Chapters Closing

I can’t deny the feeling anymore; I think my time in Chicago is coming to a close. Not only do I feel like my growth here has overgrown its container, I hear a voice in my head say “time to go”. I’m not quite sure where yet- hopefully Vegas. I first moved here to feel safe after years of being abused in my familial home, and I now feel very capable of creating that feeling wherever I’m at.

I will miss many seriously impactful clients in this city who’ve made my time so sweet. Unfortunately the ephemera is not enough to stop me from moving forward. I know the people who truly miss me will seek me out. And I know it’s best for my career if I recenter myself in a place dedicated to adult entertainment. But actually pulling the trigger on a huge life decision? That’s very different than just feeling ready to go.

Don’t panic! An official announcement will be made before any big move. It looks like for at least the rest of the summer, I’ll be remaining in Chicago. What I want from my career this summer is to continue the trajectory of growth I’ve been on since March. I want to film with studios, create beautiful films that are worthy of awards, and experience moments of private delight with passionate lovers. Why I Have A Cancellation Fee

I am also going to (and I’m holding myself to this) promise myself to release 2 full songs with visuals this year. Some of you know I’m musically minded but I’ve never been loud about it. Finally, I want to vocally be visible and helpful to full service sex workers specifically without fear of its illegality.

Truth: Not hiding parts of myself for eases sake. The truth is I’m a disabled queer artist from a rural country family with Celtic heritage, the whole thing not just one part. The truth is I don’t want to spend much more time living in Chicago (sorry to my loyal Midwest clients). Momentum: It comes to no surprise that I’m a planner. This impacts me negatively sometimes even though it’s a quality I’ve adapted to make life easier. Yes-some logistics usually need to be planned, I’m not saying I’m going to go to the airport and pick a random flight to hop on, but once I’ve gotten the important stuff sorted, I need to give myself the freedom and motivation to charge forward without hesitation. I’m thinking about it like driving a car- if you’re overly slow and anxious you’ll end up in the most accidents, but if you move confidently and deliberately, chances are you’ll make it to your destination okay.

Friendship: When I usually meet new people I’m very cautious and closed off, and I aim to become more open and share stories. Most importantly, I’m moving from a more remote neighborhood to live around more friends and more people in general.

Boundaries: a terrible buzzword but useful tool. It’s not a word to throw around when you’re frustrated with your roommate when you’ve never actually had the important conversation. Boundaries are agreed upon terms to help guide a relationship of any kind from lovers, friends, family. I personally aim to set friendship boundaries in new friendships to help manage expectations of me as a dynamically disabled, sick person. I aim to set boundaries with the new doctors with my care plan.

It’s finally my favorite month of the whole year! If you’re new here- hi, I’m a winter baby and Capricorn. We met up for a quick shoot at a light box studio where I stood/sat in the center of a cube surrounded in light! We did both clear and black wraps in photos and recorded the entire process. Hopefully we can share in me revealing them together this December!

Richie Tenenbaum was my (not planned) last shoot of my trip, and we did a simple shoot in the guest room of my family’s house I was staying in. It was early afternoon so we shot in natural light and filmed so short teaser videos, too! I loved his use of color films while shooting and his experienced eye with enticing videos. I’m still awaiting the final edits, so be patient and I will share them with you guys this winter!

That is where my adventures in LA had to stop- I had another video collab and one more photoshoot planned, but I had to rush home a day early. You see, with the combination of my disabilities, I was facing a medical emergency and needed to return in order to receive treatment and proper medication. Having ME/CFS, which was added to my list of diagnoses mere months ago, means that overactivity and overuse of my body can do compound damage to all of my body’s systems. I was lucky I even made it home without being brought to a hospital first, so I counted myself as lucky and decided to call it quits while I was able. Without you and every fan that supports my art, what I achieved wouldn’t have been possible.

So, will I travel to make adult films again? I’d love to. It’s much easier for me to travel by car, so I’d love to meet up with performers in the Midwest and Appalachias. If it’s a shorter trip, meaning 2 days or less, I can fly with Dolly to a content hub like Los Angeles or Vegas! Either way- I learned a lot this time around.

Thank you for making it all the way to the very end. I wanted to end this letter by reflecting on the cherry on top of my November- performing for a live audience for the first time in 2 years.

