i’ve been thru all three, and i’ll tell you the mistake that you’re making rn that explains why you can’t beat these…

and it’s been happening before you even realized.

everyone tries to quit these habits by going cold turkey.

putting the phone down from 8 hours of screentime to 1, quitting the porn and swearing to never return to it, deleting the uber eats icon off the home page…

you get the idea.

but the part no one realizes is the only part that actually matters.

and it has nothing to do with willpower or discipline…

it’s simpler.

time.

think about your bad habits for a second…

how long have you been addicted to them for?

weeks, months, years?

and yet in the span of a couple hours you expect to quit it fully?

ofc you’re gonna relapse bro.

cuz you’re not even fighting the habit anymore…

you’re fighting the version of yourself that has years of proof that you are someone who does these bad habits.

and the years will always win against motivation in the long run.

so here’s the actual method to quitting that no one wants to hear or tell you, because it doesn’t ease the pain, it only reduces it…

and it’s simply to cut slowly.

8 hours of screentime going to 1 in a day is retarded.

you don’t go down by that much in a day after your face has been glued to a phone screen since tiktok came out…

but going from 8 to 7 isn’t too unrealistic…

and once 7 seems easy, 6 doesn’t sound so bad either.

get my point?

you climb down the ladder slowly…

from 8 hours to 7 to 6 and eventually to the number you’ve been aiming for this entire time.

but you don’t try jumping down from 7 to 4 just because you had some motivational push from a stoicism edit at 2am.

and this applies to everything.

you don’t go cold turkey on porn addiction.

you just goon less often…

once a day turns to once every other day.

and once that gets easy you go on to once a week and so on…

you’re don’t keep falling into your bad habits because you’re undisciplined…

you keep falling for them because you haven’t given yourself enough time to turn into the version of yourself that no longer associates with the bad habit.

and that needs time to be fixed.

it’s 12:37am as i’m writing this.

i was just about to go workout, forgot to charge my airpods tho.

but that’s not the interesting part…

the interesting part is what my mind heard.

i told it “airpods are dead” and it heard “you don’t have to workout today”

i caught myself getting away from the work without even thinking about getting in.

and i realize that this is just a programming issue.

i’m running the code of finding excuses first before running the code to find solutions.

was about to go rest when i asked myself if i needed the airpods or if i was just coping?

my mind knew the answer.

and here’s the real scary part of this all…

even if the airpods were charged, there would’ve still been some excuse.

the rain, being too tired, eating too much…

the brain just needs an excuse so that it can cope itself out of the hard work.

you might think you need to stop making excuses…

but you don’t need to fix the excuses because the excuses were never the problem.

it was the version of yourself that keeps trying to avoid the hard work.

and until that version of you is gone, it doesn’t matter how many excuses you catch.

so you get back in the ring, again and again and again…

that’s all this journey is.

you keep getting into a battle, getting your ass beat, and all you have to do is just stay in the fight.

there was a time where i had no control over my mind.

i’d be scrolling reels while i was supposed to work and end up seeing a half-naked girl on my fyp…

end up on the same incognito tabs i told myself i’d never open months ago.

but yk, i noticed a pattern every time.

there was always a gap.

i would face some resistance in my work and get the urge to scroll.

but before i scrolled, there was the gap.

the small moment before my hand reaches the phone where i still had control over my mind.

and once i spotted it, i started noticing it everywhere.

before i opened the incognito tabs, i would have a split-second where i’d stare at my phone and ask if it was worth it.

when the episode was loading on netflix and i knew this wasn’t what i had to do.

and this is the moment that decides it all.

if you give in to this gap, you’ll once again just fall back into your bad habits.

but if you grab hold of your mind in that split-second, you’ll be able to avoid it.

and now that i’ve told you about the gap, you’ll spot it everywhere in your life.

the next time the urge rises, you’ll know that this is what i was talking about.

but 7 minutes in i would face some form of resistance in the work and end up on chess.com.

my mind didn’t think of it as something negative tho.

it just thought, “oh, we’re playing chess and getting smarter…”

so i would end up playing that for the rest of my work session and then write it off with “there’s always tomorrow.”

the worst part?

