevor Bachmeyer’s metabolic Alzheimer’s theory sounds comprehensive and persuasive, but many of its strongest claims outrun the available human evidence.

• Trevor’s California chiropractic license was revoked in 2020, which matters because professional authority is central to how his content is received.

• Trevor’s influence is not just large but unusually sticky: a substantial share of the Alzheimer’s video is driven by anecdotes, patient stories, business promotion and commentary rather than straightforward evidence review.

• Dr Ashley Froese and Dr Dean Jones should not simply be lumped in with Trevor. Both overstate parts of the evidence, but both are more disciplined and less commercially entangled in the dementia material reviewed here.

• This mattered to me personally because I came to the audit not as a detached observer, but as someone with a mother who has dementia — exactly the kind of person vulnerable to bold claims about reversal, prevention and access to premium solutions.

Why Trevor drew the most concern

The Trevor findings are the most troubling in the audit because they combine three things at once: weak evidential alignment, strong emotional claims and direct commercial incentives. In his Alzheimer’s video, only 16.7% of 48 grouped claims were fully supported by current human evidence, while 83.3% were not fully supported as stated. Among peptide-specific dementia claims, 0% had adequate human evidence, 80% were preclinical-only and 20% were unsupported.

Those are not abstract numbers. They sit next to his claims that Alzheimer’s is 100% preventable, that dementia is reversible, that people can “get their grandmother’s mind back,” and that he could have helped Bruce Willis. They also sit next to his direct commercial interests: the Black Card programme and EliteBiogenix, his peptide sales business whose products he says he uses personally and gives to his family.

The Black Card’s price is remarkable: it is a flashing warning light, and it needs to be stated in full. Trevor markets it as a one-year VIP programme priced at $24,997, payable by wire transfer, with no refunds and no auto-renew. When an educator makes the boldest promises, sells the most direct pathway into products and premium access, and turns out to have the weakest evidence alignment of the three, readers are right to become suspicious.

The reality behind the authority

Trevor’s California chiropractic license was revoked effective July 8, 2020. That does not automatically invalidate every argument he makes, but it does change how his authority should be framed. He is not simply another “doctor” in a crowded wellness market. He is a former chiropractor whose revoked license sits in the background of a content empire built on personal certainty, anti-mainstream framing and premium monetisation.

That point is note-worthy because credential presentation is part of the persuasion. Many viewers do not investigate licensing history before trusting a confident presenter explaining Alzheimer’s, metabolism or peptide protocols. They hear conviction, experience and apparent expertise. The audit suggests that those cues can be deeply misleading when they are not matched by equivalent evidential restraint.

The headline comparison

The three videos produced very different profiles.

At first glance, Dr Ashley Froese and Dr Dean Jones look fairly similar because both land at roughly two-thirds “supported or partially supported.” But that top-line similarity hides an important difference: Ashley is more explicit about experimental status and more disciplined about separating preclinical evidence from human evidence, while Dean more often presents a real mechanistic core with more certainty than the clinical evidence can currently support.

Trevor stands apart for another reason. His video is the longest, the most rhetorically forceful and the most commercially entangled, yet it has the weakest overall evidence alignment.

Why Trevor’s content hits so hard

One of the most useful findings in this project is that these are not the same kind of videos. They may all look like “YouTube doctor explainers,” but they are composed very differently.

For Trevor Bachmeyer, the content mix is especially revealing. A breakdown based on the transcript shows roughly:

• Alzheimer’s and dementia science: ~35–40%.

• Peptides and supplements: ~15–20%.

• Nutrition and lifestyle: ~10–15%.

• Personal clinical experience and patient stories: ~15%.

• Commercial and business promotion: ~10–15%.

• Commentary and criticism: ~5–10%.

That means up to 40% of Trevor’s video is devoted to personal anecdotes, patient stories, commercial promotion, and commentary or criticism rather than straightforward explanation of Alzheimer’s science. This is one of the clearest reasons his content lands so forcefully: it does not rely on science alone. It blends science, story, grievance and sales into one persuasive package.

This is also where the phrase some readers used — “rantings” — becomes analytically useful rather than merely dismissive. The issue is not his tone by itself. The issue is that when a large share of a medical-style video is made up of criticism of mainstream medicine, polemical framing, personal authority claims and product-linked commentary, viewers may misread rhetorical force as evidential strength.

By contrast, Dr Dean Jones spends a larger proportion of his video on structured science explanation, with roughly 55–60% devoted to explaining mechanisms and research, around 20–25% on interpretation, about 10–12% on clinical anecdotes and only a small share on promotion. Dr Ashley Froese is tighter still: around 86% of her video is science, biology or intervention discussion, and only around 5% is personal commentary, disclaimers or self-promotion.

That difference in composition matters because it changes how authority is built. Trevor’s authority is built from a hybrid of science, anecdote, certainty and commerce. Dr Dean Jones’s authority is built from mechanistic structure. Dr Ashley Froese’s authority is built from density and scientific framing.

Dr Ashley Froese: the strongest grounding

Dr Ashley Froese came out best overall, and not by accident. Her video was by far the most information-dense, containing 66 grouped, evidence-checkable claims, or 5.28 per minute, compared with 2.19 for Dr Dean Jones and 1.20 for Trevor Bachmeyer. That means the shortest video actually contained the highest density of evidence-checkable statements.

She also repeatedly signals that compounds like Dihexa, Humanin, MOTS-c and SS-31 are experimental, which is a meaningful mark in her favour. That does not make her fully reliable. Her broader narrative — that dementia is fundamentally a whole-body metabolic disease that conventional medicine has largely misunderstood — still overreaches, and several supplement recommendations move beyond the evidence. But compared with the others, she does a better job of preserving the distinction between promising biology and established treatment.

Dr Dean Jones: scientific style, frequent overstatement

Dr Dean Jones is the most technically persuasive middle case. His video feels highly scientific because it is highly structured: first the Alzheimer’s model, then GLP-1s, then peptides, then supplements, then prevention strategies. The problem is not a lack of science. It is the confidence with which preliminary or mechanistic evidence is translated into clinical implication.

Only 11.9% of his claims were fully supported, while 54.8% were partially supported or overstated. That is a striking pattern. It means Dr Dean Jones often starts from a legitimate evidential core — GLP-1 trial data, peptide mechanisms, metabolic theories of dementia — and then goes a step further than the human evidence currently allows.

That makes his content especially important to fact-check. Trevor’s overstatement is often flamboyant and easy to spot. Dr Dean Jones’s is smoother and more technical, which can make it easier for viewers to mistake for settled science.

Trevor Bachmeyer: persuasive salesman, evidential letdow

Trevor’s video is the one that changed my view most sharply. Before doing the audit, I understood why people found him persuasive. He is fluent, forceful, coherent, energetic and unembarrassed by big claims. He does not merely explain peptides. He tells viewers that he understands the disease at a deeper level than conventional medicine and that he knows how to fix what others have failed to fix.

That style is incredibly persuasive, especially when it is attached to a disease as frightening as Alzheimer’s. But once the claims are checked against the evidence, that authority looks much less secure. The problem is not just overstatement. It is overstatement packaged in a way that is emotionally potent, commercially actionable and unusually well suited to audiences looking for certainty.

Why this mattered to me

I did not come to this as a detached observer. I came to it as someone with a mother who has dementia, which is one reason I chose Alzheimer’s as the test case in the first place. Like a lot of people in that position, I did not watch Trevor’s video hoping to prove him wrong. I watched it hoping he might be right.

That is exactly why people in desperate situations are so vulnerable to this kind of content. A viewer hears that Alzheimer’s is preventable, reversible, metabolically misunderstood and solvable through the right protocol. They hear that the person explaining it has seen huge results, has solved cases, has answers others do not, and offers a premium pathway into more direct help. In that emotional state, the line between hope and being “conned” into spending money you do not have on unproven therapies can become alarmingly thin.

This is not an accusation that every high-ticket health programme is fraudulent. It is a warning that when bold claims, vulnerable audiences, product sales and premium access all sit in the same ecosystem, the burden of evidential honesty should be much higher than what I found in Trevor’s Alzheimer’s video.

