The beginning of the end, both in terms of the year and the final season on maternity leave. It feels apt that Autumn is my last season before entering the working world again, as it’s also my favourite. September is the start, but where you can still wear knitwear and bare legs, the return of jeans (but with flip flops) and when just a trench coat over a shirt is enough.

Everyone I feel on here and beyond is ready for Autumn. The only time I feel sad for the start of September and long for an Indian summer is when we didn’t really get a summer in the UK. But no-one in Europe can accuse the weather gods of not delivering. It was hot hot hot, and likely because the weather gods are livid at what we’re doing to the planet. This is not a Substack to go into that, but I support their anger and feel equally nervous on what’s to come next.

I’ve put together some suggested outfits for potential Autumn plans (I love doing these).

Weekend market

Autumn weekends are made for markets. Farmer’s, antiques, vintage, flea - the lot, but my favourite is a combination. Yes I would like a fancy scotch egg as I comb through these vinyl records (even though I don’t own a player). Daylesford tote bag is perfect because it doubles as a cool-bag, so you can bring it all home. I also think it’s important to not leave statement jewellery for occasions, I love these mother of pearl pom pom earrings by Regina Pyo. Regal, but more interesting.

Games night

The season where staying in starts to become more fun than braving the outdoors. Games nights are the best, and a perfect excuse to welcome people over in whatever they feel comfortable in. Wine and chocolate are essentials, wired bras and make-up are not. My favourite thing here is the geeky t-shirt, I love it. P.s. Thank you for introducing me to these trousers!

Dining out

As I mentioned in a previous post, I loved the concept of dating your friends, so this outfit is in honour of that. Meeting at a busy wine bar, but having made an effort: yes to the sheer skirt and embellished earrings, worn with an oversized long-sleeve and ballet pumps to skip home. I love that balance of understated and extra.

*Not pictured in outfits: the double buggy and screaming twins at the market, the messy house at games night and the random children’s sock found in your jacket pocket at dinner. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

As I got older (and less small), Gap remained a staple in my wardrobe. Their underwear was always great, I bought my first perfect white tee there, and the denim was reliable. Maybe we collectively took it for granted and didn’t give it enough love, because in 2019 it started disappearing from the UK high street and eventually became online-only.

But for the first time since going on maternity leave, I was in Covent Garden the other week when, to my utter delight, I spotted that the Gap store had re-opened. Maybe they got it right with the Hailey Bieber collaboration and that’s finally brought the brand back around? Either way, with the ’90s brand resurgence still going strong and preppy style back in a big way, it feels like the perfect time to give Gap another chance.

Trousers in the above picture. It’s well documented that it’s been a summer of pull-on utility trousers. These are £50. Pointelle is also having a moment, and I like both the cropped cami in the picture but the t-shirt looks great too.

A great white t-shirt. This one is 100% supima cotton so feels very soft. I also like the vintage blue colour.

Mock neck and half zip, two big trends for this Autumn. But more importantly, it’s softer than soft brushed cotton as well as oversized but slightly cropped so it gives the borrowed look but doesn’t hide the waist.

Super nostalgic, this jumper gives CBK vibes. LOVE the neck and vintage look.

Finally, this oversized cotton jumper. If wool is too itchy for you, or the handwash icon on the label puts you off (I’m seriously having to think about this come Autumn and weaning the twins), then this is for you. It comes in cream, black and brown. Gap if you’re listening, please also do one in navy.

I accept that these pieces aren’t the most fashion-forward, but instead they’re real life suggestions that I would be wearing in the off moments like supermarket runs, coffee with friends, nursery runs and everything in between.

They’re examples of my reliables: the pieces in my wardrobe that form the base of an outfit, which I can then style into something a bit more interesting. I’ll add jewellery, accessories, a pop of colour and/or different textures depending on my mood.

And that reliability can be a luxury when the brain is already full.

This is my first summer in a very long time where I haven’t escaped to Europe for a much-needed time out: good books, long lunches and daily swims in the deep blue. And boy do I miss that.

So this summer, I’m largely holidaying through other people, which has made me realise we’re currently in a rather strange little pocket of the summer. The Scandinavians are returning fresh and ready after a reset, while the French, Italians and Spanish have firmly put their OOO on and will not be hearing from us until September. Half my feed is cleansing wardrobes, houses and minds post-holiday; the other half is only just beginning to exhale and unwind. But I’m enjoying both in equal measure.

There’s something quite lovely about this mid-summer limbo - this strange interlude between coming back and checking out. Summer isn’t quite winding down, but it isn’t really beginning either.

So, in honour of this slightly ambiguous moment, consider this post a bit of a summer brain dump. It’s a long one!

First up, my Amsterdam trip.

I recently read a beautiful Substack (which annoyingly I can no longer find), about the importance of dating your friends. To summarise: make the effort. Book the play, try a new restaurant, get dressed up - do all the things you’d do for a date, but with your friends.

We chatted, swam, drank, laughed, ate, walked, shopped and more. The perfect few days, and a real luxury now that I have babies so I didn’t take a single moment for granted.

Saves

I’ve followed for a long time on Instagram, but only recently did I realise she’s a fellow twin mum and my respect tripled. She never misses with her outfits. This one was worth a save, not because it was extraordinary but if you put it all together - well-fitted clothes, textured hair, elevated accessories and pared-back make up - it becomes something.

Flawless make-up on the equally flawless model . I followed after her fantastic but deeply personal post on Substack, I stayed for her regular updates as a new mum of daughter Jude, who’s the cutest and has the best eyebrows I’ve ever seen on a baby.

Julia Hichens’s (from ) house in Stockholm. The panelling! I want to read a book with a cup of tea and a piece of cake right here.

Helena Canadas (another great account for everyday style) recently posted this of her friend and I just thought: I must find that skirt! I’m still on the hunt…

CPHFW

I really do enjoy Copenhagen Fashion Week and all that comes with it. But what I have enjoyed previously has always been that it’s more relaxed, more low key. In the shows and street style, it’s always felt more natural - people wear those outfits when there are no cameras. I think it’s starting to move a bit more away from that and that would be a great pity. But here are some things that caught my attention:

I’m not sure you can document CPHFW without mentioning a Moosgaard twin. Here’s Amalie, wearing what she could be wearing on any other day and looking incredible. The purple stopped me in my tracks.

shared her highlights from Skall Studio Spring 27 and I loved this look in particular, but to be honest the entire collection was lovely. Their muse was Jane Birkin - hence the baskets - so perhaps it was inevitable that I was going to like it.

Really into these two white outfits! The accessories, the tailoring, silhouettes - both feel considered but that it didn’t cost them much brain space to pull together. Natural, effortless. As ever, great work !

Through the people I follow on Instagram who attended CPHFW, I was introduced to Rhea. “Rhea designs with a focus on timeless, lasting pieces that form the core of a wardrobe. And finally, my wants (but as they say “I want doesn’t get”!)

• Small thin gold hoops

I’ve been inspired after seeing the coolest waitress wear just 2 ultra-thin hoops in her first and second ear piercings and nothing else. I have 4-5 piercings in each ear, which each contain teeny tiny flat back studs (like these). But now, I want to take them all out and just wear these; so understated and chic.

• Ballerina heels

Ballet flats are everywhere, but due to high arches and over pronation from years of sport, super flat shoes are a no go for me - I can wear them for an evening, but I’ll feel the consequences the next day. I watch with envy as people do city breaks in the flattest of shoes. Miles of walking on basically nothing! I then had a thought, what if ballet pumps could come with small heels? I might even be able to sneak in my (sexy) insoles into the arches? Guess what, they’re coming. The chicest I’ve found are here (Massimo Dutti of course), but I’m tempted to try these Topshop ones at a third of the price first.

