I want to do this because even here in the information era of 2026, there are still people who don’t fully understand the role and benefit of hiring a coach. I also want to talk about the role of a spiritual guide, holistic healer, or whatever title fits the person doing this work.

What I Do

I’m a reiki master and spiritual liberation coach for Black women and women of color in midlife who are ready to step into their power as lightworkers, healers, and coaches. What does that actually mean? It means I’m a life coach who teaches and guides my clients using spiritual practices, holistic tools, and my own lived experience to help the women who work with me get where they’re trying to go.

So What Is a Life Coach?

The textbook definition: a wellness professional who helps individuals achieve success in different areas of life ie., career, relationships,finances, health. There’s a coach for nearly every goal you could set.

But here’s how I define it: a coach is someone who uses their skills, wisdom, and in my case,spiritual and holistic tools to guide their clients toward a desired outcome. A coach is your cheerleader. Your accountability partner. The person who helps you pivot when something isn’t working and won’t let you hide behind excuses for not following through on what you said you wanted. And most of us do this work because it’s what we’re good at, what we’re passionate about and honestly, it’s our sacred calling.

The same is true for spiritual guides working with herbs, tarot or oracle cards, energy healing, and beyond. You hire them for a reason: to help you reach an outcome you couldn’t reach alone. And both coaches and healers alike deserve to be paid.

Why Paying Black Coaches and Healers Matters for All of Us

Coaches and healers deserve compensation for their time, their talent, their wisdom, and their content. And when we support Black coaches and healers specifically, it strengthens the whole community not just the individual getting paid.

Black-owned businesses are more likely to reinvest in the community. That’s not just something I believe it’s documented fact. Think about it this way: the more money flows to Black coaches and healers serving our community, the more opportunity opens up within that community.

Most mainstream coaches have teams. They have people handling client overflow, content creation, appointment scheduling, email lists, and more. That structure frees the coach to spend more time actually serving their clients, and it creates jobs in whatever community that coach is part of. Now imagine what that could look like in our community. When we hire and pay Black coaches and healers, we give them the ability to hire and pay their own staff of assistants, designers, content creators, etc., so their businesses can run the way mainstream businesses do. Right now, most of us are a one-woman show: admin, website, self-publishing, social content, all of it, alone.

Money Is Energy And Energy Is Meant to Move

You’ve probably heard this before, but it bears repeating: hiring a coach or healer is an energy exchange. Money is currency for a reason it’s meant to move, the same way current flows through the wiring in your home, or water moves through a river. Money that isn’t moving isn’t doing its job.

Too many people believe spiritual healers and rootworkers shouldn’t be paid, as if that’s some kind of tradition but that couldn’t be further from the truth. You have always had to pay your local hoodoo practitioner or rootworker for their tinctures, their spellwork, their teas whether in money or whatever form of currency was relevant at the time. If we lived in a village and went to the village medicine man or woman, that person was compensated. The village supported their livelihood so they would want for nothing.

We live in a capitalist society now, and no matter what, we all have bills to pay. Period. How can I show up as an effective coach or healer if I’m worried about how I’m going to make rent or if my own basic needs go unmet simply because someone’s decided I shouldn’t be paid for what I do? That doesn’t serve anyone, least of all the people I’m here to help.

Bringing It Home

This whole series started with one question I asked on social media: Where are our Mel Robbins, Brené Browns, Jen Sinceros, and Gabby Bernsteins? I’m so glad I asked it and put it out into the world, because it’s a conversation worth having.

If you’ve been with me for this series, you know it started with one question I posed on social media: Where are the Black Mel Robbins, Brené Browns, Gabby Bernsteins? Every part of this series has come from sitting with the answers people gave me and today’s is no different.

In part one, I talked about the lack of support and trust in our community, and the conditioning that tells us white is better, more successful, more credible, more “worth it.” That “White man’s water is colder” mindset. We hold our own people to standards so unrealistic that it becomes nearly impossible for a Black coach, healer, or guide to actually earn the business not just of our own community, but of anyone.

In part two, I made the case for why I believe Black women make the most powerful coaches, healers, and spiritual guides walking this earth. We know how to overcome obstacles because the deck has almost always been stacked against us. We can teach self-love in a way few others can, because we’ve had to learn that lesson daily, always under scrutiny for our looks, our hair, our skin, whether we’re light, brown, or dark.

The Response That Started This One

One response to my original question has stayed with me, and it’s what I want to sit with today. Someone pointed out that we, as a people, are just now beginning to truly embrace and utilize therapy. We’re starting to see its value healing our trauma, confronting our mental health in a way we simply didn’t do even 20 years ago.

I agree with this completely. There has always been a stigma around therapy in the Black community. You know the lines: “Black people don’t go to therapy. That’s some white folks’ shit.” We’re only now, culturally, starting to unlearn that.

And if that’s true for therapy, I think it explains something about coaching too. Hiring a “life coach” let alone a spiritual coach, an energy healer, a tarot reader can feel daunting, even embarrassing, to admit out loud. If we’re still working through the idea that therapy is valid, how much harder is it to say, “I hired a coach”?

Why Referrals Are So Hard to Come By

This might be part of why referrals are so hard to get in this industry. Maybe some of us feel a quiet stigma around hiring a coach, a healer, a reader even when we know, privately, that it helped.