The shared pattern across all three

It would be too easy to turn this into a Trevor-only story. All three educators rely on some version of the same metabolic reframing of Alzheimer’s: insulin resistance, inflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, impaired glucose use and the idea that amyloid is not the whole story. Parts of that picture are scientifically credible. The problem is how far each of them takes it.

Dr Ashley Froese uses that frame to explain emerging biology and discuss experimental compounds, but still slides too easily toward implied practical strategy. Dr Dean Jones uses it to build a persuasive mechanistic case for interventions that remain only partially supported. Trevor Bachmeyer uses it as the platform for a much more sweeping reversal narrative, tied directly to protocols, products and premium access.

So the lesson is not simply that Trevor is the outlier. It is that the peptide education ecosystem as a whole rewards certainty, coherence and confidence in a field where human evidence is still thin for many of the most exciting compounds.

What readers should take away

There are five conclusions I think readers should draw from this audit.

• First, the three biggest peptide doctors on YouTube are not interchangeable. They differ sharply in evidence alignment, content mix, commercial framing and interpretive restraint.

• Second, Dr Ashley Froese is the most evidence-aligned of the three, but still often leans on preclinical research and occasionally implies more practical certainty than the data justify.

• Third, Dr Dean Jones uses real science more heavily than Trevor, but his mechanistic confidence often exceeds what the human evidence can support.

• Fourth, the concerns readers raised about Trevor Bachmeyer were not overreactions. The audit substantially validates them.

• Fifth, viewers should stop using fluency, certainty, runtime and medical branding as shortcuts for truth.

That, to me, is the real value of this exercise. Not cynicism. Not dismissal. Just better filters — especially in a field where the hope is real, but the proof often is not yet there.

At the same time, peptides have moved from Telegram channels and lab reports into PBS broadcasts, political talk shows and 19 hours of live FDA debate. From trust to stress‑test

In The Weekly Injection #4: Who’s Trustworthy in the Peptide Space? I laid out three pillars of trust: evidence, accountability and transparency. Over the last fortnight, those pillars have been tested hard.

Everything that followed—FDA meetings, vendor responses, media coverage and community Notes—has been a live‑fire test of that framework.

FDA marathon, prime‑time peptides

Across two days and 19 hours, the FDA’s Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee debated whether peptides such as BPC‑157, TB‑500, KPV and MOTS‑C should be eligible for compounding by licensed US pharmacies.

My Notes on Day 1 and “The FDA Just Spent Two Full Days Talking About Peptides” boiled that down to a few essentials:

• the committee recommended 6 of 7 peptides for potential inclusion on the 503A Bulks List (DSIP did not)

• these are advisory votes, not approvals—but they will shape how the FDA approaches peptide access

• PBS and expert witnesses like Dr Alex Tatem offered helpful insight into how regulators, clinicians, patients and industry all frame the debate.

At the same time, peptides went fully mainstream. Megyn Kelly discussed BPC‑157 and TB‑500 with Gary Brecka, while Dr Ashley Froese’s YouTube breakdown framed the real tension as access vs evidence, and safe manufacturing vs grey‑market drift. The conversation is no longer niche.

Chaos or better journalism?

In “An Extra Busy Time in Peptides – or Just Business as Usual?” I asked whether the market is genuinely more chaotic—or whether better investigative work is simply exposing long‑running problems.

Independent researcher Krysia has mapped a dense tangle of issues across the Chinese grey market: questioned products at Jack XYZ, group‑buy disputes, product suspensions and upstream manufacturing concerns touching multiple vendors. One of her lines has stuck with me:

“No vendor is immune to selling bunk kits, but what differentiates vendors is how they deal with them.”

That idea sits at the heart of Vendor Files #003 and my follow‑up on WKC. WKC’s initial failure is serious. Its subsequent replacement programme, independent testing and commitment to publish COAs complicate the story. After reviewing the data, I’ve reinstated KLOW80 to the Peptides Weekly catalogue—with the clear understanding that trust is earned continuously, not once.

COAs, labs and evidence behind the evidence

Several Notes focused on the documents and labs that now define “quality”:

• “What Is a COA (Certificate of Analysis)?” – a five‑point checklist (identity, purity, lab, test date, batch) and a reminder that COAs do not guarantee batch uniformity, safe storage or sterility.

The labs guide itself pulls these threads together, profiling the organisations behind the COAs we all rely on and arguing that their reputation should be weighed alongside the numbers.

Doctor‑creators, influencers and lived experience

On the media side, I explored why our favourite peptide influencers spend hours making YouTube content—and what their business models mean for the advice they give. A separate note gathered names from the community, from big doctor‑creators to independent coaches and commentators, as a starting point for a broader look at influence and incentives.

Two notes raised ethical questions that go beyond vendors and labs:

• one reflected on a 17‑year‑old’s account of experimenting with CJC‑1295 and Ipamorelin, asking how young is too young to start injecting growth‑related peptides when social media normalises experimentation;

• another examined why men dominate the conversation around CJC‑1295/Ipamorelin while women report very different experiences, and previewed my own evidence‑guided protocol driven by recovery needs from yoga.

And yes, there was even a very literal field note: a bruise from a routine BPC‑157 injection, used as a reminder that technique, anatomy and route matter as much as what’s in the vial.

Peptides Weekly recently re‑entered Substack’s Top 100 Rising in Health & Wellness, landing just two places behind Dr Kristi Sawicki—whose work on safe access and pricing I’ve linked to in discussions about whether greater FDA involvement will push peptide prices up or down. What makes a research peptide vendor trustworthy?

A flawless record would be the obvious answer. Yet in a complex and lightly regulated supply chain, perfection may not be a realistic test. Manufacturing failures occur, documentation can be wrong, and even long-established suppliers can become associated with products that do not contain what their labels claim.

The more revealing test may be what happens next.

Does the vendor acknowledge the problem, communicate with customers, replace affected products and support independent verification? Or does it deny, deflect or disappear?

That question sits at the centre of Vendor Files #003, which examines Walker Chemical—better known as WKC—and what its recent quality-control episode reveals about trust, accountability and loyalty in the research peptide market.

Vendor Files #002: My First Leap Beyond Local Resellers

This third instalment is different. Rather than introducing another supplier, it revisits one that has featured prominently throughout Peptides Weekly over the past month.

My earlier reporting focused on what happened. This article asks what should happen afterwards—and whether a supplier can remain trustworthy after a serious quality failure.

To explore that question, I have chosen WKC: a long-standing Chinese research peptide supplier with a sizeable community following, a reputation for highly competitive pricing and a substantial presence across the GLP-1 Forum, Telegram and other researcher communities.

Important Identity Clarification

This article concerns the long-standing Chinese supplier commonly known as Walker Chemical or WKC, whose Telegram community is approaching 5,500 members.

A website operating as walkerchemicals.store is not affiliated with the Walker Chemical (WKC) discussed in this article. The WKC examined here does not operate an official website. Because another business uses similar branding, readers should not assume that every website or contact using the Walker Chemical name relates to the same supplier.

The verified supplier, ordering channel and contact details for the WKC discussed in this article are provided in the premium supplier profile at the end of this Vendor File.

1. Why WKC Is a Revealing Case Study

WKC is an unusually revealing subject for a Vendor File because it combines three characteristics that do not often appear together: a long operating history, substantial customer loyalty and some of the lowest pricing I have encountered among direct Chinese suppliers.

Its Telegram community is approaching 5,500 members, and before it was “nuked” its Discord had around 10,000 members. The supplier features on the GLP-1 Forum and has been discussed regularly across other researcher groups. Before the recent episode, many customers regarded WKC as an established and dependable low-cost source rather than an unknown vendor still attempting to build credibility.

That reputation made the events of late May and early June 2026 particularly significant.

Independent testing began identifying several incorrectly labelled or “bunk” peptides associated with products shipped during that period. As more results emerged, discussion spread rapidly across its Discord server, Telegram group, Reddit and other online forums. Laboratory reports and first-hand accounts became mixed with screenshots, speculation and increasingly polarised opinions.

