I always feel more “new year” energy in September than January. Maybe it’s because I’m a teacher and have time out of my routine over the Summer. Maybe it’s the exhaustion of planning my life around the weather (if I can be outside reading, I will be there). Maybe it’s the back to school energy I never lost from my youth.

But there is something really magical about the month of September.

The return to routine mixed with lingering golden light. The chilly mornings that thaw to warm afternoons. Golden sunsets that overlook the changing foliage. The sound of football on the TV on Sundays mixed with the smell of chili cooking in the crockpot. It’s the best time of year, not too hot and not too cold. I think everyone is happy in September.

So, even though I am devastated to see another Summer go, I am using this new year energy to recommit to my 2026 goals and most importantly, the creative goals I have for myself.

I decided I’m going to do a 30 Day Journaling Challenge to aid my 30 Day Writing Challenge. I’m working on finishing a fiction project and using this month (and it’s perfect 30 day limit) to focus in on it. I always feel better when I start or end my day with journaling and it helps clear my head for creating.

It’s the end of August and I am equally sad and excited. I love a fresh month and there’s something about September that always feels like true “new year” energy to me. I’ve always loved the refresh of Back to School and that is pulsing in our house right now.

This month flew by and somehow amidst enjoying Summer vacation, pool days, and lots of plans with friends, I finally got around to decluttering my home. It’s been on my list for eons it feels but it was something that left me completely overwhelmed. But now, I feel so much lighter and ready for the rest of this year.

August is the most bittersweet month. It feels simultaneously like my favorite month, savoring the long days and slowing down before the hustle and bustle of September, escaping to the lake to soak in the last of the Summer rays. It feels like a month of “lasts” before we hunker down for the business of Fall and Winter on the horizon.

But, I feel like I did my best to make the most of it and while I’m sad (the sun is already rising later in the mornings! 😭) I do feel ready for a fresh new season. But before that, here’s what I read!

Lost and Found by Tarah DeWitt—I have loved watching Tarah DeWitt’s career grow. My favorite of her novels is The Co-Op but I have loved the Spunes trilogy of interconnected novels so much too. This book was really special to read as it balanced a lot of heavy feelings surrounding grief, IVF, and loss within a second chance romance. I thought it was incredibly well done and brave to explore what it’s likes for someone to go through IVF with a supportive partner. It’s a topic that doesn’t get a lot of representation in my opinion because it’s a topic that makes people uncomfortable. While Bea’s situation for needing to use IVF isn’t the typical reason, I thought it allowed the reader to see the process in an authentic way.

The Cherry Blossom Boathouse by Laura Bloom—I picked this up on a whim from my TBR pile cause the cover caught my eye and I liked the first 40% ish and then felt like it got into cheesy romance territory. Just not a book for me!

Let’s Kiss and Tell by Joss Richard—One of my most anticipated reads of 2026 and sadly, it fell flat for me. I LOVED It’s Different This Time last year so I was extremely sad it didn’t work for me. It had all the ingredients to be a hit in the book of Phoebe too.

Yes, Chef by Grace Reilly—I wasn’t going to read this but I felt like everyone was talking about it, so I had to see what all the hype was about. It is SPICY but if you liked It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey, I reminded me of that except in the restaurant world. But it felt a bit more grounded in reality and not as cheesy as that book!

Golden Girl by Elin Hilderbrand—This book had been sitting on my shelf for years and I wanted something that felt super Summery for August. As usual, the Nantucket descriptions were great but there were a lot of elements I didn’t love. I think you can skip it.

One and Only by Maureen Goo—Another highly hyped book this year and August seemed like a good time to finally see what all the fuss was about! It blends magical realism with romance and has an older FMC (in her 40s). I liked it, didn’t love it.

The Matchmaker’s Cottage by Kat Sloane—I am SO sad to report that I didn’t enjoy this book at all. It was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and all the elements didn’t work for me. I’m so sad about it.

The Someday Garden by Ashley Poston—Thankfully, one of my tried and true favorite authors came to the rescue and I LOVED this book. The way Ashley blends fantastical elements into contemporary romance works for my brain. As a kid I was obsessed with The Secret Garden and this felt like the grown up romance version of it!

Favorite Watch: Sterling Point on Amazon Prime—I am obsessed! The lake vibes, the teen drama, the vibes. It was everything I wanted from the Every Year After adaptation and I can’t wait for season 2.

Favorite Link: Faux Seude Mini Skirt—I can’t wait to wear this all Fall!

Favorite Purchases: Denim Dress with Pockets —I think this will be great for the transition from Summer to Fall and cute to layer through the autumn!

Favorite Moment/Memory: We had a great trip to the beach when some family came to visit! It felt like a perfect Summer weekend.

Favorite Product: Trader Joe’s Hair Serum—I can’t link it, but I started using this on wet hair after I shower and it had made SUCH a difference! My hair is softer, smoother, and I feel like just lasts so much longer between washes.

What I’m Bringing to September

September is for routine, slowing down, cozy evenings, and apple scented candles. It’s for checking in on my new year’s goals, dipping my toes back into creativity, savoring the last of late Summer sun, and preparing for the end of the year.

Hello, friends!

I wanted to send out a special Friday newsletter since Monday will be my August wrap up instead of a Monday Refresh! I started this week feeling pretty overwhelmed and I am pleased to report back that after slowly tackling my “Later List”, I feel remarkably better.

If I could give future self any advice, it would be to “just start.” Things feel wildly more overwhelming when we let them pile up. And things never take as long as we think they do! Just start. Someone remind me of this the next time I lament over being overwhelmed by the things on my To Do list.