But here’s what doesn’t add up: these modalities are mainstream now. Spiritual coaching, holistic guidance this isn’t fringe anymore. Life coaching itself has existed for decades under different names, and thanks to the internet and social media, it feels like everyone, of every background, is some kind of coach, guide, or expert these days.

So if the field itself isn’t stigmatized anymore, if it’s genuinely everywhere, then the stigma has to be about something more specific. It’s not coaching in general we’re uneasy about. It’s trusting our own to do it.

The Scarcity Loop

This connects directly back to part one. We’re expected to charge less and give more. And when the alternative to hiring a Black coach is admitting we need help and trusting a person who looks like us to hold that space a lot of us choose to just struggle alone instead. It feels safer. More familiar. Even when it isn’t serving us.

What If They Sell Out?

There was another concern raised in response to my original question, one worth sitting with honestly. The worry was that if Black coaches did break into the mainstream, the messaging might get watered down. That success might mean selling out to the highest bidder, trading the depth and truth of the work for something more palatable, more marketable, more digestible to everyone else.

Could that happen? Sure. It happens in every industry, to people of every background. But here’s my question back: why would that possibility stop us from rooting for someone who looks like us to make it big in this space?

I’ve already told you why I believe Black women make the best coaches, healers, and guides walking this earth. And here’s what’s wild, non-Black people already know it. They already love the magic we carry. It shows up everywhere: the way we give a compliment that makes someone stand up a little straighter. The way we can say one sentence and shift someone’s entire day. ShowerTok. Cooking. Hair. Makeup. Spiritual teaching. We are already the ones people turn to for wisdom, across every platform, in every space often without getting named or paid for it.

We do it all. So we should be paid for it. Period.

Where This Leaves Us

Three parts ago, I asked a simple question: where are our household names? What I found, digging into it with you, wasn’t one answer it was a web of them. A community still learning to trust healing itself, let alone trust it from each other. A scarcity mindset that convinces us struggle is safer than support. A fear that success means losing ourselves.

None of that is a reason to stay small. If anything, it’s the map of exactly what we have to heal to stop being small.

So here’s what I’m asking of you, and what I’m committing to myself: root for us. Loudly. Publicly. Hire us, refer us, share our work like it matters because it does. Let a Black coach, healer, or guide get big. Let her become a household name. Let her get paid what she’s worth without guilt, without apology, and without us waiting to see if she “stays humble” first.

We’ve earned our place in this industry. It’s time we walked into it like we know that.

As I talked about in part one, I posed a question to my social media: Where are the Black Mel Robbins, Brené Browns, Gabby Bernsteins? I got a lot of feedback on that loaded question, and I love that so many Black coaches and healers are stepping forward to share their thoughts on this ongoing conversation. Keep it coming, we need this conversation.

In this post, I want to talk about something I believe deeply: Black women make the best coaches and guides for our community. And yes, we can guide people outside the community too. This isn’t shade to our male counterparts, I’m simply speaking from my own experience as a Black woman who is a coach, healer, and spiritual guide.

We Know How to Rise

Black women hold a unique position in society. We’re often placed at the bottom of the social hierarchy, and because of that, we understand exactly what it takes to get up, get dressed, and do the work because if we don’t, who will?

We’ve long been the unsung heroes of leadership in our community, even when the credit lands elsewhere, a pattern I trace back to Abrahamic religion’s partnership with patriarchy. Historically, Black women have been the heartbeat of the civil rights movement, the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and so much more.

And quiet as it’s kept, Black families have often been matriarchal at their core. It’s usually the elder woman - grandmother, great-grandmother who holds the family together: advice, hugs, good meals, money when you need it, all of it. Tradition may have said the grandfather was the “head” of the household, but let’s be honest Granddaddy couldn’t find a thing without Grandmama, and he looked to her for love and guidance far more often than most of us ever knew.

This matters because I believe we’re drifting further from these traditions. Some of that, the deconstruction is good. But we’re also losing the recipes. Or worse, handing them over to the highest bidder outside our community. Again, deconstruction is good but not everything has to be thrown away, maybe just remix it to fit into our newly deconstructed ways of life?

Natural-Born Leaders

That matriarchal thread is part of why I believe Black women, especially those of us 40 and older make such powerful coaches. We’ve been leaders since forever. We were warriors who fought alongside Black men, standing on the front lines instead of behind them. We ran households, economies, and entire communities long before anyone called it “leadership” it was simply survival, and we were good at it. We were only ever viewed as “less than” once colonization taught the world and eventually taught us to see it that way. Before that shift, our voice, our strength, and our authority weren’t up for debate. The truth is, we have always led. We just haven’t always been credited for it.

The Balance We Carry

Black women also know how to carry and move between Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine energy, structure and softness, action and intuition, the doing and the being. I wrote about this in my book, The 7 Steps to Spiritual Liberation for Black Women how colonization and Abrahamic religion taught us to forget that every one of us holds both energies within, regardless of what any one religious tradition claims. That forgetting didn’t happen by accident. It served a purpose: a people who don’t know they already hold both power and softness are easier to convince they need someone else to lead them. Black women have had to relearn how to move fluidly between these energies just to survive and provide for our families. Which means we already know this terrain. Black women know how to teach and guide from either or both and how to help you find your own way into them when you need it, because we’ve had to find our own way there first.