Some researchers concluded that WKC could no longer be trusted. Others argued that the pattern appeared to extend beyond a single vendor and might reflect a wider manufacturing failure further upstream in the Chinese grey-market supply chain.

The first form of toxicity concerned the products themselves: incorrectly identified peptides and the potential risks created when a vial does not contain what its label claims.

The second concerned the community response, as verified laboratory findings became mixed with rumours, personal attacks and claims that often travelled faster than the evidence.

That distinction remains important. Product failures deserve scrutiny, but so do the narratives that form around them.

This Vendor File therefore does not attempt to repeat every allegation or revisit the full chronology. Instead, it asks what happened after the problem was recognised—and whether the response provides a legitimate basis for renewed confidence.

2. From Quality Failure to Corrective Action

When my original investigation was published, the central question was whether a genuine quality problem existed.

One month later, the more useful question is how WKC has responded to it.

WKC replaced the affected products, including my own KLOW80. A fellow customer then independently submitted one of the replacement vials to Freedom Diagnostics for analysis.

The resulting Certificate of Analysis confirmed the identities of GHK-Cu, KPV, BPC-157 and thymosin beta-4 by LC-MS, reported 99.42% overall purity and provided quantitative measurements for each component within the blend.

One favourable result cannot validate an entire replacement programme. It does, however, provide something more meaningful than reassurance from the supplier alone: independently generated evidence that at least one replacement sample contained the compounds claimed.

This matters because replacement and remediation are not the same thing.

Replacing affected peptides (and offering refunds as an alternative) resolves the immediate customer-service problem. Demonstrating that the replacement has been properly manufactured begins to address the underlying loss of trust.

WKC has also said that it expects to publish Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for the replacement batches by the end of July. At the time of publication, those reports are therefore due at any time but have not yet formed part of this assessment.

The updated COAs should offer another useful point of comparison with the earlier affected products. They may also indicate whether WKC’s corrective measures have translated into consistently improved batches rather than one encouraging independent result.

The wider context has also become more nuanced.

While investigating quality concerns across the Chinese grey-market supply chain, independent peptide researcher Krysia identified several other Chinese vendors that appeared to have encountered similar “bunk” products. That does not remove WKC’s responsibility to its own customers, but it raises the possibility that the original failure occurred further upstream through a shared manufacturer or production facility.

One of Krysia’s observations captures the central tension particularly well:

“No vendor is immune to selling bunk kits, but what differentiates vendors is how they deal with them.”

If perfection is not a realistic benchmark, response becomes the real test.

Introduction: A New Kind of Medical Professional

Every week, some of the biggest names in peptide education upload hours of free content to YouTube. Ten of those “peptide doctors” now reach more than 1.2 million subscribers, shaping how millions of people first encounter compounds like BPC-157, CJC-1295 and Retatrutide.

At first glance, the business model looks obvious: free videos, monetised by ads. That is part of the story, but it is rarely the whole story. After examining the public businesses behind these creators, a different picture emerges. For most of them, YouTube is not the product. It is the front door to something larger: clinics, courses, memberships, physician certifications, consulting, conferences, supplement dispensaries or coaching programmes.

This points to a broader shift in medicine. These clinicians and scientists are no longer only practitioners or researchers. They are also media personalities, educators, entrepreneurs and community-builders whose expertise can reach millions of viewers rather than hundreds of patients. The article is therefore less about YouTube itself than about the rise of a new professional role: the doctor-creator.

From Doctor to Doctor-Creator

For most of modern medicine, doctors worked within hospitals, clinics, universities and research institutes. Today, many also operate in a parallel public arena built around platforms, personal brands and direct audience relationships.

That shift has changed how people encounter peptide science. Instead of starting with a journal article or specialist consultation, many now begin with a YouTube search, a long-form explainer or a livestream Q&A.

That change creates obvious educational benefits. It also creates new incentive structures. A creator can now earn from advertising, YouTube Premium revenue share, channel memberships, Super Chats, affiliate commissions, paid communities, digital courses, certifications and clinical services all at once. Understanding those layered incentives is not about assuming bad faith. It is about understanding the ecosystem in which peptide education is now produced.

Methodology

This investigation draws on publicly available information from official websites, YouTube channels, online course platforms, published biographies and advertised services. Where membership fees, course prices or programme costs were publicly listed at the time of writing, those figures are included. Where pricing was not publicly available, the article says so explicitly rather than estimating income or annual turnover.

The focus is on professional ecosystems rather than personal wealth. Knowing that a course costs US$499 reveals nothing about how many people purchase it. Knowing that a clinic exists says nothing about patient numbers. The aim is not to determine who earns the most. It is to understand how influential peptide educators have built sustainable platforms around their expertise.

The Top 10 at a Glance

Where YouTube Monetisation Fits In

YouTube monetisation is one important layer in this ecosystem. Most creators in this Top 10 appear eligible for the YouTube Partner Program, which allows channels to earn from ads and YouTube Premium once they reach 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 valid public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million public Shorts views in 90 days.

YouTube also offers direct fan-funding tools, including Super Chats, Super Thanks and channel memberships. Channel memberships can be offered across tiers from US$0.99 to US$49.99 per month, with the creator receiving 70% of membership revenue after YouTube’s platform cut. In practice, this means the platform itself can provide a baseline recurring income stream even before any viewer buys an external course, joins a mastermind or books a consultation.

That said, YouTube monetisation rarely appears to be the primary economic engine for the creators examined here. The larger value often sits off-platform, in clinics, certifications, memberships, communities or coaching programmes, while YouTube functions simultaneously as a discovery channel, trust-building mechanism and low-friction revenue layer.

Five Educational Ecosystems

All ten creators publish educational content, but the first five account for most of the combined audience and illustrate five distinct ways of turning attention into sustainable work.

1. Dr Trevor Bachmeyer — The Entrepreneurial Ecosystem

With almost 390,000 subscribers, Trevor Bachmeyer has built one of the most commercially diversified ecosystems in peptide education. His channel directs viewers toward his research peptide shop, EliteBiogenix, and other projects, including Smashwerx, The Unbreakable Podcast and multiple membership programmes.

The flagship is The Black Card, advertised at US$24,997 per year and positioned around weekly coaching, protocol libraries, lab interpretation, imaging reviews and private community access. The Unbreakable Mastermind adds lower tiers at US$750 for three months, US$1,997 for annual membership and US$4,997 for lifetime access. In this model, ad revenue or any native YouTube monetisation is only the base layer. The real economics lie in converting trust and attention into premium access and community.

**Primary ecosystem:** Premium memberships, coaching and entrepreneurial ventures.

2. Dr Jones, DC — Bringing the Clinic Online

Dr Jones exemplifies a more traditional clinical model. His videos familiarise prospective patients with his philosophy before they ever contact his practice, covering GLP-1 medications, peptide therapy, testosterone optimisation, metabolic health and weight management.

Rather than emphasising memberships or digital products, the public pathway is a discovery call that may lead to personalised clinical programmes involving hormone optimisation, peptide therapy, laboratory testing, nutritional guidance and ongoing supervision. No public programme pricing appears to be advertised on the official site. Here, YouTube appears to extend the consulting room rather than replace it.

**Primary ecosystem:** Clinical practice supported by public education.

Dr Ashley Froese — Structured Medical Education

Dr Ashley Froese has built her platform around structured education. Her videos focus on mechanisms, clinical data and translating evidence into practice.

The core offer is the Peptide Mastery Course, publicly advertised at US$499 with a free introductory module. She also recommends laboratory testing through disclosed partners and uses affiliate links with explicit transparency about commissions. The format places her closer to continuing professional development than to personality-led influencer marketing.

Comparable online peptide education offers help put that figure in context. SSRP’s digital “Peptide Therapy Foundations” course is listed at US$99 for Fellows, US$199 for Members and US$299 for non-members, while MedBridge Global’s peptide therapy certification bundle is listed at US$1,399. Not every laboratory needs to provide every service.

