rest started to feel like stealing… which is so wild when you really sit with it. today, unlearn that shit! you are not a machine that justifies it’s existence by output… you are a person and rest is not a reward… it’s a right!

For so long, she fought to leave, and there was something about the forcing that made her feet feel as if her legs were stuck in quicksand… and I think it might have been the hours planning the exit that made her overthink herself back into oblivion.

She’d spent days calculating what she’d lose in the aftermath, days constructing a blueprint that pointed her to an exit, and found out that there were several, but the fatigue behind making a choice stopped her in her tracks as she’d put off this journey for another day.

And that’s the thing about searching for a next time: the next day turns into weeks, and the weeks become months, and before you know it, you’ve remained in a place for years that could never fully hold you, and maybe that’s where you are as you read these words…

Maybe you’ve gone too long in a place where everything kept coming up too short. Maybe you’ve spent way too much time in a place with someone who rarely made time to see you for who you are and all that you are willing to become in an effort to make love grow.

Maybe you’re here because you’re looking for something to remind you, to help push you, or even guide you, even though your fucking heart knows the way. And while I am grateful your eyes have arrived here, I hate that it had to be you. I hate that we are meeting here because of this circumstance, but I take great pride that you took a moment to let me reach you the only way I know how….

I’m proud of you… that desire to move forward is a blessing; it’s a gift really. It’s the beginning of your new life; it’s the beginning of a new chapter… hell… it’s the beginning of an entirely new book. At this point, you only have one more thing to do… choose yourself in a way that makes your legs move in the direction of a life that aligns with everything you are seeking, everything that you know you deserve! Choose yourself in a way that helps you breathe freely, in a way that helps you cultivate a level of peace you’ve never known before, and while that may be unfamiliar, your heart and your mind have been identifying with someone you’ve never had because you are genuinely deserving of an experience that has often escaped you.

You can do it alone; you’re fully capable of that… you are fully equipped to do hard things, but I do want to offer you some level of support in the form of this…

#3 Sunday Solution: When You Outgrow the People Who Liked the Old You

You know what… and hell, maybe you know this already but some people didn’t leave. You just stopped shrinking, and they got quiet.

They loved you when you overexplained. When you apologized for taking up space. When you said yes before you finished thinking. That version was easy to be around. That version never asked them for anything.

Now you have boundaries and they call it change like it’s an insult.

Here’s the part that hurts… not everyone who liked you actually liked you. Some of them liked what you did for them. Some liked being the one you needed. And when you stopped needing that, there was nothing underneath.

The lie is… if I’ve really grown, why do I feel guilty?

Because you were trained to measure yourself by how comfortable you make other people. Growing past that is going to feel like betrayal before it feels like freedom.

i know exactly how you prefer to take your mornings, full of truth and insight, something that speaks to your heart and stimulates your mind. your life is like this journey, a story, sometimes a myth or at least it may seem that way because your lore is deeply rooted in acts of survival, the ways from which you move closer to each day without a bridge, one would think that you learned to fly the distance it takes to get from one night to the next morning and you arrive here with a head full of thoughts and a heart prepared to love but no place to share those affections and i want to tell you that you should give it back to yourself, i want to run up to you wherever you are reading this and whisper in your ear… you are more than enough but this morning, right now, whenever and wherever you are as you read my words… while the plot is always one of self love, i also want to remind you that you are worthy of love that comes from an external source. you are worthy of being held by hands that aren’t your own, worthy of being considered by someone else’s thoughts, and while you shouldn’t necessarily be so focused on searching for yourself in the eyes of the outside world, you still deserve to be admired, loved, devoted to, and cherished.

i think it’s so important to develop the ways from which you speak to yourself, i think it’s so important to define who you are and to look into a mirror and say everything toward yourself that you have always wanted to hear from someones mouth and even as you master that, even while that has become the focus, i still want you to remember that you are deserving of an experience of love that is poured into you from someone elses heart..

i hope you’re taking care of yourself, i hope that as you read this, you feel seen and heard….

and if you are in need of something more, i’m ready and willing to provide that for you, i am willing to pick up my pen and write toward you in a way that lets you know that YOU are not alone..

