Five years ago today around this time we were getting ready to go to Northwell Health Glen Cove Hospital, I walked my only child into place I never thought would be the last place that her life would end.

It was a Friday.

She was twenty-eight. She was talking. She was eating. She was breathing on her own. She walked in beside me on her own two feet, and forty-one days later I buried her.

I have thought about that walk every day since. The doors. The desk. The forms. The moment I let go of her hand.

People are kind about it, mostly. They say I did what any mother would do. And that’s true, and it doesn’t help, because underneath the kindness I can hear the question they’re too polite to ask, the one I have asked myself ten thousand times in five years.

Why did you take her there?

I want to answer it. Not for them. For you, and for whoever walks their child through those doors next.

What I believed on August 27, 2021

I believed the white coat meant something.

I believed that the letters after a person’s name — the years of school, the training, the oath — meant that when I placed my daughter in their hands, those hands would be careful with her. That they had chosen this work because they wanted to heal people. That they would look at Danielle and see a beautiful young girl, and be kind to her — because I believed a person becomes a doctor or a nurse out of love for people, and cares deeply about getting their patients well.

I believed that a hospital was a place you went to get better.

I believed that if I signed the papers and answered the questions and did what I was told, the people inside that building would do the thing they had spent a decade learning how to do.

I want to be very clear about something: that was not foolish. Every trade has its rules, and every title carries an expectation. You do not go to the butcher when you are sick. You go to the person who was trained for that job — because that is what the training is for, and that is what the title is supposed to mean. It is what the words “trust your doctor” have meant in this country for a hundred years.

I trusted them because trusting them was the reasonable thing to do.

What I know now

I know now that the moment those doors closed behind her, I stopped being her mother in any way that the building recognized.

I was her legal guardian. A court had said so, in writing, since 2011 — guardianship of her person, appointed by a judge, because Danielle was cognitively disabled and I was the one who spoke for her. That is not a sentiment. That is a court order.

In 6,132 certified pages of her medical record, that order does not appear once.

I was kept out of the building for thirteen days. I hired a lawyer. A judge signed an order. It was not enough.

And I know now what was done to her inside those forty-one days, because I have read every one of those 6,132 pages — some of them a hundred times. I know which page each thing is on. I know the dates. I know what her blood grew and when it started growing. I know what was written about my daughter by people who never once wrote down that her mother had legal authority to decide for her.

She did not die of the thing she walked in with. She died of what happened to her in there.

Today, I the first day in 5 years, I look at this painful image of what they did to my child inside of Northwell Health Glen Cove Hospital Oct 6th 2021!

My child is dead!!!!

I held her hands, I screamed, I cried, I could not believe Danielle is DEAD !!!!

Danielle was so excited to see her friend Julia. They were both the same age and Julia worked at Sunrise Assisted living with Danielle when they both were 18 years old.

Where I am now

I live on a small farm in rural Florida. I have chickens, goats, and two dogs who are helping me heal. It is just my husband and me now, far from the reminders of the life we had before.

And I wonder, out here in the quiet: do the people who handled her little angelic body ever think about her?

One of them told me, standing in that ICU, that he has nightmares about my daughter.

I have turned that sentence over for five years. What was it supposed to mean? What did he want me to do with it — comfort him? And does he still have them now, or did they stop once she did?

Does anyone in that building remember her name? Does he ever say it out loud? Has he ever, in the dark, said he was sorry?

I don’t think they ask themselves any of it. I think we were a problem to be managed.

I left New York because I could not stay in the place where it happened.

Northwell signs were everywhere. On the highway. On the buildings. On the badges of people in line at the grocery store. And every day I walked into a beautiful home and passed her bedroom, and it was empty.

I am still trying to comprehend it, and I don’t think I ever will. How do you walk your child into a hospital and forty-one days later she is gone, swollen past recognition, her organs twice the size they should be? That is not something that happens in two days, or three. It took forty-one days to do that to her. Forty-one days of people going in and out of that room, writing notes, signing off, going home at the end of their shifts.

That is the worst nightmare a parent can face. And I keep coming back to the same question: what are those coats for? What is a person wearing one supposed to be?

I filed her case myself, pro se, because attorney after attorney told me no — not because the case was weak, but because of how New York values a life. Our wrongful death statute was written in 1847. It pays for lost wages and funeral costs. Nothing for the life itself. Which means the families who cannot find a lawyer in this state are the families of the disabled, the elderly, the stay-at-home mothers, and the children — anyone whose worth was never measured in a paycheck.

Read that again, because it’s the part people don’t believe when I say it out loud.

The Legislature has passed a bill to fix it four times. The Governor has vetoed it four times.

God has opened the doors for me, I have lawyers now. The case is moving. And on September 28 I will be in Washington, D.C. I hope they choose me to speak, to tell them what a system did to a loving young girl, and what it left behind: a family broken open, carrying wounds that cannot close because there has been no accountability and no justice.

The people who cared for Danielle are still working in the profession. God help the patients left in their hands.

Why I have to keep going

Because she was my only child.

There is no one else. No sibling to carry her name forward, no one else who was in that hallway, no one else who read the pages. If I stop, it stops. Danielle becomes a line in a database and a number in a settlement report, and the exact same thing happens to somebody else’s daughter next month. Her name will have been spoken in vain, and accountability and justice will be set aside again — until the next brave person steps up and fights for the one they loved.

But there’s another reason, and this one is about you.

Nothing that happened to Danielle was unique to Danielle. Not one thing. The policies that kept me out of the building, the dangerous medication given without asking her guardian, the protocols followed while she deteriorated in front of them, the record that could be edited after she was dead — those were not designed for my daughter. Those were systems. Systems apply to everyone.

Which means they apply to your mother. Your husband. Your child. Your grandchild.

If a court order and a legal guardian weren’t enough to protect Danielle, what exactly do you imagine will protect the person you love, when it’s their turn to be wheeled through those doors?

I’m not telling you not to go to the hospital. Sometimes the hospital is the only thing that will save you, and if Danielle were alive today and needed it, I would take her — but only after I had checked that hospital and checked those doctors before I ever stepped foot inside with my precious child.

I’m telling you to go with your eyes open. Do not hand your trust to a white coat until that person has shown you they are there to get your loved one well and bring them home. If they haven’t shown you that, follow your gut.

Too many of us trusted. We saw the signs — I saw them — and we became afraid to ask questions.

Read that again. We were afraid to ask questions. That is not the way it is supposed to be. They should be answerable to us. It is our mother, our husband, our child lying in that bed, and we had it backwards.

So ask what they’re giving. Ask why. Write down names and times. Get it in writing. Do not assume that because someone is kind to you, the system behind them is looking out for you.

I assumed that. I was wrong. And the cost of being wrong was my daughter.

Thursday

August 27. Five years.

I am crying today, and I not the same woman I was in 2021. Every year since, my eyes have opened wider every time I read the records, to things I could not have imagined were possible, and that are still happening right now, while people go about their days.

What I have come to believe is this: too many stay silent. Some because they would rather not look. Some because they have decided it will never be their mother, their husband, their child. And some because if they let themselves see it, their conscience would prick them, and then they would have to do something about it. The rest simply lack the courage — including, I believe, the people who were responsible for my daughter’s care.

I understand the impulse. I had it too, right up until the morning I didn’t have a daughter anymore.

Today I will try my best to trust that God is a God of vengeance, and that Danielle was His child before she was mine. He promised to be the judge. And I know in my heart that as long as I do not let hate take root in me, He will honor this work — because bringing justice is His will, not just mine.

I think often of the widow in Luke’s gospel;Luke 18:1–8, the one who kept going back to the unjust judge. She had no power and no standing. She simply would not stop asking. And in the end he ruled for her, not because he became righteous, but because she wore him down. Jesus told that parable, Luke says, so that His people would always pray and not lose heart.

I am that woman. I know her.

My hope is in Jesus Christ, and I am not ashamed to say His name. He is closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24). He collects every one of my tears in His bottle (Psalm 56:8). He knows exactly what this pain is, because He carried it Himself. And if I keep trusting Him, I believe He will bring justice — not only for Danielle, but for many more.

I will get through the day, and then I will go back to the pages, because the work is not finished. The defense has moved Dr. Iqbal’s deposition to September 21. We have subpoenaed additional witnesses to be deposed in September as well. There are flights to book. In a few weeks I will sit across a table from the people who had my daughter’s life in their hands, and I will listen to them answer questions under oath.

I have waited five years for that room.

She told me she wanted to come home.

I couldn’t bring her home. But I can make them answer for why.

I do not watch regular TV or movies I look for the true stories. Marshall was another one. Stories I knew nothing about until I sat down with them, and then couldn’t stop thinking about for weeks. There’s a reason I keep going back to them, and I finally understand what it is. “They were nobody when they started. So was I.” I can keep going. JUSTICE will Prevail!!! Because it only takes the will to tell the truth, and stand for what is right!

In 1925, David Curtiss Stephenson was the most powerful man in Indiana. Grand Dragon of the Klan. A political machine of hundreds of thousands behind him, governor, legislature, judges, mayors, sheriffs. He said it out loud: I am the law in Indiana. And he was right. There was no institution left in that state that could touch him. I see many men today use those same words!

Then he assaulted a twenty-eight-year-old woman named Madge Oberholtzer, and she died. I’m going to tell you what he did, because softening it is how men like this keep their reputations for a hundred years.

Stephenson had built the whole empire selling himself as the protector of decent womanhood. Temperance. Clean living. Law and order. He rolled into one town after another like a knight in shining armor, waving money around, selling memberships at ten dollars a head and pocketing most of it, while the organization he led drove Black families, Catholics, Jews and immigrants out of their homes, their jobs, and their towns, and worse than that in places where it could get away with it.

In March of 1925 his men took Madge Oberholtzer from her home at gunpoint and put her on a train. In the compartment, he raped her. He beat her. He bit her — her face, her chest, her legs, down to her ankles — again and again, wounds a doctor would later have to count and describe one by one.

And when it was over, when she was torn and bleeding, he would not take her to a hospital.

Think about why. A hospital means a chart. A chart means a record. A record means a question he would have to answer.

She got hold of poison and swallowed it. He knew she had. He still wouldn’t get her a doctor, he offered to marry her instead. Then he had her carried into her parents’ house and left her on the doorstep of her own life.

She lasted about a month. The bite wounds went septic. Between the infection and the poison, her kidneys failed, and she died on the fourteenth of April, 1925.

Before she died, she talked. Weak, dying, in pain, she dictated a statement, what he did, in what order, what she saw, what she said, what he said back. A dying declaration. It was written down. It was signed. And a prosecutor put that piece of paper in front of a jury.

The prosecutor was a young man named Will Remy. Small, quiet, barely into his thirties. Stephenson had looked at him and decided he was nobody, too green, too unimportant to be a problem, not even worth buying. That was the miscalculation that ended him

And understand why that piece of paper mattered so much. In law, what a person says outside a courtroom usually can’t be used, the other side has a right to cross-examine. But there is an exception, one of the oldest we have: the dying declaration. The law assumes that a person who knows they are dying has no reason left to lie. So Madge Oberholtzer, already gone by the time of trial, testified anyway. From the grave. And there was no cross-examining her.

Within two years the most powerful political machine in Indiana was gone.

Not undone by an army. Not by a movement. By one woman’s account of what was done to her body, written down while she still could.

Here’s the part that shook me, and it’s the part I want you to sit with.

The Klan of the 1920s wasn’t a gang of ignorant men in a swamp. Not in Indiana. It was doctors. Lawyers. Dentists. Ministers. Newspaper publishers. School board members. Men in good suits with framed diplomas who went to church on Sunday and believed, sincerely, that they were the respectable ones. The educated ones. The ones fit to decide.