The relevant capability depends on the question being asked.

A laboratory focused on peptide identity and assay may be entirely suitable for one investigation but inadequate for another involving contamination, sterility or stability.

3. Researcher Experience

Accessibility can determine whether independent testing is practical.

This category considers:

• whether individuals may submit samples;

• the clarity of the submission process;

• reported turnaround times;

• ease of accessing results;

• general researcher accessibility.

Some laboratories are designed around independent researchers. Others primarily serve manufacturers, pharmaceutical businesses or institutional clients.

4. Transparency

The matrix considers:

• public COA databases;

• QR-code verification;

• searchable batch or report information;

• publicly accessible analytical reports.

These tools allow researchers to authenticate results rather than accepting vendor-supplied documents at face value.

Transparency does not guarantee that every test is comprehensive. However, it makes it easier to establish whether the report itself is genuine.

5. Market Presence

Vendor Adoption reflects how frequently a laboratory’s reports appear across publicly visible peptide suppliers and research communities.

It should not be interpreted as a measure of scientific excellence.

A technically advanced laboratory may work with fewer clients, focus on specialist analysis or choose not to promote its reports publicly.

However, adoption provides useful context about a laboratory’s practical influence within the current market.

Reading the Matrix

An empty field or question mark should not be interpreted as criticism.

Many laboratories do not publish every capability, credential, price or operational detail. Others use different terminology to describe similar services.

Where reliable public information could not be established, uncertainty has been recorded rather than replaced with speculation.

This approach will remain central to future editions of the report.

A Note on Vendor Adoption

Vendor Adoption asks a straightforward question:

How frequently does this laboratory’s work appear within the research peptide market?

The rating reflects the visibility of laboratory reports across public vendor websites and research communities.

It does not reward popularity for its own sake, nor does it represent scientific superiority.

Instead, it provides an indication of how widely encountered and practically influential a laboratory has become.

Trevor Bachmeyer: The Most Divisive Figure in the Peptide Space?

One name came up more than any other in reader feedback: Trevor Bachmeyer.

Love him or dislike him, it’s hard to ignore his influence.

Trevor, a former chiropractor, combines confident communication, ambitious health claims and a compelling vision of human optimisation. For many people, he’s the person who first introduced them to peptides.

His content blends:

• detailed explanations of peptide mechanisms and protocols

• strong opinions on health, performance and longevity

• bold claims about what’s possible through optimisation

That combination has earned him a fiercely loyal audience, while also attracting criticism from clinicians and sceptics who question whether some claims go beyond the available evidence.

Reader opinion couldn’t have been more divided:

• “The GOAT” — one of the best communicators in the peptide space.

• “The Great Exaggerator” — someone whose confidence sometimes outpaces the evidence.

My deep dive wasn’t about deciding which camp is right.

It was about asking a bigger question:

How do you separate an exceptional communicator from exceptional evidence?

That question became the foundation for:

The Phenomenon

If you’ve spent any time researching peptides online, there’s a good chance you’ve come across Trevor Bachmeyer.

As of July 2026, his YouTube channel has 390,782 subscribers, 37,545,140 lifetime views, 1,685 videos, and has been active for more than 11 years, making it the largest dedicated peptide-focused educational channel on YouTube by subscriber count.

That’s precisely why Trevor Bachmeyer matters.

Whether you admire him or disagree with him, his influence is difficult to ignore. Every week, thousands of people watch his videos on BPC-157, MOTS-c, GLP-1s, inflammation, metabolism, longevity and chronic disease. His ideas are shared across Reddit, Telegram, Facebook groups and Discord communities, where his recommendations are debated almost as frequently as the peptides themselves.

Last week, I published a short Peptides Weekly note ranking the Top 10 Peptide YouTube Doctors by subscriber count.

I expected readers to debate who I’d missed or whether someone deserved to be higher on the list.

Instead, almost every conversation came back to one person.

Trevor Bachmeyer.

Some readers described him as the GOAT—the most influential educator in the peptide world.

Others urged caution, pointing me towards controversies surrounding his credentials, business model, scientific claims and disciplinary history.

The reactions couldn’t have been more different.

That alone made him worth investigating.

This article isn’t intended to convince you to like Trevor Bachmeyer, nor is it an attempt to discredit him.

Instead, it’s an attempt to answer a much simpler question:

Who is Trevor Bachmeyer, and why has he become one of the most influential—and divisive—figures in the peptide world?

Why I decided to investigate

This isn’t a story I would have written three years ago.

Like many people, I’d barely heard the word “peptide.”

That changed when my mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness.

Faced with limited treatment options, I found myself doing what countless families do when conventional medicine has reached its limits: reading scientific papers, listening to podcasts, searching forums and watching YouTube.

I wasn’t looking for miracles.

I was looking for understanding.

That search eventually led me into the world of peptides.

And, like many newcomers, it eventually led me to Trevor Bachmeyer.

I watched his videos voraciously, particularly those on dementia, cancer, mitochondrial health and what he describes as “reversing” chronic illness.

His presentations were confident, engaging and easy to follow. He had a remarkable ability to connect inflammation, metabolism, mitochondria and peptide biology into a single, coherent narrative. Whether discussing BPC-157, MOTS-c or GLP-1s, he rarely sounded uncertain.

Looking back, I understand why his content resonates with so many people.

When you’re searching for answers, confidence is reassuring.

Whether it’s justified is a separate question.

Why Trevor matters

Trevor Bachmeyer isn’t simply another health creator on YouTube.

He has built an ecosystem.

Alongside his YouTube channel, he hosts the Unbreakable Podcast, maintains a substantial social media presence, publicly identifies himself as Founder and CEO of EliteBiogenix, a company that sells research peptides, and markets The Black Card, a premium coaching programme currently advertised at US$24,997 per year.

In other words, Trevor isn’t just creating content.

He’s built a personal brand around health optimisation, peptides and performance.

His central message is remarkably consistent.

Modern medicine, he argues, spends too much time treating symptoms and not enough time addressing the biological processes that drive chronic disease. Throughout his videos he returns repeatedly to three themes: systemic inflammation, insulin resistance and mitochondrial dysfunction, presenting peptides as tools capable of targeting these underlying mechanisms.

It’s a compelling framework.

It’s also one that has attracted both devoted supporters and equally passionate critics.

Over the next few sections, I’ll examine Trevor’s background, his credentials, his scientific claims, his business model and the controversies that continue to surround him.

Not to decide whether he’s a hero or a villain.

But to understand how one former chiropractor became one of the most influential voices in the peptide world.

Part 2 — The Man Behind the Brand

Who is Trevor Bachmeyer?

For someone with such a large online presence, Trevor Bachmeyer’s professional background isn’t always immediately obvious.

Most viewers simply know him as “Dr Trevor.”

His YouTube videos, podcast appearances and social media content project the image of someone deeply immersed in health, longevity and peptide science. He speaks with confidence, uses medical terminology fluently and presents complex biological concepts in a way that’s accessible to a broad audience.

It’s easy to assume he’s a medical doctor.

He isn’t.

Trevor Bachmeyer trained as a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC). He is not an MD, DO or PhD biomedical researcher. That distinction matters—not because chiropractors lack expertise, but because readers deserve to understand the perspective from which someone is speaking.

A chiropractor’s education is fundamentally different from that of a physician specialising in endocrinology, oncology or metabolic medicine. Those differences don’t automatically invalidate Trevor’s views on peptides, but they do provide important context when evaluating claims about complex diseases, longevity and experimental therapeutics.

How that distinction is communicated also varies between creators.

For example, Dr Jones DC, another popular chiropractor and peptide educator on YouTube, prominently includes “DC” in both his channel name and branding, making his professional background immediately clear. Trevor, by contrast, generally presents himself simply as “Dr Trevor Bachmeyer”, without routinely emphasising that his doctorate is in chiropractic.

His own website goes a step further. On the “Who Is Dr Trevor Bachmeyer?” page, he describes himself as a “physician, speaker, podcast host and founder of The Black Card, Smashwerx, Elite Biogenix, and five other successful global companies.” Given his publicly documented chiropractic qualification, that description is likely to prompt questions from readers about what is meant by the term “physician” in this context.