i genuinely believed it.

that tomorrow was the right day and that today was just not the right day for the work.

but it never registered to my mind that this was just procrastination.

a distraction from the work.

so i kept scheduling the work and sitting down for it…

but after 15 minutes i’d just quit and play some chess.

ofc i got nothing done in this period.

the scary part of this whole thing is that i never realized chess was wasting my time.

i just got bored of it.

and i looked back later on and realized that chess was the reason i was getting fuckall done.

i never realized until it was already too late.

the most dangerous enemy is the one you don’t know is your enemy.

and the most dangerous procrastination isn’t the tiktok’s you watch in the middle of the work, you know that enemy exists.

it’s the thing you keep doing that feels productive but isn’t the work.

you know what it is in your life.

you’ve probably already figured it out by this point.

and you know what you have to do with it.

but only one can make it to the end, because only one has the right beliefs.

don’t let the childhood memories become you.

there’s a classroom filled with trash all over the floor.

one class got told a presentation on why littering was bad…

for a couple days, but then it returned to the usual junkyard.

except what they got told was different from the first so much that you’d think it was a lie.

“you guys are a tidy class”

not asking them to be tidy, not asking them to stop littering, just told that they are…

doesn’t seem like it’d work right?

but it did.

the class stopped littering and it held for weeks, not just a few days.

why?

cuz telling someone to do something will always just stop working after a couple days.

but when you tell them a fact about who they are, they’re not being forced to do something anymore, they’re just being themselves.

and this happened to you too, without the litter, but maybe with the teacher.

most likely your family though.

way earlier than you can remember, maybe you don’t even have any memories from that time.

some small comment when you were sharing your dreams about how it was “unrealistic” and that you should be fr.

your brain didn’t know any better, it just thought of that as a fact and moved on from it like it really was.

but it’s still running right now, just watch…

you set a goal for yourself.

a goal that you already think you won’t reach before you even start working on it.

you think it’s just normal.

but what that actually costs is your effort.

you don’t go all-in on it because a part of your brain still thinks that this goal is impossible to reach.

and that part of the brain is the same one that was told to “be realistic” as a little kid.

so you put in some half assed effort, get a fully ass result, and tell yourself that this is just who you are.

but it’s not.

it’s just a comment someone made that you’re still accepting as a fact today.

they were both learning, they were just learning from different sources.

walker spent his whole life reading about other’s experiences.

vanderbilt went and lived his own.

you don’t learn something by reading about it…

you learn it by living in it.

and that’s why you can know everything but know nothing when it matters.

the iphone ‘radial’ alarm woke me up and i was already knowing i slept like shit the last night by the way my eyes dropped right back to sleep.

but the list of tasks i made last night doesn’t care about how i slept.

it just needs the boxes to get ticked.

journal, meditate, workout, then deep work.

grab the notebook, write down a couple lines about how i’m feeling in handwriting that makes a 3rd grader’s writing look impressive.

sit down to meditate and almost fall back asleep, not even focused, ending it early cuz i can’t keep track of my breath for shit.

went to workout next.

looked forward to it but my body was still sore from last time so my legs were shaking like crazy.

do some half-reps and end the workout a few sets early, walked out weaker than i was when i walked in.

now it’s work time.

and by the time i sit down to work i’ve already used everything i had in the tank.

phone’s in my hand and the work never gets done.

four tasks for the day.

all checked off on paper, but i know that none of them were truly finished.

and that’s what “doing it all” feels like.

everyone wants to be productive and put as much as they can on their plate without realizing that the plate itself will break.

now i only fill the plate with what it can hold.

some days it’s just the workout, nothing else.

the weights still feel heavy, but my legs aren’t shaking and the reps aren’t half-done.

some days it’ll just be the work.

done fr, not with a doom scroll session in the middle.

nobody fails at four things.

they just never actually finish one.

there was a phase of my life where i was afraid to look people in the eye.

i remember taking notes of it in my journal thinking this was gonna change me as a person.

so i go on a walk and along the way take the trail to the library which i’d never gone to before atp.

walk in, calm atmosphere, quiet enough you can hear your footsteps but loud enough to hear people whispering around you.