On August 8, 1925, roughly forty thousand of them marched down Pennsylvania Avenue toward the Washington Monument. The Washington Post called it one of the greatest demonstrations the city had ever seen. And here is the detail I want you to hold onto: most of them marched with their faces uncovered.

They didn’t wear the masks. They didn’t need to. They weren’t hiding from their neighbors, because their neighbors were in the parade, or watching it, or writing about it in the paper the next morning. You only cover your face when you think the public will disagree with you. In 1925 they were certain it wouldn’t.

That’s the pattern. Every single time.

Two years after Stephenson’s trial, in 1927, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that a young woman named Carrie Buck could be sterilized against her will. Eight to one. These were Harvard men. The finest legal minds in the country. Justice Holmes wrote that three generations of imbeciles were enough. Carrie Buck was not an imbecile. She had been raped, and her family was poor, and that was sufficient.

More than sixty thousand Americans were sterilized under laws that decision protected. And when the German lawyers stood trial at Nuremberg, they pointed at us. They said they had read our statutes. They had.

Nobody in that story wore a hood. They wore robes and white coats and had letters after their names.

I want to be careful here, because I’ve learned that being right isn’t enough you have to be precise, or people will use your imprecision to throw out everything else you said. So I’m not going to tell you one thing is the same as another thing. I’m going to tell you what the pattern is, and let you look at it yourself.

The pattern is this: a credentialed class decides that some lives are a category rather than a person, and then builds a system where no one is accountable for what happens to that category. Not evil men cackling. Ordinary professionals, following the protocol, certain they’re the good ones, protected from consequence.

Medicine’s own history is full of it.

Ignaz Semmelweis figured out in 1847 that if doctors washed their hands between the autopsy room and the delivery room, mothers stopped dying. He had the numbers. He showed them the numbers. The medical establishment — educated men, every one — ridiculed him, drove him out, and destroyed him. He died in an asylum. Women kept dying for another twenty years while the profession protected its dignity.

At Tuskegee, the United States Public Health Service watched hundreds of Black men go untreated for syphilis for forty years. Forty. Doctors did that. Nurses did that. It ended in 1972 because one employee named Peter Buxtun could not live with it and went to a reporter. One man.

Thalidomide never got into American pregnancies because one reviewer at the FDA, Frances Kelsey, refused to sign off while the company leaned on her. One woman, holding a line, against everyone.

Wangari Maathai was beaten and jailed in Kenya for planting trees and telling the truth about who was stealing the land. Leymah Gbowee gathered women in a fish market in Liberia and would not leave until the killing stopped. Thurgood Marshall drove from town to town, alone, in a country where a Black lawyer could be killed for winning.

And it is never.. never…the powerful who stop it.

Ida B. Wells was born into slavery. When a white mob murdered her friend in Memphis in 1892, she did the one thing nobody expected: she started keeping records. Names. Dates. Places. The accusation, and then the truth behind the accusation, pulled from the white newspapers’ own pages. She published it. They burned her press and ran her out of the city, and she kept publishing. She didn’t argue about lynching in the abstract. She made it specific, and specific is what they could not survive.

Fannie Lou Hamer picked cotton in Sunflower County, Mississippi. In 1961 she went into a hospital to have a tumor removed and came out sterilized — no consent, no conversation, nobody asked. It was so common in that state that people had a name for it. Then in 1964 she sat down in front of the Democratic Party’s credentials committee and described, plainly, what had been done to her and what happened when she tried to register to vote. The President of the United States called an emergency press conference to knock her off the air. It worked for about six hours. The networks ran her testimony in full that night, and the country heard a sharecropper who could not be argued with.

Bhimrao Ambedkar was born untouchable in India — made to sit outside the classroom, forbidden to drink from the common cup. He became one of the most educated men of his generation and then chaired the committee that wrote India’s Constitution, and he wrote the abolition of untouchability into it with his own hands.

Gandhi walked two hundred and forty miles to the sea and picked up a handful of salt. That was it. That was the whole act. An empire that spanned a quarter of the earth had made it a crime for an Indian to gather salt from an Indian shore, and one man in a loincloth bent down and picked some up, and the moral case for the whole arrangement never recovered.

Irom Sharmila stopped eating in Manipur in 2000 after soldiers killed ten civilians at a bus stop. The state force-fed her through a tube in her nose for sixteen years rather than repeal the law she was protesting. Sixteen years. One woman.

Steve Biko died in a South African police cell in 1977. And here is the part that stops my breath: doctors examined him. Physicians looked at a shackled, brain-injured man, wrote what they wrote, and let him be driven seven hundred miles in the back of a van to die on a stone floor. The first inquest found nobody responsible. It took an editor smuggling photographs of his body out of the country, and then years more, before the medical establishment was forced to discipline its own. Doctors. Notes in a file. A dead young man and a record that didn’t match him.

Ken Saro-Wiwa was a writer in Nigeria who told the truth about what the oil companies were doing to Ogoniland, and they hanged him for it in 1995.

Sophie Scholl was twenty-one years old, a student in Munich, handing out leaflets. The Nazis beheaded her four days after they caught her. Four days. She had no army either.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn collected the accounts of more than two hundred prisoners and assembled them into a record so precise that a superpower could not answer it. They didn’t refute him. They couldn’t. They just put him on a plane and threw him out of the country.

And here’s what I keep coming back to: almost none of these were famous when it counted. Most of them were nobody. That’s not a sad footnote, that’s the mechanism.

On the 21st of March, 1960, people in a South African township called Sharpeville walked to the police station without weapons to protest the pass laws — the papers a Black person had to carry to exist in their own country. The police opened fire. Sixty-nine died. Most were shot in the back, running. Not soldiers. Not leaders. Men and women who had decided that morning that they were done carrying the papers.

Sixteen years later, in June 1976, the children of Soweto walked out of their schools because the government had decided they would be taught in Afrikaans. Children. The police shot into them. A twelve-year-old boy named Hector Pieterson was carried out of that street by another teenager, and a photographer named Sam Nzima took the picture, and that picture went around the world and apartheid never got its reputation back. A twelve-year-old. He had no plan to change history. He went to school.

In May 1930, at the Dharasana salt works in India, unarmed volunteers walked forward in columns toward the police line. They were clubbed down. The next column stepped over them and walked forward. Then the next. Hour after hour, and not one of them raised an arm to defend himself. A reporter named Webb Miller counted the bodies going into the makeshift hospital and cabled the story out, and the world read it and understood what the British Empire actually was.

And in 2013 — think about this one — five elderly Kenyans in their seventies and eighties, farmers and laborers who had been tortured in British detention camps during the Mau Mau emergency, won against the government of the United Kingdom. Do you know what won it? Files. Thousands of colonial records the British had hidden away in a warehouse for fifty years, which surfaced only because of the litigation. Old people who had waited half a century, and a stack of documents that finally said what everyone had denied. Nearly six thousand claimants compensated.

Fifty years. They didn’t stop. And the records were the thing.

And I’ll say this plainly, because it matters to me: some of the ones who stood were ministers, and some were the opposite. It was ordained men who built the theology that justified apartheid, and ordained men who mostly kept quiet in Germany. But Beyers Naudé stood in his own Dutch Reformed pulpit and told his own people apartheid could not be defended from Scripture, and they took his congregation and banned him for seven years. Archbishop Janani Luwum hand-delivered a written protest to Idi Amin with his name on it and was dead within days. The collar is no protection from the pattern. It’s what the person does that counts.

Not one of these people had power when they started. Not one. Some of them died. Most of them were called liars first. Every last one of them was told, by reasonable people, that they could not possibly make a difference.

There is a step that has to happen first, before any of it is possible. It happens in the eyes.

No system can destroy a person while it still sees a person. So the seeing has to go first. The name becomes a number. The patient becomes a case. The child becomes a category, a statistic, a bed, a protocol, a type — and once that conversion is complete, ordinary people will do things to that category they would never in their lives do to a face.

That’s the part nobody wants to admit. It isn’t monsters. Stephenson needed hundreds of thousands of neighbors to go along, and they did. Tuskegee needed forty years of staff who filed the paperwork and went home to dinner. It always takes a crowd of unremarkable, frightened, agreeable people who look away because looking is expensive and going along is free.

And what breaks it — every time, in every one of these stories — is somebody putting the face back.

That’s all a dying declaration is. It’s a woman refusing to be a category. It’s the specific, particular, irreducible record of what was done to this one human being, in this order, on these days. You cannot argue with it in the abstract, because it isn’t abstract. It has a name on it.

That is why they fight so hard to keep the records vague. And that’s why I read every page.

So when people tell me I can’t make a difference — and they do tell me — I already know the answer. History gave it to me. It is always one person. It’s the dying woman’s statement. It’s the clerk who won’t sign. It’s the man who calls the reporter. The empires are always bigger, always richer, always better credentialed, and they always fall the same way: someone writes down exactly what happened and refuses to take it back.

My daughter Danielle Cathleen Alvarez was twenty-eight years old. She spent forty-one days in that hospital and she did not come home.

Madge Oberholtzer was twenty-eight years old.

I didn’t go looking for that. I was halfway through the film when they said her age, and I had to stop it and sit in the dark for a while.

A hundred years apart. Two young women the world had decided it could afford to lose. And in both cases, what’s left is a record, and a fight over what that record is allowed to say.

I have her record. All of it, thirteen reams, six thousand one hundred and thirty-two certified pages. I have read them. Not skimmed. Read them, page image by page image, because I made myself a rule at the beginning: nothing goes in a filing, nothing goes in a post, nothing comes out of my mouth in public unless I can put my finger on the page it came from.

What’s in those pages will be tested where it belongs — under oath, on the record, by lawyers, in front of a judge. That’s coming. Soon. And I’m not going to try that case here in a newsletter, because Danielle deserves better than that and so do you.

But I’ll tell you what I’ve learned holding those pages: the system that produced them was built the same way every one of these systems is built. Protocol over person. Category over child.

And underneath all of it, the thing that makes it possible every single time — the settled, comfortable, unexamined confidence that no one would ever have to answer for any of it.

That’s the part they always get wrong.

I know exactly what this morning would have looked like. She would have started reminding me in January. By June the plan would have been settled and re-settled six times, the food, the music, who was coming, what she was wearing.

And it was never just one party. Danielle had two, sometimes three. One at school. One with her camp friends, the camp administrators would plan a whole trip around her day, because they knew what it meant to her. And one at home: the backyard petting zoo, the DJ, the bowling alley, the catered table, the house so full of noise you couldn’t hear yourself think.

She loved every second of it. She loved the attention, not in a selfish way. She just lit up when a room turned toward her. She loved being the special one. She loved knowing she was loved.

That is what I hold onto hardest. From the day she was born until the day she walked into that hospital, my daughter never spent a single moment of her life doubting she was loved. Not one. That was all she ever knew.

Then COVID came. In 2020 there was no party, just us, small and quiet. 2021 was small too. That was the last one: August 5, 2021, three weeks before she went into the hospital.

There have been five birthdays since. Five Augusts with no January reminders. Five summers with nothing to plan. Five birthdays where the house stays exactly as loud as it was the day before, which is to say not loud at all.

People say time helps. What time has actually done is make the silence more specific. In the beginning it was one large absence. Now it is a thousand small ones — the hallway where she sang, the hugs I could set my watch by, the sound of my own name in her voice.

The other silence

There is a second silence in this story, and I want to name it plainly today.

