Because same.

I have realized that the only way to truly fight the rising costs of groceries is to preplan our meals and buy as many ‘like ingredients’ as possible (meaning I buy ingredients I can use and stretch for multiple meals).

Here are my plans for what we’ll be eating this Labor Day Weekend made possible by a grocery trip that totaled $100:

We met about 3 years earlier, when I was pregnant with my youngest daughter. She lived about 7 minutes away from us and was known as ‘the lady who watches the babies’ in our area. The plan, back then, was that she would watch her while I saw clients at a private practice in the city. When my coworker and friend (Jen) died of a sudden heart attack - all of ‘the plans’ crisped away underneath my feet like scorched earth.

In fact, Conor and I were deciding what our next ‘big project’ would be for the house we purchased just four years earlier. It was our ‘dream' home’ - on the street in the neighborhood in walking distance of that school. We outbid twelve other families in order to secure it. I still can’t believe it was ever ours.