ask the clerk there: “i’m from haagen-dazs, what’s your favorite ice cream flavor?”

she thinks for a moment and responds: “mint chocolate chip”

“good choice.”

the thing is…

i don’t work for haagen-dazs.

this was just something i was doing to build my confidence, i was just larping.

it might seem kinda obvious if you’re reading this, but a stranger would never interrogate you to see if you actually work there.

and it got me thinking afterwards…

how much more can you lie about?

not just to others, but to yourself.

bc if i could pretend to be an ice cream employee, there had to be more shit i could pretend to be.

maybe even the person i wanted to become.

this was like the equivalent of discovering fire for a caveman for me at the time.

so i thought of who i wanted to be, then imagined how he would act in the situations i’m in.

similar to watching a tv show, i’d zoom out of situations in real time and ask myself what that version of myself would do.

i remember on my walks i’d walk past a lot of people who i didn’t really wanna make eye contact with, so i’d just go on my phone…

but i’d get a reminder in my head of who i was becoming, i had to act like him…

so i’d put the phone down and just walk past them confidently, like the ultimate version of me would.

and over time this doesn’t even register as something you have to think about or force…

i just started acting that way naturally without even second-guessing it.

and obviously if i acted like who i wanted to be for long enough…

it’d be weird for me to not become that guy.

larp to everyone, including yourself, because after a while…

it’s not larp anymore, it’s just who you are.

so when he gets asked passively if he reached his something yet, he can just say some shit like:

“oh yea i forgot about that, i’ll just start monday”

but three mondays later and you’ll find him in the same spot with no one in the group, or him, giving a fuck.

that’s the bar tho and no one even cares.

most guys don’t even fail at their goal because failing means trying and most people never get past the trying part.

they just keep saying they will.

you tried though.

maybe you keep falling off or this is your 3rd time saying “next time” on your goal.

doesn’t matter rn.

what matters is that you’re still in it.

that alone makes you rare.

so let’s timeskip a year into the future…

the gc will still have the same bullshit going on with the same guy saying the same thing that everyone knows he’ll never start…

the guy three houses down from you is still going to be doom scrolling on autopilot instead of sleeping…

because “going to the gym” isn’t some task he has on apple reminders, it’s just who he is.

but trying leaves the door open to walk out and just quit.

it’s not being humble about how you’re just starting out or whatever other cope you’re telling yourself…

it’s just permission to skip the work you know you gotta do while still feeling good about yourself.

because nobody quits something they actually are.

the gym rat doesn’t skip leg day just because it’s raining outside…

he doesn’t even have to decide.

it’s automatic.

and that’s the biggest difference…

one guy is forcing himself to go everyday, fighting his mind, watching motivational tiktoks…

while the other guy is already lifting the weights.

i didn’t go out and buy glasses to watch it or anything…

but it made me realize something that most people overlook.

in an eclipse, the moon just covers the sun for a bit.

and in that time, the sky goes dark.

but then it goes away.

the moon moves on, the sun comes back, and you wouldn’t even realize there was an eclipse if you didn’t hear about it.

but this is the exact same thing that happens in life…

something goes on in your life that covers your sun.

your life goes dark, you feel like this might never end.

but it always does.

the moon passes every time and the sun comes back out.

it’s just for a few minutes that it all goes dark.

you just have to endure that and then the sun will come back.

and because of the darkness…

it comes back even brighter than before.

in school… all my friends came from basketball, fortnite, and anime. that’s it.

we didn’t pick each other, we just played enough fortnite chapter 2 to become close.

and it was comfortable, it was fun.

just a happy birthday and an occasional imessage about how i’m doing.

and i think it’s better this way, for everyone.

i always thought this was just about surrounding yourself with the best people…

but it’s also about avoiding the ones who limit your potential.

the ones who don’t let you get any further because that would mean they can no longer feel equal to you.

and as a kid, you just make all these friends who like the same shit as you.

the ones who were also interested in the new season of fortnite…

but as you grow up and start wanting more, you start noticing that you can no longer fit in this friendship with them.

you want different things.

and that’s fine.

i went through it as well.

but don’t let someone else’s ceiling become yours.