We Teach Self-Love Because We’ve Had To Fight For It

Many Black women wrestle with low self-esteem or a lack of self-love and still, we can teach it in a way no one else can. Think about it: we are the women most scrutinized for our hair, our skin, our bodies, the way we speak and still, we know how to show up looking so put-together that no one could guess we’re having a hard day. We can teach you how to embody that same main-character energy so you can go after whatever you’re building toward.

Have you ever had a Black woman pray over you? Lay healing hands on you? Give you a reading that shook something loose in your chest, or just say the right words at the right moment and leave you feeling like you could take on the world? That’s the magic we carry. We are natural-born healers, leaders, and teachers and yes, we do it while looking good too.

The Cost of Being This Powerful

Here’s the problem: people know this about us, and they take advantage of it. Or they try to shrink us calling us “too much,” “too loud,” or reaching for whatever tired stereotype their small hearts can come up with. Even Kamala Harris faced this with plenty of the public criticism aimed at her during her presidential run and it had nothing to do with her policies and everything to do with things like her laugh.

What hurts more though is when we do this to each other. When Black women tear each other down instead of showing up in support, usually rooted in jealousy, misogyny, or misogynoir. We have to deconstruct that too, ladies.

This connects directly to what I talked about in part one: the lack of community support. It shows up sharply here. We have to work twice as hard for traction and visibility on social media, because the algorithm only seems to reward us when we perform the boxes it’s already built for us: loud, difficult, dramatic. People love a show. On top of that, there’s the ongoing lack of access to capital, visibility, and marketing that so many of us are up against.

What I Want to Build

I want to see more Black women’s masterminds, more spaces where we as coaches and healers come together to lift each other up, share information, talk shop, and simply be sisters. Bonding. Growing. Building. Together. So don’t be surprised if I reach out and ask you to be part of one. I have to walk the walk, not just talk it. The responses were interesting, insightful, and honestly they confirmed a lot of what I, as a spiritual coach, have known (or come to realize) about what it means to be a Black woman competing in the spiritual wellness and self-help industry.

This isn’t a question I just thought up one day. It’s one I’ve been asking myself for years. When I entered this industry eight years ago, I was inspired by brilliant Black coaches like Abiola Abrams and Rosetta Thurman, powerful women with real followings and real impact. But even they don’t carry the same name recognition as their white counterparts. That gap has stayed with me.

This is going to be a series of at least three parts, and this is part one. Let’s talk about what came up when I asked the question.

“It’s a Community Issue”

One response came from fellow life coach who is a Dating & Relationship coach whose story, insight, and teachings make her a genuine resource to the community and yet her following barely reflects that. I know follower counts aren’t everything, but we live in a digital world, and that’s largely where we find our people. Her answer to my question was simple: “They have support. It’s a community issue.”

I agree with her.

In the Black community, we’ve been conditioned to believe that white is better, more valuable, more reliable. That “the White man’s water is colder” mentality runs deep, and it doesn’t just show up in the self-help space. It shows up every time we support Black-owned businesses. We hold our businesses to a far higher standard than we hold anyone else. Expecting top-tier service, top-tier products, and rock-bottom prices while extending far more grace to businesses that have made it clear they don’t want us there, don’t see us as worthy customers, or assume the worst about us the moment we walk in.

So when it comes to those of us in life coaching, self-help, and spiritual or holistic spaces, the expectation flips again: charge less, give more, be available to everyone, all the time. And even when we deliver, the support often stops at “you’re great”. It rarely becomes “let me tell everyone I know about you.” I don’t know if it’s shame or something else, but here’s the thing: praise doesn’t build a business. Referrals do. If I helped you, tell the world. Not just so I can grow but so the next woman who needs me knows I exist. That’s community.

Okay. Let me get back on track.

What White Coaches Get That We Don’t

Here’s what I’ve noticed: white life coaches can be mediocre and still build an audience. Other white people as well as plenty of black people and people of color will listen, buy the book, subscribe to the podcast, share it, enroll in the program, etc. It compounds.

The breakdown happens when it comes to the Black community understanding how much we stand to gain by supporting the ones of us who’ve answered this call. It’s a real loss. And not the kind that fixes itself.

The Trust Problem

Someone else raised the trust factor. That it’s hard for us to trust each other because so many people pass themselves off as experts or coaches when really, they just want your money. That’s a fair point. But it’s not unique to us. You’ll find scammers and snake-oil salesmen in every community, everywhere. That’s when discernment has to do its job by separating the real ones from the ones just running a hustle. I’ll go deeper into this in part two.

Where We Go From Here

Here’s what I believe we, as a community, need to work on so we can truly show up for the people in these sacred spaces who are not here to scam or take advantage of anyone:

1. Define what community actually means to us. We are not a monolith, and we never will be. But if we’re seeking support, we have to get clear on what we need from community and what we’re willing to bring to it. Community is a two-way exchange, not a one-way ask.