Danielle went into a hospital on August 27, 2021. She was there forty-one days. She never came home.

In the nearly five years since, not one person who cared for her has sat down with me and answered for what happened in that room. Not a call. Not a letter. Not an explanation. When a family asks and asks and is met with nothing, that nothing is a choice somebody made.

So I stopped asking and started filing.

Where we are

I want to be honest with you about where this stands, because so many of you have walked this road with me and you deserve more than a highlight reel.

The case is pending in Nassau County Supreme Court, Index No. 605957/2024.

I filed it myself. No lawyer. No legal training. I sat down and decided I was going to file a medical malpractice case with no idea what I was doing — reading, guessing, learning the forms as I went — and I got it in just before midnight, before the statute of limitations closed that door forever.

I did not know then what I was doing. I know now.

2020 in Southampton, NY

Depositions began in June. Mine was the first — two days of questions about my own daughter’s death. Two days of reliving the worst forty-one days of my life in front of people whose job is to find the seam in my story. I did it. I would do it again tomorrow.

Since then we have deposed three doctors.

On August 21, I will be in New York for the second half of Dr. Iqbal’s deposition. I will be in the room. I will be looking straight at him.

In his first deposition, he never once looked at me.

Not once. Hours in a room together, and he could not lift his eyes to mine. I have thought about that more than almost anything else in this case. A man who stood over a hospital bed making decisions about a young woman’s life, who cannot look across a conference table at her mother.

I will be there on the 21st. I will not be looking away.

The hospital corporation was dismissed on June 30 of this year. That ruling is on appeal, and I want to be clear about what it was and was not: it was decided on a procedural question about capacity to sue — not on whether what happened to my daughter was wrong. The door is not closed.

Expert medical review is underway, and this is the part I lose sleep over. Cases like this live or die on whether a qualified physician will stand up and say, on the record, that the standard of care was breached. That work is happening right now, it is expensive, and it is the difference between a mother’s grief and a legal finding.

Why I keep going

I get asked this. Sometimes kindly, sometimes not.

Danielle spent eight years serving breakfast and lunch to the elderly at Sunrise Living. She made up a song for a resident named Joan Bano and sang it down the halls. She volunteered feeding children. Firefighters called her name from the parade route.

She trusted everyone, and she loved everyone. Color, size, background, personality — none of it registered with her. She did not know racism. She did not know suspicion. She never learned to sort people, because I never taught her to. That was not something missing in her. That is how I raised her, and I would raise her that way again.

She had a disability, and she out-loved every able-bodied person I have ever met.

What I could not protect her from was a system that did not love her back.

So when people ask why I don’t let it rest, I am not doing this to win an argument. I am doing it because my daughter’s life was treated as though it did not count, and I am the only one left who can insist, in a room where it legally matters, that it did.

Five birthdays of silence from them. They should understand by now that I have no intention of matching it.

What I can’t say yet

I know some of you want more. You want the records, the names, the specifics, the whole timeline. So do I. There are things I could tell you today that would take your breath away.

But this is in the courts now, and there is a right place and a right time for every one of those things — under oath, on the record, where it counts for something instead of just making noise. Saying it here first could cost Danielle the very thing I have spent five years building.

So bear with me. The day I can say all of it, I will say all of it. I am not holding back because there is nothing there. I am holding back because there is too much, and I intend for it to land where it cannot be ignored.

What you can do today

I will look at the picture from that last small party, the one where she is grinning like the whole world showed up for her, because in her mind it had, and I will let my heart break again, on purpose, because breaking is what love does when it has nowhere left to go.

That is the whole list.

No recovery for grief. None for anguish. None for the loss of love, companionship, or comfort. The measure of what your child was worth is the measure of what your child would have earned.

New York and Alabama are the only two states in America that still work this way. Delaware was the third until 1999. Every other state lets a family recover for the human loss of a human being.

What that sentence actually does

It does not just limit what a family recovers at the end of a case. It decides which families get a lawyer at the beginning.

A wrongful death case takes years. Expert physicians billing by the hour. Thousands of pages of records. Depositions, motions, appeals. A firm taking it on contingency fronts every dollar against a recovery that may never come.

So the first question is never was this person wronged. It cannot be. The first question is what is the pecuniary loss.

For a surgeon with two children, that number is enormous, and the phone gets answered.

For a disabled adult who never held a job. For a retiree on Social Security. For a stay-at-home mother. For a child. That number is near zero… and the phone stops getting answered.

Nobody in that room has to hold a prejudiced thought. The statute sorts the dead on its own, by what they earned while alive.

Families hear the case may be real, but the damages aren’t there, and they go home believing they must have been wrong about what happened to the person they loved.

They weren’t. They were hearing a statute read back to them.

The part that should end this debate

New York places no cap on pain and suffering for a person who is injured and survives. Our constitution forbids caps. A patient left disabled by negligence can recover without limit.

The pecuniary-loss rule applies only to the dead.

Put those beside each other.

Same hospital. Same negligence. If the patient survives catastrophically injured ….uncapped exposure. If the patient dies, and had no income…. funeral expenses and some medical bills.

Under New York law, killing a patient can cost an institution less than injuring one.

That is not rhetoric. It is two statutes read side by side, and every hospital risk manager in this state already knows it.

I am not suggesting anyone makes a bedside decision on that basis. I am saying no legal system should ever be built so that death is the cheaper outcome. Ours is. For 178 years it has been.

Accountability is not a payout. It is a warning system.

Here is what gets lost when this is discussed as money changing hands.

If hospitals treat patients correctly, they have no malpractice cases.

That is the entire mechanism. Liability is not a penalty bolted onto medicine from outside — it is the feedback loop. It is how a system that harms people finds out it harmed them, and changes.

A hospital that knows it will be held to account staffs differently, escalates differently, and answers a family’s questions differently, because it knows those questions may be asked again under oath.

Remove that feedback for one group of patients and you have not removed it evenly.

They have removed it exactly where the pressure was already lowest. The patient with no income. No advocate. No family nearby. No one likely to sue.

The disabled patient. The elderly patient. The patient on Medicaid. The patient whose decline gets written up as an expected outcome.

Those are the patients for whom the standard of care is hardest to enforce, and New York’s statute makes them, and only them, the patients for whom an institution faces no real consequence.

That is not a gap. That is a target painted on the people least able to defend themselves.

Wrongful Death: New York Governor Hochul Vetoes Grieving Families Act

And the hospitals are not what they were. Independent community hospitals have been absorbed into vast systems. Northwell Health is now the largest private employer in the state, dozens of facilities under one corporate structure. When one system runs that many ICUs, a rule limiting exposure is not an adjustment to a balance sheet. It is a policy setting applied to every bed at once.

Those systems keep lobbyists in Albany year-round. They commission the actuarial studies. They are in the room for every draft.

The family of a woman who died in one of their beds is in the room once, if ever.

Guess which side has won four times running.

What has actually happened

The Grieving Families Act would allow recovery for grief and anguish. Its sponsors wrote that the current law “impacts most harshly on children, seniors, women and people of color, who often have no income or significantly less income, and are traditionally undervalued in our society.”

That is the New York State Legislature describing New York State law.

It has passed both houses four times. In 2022, the Assembly voted 147 to 2 and the Senate 57 to 6. Republicans and Democrats. Upstate and down.

Governor Hochul has vetoed it four times, most recently on December 5, 2025. The stated reason each time: cost to hospitals, insurers, and businesses.

Each veto landed in the dead week around the holidays, disappeared from the news in seventy-two hours, and the session clock ran out before any override.

Four times, no one made enough noise for it to matter.

And the cost argument does not survive the numbers. New York already has among the highest malpractice premiums in the country. It led the nation in total payouts in 2024. All of that is true right now, under the 1847 rule. Whatever that rule has been protecting, it has not been protecting patients or the price of their care.

What we are demanding

Pass the Grieving Families Act, whole. Not a study. Not another year of negotiation. It has passed four times. It needs a signature.

If it is vetoed a fifth time, override it. Two-thirds of both houses. The margins have been far above that. What has been missing is the will to use them after the veto lands.

No medical malpractice carve-out. Among the changes sought before signing was an exclusion for malpractice cases — which would carve out the elderly, the disabled, the chronically ill, and people on Medicaid. The families who need it most.

No age limit on whose child counts. Also proposed: limiting grief damages to parents who lost a child under eighteen. There is no birthday on which a mother stops being a mother.

What you do this week

Find your State Senator and Assembly Member at nysenate.gov and nyassembly.gov. State, not federal.

Call, do not email. Ask one question, and write down the answer:

“Will you vote for the Grieving Families Act, and will you vote to override a veto of it?”

Not do you support families. That produces a statement. This produces a yes or a no.

If they will not answer, that is an answer.

Frederick Douglass said it in Rochester in 1857: power concedes nothing without a demand.

Four times the Legislature made a request. Four times it was refused. What has never been made is a demand.

When there is no accountability, there is no justice for the people we lost, and no protection for the ones still in those beds.

That is what this statute costs. Not in 1847. Right now.

Pass the bill. Override the veto. No carve-out for the hospitals.

The Legislature has done its part four times over. What is left is a signature, and the people who decide who holds the pen.

That part is yours.

They priced justice beyond one family’s reach.

They did not price it beyond all of ours.

I’ve come too far. Danielle deserves the finish line.

Help me carry her there.

No one is a wage.

Everyone is a person.

I am not asking you to fund a verdict. Nobody can promise you one.

A case that gets proven becomes part of the public record. It creates sworn testimony. It creates a factual account of what happened inside a hospital — the kind of account that exists in almost none of these deaths, because almost none of them are ever examined.

That record is what a legislator can hold up when this bill comes back for a fifth time. Not a statistic. Not a sympathy story. A documented case.

For decades, hospitals paid for his brilliance. Now that brilliance stands with a grieving mother. Since 2020, Barry has advised workers on COVID-related mandates and exemptions and served as a pro-bono advisor to the persecuted when few would. Today he runs the Law Office of Barry D. Silberman, with Graham Brownstein as Of Counsel, fighting side by side on Danielle’s case. Barry knows how hospital systems operate, how they bill, and how they defend themselves, because he helped write the playbook they use. There is no one better positioned to take it apart.

Can We Actually Win? Yes.

New York juries hold hospitals accountable every year, returning verdicts in the millions when the evidence of negligence is clear. What kept COVID-era families out of court was never the evidence, it was the immunity shield. I want to take you into a room in Las Vegas.

I was at the Red Pill Expo, surrounded by people who refuse to surrender this country, doctors, lawyers, mothers, veterans, ordinary Americans who see clearly the system that is taking our freedoms away and have dedicated their lives to taking them back.

If you’re wondering about the name: it comes from The Matrix. In the movie, you’re offered a choice. Take the blue pill, and you stay asleep in a comfortable, fake reality. Take the red pill, and you wake up to the truth, and you can never go back. As I look around America, I can see that many prefer the blue pill. They’d rather live in oblivion than look at the facts of what is happening around them. And I understand why, because that is exactly how freedom is taken. Not with tanks in the streets, but quietly, while you are comfortable watching sports and movies, distracted and entertained, while the puppets they installed carry out the plan. By the time you look up, it’s gone, and it’s too late. But once you take the red pill, once you see it, you can never return to the comfortable lie that we are the greatest nation with the best of everything. Because right now, we are not.

At the front of that room stood a man who took the red pill before most of us were born.

G. Edward Griffin is 94 years old. As a young man with a family, he made a decision: he had a responsibility to stand up and do what was right — for his family, and for his fellow Americans. He has been sounding the alarm ever since, decades before most of us were paying attention, and he is still sharp as a needle. I have never met anyone his age with his knowledge, his clarity, his fire. And his message to us was the same one he lived: we all have that responsibility. Every American does.