It felt like the best way I could close out the month. And now that I’ve started those crucial items, everything else feels a bit more manageable! But I can’t believe it’s the last weekend of August. This month really has slipped by but I am planning on filling it with all the things I love about Summer: reading at the pool, a trip to the farmer’s market, a fun evening with friends!

I snagged a signed copy of this book from one of my favorite authors when we were in Lake Placid in June. I finally started it this morning and I love being back in Ashley Poston’s mind. I’ll report back with my final thoughts in my August wrap up!

Growing up in the early 2000s in Connecticut, I was obsessed with the UCONN women’s basketball team. I’ll never forget going to a game and getting a high five from Diana Taurasi! I was so excited to watch this three episode docu-series on Apple TV. I wish it had been longer!

• I listed a TON of book on my Pango Books Shop this week. I am pairing down my personal library and will be updating it more as I continue to part ways with the books I no longer need. if they don’t sell by the end of each month, off to donations they’ll go! Hopefully this makes it easier to shop.

• Loving this textured puff sleeved t-shirt! Such a great Fall transition piece.

• This gingham PJ set is on sale and I love it…but kind of think I’d wear it as a matching set vs to bed!

• I’m ready for football season to start and these football earrings are so cute!

I cannot believe we are going into the final week of August. This month has flown by and I definitely have a case of the August Scaries. August is the Sunday of Summer after all. But there is something reassuring about knowing we’re going back into a season of routine, isn’t there?

I’m in a phase of decluttering and simplifying my life. I was looking back at old pictures from when we first moved in 2020 and I could not believe how much stuff we’ve accumulated since then. Stuff we don’t even use or need anymore.

So while I’m planning on treating this last week of August as a bit of a staycation before I accept it’s Back to School season, I am also going to tackle one item a day that has been languishing on my “Later List.” You know, that list of things you keep saying you’ll tackle later? Clara Peirce has been tackling hers on TikTok and I’m grateful for the inspo!

I’ll be filling totes to drop off books at Little Free Libraries, sell in my Pango Books shop, and donate to some thrift shops in my area. I emptied and reorganized our pantry this weekend and that felt very good to knock off my list. Here’s what I’m tackling!

Big Little Truths by Liane Moriarty—The follow up to Big Little Lies! I wonder if it will include elements of Season 2 of the show or be completely unique. I’m intrigued!

I need your help! I’m planning on making this last week of August a staycation and want to read some of the book of my TBR that feel Summery and beachy before September hits next week and I need to start getting ready for back to school. Vote for the one you think I should read first!

We watched this movie Friday night and based on the trailer, I was ready for a “heehee haha” funny coming of age movie produced by Adam Sandler (starring his daughter) and featuring Sarah Sherman from SNL. And while it was funny at times, it definitely took twists and turns that I didn’t see coming at all. The ending was also WILD. Has anyone else watched it??

I couldn’t sleep one night so I started rewatching Younger and now I’m full hooked in another full blown rewatch. It’s super dated and of the times, but I find it kind of fun that way. It’s on Netflix!

• I have been looking for a new podcast for a while and I’m excited to dive into Inner Childish with Victoria and Aubrey! I love both of their content and I’m excited to see where the pod conversations go.

• Football season is right around the corner! I ordered my favorite football schedule stickers for my planner and desk calendar.

• Constantly obsessed with Cree Wall Art and now want this Lost and Found crewneck for the Fall! And I might need to cave and order the one featuring It’s Different This Time. It’s SO cozy and perfect for the changing seasons.

• Speaking of Fall, I’m obsessed with this autumnal patchwork kindle case.

Fall doesn’t start for me until September 1 (honestly, September 21 since I moved to Buffalo because Winter here is SO LONG and our Summers are perfect) but I know people like to prepare their TBRs! Here are some backlist titles that you can get on the hold list for at your library or place an order through Bookshop.org.

All of these books pass the Phoebe’s Fall Vibes test: take place during the Fall season, evoke cozy vibes, pair well with a pumpkin spice or maple latte, and usually includes one of the major Fall holidays.

If It Makes You Happy by Julie Olivia—This book is set during 1997 and drew a lot of comparison’s to Gilmore Girls. I’d agree, but it doesn’t feel like Luke and Lorelai fan fiction, which is a good thing in my opinion.

The Heartbreak Hotel by Ellen O’Clover—One woman’s desperate attempt to stay in the house she lived in with her rockstar boyfriend after he cheats on her leads her to creating a unique Bed and Breakfast. In the mountains of Colorado, her quest to heal the hearts of others brings peace herself. I loved this book last year!

It’s Different This Time by Joss Richard—I loved this second chance romance that evokes Fall in NYC vibes!

North Country by KA Tucker—I’ve recently gotten into the subgenre of Romantic suspense and was pleased to learn one of my favorite authors wrote a new one! This is a great book to read in the Fall as it spans the entire season in a small northern town. Within a second chance romance, there is a mystery to be solved when a young woman turns up missing.

Intercepted by Alexa Martin—For me, Fall = Football Season (Go Bills!) so I have to scream from the rooftops what a fun series this is. It’s four interconnected standalone novels, Intercepted being the first, following the romantic lives of a group of women and professional football players. It’s funny, nuanced, and accurate as it’s written by a former NFL WAG!

Little One by Olivia Muenter—I think everyone knows by now that I am not the biggest thriller reader. I don’t like to be scared, sorry! But I do love a thoughtfully suspenseful novel that gives me the “one more chapter” feeling. This book fits the bill! It’s a story told in past and present timelines about a woman who’s past in a cult is slowly being uncovered, no matter how hard she tried to cover it up.