• Crossbody bag

I know, it’s so milennial to still want a crossbody but hear me out. I need to be able to put my keys, phone etc. in something that keeps my hands free to push a buggy, hold a baby (or two), pick up shopping and some times all three at the same time. But I also don’t want something that looks like I’m about to embark on a three-day hike. The brief, therefore, is: practical enough for motherhood, chic enough for dinner. Something I can throw across me for coffee with a friend, but that will also survive a trip to the park. Surprisingly tricky.

• Swedish holiday

And finally, I’ve been increasingly inspired by all the wonderful Scandinavians on here (I’m looking at you ) and Instagram to discover more of their corner of the world. So I’ve proposed Sweden as next year’s holiday. The twins will be 18 months and with temperatures rising, I’m increasingly convinced that heading north might be our calling. Give me long summer days, cool swims, a little red wooden house and nowhere to be.

I have been lucky enough to visit Kruger national park in South Africa a few times now with family and friends, and going with locals who have a timeshare there has made it affordable. Self-driving is the best because you can take your time, take roads no-one else seems to be going down and maybe hitting the jackpot with a sighting. There is no better feeling!

But in most cases, people come by air and don’t rent cars as the accommodation organises sunrise and sunset drives each day. These are amazing and often if we do self-drive, we treat ourselves to at least one organised drive. They are experts; they know which areas the animals have recently been seen in and communicate with other drivers on sightings.

In addition to these trips to Kruger, in my mid-20s I packed up my life, quit my job at NET-A-PORTER and moved to East Africa for 6 months to live in a national park, which specialises in conservation and rehabilitation. Quite the change! It was hands down the best thing I’ve ever done and I learned so much about myself. Life got simple quickly: there was no electricity, hot water came from lighting fires and all evenings were spent star gazing. I will never forget hearing the sounds of hyenas coming closer as I lay in bed, or having the resident ostrich, Evelyn, sleep outside of my hut every night guarding me.

Anyway, I digress, but the point I wanted to make is that I have lived in a national park and so there is some lived experience in these outfit suggestions and tips!

1. Sunrise game drive

It’s cold first thing in the morning but heats up quickly as the sun rises. Wear layers on top but go for shorts and grab a blanket that they give you.

• Fleece. This one from Sweaty Betty looks great for these moments. Zips all the way down so you can do a quick change while on the move.

• Vest top. Once it’s hot it’s hot hot. I like these different colour variations by Cos.

• Bermuda chino shorts. Slightly thicker material for some added warmth in the early morning and covers your thighs in the hot sun later in the day when sitting in the truck. I like the added detail of the fastening in these by Massimo Dutti.

• Hat. The trucks are usually covered so when you’re driving and it’s windy you can take it off. But if you jump out, or stop for a while, it’s nice to keep the strong African sun off your face. I like this design by Polo Ralph Lauren.

• Blundstone boots. They are perfect for keeping out dust, mosquitoes and everything else.

• Sunglasses for still being able to look for animals in peak sunshine! It felt right to go with the RayBan wayfarer here!

• Camera. I love my Olympus and have taken many photos on safari with it. It’s got enough oomph to take great photos, especially if you know your way around a camera, but compact enough to put into a small bag.

What else I’m packing:

• Thermos. They’ll likely stop for breakfast or coffee once you’ve been out a while, but if you can’t wait that long sip on your own. Also bring snacks.

• SPF. Face, body and lip balm! I used this for my face and didn’t burn once.

• Money for tipping the driver is a kind addition for their expert knowledge.

2. Sunset game drive

It’s still pretty warm when you head out, but you’ll be back when it’s dark and decidedly cooler. You can of course wear the same pieces as in the sunrise game drive (accessories especially) but I have suggested some alternatives as well. Otherwise there are just a few small tweaks that I’d make and have given my rationale. At sundowners, hopefully they offer you some iced amarula - the best!

• Long sleeve top. This one from Skims is the softest fabric I've ever tried on and when I received it I instantly knew it would become my long haul travel top, when I know I will need to spend hours in it at a time. Highest praise! Wearing this around your waist at first, and then putting on as the sun sets. It’s still pretty warm, but when the truck moves the wind is colder. If needed, you can always bring the fleece and put at your feet.

• Trousers. They’ll feel warm at first, which is why I’ve chosen linen and loose fit, but come sunset and the bugs are out, you’ll be glad you wore them.

• Trainers. If boots are too chunky for carrying in luggage, or just not your vibe, then any closed shoe will be fine.

• Hat. This one is very safari but there’s a reason for that, it’s practical. Bring back chin straps being cool (I do think they can be chic after my trip to Greece).

• Necklace. Just to add some flavour for the sundowner drinks while you’re on the drive!

What else I’m packing:

• Longer socks, ones that go higher up the legs so you minimise the risk of getting bitten.

• Mosquito repellent!

General tips

• Go in the dry season (July-September) for the best chances of seeing even the most elusive animals, because all the bush/grass has died back.

• Mosquitoes are not a joke, I know this first hand as I got malaria. In the evenings, always cover yourself fully if you’re sat outside.

• Dry season means lots of dust. Be prepared for lighter clothes in certain fabrics to stain (or at least need washing out - cotton and linen). Also a note that strong mosquito repellent can stain too.

• I did wear sandals around camp in the day, but on game drives or walking in the bush, closed shoes always. And always at night (see above on those pesky mosquitoes). Or, sandals with socks.

• Wearing neutral colours isn’t just for aesthetics. If you step out the vehicle (in designated areas!!!) or on a walk, animals can see you. It’s better to blend in more naturally with the landscape than stick out.

• If you can, choose national parks over private game reserves. The experience is just a thousand times better. The best bit of game drives is the chase of sighting something unexpected, because you don’t know where the animals are! Private game reserves usually know exactly where everything is, and it can just feel like a glorified zoo tour.

• Don’t geo-tag your photos. Poachers are increasingly using social media to find animals (like seriously you a**holes?), especially rhinos.

• Maybe the most obvious but also the most important - do not leave your car or truck unless you’re told it’s okay to do so. Animals see a vehicle as one whole object, but even a waving arm out the car can be seen as separate and become interesting to them.

• Finally, go all in. Take thousands of photos, don’t spend time on your phone (except to take photos if you didn’t bring a camera), ask the experts questions, get nerdy about nature, star gaze, but most of all, enjoy every second.

and I would spend weeks there: playing with friends, horse riding, walking for hours on beaches (in every weather) and being thoroughly well fed by our Mamgu.

Pembrokeshire is a bit of schlep to get to, but I am confident in saying this: when you get the weather right there is nowhere better. For years it felt like Cornwall’s quieter, less-discovered cousin, though these days it’s quickly catching up.

So, with that feeling in mind, alongside long coastal walks, pub lunches, unpredictable weather and generally trying not to look too city-bound, here are a few outfit ideas inspired by Pembrokeshire. But these could work on any UK trip!

1. Walking the coastal path

The UK’s only coastal national park - it’s well signposted, and passes 58 beaches along the way. I will admit that the outfit I’ve suggested is definitely not what most ramblers will be wearing when you meet them on the path. But if you’re a serious rambler, I doubt you’re coming here for outfit choices because you are a pro and you know that I am not. This is for those that for one day of their trip they’d like to experience a nice walk and see some great scenery without investing in all the gear (and have no idea). It’s also assuming you have nicer weather!

• Sports bra - doesn’t need to be maximum impact. I like these crop tops from Nike, and the pop of colour is always welcome instead of greying white sports bras.