2. Do the work around our money blocks. This is a key piece of the wealth gap in our community, and I’ll be teaching on it directly. We have to name the energetic blocks we carry around money as far as the scarcity mindset, the quiet romanticizing of struggle and start releasing them. 3. Don’t shy away from the shadow work. Part of that is honestly reckoning with what organized religion, Christianity specifically , has done to us generationally, and what it will take to deconstruct that so we can heal the trauma still living in our DNA. If you think that history doesn’t shape how we support (or don’t support) Black women and men in this industry, it absolutely does.

I could go deeper here, and I will in the upcoming parts 2 and 3. This was meant to introduce the topic and start the conversation, not finish it. You may disagree with parts of this, and that’s more than okay. We’re not a monolith. But I’d challenge you to sit with it for a moment, because I believe we’re being called by the ancestors to step into our rightful place. And we can’t do that without first being honest about what’s standing in the way.

On June 29th we had the Full Moon in Capricorn landing on the exact same day Mercury stationed retrograde in Cancer. Then on June 30th (today), Jupiter shifts into Leo for the first time in twelve years. That is a lot of celestial movement packed into 48 hours, and I wanted to slow down and talk through what it actually means for you: not as an astrologer, because I am not one, but as someone who understands energy and lives my life by the same framework I coach my clients through, Clarity, Consistency and Confidence.

Let’s walk through it together.

The Full Moon in Capricorn: Clarity Meets Accountability

Capricorn sits directly opposite Cancer in the zodiac, the sign of home, emotion and nurturing. So when a full moon lands in Capricorn, it is asking a very direct question: what have you been building, and is it actually built on truth?

This is the kind of moon that brings things to the surface. Whatever you have been quietly carrying, sensing or avoiding, this is the moment it gets harder to ignore. Some astrologers are even calling it a spiritual midyear review, which honestly feels right. We are halfway through the year. What have you built? What do you actually have to show for it, not in the way the world measures success, but in the way that matters to your spirit?

The flip side is real too. Capricorn energy can stir up old pressure: the feeling of not having enough, not being enough, not measuring up. If you are someone who already struggles with self-criticism, this moon might turn the volume up on that voice. I want you to notice it if it happens and remember, that voice is not the truth. It is an old pattern asking to be seen, not obeyed.

Mercury Retrograde in Cancer: Consistency Gets Tested

Mercury retrograde already has a reputation, but this particular one, landing in Cancer and lasting until July 23rd, is specifically about emotional communication, home life and old feelings resurfacing.

Here is the gift in it: old conversations, old relationships, unfinished emotional business, these things are not coming back to torment you. They are coming back because something in you is finally ready to close the loop. This retrograde is an invitation to slow all the way down and actually feel what you have been moving past too quickly to process.

And here is the caution: communication can get messy during this window. Misunderstandings happen more easily. You might feel more sensitive or reactive than usual. This is not the season to make big emotional decisions in the heat of a feeling. Wait. Let it settle.

This is why I built Consistency the way I did inside the membership. Consistency was never meant to be about pushing through or performing perfectly. It is about having simple, steady practices that hold you together when the outside world feels unpredictable. A meditation you return to. A few journal prompts that ground you. A sisterhood that reminds you who you are when Mercury has you questioning everything.

Jupiter Enters Leo: Confidence Gets Activated

Now for the exciting one. Jupiter has not been in Leo in a long time. When the planet of luck and expansion moves into the sign of bold self-expression, the entire collective energy shifts from internal, private growth into something far more visible. More creativity. More boldness. More willingness to actually be seen.

I will be honest with you, sis, this one is personal for me. As a Leo, June 30th marks my own Jupiter return, something that only happens once every twelve years and is tied directly to identity and confidence. I am feeling called to show up bigger, louder and more myself because of it, and I share that not to make this about me, but because I think it matters for you to see someone in real time deciding to stop shrinking.

The caution here is ego. Jupiter in Leo can tip into seeking validation instead of standing in grounded, quiet confidence. The invitation is authentic visibility, not performance for attention. There is a difference, and your spirit knows it even when your ego tries to convince you otherwise.

This is the energy of Confidence, the third pillar in everything I teach, and it is no coincidence that it is arriving right as we move deeper into the year.

You are a smart, capable woman and you have done hard things your whole life.

So why does it feel impossible to get clear on what you want? Why do you second-guess every decision, talk yourself out of what you actually desire, and stay stuck in the same loop no matter how hard you try?

And when you are running on a survival operating system, clarity feels impossible, not because you are not smart enough or focused enough or spiritual enough, but because a survival brain was never built to dream. It was built to react.

That is why you keep getting stuck.

You Can’t Think Your Way Into Clarity When Your Nervous System Still Thinks You’re in Danger

So many women come to their spiritual and wellness journeys believing they just need more information. A better plan. The right oracle card. And while all of those things have their place, they cannot do their job when your nervous system is still scanning for the next threat.

Clarity is not a thinking problem. It is a safety problem.

You have to feel safe enough to want something for yourself, maybe for the very first time. Safe enough to name it out loud. Safe enough to believe you deserve it. That is the real work. And it is deeper than any planner or program can reach on its own.

Choosing to Thrive Is an Ancestral Pattern Interrupt

For Black women especially, wanting more for ourselves can feel selfish. Even dangerous. Because we grew up watching the women before us pour out completely and never once refill. We learned that love looked like sacrifice. That strength meant silence. That our needs came last, if they came at all.