Falling Like Leaves by Misty Wilson—I love back to school energy in the Fall and this YA Romance novel about a city girl who winds up in a small town is the perfect fit. It also has some Gilmore Girl vibes with everyone working together for a Fall Festival.

The Academy by Elin Hilderbrand—Speaking of back to school, Fall is the perfect time for a campus novel and there’s nothing better than a boarding school novel. This one is written in multiple POVs between students and faculty. It has rich kid drama, romance, and a light mystery after the death of a sophomore the year before.

The Meadowbrook Murders by Jessica Goodman—If you like more traditional thrillers, Jessica Goodman’s YA thrillers are some of my favorites. This also takes place at an elite East Coast boarding school where, as the title suggests, a murder has taken place.

Business Casual by BK Borison—I’d recommend the entire Inglewild series by BK Borison, but if you’re going to read them as a standalone, I highly recommend the fourth and final one in the Fall. Charlie might be one of my favorite book boyfriends of all time.

Lease on Love by Fallon Ballard—I reread this book everyone Fall because it has one of the best friend groups. It’s set in Park Slope, a neighborhood of Brooklyn, and takes us through the Fall season as the main character moves into a Brownstone and gets to know the owner. It’s forced proximity, friends to lovers, and perfectly cozy.

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandana—I like my witches to be cozy, not creepy, and this is the perfect book for those vibes. It’s the first in a romance duology about magic folk.

The Do Over by Suzanne Park—Another campus Romance (are you sensing a theme?) but this time, an author returns to her alma mater only to learn she never actually graduated in the first place. She has to finish her remaining credits where one of the professors happens to be her ex.

Maybe Meant to Be by KL Walther—A YA contemporary Romance set at a prestigious boarding school following two friends as they navigate their “coming of age” years.

Given Our History by Kristyn J. Miller—A second chance, friends to lovers Romance between two college professors at an idyllic liberal arts university. The most perfect Fall cover that makes me miss walking around my own college campus!

Happy first Monday of August!

I know my content has been sporadic this Summer, but August is always the month I feel like I get back into my routines while still enjoying every minute of Summer. I kicked off the month with fresh reads and a pool day and then got to enjoy a moody, rainy Sunday that included a lot lounging, resting, and reading. I really needed it!

I am in the home stretch of my Summer schedule and I am looking forward to spending August outside and getting ready for a very busy Fall. I am getting the itch, but I am SAVORING Summer. There is plenty of time for cool mornings and cozy evenings come the end of September.

This week, my focus is on enjoying life outside of work. It’s so easy to get stuck in a cycle of wake up, work, come home exhausted and I simply want to enjoy lots of little moments of Summer. Afternoons at the pool, reading on the patio, enjoying lots of food from the grill, going to the beach and spending days at the lake. There’s plenty of time for everything else come September.

I grabbed this book from my TBR on Saturday before I went to the pool purely based on the cover and so far, I am not disappointed! I need something cozy with lake vibes. It’s a grumpy sunshine romance which is one of my favorite tropes.

The Cherry Blossom Boathouse

I wasn’t sure if I was going to read this book based on the subject matter, but I started it Saturday morning and I should have known Tarah would handle any topic with nuance and care while still finding a happily ever after. It’s out tomorrow August 4 and I think it’s going to be one that resonates with a lot of people.

Lost and Found

We’ve been doing a rewatch of Ted Lasso before the new season comes out (I am so excited!) and I forgot how good this show is. It’s fun, funny, and cozy while not being cheesy. I can’t wait to get new episodes with these characters!

Somehow, July has come and gone and here we are living for the hope of it all in August. I truly can’t believe it. July is one of those months that always feels like the days are long but the month itself is incredibly short. Jam packed with grad parties, barbecues, birthdays, and all the beautiful Summer activities. I am looking forward to a slow, languid August. Because it is still Summer, people!

Much to the chagrin of Fall lovers, I am a firm believer that August is the best of Summer. While Pumpkin Spice might be making it’s way back into coffeeshops come the middle of the month, it still Summer to me.

It’s when camps come to an end, vacations occur. I savor every slow morning, every sherbet colored sunset, every Summer read before I inevitably crave a cozy Fall Romance. It’s a magical month and one I’ve come to treasure without feeling the need to rush into the next season.

July was fast paced, exhausting, and packed to the brim with pool days, parties, and work. I still read 6 books, which I’m impressed by because I felt like I only managed a couple chapters a day. Here’s what I thought about them!

The Beach Club by Elin Hilderbrand

I used to read an Elin book every Summer but there are still a few from her backlist I haven’t read. I saw this one was available with my Spotify Premium membership so I decided to give it a listen. It was okay, definitely not a favorite of mine and I’m glad I didn’t use my eyeball reading time for it.

The Summer of Second Chances by KL Walther

I had a great time reading this book! I’ve loved all of KL Walther’s books but The Summer of Broken Rules is my favorite, so I was thrilled she decided to write another book set on Martha’s Vineyard. It was perfectly Summery and though it’s technically YA, the characters are all over 18 and heading to college so it does read a bit older.

Score by Kennedy Ryan

Kennedy’s books are always ones that intense and detailed, and this book was no different. It exists in the same universe as Reel, but can be read as a standalone. However, if you haven’t read Reel, I highly recommend it! Her books trend higher on the spice scale but the emotional impact of what the main characters work through is well worth it.

Chase Me If You Can by Heather Frances

Another storm chaser novel for Summer 2026 and one I really enjoyed. I loved the characters, the intensity of the storm chasing scenes, and the overall plot. I didn’t vibe with the third act break up, but I rarely do. This book more closely resembles the plot of the film Twisters, if you’re looking for something similar.