• Walking shoes - Salomon XTs are trail-running shoes, and they look great. There is no better trainer for this.

• Sports shorts, because you are going to build up a sweat. I love these ones from Copenhagen-based cycling brand Pas Normal Studios.

• Tops - a vest top (this is COS) if the wind is low and the sun is out, long sleeve for when there is more of a breeze. LOVE this from brand SCRT.

• Hydration is key and my Yeti rambler is always with me.

What else I’m packing:

• Backpack - to keep all the snacks and extra layers in. I like this from Antler. Again, I’m not a walking pro so this is probably not what you’d buy if you were, but if you already have something like this then it works!

• Rain jacket, like this packable one from Free People.

• Snacks, always!

1. Evening drink at the local pub

This is The Swan in Little Haven. I have been going here for as long as I can remember. It sits right on the beach and there’s also an incredible viewing platform up the hill where you can look out over St Brides bay and watch the sunset. It’s incredibly dog friendly and does great beer and food. There’s also now a sauna on the beach, so if you’re into that, you can go for a pint after a sweat and dip. Balance.

• Cardigan. If you’re sitting on the beach wall outside it can get a little chilly. Love this one from Service Works. I think it’s meant for men but that’s never stopped me.

• Trousers - softer than jeans for a casual evening drink. These are my current favourites from M&S, they come in cream and chocolate too and are super soft.

• Blundstones. These will be worn everywhere on this trip, even the coastal path if they work for you. But they must be worn in ahead of time! New boots and those pesky blisters are not wanted here. Also thick socks for comfort and warmth post sea swim.

• I’m not advocating for getting a dog for a holiday, they are for life. But if you have one, this is their holiday too.

1. Beach walks

Walking on beaches here is non-negotiable, you just need to have the right clothing with you. This outfit is for those days (even in peak summer) when it’s not the warmest but there isn’t sideways wind and rain.

• Barbour - made for the countryside and these exact situations. Whenever I dig mine out I always enjoy going through the pockets and finding memories: shells, old receipts, lip balms. They last a lifetime. This one is the Glynis jacket, an update to the classic Bedale with a relaxed fit and signature cord collar.

• Jeans - these are Massimo Dutti straight jeans (again), they’re a firm favourite.

• Rugby shirt - a perfect hybrid of a sweater and long sleeve, with a collar to help with the wind. This beautiful one is by Brut Archives.

• Hat - I’ve posted about Cloimh before, because I love the style of this hat. But it’s also super practical for moments like these, and keeping those ears warm!

• I’ve added a rock pool net as we used to spend hours finding crabs, observing them and putting them back again. An amazing way to get children interested in exploring the natural world.

• Dog, optional but advised.

What else I’m packing:

• Car - public transport to get to each beach is few and far between.

• Picnic - following a windy walk, there’s nothing like opening up the boot and pouring coffee from a flask. Dipping welsh cakes in (only ever Tan Y Castell if you can’t get homemade) and enjoying the sea air.

Handy tips:

• A lot of the coastal car parks are run by the National Trust. Great if you have membership, expensive if you don’t.

• Pay attention to the tides for timing those walks!

• If you are bringing a dog, check the beaches allow them during your trip. At certain times of year, and certain beaches, they don’t allow - I know, it’s their holiday too!

A few recommendations:

• Beaches (non-exhaustive)

  • All year round walking: Little Haven/Broad Haven, Newgale, Freshwater West, Marloes Sands

  • Surfing: Whitesands, Newgale

  • Horseriding: Druidston, Nolton Haven

  • Day at the beach: Tenby north beach, Barafundle

• Boat trips

  • Ramsay island - you can book from St. Davids then head down to St. Justinians to catch the extremely fun boat over to the island. It’s fast, you bump over waves and get to see incredible wildlife - birds, seals and if you’re lucky, porpoise.

  • Skomer island - from the spring you can get the (less fun) boat over to Skomer, but you get to see the puffins - my favourite bird in the world! Catch this boat from Martin’s Haven.

There are so many towns to mention, and often the best ones are found by accident! But if you do get to St. Davids, the chocolate shop on the way down to the cathedral is the best. I’ve been getting an animal-shaped chocolate there since I was allowed and I still ask my parents to bring me one back even now…

We chose the Cyclades, and decided to not get a ferry from the main port of Athens. The main reason for this was that we found a surprisingly cheaper flight option in/out of Santorini. The ferry to our first destination from there was also much much shorter. We also decided, having tried to squeeze in too many places on holidays previously, that we would spend longer on the islands we chose and get a better sense of living on them.

Santorini (for a hot minute, did not enjoy) - Folegandros - Antiparos - Paros (for day trips with a car ferry) - Santorini (to fly home only).

If you’re heading to Greece this summer, these scenarios hopefully cover some of the things you’ll be experiencing! I’m so excited for you.

1. Day at a secluded beach

You’ve found a quiet beach basically to yourselves, arriving on foot or by moped. The water is crystal clear and delightfully blue. Pure heaven on earth.

• Itsy bitsy teeny weeny, polka dot bikini. Maybe controversial, but Greece is the place to go topless. Do it, it’s so freeing and no-one cares, at all. You are a goddess.

• To walk down to the beach, I understand you need more clothes. A vest top, I love this fine strapped one from Mango, with a simple pareo to wrap around (can also be used for a pillow, or path to the sea). You can probably buy one there, but I saw you can get ahead of time if you want, from Etsy.

• Flip flops. Not all beaches are soft sand, quite often it’s pebbles so something that won’t melt and can get wet (avoid black!) is advised. I haven’t tried these yet, but I keep hearing good things about the arch support of Archies. I may have to try.

• Sunglasses (Lié Studio) and a hat (Alex Eagle) are key, there is often zero shade and it can get pretty intense.

• Snacks, water, and a good book.

1. Sunset meal at the local taverna

You’ve just ordered the catch of the day, the octopus is drying in the wind over your shoulder and the tzatziki with pita bread has arrived. The house rosé wine is darker than your dress but it’s cold and cheap.

• Dress - easy and thrown on after a post-beach shower. This one from The Elder Statesman isn’t a “throw on” as such, but it’s the perfect colour, material and vibe for this kind of scenario. Yes, an investment, but it is currently 70% off on Net-A-Porter.

• Flat sandals so you’re not hobbling your way to the table, but still suede and chic. These are from Hush (via M&S).

• My holiday dressing 101 - add an interesting bag to make an outfit feel fancier. I love love love this beaded one from Zara (also comes in green).

• Low statement jewellery. I haven’t included a necklace as with the dress I don’t think it needs it, but some bracelets (tennis and beads) and some stud earrings show intent. All Missoma, so if they go missing it doesn’t feel so painful.

• Sunglasses in case the sun hasn’t quite gone down.

• Rosy cheeks to match the dress! I can’t go anywhere without this one from Merit, in Beverly Hills.

1. Travel day on ferries

You’ve chosen the most remote island (we did the same) but now that means a long day on a ferry because it stops at every other island first. You’ve lugged your luggage (is that why it’s called luggage?) onto the ferry and watched it be buried in amongst a sea of other suitcases. Will you ever see it again? Who knows, but you have to leave it where it is and go upstairs because everyone else behind you is getting annoyed. This is a practical outfit!

• I told you they’d be here! The Teva’s were golden on travel days, You need to be able to jump onto a ferry, with your luggage, and losing a sandal in the water is not it.

• Oversized t-shirt - no burnt shoulders if you’re up on the deck and if you have heavy backpacks to carry to/from the port it doesn’t hurt your shoulders. I like these from Arket.

• More practical advice (but everyone wears them in Greece!), a sun hat with a chin strap. If you’d told me that I’d buy one of these before I went, then I would have laughed, but every chic woman I saw had one and it cemented the need for me.