But here is what I know to be true: choosing to thrive is not selfish. It is sacred.

It is you saying: the cycle stops with me. It is you refusing to pass this exhaustion down to the next generation. It is you doing the spiritual work that your mother and her mother never had access to, not because they did not deserve it, but because nobody gave them permission.

You have permission now.

This Is the Work

Survival mode got us here. But it was never meant to keep us here.

Most of us don’t achieve our goals because we’re not truly clear on what we want, why we want it, or what we’re willing to do to make it happen.

We say we want better health, more peace, a thriving business, a fulfilling relationship, financial freedom, or a deeper spiritual connection. But when we begin peeling back the layers, many of us discover that our vision is vague, our motivation isn’t fully understood, and our commitment is conditional.

Clarity is the foundation.

When you’re clear about what you want, why it matters, and what you’re willing to sacrifice or change to achieve it, your decisions become easier. Your actions become more intentional. Your consistency becomes stronger.

And consistency is what creates transformation.

Another lesson I’ve been learning on this journey is that people often mistake tools for solutions. Many people assume that the tools we use are the secret ingredient to success. They believe the right tool will somehow eliminate the need for effort, discipline, or personal responsibility.

But tools are exactly that, tools.

In the spiritual community, we have a wide variety of tools available to us. Oracle cards. Tarot cards. Reiki. Crystals. Herbs. Essential oils. Sound healing. Meditation practices. Journaling prompts.

These tools are beautiful. They can provide guidance, support, insight, healing, and encouragement. But they are not magic buttons.

As a Spiritual Empowerment Coach, I’m here to help guide you, support you, cheer you on, and celebrate your victories. I help women gain clarity, reconnect with themselves, and step more fully into their power.

Most of the women I work with are in midlife and feel called toward something more. They’re healers, coaches, teachers, creatives, intuitives, and lightworkers who know they’re meant for greater visibility, impact, and fulfillment.

What I help them understand is this:

• The power was never in the tools.

• The power has always been within them.

• The tools simply help reveal what is already there.

A Reiki session can help you identify energetic blocks. A reading can provide insight and guidance. A meditation practice can help quiet the noise so you can hear your inner wisdom.

But none of those things can make decisions for you. None of them can create devotion or dedication for you. None of them can take action for you.

The same principle applies outside of spirituality.

As many of you know, I’m currently on a wellness journey. One thing I consistently see on social media is the criticism and misunderstanding surrounding weight loss medications and weight loss surgery.

People often describe these options as “the easy way out.” Let me be clear, there is absolutely nothing easy about using these tools. Because that’s exactly what they are, tools.

A person still has to make choices every day. They still have to nourish their body, move their body, drink water, rest, manage stress, and develop healthier habits.

The tool may support the process, but the person still has to do the work.

The same is true in spiritual development.

I can provide a reading. I can facilitate a Reiki session. I can offer guidance, support, and insight.

But if you’re unwilling to integrate what you’ve learned, change your habits, shift your mindset, or take inspired action, then the experience becomes nothing more than a temporary bandage.

Transformation requires participation. It requires practice. It requires consistency. It requires a willingness to show up for yourself again and again, even when motivation fades.

So if there’s one thing I hope you take away from this message, it’s this:

It won’t work until you work it!!

You may be wondering, “But Allison, what does the work actually look like?” The truth is, much of it will be trial and error. You’ll experiment. You’ll learn. You’ll discover what supports you and what doesn’t. You’ll make mistakes. You’ll adjust.

And that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be.

Growth is not linear.

As you evolve, your practices will evolve. As your goals expand, your habits must expand with them. As you become more of who you’re meant to be, you’ll be invited to rise to new levels of responsibility, self-awareness, and commitment.

Don’t be afraid of that. Welcome it. Because every level of your journey is preparing you for the next one.

And here’s something I’ve found to be true time and time again:

The thing you’re chasing is often chasing you, too.

The opportunity.

The healing.

The abundance.

The purpose.

The visibility.

The next version of yourself.

Your job is not to force it. Your job is to do the work that brings you into alignment with it.

When clarity meets consistency, transformation becomes inevitable.

Let’s reset, realign, and move forward together.

But what I loved most about this reading, aside from coming back to doing live videos after a much-needed hiatus, was how deeply aligned it was with my coaching model and the work I do helping women in midlife step into their power. The model is designed to help women get into alignment with the woman they are becoming and release the woman they thought they were, or thought they were supposed to be. To do that, we look at three things: clarity, consistency, and confidence.

Here’s what I’ve found as a coach and healer: too many of my clients lack clarity. They have the vision, for the most part, but they’re unclear on what they truly desire. Or, more commonly, they feel like what they desire is something they shouldn’t want and so much of that comes from how we were raised and the weight of societal expectations.

During my social media sabbatical, I’ve been doing this work on myself and let me tell you, it was eye-opening. If you’re a coach and you’re not using what you teach on yourself, what are you doing? I’ve been applying my own coaching model to my life, and I’ve made so much progress that I am genuinely excited to bring it back to my clients. What do we need clarity on this week?

Card #19 · Fire

The overarching message of this card is about reigniting your passion while befriending and taming your inner fire so it does not scorch you. I go deeper on this during the live session, but after getting off camera and sitting with the message, something else jumped out at me that I want to share here.