Those who’ve followed me for a while will know I used to perform live burlesque and draglesaue, that’s until COVID paused the world, and my body’s mobility became more limited. This past year I’ve had the desire to perform again, but have struggled to find a show or stage that is accessible to me as a wheelchair user and dancer. That was until my friend, Keke The Scorpio (who you should follow on social media if you love sexy strippers), put me in touch with the party One Night Only. They host out of The Latina Sweat Project- a woman owned, immigrant owned, Mexican owned movement studio that hosts dance and yoga classes. The energy in the space was perfectly divine, the whole cast and crew had so much love to give, and the audience opened their pockets to show us their appreciation. Any time I had an accessibility related issue- it was figured out with my consent within 30 seconds. I honestly had no complaints, as a person who often has a lot to complain about. I hope I get the chance to perform with them again- and either way I hope you support them and The Latina Sweat Project if you’re local to Chicago.

Wherever you are, you can advocate for disabled artists and performers to have the right and ability to showcase as our able bodied counterparts do. If you own a space, cast a show, or host a party, ask yourself if you’ve had disabled artists and performers, and if you haven’t, ask yourself what changes would need to be made so that disabled artists can be in your space. Help your friends get connected like mine did for me, and when you see disabled performances and art, pay for it! Pay double if you can, trust me, they deserve it. What season is it where you live? We phased through autumn in October in Chicago and snapped into Winter quickly as November rolled in. That being said, I welcome my upcoming trip to Southern California with open, goose bumped arms.

I’m hoping that my travel situation isn’t too complicated with the shut down, but as a solo wheelchair traveler, I have plenty of experience having travel be chaotic.

Home life has changed in a lot of ways since my wife Dolly had a major surgery last month and is on a long road to recovery. My body is exhausted, but I’m so excited to see someone I love get through something so scary and come out better on the other side.

While I’m home in Chicago, I want to focus on in person connections with clients old and new. For the both of us to feel held and warm during the coldest time of year. Thank the gods that autumn is here. All the more close to Capricorn season- the supreme season. I’m so scared of the future but I’m so excited to find out what happens, does anyone else share this feeling? My neighbor cut down the mulberry tree that hung into my side of the yard without telling me and burned it for a party, and it felt like I lost a beloved pet. I hate senseless violence even when you can’t hear them scream. I’ve had the hardest summer of keeping my head above water, just scraping by to pay rent and bills, barely having the funds to do anything else. My mindset as of now could be summarized as, while it feels like the sky may fall tomorrow, I am happy, my wife and pets make me happy, my friends make me happy, my incredible clients and the life they give me makes me happy. So now is definitely not the time to give up.

Disability Diary

I’m honestly dreading this part of the letter this month-because the story has just gotten worse. I’m in limbo trying to find a doctor in the state of Illinois who understands my condition, or travel to another state to get the care I need. My list of things I need to buy to make my life even kind of similar to how it was prior to all the change has gotten so long it feels impossible. I’m stuck in my apartment some days because I live on the second floor and can’t get downstairs without assistance. Please don’t let this depress, or inspire you. It just, is what it is. I’m okay. I find joy in life every single day. Even when I was just about to cancel a trip- clients came through with bookings so I can afford to travel. I believe in my own and my wife’s ability to tackle these medical challenges, it’s just really dependent on the resources we’re able to gain and how long that may take. July felt 3 months long. Like a month of Portland, then rest (lots of long naps due to heat exhaustion), then back to work at home but each felt eternal. I’m so proud of the work I was able to accomplish by myself in PDX, but will certainly approach my next work trip with more help and time. I’ve also had some of the most wonderful experiences with clients new and old-and would love to continue this trend through August! This past month was disability pride month and all I got was a 10/10 on the pain scale and referral for ketamine therapy (laughs in horse girl). In all seriousness I’m glad I have a path forward that’s mapped out. Life kind of feels like a spooky video game with blind boxes to help you on the way, helpful but very strange. My Portland trip has already given birth to some truly amazing content from dynamic photoshoots with my dream photographers and some of my favorite girl/girl collabs to date! Disability Diary

I need to ask for help getting a few things to update my wheelchair before I can get insurance to cover a custom power chair. On my list are a new cushion, anti-tip assists, cup holder, and waist seatbelt. I’m exploring a long term physical medicine program that involves targeted physical therapy and pain management to which I received a referral. I’m also trying a new antiviral medication to combat the effects of chronic fatigue/dysautonomia. The one that scared me was ketamine therapy-scary since it’s not covered yet by ANY insurance carrier, and my medical trauma makes me fear being seen as “drug seeking” if it goes on my medical record. My insurance has changed as well- and although some of the changes have been positive for my medical care, it’s still kind of TBD. I’m personally very hopeful about my body, my mood is overall healthy. Thanks to moments like the photo above that clear my mind in the very best way.