One criticism that appears repeatedly online is that many viewers don’t immediately recognise this distinction. While Trevor is entirely entitled to use the title “Doctor”, some critics argue that his branding can lead audiences to assume he is a medical physician rather than a chiropractor, particularly given the breadth of topics he covers, including cancer, dementia, metabolic disease and peptide therapeutics.

The issue, then, isn’t whether Trevor is entitled to call himself “Doctor”—he is.

The issue is whether viewers immediately understand what kind of doctor he is.

Reinvention

Trevor’s current public identity is very different from where his career began.

Before becoming one of YouTube’s most recognisable peptide educators, he was well known in the CrossFit and mobility community through SmashweRx, producing content on movement, rehabilitation and athletic performance.

Over time, that focus broadened dramatically.

Instead of helping people move better, Trevor increasingly began talking about helping people live better.

Recovery became regeneration.

Injury became inflammation.

Mobility became longevity.

Today, his videos cover subjects as diverse as cancer metabolism, Alzheimer’s disease, GLP-1 medicines, mitochondrial biology, peptide stacks, fasting, hormones and ageing.

Viewed over time, it’s a remarkable transformation.

Whether you see it as a natural evolution or an expansion beyond his original expertise probably depends on your perspective.

Either way, it explains why opinions about Trevor are so divided.

The Trevor Bachmeyer framework

Every influential educator develops a framework—a way of simplifying a complicated subject into something memorable.

Trevor’s framework is one of the reasons he’s become so successful.

Across hundreds of videos, podcasts and interviews, he returns to the same central idea.

According to Trevor, most chronic disease can be traced back to three fundamental biological problems:

• Systemic inflammation

• Insulin resistance

• Mitochondrial dysfunction, which he often describes as “ATP bankruptcy.”

Everything else, he argues, flows from these three failures.

Fix the underlying biology and many chronic conditions begin to improve.

It’s an elegant model.

It’s also easy to remember.

Instead of presenting viewers with hundreds of pathways, genes and disease mechanisms, Trevor reduces modern health to a handful of interconnected processes.

For someone encountering peptide biology for the first time, that’s incredibly attractive.

Complexity becomes simplicity.

Confusion becomes clarity.

And peptides become logical tools rather than mysterious research chemicals.

Whether the science is as straightforward as the framework suggests is another matter entirely.

The “Big Three”

If Trevor has a signature message, it’s probably what he calls his “Big Three” peptides.

These appear repeatedly throughout his content and have become almost synonymous with his brand.

The first is BPC-157, which Trevor describes as one of the most versatile regenerative peptides available. He frequently discusses its potential effects on gut health, connective tissue, inflammation and recovery, and has described it as a peptide that many people could benefit from using long term.

The second is TB-500 (or thymosin beta-4), which he presents as a complementary recovery peptide involved in tissue repair, wound healing and regeneration.

The third is MOTS-c, a mitochondrial peptide that Trevor frequently describes as a metabolic “game changer”, capable of improving cellular energy production and insulin sensitivity while addressing what he sees as one of the root causes of chronic disease.

Together, these peptides form the backbone of much of his educational content.

Over time, he has expanded beyond them to discuss compounds including GHK-Cu, DSIP, Epitalon, Kisspeptin-10, CJC-1295 and numerous GLP-1 medicines.

But the Big Three remain central to the Trevor Bachmeyer philosophy.

A compelling story

One reason Trevor’s content resonates is that he rarely talks about peptides as isolated compounds.

Instead, he tells a story.

Inflammation damages tissues.

Mitochondria stop producing energy efficiently.

Insulin resistance develops.

The body struggles to repair itself.

Peptides, he argues, can interrupt that downward spiral by supporting repair, restoring signalling pathways and improving the body’s own regenerative capacity.

It’s an appealing narrative because it connects multiple health conditions through a common biological language.

Rather than discussing arthritis, obesity, cardiovascular disease and neurodegeneration separately, Trevor presents them as different expressions of the same underlying dysfunction.

That style of communication is enormously effective.

It gives viewers a coherent framework for understanding health.

It also creates a sense that there are practical interventions capable of changing the trajectory.

Where the evidence becomes more complicated

This is where the conversation becomes more nuanced.

Many of the biological mechanisms Trevor describes are real.

Inflammation plays an important role in chronic disease.

Insulin resistance contributes to numerous metabolic disorders.

Mitochondrial dysfunction has been implicated in ageing and a wide range of diseases.

Those ideas are well supported within biomedical research.

Where debate begins is in the next step.

Trevor often moves from discussing biological plausibility to discussing therapeutic outcomes with considerable confidence.

That’s a subtle but important distinction.

A peptide may demonstrate promising effects in laboratory experiments or animal models.

It may even show encouraging signals in early human studies.

That doesn’t necessarily mean those benefits have been established in routine clinical practice.

For example, BPC-157 has generated significant interest because of preclinical findings related to tissue repair and gastrointestinal healing. I say that recognising my own bias: I believe BPC-157 transformed a knee problem I’d lived with for more than 20 years. Even so, my experience is an anecdote, not evidence, and robust human clinical data remain limited.

The same is true of TB-500, where much of the enthusiasm stems from animal research and mechanistic understanding rather than large, well-controlled clinical trials.

MOTS-c is perhaps even more striking. Its role in mitochondrial biology makes it scientifically fascinating, but human data remain comparatively sparse, particularly when compared with the confidence with which it is sometimes discussed online.

None of this means Trevor is necessarily wrong.

It means that promising biology and proven clinical benefit are not the same thing.

That distinction runs through almost every debate surrounding peptides today.

And it’s one of the recurring themes that emerged as I worked through dozens of Trevor’s videos.

He is exceptionally good at explaining why a peptide might work.

The much harder question is how much evidence we have that it actually does.

Part 3

The Controversies, the Criticism and the Bigger Questions

The more I researched Trevor Bachmeyer, the more I realised something.

This isn’t a story about one controversy.

It’s about several very different controversies that have gradually become intertwined.

Some relate to his professional background.

Some relate to the science.

Others relate to his business model.

Individually, none of them tells the whole story.

Taken together, however, they help explain why Trevor Bachmeyer has become one of the most polarising figures in the peptide world.

From CrossFit to peptides

Before Trevor Bachmeyer became one of the internet’s best-known peptide educators, he had already built a profile in the CrossFit community through SmashweRx, producing content on mobility, rehabilitation and athletic performance.

That chapter of his career also included controversy. In 2017, CrossFit disqualified him from the CrossFit Games season and imposed a four-year ban after determining that his Open Workout 17.5 video submission had been edited to misrepresent his performance. Bachmeyer later issued a public apology, describing it as a “bad decision.”

On its own, the incident tells us very little about the accuracy of his current views on peptides. It does, however, illustrate something that has become a recurring theme throughout his public career: Trevor Bachmeyer has rarely been a figure who attracts indifference. Whether discussing CrossFit, chiropractic, peptides or longevity, he has consistently generated both devoted supporters and vocal critics.

The disciplinary record

One issue appears repeatedly whenever Trevor Bachmeyer’s name is discussed online: his chiropractic licence.

Public records from the California Board of Chiropractic Examiners show that, effective 28 September 2017, Trevor Bachmeyer’s chiropractic licence (DC 29377) was revoked, the revocation stayed, and he was placed on five years’ probation.

According to the Board’s disciplinary order, the action was based on findings that included failures to maintain and provide patient records, failure to ensure accurate billing of chiropractic services, gross negligence, repeated negligent acts, incompetence, conduct endangering the health, welfare and safety of the public, acts involving moral turpitude, dishonesty or corruption, participation in fraud or misrepresentation, use of an inappropriate title, and failure to notify the Board of a practice address.

Three years later, in July 2020, the Board revoked Bachmeyer’s licence after determining that he had failed to comply with multiple conditions of that probation. According to the Board, these included failing to provide verification of continuing education, failing to produce patient records, and failing to comply with several other probation requirements.