you might have to lose some friends…

not because you don’t like them anymore, but because you don’t want to be trapped in the same box as them…

and if you have to choose between being liked by people who liked the old you or to become the guy you said you would be…

you gotta choose yourself.

i used to be a “dopamine junkie…”

was on tiktok all day, gooned multiple times, would just be consuming something all the time.

my sleep was fucked too because if i didn’t fall asleep in 5 mins, i’d get bored and just go to scroll again.

i was at the point where sleep was just a break from scrolling.

but now i can stare at a wall for hours without getting bored in the slightest.

sure, i have my thoughts to entertain me, like everyone else…

but honestly, it was way easier than most make it out to be.

and now every small thing feels fun, no matter how boring it truly is.

be catching myself smiling for no reason, life’s just that good.

all i had to change was one thing.

don’t click off just cuz it’s simple…

scrolling.

but i didn’t quit cold turkey.

i just lowered my usage slowly, 8 hours a day to 4, 4 to 2, 2 to 1, and after a month or two i didn’t even feel like scrolling anymore, the apps were just boring.

yet everything else in my life seemed to be so much more interesting.

i’d go out for a walk without needing music in my ears at all times…

sleep without scrolling for 30 minutes first, which also fixed my sleep…

and even just talking to other people, friends, parents, it all became more exciting.

i still watch a movie now and then, listen to music, things of that sort…

but short-form content is the one that really messes you up the most.

kills your dopamine.

cut it out and every small thing in your life that you think of as a “struggle” will suddenly become things you look forward to.

your life isn’t boring.

your baseline is just too high.

i remember being at this one family dinner.

was making these guys monthly salaries in a couple days.

ofc none of them knew… i just lied and said i was playing it safe and seeing what cards i had to play.

but one morning i wake up, go to post my video, and i’m signed out?

weird.

so i check my gmail.

“we have removed your channel from YouTube”

i didn’t think i’d lose the channel tho, i’d just appeal it and we’d go back to normal.

three days later the appeal got rejected.

i felt hopeless.

genuinely felt defeated for the first time in a minute.

but i still had this months payout coming in, so i went and bought some uber eats.

and i just sat there watching a bunch of anime.

i was trying to distract myself.

convincing myself i’d lock back in later.

but for now it was alright to just doom scroll.

and i still couldn’t shake that feeling.

the voice in the back of my head telling me that i was meant for more.

the exact one i’d been trying to silence.

and this isn’t just a story about “working hard” and “being different…”

it’s a lesson that i learned in the most terrifying way.

once you start walking down this path…

attempting to become the best you, pushing your limits…

there is no turning back.

i’ve been up for the last three hours working.

early mornings just hit different…

no one up to bother you, it’s like the world turns off for a moment and you get to be in your own zone.

but i remember what happened when i got too into the zone.

and it happened when i used to sacrifice sleep.

would go to bed at 7 and wake up at 12.

told myself i was “grinding” and outworking my competition…

whole time i would work for an hour and then watch some shit on youtube.

knew deep down i was doing fuckall but the feeling of waking up early made me feel like i was actually productive.

and i would set out a whole list of like 47 tasks for myself to do in the morning and then i told myself i’d rest in the afternoon.

but i would either go back to sleep in the morning or just doom scroll instead of the work so i never actually got anything done.

which meant i had to work the whole day.

constantly switching between work and relaxing to the point where i was never able to enjoy either side.

looking back, that was also the time i hated my life the most.

coincidence? we know it’s not.

now i’ve structured my day in a way that lets me enjoy my life while doing the work i know i have to.

ik, might just sound like another bs claim.

but trust me, if you make it to the end of this i’ll teach you my full daily structure.

your friends will be asking you get so much shit done while not even working for long hours.

you won’t even really need to discipline yourself anymore.

but enough talking…

routines are not as important as you think.

listen.

a full routine where you’ve put every second of your day onto google calendar with a task assigned to it is just motivational.

in reality?

it’s not actually going to do shit for you.

you’ll see it and get overwhelmed by the amount of shit you have to do.

if anything, you might take an extra couple of minutes working out and then just ruin your whole calendar, get pissed, and quit.