And what he told us, I need you to hear.

He reminded us of the oldest strategy in The Art of War: the supreme victory is to conquer without fighting a war. How do you conquer a people without firing a shot? You convince them the war is already over. You make them believe they have already lost. Because a people who believe they’ve lost will hand over everything, their rights, their bodies, their children’s future, without a struggle. Their despair does the conquering for them.

That is exactly what the enemy of freedom wants you to believe right now: that it’s over. That the system is too big. That resistance is pointless. That you should keep your head down, stay comfortable, and hope the storm passes over your house.

Then someone asked Griffin the question we are all secretly asking: Can it actually be done? Can this country really be turned around?

And this 94-year-old warrior, who has watched this battle for seventy years, said:

“Yes.”

Yes, but not by hoping. It will only happen if each of us finds our role and takes it up, political, educational, legal, medical, spiritual. He said we have a responsibility, every one of us, to start talking to our friends and neighbors. To become part of our local governments, the school boards, the town councils, the county health departments, and work our way up, level by level, to the highest offices in the land. To stop thinking they won, and start believing it is possible to turn this country around.

I stood in that room and I wept. Because I know exactly what happens in an America where the fight is abandoned. I know what it costs when the protections we assume are automatic turn out to be decorations.

I buried the proof.

Is the Constitution Still Enforced?

Before I tell you my story, sit with the question Griffin’s warning leads to.

We call ourselves the land of the free. We send our sons and daughters to fight for freedom overseas. We recite the Pledge and tell our children they live in a nation of laws, a nation where the Constitution protects them.

But a right that is not enforced is not a right. It is a decoration. Due process that can be suspended in an “emergency” is not due process. Consent that can be overridden by a protocol is not consent. A court order that a corporation can ignore without consequence is not law, it is a suggestion. And a country where courthouse doors can be bolted shut by liability shields, where families are told no one can be held accountable, no matter what happened, is not the country our founders built or our veterans died for.

Freedom is not what’s written on parchment in Washington. Freedom is what happens to you, in a hospital room, in a courtroom, in the moment you say “no” and someone with more power decides your “no” doesn’t matter.

I did not understand this five years ago. I was like most Americans: busy, trusting, sure the rules protected us. I believed the Constitution was a shield that worked automatically.

Then it was tested on my family. And I found out.

What Five Years Have Taught Me

Nearly five years ago, on August 27, 2021, I walked my daughter, Danielle Cathleen Alvarez, into Northwell Health Glen Cove Hospital with a cough. Forty-one days later, she was gone. She was 28 years old, a young woman with special needs who could not speak for herself, which is exactly why I had gone to court years earlier, spent my own money, and become her court-appointed guardian: so that no one could ever make medical decisions for my daughter without me.

A court of law in the United States of America recognized my authority to protect my child. And when the moment came that it mattered most, I learned what that recognition was worth inside those hospital doors.

Our lawsuit continues in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, challenging, among other things, the immunity shields built to keep families like mine from ever getting answers. I will not lay out our case here; that battle belongs in the courtroom, and we intend to win it there. What I will tell you is what this fight is really about, because it is so much bigger than one family:

If the rights of a citizen can be suspended by a protocol, an emergency declaration, or a corporate policy, then none of us have rights. We have permissions. And permissions can be revoked.

That is why I’m still here, five years in, when people tell me to give up. They say this case has consumed my life. That I’m not the same person anymore. They’re right about one thing: I’m not the same. The woman who believed the system worked automatically is gone. Comfortable silence is gone. I can’t unsee what I’ve seen.

But give up? Griffin isn’t the only one history offers as an answer to that.

The Ones Who Refused to Stay Silent

Every generation faces its moment, the moment when comfortable people must choose between silence and conscience. And here is what I’ve learned studying the ones who chose conscience: they were ordinary.

Virginia Hall was an American woman with a prosthetic leg who became one of the most hunted resistance operatives in Nazi-occupied France. Carl Lutz was a mid-level Swiss diplomat who used paperwork to shield tens of thousands of Jews in Budapest. Freddie and Truus Oversteegen were teenage girls when they joined the Dutch resistance. Johan van Hulst was a schoolteacher who smuggled Jewish children to safety in baskets. Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a pastor who could have stayed safe in America, and instead went home to Germany to oppose evil, and was executed for it.

Fannie Lou Hamer was a Mississippi sharecropper who was beaten and thrown off her land for trying to vote, and kept going. Rosa Parks was a seamstress. Malala Yousafzai was a schoolgirl who survived a bullet for saying girls deserve education. Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer nobody had heard of.

Not one of them was superhuman. Every one of them paid, with jobs, safety, reputations, peace, and sometimes their lives. Every one of them was told, at some point, to stop. To move on. To be reasonable. To heal quietly.

And every person alive today who enjoys the freedoms they secured is living off a fight they never had to join.

And then there is Vera Sharav. She was not in that Las Vegas room, but her voice belongs beside Griffin’s. A Holocaust survivor and medical ethics advocate, she has been sounding the alarm since she was a young woman about the dehumanization of entire classes of people, how atrocity always begins by declaring some lives less worthy than others. And in 2020, she stood up and gave the warning that stopped me cold: she said what was happening with COVID echoed the Holocaust, that this time, instead of a yellow armband to mark the excluded, it would be a vaccine passport. Fear-driven policy. Weaponized medicine. The dehumanization of the vulnerable. And above all, the silence of good people. Her warning rings in my ears every single day:

“Never Again” is not a memorial. It is an assignment.

The Fighters and the Bystanders

Here is the hard truth nobody wants to say out loud.

In every era, there are two kinds of people. The fighters, who pay with their lives, their money, their jobs, their relationships, their peace. And the bystanders, who “go along to get along,” keep their heads down, stay comfortable in front of the game and the movie, and hope the storm passes over their house. The blue pill people. The system counts on them. It needs them.

And when change finally comes, who benefits? Everyone. Including the ones who never lifted a finger. The bystanders inherit the safer hospitals, the restored rights, the accountability that fighters bled for. That has always been how it works. The people who stayed silent during the civil rights movement still got to live in the better country it built.

I’ve made my peace with that. I fight anyway. But I would rather fight with you than for you.

So I have to ask you directly: which one are you? Are you okay with the way things are? Are you content to go along, hoping it doesn’t happen to your family? Or are you just waiting, like I once was, until it’s your daughter, your mother, your son, and it’s too late to fight before the loss?

I did not choose this fight. It came through my front door and took my child. The only choice I was left with was the one every mother in history has faced when justice is limited: curl up in a ball and die, or scream from the mountaintops while there are still innocent lives to save.

I chose the mountaintop. I will die on it if I have to.

Follow the Money: Who Owns Your Hospital?

Here is what I’ve come to understand in these five years, and it’s bigger than one hospital: Wall Street must generate profits, even if those profits come from our demise.

This is not a metaphor. Look at what researchers and bipartisan Senate investigations have documented:

Private equity firms now own or operate roughly 488 U.S. hospitals, and by some estimates 5–13% of American nursing homes, with billions more flowing into assisted living. Their playbook is no secret: buy the facility with heavy debt, sell the real estate out from under it, slash the staffing, extract the fees and dividends, and exit in a few years with the returns, leaving patients, nurses, and communities holding the wreckage.

The human cost is documented in the research: private equity hospital ownership has been linked to a 13% increase in emergency department mortality and a more than 25% rise in hospital-acquired conditions, falls, infections, the things that happen when there aren’t enough nurses. In nursing homes, private equity ownership has been associated with roughly 11% higher resident mortality. In America. Right now.

When investors need their exit in three to seven years, and your grandmother needs care for the next twenty, whose timeline do you think wins?

And don’t let the word “nonprofit” comfort you. Even the “nonprofit” giants have joined the game. Northwell Health, New York State’s largest healthcare system, the system where my daughter spent her last 41 days, is a nonprofit on paper. But it operates its own for-profit investment arm, Northwell Holdings, which states in its own words that its strategy is built on “striving for private equity and venture class returns” and creating “diversified revenue streams” for the health system. Read that again. A hospital system telling you it seeks private-equity-class returns. Nonprofit is a tax status. It is not a moral one. When the mission on the wall says healing and the strategy in the boardroom says returns, you deserve to know which one governs your loved one’s bed.

This is the machine. This is why the vulnerable, the disabled, the elderly, the ones who cannot speak for themselves, the ones like my Danielle, are the ones who pay first. The system doesn’t need to hate you to harm you. It only needs you to be worth more sick than well.

And a machine like this can only run in a country where the Constitution has become optional. Where consent is a formality. Where accountability is shielded. That is why the constitutional question and the healthcare question are the same question. You cannot fix one without fighting for the other.

Silence Is No Longer a Choice

If we stop exposing this — if the fighters go quiet, if the mothers stop writing, if the cases stop coming, it will not stay the same. It will get worse. Systems that face no consequences do not reform themselves. They expand. More trees will fall in the forest of American healthcare, and the harvest will continue, and it will be called “care.”

My faith has taught me, the hard way, to trust the Lord in the valley, to give thanks even through tears, and to fight for truth with resurrection hope. I believe I will see Danielle again. Until that day, I am her voice, and I have a conscience that will not let me stop.

To those who think I should give up: this fight has changed me, but not for the worse. It has burned away everything shallow and forged purpose from pain. And now I carry Griffin’s answer with me: yes, it can be done. If a man can fight for freedom for seventy years and still stand at 94 saying yes, then who am I to quit at five? And who are you to never start?

One day, someone you love will walk through hospital doors. Whether the Constitution follows them through those doors is being decided right now — in courtrooms like ours, in rooms like the one in Las Vegas, in the choice you make when you finish reading.

Don’t be the bystander who inherits the world the fighters built. Be one of us.

I am Danielle’s mother. My daughter, Danielle Cathleen Alvarez, was 28 years old when she walked into the emergency room at Northwell Health Glen Cove Hospital on August 27, 2021 with a cough. Forty-one days later, she was dead. I have written before about what the medical records show. Today I want to write about something different: what it was like to sit in depositions and listen to the doctors who treated her.

I thought I was prepared. I was not. I was in for a wake-up call.

They Would Not Tell the Truth

Deposition after deposition, I watched the same thing happen. Doctors who had my daughter’s life in their hands could not — or would not — give straight answers. They avoided telling the truth. They avoided taking responsibility for their own decisions in Danielle’s treatment. Simple questions became exercises in evasion. “I don’t recall.” “I can’t speak to that.” “That wasn’t my role.”

But here is the thing they could not escape: the medical records. Everything they did to Danielle, they wrote down. Every medication/drug. Every dose. Every decision. Every failure to monitor. The records are the evidence, and the evidence is in their own handwriting, their own charting, their own words. They never imagined a mother would read every page. And here is what chills me most: in my view, this was not carelessness. They were willful. They knew what they were doing — and they documented it anyway, step by step, dose by dose. In deposition, they were being asked to explain their own notes — and they couldn’t.

The Objections

And every time a question got close, every time a question was about to expose how senseless the treatment was….the defense lawyers objected. Objection. Objection. Objection. The rhythm of it still rings in my ears.

I understand that everyone is entitled to a legal defense. But I sat there asking myself: what kind of person spends their career protecting people who did what was done to my daughter? If you become a doctor, I believe it should be because you truly care about making people healthy, about making them better. And I believe the same standard should apply to the attorneys who choose to defend them. I will say it directly: attorneys who defend the blatant treatment my daughter received, treatment that led her to a painful death, should be ashamed of themselves. What I saw instead was a wall of professionals whose job, as far as I could tell, was to keep the truth from ever being spoken out loud.