These matters are part of the public record.

They do not, by themselves, determine whether Trevor Bachmeyer’s current views on peptides are right or wrong, nor do they invalidate every argument he makes.

They do, however, form part of the broader picture when assessing the background of someone who has built a substantial public profile around health education and professional authority. For that reason alone, I believe they are relevant context for readers.

Confidence versus evidence

Watching Trevor’s videos, one characteristic becomes immediately obvious.

He is extraordinarily confident.

That confidence is almost certainly one of the reasons he has built such a large audience.

People don’t watch Trevor because he spends twenty minutes explaining statistical uncertainty.

They watch because he gives answers.

His explanations are clear.

His frameworks are memorable.

His conclusions are decisive.

The challenge is that peptide science is often much less certain than the presentation suggests.

Throughout this investigation, I found myself returning to the same question:

Where does promising biology end and established clinical evidence begin?

That distinction matters.

Many peptides discussed online—including BPC-157, TB-500 and MOTS-c—have generated fascinating laboratory and animal data.

Some have early human studies.

Very few have the kind of large, long-term randomised clinical trials that would normally underpin confident therapeutic recommendations across multiple diseases.

That doesn’t mean the peptides don’t work.

It means the evidence is still evolving.

One of the recurring criticisms levelled at Trevor is that he sometimes speaks about experimental compounds with a level of certainty that goes beyond the current clinical evidence.

Whether readers agree with that criticism is ultimately for them to decide.

But I think it’s an important question to keep asking—not just of Trevor, but of anyone working in this space.

The business model

Another reason Trevor attracts criticism is that education and commerce sit very close together.

Today, his ecosystem appears to include:

• YouTube

• The Unbreakable Podcast

• EliteBiogenix

• The Black Card

• Speaking and consulting

None of that is unusual.

Many successful educators build businesses around their expertise.

The important question isn’t whether Trevor earns money.

It’s how he earns it.

Perhaps the most striking example is The Black Card.

At the time of writing, the programme advertises membership at US$24,997 per year, promising direct access to Trevor, weekly coaching calls, protocols, community access and ongoing education.

That immediately raises two legitimate questions.

First, who is the programme designed for?

Second, what exactly is being sold?

Is it information?

Access?

Accountability?

Personal coaching?

Hope?

Probably a combination of all four.

Premium coaching isn’t inherently problematic.

Nor is charging premium prices.

But when health information is closely connected with high-ticket products, readers should naturally consider how commercial incentives may influence messaging.

That isn’t unique to Trevor.

It’s true across much of the online health industry.

The criticism from within the peptide community

One of the more surprising discoveries during this research was that many of Trevor’s strongest critics aren’t sceptics of peptides.

They’re peptide enthusiasts.

Some argue that he oversimplifies complex biology.

Others disagree with specific protocols, dosing strategies or peptide combinations.

Still others object to the commercialisation of educational content or question the pricing of products associated with his wider business ecosystem.

At the same time, his supporters make an equally compelling case.

Many credit Trevor with introducing them to peptide science in the first place.

Others say his content encouraged them to take better care of their health, lose weight or become more interested in reading the scientific literature for themselves.

That’s why I think reducing the debate to “Trevor is right” or “Trevor is wrong” misses the point.

The more interesting question is why intelligent people, looking at the same content, reach such different conclusions.

My assessment

After spending many hours researching Trevor Bachmeyer, I understand both sides far better than I did when I started.

I understand why people admire him.

He’s an exceptional communicator.

He makes complicated biology understandable.

He challenges conventional thinking.

He encourages people to become more engaged with their own health.

Those are genuine strengths.

I also understand why others urge caution.

The disciplinary record is a matter of public record.

Some claims appear more confident than the current evidence would justify.

The line between education, personal branding and commercial activity can sometimes feel blurred.

For me, however, the biggest lesson isn’t really about Trevor.

It’s about the internet.

Increasingly, we don’t learn about health from textbooks or journals first.

We learn from YouTube.

From podcasts.

From Substack.

From social media.

That’s neither inherently good nor inherently bad.

But it does place a greater responsibility on all of us—not just creators—to ask difficult questions, check sources and distinguish between compelling stories and compelling evidence.

Final thoughts

When I began deep researching peptides because of my mother’s illness, I wasn’t looking for influencers.

I was looking for answers.

Trevor Bachmeyer happened to be one of the first people I found.

He won’t be the last.

Whether you regard him as a visionary educator, an effective marketer, a controversial entrepreneur or some combination of all three, one thing is difficult to dispute:

He has changed the conversation around peptides for hundreds of thousands of people.

Perhaps that’s why opinions about him are so polarised.

He isn’t simply talking about peptides.

He’s shaping how people think about them.

And in a field where information increasingly influences decisions as much as the science itself, understanding the people behind that information has never been more important.

The hardest decision I made after entering the research peptide world wasn’t deciding which peptide to buy.

It was deciding where to buy it.

Looking back, I don’t think that dilemma gets discussed nearly enough. We spend a lot of time comparing suppliers, prices, laboratory testing and Certificates of Analysis (COAs), but very little time talking about the journey almost every researcher goes through before they ever place their first order.

Mine certainly wasn’t a straight line.

For the best part of three years I stayed firmly within what I now think of as the “safe” end of the peptide market. My journey began with approved peptide medicines obtained through conventional healthcare channels, and when I eventually became curious about research peptides I still wasn’t ready to order directly from overseas. Like many people, I bought from local resellers.

At the time, that felt like the obvious decision.

In hindsight, I still think it was.

Why local resellers remain so popular

Every few weeks I receive a variation of the same question.

“If most research peptides ultimately come from China, why doesn’t everyone just buy directly from China?”

It’s a fair question.

The answer, I think, is that people aren’t simply paying for peptides.

They’re paying for convenience.

They’re paying for familiarity.

And, perhaps most importantly, they’re paying for peace of mind.

Take delivery, for example.

Many domestic suppliers offer next-day or 48-hour shipping. You place an order, receive a tracking number a few hours later and, more often than not, the parcel arrives before you’ve had much time to think about it.

Ordering directly from overseas is a very different experience.

Even when everything goes smoothly, delivery may take one, two or usually several weeks, depending on the courier, customs clearance and the destination country. For anyone used to Amazon-like convenience, that’s a very different mindset.

Then there’s customs.

Buying from a local reseller generally means you don’t have to think about border inspections, import procedures or whether a parcel might spend several days waiting to clear customs. International shipments inevitably introduce more uncertainty. Depending on the country, they may also attract import duties, taxes or courier handling charges, all of which need to be factored into the overall cost.

Payment can present another hurdle.

Most local resellers accept familiar debit and credit cards through recognised payment providers, making the checkout process feel much like buying from any other online retailer.

Ordering directly from overseas isn’t always that straightforward.

Some suppliers ask for international bank transfers. Others operate exclusively through cryptocurrency. Even where card payments are available, the process may involve additional steps or overseas payment processors that banks occasionally treat with greater caution. In some cases, paying by card also attracts a surcharge.

Cost is another consideration that’s often overlooked.

While buying closer to the source may reduce the price per vial, overseas suppliers frequently operate minimum order values that may make smaller purchases uneconomical. Add international shipping charges, possible import costs and payment fees, and the overall saving may be less dramatic than many newcomers expect.

Communication also changes.

Questions that might be answered within an hour by a domestic reseller can become overnight conversations once time zones enter the equation. Language differences, cultural differences and geographical distance don’t necessarily prevent good customer service, but they can make resolving problems feel considerably more daunting if something goes wrong.

Verification is perhaps the biggest challenge of all.

A local reseller usually has a familiar-looking website, domestic contact details and a business presence that feels easier to understand. Whether those things genuinely reduce risk is open to debate, but they do make due diligence feel more manageable.

Assessing an overseas supplier is rarely as straightforward.

Researchers often find themselves relying on community recommendations, Telegram discussions, Reddit threads, Discord groups and the experiences of people they’ve never met. Separating genuine feedback from marketing, misinformation or vested interests isn’t always easy.