Fire is also a purifier. Use it to release and clear. Burn some incense, sage, palo santo, or any other sacred herb to help move energetic clutter out of your space and your spirit. And here’s where it gets really interesting: fire is the element of the solar plexus chakra , the energy center associated with your confidence, identity, purpose, and sense of self. Gaining clarity in those areas is not a small thing. It is literally the crux of what I teach in my group cohort, See Her. Love Her. Be Her., which begins in late June. The dots are connecting, and I love it. (This stuff makes me totally nerd out and I do not apologize for that!)

What inspired action do we need to take?

Card #51 · The Staff

The Staff is a symbol of authority knowing how to flow easily between polarities, how to weigh all possibilities, and how to instinctively select the right path. It asks us to trust our inner wisdom and allow ourselves to be guided by our Higher Power. In short: let go and let God, Goddess, Spirit whatever name feels true to you.

We were given authority, yet we rarely lean into it in a way that honors the co-creative dance that was designed with us in mind. When we were created, we entered a soul contract and part of that contract is using our authority to speak life, speak love, and create worlds. But the other side of that is allowing ourselves to be guided. We have an entire Spirit team, and yet we insist on going it alone. We keep searching for answers with our natural eyes instead of our spiritual ones. The answers we seek are often right in front of us we just have to be willing to see them.

What is the possible outcome?

Card #45 · The Seer

Trust your intuition and follow it as it leads you forward. You are exactly where you are supposed to be. Surrender your vision to Spirit and ask to be shown the truth.

But let me be clear , this outcome only comes if you take action. If we let the fire within us burn while also using fire to clear, purify, and melt away what no longer serves us; if we allow ourselves to be led and stop going it alone when we were never meant to; if we get in lock step with the co-creative dance between ourselves and Spirit, then the result is more connection to our intuition, more clarity, more truth, and more opportunities for growth. The ability to truly see who we are, not who we think we are supposed to be.

Isn’t that what we really want? To be the woman we were created to be? To fully step into our power, unapologetically? Hell yeah.

The answers we seek are often right in front of us. We just have to be willing to see them with our spiritual eyes, not just our natural ones.

I was tired. So very tired.

I was tired of carrying weight that didn’t belong to me. The weight passed down through generations of surviving instead of thriving the belief that thriving and success are luxuries, or somehow unattainable. I was tired of carrying the weight of other people’s perceptions and expectations of me. And the physical weight that was a manifestation of the pain in my heart and soul from years of trying to just be me, but not really knowing how. If that makes sense.

The people-pleasing. The procrastination. The starting projects and never finishing them. All of this, and so much more, became weight I no longer wished to carry in my body, my mind, or my spirit.

I told my Spirit team: This is it. I have to release all of this. Maybe it won’t all go at once, but I’ve got to start somewhere.

So I started with my physical health, and it spilled over into my mental and emotional health. I began taking weight loss medication again. I’d tried it briefly the year before and saw results that made me happy but I stopped. Not necessarily because I wanted to, but because, financially, I couldn’t keep it up. There was also the fact that I was getting medication from pharmacies I wasn’t familiar with, and that didn’t sit right with me. How do I know the medication I paid for wasn’t a diluted version of the real thing?

The good news is, through my day job, I discovered a program linked to my health insurance that gives me access to the real medication and a doctor who monitors my progress every step of the way. That peace of mind has made all the difference.

Now that I’m on this journey, something has been revealed to me: this isn’t just about physical transformation. I am smack dab in the middle of a rebirth.

A rebirth into the version of myself I’ve always wanted to be and that makes me so incredibly happy.

This wellness journey is giving me clarity. It’s building the muscle of consistency. It’s giving me more confidence than I’ve ever had. I’m stepping out to be seen in ways the old me would have completely shied away from. And honestly? It feels good.

The other gift of this journey is that it’s helping me fully step into who I am as a spiritual empowerment coach for women in midlife.

I want to be an example, an inspiration, a motivator, a cheerleader, and a guide for women who are ready for their own rebirth into the woman they were always born to be.

We’ve broken promises to ourselves. We’ve carried weight that doesn’t belong to us, all while smiling on the outside and dying on the inside. Dying for someone to see who we really are. Dying to put down burdens we never should have picked up. We are ready to create new stories. Stories filled with life, adventure, and an abundance of love, joy, and yes, money.

We’ve paid a heavy price for not showing up for ourselves not just financially, but emotionally, spiritually, and relational. We’ve been afraid to be seen as our full selves.

But never again.

So here I am 15 pounds lighter, with 85 more to go. I’m navigating menopause, which wreaks havoc on the nervous system at times, but I am working through it with grace. I’m rebranding, because while I will always be a Reiki Master Healer and Teacher, the layers of me go far deeper than those sacred practices. I am a writer. I am a life coach. I am, overall, a badass.

I am emerging from this process as a version of myself that feels more aligned than ever before. And I am here fully, unapologetically here for the women in midlife who are ready to gain clarity, consistency, and confidence. So that when they look in the mirror, they can finally see her. Love her. Be her.