you need to follow the structure of a lion.

hunt, eat, rest, sleep.

that’s all.

and we’re going to split it up into three sections.

morning. afternoon. and evening.

there’s no one set routine everyone can follow, but i’ll tell you how to structure your day for success.

which’ll work for anyone, regardless of school or work.

the optimal morning.

so… this whole day starts with when you wake up.

and you probably already know when to wake up.

very early.

ideally before everyone else so you can work in silence.

so something like 6am works, just make sure you have enough time to finish your “eat the frog” task.

imagine if you had a frog you had to eat everyday.

when would you eat it?

the smart ppl will say first thing in the morning, they get to wash down the frog taste with everything else in their day.

but if you procrastinate eating it and eat it at the end of the day, you will be thinking about that frog all day long…

terrified to eat it.

but if you eat it first thing you get to go through the day free from worry and knowing that you already have a win.

now this frog isn’t an actual frog.

it’s the highest leverage work you can do to reach your goal.

the work that moves the needle as they call it.

for me, that would be writing and getting more people onto this substack and to my product.

but the thing is… this is also the hardest task.

the frog is the most mentally draining work you’ll do in the day.

which is why you do it first thing in the morning.

you’re refreshed from last night.

so keep that in mind…

you can’t just do it in the afternoon or night, you’ll be too drained.

so to recap…

• wake up early (pick a time to wake up)

• eat your frog (pick a specific task)

• do that task first thing

so the morning is done, now let’s go on to the afternoon.

the optimal afternoon.

so now you’re going to start feeling tired.

like you’ve just been drained of your energy.

and it’s a good feeling to have, yk you actually did some work.

but this is the section where you do all the essential tasks.

think going to the gym, your daily habits, the work you have to do that isn’t in your ‘eating the frog’ task.

personally i just go hit a workout, then do some visualizations, and then i’ll do some other tasks i have.

this shouldn’t take too long.

and also, you probably have work/school so you can’t really just throw things in between it.

one note…

if you get tired, just START.

i remember i used to come back from school exhausted asf but i always used to get energy back when i hopped onto fortnite.

when your brain has shit to do it won’t focus on how it’s tired.

so just get into a task.

just turn on the educational video, you’ll finish it.

just walk into the gym, you’ll hit a workout.

then we move on to the final section…

the optimal evening.

this is the easiest part of your day.

the planning and relaxing section.

it’s simple.

you plan the next day.

and then you rest.

sounds easy enough right?

planning.

think of a boat with no destination.

it will just end up somewhere random.

just like how if you don’t plan and set up your day…

it will end up somewhere random.

so all you have to do is set the destination and go there.

or in other words, plan your tasks and then do it.

it’s that simple.

success is planning the work and then doing the work.

YOU HAVE TO PLAN THIS THE NIGHT BEFORE.

imagine waking up with nothing to do for the day.

you will just be tempted to doom scroll in bed bro.

and also, in the night you just feel motivated asf.

knowing that tmrw could be a day where you actually get things done…

so you look at the day with pure discipline.

but when you wake up you just look at the easiest path out.

and if you don’t do the work.

well, then you just know you pussied out.

and don’t overcomplicate this…

just write out your day in a journal or something.

relaxing.

i don’t like the typical idea of “relaxation” people have.

which is just doom scrolling for hours.

cuz imagine doing all this just to doomscroll bro?

you’re just shooting yourself in the foot at that point.

if anything do something that is fun but doesn’t just give you free easy dopamine…

• go on a walk with music

• go out with a girl

• play chess

• watch a series/documentary/movie

• journal

whatever you find fun.

but try not to do something that brings no benefit into your life.

key note.

if you finish your eat the frog task, essential tasks, and planning early.

you can just move onto the relaxed state.

which is why you can work for just 2 hours a day and rest the other hours.

you don’t have to follow an order, it’s just easier to explain.

summary.

• wake up early and eat the frog (your highest leverage task for the day)

• do your essential tasks

• set up the next day (journal it out, make sure yk what you’re doing the next day)

• relax (get ready for the next day, enjoy yourself)

that’s all.

start this now.

do not let your brain let you delay this and go back to tiktok.