Lies Between Us by Jessica Goodman

I always crave a good YA thriller in the Summer and I look forward to Jessica Goodman’s each year. I liked the pace of this book, but didn’t love the overall story. It’s still a fun, fast paced read if you’re looking for that vibe for the rest of Summer!

28 Summers by Elin Hilderbrand

A reread I did via audio because I just wanted something I knew would give me Summer vibes. It’s a complicated story (a 28 year long affair, conducted once a year where one of the characters is married) but it definitely gets you thinking about what defines morality, love, power, and human connection.

And that’s all she read, folks! I was hoping for more books this month but it wasn’t going to happen with my schedule. And that’s okay! But August will be my month of leisure, and in that, lots of books will be read! I’m on vacation for most of the month and I cannot wait.

It’s a big year for storm chasing romance novels and so far, I’m loving this book!

We started the new Little House last week and finished it on Saturday during a cozy Summer Storm. We really enjoyed it! I watched the original growing up and read a few of the books. I hope it continues!

I love this documentary series and it always gets me in the mood for football season to return. I loved learning more about Joe Flacco and Cam Ward!

• I’m sad end of season sales have already started—It’s still Summer!!!—but it’s a great time for any pieces you’ve been eyeing if you have a late Summer vacation or Labor Day plans. I’m obsessed with these rainbow striped flip flops, this Lobster baseball hat, and this crochet mini dress.

Happy Monday and welcome back to Turning the Page, my little Monday Refresh going into a new week! I hope everyone had a great long, holiday weekend. We spent ours with family and friends by the pool and it was perfect.

This is a particularly fresh new week as I return to work today for Summer theatre camp. I have enjoyed having June off and while I’m not looking forward to busy days, I am looking forward to being back in a routine. I am an Enneagram 3 and a Capricorn so I thrive in a routine.

Which is great for my content calendar because it keeps me inspired and on schedule!

I love K.L. Walther’s books but something about her Martha’s Vineyard stories really make me happy. I am almost finished with this one and loving it so so much.

The Summer of Second Chances

I am a long time Kennedy Ryan fan and loved Reel, so I couldn’t wait to read this one! It’s my current audiobook and I knocked a good chunk out of it on Sunday while doing chores. It’s rich and juicy and everything Kennedy always brings to the table.

We started this over the weekend and are only two episodes in but it’s cute so far! I think the actress playing Elle is a delight but I’m not sure where the rest of the season will go!

• July’s New Releases—ARE SO GOOD. I am overwhelmed with all the books I want to read and will need to budget accordingly. I’ll be sharing the ones on my radar each week but Maddie put together a fabulous list!

• Obsessed with this eyelet romper.

• A practical item, but I keep these on me when I’m with students!

• The best shorts for long Summer walks or runs.

• My daily wardrobe for camp is anything breathable, movable, and comes with pockets. I got two pairs of these overalls which I think will be perfect!

When June began, I had the intention of making it a reading month. For most of 2026, my brain has been everywhere and anywhere besides in my books. I think that’s a feeling we can all relate to, as the world continues to spin faster and faster and it feels like the 24 hours of the day slip by in a blink.

At least, that’s how I’ve felt.

I’m pleased to report that after a very disappointing May in terms of reading, I read 9 books in June and a few I really, truly loved. Here’s everything I read and thought about them!

Phoebe Berman’s Gonna Lose It by Brooke Averick—When I first saw the title of this book getting a lot of buzz, I didn’t plan on reading it because I thought it was going to be about weight loss. But when I learned it was about a woman turning 30 determined to lose her virginity before her 30th birthday and was witty, fun and heartfelt, I changed my tune. I didn’t love the writing and the ending fell a little flat for me. But it was an easy read overall.

Dolly All the Time by Annabel Monaghan—I think this has to be my favorite of the month! It’s a fake dating/single mom romance set in Rhode Island that has a slight Pretty Woman retelling vibe (without the sex worker aspect). Annabel’s book from 2025 fell flat for me so I was thrilled when this ended up being a five star read for me.

Down with the Shipmans by Meg Mitchell Moore—Another perfect I was excited to read as I’ve loved past books from the author, but this one didn’t land for me. Kinda felt like grown up We Were Liars with three wealthy sisters and their family summer home.

Our Perfect Storm by Carley Fortune—I look forward to a new book from Carley each and every summer! I unfortunately did not like the TV adaptation of Every Summer After (Every Year After on Prime Video) so I was relieved to escape back into her words and find them unchanged. I now want to visit Tofino!

Change of Plans by Sarah Dessen—As a long time Sarah Dessen fan, I knew I needed to read this book set in a small lake town! I really enjoyed the first 200 pages but the ending dragged for me. And I felt like so much of the dramatic action took place off the page, leading to a lot of tellings vs showing.

North Country by KA Tucker—I have been loving romantic suspense as a subgenre so I was pumped to read one from one of my favorite authors! I liked this book a lot as pure entertainment. It is on the long side but it’s entertaining on audio!

The Lowe Job by Grace Alexander—This was marketed as “If Monica Lewinsky had Kris Jenner for a mother” and I’d say that was accurate. It’s juicy and messy but personally…I hated it lol.

In Stormy Weather by Chelsea Curto—My first book by the author and I really enjoyed it! I was fascinated by the weather aspect and loved the romance. A solid four star read.

Stars, Stripes, and Summer Nights by Celeste Dador—I wanted something festive and summery to read and when I read the synopsis it sounded like the Disney Channel Original Movie, My Date with the President’s Daughter. It ended up not being much like that but was a cute YA read anyway.