“I am so fucking tired of white boys cosplaying the apocalypse.”- Ryan (Tik Tok Creator)

A video that I have watched over and over and over and over again came from this creator on TikTok. He does an epic crash out video in response to a comment left on a previous video he made regarding the recent overturning of the voting rights act. In his video he talks about how we are all in this predicament because of white men. That because white men won’t stop being awful, we will all continue to lose rights that we fought so hard to obtain. Paraphrasing but that is the gist.

As I sat with what was said in this video crash out that I love so much because where he is in frustration as a black man, I’m there as a black woman. And as a black woman who is a spiritual teacher, coach, healer who is in spaces where white women gather and practice spiritual and holistic practices, I can’t help but still give a huge majority of them a bombastic side eye. Why? Because y’all are STILL doing the same thing that you were doing back during the BLM movements of 2020 and 2021. Supposedly during this time many of you had this “awakening” to the plight of black people in Amerikkka as it relates to police brutality. But as quick as you had this awakening is as quick as you went right back to sleep and back to your old ways of total complacency.

I’m truly tired of hearing and seeing white spiritual practitioners, reiki practitioners and the like, cosplay as these deep thought leaders in a world where race doesn’t matter (just so you know it always matters). They walk around like we’re living in that old Coca Cola commercial or freaking “Hands Across America” type shit. Let’s be real, most of you are practicing healing and divination practices that come from other cultures and yet, you have absolutely NOTHING to say about how the people of those cultures are not safe in this country and never have been. I’m so sick of you remaining neutral and saying things like, “I don’t talk politics here...” okay if not here then where? Where? Why do you keep acting like all of the shit that is happening in this country doesn’t really affect you because as soon as they are done with black people and people of color, news flash white women, you’re next.

But let’s be real, all of this that is happening (Project 2025) is and has always been about white women. The problem is, white women are so accustomed to their proximity to white men and having this false sense of safety and security that you vote against your best interest. And even if you identify as a “liberal” you are still sound asleep at the wheel, which brings me back to white spiritual teachers/healers. Your silence, your neutrality, your complacency is why I don’t fuck with so many of you.

As a healer, I work with who ever feels in alignment with my messaging, programs, services. I don’t discriminate. However, if you are a white woman, you must respect the space and understand that you are a guest here. And as quickly as you have been invited, you can be uninvited. Here with me, you gonna do the work. The hard work. You can’t spiritually bypass the hard parts. You can’t skip that some of the ancestor work that YOU need to do, has a lot to do with cleaning up the muck and minutia of what your colonizing and/or complacent ancestors did! You don’t get to leap frog into manifesting abundance and becoming rich or profiting off other people’s cultures and spiritual practices, then gatekeeping or monopolizing it in ways to keep those same people from having access to. Sage comes to mind but I digress.

So what’s the point to all of this post Allison? What do you want them to do? I want white people who are reiki practitioners, sound healers, spiritual coaches, yoga instructors, tarot readers, astrologers/moonologers, to stop being neutral and complacent, do the real work. Deconstruct colonization for real this time and not just for show. Stop monetizing other peoples spiritual and holistic practices if you’re not going to show true appreciation and honor to those practices.

Learn about your OWN European spiritual and holistic practices because you have quite a few. Not sure why you don’t use them or practice them and use them for good. Stop cosplaying consciousness and actually live it. Stop having summits, events, retreats, and podcasts regarding spirituality and holistic practices and only have one or two black people or people of color be invited and part of these events/podcasts. Start being a thorn in the side of racism, be loud about your disdain for it if you truly are against it. Take action where you are part of the change not just a spectator. Start organizing, strategizing and working to make change. There are multiple wars happening right now. Actual war. Spiritual warfare, energetic war, etc.

I could go on and on but I think you get the point. Because this shit has to end and y’all cannot continue to hide behind your spirituality or holistic practices and say “I don’t talk about politics on this page” or whatever. Because I WILL start calling you out when i see it and I will get others to do it too. I will make it my personal business and mission because I got time!

I also want my people to stop working with and buying from these white practitioners who remain neutral and quiet during these times. They gets none of my hard earned coins or my respect so make sure you do the same. I wish this wasn’t my first post back on Substack but at the same time, it’s on brand for me. I’ve always been one to speak my mind and not care who doesn’t like it. I was raised to speak up and I will do it every single time.

For a decent amount of time, I am enjoying it. In fact, there is much of my life that I’m enjoying more now than ever before. Something flipped like a switch when I turned 50 last year. But something else flipped back in my early forties it’s called perimenopause. And for a woman who has struggled with depression and anxiety for much of her life, perimenopause looked at me and said, “Oh, you have depression? Okay, hold my beer, I’m about to crank it up a notch.” Just like that, my bouts with depression, panic attacks, and anxiety intensified without warning. Not to mention the hot flashes that sneak up out of nowhere, the high blood pressure, and the weight that doesn’t want to leave without a fight.

Lately I’ve been on a roller coaster ride of emotion. I’ve also been confronting some bad habits I’ve picked up over the years and taking a hard look at what needs to be released so I can continue on this elevation that Spirit and the ancestors have me on right now. On a good note, I’m getting back into my spiritual practices to keep me grounded in myself and my faith. I’m beginning to shed the identity of the Strong Black Woman I thought I got rid of her years ago, but this one does not want to go without a fight. My Strong Black Woman puts on a brave face, shows up even when she’s exhausted, and throws herself into projects that go nowhere just for the sake of saying “I’m working on my business.” She’s also been known to do some spiritual bypassing to avoid problems head-on which is ironic, because I did write about this in my second book, The 7 Steps to Spiritual Liberation for Black Women. And yet here I am, doing it from time to time.