you can do it all on your own but that doesn’t mean that you are not worthy of companionship filled with love and life, somewhere that feels safe with someone who genuinely loves you.

no one tells you how quiet it is at the start.

you write something true, something that cost you, and you put it out into the world, and nothing happens. no likes. no replies. no proof that a single person read it. and you sit there wondering if you are talented enough, or if you are just talking to yourself.

i know that silence. i lived in it for years.

when i started, i had no audience and no permission. i posted my writing a hundred times before i got a single like. one hundred. most people quit at three. i kept going because i believed something i had no evidence for: that if i could reach one person, that one person could lead me to a second, and the second to a third….

that belief was the whole strategy. everyone told me i was wasting my time, giving my words away for free to a room that wasn’t listening. but i understood something they didn’t. every time you share, your reach grows. your arms get longer the more you show up. i just kept reaching until i touched enough people that being ignored stopped being possible.

i wasn’t discovered. i made myself impossible to ignore.

here is what i wish someone had told me back then, in that quiet:

being read is not a talent. it is a practice. you don’t get found. you get so clear, so consistent, so unwilling to disappear, that people can’t look away. the writers who make it are not the most gifted ones. they are the ones who showed up when everyone else went home.

the quiet this morning isn’t empty, it’s trying to tell you something… and you’ve gotten so used to noise, other people’s opinions, the buzz of who needs what from you, that silence started to feel like something was wrong… it isn’t… the quiet is where you get to hear your own voice again, please don’t rush to fill it, let it say what it came to say!

a question to ask yourself today…. what have you been too loud or too busy to admit to yourself?

say this… my own voice is worth listening to, and i will not drown it out today…

there’s something the quiet keeps circling back to, the thing you already know but haven’t said out loud yet, it’s below… go deeper when you’re ready…

5 questions to ask a man on the first date

most first dates are an audition where both people are trying to pass. that’s the fucking problem, you learn how good he is at seeming, not who he actually is…his true nature and by the time the difference shows up, you’ve given him months you can’t get back.

these five questions cut through the noise, they’re not clever and they’re not cute. each one is built to surface the two things that no man can fake their way through for long, emotional intelligence and character and each one has a version of an answer that should end the night right there… politely, warmly and finally… of course.

because a first date isn’t a place to be hopeful, it’s a place to pay attention!

okay.. lets begin with the first…

1. tell me about a falling out with someone you were close to. what happened?

you’re not listening to the story. you’re listening to how he holds his own part in it.

2. when was the last time someone gave you feedback that stung, and what did you do with it?

this one tests whether he can take input without collapsing or getting even.

3. what’s something you’ve changed your mind about, and what changed it?

rigidity is the tell. you want to hear a before, a moment, and an after.

4. how do you act when you’re stressed and no one’s watching?

emotional intelligence is mostly self-awareness. this asks for it directly.

5. what do you do when someone you care about is going through something you can’t fix?

this is the empathy test, and it’s the one men perform hardest to pass.

okay… got it? these questions are the easy part and anyone can ask them… the reason women stay too long isn’t that they didn’t ask… it’s that they didn’t know what they were hearing, a good answer and a disqualifying one can sound so damn similar on that first date. the difference is in the details and the details… are below…

next, we look into the answers for each of the five questions and categorize them as the following…

the green flag, what a genuinely healthy answer actually sounds like, not the version he thinks you want…

the one and done, the specific reply that means you finish your drink, thank him and never text back… including the ones dressed up to sound like growth…

why it costs you later, what each fraudulent answer turns into.. two years in, so you can feel the price now instead of paying it later…

today, please set it all down, the day in front of you doesn’t know who doubted you, it doesn’t know who left, who made you feel like less.. it only knows you’re still here. let that be the first thing you’re proud of….

today’s question is this…

what are you still carrying that was never yours to hold?

and I need you to say this out loud….

i am allowed to begin again, every single morning…

a note from me, once a week: i write these every morning because i needed them once. the free mornings are yours, always. the paid ones are how i keep doing this, and how we go deeper together. if these mornings have meant something, come sit closer.