When you put all of those factors together, it’s easy to understand why so many researchers choose to stay with local resellers.

They’re not simply paying for a product.

They’re paying for speed.

They’re paying for convenience.

They’re paying for familiarity.

And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

The question I couldn’t ignore

The more time I spent researching the peptide industry, however, the more one thought kept coming back to me.

If so many research peptides ultimately originate in China, what exactly was I paying for by introducing another business into the supply chain?

That isn’t intended as a criticism of local resellers, including Peptides Weekly’s own research peptide fulfilment arm, Archangel Labs.

Many provide an excellent service.

They absorb many of the practical difficulties I’ve just described and, for many researchers, they’re unquestionably the right choice.

But I realised something.

If I genuinely wanted to understand the research peptide marketplace—not just comment on it from the sidelines—I eventually needed to experience what happened further upstream.

Not because I expected it to be cheaper.

Not because I assumed it would be better.

But because I wanted to understand the market as it actually exists.

That meant stepping outside the environment I’d become comfortable with and placing my very first order directly with a supplier in China.

At the time, it felt like crossing an invisible line.

Looking back, it wasn’t really about buying peptides.

It was about overcoming uncertainty.

And that’s where this Vendor File begins.

Looking for my first overseas supplier

Once I’d decided that I wanted to order directly from China, I assumed the difficult part was behind me. In reality, it was only just beginning.

Finding Chinese peptide suppliers wasn’t particularly difficult. Within several evenings I had accumulated a long list of websites, recommendations from Reddit, names shared in Telegram groups and suggestions from Discord communities. The real challenge wasn’t discovering suppliers—it was working out which ones were genuine and how to compare them in any meaningful way.

That was probably the biggest culture shock.

When you’re buying almost anything online today, you expect to be able to visit a website, browse the catalogue, compare prices, read reviews and decide whether the business looks credible before committing to a purchase. That isn’t how most of the overseas research peptide market operates.

Some suppliers had professional-looking websites with extensive catalogues, while others had little more than a product list and a contact form. Even among those with well-designed websites, one thing was conspicuously absent: transparency.

Very few published comprehensive pricing information.

Instead, the usual process was to identify the products you were interested in, make contact with a member of the sales team—most commonly through WhatsApp, although sometimes by email—and request a price list or quotation. Only then could you begin comparing costs, discussing shipping options or understanding the payment process.

At first, I found that surprisingly uncomfortable.

Not because anyone had behaved unprofessionally, but because it was so different from what I was used to. Rather than independently researching and comparing suppliers at my own pace, I felt as though I needed to begin a conversation before I had enough information to decide whether I even wanted to do business with them.

That lack of transparency made due diligence considerably more difficult.

How do you compare suppliers when prices aren’t publicly available? How do you assess value when every quotation requires a separate conversation? How do you know whether one supplier’s pricing is competitive if another structures discounts differently or only provides information after you’ve introduced yourself?

The more suppliers I looked at, the more I realised that I wasn’t simply searching for the lowest price.

I was searching for confidence.

I wanted a supplier whose catalogue I could browse without asking for permission, whose documentation was readily available before I placed an order, and whose ordering process felt structured enough that I could understand what would happen next without exchanging dozens of messages first.

None of those things prove that a supplier is trustworthy.

A polished website tells you nothing about what’s inside a vial, and published COAs should never be accepted at face value without appropriate scrutiny.

But when you’re placing your first overseas order, those things do influence how approachable a supplier feels. They reduce uncertainty, make comparisons easier and allow you to conduct much of your own research before ever speaking to a salesperson.

Looking back, I don’t think I was searching for the “best” supplier.

I was searching for the supplier that made taking that first step feel manageable.

There’s an important difference.

As I worked my way through more and more suppliers, I gradually realised that I was evaluating them very differently from how I’d expected.

I’d assumed price would be the deciding factor. After all, one of the main reasons researchers consider buying closer to the source is to reduce costs.

Instead, I found myself looking for something else entirely.

I was looking for familiarity.

That probably sounds strange in the context of ordering research peptides from the other side of the world, but it’s exactly what I was doing.

The more suppliers I looked at, the more I appreciated how opaque much of the market could be. Finding Chinese peptide suppliers wasn’t especially difficult. Finding enough reliable information to compare them objectively was another matter altogether.

When you’re buying almost anything online today, you expect to browse a website, compare products, check prices, read reviews and make an informed decision before ever speaking to somebody.

That isn’t how much of the overseas research peptide market operates.

Did the website answer most of my questions, or did every enquiry require another message? Did the ordering process feel organised and professional?

None of those things prove a supplier is trustworthy.

A polished website tells you nothing about what’s inside a vial. Published documentation should never be accepted uncritically, and a smooth ordering process is no substitute for proper due diligence or independent testing.

But first impressions do matter.

When you’re placing your very first overseas order, every unanswered question increases uncertainty, while every unnecessary step adds a little more friction to the experience. Equally, every piece of useful information that’s made available upfront allows you to make a more informed decision before you’ve exchanged a single message with the supplier.

Looking back, I don’t think I was searching for the “best” supplier.

I was searching for the one that made taking that first step feel manageable.

There’s an important difference.

Four orders rather than one

One thing I was determined not to do was draw conclusions from a single transaction.

Anyone can have one good experience.

Equally, anyone can have one disappointing one.

Neither tells you very much about consistency.

Instead, I found myself returning to the same supplier several times over a relatively short period at the beginning of 2026.

Across four separate orders placed over the course of roughly a month, I purchased a broad range of research peptides, including Retatrutide in multiple strengths, Tirzepatide, KPV, MOTS-C, SS-31, Semax, Selank, Thymosin Alpha-1 and CJC-1295 no DAC combined with Ipamorelin.

That wasn’t part of a carefully designed evaluation.

I was simply purchasing the peptides I wanted to research at the time.

In hindsight, those four orders provided something far more valuable than a single large purchase ever could have.

Looking back, I don’t think that was accidental. I’ve generally been more comfortable building confidence gradually through a series of smaller orders than placing one large order with a supplier I’d never used before. As I explain in the Peptides Weekly Smart Sourcing Guide & Research Peptides Black Book👇, that approach has always felt like a more measured way to navigate the uncertainties of international sourcing, limiting financial exposure while, in my view, also reducing some of the practical risks that can come with larger overseas consignments.

Each order allowed me to observe whether the experience remained consistent. Did communication stay responsive? Was the ordering process just as straightforward the fourth time as it had been the first? Was documentation consistently available? Did the supplier present themselves with the same level of professionalism each time?

Those were the details I found myself paying attention to.

Interestingly, the thing that stayed with me wasn’t a particular peptide, a laboratory report or even a price list.

It was the buying experience itself.

In fact, one seemingly small change to that buying experience over the months that followed caught my attention so much that it became the reason I decided to write this Vendor File.

Because I don’t think it says something only about one supplier.

I think it may also say something about where parts of the Chinese research peptide arket are beginning to head.

And that’s where this story starts to become interesting.

It’s about how an entire market has gradually built its own knowledge network, and why that network may now be just as important as the peptides themselves.

Those discussions reveal something many newcomers never realise.

It has an information chain.

And understanding that information chain is one of the keys to understanding how the market actually works.

What is Stairway to Gray (STG)?

If you’re new to peptides, you’ve probably never heard of Stairway to Gray, usually shortened to STG.

That’s perfectly normal.

STG isn’t a pharmaceutical company.

It isn’t a peptide manufacturer.

It isn’t a clinic.

And it isn’t another online peptide shop.

Instead, it’s an independent online community built around the peptide grey market.

Before the recent disruption, which users started reporting on 1 July 2026, STG’s Telegram community had grown to around 40,000 members, making it one of the largest peptide communities online.

Members gathered there to compare suppliers, discuss laboratory testing, organise group purchases, report problems, share experiences and help newcomers navigate what is often a confusing and poorly understood marketplace.

Think of it less as a business and more as a town square.

People didn’t visit STG simply to find peptides.

They went there to ask questions, compare notes, learn from one another and decide who they trusted.