• I love Bode, and I love these shorts.

• Large tote bag (from Merci), to carry all the essentials: passports, water, and snacks.

• Jewellery, the outfit doesn’t have to be solely practical! Gold hoops always, and these H&M beads (currently on sale).

• Water and headphones, to minimise the risk of hearing people vomiting. Oh and sea sickness tablets, but buy before you travel to Greece!

1. Hired a boat for the day

Another water day, but just your favourite people are on board and you can decide where/when you go. You’ve brought drinks and snacks, your captain is decidedly cute and the water is so clear and blue that you can snorkel for hours before coming up for air and enjoying some ice cold beer.

• Swimsuit. Fun, colourful and when you repeatedly dive in doesn’t go missing in the water. This gorgeous one is from the new collaboration Eckhaus Latta x Mango.

• Linen minidress (from With Nothing Underneath) for all the moments you’re not in the water, and I am obsessed with the colour of these green silk shorts from Comme Si to peak through under the minidress.

• Hair bandana to not burn your scalp! This one is Free People.

• Speaker for music, Yeti coolbox for the drinks and a Finisterre dry bag to not ruin your day by getting all your essentials wet/broken.

• I’d still take a seasickness tablet just in case.

And there you have it! My favourite island that we visited was Folegandros. There are hardly any cars on the island and you wouldn’t ever need to hire one. There’s a bus to the nearest beach from the Chora (the best best little town), but then you should hop on a little boat around the corner (or hike 20 minutes) to a better beach that has a small taverna, which serves the most delicious food.

I’ll now be dreaming of Greece this summer!

These are probably my most visited cities in Europe. I have been in all seasons, but my favourite is undoubtedly the warmer months. However, I do concede that they can get too hot.

Paris

This is an outfit I can imagine wearing in peak summer - it’s very hot, and the countdown is on to the locals escaping the stale city to head to their countryside/coastal retreat for the month of August. The outdoor bars are in full swing and the parks are full with Parisians trying to find shade.

I lived in the South of France for a year (more on that another time) and became very attached to a lot of the food. So much so that I’m also adding below the items that I always bring home after a trip to France (when Eurostar lifts it’s no dairy shall enter the UK rule…).

For local and expert style advice, look no further than , who provides weekly updates on what Parisians are wearing. J’adore!

• Seersucker shirt in mocha from With Nothing Underneath is beautifully light, soft and easy to throw on or around the waist when the shoulders are getting a bit too much sun.

• Floaty white dress (yes this is a nightdress from Zara Home) to keep cool and carefree.

• Bandana to wear on the head to protect from the sun, but can easily be worn around the waist. I saw this particular one from ’s delightful outfit posts on Scandi summer wardrobes.

• Two new accessories from Cos, canvas plimsolls are back (so French) and this very chic paper tote bag.

What else I’m packing:

• agnes. b iconic snap cardigan in navy, for evenings sat outside drinking rosé.

• Linen wide leg trousers - my go-to pair are these from M&S.

Doing it slightly differently on this one, instead sharing places I’ve recently saved to try on my next visits:

Clamato in 11th, oysters galore and generally looks like very tasty seafood. My friends and I would/will enjoy this one.

Cafe Verlet in 1st. Fresh madeleines and tea made with real tea leaves.

Boutique La Bonne Pioche in 11th - a secondhand clothes shop I want to visit!

Supermarket essentials:

• Yoghurts - the French do it so much better. My favourite is the coconut yoghurts, by Perle de Lait.

• Desserts - La Laitiere riz au lait or ile de flottante and Danone custards (also the white chocolate one, mon dieu).

• Compotes - British people think I’m mad and that it’s baby food but the French enjoy fruit compotes past the age of 4. The Andros brand is great, but often the supermarket own brand is just as good. Apple and pear = perfection.

• Fruit juice - the Andros clementine juice by the litre. You won’t regret it.

• Grand Fermage salted butter, with actual salt crystals.

• Biscuits - LU Le Petit Beurre and St.Michel Galettes.

• Alcohol - Byrrh aperitif, or Vabe. Slightly tricky to come by so when it’s found there are multiple purchases. And any pale Provence rosé.

• Orangina, always.

• Cheese - many and all but most definitely Saint-Marcellin.

Barcelona

Another great love. It now feels familiar and I enjoy spending time away from tourist hotspots, of which there are many good ones. Getting lost in the backstreets, finding hidden bars and spending a good amount of time drinking vermouth.

In the summer months, it’s baking hot, and the city beach isn’t the best for cooling down but sometimes needs must. I’d actually say travel slightly further south to Garraf or Sitges, for some beach time if that’s what you’re after.

I wouldn’t recommend wearing denim in the middle of the day, unless you’re visiting in the beginning/end of summer, but it’s great for evening dinner and drinks.

• White cotton blouse, this one is from Zara and I love the square neck.

• Denim bermuda shorts are a fail safe city break outfit choice, though in the height of summer these would be coming out more for dinner. I like the fit of the Hush ones.

• Suede ballet pumps for comfortable walking in the evenings.

• Hat like this one from &OtherStories, I’d curl the ends up like I saw recently on Instagram. It looks so cute.

• Beaded necklace like this from Lie Studio, though there are many on Etsy!

Some recommendations:

Bormuth or Casa Delfin for aforementioned vermouth.

Bar Brutal for a cool vibe, organic wine and interesting tapas.

Dr Stravinsky cocktail bar - very interesting cocktails with homemade spirits. Great building, indoors and great to escape the heat.

Xarcuteria La Pineda - a tiny charcuterie place that also serves wine and cheese plates. Need I say more.

There are considerations to make when getting dressed: are you going to be on your knees chasing them around the floor, is there dribble/spit up coming for you, are there felt tip pens in hands? Or all 3?!

I am new to motherhood (6 months in) and so far I am only making small adjustments to what I’m wearing. I want to and will adapt to my new normal, but when everything else is topsy turvy at the beginning and I’m learning to navigate my own sense of self in this chapter; I’d like the description of my style to start with something other than the word “mother”. Of course it will feature, but I am many things at once.

So here’s what I’ve done so far:

• Swapping dark to light trousers when going out without children. Navy leggings, darker blue denim, khaki comfy chinos get swapped for cream chinos, ecru denim (I don’t like piercing white, personal preference).

• Stopped wearing henley tops when the babies were really little. They did so much contact napping, and with two I basically had one on me at all times. Buttons are not comfortable for them. I’m now starting to wear them again but reserving more for the days I pop out to meet friends for a coffee.

• My winter wool knits were put away. I had my twins in late December, and normally my extensive knitwear collection is on full display until at least March. This year, absolutely not. It’s not cosy on their sensitive skin and I didn’t want to risk all kinds of bodily fluids on my beautiful 100% wool. Instead, it was sweatshirts, thermal layers (Uniqlo you are the best) and cotton knitwear.

• Swapping bags depending on the outing. This is probably an obvious one! With children, I look like I’m moving into wherever I’m going with a large backpack. Without children, it’s delightful to carry a small bag.

• Wearing the same trainers to go walking because I can go miles and miles in them. My Salomon XT6 at this point deserve a medal. I’m probably going to get a sock tan this summer because no sandal can support me (mentally and physically) in the same way. But if I’m not walking, I’m enjoying the novelty of wearing nice, less sensible shoes.

• High-waisted underwear, who knew! Everything seems to hit the exact line of my c-section scar, which is sensitive. All hail these undies from M&S, my friend event went and bought me a second pack when I was still in hospital so I didn’t run out each week.