I honestly believe that if the American people could watch these depositions — if they could see how doctors behave when they are finally asked, under oath, to account for what they did — they would never look at a hospital the same way again.

“By the Time We Saw Danielle, Around September 7th...”

There was one moment in the depositions that stopped my heart.

A doctor testified that by the time they saw Danielle, it was around September 7th.

September 7th. Danielle was admitted on August 27th. That means my daughter was going into organ failure in less than ten days of being “treated” at Northwell Health Glen Cove Hospital — and I am hearing about the timeline of her collapse, in these terms, for the first time in a deposition, years after her death. They never, ever told me she was going into organ failure. Not once. Not a phone call, not a conversation, not a warning. Her mother, her court-appointed guardian, left in the dark while her organs shut down one by one.

What was happening to her in those first ten days? The records tell us: a 10-day course of Remdesivir I never consented to as her court-appointed guardian, double the recommended duration. Drugs given without my consent. And by early September, her body was already failing. On September 6th, she suffered a heart attack inside that hospital. By the time some of these doctors say they even laid eyes on her, the damage was done, and then it continued for another month, until every organ in her body had been destroyed.

They did not treat my daughter. In my heart I believe they destroyed her body, piece by piece, and used her as a cash cow. The hospital billed $648,571 for those 41 days. Remdesivir alone: $18,720. Danielle came in with a cough. She left in a coffin.

And understand this: my child was healthy before she ever walked through those doors. Healthy heart. Healthy kidneys. Healthy liver. Healthy organs, every one of them. Look at her. Look at my beautiful girl before Northwell Glen Cove got hold of her:

It is very hard to see these pictures, I have to for you to understand. This is my Danielle a precious life they destroyed in 41 days.

You Have No Rights

If you had been present in these depositions, you would never walk into a hospital again. That is not an exaggeration. That is my testimony as a mother who lived it.

Because here is what those depositions taught me: once you pass through those hospital doors, you have no rights. I am Danielle’s court-appointed guardian. When she turned 18, I spent my own money to hire an attorney and go through the courts to secure that guardianship, for exactly one reason: so that nothing like this could ever happen to her. So that no one could ever make medical decisions for my daughter without me. That legal protection, recognized by a court of law, meant nothing to them. They administered drug after drug without my consent as if that paper did not exist. They broke every rule and never called me. Not when she went into organ failure. Not when her heart stopped. If it can happen to Danielle, with a court-appointed guardian, with a mother fighting for her every single day, it can happen to anyone. To you. To your child.

And they are protected. Protected by their licenses. Protected by their corporations. Protected by rows of attorneys whose objections rain down the moment truth gets close. In my eyes, a medical license became a license to do what they want in the name of Covid-19, and they used it fully. That is my conviction after reading every page of my daughter’s records and hearing every evasive answer under oath.

I will say what I believe plainly: what I saw was not healing. It was worst because they are glorified drug-pushers for the corporations they work for. And the attorneys defending them? Glorified titles whose job is to keep the medical industrial complex alive, not the patient. I have found myself thinking that the mafia may have had more compassion than this glorified healthcare machine, because at least the mafia never dressed its business up as care. What I witnessed was unconscionable, unbelievable, unconscionable people, and at the end of it all, a bill for $648,571. Blood money, demanded from Cigna PPO of the young lady with special-needs they destroyed. I believe the Medicaid bill will expose more.

Danielle paid with her body. We paid with our hearts. And they sent an invoice.

The Ventilator

There is more. In the depositions and in the records, I learned details about the machine that breathed for my daughter for 31 consecutive days. The ventilator was set on high pressure. Think about what that means, pressure forced into the lungs of a young woman, day after day, week after week, while she lay sedated and restrained, unable to say “stop,” unable to say “it hurts,” unable to say anything at all. Her autopsy would later show lungs rigid like rubber. And this is only part of what I know now.

I will say this to my readers: wait until I can reveal the rest. What I have seen in these records and heard in these depositions is worse than the worst nightmare you have ever had — and it is taking place right here, in the great United States of America, under the name of health care.

This Is Not Health Care. It Is Killcare.

I have a new word for what I witnessed: killcare. Killcare for the people who are disposable in their eyes, the disabled, the elderly, the ones who cannot speak for themselves, the ones like my Danielle. And the greed keeps expanding. The money machine needs more bodies and more lives, because it needs to pump out profits for the shareholders, while the CEOs of these places take home compensation in the millions, while you suffer, and your loved one suffers in pain.

When I look at those 41 days through the records, I see it clearly now: in my eyes, they rigged everything to extract the most they possibly could from my daughter’s body. Every drug had a price tag. Every day on that ventilator was billable. Every procedure, every infusion, every line placed into her, a charge on an invoice that grew to $648,571. Danielle was not a patient to them. She was revenue.

So I ask you, and I ask America:

Is this health care? Is this real medicine? Is this “the greatest health care in the world” when you look around and you do not see anyone doing well? When the people of this country are only getting sicker and sicker, year after year, while the industry that is supposed to heal them grows richer and richer?

Ask yourself how it is possible that the United States spends more on health care than any nation on earth, and yet our outcomes rank at the very bottom of the wealthy world. Even the legendary 87-year-old investor Jeremy Grantham, a man who spent sixty years studying money, not medicine, raised the alarm on Steven Bartlett’s podcast, The Diary of a CEO. Speaking about America’s collapsing birth rate and fertility crisis, Grantham pointed to maternal mortality….mothers dying in childbirth, and asked how it is possible that a country that is more or less the richest in the world performs 50% worse than the next worst. He said there is no better definition of civilization than looking after the mothers giving birth. And he tied it all to the same disease I saw in that hospital and in those deposition rooms: a society that has chosen short-term profit over human life.

When an investor who managed $165 billion is telling you the system has sold out its own mothers and babies, believe him. I don’t need his charts to know it. I buried the proof.

Land of the Free?

We call America the land of the free. We police other countries. But ask yourself: what freedom do we really have, when we are not even free to choose what goes into our own bodies? When a court-appointed guardian, a mother, can be ignored while drug after drug is pushed into her daughter’s veins? We do not have rights to our bodily autonomy, and without that, what freedom is left?

Look at the contradiction we are living in. In this country, a child can be given the freedom to remove her breasts or his genitals, decisions that will change a body forever, and yet that same person does not have the right to simply say no to a poison shot. Nothing makes sense anymore. I do not understand why something so simple — the right to say what enters your own body, is not understood by so many people for what it is: the most basic freedom a human being has.

I have been trying to comprehend how we got to this point. How did we arrive at a place where 90% of Americans do not see that we are losing our rights, right now, in real time, one consent form ignored at a time, one mandate at a time, one hospital protocol at a time? I did not see it either, until it took my daughter. I am praying you will not have to learn it the way I did.

Doctors Who Do Tell the Truth

The contrast could not be more painful. On one side, a doctor speaking openly about what he witnessed. On the other, a row of physicians flanked by lawyers, refusing to answer the simplest questions about a 28-year-old young lady with special needs who could not speak for herself.

Danielle could not speak for herself. I was her voice then. I am still her voice now.

Why I Keep Writing

Our case, filed in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Nassau County, against Northwell Health, Northwell Health Glen Cove Hospital, and more than 40 named physicians, physician assistants, and nurses, is ongoing. What I share here is my account, my experience, and what I heard with my own ears in those depositions.

I keep writing because I promised Danielle. I keep writing because no mother should learn in a deposition, years later, that her child was in organ failure within ten days of walking into a hospital with a cough. And I keep writing because the records don’t lie, even when the people who wrote them won’t tell the truth.

At our 10 year anniversary

Steve never had a biological child of his own, yet for fifteen years he stepped fully into the role of father to our daughter Danielle. He didn’t just “help” or “support”, he became the father she needed. From the moment he entered our lives as my rock when I was a single mother, to the day he became my husband, Steve showed up consistently, lovingly, and with a joy that balanced our family perfectly.

Danielle and Steve shared a special bond that still makes me smile through tears. She would hear him answer the phone saying, “This is Steve from Henry Schein,” and she’d call him “Steve from Henry Schein” over and over with a big grin. Or Steve would playfully say, “Danielle, I must…” and she would finish with “break you!” their own little movie-reference game that always ended in giggles. Steve has a wonderful sense of humor and loved teasing that I “don’t laugh at his jokes.” But the two of them laughed constantly.

One of their favorite rituals was singing “Bad girls, bad girls, whatcha gonna do when they come for you?” Steve would belt it out, and Danielle would repeat every word right back to him, singing along and dissolving into giggles. They were two peas in a pod when it came to fun and laughter. Steve was quick with a joke and completely unafraid to be silly. They would team up to gently tease me because I was always the “uptight and serious” one. Growing up in a British colony with strict “queen manners” expectations, I carried a heavy sense of propriety and worry. Steve and Danielle knew how to *live*. They taught me what it looks like to be free, to let loose, to play, and to embrace joy without overthinking.

We traveled together to Cyprus to meet the renowned Dr. Georgio for detox supplements and frequency machine treatments at the Da Vinci clinic. Everyone fell involve with Danielle, from the host, at the hotel, to the young lady Veronica we hired to help us with Danielle while we were in training at the clinic.

Steve stood by us through every effort to help Danielle thrive. I even brought home a hyperbaric oxygen chamber (like the one Michael Jackson had) to support her healing and independence. The massive glass chamber arrived by crane, oxygen tanks were set up, and neighbors would stare as the gas company filled the tanks, sometimes sending a white cloud through the yard. They probably thought I was crazy, but Steve supported every step I took to give Danielle the best chance at a healthy life. Steve knew my mission is first to be a mom and make sure Danielle is healthy.

Movie nights were sacred. Danielle loved settling in with us, but she’d often drift off after just ten minutes. I’d remind her, “If I’m going to play the movie, you can’t fall asleep!” Steve would just smile as she snuggled in safely on the sectional, completely relaxed and protected in his presence. He was so kind to her and never once questioned his role as her dad.

I remember how protective I was, especially in public. Whenever we were out, I’d tense up if Danielle started talking to strangers. She was so friendly, so full of love and empathy. Steve would calmly say, “Leave her alone. Let her talk to them.” He trusted her spirit while quietly watching over both of us. Everywhere we went, I knew my husband had our backs.

Steve wearing Danielle’s ear muffs. One memory that still makes my heart drop happened at the outlet mall. Danielle needed to use the bathroom, and the closest one was around the building. Steve took her. She came out before he did, and suddenly we couldn’t find her. I was screaming her name, panic rising. Those three minutes felt like a lifetime. But she came around the corner, safe and smiling. Steve’s steady presence gave me strength.

Traveling with Danielle was always an adventure because of Steve. She *had* to speak to the pilot the second we boarded a plane. I would try to hold her back, anxious as always, but Steve would allow it with a grin, he understood her joy. She adored cruises. On her first one, she was determined to finish every bite on her plate even though it was too much. She ate, then cried and got sick. After that, when Mommy said “stop,” she stopped. Seeing her so happy, surrounded by people, children, and life, was everything. Steve helped make those joyful memories possible.

Danielle was the happiest person I have ever known. Her laughter, her love, her light, they filled every room. And Steve helped nurture that light.

On this Father’s Day, I want to publicly thank and honor my husband. Steve, you were the father Danielle deserved. You brought laughter, protection, patience, and freedom into her life. You stood with us through everything. Even now, your love and support continue to hold me up.