Happy Monday from a very rainy and dreary Buffalo. Honestly, I’m okay with a rainy day. Sometimes the constant sunshine of Summer (which I’m so grateful for) makes it hard for me to slow down and sometimes I really need to.

I don’t feel like I’m missing out on the season but cuddling up with my laptop today and getting a bunch of work done.

I have been working my way through my Summer TBR and it’s felt so good to be back in a reading groove again. I’m currently reading and loving an ARC of In Stormy Weather. It’s out July 14! One of my favorite things to read about in books is a big storm so this book about two weather obsessed rivals/enemies (he’s also her best friend’s brother) is right up my alley.

And my current audiobook that I just started this morning! It is juicy and messy so far.

We started Company Retreat the other night (we don’t know what to do with ourselves now that we’ve finished Summer House & are caught up on In the City) and it’s so funny! We loved Jury Duty and so far, I think this one is great too!

This is a MUST WATCH!!! It’s on Netflix and we loved it. It does deal with sibling loss and grief, but it so funny and charming and romantic. Might be my favorite movie of the year so far!

I haven’t been listening to too many podcasts lately as I’ve been back in an audiobook era. I did tune into Books Beach and Beyond but typically only listen if I’m interested in the guest!

• The Hill House Semi-Annual sale started and if you’ve been thinking about getting a piece, this is a great time! I love my Ellie dresses and Charlotte dresses.

• I love this gingham dress! It looks so comfortable and perfect for Summer barbecues. Speaking of red gingham, I loveee this PJ Set too.

I totally forgot I never watched season 3 of Sex Lives of College Girls! Putting my Bravo Binge on hold to watch a little scripted television and I’m really enjoying it! I’m also going to start my rewatch of The Summer I Turned Pretty but honestly, the ads on Prime Video are really ruining the vibe.

Speaking of Prime Video, don’t forget Every Year After, the TV adaptation of Every Summer After by Carley Fortune premieres this week! I’m hosting some friends for a premiere party early next week so I’m going to be dodging spoilers but it will be worth it.

I have to admit, I love the new Taylor Swift song for Toy Story 5. But I am in need of some podcast recommendations!

Every Summer, I make a bucket list. I fill it with things I want to do to make the most of my favorite season. Then every year, September rolls around and I haven’t completed even a third of the items on the list.

Not this year.

This year, I am seizing the Summer with both hands and soaking up every sun-drenched moment with my bucket list and I’ll take you along with me!

When putting together my bucket list, I put a few things on there that are already booked like our annual trip to the lake, concert tickets that have already been purchased, and a premiere party for Every Year After on Prime Video.

Then I thought about the things I want to do and know I can make time for: a morning at the Farmer’s Market, a trip to the Drive In movie theater, and a dinner out at a fabulous restaurant with fantastic patio.

I filled in the rest with my reading goals, classic Summer days like a beach day and hike, and something I haven’t done for years, the Renaissance Faire. Once I added those, I added the things I’d like to do but don’t have booked yet: a week long writing retreat, a spontaneous weekend trip somewhere coastal, a baseball game (either our minor league team here in Buffalo or a Blue Jays game in Toronto!), learning to grill, and berry picking at our local CSA farm.

We’re going to do our garden this weekend (later than I’d like but May was SO busy), and I’ll start my rewatch of The Summer I Turned Pretty when my husband leaves for his annual golf trip.

Summer Bucket Lists don’t need to be these expensive or unattainable lists. I think they’re just a great reminder to think about the things you don’t want to slip by during a busy season.

I can’t wait to share my progress along the way and share my favorite reads from my Summer TBR.

It’s June and I couldn’t be happier. As someone who works with kids, November and May are the months I dread the most. They are PACKED with events and everyone is ready for a break. But when they are done, you either get Winter Break or Summer Break. And I am ready for Summer!

I’ve always been a Summer girl but since we moved to Buffalo, I have become even more of a Summer girl. I long for this time of year when the sun doesn’t set til after 9pm, the sun is warm, our pool is open, and we can spend days at the beach. It’s my favorite.

Since May was so busy, I didn’t read as much as I would have liked. But I did read four books that I think many people have thoughts on, so I’ll share mine!

Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke—I had to read this book that caught the attention of everyone on the Internet. I will say, I didn’t see the twist coming, which seemed to be an overall criticism. But I didn’t really enjoy the book overall. I get why it’s so popular, since the Trad Wife content gets a lot of attention on social media, but honestly it made me really angry. I’d love to read a book from Clementine’s POV!

The Shippers by Katherine Center—Katherine Center is a hit or miss author for me and I think this one was a miss. I found it kind of cheesy for my taste and there was SO much going on.

Tropesick by Lauren Okie—Probably my favorite read of the month! It’s an angsty, second chance romance between two writers that are forced to work together on a Romance novel.

The Lake Club by Lina Patton—I was attracted to the title and blurb of this book, but it ended up being another dud for me. It’s out this month.

As I’m writing these reviews, I realized I had a bit of a disappointing reading month. I am planning on making June the month of soaking in all the Summer reads in the sunshine, so hopefully my June wrap up will be much more positive.

I am SO ready for Summer. In the five years I’ve lived in Buffalo, I have to say I think this was the longest Winter. Our first snow was the second week of November and the last time I saw flakes was the beginning of April. It was a LONG, cold, gray Winter and I am simply a better person when the sun is shining and the air is warm.

I usually create a theme for my Summer Reading Guides and this year, all I want is to relax. The last three years have been a lot on me (more on why soon) and I’m so grateful for some time off over the Summer to soak up my favorite season.

First up for the guide, some new releases!

May Releases

The Summer of Second Chances by KL Walther—I love KL Walther’s books so much. This book returns to Martha’s Vineyard and is full of summery tropes I love so much!