…there’s a question underneath that first one, the one about who taught you that setting it down meant you didn’t care enough. that’s the one that changes things. it’s below.

#2 Sunday Solution: The Person You Keep Almost Letting Go Of

You know what… there’s a kind of holding on that doesn’t look like holding on! You’ve deleted the messages, and you’ve told everyone you were done, and even you believed that shit. Then… out of nowhere, a song begins to play or the day goes wrong, and your thumb is already moving toward their name.

You’re not back together, but you haven’t let go either; you’ve just gotten better at holding on quietly…

Here’s what nobody actually tells you… Letting go is not one fucking decision… pardon my language… It’s Sunday… let me relax, but you think you make the choice once and it’s finished.. but you close that door Monday, then again Thursday, then again at 2 am when the missing gets extremely loud!

That’s not failure; that’s what releasing someone actually looks like… the lie is.. if I’d really ley go, they wouldnt cross my mind anymore but missing someone is not the same as needing them back. You can grieve a person and still know they were wrong for you…

damn… i feel you… i can sense the weariness in your eyes as you arrive to these words.. and i want you to know that you are not alone in this moment… of course, i’m here with you… writing to you but i need you to know this as well.. some women don't leave themselves all at once. they do it quietly, one compromise at a time, until one day they look up and can't remember what they actually wanted….

and i feel like that explains you.. this explains the way you may have been feeling and so, lets dig a little deeper… again, i’m here with you.. take your time…

look… here are five signs it happened to you… maybe this will open your eyes a bit…

1. you say “i’m fine” faster than you feel anything.

it became a reflex. someone… asks how you are and the answer is out before you’ve even checked. not because you’re okay, but because telling the truth would take too long and you learned no one was really waiting for it.

2. you feel guilty resting.

you have to earn stillness. you can’t sit down until everyone else is taken care of, and even then a part of you is scanning for the next thing to fix. rest feels like something you’ll be punished for.

you meant to set a boundary. you rehearsed it, even….and then the moment came and you folded, because keeping the peace always felt safer than keeping your word to yourself.

5. you’d recognize everyone in your life by heart, but you’d struggle to describe who you are anymore.

you know their favorite things, their triggers, their needs…. and somewhere in becoming an expert on everyone else, you became a stranger to yourself.

if you read these and felt seen, this is not a life sentence…. it’s a damn starting point.

the woman you left behind is still in there and coming back to her is not selfish.

I've been thinking about you lately…. even more so than before and I’m grateful that you are taking time out of your life to meet me here in this moment to take in whatever it is that I’ve been needing to say to you…

You’ve had a rough go, the years have not always been kind and there are days when you think giving up is best and yet, you’re still here.. still in this moment with me, searching for something that will bridge you toward your destination and while I hope my words are often the thing that helps you pave the way… I do want you to remeber that sometimes the destination isn’t external, sometimes the place where you are needed or the place from which you wish to go is not outside of yourself…

I’d like the opportunity to continue to hold your hand through whatever you may be facing… I want the chance to stand beside you, not to necessarily take hold of your healing and your meditation inward but I do want to provide a place of solace and understanding, a place where you can go to pick up the tools and be reminded that you are capable of becoming everything you’ve needed and then some…

Maybe this is enough, maybe the words here sparked something within your heart but maybe you need more, maybe you’re after something that stays with you, each day, helping you understand what has been hidden underneath the hurt and confusion…

and so here’s why he comes back… pay attention to what speaks to you the most and maybe share this with someone you care about..