I know what you’re thinking: what in the world does this have to do with painting your toenails? Short answer, everything. Stay with me. I’m getting there.

I’ve been diagnosed with depression and anxiety for years. It used to be so bad that I didn’t do anything for myself. Sometimes I would barely shower. All I wanted to do was sleep. And eat. And sleep some more. But I had a child to raise. I had to work. Now my son is grown and out of the house, and I feel like I’ve transitioned into a more functional depression which, in my opinion, can be the most dangerous kind, because you live your normal life, mask on, and no one is the wiser.

According to the Google: High-functioning depression, (often chronic, like dysthymia) is a non-clinical term for experiencing persistent, low-grade depression while appearing to function normally in daily life. Despite managing work or social responsibilities, individuals experience symptoms like low energy, low self-esteem, and reduced joy (anhedonia) sometimes for years. It is treated with therapy, medication, and lifestyle changes.

Signs and symptoms:

• Persistent low mood or empty feeling most of the day

• Loss of interest in things that once brought joy or pleasure

• Constantly feeling tired or having low energy

• Difficulty concentrating or making decisions

• Low self-esteem, feelings of unworthiness, or guilt

• Covering up sadness with a facade of normalcy

I’m in therapy, I’ve tried medication (not a fan of how it makes me feel), and I’ve been making lifestyle changes. Therapy helps because I get to talk through my problems and feelings. The lifestyle changes like adjusting my diet, drinking more water, moving my body, and getting out of the house for my own little adventures, are slowly making a difference.

I’ve been feeling better these last few days. That’s when I realized I hadn’t painted my toenails in over a year which is not like me at all. I love looking down and seeing my toes all nice and colorful. Lately I’ve been drawn to the color green, so I painted them green. And no, I’m not posting a picture it’s just for me. I’ve also been buying new clothes, adding more color to my wardrobe, and that’s what has been healing me: color. More color in my home, my wardrobe, my plate, my life.

To my sisters out there waking up every day to slay the dragon of corporate America, menopause, and just life in general, let me invite you to paint your toenails. Add more color to your plate, your home, your life. Raise the vibration by taking in all of the beautiful things that make you happy. Depression is real, my love, and we carry it in large amounts in our community and so do our male counterparts. We can’t wait for someone to come save us from ourselves. That’s our job. Save yourself by making small changes where needed. Get a therapist (can’t over emphasize this one). You may not find the right one right away, so keep going until you find the one who aligns with your needs. No one has to know you’re in therapy as long as you know, that’s what matters. You don’t have to do this alone. In fact, I highly recommend that you don’t.

For years, I tried. I tried to care about what everyone else cared about. Tried to perform interest in environments that drained me. Tried to follow the invisible rules of who I was “supposed” to be.

Some of it I enjoyed. Much of it I did not. But like many of us, I learned early that belonging often comes at the cost of authenticity. Now that I am older, I understand something deeply: Presence is more fulfilling than performance.

I love writing.
I love poetry.
I love music that moves the spirit.
I love conversations that go beyond surface survival and into soul truth.

For a long time, I thought this made me strange. Now I understand it made me sensitive, intuitive, spiritually attuned.

Recently, I interviewed my dear friend and soul sister Denay on my podcast. She shared her journey as a neurodivergent Black woman who is also a psychic medium. For years she studied how to appear neuro-typical. How to mask. How to override her intuitive processing style just to function in environments that were never built with her in mind.

What struck me most was her realization:
She did not want to be normal.
She wanted to be fully herself.

Listening to her felt like witnessing a sacred reclamation.

Neurodivergent individuals, especially Black women, are often forced into layers of adaptation for survival. The world asks them to quiet their sensory experiences, suppress intuitive knowing, and regulate themselves into comfort for others.

But what if the goal is not regulation into normalcy, but recognition of divine design?

Allyship means honoring different neurological and spiritual experiences without trying to fix them. It means understanding that sensitivity is not weakness. That intuitive perception is not dysfunction. That difference is not deficiency.

Many of us neurodivergent or not have been taught to override our internal truth in order to be accepted. We have been conditioned to shrink our energetic expression so others can remain comfortable. But authenticity is not a performance metric. It is a spiritual practice.

There is a saying: We are born originals but die copycats.
I refuse that outcome.

I have seen how trying to be normal diminishes identity, self-worth, and spiritual vitality. I have experienced how loneliness can tempt us into self-betrayal.

Yet I have also witnessed the magnetic power of alignment. When we stand fully in who we are, the right relationships, opportunities, and environments begin to find us. Not always quickly. But always truthfully.

Normal is often just another word for unexamined conditioning. For inherited expectations. For living inside a box we did not choose.

I am not that woman.

I am the woman who will choose depth over distraction.Presence over performance. Truth over approval. And now I understand that honoring neurological diversity, spiritual sensitivity, and intuitive awareness is part of collective liberation.

Being normal is not the goal. Being whole is.