I am deeply saddened, heartbroken beyond words, that someone as pure and joyful as Danielle could be taken from us through what I believe were heinous acts by doctors and nurses who chose protocols over compassion, profit over people, and indifference over life. She should still be here, singing silly songs with you and ganging up on me with jokes. But her spirit lives on, and so does the fight for justice and truth.

Steve, thank you for being the father figure who loved her so well. Happy Father’s Day. I love you, and Danielle loved you too—with her whole heart.

This past week, my husband Steven and I flew into New York on the 3rd for a pack week of engagements and my deposition, another difficult but necessary step in the fight for justice for my daughter Danielle.

What I didn’t expect was how much light, strength, and connection I would find in the middle of it all.

Meeting New Members of My Tribe: An Afternoon of Courage, Truth, and Inspiration

Vera Sharav is a Holocaust survivor, human rights advocate, and founder of the Alliance for Human Research Protection. For decades, she has been a fearless voice for medical ethics, informed consent, and patient rights. Having survived some of history’s darkest atrocities as a child, she has dedicated her life to ensuring that human dignity and individual rights are never sacrificed in the name of science, medicine, or government policy.

At 89 years old, she is a force of nature. While my feet were hurting from walking around New York City, Vera kept going with an energy that left me in awe. Her strength, resilience, and courage are undeniable. She carries herself with a determination and purpose that inspire everyone around her. Spending time with her was both humbling and motivating. She is truly someone I aspire to be at 89, still standing strong, still fighting for what I believe in, and still making a difference in the lives of others with unwavering conviction and grace

Margaret Anna Alice’s poem “Mistakes Were Not Made” an anthem for justice, is one I share with everyone I know who does not believe me. Her literature and writing are incredibly deep and eye-opening in these times. She showed such kindness and genuine care during our lunch. Her dedication to sharing Danielle’s story with everyone, including speaking about it at the Better Way conference in Rhode Island, speaks volumes about the goodness of her heart. She is deeply committed to helping me get justice for my daughter.

Anne Gibbons, a fellow New Yorker and talented illustrator, brought her own unique perspective, creativity, and warmth to our lunch. Her passion for storytelling through art and her ability to capture the human experience with both honesty and beauty were inspiring. Anne’s kindness, thoughtful insights, and genuine spirit made our time together even more meaningful. It was a privilege to share conversations with someone whose creativity is matched by her compassion and dedication to others.

From the moment we sat down, I felt it, these women are my tribe. They are movers, shakers, and truth-tellers who refuse to stay silent and will not look away from what is happening in our world.

Spending hours with these women, sharing stories, exchanging ideas, and talking about real change, filled me with incredible emotional strength. It gave me the courage I needed as the painful day of depositions approached. After fighting alone for so long, being surrounded by this kind of support meant everything. We come from different backgrounds, states, and races, but we stand together for what so many choose to deny. Acknowledging the truth would prick their conscience and force them to act.

As they say in the old Western movies, too many have become “yellow bellies.” Sadly, many Americans today seem detached from basic moral right and wrong. But not these women. My tribe is growing, and the momentum is real.

A Powerful Friday on the Radio on Friday

Friday brought even more powerful moments. We were guest on Jeremiah Hosea’s The Bassline medical freedom dedicated radio show. This was an encounter I could not believe. We were also in the studio of Gary Null, the man whose radio show I was listening to accidentally 26 years ago. He was the first person who alerted me, when Danielle was about 7 years old, to the dangers of Ritalin and Adderall (what he called the number one stolen prescription, and gives people a high as cocaine if injected). Now, all these 20 something years later, we were together in Gary Null radio studio and I am hearing his voice live, with Margaret and Tricia. Full circle.

Jeremiah, kindly opened the floor for me to speak about my fight for Danielle. Margaret Anna Alice shone a bright light on what is really going on and the history that brought us here.

Then my attorney, Tricia Lindsay, joined us. Some people call her a “badass attorney,” and after spending time with her, I understand why. Tricia is a civil rights and constitutional law attorney who spent more than two decades as a teacher and school administrator in the New York City and Yonkers public school systems before becoming a lawyer. Throughout her career, she has been a fierce advocate for children, families, civil rights, and educational equity, giving a voice to those who are too often ignored. Her experiences in education fueled her desire to fight for justice in the courtroom and to challenge systems that fail the very people they are supposed to serve.

Tricia saw what the system was doing, and instead of looking away, she chose to stand up and speak the truth. She is determined to make a difference and help create a safer, more just world for future generations. Her story of fighting to help special-needs children succeed alongside their peers, encouraging them, empowering them, and refusing to isolate them, resonated deeply with me.

I fought many of those same battles years ago as a single mother with the New York City Board of Education.

“On paper it was an IEP, an Individualized Education Program. In practice, it often felt like an Institutional Earnings Program, where the $$$ label mattered more than the learning.”

“Children are not funding streams. An IEP should be about potential, progress, and education—not profit.”

What was called a “special-needs classroom” often felt more like a holding cell than a place of learning. At the time, I did not understand how classifications and funding worked within the system.

Danielle wore many labels, and each one came with a price tag for the school to bill, but there were no results. I only knew that my daughter was capable of far more than what was expected of her. When I pulled her out of school to pursue a different path, the school lost their payments for an education that my Danielle did not received. I found myself facing CPS knocking on my door. ( I didn’t even know what CPS was)

CPS worker called Danielle’s case manger Ingrid and said, this mom is doing everything for her daughter, and found nothing that would even justify sending someone to my home. (My daughter’ Case Manger Ingrid after so many years, met us drove us to the Law office)

I took Danielle to Institute for the Achievement of Human Potential in Pennsylvania, which helped me transform Danielle’s health and quality of life. Through dietary changes, exercise, and a different approach to learning and development, Danielle blossomed. She thrived after coming off Ritalin and other medications that had been prescribed for what the school labeled as ADHD. I watched her become healthier, happier, and more engaged with the world around her.

I guess that is where I first became an advocate for Danielle and many others. My dream was to create a charter school where special-needs children could learn through gardening, growing their own food, movement, and hands-on experiences. The idea was inspired by the principles I learned at the Institute.

Speaking to Tricia, Alix, Vera, Margaret, Anne, and Curtis, I felt an immediate connection to the leaders of my tribe. It reminded me that there are still courageous people willing to challenge broken systems, defend children and families, and fight for fundamental rights. For that, I am deeply grateful. A reminder of how blessed I am to have her, Graham, and Barry, and so many fighting for justice.

Saturday: Lunch, Stories, and a Beautiful Fundraising Dinner

On Saturday, I met Alix Mayer for the first time in person. Alix is a passionate medical freedom advocate, vaccine injury survivor, and Chair & President of the Free Now Foundation, California’s leading medical freedom law nonprofit. After suffering life-altering injuries from vaccines decades ago, Alix turned her pain into purpose. She has spent over 20 years fighting for informed consent, vaccine safety, and the right to medical choice.

A graduate of Duke University with an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management (and from the Oscar Mayer family), Alix previously had a successful career, before devoting herself full-time to advocacy. She hosts The Alix Mayer Show podcast and has become a powerful voice for thousands of injured individuals and families.

Her strength, sincerity, and God-given dedication to real change, not publicity, shine through in everything she does.

Meeting her in New York was truly uplifting, a beautiful woman and advocate inside and out, arrived for lunch to meet with her dear friend of 29 years Curtis Cost is a longtime author, researcher, and advocate who has been warning about the dangers of vaccines for nearly three decades. He is best known for his book “Vaccines Are Dangerous” (first published in the early 1990s), which presents medical facts, statistics, and references that challenge mainstream vaccine narratives.

A passionate truth-teller with roots in business and community activism, Curtis has spoken extensively on the topic, including in discussions focused on the impact of vaccines on Black communities. His work, grounded in deep research and personal conviction, has influenced many in the health freedom movement long before the events of recent years.

During our lunch in New York, it was an honor to hear his insights firsthand alongside Alix Mayer. His long friendship with Alix (going back to business school) and his steadfast commitment to protecting humanity through informed choice made a profound impression.

Alix is a tall, gentle soul filled with strength, kindness, and God-given purpose. My husband Steve has always proudly claimed he’s 6 feet tall, and for years I let him have it. Then I stood next to Alix, who is actually 6 feet tall, and suddenly Steve’s long-held height legend came under serious investigation!

I hate to admit it, but after meeting Alix, I may have to retire my favorite line: “My husband is 6 feet tall.” Sorry, Steve, but the evidence has been presented, and the jury has reached a verdict. Alix has officially exposed one of the family’s greatest mysteries!

The four of us, Steve, Alix, Curtis, and me, had a long, meaningful lunch sharing our stories. Every one of us carries pain… and every one of us made the decision to turn that pain into action.

My tribe is growing, and there are more caring, like-minded people fighting for justice than the world wants us to believe.

I am so grateful for Alix arrange a fabulous dinner to raise awareness and raise money for the case to move forward.

The room was filled with incredible people. Kevin Jenkins is a passionate medical freedom advocate, speaker, and the founder/CEO of the Urban Global Health Alliance. He has been a strong voice in the fight against medical mandates, vaccine policies, and systemic harm in healthcare, particularly within Black and underserved communities. Kevin works tirelessly to connect families with legal representation and to amplify stories of injury and injustice.

He is the man who knew Tricia would be the person to take my case. Kevin and Graham secure my attorney NY Tricia Lindsay after a conversation with Graham. His dedication to real advocacy, not just words, has opened doors for many families, including mine. Having him at the dinner and seeing his commitment deepen after hearing Vera Sharav speak was truly meaningful.

Our guest of honor was the remarkable Vera Sharav. She spoke beautifully and elegantly about what is happening in this country the labels, the dehumanisation of individual with special-needs and elderly, and what each one of us can do to make a difference. Her words moved Kevin even more deeply into the fight.

Dedicated to helping others learn more about their world, Pennsy’s skills range from actor to ally of non-profit pursuits, culinary expert to businesswoman. Able to combine diverse experiences and talents into thoughtful, productive actions, the Pennsy Nadler Projects reflect her personal commitment and passion for supporting a better, healthier life and lifestyle for those around her.

Jamel Holley, a former mayor of Roselle, New Jersey, and former New Jersey Assemblyman. Jamel has dedicated much of his life to public service, becoming one of the youngest elected officials in Union County before going on to serve in the New Jersey Legislature. His passion for his community, commitment to helping others, and willingness to stand up for what he believes in have made him a respected voice for many people.

What struck me most was not his titles or accomplishments, but his genuine desire to listen, learn, and help make a difference. In a world where many people seek power for themselves, Jamel uses his experience and platform to advocate for others. It was a privilege to spend a little time with someone who understands the importance of community, leadership, and service to others. drove all the way from New Jersey through heavy Saturday night traffic just to support Danielle’s case. I felt truly honoured that he chose to be there.

We were also joined by Tricia, Margaret, Anna Alice, Jeremiah, Amaya, and Avalon.

A Growing Movement

This trip reminded me that we are not alone. What started as one grieving mother filing alone has grown into something much bigger. The tribe is expanding, lawyers, advocates, artists, survivors, truth-tellers, radio host, and everyday people who refuse to stay silent.You have given me strength when I needed it most. There were many times I wanted to give up, but your support helped me keep fighting for Danielle.

Today, we are approaching one of the most critical stages of this case: the defense depositions. We are finally moving forward, my depositions felt like two days in hell describing what they did to Danielle. This fight is far from over, and we desperately need your help.

I am asking for your support to help fund this case and ensure that the truth is brought into the light. This has never been about a settlement or financial gain. This is about accountability. It is about exposing what happened to Danielle and making sure no other family has to endure the pain and devastation that we have lived with every day since her death.