• Wearing my hair up a lot. I have long hair and I don’t feel the urge to have a mum bob just yet. My hair is thick and needs length to weigh it down, so for now it’s up or in a plait on the days where I don’t feel like styling (i.e. when I’m not seeing anyone outside of the house). As they start grabbing, I need to invest in some silk scrunchies so they don’t pull!

Jewellery is my last point, but it’s not something I’ve committed to changing just yet. I’m still wearing my never-take-off necklace and earrings, but I know they are coming up to the magpie age of grabbing. I think when we get there, I’ll go for something less sentimental that they can tug (necklace not earrings!).

I’m curious as to what other adjustments I’ll continue to make.

Rather than dwell on it, I’ve been daydreaming about all the trips I’ve taken to this beautiful island. I’ve visited almost every year for the past two decades, and I know that when the time comes, I’ll be taking my babies back there for many years to come.

What I love most about Mallorca is how differently everyone experiences it. The island has so many personalities, landscapes and pockets to discover that no two holidays ever seem quite the same.

I was planning to space these destination dressing posts out a little more, but I got too excited about this one. So, if you happen to be heading to Mallorca this month and this proves useful, let’s get into it.

1. Beach swimming

Mallorca has so many beautiful beaches. But the best swimming places tend to be the ones you have to work harder for - this is Cala Llombards and I’ve suggested an outfit accordingly.

• I. love. these. shorts or ‘bloomers” by Suzie Kondi. Towelling, cherry red and basically hot pants. They are perfect for moments like this. You’ll likely need to hike down from where you left, so you won’t want to be in a skirt or anything you could trip up in.

• What’s statement bloomers without a brightly coloured bikini to match? This one is from &OtherStories (I love their swimwear collections each year). Also a bit of support for said hike.

• Most importantly you need good support in your sandals. These Teva Voya Infinity sandals are great for this - I bought them a few years ago for a trip to the Greek Islands when I knew I’d need to do long days in them. No regrets!

• Love this necklace from Hush with the red cord. It screams summer, and means some accessorising without the fear of losing something too sentimental.

• Hydration, snorkels and a good book - essentials for a beach trip.

What else I’m packing:

• Towel - ideally a thick one because those rocks aren’t cosy.

• Headwear - bandana, cap or sun hat due to zero shade.

• Snacks - there’s not always a bar available, and swimming makes me hungry.

2. Market trip

Oh the markets, they are exquisite. I would even say that if you’re not there for very long and would normally choose beach over a market, don’t. There is so much on offer, and so many types of markets on any given day. My favourites are Santanyi, Arta and Valldemossa but I know there are so many more!

• Don’t pack a market bag, buy one there! There are always stalls of beautiful market bags at really good prices.

• A dress that can cope with the heat, because my goodness it can get warm in the back streets. This one is from Zara and yes it says a knit but it looks very thin.

• An essential hat for keeping your face out of the sun, this is the &OtherStories one again.

• These rope sandals from M&S go really nicely with the dress. Or the Teva sandals above if we’re being light on packing.

3. Dinner in Palma

After a beach day, it’s just so nice to get dressed up and head out to dinner. I’ve chosen Palma, but the exceptional quality of the restaurants across the island means you can do this nearly anywhere.

• Linen top from Eres - the neckline gives a really delicate, dressed up feeling but the linen and yellow keep it summery and low key.

• Navy satin wide-leg trousers are surprisingly harder to come by than black. I love these from COS. Just a slightly more relaxed colour than black.

• An overshirt for when it finally gets cooler, I love this from Massimo Dutti. The high neck is so chic.

• Bags (and accessories in general) are a great way to be a bit extra with an outfit. I love to do this - keeping an outfit fairly minimal and then adding a vibey bag. This one is from Zara, collection with Marisa Berenson.

• Statement earrings from Heaven Mayhem at Selfridges to continue the extra-ness.

• Flip flops - for balance!

4. Sunset drinks

This is for those moments where you head to the beach in the later afternoon, knowing you’ll stay into the evening, or the opposite - you had the intention of leaving after a day in the sun but the cold beer at the beach bar was all too tempting and you find yourself still there as the sun sets. Both moments are delightful, enjoy them!

My favourite place to do this (and my phone background for the last five years as a reminder) is around the coast in Porto Colom.

• Bikini - classic shaped but a bright colour for when the sun goes down. This one is Eres. Top and bottoms - the best (if an investment) brand for swimwear.

• Beach dress - slightly see-through, glamorous but covering. Very Missoni-esque but actually Zara.

• Sunglasses - this style is perfect for this look! From Jimmy Fairly

• Tote bag - I really like terry towel material for a beach bag (also great to double up as a pillow or seat). This one is Mango.

• Sangria, but of course.

If you are heading to Mallorca this summer, have the most wonderful time and I’ll maybe see you there next summer!

Alongside the outfits, I’ll be sharing a few favourite spots and saves from each place. I’m certainly not claiming to have discovered any of them, just places I’ve enjoyed or excited to try on my next visit.

First up, Northern Europe, and two cities that come alive in summer: Amsterdam and Copenhagen.

Amsterdam

This summer I will be visiting Amsterdam, as part of a wider trip to the Netherlands for the other half of the family to meet the twins, if their passports arrive in time. But within that, I will be spending a couple of days with my best friend in Amsterdam. I cannot wait! Being with a Dutch person, I’ve found myself in this city more in recent years and I do really love its charm. I have so many saved places on Maps it looks like I’ve thrown up on it.

• Navy sweatshirt - oversized, comfortable. Perfect for travel, cooler days or evenings and easily tied around the waist. Mine is Arket.

• Grey vest - this mottled grey colour from Massimo Dutti is delicious. I love the fit too: high crew neck but with low arm loops, very flattering.

• Linen bermudas - these are from LouLou de Saison but I’m going to cheat and show you these from ASOS which are 1/10th of the price and are perfect. I bought in both ivory and black.

• Woven leather bag - I bought mine from Hush a couple of years ago (I don’t think it’s still available), when Dragon Diffusion Nantucket launched. It’s still my trusty city trip bag of choice.

• Yeti 20oz rambler. Hydration is key in between coffee, beer and bitterballen.

• Gold hoops, always.

What else I’m packing:

• Rain jacket. You just never know in the Netherlands and rain shouldn’t stop anyone. Love this one from Free People (it also packs down in a bag - genius no?).

• Decent walking shoes. It’s not so easy for non-locals to rent bikes, and I’m not sure I’m confident enough yet to go up against Dutch riders in the city centre. They mean business. I’m taking my Salomons.

• Cap. For all weathers it’s just useful. Mine is Alex Eagle.

Some recommendations:

JWO Lekkernijen - a delicatessen in the Jordaan where you can get freshly made broodjes with all the fillings.

Cafe t’Smalle - where the photo above is from! One of many good cafes to get a beer.

Kikkies - another cafe to have beers and bitterballen while you people watch.

Flo’s Deli - the best, BEST bagels outside of New York. This one is by Vondelpark too.

Copenhagen

When I first arrived in Copenhagen, I instantly felt at home - more than any other European city that I’ve visited. I’m not even sure I could explain why, it was just a feeling. I must confess that I am still yet to visit in the summer, but I know from everything I read that the city comes alive in summer. If I loved it in the cold, I can only imagine how I’ll feel in the warmth.

• White henley long sleeve for cycling back post swim at La Banchina. I managed to get my hands on the Arket x Laila Gohar collaboration, but this one from Zara looks like the next best thing.

• Linen bermudas, like these one from Massimo Dutti. With the top so relaxed, I think adding tailored shorts makes it feel more intentional.

• Black flip flops - an easy no brainer, and with cycling there is less of a need for arch support.