Our Perfect Storm by Carley Fortune—I don’t need much to convince me to read a Carley Fortune book but in case you do, this is a friends to lovers romance set in Tofino. It’s moody, summery, and emotional!

Change of Plans by Sarah Dessen—Sarah Dessen returns with a coming of age novel set during the Summer! This time, at a family vacation home our main character Finley never knew existed and is now about to be sold.

Dolly All the Time by Annabel Monaghan—Annabel Monaghan’s book have become a staple of my Summer reading the last couple years. This one is set in Newport, which is one of my favorite places in the world!

Take Me With You by Steven Rowley—Another auto-buy author for me! The description of this book is totally intriguing and I think it will pull at readers’ heartstrings, as Rowley’s writing often does!

June Releases

The Open Era by Edward Schmitt— I’m a tennis fan and even bigger fan of a rivals to lovers sports romance.

Whistler by Ann Patchett—This may surprise some people (IYKYK when it comes to The Dutch House) but after Tom Lake, I’ve become an Ann Patchett fan!

The Missed Connection by Tia Williams—Tia Williams does layered, sexy love stories so well. This follows a casting director who meets the a mysterious man on a flight to Paris and goes to great lengths to find him after not exchanging contact info.

Tropesick by Lauren Okie—Any angsty, emotional second chance romance set in NYC and the Hamptons.

Cece Downing’s Start Over Summer by Soon Wiley—A woman in her early 30’s takes a job as a deckhand on an Oyster boat after losing her corporate job. It’s set in New London, Connecticut and I think will make me miss home! It has romance, summer vibes, and mid-life struggles.

June Releases

Play It Again by Georgia Clark—All my fellow theatre kids, this is the book you need to have on your Summer TBR! Four friends reunite as adults to save the theatre where they grew up. They must face their long-buried secrets, the chemistry they’ve been fighting for years, and have a chance to rewrite the endings of their own stories.

Summerland Cove by Ellen Barker—Family secrets and summer celebrations at a family’s beloved cottage on the beach in Maine! The cover screams Summer read.

Chase Me If You Can by Heather Frances—If you were made there was no kiss at the end of the movie Twisters, add this book about two storm chasers to your TBR!

In Every Possible Way by Alicia Thompson—Bring back creative set ups for rom coms! Main character Jess goes on a bad date with a Irish man, hits her head in the parking lot, and wakes up in Ireland. Color me intrigued!

The Summer Girlfriend by Kristina Forest—This cover? Perfection. Fake dating? An elite trope.

In Stormy Weather by Chelsea Curto—More storm chasers, more rivals to lovers, this time during hurricane season in Florida! One thing about me, I LOVE a good storm moment in a book. The stakes!

Extra-Curricular by Rachel Lynn Solomon—I am SO excited for this book to release! It’s about a former child star who enrolls in college at 26 in order to find some normalcy and the professor whose buttons she loves to push.

Return to Sender by Stephanie Parente— Cara Bastone blurbed this book and as she is one of my favorite authors, I knew I needed to bookmark this book. It’s an opposites attract romance that explores grief, sisterhood and finding love when you least expect it.

Wild Goose Chase by Sarah Adler—Sarah Adler writes some of the most unique romances I’ve read in the last few years and this one, about an antique dealer and a contraband taxidermy goose and his colleague certainly fits the bill!

And now, some backlist favorites of mine! A friend of mine is an exclusive library reader and I always love when she shares her seasonal lists to request from the library. SO many good books release year after year, it’s a great reminder to not get distracted by only the new ones!

This Summer Will Be Different by Carley Fortune—Perfect for fans of Anne of Green Gables, this beachy now and then romance is set on Prince Edward Island.

The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren—This is a juicy, sexy, billionaire romance set on a tropical island that features a marriage of convenience and can be read in one sitting!

Along Came Amor by Alexis Daria—The third book in the Primas of Power series that may be my favorite of all of them! A one night stand turns into a relationship of convenience turns into something more while at a family wedding in Puerto Rico.

32 Days in May by Betty Corrello—An angsty, emotional love story set on the Jersey Shore as Summer blossoms.

Alice Chen’s Reality Check by Kara Loo and Jennifer Young—A woman who doesn’t believe in true love finds herself on a competition reality show that pushes couples to their breaking point.

The Suite Spot by Trish Doller—A sweet, well paced romance on a small island in the lake off Ohio (you weren’t expecting that I bet). It’s a single parent romance and one I think about often!

The Romantic Agenda by Claire Kann—A fake dating romance blooms while on a friend trip to the lake, in order to make another jealous.

The God of the Woods by Liz Moore—For my mystery lovers, you must read Liz Moore. This is a multigenerational mystery set in the Adirondack mountains after a camper goes missing.

Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson—An emotional YA second chance romance that also explores the anticipatory grief of losing a parent.

Maine Characters by Hannah Orenstein—Two women from different backgrounds discover they share a father after his death when he leaves them his precious family lake house.

My All Time Summer Favorites

Every Summer After by Carley Fortune—If you haven’t read this book yet, it’s the perfect time since the series comes out on Prime June 10! It’s one of my all time favorite books. It’s a dual timeline second chance romance that truly feels like Summer to me.

Seven Days in June by Tia Williams—An epic second chance romance between two writers as they reunite for one week in New York City.

28 Summers by Elin Hilderbrand—Summer isn’t Summer without an Elin Hilderbrand novel and this one, loosely based on Same Time, Next Year, is one of my favorites.

Happy Place by Emily Henry—Hot take, but my favorite Emily Henry cause of the friendships, the second chance romance, and the New England summer setting!