Like every online community, opinions could be incomplete, biased or simply wrong. But there is little doubt that STG became influential because it concentrated knowledge that would otherwise have been scattered across thousands of individual conversations.

In that sense, it became something more than a discussion group.

It became part of the market’s infrastructure.

Why Telegram and Discord?

Many readers will already know WhatsApp.

Telegram works in a similar way but is designed to support very large public communities. Discord, originally developed for gamers, has evolved into another platform where thousands of people organise themselves around shared interests.

Both became natural homes for peptide communities.

People didn’t simply exchange messages.

They shared independent laboratory reports.

Compared shipping experiences.

Discussed supplier reliability.

Warned others about questionable batches.

Helped beginners avoid expensive mistakes.

Over time, these communities evolved into something resembling an informal knowledge network.

Much of the information people relied upon never appeared on company websites.

It lived inside conversations.

That doesn’t mean communities are always right.

Like any online space, they can become time-consuming to follow. Strong personalities can shape discussion, popular narratives can evolve into echo chambers, and not every claim is supported by reliable evidence. The anonymity that many users value can also make it easier for online hostility, personal attacks and toxic behaviour to flourish, particularly during periods of disagreement or controversy.

Communities are best viewed as sources of information—not sources of truth. The value comes from comparing multiple viewpoints, looking for independent laboratory evidence and applying critical thinking, rather than accepting any single opinion at face value.

Trust works differently in the grey market

When you collect a prescription from a pharmacy, trust comes from familiar institutions.

Medicines are licensed.

Manufacturers are inspected.

Healthcare professionals prescribe treatments.

Regulators monitor safety.

The peptide grey market has far fewer formal safeguards.

Instead, trust is built differently.

It emerges through shared experience, independent laboratory testing, supplier reputation and countless conversations between people trying to separate reliable information from marketing.

No single laboratory report or community post tells the whole story.

But taken together, thousands of individual observations gradually build a picture of which suppliers appear consistent, which products raise concerns and which claims deserve scepticism.

That collective knowledge has become one of the market’s most valuable assets.

Where does the community go now?

One consequence of the recent discussions surrounding STG is that people have begun asking a practical question:

Where should the conversation happen now?

Some discussion has already moved to GLP-1 Forum, which now has more than 60,000 registered members. Unlike Telegram or Discord, forums organise discussions into searchable threads. A laboratory report posted today can still be found months or even years later, making forums valuable long-term repositories of knowledge.

Others have migrated to newer platforms, like Loqa.

Many continue to participate in the individual Telegram and Discord communities operated by Chinese manufacturers, suppliers and local resellers.

In other words, the conversation hasn’t disappeared.

It’s becoming more decentralised.

Rather than relying on a single community, researchers are increasingly spreading across forums, messaging platforms, supplier-operated communities and independent websites.

That makes the ecosystem more resilient.

If one platform disappears, others remain.

But it also creates new challenges.

The same supplier may be discussed across multiple communities, each with different experiences and different evidence.

Important information can become siloed.

One community may identify a problem that another never sees.

Independence matters

There is another important distinction.

Independent communities and supplier-operated communities play very different roles.

Supplier communities often provide customer support, answer technical questions and build loyal followings. Many are genuinely helpful.

At the same time, they also have an obvious commercial interest in promoting their own products.

Independent communities, by contrast, have greater freedom to question suppliers, compare competitors and openly discuss concerns without the same commercial incentives.

Neither model is inherently better.

Both have strengths.

But readers should understand the difference.

As conversations become increasingly fragmented across dozens of separate communities, it becomes harder for everyone to see the same evidence, challenge the same assumptions and learn from the same experiences.

In a market with relatively little formal oversight, that fragmentation may become one of the greatest risks of all.

This isn’t really about software

The debate isn’t ultimately about Telegram, Discord or forums.

It’s about something much more fundamental.

Where should the peptide community store its knowledge?

Only a few years ago that wasn’t an important question.

The community was smaller.

Most discussions took place between relatively small groups of enthusiasts.

Today, peptides have become mainstream.

Millions of people recognise GLP-1 medicines.

Thousands are now exploring the wider peptide ecosystem.

As the market grows, so too does the value of its collective knowledge.

And valuable knowledge needs somewhere durable to live.

The market doesn’t just move peptides

Perhaps the most important lesson from the past few weeks is that the grey market doesn’t simply move products from factories to researchers.

It moves information.

Every purchasing decision depends on a chain of knowledge.

Who manufactured this batch?

Has anyone independently tested it?

Have other researchers reported problems?

Has the supplier responded openly?

Do the laboratory results appear credible?

Has quality changed over time?

Unlike the regulated pharmaceutical market, there is rarely a single authoritative answer.

Instead, thousands of individual observations gradually accumulate into a collective understanding. That shared knowledge helps people decide who to trust, what to avoid and which claims deserve closer scrutiny.

In many ways, the information has become just as valuable as the peptide itself.

A market built on informal institutions

Licensed medicines operate within well-established institutions. Manufacturers are inspected, medicines are licensed, healthcare professionals prescribe them and regulators continue monitoring safety after they reach patients.

The grey market has developed differently.

Over time, it has built its own informal institutions.

Independent laboratories test products.

Experienced reviewers interpret results.

Volunteer moderators organise communities.

Forums preserve knowledge.

Telegram and Discord spread information rapidly.

Independent newsletters and educational websites increasingly connect these different sources together.

None of these carries the authority of a medicines regulator, and none is infallible.

Communities can be wrong.

Laboratory testing has limitations.

Personal experiences are not universal.

Yet together they have created an ecosystem that many researchers now rely upon to navigate a market with relatively little formal oversight.

A market that’s growing up

Earlier this week, I argued that the peptide market isn’t one market.

The discussions that followed suggest something equally important.

The Walker Chemicals episode raised questions about what was inside the vial.

The discussions surrounding STG raised questions about what happens outside it.

One exposed the importance of product quality.

The other exposed the importance of information.

At first glance, those might appear to be separate stories.

I don’t think they are.

Both reflect a market that is becoming larger, more visible and more sophisticated. As that happens, the conversation inevitably shifts beyond individual suppliers towards broader questions of transparency, governance and trust.

That evolution presents both opportunities and challenges. More communities mean more voices, more independent scrutiny and greater resilience if any single platform disappears. At the same time, information is becoming increasingly fragmented across forums, messaging apps, vendor communities and social media. Preserving accuracy, context and institutional memory will only become harder as the ecosystem grows.

The peptide grey market isn’t simply a marketplace.

It’s an information ecosystem.

How that ecosystem develops over the next few years—where knowledge is stored, how independent testing is shared, who people trust and how communities organise themselves—may prove just as important as the next generation of peptides entering the market.

The past fortnight may ultimately be remembered not for a failed batch or one community changing course, but for revealing something that had been hiding in plain sight all along.

The modern peptide grey market doesn’t just run on molecules.

It runs on the communities that help people understand them.

Last week, in “The Weekly Injection #2: My Journey from Mounjaro to Research Peptides”, I followed a single person — me — from a licensed GLP-1 pen to a fridge full of tiny white vials.

Now zoom out.

Today’s note already laid out the basic structure of the market: not one market, but a pyramid. Once you see the shape, the risks get easier to understand.

One word, four markets

When most people hear “peptides,” they imagine a single industry.

It isn’t. It’s several very different markets stacked on top of each other.

The peptide economy can be thought of as a pyramid:

• Tier 1 — Licensed medicines

Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro and other GLP-1s inside formal pharma systems. Expensive, regulated, and traceable when something goes wrong.

• Tier 2 — Clinics and compounding pharmacies

Private wellness, longevity and aesthetic clinics, plus US compounding pharmacies. This is a more formal medical channel, but oversight varies. In the US, compounding usually sits under 503A or 503B rules, but compounded drugs are still not FDA-approved.

• Tier 3a — Local grey-market resellers

UK, EU, US and AUS brands that source from China or international suppliers, then re-label, package and sell locally through websites, social media and customer support. Closer to the customer, but further from the factory.