• Colourful swimsuit, like this one from &OtherStories.

• Sunglasses from Lie Studio, a new launch and one I’ve been waiting for a while for! These are the Lee style, with slightly larger frames.

What else I’m packing:

• A striped cotton sweater, like this one from WNU. It’s notably colder once the sun goes down, and likely I’d be cycling with wet hair, so would feel the chill.

• My trusty waxed tote bag from GAP to carry everything I need.

• Towel from Tekla to sunbathe and dry myself off.

I’ve been adding to Maps since I went, so these are a mix of recommendations plus saves for the next visit:

• La Banchina - the restaurant in the above photo, which also serves chilled drinks to those sunbathing and swimming.

• Kødbyen (Meatpacking District) in Vestebro. I went to a restaurant there when I visited and I loved the area. Next time I want to try Hart bakery, for obvious reasons!

• Louisiana Museum of Modern Art - I cannot wait to visit here one day!

• Pompette natural wine shop and bar - low key, no fuss and chilled. How I like my wine.

I own a lot of pyjamas, like a lot. it’s my favourite place to be, and I like to be comfortable while I’m there.

The trend of wearing nightwear outside of the bedroom has resurfaced in recent years, see The Row for adding a slip to an outfit (I loved) so that the bottom draped under a sweater and over the jeans. Doen launched the Iona silk shorts, which I think some people would definitely describe as nightwear. But they looked amazing, see below last summer in them.

Fast forward a bit, and the high street is catching up - lace, silk and sheer are everywhere. In short, everyone is wearing nightwear out. I think the people who get it right are the ones who style it with something decidedly not nightwear, which makes it feel intentional rather than like they’ve simply forgotten to get dressed.

The idea of wearing a white cotton nightdress or tunic in the daytime comes and goes, but I’ve always loved the carefree ease of it. In another life, I’d be wearing one of these while walking to collect my morning baguette in the small French village I live in.

1. Dress, Free People / 2. Jelly shoes, H&M / 3. Gold-plated hoops, Missoma / 4. Straight jeans, Massimo Dutti / 5. Market bag, Sezane

Simple outfit, but with some character. I’d add a red silk scarf as a bandana and/or a brown leather belt as well. These jeans are also the most perfect wash, and yes this is a very fancy “market bag”!

This would be me, collecting all of my baguettes for the day.

So I’m on the hunt for an authentic French cotton tunic to live out this fantasy. I’m thinking Etsy is the most likely place - if anyone knows any vendors, let me know!

Bermuda shorts are perfect for wearing once the weather is good enough. Office, park, city, beach - all ticked. They can be elegant, as well as helping to address any upper-leg insecurities (which I have).

A real mix of more structured, tailored fabrics, light, flowy linen, and then the classic denim — they cover it all. I specifically have some thoughts on wearing denim Bermuda shorts, which apply less to the tailored version:

1. Length is important - too long and it can look like you accidentally bought cropped jeans or pedal pushers.

2. If it’s a wide leg, there can be too much thick material around the knees. If you want a wide leg, go for a thinner fabric (chino or linen work nicely).

3. As most of the photos above show, you can either lean into the grungier look (oversized long sleeve and socks with converse, or similar), or — and I prefer this — elevate them with delicate and interesting flats. With tailoring you can play around with this as the fabric is already elevating the look - holliemercedes does this really well.

1. Denim - I like these from Mango (£29.99).

2. Linen - these tailored ones from ASOS look great and are £36, or slightly longer length ones from Hush here at £75.

3. Tailored - Uniqlo win again with these at £24.90.

And where can I find the light pink shorts in the middle picture? So nice!

Finally, I recently discovered Helen Taylor, whose TikTok blew up when her morning yoghurt bowls went viral. Niche, yes. I tried her chia pudding recipe, which I then add to plain Greek yoghurt in the morning and if I’m lucky some fruit and nuts. It’s quick, delicious and simple. Here’s her recipe, I take no credit:

• 1 tbsp chia seeds

• 50ml milk (I use dairy but coconut would be tasty)

• 2 tbsp Greek yoghurt

• 1 tbsp honey

• 1 lime - grated zest and juice

Method: Combine all the ingredients and leave overnight in the fridge.

It’s quite sweet because of the honey, so you don’t need to add any other sweetener, but the lime keeps it fresh and zingy

Let me know if you try it! I reckon oranges would work really nicely too.

Recently I found myself searching Pinterest (which you can find here) for images of people wearing a variety of shirts. As I’m not currently in need of looking office-ready, and instead wanting low maintenance comfort, I can see that I’m drawn to shirts that have loose, lighter fabrics and are worn with a few buttons down. Quite summery and effortless.

I liked this one (pictured below) that I saw in COS the other day, where the design achieves this look and there is no top button. The stripe and slightly more tailored material stops it being too beach. Very very nice.

M&S are also doing some slightly different shirt options at the moment. I got this one which looks more for spring than summer but it is light weight enough for the warmer months. I like that it gives you back a waist.

recently wrote a lovely post on interesting brands to buy shirts from here. She always finds brands that are more off the beaten track, and where you’ll likely then not match with someone else on the tube/in the office.

Completely NOT off the beaten track, but I found two shirts from Pull & Bear of all places that I thought were cool, and not expensive. This checked shirt and then this one that comes with a matching bandana to wear around the waist.

Finally, I leave you with this super cool styling, with the red scarf worn around the waist. Low effort, but considered and I love it. Chef’s kiss.

We went to Oren in Hackney and it was delicious. As well as just being out in the real world, the highlights were the vermouth aperitifs, and oysters with a salsa verde and artichoke puree. Chefs kiss. It’s in the Michelin guide, which is how my boyfriend found it, and we went for an early dinner but it was full by 7pm, on a Tuesday!

I turned 37 this year, and my presents from my parents were all gardening focused. Fleece lined gardening clogs? Sign me up. I also became a member of my nearest Gardening Club and will be spending hours walking around there in the coming months. Slowly tending to our garden and making it our own was a task I was most looking forward while on mat. leave. Alas, it’s slower than I’d like as it turns out twins are a handful but it brings me so much joy when I can be out there.

I’m also going to George Northwood’s salon soon for some much needed colour put back in. These photos are exciting me to return to light blonde, no more dark sallow blonde please. I really like his salons, and the way they do colour is right up my street: subtle, natural and perfect for the lazy/busy to upkeep.

Here’s some lovely things I’ve seen recently:

1. ’s ad for Hunter boots. I loved these photos, shot by the incredible Emily Yates. Very similar to the Pinterest board above! Also how nice is the Maggie Marilyn knit she is wearing too?

2. I received a Hush voucher for my birthday and I think I am either going to buy this white skirt (for vibes like the above) or these long denim shorts.

3. I saw the photo below on ’s Substack, and I went straight onto Vinted and found a vintage Gant rugby shirt. I love it, and have been wearing it with these Free People dungarees (they are so soft). I love the Sea NY shirt that she’s wearing and how she’s paired it with nice earrings and a slick bun to keep it from looking too casual.

4. Niche one, so ignore if you aren’t in the market for a baby bag. My best friend started working at Roka London earlier this year, and recommended their new release bag for when I started adventuring out of the house. It’s an investment, but it’s pure joy to have everything I need in one place, separated into areas - there’s an insulation section for keeping bottles cool, a wet section for dirties and a clipped in shoulder bag with a changing mat. They have quite literally thought of everything.

Everyone and their mum is talking about CBK style, and there are already plenty of Substack articles on how to emulate the look in 2026. In my opinion, the Scandi girls have taken the 90s aesthetic and run with it best, while the all-American New England version is something I approach with a bit more caution. If you were a teenager like me in the noughties, the Abercrombie & Fitch and/or Jack Wills era still haunts you slightly.

