PERSONAL UPDATE

I have spent the last four days in a windy, slightly wet south Devon, and I’ve loved every second. There is nothing quite like a blustery sea walk to blow out the cobwebs, especially after that rather intense full moon and lunar eclipse.

I was also completely overwhelmed by the flood of kindness and congratulatory messages following my pregnancy news in the last newsletter. Thank you so much! Here it is in case you missed it!

More than ever, I notice how directly the joy in my day is linked to how much I move. I had one day last week where busyness meant sitting down for most of it, and I felt totally out of sorts. My golden morning routine - the one that sets me up to win - is aiming for 6,000 to 7,000 steps before the day really gets away from me.

If you’ve ever noticed that your brain works differently when your feet are moving, you aren’t imagining it.

A famous Stanford University study on cognitive performance found that walking boosts creative output by an average of 60% compared to sitting. Neuroscientists attribute part of this to “optic flow”, meaning the visual cues that pass by your eyes as you move forward. As objects move past your visual field, it quietens the brain’s threat detection center (the amygdala) and shifts the nervous system out of rumination.

Movement quite literally tricks your brain into thinking forward, steering your focus away from past loops and anchoring it squarely on the horizon ahead.

So if you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or in need of a mental push to start September, try to begin your day walking in some way shape of form. It’s really a magic wand to find solutions to problems, generate motivation for tasks you have been putting off or the ultimate brainstorm super charger.

The big news is, I’m 7 months pregnant. If you’ve read The Book of Magical Living, I share a little about my complicated fertility journey and how magic and wonderful witches supported me through it and guided me back to joy. But I have kept much of this pregnancy private because it’s taken a while to fully process the experience.

For those that don’t know, in my last two pregnancies, at nearly 5 months, I sadly discovered major complications and both of them were unable to continue. After the devastating loss that split me in two, I was unsure of my capability to have a safe pregnancy. So this third one has felt like such a huge blessing and yet there has also been a cautionary cloud present. Would this pregnancy be ok? Could I allow myself to get attached or excited? This has made me slow to share the news as I’ve needed time to sit with it privately.

In fog of doubt, worry and fear, there was one extraordinary magical event that became a bright guiding light - my mum’s almost unbelievable crystal pendulum premonition back in 2024.

My mum’s crystal prediction

On first hearing about my first pregnancy in October 2024, she spontaneously asked her crystal pendulum whether it would be ok, and the crystal, to her shock and upset, started swinging no. She kept asking it questions, and it became clearer and clearer: no, the crystal was communicating that I wouldn’t have a baby in 2025. But I would in 2026, and I’d have a girl through IVF.

So a few months later, when I rang to break the heart wrenching news that complications had been found, she to my disbelief said she’d already been given a heads-up this pregnancy wouldn’t go to term, but that I wasn’t to worry, because 2026 was going to bring something different. She sent me her notes detailing the predictions, dated October 2024, proof of her unexplainable crystal prediction. In that moment of devastation and loss, she gave me the greatest gift: hope.

Hope is the fuel that gets you through the greatest tragedies, and the thing that makes you enjoy the good times. When we have hope that the future might just turn out ok, no matter what circumstances we face, we have the energy to continue. When hope is lost, it’s like a fire within us extinguishes and that is very painful.