Quick update for everyone following Danielle’s case.

The defence has requested to move my deposition from May 28th to June 8th. They say they need more time to prepare.

Let that sink in.

They have had all this time to build their defence of the doctors and nurses who were present when my daughter was admitted with a cough and never came home. And now, when we are finally at the point where I sit across from them and tell the truth about what happened to Danielle, they need more time.

Here is what I think. I think they believed this would be an easy case. I think they assumed a grieving mother could be worn down, confused, or dismissed. They were wrong.

If there is a single person on their legal team with any conscience, any integrity, any humanity, they would advise their clients to stop defending the indefensible before this happens to someone they love. Because it can. It does. It happened to Danielle.

While I wait for June 8th, I will be in New York with my attorney Tricia Lindsey in person, which is better than being on Zoom.

The government gave the hospitals money, billions of it, to follow the protocols that ended our loved ones’ lives.

The government gave the doctors protection.

A Woman Who Has Seen This Before — And Refused to Stay Silent

On June 6th, I want you to meet someone who has been fighting this battle longer than most of us have been alive.

Vera Sharav is 89 years old. She is a Holocaust survivor. At three years old she was deported to a concentration camp. Her father did not survive. She did — and she has spent every year since making sure the world does not forget what happens when medicine joins hands with government and turns on the people it is supposed to protect.

She lost her own son to a drug reaction, a medication her family was never warned about. That loss did not break her. It made her a warrior.

For decades Vera has fought pharmaceutical corruption, illegal experiments on children in foster care, the silencing of patients, and the erosion of informed consent. She has been called extreme. She has been dismissed. She has been ignored.

And then 2020 happened. And everything she warned about came true.

What happened in America from 2020 to today is one of the greatest crimes ever committed on American soil by Americans. Our own hospitals. Our own government. Our own protocols. I watched the documentary again, Caring Corrupted: The Killing Nurses of the Third Reich.

I want people to really look at this comparison, because I am tired of being told it is too extreme.

The honest answer to “how is this any different”:

The clearest difference is that the Nazi nurses knew they were killing. Death was the stated goal under eugenics ideology.

What happened to Danielle involved a system where financial incentives, rigid protocols, isolation policies, and a drug with serious documented harm converged, and nobody at the bedside was required to ask whether she needed to be there at all.

Whether that makes it better or worse is something I have every right to feel angry about. The documentary’s actual lesson, that ordinary, well-meaning people can be gradually seduced into participating in a killing system through propaganda and institutional pressure, applies directly to what happened during COVID. The mechanism was different. The result for my family was the same.

The Brutal Truth

Germany called it racial hygiene.

America called it healthcare.

Germany used nurses who overrode their conscience and followed institutional orders.

America used nurses who overrode drug alerts and followed protocol.

Germany blocked families to hide what was happening.

America blocked families with “visitor policies.”

Germany’s nurses said “we didn’t know.”

America’s nurses said “we followed the standard of care.”

Nuremberg said “following orders is not a defense.”

America never held a Nuremberg trial for COVID protocols.

That is not a conspiracy theory. Those are the documented facts of what happened to my daughter.

The difference between Germany and America is not what happened.

A Rwanda-Inspired Solution: Community Justice Like the Gacaca Courts

It wasn’t perfect — there were valid criticisms about due process — but it processed nearly 2 million cases, helped uncover truths, and allowed a shattered nation to rebuild and live together again.

Your life of relative freedom exists only because courageous souls throughout history refused to bow. Evil prospers when good men and women do nothing. We stand at such a moment again.

As my deposition begins on May 28, 2026, the critical date to bring questions forward and evidence regarding my daughter Danielle’s 41 days at Northwell Health hospital, her treatments, and a death that felt more criminal than accidental I am reminded daily of what courage truly costs.

In our darkest hours, true character is revealed. Friends, family, our pastor, and neighbors I once trusted dismissed my pleas. They did not want to hear the painful truth about what happened to Danielle. They preferred the comfort of the official story, “It was COVID” and chose to remain in their social circles with the mask on their faces of normalcy intact. They joined the club that accepted the narrative without question so their lives could continue undisturbed, and compassion gone.

But in that valley of shadows, my husband and I discovered friends who stick closer than a brother. They were not the ones we expected. They were strangers, many on Substack and in advocacy circles, who chose truth over comfort. They listened. They believed. They had already questioned the dominant narrative and refused to “go along to get along.”

These courageous souls paid real prices for refusing to participate in the destruction of life in the name of “medical advancement”

In those shadowed years of the Second World War, moral courage found its quiet face in Irena Sendler,

A young Polish social worker who slipped into the sealed Warsaw Ghetto under the guise of a nurse. While the machinery of death ground forward, she looked into the eyes of terrified Jewish parents and convinced them to surrender their children to her care. With the help of a small underground network, she smuggled infants in sacks and toolboxes, older children through secret passages and sewers, and placed them in convents, orphanages, and Christian homes—risking her own life at every turn. Arrested by the Gestapo, tortured, and sentenced to death, she still refused to betray those she had saved.

Like Schindler, Irena acted not for glory or reward, but from the stubborn voice of her heart. She would later say she had only done what any decent human being must do, yet in that terrible time, such decency demanded extraordinary courage—the courage to defy evil when silence would have been safer, and to preserve innocent lives at the cost of her own freedom and peace.

I watch attorneys who once swore to defend the innocent now stand by in silence, and I cannot help but wonder why they ever chose this calling. The hour demands courage, yet they remain mute. For too many, justice has ceased to be a matter of conscience and has become just another commodity sold to the highest bidder.

Yet a few extraordinary attorneys rose above greed and fear:

Attorney Tricia Lindsay, a bold constitutional advocate and former public school teacher, has fiercely opposed COVID lockdowns, mandates, and government overreach. She defends parental rights and individual liberties against the assault on our Constitution.

Graham Brownstein, with 30 years as a corporate executive, lawyer, and advocate, has led efforts against human rights violations since 2020 — drafting 32,000 Notices of Liability to California officials and fighting the weaponization of healthcare.

Barry D. Silbermann, BSIE, JD, a veteran healthcare attorney and strategist who helped create the John Wayne Cancer Institute, now fights to challenge the transformation of medicine into a “disease and death-care” system.

Nurse Betty Jackson, set the ball rolling with over 42 years of experience, reviewed more than 6,000 pages of Danielle’s medical records and was left with nightmares. A stranger I met online, Betty gave me the truth I could not grasp alone. She confirmed Danielle should never have been admitted with normal vitals and helped expose the nightmare of what was done.

Alix Mayer, Board Chair and President of Free Now Foundation, stood with us in their first case outside California. After suffering brain damage from vaccines while working at Apple, she now fights relentlessly for medical freedom.

Sasha Latypova, former pharmaceutical and medical device R&D executive, gifted us a moving painting of Danielle. “I could not become a professional artist,” she once said, “so I became a pharma and medical device R&D executive.” She now uses her insider knowledge to expose the truth.

Zowe Smith, a medical coder, author, and courageous whistleblower, examined Danielle’s records and declared them the most horrid she had ever seen. She refused to participate in what she called the medical cult of murder for profit, rejecting orders to mislabel patients as COVID deaths and bury the evidence of COVID jab injuries. has meticulously exposed how legal frameworks turned public health into a liability-free “Kill Box,” how contact tracing evolved into genomic surveillance and digital ID systems, and how coding practices distorted truth. Kathrine Watts, Bailiwick News (active 2021–December 2025) became a key resource for researchers, lawyers, and families seeking accountability. She closed the Substack in late 2025 but maintains a comprehensive archive on WordPress (bailiwicknewsarchives.wordpress.com) with organized PDFs, volumes, transcripts, and litigation support materials.

Dr. Margaret Aranda, Stanford-trained physician, Reverend, wife, mother, author, cook, and baker, gave up her medical license because she wanted to save lives rather than remain silent. A survivor of a traumatic brain injury that left her bedridden for twelve years, she is a living testimony of God’s miracles and a devoted follower of Jesus Christ.

Vera Sharav, a Holocaust survivor who as a small child was separated from her mother in the horrors of the concentration camps and walked out of Auschwitz alone, has dedicated her life to the fight for informed consent and human dignity.

After losing her own teenage son to a deadly psychiatric drug without proper warnings, she founded the Alliance for Human Research Protection. For decades she has fearlessly exposed unethical medical experiments, especially on vulnerable Black and Brown children, and warned the world that “Auschwitz did not begin with Auschwitz,” but with small erosions of ethics that good people chose to ignore. In her powerful book Never Again Is Now Global, she delivers an urgent call:

“Unless All of Us Resist, Never Again is Now.” Despite her unimaginable losses, Vera graciously agreed to be the guest of honor at our first fundraiser.

Her presence is a living testament to unbreakable moral courage.

Charles Wright, a writer in Substack, encouraged me to write on Substack. Two years later he drove to our home to help file a critical motion, when I could not find an attorney to represent me after 90 days passed.

John Beaudoin Sr. is a Massachusetts-based systems engineer, data analyst, author, and independent researcher known for his detailed investigations into official U.S. death records, particularly focusing on COVID-19 death classifications and vaccine-related mortality during and after the pandemic.reviewed Danielle’s records and included her story in his books and CDC Memorandum.

Margaret Anna Alice, author of the powerful “Mistakes Were NOT Made,” has awakened millions with her moral clarity. Examining media narratives, propaganda, mass control, politics, psychology, history, philosophy, language, film, art, music, literature, culture, & health with a focus on COVID to unmask totalitarianism & awaken the sleeping before tyranny triumphs.

Mistakes Were Not Made

And so many more, forgive me for not mentioning your name.

These extraordinary ordinary people said “No” to the destruction of humanity. They walked away from careers, faced repercussions, endured social ostracism, and still chose to stand. Their courage has sustained us when the world we thought we knew turned away.

The freedoms we take for granted exist only because of brave men and women throughout history who paid the ultimate price: Harriet Tubman risking her life on the Underground Railroad, Nelson Mandela enduring decades in prison, Dietrich Bonhoeffer giving his life against Nazi evil, Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn exposing the gulags, and millions of unnamed heroes from every nation and every era who declared,

“If no one else will do anything, then I will — for the sake of humanity.”

History is littered with medical ethics failures that demanded courage to expose: Nazi experiments that gave us the Nuremberg Code, the Tuskegee Syphilis Study ended by whistleblower Peter Buxton, Willowbrook’s deliberate infection of disabled children, and many more. In each case, silence from good people prolonged unimaginable suffering, while a few voices of courage sparked reform and protected future generations.

To the cowards who enjoy the bounty of freedom and prosperity while their fellow men and women die in hospitals and deadly medical protocols at the hands that swore to heal them: your silence is complicity. You turn away so you can keep your comfort and social standing. But evil thrives when good men and women do nothing and the next crisis is already approaching.

We stand at the same crossroads today. Millions of lives were taken in U.S. hospitals during the COVID and the Covid-19 shots, and the pattern will not stop unless we find the courage to say No to medical tyranny and enslavement.

If you do not yet know what is happening, step out of your comfort zone. Listen to the cries of grieving parents and harmed patients. Let your conscience be pricked. Remove the mask of denial.

To the strangers who became family: thank you. Your courage has carried us forward.

I choose courage for Danielle, for justice, and for every soul who may face the same tomorrow. Because humanity is worth defending.

No indoor plumbing.
A child raised in hardship who immigrated to America and climbed all the way to the summit of New York’s healthcare and political establishment.

It is the kind of story people admire.
The kind of story politicians celebrate.
The kind of story the media repeats with pride.