That said, I do love a bit of American collegiate style, Polo Ralph Lauren does it so well and still manages to stay relevant. The recent menswear runway was spot on and everyone (men and women) took note.

I can’t deny that I’ve been influenced by Love Story, I want to lean into the 90s style again like I have visited Cape Cod but without it being my entire personality. Here’s what I’ve found recently that I’ve liked:

1. showed me this jumper and I fell in love. The neckline is spot on and I want to be wearing this while walking getting sandy/salty on a welsh beach this summer (sadly I won’t be walking on a beach in Nantucket anytime soon).

2. I saw this M&S dress in person, and it’s even better than it looks online. It feels more premium than the £50 price tag (currently 20% off with Sparks card), the style reminds of Dôen.

3. At this point I should probably work for them, but another M&S steal, these suede boat shoes can be smart, casual and everything in between. I prefer the darker colour, the light laces on the sand versions are a bit meh.

4. Another brand I should probably work for at this point, Hush. Very old school but I was recently sent their latest catalogue through my door and I loved nearly every page. I do think their e-comm styling is a lot less appealing as when I went to find some of the pieces I was put off some pieces, but I think this Salty sweatshirt would look really cool, worn how they have styled it here.

5. I bought this waxed tote bag from GAP recently and I am thrilled - it’s got a great thickness to it, and the two straps are perfect for different scenarios. It rivals the LL Bean or Alex Mill versions that everyone seems to have. (I wouldn’t say no to a personalised Alex Mill tote though…). You can order GAP items and get them delivered to your nearest Next, as the brand now shows up really weirdly in the UK.

6. Finally, I was served this rollneck sweater from Abercrombie & Fitch via Instagram ads. It’s technically menswear but who cares, they often have the better sweaters anyway. Similar to the J Crew rollneck but without the duties. I’m in.

Lastly, Calvin Klein nailed Sarah Pidgeon’s look for the Oscars. Perfection.

It does feel strange to think it’s March already, but I for one am very excited for the change of season, and for feeling motivated to take daily walks without battling cold weather gear. Spring is my favourite season, with Easter being my ultimate holiday. Growing up, it was the one time we were allowed chocolate at breakfast. What’s not to love?!

I’ve found some inspiration for what I’d like to be wearing in the coming weeks and months, as we slowly begin to peel off the thick winter coats and boots, swapping them for lighter jackets and sandals.

I would never say that my style is girly or frilly, but Spring always seems to inspire me to reach more for romantic blouses and soft, pastel colours. Pale pink in particular is everywhere and it could be all too easy to end up looking like a marshmallow. I’d wear with jeans, boots, a chunky jumper round the neck or waist and a denim or leather jacket, to not feel like I’ve veered too far from my normal self. Here’s some that I’ve found recently.

1. This linen blouse from Massimo Dutti is perfection - the warm pink that works so nicely with blue denim (also not too girly pink and would look ace with a tan), the relaxed neckline, everything. It’s also a great thickness so great for now with jeans and jackets, but also in summer where I’d consider adding a cord necklace.

2. I don’t always love poplin shirts, I don’t like to make sounds with my clothing (weird to describe but IYKYK). However, I really like this waisted version from Zara. It’s different from the usual boring blue poplin shirts you see around, great lines and creates a lovely silhouette. I’d deal with the crispy sound I’d make because I’d look great.

3. This neckline and front bib detail make this shirt from COS perfect for spring. Worn with a knit if it’s still chilly and the neck frills poke out the top, and when it warms up, you get the white-tie dress code effect - chic, but relaxed. I’d keep it casual with denim to not look too formal.

4. Mango hasn’t really captured my imagine in recent months/year, but I always go take a look at what they do at this time of year because they like a blouse in spring as much as I do. Yes, this one is very frilly and so would need to be toned down in the rest of the outfit but I love it; it also nods to the pale pink trend that’s creeping in without going too off-piste.

5. Sheer, pink and styled with brown - thank you Reformation! The oversized fit of their Eli shirt is great so it’s not taken too seriously.

6. Bear with me. Yes, it’s a very structured and shiny fabric that looks like it came from the 80s, but the Japanese-inspired neckline/buttons are very now. Imagine this worn with blue vintage denim, with a tiny (tiny) flash of skin between. Try it before you judge. From Stories.

I hadn’t updated these clothes since Covid, and so they were worn when nobody could see me, the bottom half on a zoom call or the end of a long day and chilling on the sofa. There are holes, old stains and saggy knees. Charming.

But then I needed them to be seen in public, and I wanted to give the impression that believe it or not, I was a somewhat put together person. I try to usually achieve this through my outfit choices - I’m not iron-obsessed and one of my styling words is “undone”, but it’s always been a considered choice rather than lack of care.

Fast forward to now, I’m spending more time indoors (often with visitors), or on short trips outside to friends houses and parks, and I still want the same thing from my loungewear. It needs to be functional, comfortable and not like I’ve put them on from the floor. Time for an update.

Luckily for me, this category has grown exponentially in recent years, from higher price point brands with quality fabrics to high street options that can tolerate stains and high temp. washes - there’s a lot of choice.

Something I personally don’t like is super thick rigid cotton sweats. There’s a balance between the thickness looking more expensive, which means less baggy knees and holding its shape, but too rigid that it feels restrictive and you can’t move freely. Also a middle age comment, but thick sweats take an age to dry which I don’t have time for and are then crispy and never as soft.

These are some of the brands where I’ve found that they have what I’m looking for, and I’ve highlighted a few of my favourite options from each. I’m sure there are plenty more for me to discover so this isn’t an exhaustive list!

Vuori - A Californian brand with an effortless West Coast feel — surfing, fitness, healthy lifestyle. I have friends who swear by their Performance Joggers, especially for long-haul flights. I love this new sweater and trousers in brown: chic enough for a morning walk, made in French terry, with a barrel leg.

Alo - Another great Californian native, but more yoga and wellness based. Love this ¼ zip — this style of jumper is everywhere right now. It’s giving post-Pilates energy, and as I ease myself back into fitness, feeling the part gets me one step closer to actually doing the class.

Adanola - This one skews younger and very trend-led — I can imagine it everywhere on uni campuses. Lila Moss is the latest spokesmodel, which tracks. I love the varsity collection, very preppy. This long sleeve (pictured) is perfect for lounging and the knit sweatpants look so cosy, if not particularly outdoor friendly.

Sweaty Betty - I’ve moved away from SB as a brand as the patterns started to feel a bit too mumsy. That said, a lot of what I currently own is old SB — and despite the baggy knees, it’s survived. One thing I will buy again and again: the All Day leggings. They’re genuinely the best. They stay up, feel soft, and don’t show lumps and bumps. The maternity version was also a solid 10/10.

Pangaia - Colourful basics - think American Apparel, but better quality and with more of a conscience. It’s a B-Corp, using recycled and responsibly sourced materials. They do both heavyweight and midweight capsule collections. For reasons mentioned above, I’m firmly a midweight lover, and this is a great sweat set. I also love the simple branding, it’s so cool.

H&M - I’ve found a high-street version (pictured) of the Vuori set I mentioned above, at a fraction of the price. It also means it can be more hard-wearing and handle a lot more, without you worrying you’ve stained a £120 sweatshirt.

M&S - Every Substack of mine now seems to include M&S. Is it showing my age, or has their buying team had a refresh in recent years? Who knows. But for some things — comfort especially — I’ll always check here (I’ve worn their underwear since my first bra). I particularly love this knit hoody, which I spotted on a friend the other day.