Meet Me at Midnight by Jessica Pennington—A fun, flirty YA, childhood enemies romance set at a family lake house!

My Summer TBR

Between backlist books I’ve been meaning to read, a few new releases, and some Kindle Unlimited picks, I want to really enjoy my Summer reading. This is my Summer of rest, my Summer of joy, and there will be no room for anything less than a four star read!

Our Perfect Summer by Carley Fortune—This is the first year I didn’t read Carley’s book early because we’re headed to the lake in June and I wanted to save it! I can’t wait.

Golden Girl by Elin Hilderbrand—I’ve read almost all of Elin’s novels but this one slipped through the cracks a few Summers ago. I’m excited to go to Nantucket!

Pleasant Bay by Emily Wakeman Cyr—A Kindle Unlimited pick that was recommended to me by someone who also loves Every Summer After.

Score by Kennedy Ryan—I’m a forever fan of Kennedy’s and I can’t wait for her latest! It just released this month.

Phoebe Berman’s Gonna Lose It by Brooke Averick—I feel like this is the It Girl book of the Summer?? Everyone’s reading it! And as a Phoebe, it does feel like I’m obligated to see what it’s all about.

It’s a short week and isn’t that the best feeling? I hope everyone who had a long weekend enjoyed it! The sun finally came out and graced us with some summer weather on Sunday afternoon and into Monday. Our pool is open, Summer Break is right around the corner, and I am feeling good.

The Summer weather gives me such a boost and I am looking forward to using this newfound energy to declutter my Winter clothes, clean out the pantry, and upload some new titles to my Pango Books Shop. It’s we’re I sell any books I no longer wish to keep on my shelves!

I’ve shared this in numerous letters, but 2026 has been a reading slump year for me. But there’s no better time to break a slump than Summer! We’re going to the lake soon and I’m saving some of my most anticipated Summer reads for that trip. I think some time away from my laptop and work with uninterrupted reading time will help get me back on track!

Dolly All the Time | Five-Star Summer | By the Bootstraps | The Midnight Train

One of my favorite ways to break a reading slump is reading a novella. This new Summer Lovin’ series on Kindle Unlimited released today and I’m definitely going to read Fallon Ballard’s, Jessica Peterson’s, and Rebecca Jenshak’s!

The Summer House Reunion is HAPPENING. While this has been a slumpy reading year for me, my reality TV binge-fest has been riding HIGH. I’ve even gotten Nick into Summer House! I am so ready and yet, not ready at all for what is about to happen in these three parts. I’ve become quite obsessed in the last five weeks lol.

I’m a guest on the Book Talk Etc. Podcast this week! I’m so grateful Tina and Hannah asked me to come on to talk about books and bookselling at Alice Ever After Books. We had such a fun conversation and it made me miss podcasting so much!

I am starting to think it’s never going to warm up. I’m writing to you from a very sunny day, but we’re still only averaging a high of 50 degrees. I am craving warm weather and spending time on our patio. Until it happens, I will be getting my sunshine and warmth fix from my books.

I’ve been working on my Summer Reading Guide and I’m dreaming of sitting lakeside on a wrap-around porch with these books. Or sticking my feet in warm sand and not moving from my spot on the beach for several hours. June and Summer break cannot get her soon enough!

Seek the Traitor’s Son | First and Forever | Stars, Stripes, and Summer Nights | The Last Page

Over the Winter, I felt like everyone was talking about this book so I assumed it was already out. But then I learned it’s not out until June 16! I scrambled to get my hands on an ARC and I am loving it. The last few weeks my brain has been so full of work and work stress that I’ve been reading so slowly, I knew I needed something to break the cycle. So far, the pacing of this book has me HOOKED. I’m loving it and will share more in my Summer Reading Guide…coming soon :)

I played hooky on Thursday afternoon and caught an early showing of The Devil Wears Prada 2 with my mom. It was a 3 star movie for me. I didn’t like the pacing of the beginning, but thought it hit it’s stride in the second half of the film. I didn’t like what they did to Miranda’s character! Overall, enjoyable but won’t be on repeat like the original.

Nick and I finished our rewatch of Mad Men on Saturday and now need a new show to watch together! Any recommendations?

• The film adaptation of Off Campus premieres this week, May 13! All the episodes drop that day and I’m looking forward to watching it! I binged the books during the pandemic and they were brain candy for me then.

  

• I ordered this gingham skort over the weekend and I LOVE it. I have one from last year that I wore a ton and you know me and gingham! It’s on sale for $24!

  

• As always, I’m obsessed with Cree Wall Art’s designs! I love the vibe of the one for Our Perfect Storm and will need to order it soon.

Hello, May!

I love this month and I kicked it off in the best possible way: with some of my best friends in NYC and celebrating one of my favorite author’s newest book release! If you didn’t know, I lived in Manhattan for six years. It will forever be my favorite home and a place I feel I have unfinished business because we didn’t get to leave on our own terms.

We moved out of the city in late 2020 during the Broadway shutdown due to the pandemic. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever gone through in my adult life. I love it there so much so any time I get to go home, I feel so lucky. And a little sad. I would have stayed there for my whole life.

But, I am looking forward to warmer days and afternoons by our pool as Summer arrives. May has some awesome book releases and I can’t wait to share my Summer Reading Guide later this month!

After a slumpy April, I knew I needed to start the month with a book I couldn’t put down. From everything I’ve read about this romantic suspense/thriller-esque book, it is exactly that! I’ll report back once I’ve finished.