I however ache for the future changes for disabled people in this country, myself as a Medicaid recipient. People are going to lose their lives, disabled people, and it’s been planned. The only thing anyone allied with disabled people can really do is (and I’ve said this repeatedly about how to help marginalized groups) give people money directly. If we’re going to get through this it’s going to take a collective effort and a level of compassion that some people aren’t comfortable enough with practicing. But I have hope in the constant of change.

A shorter letter, I know, but short can be just as sweet. My body craves more rest and silence than hearing my own thoughts echo- not in a sad way but more like I’m at peace with not saying absolutely everything on my mind. I think that’s a change I needed and welcome. I feel healthier accepting the tools I have and not diminishing my own brand of joy. Months like these make me go “I wish my dog could be my assistant”. I was rushing to pack for Portland, writing this letter, gardening like a madman, still making content and sleeping every moment I am not busy. But here we are- just in time.

Pride month felt weird this year, I don’t think any queer person I know in real life has the money to party, and I made even less money last month than I did in the winter months, very unexpectedly may I add (summer is usually the safe money make season for irl sex workers).

I feel my time in Chicago coming to a close, a thought I had while stuck in traffic in the summer heat. Well- Dolly’s mom lives in Cape Cod, and Massachusetts has some of the best medical care for EDS patients in the country. But for now- I savor the fruits of the trees I’ve planted in sweet Chicago. May has however been a strangely difficult month to be a sex worker, let alone a trans one. Many of you know that sex workers are the first to feel the recession (we’ve been feeling the lead up for the last few years) but many of us didn’t expect such a dramatic decrease in business. On top of this, the threats that trans adults have begun to face through this new fascist administration could mean terrible, destructive things for myself, my wife, my friends and family. What I think I’m trying to describe is an overwhelming feeling of stress and grief. I’m not exhausted from supporting my loves (friends and lovers) but exhausted from not being poured into by the adoring, well meaning men who are clutching their wallets. When you hire sex workers not only are you investing in taking time for yourself, you’re aiding the survival of often a trans person, a disabled person, a single mother. It’s not a REASON to hire a sex worker, but it’s a damn good reason to choose spending time with a sex worker OVER things like tickets to a sporting event (sorry). Even if you’ve never paid a sex worker before- now is a great time to start engaging with sex workers on an economic level that suits you! Perhaps, me? 🥰

Disability Diaries: (New Permanent Entry)

I’ll say this again as a reminder- I used to give rather unsolicited advice in newsletters but chose to stop because I truly don’t believe there’s a place for advice that isn’t asked for- and needed to live by my belief. What I can share is my experience with disability as of lately in order to hopefully inform others on how the disabled population is being impacted by a harshening, fascist country.

Both my pain symptoms, as well as my dizziness and nausea, have all grown worse at a steady pace, at the same time as I float between insurance plans are watch as insurance coverage for disabled folks is threatened and stripped. The least of my worries at this moment is losing my very real and very deserved trans healthcare- due to my diagnosis as being a nonbinary person as a reason for my requests for hormone therapy, but I can’t even worry about that now. I’m struggling to afford my prescriptions-the 8 I take daily, and they don’t even scrape the surface of my pain. I’m afraid to go back to the doctor after my downgrade in insurance, and getting more bad news when there’s SO MUCH BAD NEWS to digest sounds like it would make me choke. I don’t have answers- I have questions. How have you shown up for the disabled people in your life lately?

Thinky Thoughts: Who Are We Accommodating Anyways?

I said I wouldn’t be preachy, I’m keeping to that promise, but there’s been something running around my mind like a hamster wheel lately. This section is called “Thinky Thoughts”, a not overly serious analysis of the things that get under my skin. For me, it’s the overwhelming lack of access to public and private resources for disabled folks in our year 2025.

Ableism is very prevalent in popular culture at the moment, but has a mono-focus on KN95 masking as a major means towards bridging the gap between disabled people and the world. Pleeeease do not get me wrong here, I mask in all indoor scenarios when not eating or drinking and avoid crowded spaces and have many close friends with high levels of COVID caution. I just wish that, if we’re going to have a public conversation about what disabled people need from the general population, that it could be varied and complex.