But what happens when one man rises so high that the lines between healthcare, politics, public money, and corporate power begin to disappear?

That is the question New Yorkers should be asking.

Because Michael Dowling did not simply become a hospital executive.

He became one of the most politically connected healthcare figures in America, while leading Northwell Health during one of the deadliest medical emergencies in modern history.

And for thousands of families, including mine, that is where the American dream becomes something much darker.

THE CUOMO CONNECTION

This diagram reveals how New York’s Medicaid redesign connected hospitals, government agencies, analytics systems, provider networks, and patient data into one massive centralized healthcare infrastructure. Critics question whether these systems were designed solely to improve care or whether they also accelerated hospital consolidation, political influence, financial incentives, and the rise of powerful healthcare empires like Northwell Health during the Cuomo-era Medicaid restructuring.

Before becoming CEO of Northwell Health, Dowling spent more than a decade inside New York State government under Mario Cuomo. He held powerful positions involving health, social services, and public policy.

During the 1980s and early 1990s:

• Dowling served in senior roles inside the administration of Mario Cuomo,

• working in health and human services,

• social services,

• and state healthcare policy.

  Then came Andrew Cuomo, in 2011,

  Andrew Cuomo launched the Medicaid Redesign Team (MRT), one of the most powerful healthcare restructuring efforts in New York history. He helped shape the very systems that would later govern healthcare funding and Medicaid spending across New York.

At the very same time:

• Michael Dowling was CEO of Northwell Health,

• the largest hospital system in New York,

• while also deeply involved in the Medicaid redesign process.

This is where critics and families see a profound conflict of interest.

How can the CEO of the largest hospital empire in New York simultaneously help shape Medicaid policies that directly affect:

• hospital reimbursement,

• healthcare consolidation,

• system expansion,

• public funding,

• and which healthcare systems survive or grow?

Public reports connected to MRT reforms claimed:

• approximately $5.5 BILLION in projected early Medicaid savings,

• eventually growing into claims exceeding $17–19 BILLION in cumulative Medicaid savings tied to reforms after 2011.

At the same time:

• smaller hospitals struggled,

• independent healthcare systems weakened,

• and giant systems like Northwell expanded dramatically in size, power, and influence.

Who truly benefited from those policies?

And who paid the price?

THE EXPANSION OF AN EMPIRE

Over the next two decades, Northwell Health exploded into a multibillion-dollar nonprofit healthcare empire.

Public nonprofit filings revealed executive compensation reaching into the millions.

Reports tied to Northwell filings showed Michael Dowling receiving compensation approaching $9 million through related organizations and compensation structures.
And giant healthcare conglomerates became more powerful than ever before.

The public was told these systems existed to protect patients.

But during COVID, many families say they experienced something entirely different.

THE CONFLICT OF INTEREST QUESTION AMERICA SHOULD BE ASKING

Michael Dowling was not simply running a hospital system.

He was simultaneously positioned at the center of:

• government healthcare policy,

• The Medicaid restructuring,

• political influence,

• hospital expansion,

• and billions of dollars in public healthcare funding.

That is where the alarm bells begin.

Read that carefully.

The CEO of the largest hospital empire in New York was simultaneously helping shape Medicaid restructuring policies that directly impacted.

Over time, Northwell expanded into a healthcare empire with:

• 28 hospitals,

• more than 1,000 facilities,

• over 100,000 employees,

• enormous political influence,

• and billions flowing through nonprofit and related corporate entities.

At the same time, executive compensation soared into the millions.

Critics and families now ask:

How can the same people shaping public healthcare policy also oversee institutions financially affected by those very policies?

Was the Medicaid redesign truly about helping patients…

or did it accelerate the rise of giant politically connected hospital systems?

THE CUOMO–NORTHWELL POWER NETWORK

The deeper people look, the more intertwined the relationships appear.

Dowling rose through the administration of Mario Cuomo before becoming one of the most powerful healthcare executives in America.

Years later, under Andrew Cuomo, Northwell Health’s political visibility and influence expanded dramatically.

During COVID, the Cuomo administration repeatedly appeared publicly alongside Northwell leadership.

• billions of taxpayer dollars flowed into healthcare systems,

• emergency powers expanded,

• oversight weakened,

• families lost access to loved ones,

• and hospital systems operated with unprecedented control.

Northwell publicly disclosed receiving approximately $1.21 BILLION in pandemic-related support during 2020 alone.

Families watched as:

• patients were isolated,

• heavy sedation became widespread,

• ventilator use surged,

• loved ones deteriorated behind closed doors,

• and grieving relatives struggled to obtain answers.

Meanwhile, major nonprofit healthcare systems continued paying executives multimillion-dollar compensation packages.

THE BOARDROOMS OF POWER

Northwell’s board leadership has included influential business, financial, and political figures, including:

• Margaret Crotty

• Mark Claster

• Michael Epstein

• Richard Goldstein

These are not small local operators.

These are individuals helping oversee one of the most powerful nonprofit healthcare systems in America, including executive compensation, expansion strategy, governance, and institutional direction.

Families now ask difficult questions:

Who approved the compensation structures?

Who approved the expansion of power?

Who approved the vendor contracts?

Who benefited financially while families buried their loved ones?

Because “nonprofit” does not mean powerless. And it does not mean poor.

It can also mean:

• billions in revenue,

• political access,

• government influence,

• institutional protection,

• and enormous control over healthcare systems that ordinary families are forced to trust with their lives.

And that may be the deepest wound of all.

Families believed hospitals existed to heal.

But many now fear the system became too politically connected, too financially protected, and too powerful to question.

That is why families are no longer staying silent.

THEN COVID CHANGED EVERYTHING

In 2020, America entered the largest healthcare emergency in modern history.

And billions of dollars began flowing into hospitals.

• CARES Act funding

• Provider Relief Funds

• Emergency grants

• FEMA reimbursements

• Medicare COVID add-on payments

• Medicaid stabilization funding

Congress allocated approximately $175 BILLION nationally to hospitals and healthcare systems.

At the same time, families across New York watched loved ones enter hospitals alive and never come home. Just like my Danielle.

Many families say they were:

• locked out

• silenced

• isolated from loved ones

• unable to advocate

• and left powerless while life-and-death decisions were being made behind closed doors

Patients were placed on ventilators.
Heavy sedation became common.
Remdesivir was widely used.

Families describe desperate attempts to get answers while being treated like outsiders to their own loved one’s care.

And while families buried their children, parents, husbands, and wives…

Billions continued flowing into hospital systems.

THE QUESTIONS THAT WILL NOT GO AWAY

Now families across America are demanding answers:

• How were COVID deaths classified?

• How many patients died after ventilation?

• How many after remdesivir?

• How much money was tied to COVID admissions, ICU treatment, testing, and ventilator use?

• How much federal funding flowed into hospital systems during those same years?

• And why were grieving families so often denied transparency?

This is no longer simply a healthcare story.

It is a story about:

• political power

• government influence

• nonprofit hospital empires

• public money

• corporate protection

• and the families left behind

The public deserves transparency.
Families deserve answers.
And no institution should ever become so powerful that it stands above accountability.

Dear Friends and Readers,

I’m reaching out today with a heartfelt plea from the depths of my soul. This isn’t just about one person’s battle, it’s about protecting every single one of us and the people we love when we are at our most vulnerable.

By now, nearly all of us know someone, a parent, spouse, sibling, friend, or neighbor ,who was injured or tragically lost because of rigid hospital protocols. We’ve heard the stories too many times: people denied basic treatments, given protocols that caused more harm than healing, and decisions made that took away their chance to fight and recover. No one was telling me what they were doing to my daughter.

Medications were being given. Decisions were being made. And I was not being informed in a way that allowed me to understand or protect her.

I asked questions, but I did not get clear answers.

And over time, something changed inside me.

I became afraid to question them.

Because when your child is in a hospital bed and doctors are telling you she has Covid-19, you are made to feel like questioning them could make things worse.

So you stay quiet.

And that is not consent.

At some point during her hospitalization, an organ donor identification number was assigned to her.

Danielle was never listed as an organ donor.

I was never told.
I never consented.

I was her mother. I was present, I was asking questions.

And yet, things were happening around me, not with me.

Consent Is Not Optional

In the United States, organ donation is governed by the Uniform Anatomical Gift Act.

Consent must come from the patient or from the family.

Without that, nothing should move forward.

So I am asking the question that still has not been answered.

A Moment the World Saw

There is a case that people across the country have seen.

A man was declared brain dead. He was on a ventilator. He was being prepared for organ donation.

As he was brought into the operating room, witnesses said he began to move. They said he showed signs of distress. They said tears were visible.

The procedure was stopped.

He lived.

If something like that can happen even once, families have the right to ask questions.

Because a person on a ventilator cannot speak.

And silence does not mean consent.

The Money Behind It $

No one talked to me about the financial side of this system.

But it exists.

Hospitals bill for ICU stays, ventilators, medications, and procedures.

Organ procurement organizations coordinate donation.

Transplant hospitals perform surgeries that can cost:

Over one million dollars for a heart
Close to or over one million for a liver
Hundreds of thousands for kidneys

Medicare and insurance pay billions into this system.

That does not mean organs are sold, but they are harvested for. money!!!

There is a financial structure surrounding end-of-life care.

And families are not told how it works when they are making decisions.

Organ Donation Has Increased

From 2010 to 2019, the increase was steady.

After 2020, it rises more sharply.

This happened during a time when families were often separated from their loved ones.

When communication was limited.

When decisions were made quickly.

So when I look at these numbers, I do not just see growth.

I see a system under pressure.

And families trying to keep up.

Another Case Families Are Watching

There are families who have come forward saying their loved ones were declared brain dead while they still believed they were alive.

These cases are not identical.

But they point to something real.

Families are questioning what they are being told.

When a Patient Cannot Speak

Danielle was given powerful medications.

Fentanyl. Propofol. Midazolam. Sedatives. Paralytics.

These medications take away your ability to move.
They take away your ability to speak.
They take away your ability to advocate for yourself.

It is very hard for me to post these pictures…..LOOK at my Danielle, she walked into the hospital with only a cough…..and ended up on those machines that destroyed every one of her organs! I ask you do you still want your loved one to walk into Northwell Health Hospital!!!

So I have to ask something no parent should ever have to ask. Can a person hear what is happening around them but not be able to respond, I believe Danielle heard everything, because when we were praying her heart rate went up and the doctors told us to stop!!

And if that is even possible, why is there not absolute transparency in every decision being made

Medication Without Real Understanding

Throughout Danielle’s hospitalization, medications were given that I did not fully understand.

Things were explained quickly.
Decisions were urgent.
The message was always the same.

This is what we have to do.

This is your only option.

But when you are a mother sitting there, exhausted, scared, watching your child decline, that is not informed consent.

That is pressure.

That is fear.

The System Moves Fast

Doctors rotate.
Shifts change.
New people come in.

And in the middle of that, the patient becomes a chart.

But to the family, that is not a chart.

That is their child.

Families Are Speaking Up

I am not alone.

More families are coming forward.

They are saying they did not understand what was happening.
They are saying they felt pressured.
They are saying they were not fully informed.

Not every story is the same.

But the feeling is the same.

Something was not right.

What Have We Become

We are supposed to be a country that protects life.

So why are families left with questions

Why do parents feel like decisions were made around them instead of with them

Why is transparency something you have to fight for

My beautiful special needs daughter, Danielle, entered the hospital with mild symptoms and never came home. It took 41 days. What happened to her was unjust, preventable, and devastating. No family should ever have to endure this kind of pain.