Free People - Not a loungewear brand per se, but their Movement collection is excellent. The Hit the Slopes fleece jacket is iconic. I love these track pants (pictured) — very ’80s, great for quick errands, and they wash and dry quickly if (when) something gets on them.

What florals in Spring are to Miranda Priestley is what knitwear in January is to Substack - hardly groundbreaking. But as it’s likely to be the largest section of most people’s wardrobe (for those that live in colder climates), it’s understandably a hot topic.

Though I already own an undisclosed number of knitted jumpers, I am always on the hunt for another. Like the white t-shirt and vintage denim, the search for the perfect knit is ongoing.

My collection ranges from wool blends to more synthetic and cheaper fibres, but the ones I return to each winter (unless the bastard moths get to them) are the higher-quality pieces I’ve invested in. They’re more classic in style and colour, and they’re 100% wool.

I’m not anti synthetic fibres — they have their place. I’ve just bought this set from H&M: it’s cosy and soft, as well as easily washable and well priced. Great for my current situation with a couple of newborns..

The failsafe choices for incredible, high quality knitwear would be &Daughter, Susie Kondi, Navygrey, which require a larger investment. I often battle between wanting the best quality, but needing something easy to wash and that is not going to be taken down by moths. A happy medium is what’s more available on the high street, but I aspire to one day own the Ada crewneck cardigan.

1. BIG fan of this Hush knit, it has all the buzzwords: chunky, cashmere, crewneck, relaxed fit. The thickness of the neckline makes it look so chic and with 100% cashmere, Hush is my favourite option that bridges the gap between the high price point contenders and the high street. Cost: £260

2. Similar option here from COS with similar terms - still chunky, 100% cashmere and crew neck. The slightly balloon-shaped sleeves makes this feel slightly cooler/more trend-led than the Hush jumper. Cost: £229

3. This V-neck from Autograph at M&S is SO nice. In classic navy and worn with either a crewneck white t-shirt (if a bit cliche) or, as the model wears, just by itself. The high neck is super flattering and the oversized style keeps it fresh, because v-necks can feel outdated quickly. Cost: £80

4. If you love the Hush and COS knits above but not sold on the investment, then this one from & Other Stories, is for you. It’s a wool/cotton blend, oversized and with drop shoulders for a relaxed look. I really like how they’ve styled with a white roll-neck too. Cost: £77

5. Don’t sleep on the men’s section as they usually have better knitwear options. This heavy knit wool jumper from Arket is delightful and 100% wool.

And finally, some things I’ve liked recently to wear with the beloved knitwear.

1. Genius design by influencer Hollie’s brand Cloimh - a lovely beanie but with the added flaps like a ski hat, for those that a bonnet is a step too far. It’s so cool and also keeps my wee ears warm.

2. They’re not new, but these straight jeans by Uniqlo x JW Anderson are a great fit, with 3x different washes.

3. I love Lie Studio, founded by twin models Cecilie and Amalie Moosgaard Nielson. Beaded necklaces look great when just seen through the crew-neck.

4. Also not reinventing the wheel here, but there’s a reason the Ray-Ban Wayfarers have a cult following. These in tortoiseshell are slightly softer than the classic black.

5. These are new in, and I love the sharper angle than regular ballet pumps. From M&S and £36 but look much more expensive. Run!

We’ve nearly made it through January!

There’s one thing I kept saying throughout: I slowly lost my sense of style. I felt so bloody fortunate to be pregnant, but the anxiety of producing healthy babies, as well as an ever changing body, really does do a number on you. While we’re on the subject - maternity clothes. I found the options were massively limited, high-street and affordable options even more so. Those that do offer Mama ranges — see H&M and M&S — don’t even have them in store; you can only buy online, which enraged me. How am I meant to know my new size?!

I was never high maintenance with my hair, make-up or outfits anyway so this isn’t reinventing the wheel. My 3 words won’t be changing (Allison Bornstein’s style method, who suggests choosing a practical, emotional and aspirational word to define your style). My words are undone, styled, effortless.

The following shares are for anyone looking for slow starts in the coldest months of the year, for whatever reason.

1. All-weather rubber boots - these Tretorn boots from Toast are a steal at £100. Reviews on these say they’re comfy, perfect for long dog walks and bridge the gap between Blundstone boots, that aren’t 100% waterproof and clunky wellies, that don’t offer any foot support.

2. I’ve bought these 2-pack of henley jumpers from Next and excited for them to arrive. At £30, I hope the quality is good as they’re exactly what I want to be wearing.

3. A great oversized long sleeve top! It’s soft, cosy and looks good with both sweats and jeans. This one is Topshop via ASOS.

4. I’m on my second pair of these Yoko Wool slippers, they keep my feet toasty all winter long and don’t fall off easily.

5. Loungewear is naturally a big part of my wardrobe this winter, and I love these barrel-leg joggers from M&S to feel a bit put together.

6. gave me this Ember mug for Christmas, and I’m a convert. Hot tea, all the time.

7. I recently got the Max shirt from Sezane in this tartan. It’s so cosy, and it has poppers!

8. Yes the Barbour Maude jacket is not cheap, but waterproof jackets (not shower proof) should be invested in.

9. How nice is this jumper?! From H&M and only £37.99. The pop of red in an outfit is not going anywhere either.

10. When I remember to do a beauty routine, this will always feature. It’s the best product I’ve ever tried at keeping my face hydrated in the cold season.

So in some ways, it is New Year, new me, but not because of any resolutions - I’m a new mum in a new year. I’m looking forward to discovering a new sense of self in this changed body, and to having Substack as my outlet and a reason to look for exciting things during maternity leave — whether that’s products, recipes, wellness routines, etc. I might not be able to try it all myself, but I can enjoy spending the time researching and spreading the joy for others to discover.

1. Poppy Almond’s outfit with the white jorts gave me fresh ideas on how to wear a pair I had just bought from Topshop. The knitted cardigan with the socks and loafers: just the right side of preppy.

2. I got served this brand recently on Instagram and instantly sent to my best friend. Agua De Madre is a UK based and female-led company, that sells products that are seemingly good for the gut. But what made me share immediately was their jars of lemon and ginger, which is exactly what I want to reach for when I have a cold/feeling under the weather. I haven’t tried yet but as soon as the weather turns, I’ll be ordering in advance of the Autumn sniffles.

3. Possibly one of my favourite shops in the world, I have been known to visit Winchester solely to visit The Hambledon. Whoever is in charge of their buying should get more credit - the homewares are incredible, I find new exciting brands each time I visit. Plus the men’s and women’s edits ensure everyone is occupied for a good while. The actual shop is a delight too. A must visit.

4. I’m heading to Amsterdam this weekend and I found this men’s brand Bram’s Fruit has a store there. The caps that say “f*ck off I’m gardening” instantly appealed but I really like this shirt.

5. I’m not sure why this hasn’t occurred to me before, but flat-packing meals is genius (I realise I may be very late to the game). Expectant mother shared this recent delivery from The Food Doula , which describes itself as edible support. Whether you know someone with a new family or just need some edible support for yourself - this feels incredible wholesome.

6. , from Harper and Harley - one of the original blogs I used to read way back when, is the founder of The Undone Store from Australia. She’s know for elevated wardrobe essentials and this image describes this perfectly. I love the fit and fabric of this oversized knitted polo - it could be boring, but it’s just not.

7. Loved this whole outfit and styling from Margaret Howell. No notes.

8. Saw these Spring Court shoes on Michaëla’s instagram and I kind of loved them. I can still smell the plimsolls that I had to wear for gym in school and I feel like these would take me straight back to simpler times.