This Story Might Save Your Life

I shared in my April Wrap Up that I am locked in on Summer House…it is the perfect couch rotting/have on while doing admin work in the background show. I was watching an episode yesterday and Nick goes, “These are terrible people,” and I couldn’t help but laugh. But the visuals make me crave Summer!

• Needlepoint Stockings—I have been itching to get Nick, Beasley and I family needlepoint stockings. I love this one from The Plum Stitchery so much!

• I am trying not to shop too much but the Summer styles are calling my name. Obsessed with this striped sleeveless sweater, this red and white gingham mini skirt, these raffia slides, and this lemon print bathing suit!

• Speaking of Summer, my favorite swimsuit from last year restocked in the blue (which I have) but also now comes in a pink and white gingham!

• My favorite pool/beach hat is back again this season and on sale for $29!

I have a confession to make: I had never watched Summer House…before this month. I got sucked into the Amanda/West drama of it all (Team Ciara!) and I am now 3 seasons into the show. It’s messy, dramatic, and maddening. But I can’t stop.

Summer House led me back to Bravo for the first time in a long time. My best friend is a massive Real Housewives fan and I used to keep up with a few of the franchises. But I knew I was going to tune into Rhode Island when it came out and o.m.g. I am hooked. It feels like OG New Jersey/New York and I love it. Alicia is so funny.

And when I tuned in for RHORI, I also watched the new season of Ladies and London which ALSO was fabulous and had me hooked.

It’s been a long time since TV took me away from reading, but April was such a stressful month as we near the end of the school year and the weather was AWFUL. A few warm days, but also some below average freezing days for this time of year. It was perfect “cuddle on the couch and watch brain candy” in the evening weather.

Not to mention, playoff hockey has taken over our lives. I don’t love when I’m not reading regularly. It’s taken many years, but I have accepted that some seasons just aren’t reading seasons and that’s okay.

Now that Summer and the promise of warmer days are on the horizon, I am ready for all the Summer reads that will take up my time. I did still read 5 books!

By the Bootstraps by Alexa Martin—The Cowboy Romance/Friday Night Lights crossover of my dreams! It’s out May 21 and if you want something fun, witty, and sexy, you need to read it.

Finlay Donovan Crosses the Line by Elle Cosimano—I love this series and was SO excited to read this book. But it kind of let me down! I liked it, didn’t love it.

We’re a Bad Idea, Right? By KL Walther—I love KL Walther’s books so much and when I learned this took place of my hometown of Fairfield, CT, I couldn’t wait to dive in. It was such a fun coming of age book and made me so homesick.

First and Forever by Lynn Painter—After reading and loving Fake Skating last year, I was excited to read this one! It’s a quick and easy romance between a Tight End on Chicago’s football team and season ticket holder who gets into a sticky situation with the mascot. A bit of fake dating, a bit of famous person/normal person, and a meddling adorable family.

Love Overboard by Kandi Steiner—Previously, I had only read a Christmas novella by this author so I wasn’t sure what to expect. But it was SO fun and the audiobook is truly so well produced. It’s Below Deck inspired so…should that be my next Bravo adventure?

Happy Monday, friends! April has been a whirlwind of a month and I can’t believe it’s the final week. Our wedding anniversary is this week too!

I am thoroughly wiped out from an incredible Independent Bookstore Day over the weekend. My friend and I went to 6 of the 22 (!!!) indie bookstores in the Buffalo area. If you’re local to me, you can find them all here.

After enjoying the festivities and picking up way too many books, I worked at Alice, Ever After Books all day Sunday. It was sunny and warm and everyone was in such a good mood! Once Winter ends, I am an entirely different person. My friend texted me this morning and said, “It’s rosé on the patio weather,” and I couldn’t agree more.

Unfortunately, it’s a Monday and therefore I am deep into work. But we can dream. Only a five more weeks until Summer break!

We Burned So Bright | Dogs, Boys, and Other Things I’ve Cried About | How to Fake It in Society | One More Round

I am all in on Summer reading these days. I’m working on my Summer Reading Guide (coming soon!) and started this book on audio this morning. It feels very Below Deck-esque and I’ve reignited my Bravo love in the last month so I’m enjoying it immensely. I’ve only read a Christmas novella from this author but I know she’s very loved so we’ll see how I feel about it!

Love Overboard

We’re nearly done with Mad Men (on Season 7, the final season!) and we’re going to miss it when it comes to an end! In addition to Mad Men, we’ve been deep into the NHL playoffs. The Sabres are up 3-1 over the Boston Bruins and play Game 5 at home tomorrow night! It’s been really fun to get into, especially since it’s been 15 years since the Sabres were in the playoffs. The game yesterday was unbelievable!

The Great Divide by Noah Kahan came out last week and I am loving it. I love his music so much and I look forward to some rainy Summer days listening. I don’t know my favorites yet!

I’ve been loving Good Hang with Amy Poehler so much. I love the guests she has on, I love the attention she gives them, and how curious she is.

• If you know me, you know I love a lemon motif. It’s been in my logo for the last 6 years! J.Crew Factory has some adorable lemon pieces right now! I adore these Lemon Beaded Slides, this lemon and blue stripe wrap skirt,

• My favorite outfit in the Summer is linen shorts and a tank top. I love these ones and the new prints!

• This bookish dish towel is so cute and would make a great Mother’s Day gift.

• Speaking of Mother’s Day, I also think these watercolor books are a great gift. Especially if you’re shopping for someone hoping to scroll less!

• It’s been a number of years since I’ve tried Old Navy swimwear, but I am obsessed with this suit and this print!

• I feel like I have a lot of fellow lovers of American Girl Dolls here. I’ve loved catching up on pieces of this interview with Valerie Tripp, who authored all the original books, from CBS Sunday Morning.