For example, I’ve wanted to attend several country dance nights recently, but couldn’t attend because both of the diy venues were up multiple flights of unstable stairs, even though they were mask required. My immune system could be protected, or I can physically enter and navigate the space safely, I cannot have both in this current ecosystem. I see many people with long-covid making posts daily about how important masking is for disabled people, but never expand the conversation beyond what personally..effects…them.

I get it- COVID is the reason you’re disabled and that fucking sucks, but if you’re going to claim the term disabled, you have a responsibility to take in other disabled points of view. I haven’t been able to attend a strip show in months since the chosen DIY venues don’t accommodate mobility aids. I have close friends with hearing loss who don’t go out much since most shows in the city NEVER offer sign interpretation. There is a bigger issue of people not being able to even get into spaces let alone BREATHE in them. Disabled people have privilege and some of us need more accommodation than others. That is not a problem, that’s an opportunity for everyone to do better.

And before I end this…these DIY venues…seriously. Chicago is a huge arts city and has new DIY show venues popping up and shutting down every year, but they all kind of have similar mission statements of “we want to create our own space that is welcoming to everyone” even some highlighting marginalized people particularly. My question is, if you’re creating this concept from scratch, why not imagine an easily accessible space for all? I really think if you can’t find wheelchair accessible spaces for your event, the event isn’t important enough and should be rethought. If you can’t find sign interpretation for your concert maybe, consider making it free? There’s also fundraiser shows and clear initiatives that can be taken to crowdfund for further access. Sure, moving venues, renting ramps, hiring interpreters, all cost money. But so do masks, and masks can’t carry me out of an inaccessible building during a fire. That’s what I care more about.

How to Honor the Winter Solstice:

As a Celtic Pagan I’ve left the catholic Christmas traditions behind to make space for what can create magic. If you would like to honor the winter solstice in a naturopathic, witchy way, try some of these simple ways!

•Make dried orange garland with cinnamon and star anise, use the left-over orange ends to make a simmer pot. If you have a yard toss the summer pot leavings somewhere the scavengers can reach it.

•Set your intentions for the day in the evening by candlelight. Celtics would start their days in the evenings. Be quiet, let your words lay on paper not on ears.

•Leave offerings for the winter spirits. Sprinkle seed for the birds, create shelters for bats and squirrels to stay warm, feed your familiar a feast and eat with them. A pour of whisky in the woods also does just fine.

•Make a wreath or decor out of sticks and dried plant material that is abundant this time of year. Use seasonal flowers and herbs like holly and thyme to decorate. If you’d like to go bigger, find a beautiful log in the woods, check for bugs, bring it home and set up a Yule log! I like to put candles rolled in herbs and oils on mine. Burn it on solstice night for as loooong as you can.

•Sain your house (Celtic version of smoke cleansing) with juniper, rosemary, thyme, mugwort, and/or yarrow. This will help clear bad, clogged, energy. You can throw them in the fireplace or set them in a fireproof bowl. Please do not use this practice if you are not Celtic.

Why No New November?

First off this isn’t a catch all statement, I’ve made a new website this month, take on many new lovers and am preparing for many new things, but to prepare for those, first must come emptying. We need to clear space before we can fill it with what we need. It’s a natural process just like how birds clear dead prairie grass to build their nests to prepare for babies coming in the spring. No new also does not meet not returning to old things that may have lost your attention, this is a perfect time for rekindling. This week I’ve been choosing clothes tho donate, clearing out my herb shelf and reorganizing, and even did the dreaded task of deep cleaning the refrigerator. Since it’s been getting colder and I’m spending more time inside, I’ve been homemaking lots of our meals and drinks, helping to avoid buying new food when we have enough.

By “no new” I also mean to be cautious of diving into new relationships, trying new life philosophies, making large decisions based on entirely new thoughts (not researched, prepared thoughts). Make space for the relationships that serve you, and appreciate those people the way they would like to be appreciated, this may take deep listening but clearing out the relationships that don’t serve you will allow you to do this easier. And one last thought on my “no new” focus of this month is that we have no new planet. I see nature trying to go through her decomposing and recycling seasons while industrial needs choke her. There is new construction constantly being proposed around Chicago, and I urge you to use your voice to stop it. There is new trash every day on my street corner, though I pick it up almost daily, I urge you to choose a day to clean up trash around you to help the earth with her emptying process. It takes work, but we can open up.

My Vacation in Joshua Tree