your peace reads as a challenge. when you needed him, you were a sure thing. now you’re not. and nothing pulls a certain kind of man like a door that used to be open and suddenly isn’t.
he lost the power, and he wants it back. he never wanted you, exactly. he wanted the reach. the ability to move you. your healing took the remote out of his hand, and he’s coming back to see if the batteries still work.
your indifference stings worse than your anger ever did. anger meant he still mattered. peace means he doesn’t. he’d rather you hate him than feel nothing, because nothing is the one response he can’t manipulate.
he assumed you’d wait. they always do. the return isn’t romance, it’s him checking that the thing he left on a shelf is still where he put it.
someone new made him remember what you gave. he didn’t miss you until the next one didn’t do it the way you did. you were the standard he only recognized after he left it.
healing made you magnetic, and he confuses that with owing him. the calm, the glow, the self-respect, he sees it and assumes he gets to enjoy the version of you that his absence built.
he needs to know he still could. not that he will. that he could. coming back is the ego confirming the option is still on the table. that’s all the text is: an audit.
your silence rewrote the story in his head. while he had access, he was bored. the second you were unreachable, he started remembering you as the one that got away, a story that only exists because you stopped auditioning for it.
he mistook your stability for an invitation. a woman who needs nothing looks, to a man like this, safe to approach again. no demands, no mess. he reads your wholeness as low-maintenance and comes back to feed on it.
he never actually left, he just went dormant. men like this don’t end things. they pause them. he was always going to resurface the moment resurfacing cost him nothing. your healing just made it feel safe to try.

so when the text comes, and it will, remember what it actually is.

it’s not proof you were wrong to leave. it’s proof you were right. he didn’t come back because he changed. he came back because you did.

the woman he’s reaching for isn’t available to him anymore. that’s not a loss. that’s the whole point.

don’t answer the door just to show him it’s locked. he already knows. that’s why he knocked.

he apologizes fast, before you’ve even finished explaining all the reasons why it hurt, the apology is always the escape, never the repair…

he tells you he’s changed but never shows you, he needs you to believe it more than he needs to live within the action of it…

he’s different for a week then its back to the bullshit, and the old ways come back wearing better words…

he changes what he says… he never changes what he does…and when you brint it up again, somehow you’re the one who won’t let the past go..

that’s always the tell…that’s always what you should be focused on…

a man who’s actually changed.. doesn’t need you to keep forgiving the same thing because the thing stops happening…

this is so vital… so damn important!

if you’re still forgiving it, he hasn’t changed…

you just got better at accepting it…

okay… early start to the morning, coffee in hand, warm against my palms while i listen to some oldies on my Tivoli model 3 BT, i’m tunning the dial as we speak…i feel that music has been a beautiful companion whenever i’m in this mode of writing here via substack…

this morning i’d like to get back into a topic that i’ve spent the last six or so years studying and pulling information that would otherwise be vital and important to anyone out here attempting to build genuine relationships with another person..

time is of the essence but so much of your energy has been given to potential, people and places that never intended to match your energy and effort…

the first month of anything is so fucking important! the first month is not the honeymoon, the first month is often an audition and most of us are so busy being chosen that we forget we’re allowed to choose too and i believe a lot of women fall into this position or place intentionally, the way their counterpart in this dance wants to maintain the power and control as to dictate the result…

a narcissist doesn’t show you who they are… they show you who you want. that’s the whole trick…. so you can’t wait for a confession.. you have to watch the damn pattern.

these questions aren’t for him… they’re for you. read them slow, notice which ones you flinch at the most, keep note of that.. i mean it.

the first ten aren’t the obvious ones, hell… you may not have even thought of any of these on this entire list… the obvious red flags, he already knows how to hide but these are the ones he can’t perform his way through..

when something good happens to you, what does his face do in the first second, before he arranges it?
does he remember the small things you love, or only the ones that made him look good to give?
when you’re sick, does he take care of you, or does he need the crisis to somehow become about him?
have you ever watched him be kind to someone who could do nothing for him?
does he ask follow-up questions, or does every story you tell become a doorway back to him?
when you win at something, does he feel like your teammate or your competition?
how does he treat the waiter, the driver, the person he’ll never see again?
does he apologize before you’ve had to get upset, or only once the mood has already cost him something?
when you talk about a dream that doesn’t include him, does he get curious or does he get quiet?
has he ever said “that’s a boundary, i’ll respect it,” without you having to fight for it first?

those ten aren’t the obvious ones on purpose. the red flags everyone warns you about, he learned to hide years ago. these are the ones with no audience payoff. the ones he can’t act his way through.

there are ninety more. but the first ten are about him. the next ninety are about you. what you’re already feeling and calling nothing, what your body knew before your mind agreed to it. that’s the part that changes what you actually do next.
