Since you last heard from me, I dyed a whole load of whites red ruining all my Buck Mason tank tops (naturally the style has been discontinued), wrote something for Abena on Wing Bar, wrote something for In Their Cart proselytizing Oddobody underwear (the best), toured five apartments to no avail (I need a 2-bed/2-bath by 10/1…..), spent a weekend in Virginia assembling my sister’s baby shower, celebrated Evy’s birthday with tilefish (she paints an amazing dog portrait, js), and went for the first time to Montague Diner. Cute.

I worked on a piece with this week for AD: Good Taste Is Getting Weirder. Otherwise Jalil hard-launched the cummerbund, Figma launched a series called Source Material starring ’s former EIC, Cultured announced “fashion’s muse” as the old woman who’s never aged, wrote a great piece for Vogue Business about whether brands should have anything to do with culture patronage, and T Magazine asks you to dress like your living room. Where’s their Substack.

  • Bloom Farm: I fear the Substack crowd is sick of hearing about this place. The efforts of an exceptional PR team and a staff that Knows Their Scene means 25% of the people you follow on Substack visiting this damn farm, so I’ll make this brief: An ex-Google guy bought 60 acres of land in rural Pennsylvania, where he’s lovingly reinvigorating a farm from the 1770s. This looks like farm-to-table meals cooked in a Squirrel Tail oven operating since the 18th-century, ceramic classes in the barn, a yoga studio, cold plunges—and as such—software company retreats, and a very rigorous writer’s retreat and influencer stay program. Behind all this: a dedicated attempt to planting a yielding chestnut farm. As for the stay itself, you basically want for nothing. There’s plums on every table, a fire in the evenings, a garden drooping with tomato plants, and 10,000 crickets that sing day and night. I had the best meals of my entire life here from a chef Chris who is sort of untraceable but lives somewhere in Philly with his wife and kids.

  • Spencer’s Spa (the one in Williamsburg): It came to my attention that people beefed with the curtain partitions in Spencer’s original SoHo location through a co-worker at AD. It never occurred to me to mind, but that’s probably because I was only ever there on a brand’s dime. Anyway, they took such critiques into account at their new Williamsburg location, with true drywall partitions. I showed up to sopping wet and they couldn’t have cared less, offering me hot tea and a towelette, my place on their WSA-coded suede and chrome chairs. I was there for what I thought was a lymphatic massage and was instead one hour of glues, lotions, and cold, metal tools. I showed up with three really scary chin pimples and left with three subdued red bumps and an otherwise glowing complexion. I couldn’t tell you what happened in there outside the Alien soundscape, but I will tell you I left looking skin-rich enough to be walking around in Williamsburg, which is rarely the case for me.

  • St. George’s Pizza—Warren, Maine: runs Bingo Night at this place in Warren, and it was through her Instagram stories (and thoughtful AD article on the space) that I came to know this place. It’s perched over the George River, slinging delicious, steaming hot Sicilian pizzas underneath a bookstore aptly named Upstairs Books. We got the Spicy Pepperoni with pickled jalapenos; everyone else got the Pistachio Pesto. I drank wine from a completely unremarkable bodega glass and listened to crickets at dusk. I sent pictures of it to everyone remarking on its perfect interiors: mismatched wooden chairs and tables, candles melting all over the table, small red-and-white check curtains on the windows, a quiet Main Street outside. I would get married here.

I can’t remember how I found Iman. It was so long ago when I asked her to do this, November 2025, which is the sort of glacial execution that I’ve learned to embrace in myself. Iman’s a writer with a particular interest in the intersection of identity, sexuality, and adolescence—three topics that should put fear into the heart of man, but not Iman. To me, she’s like the cool girl from summer camp that was your age but felt worlds more knowledgeable—now all grown up.

Iman’s forthcoming novel, ONCE IN A TIMELINE, hits shelves on Oct 13 and is available for preorder. It’s about an influencer forced to relive her perfect “day in the life” vlog repeatedly. First: this is ephemera. I’ve been thinking for a long time about the best way to profile saloon’s members in a way that doesn’t feel pandering or dull, and as such I’ve been thinking: What is the best way to explore a person in time you didn’t spend with them? I found my answer in trash, basically, or in editorial speak, the detritus of time spent in the real world: receipts, tickets, notes, stickers—the garbage we keep in our coat pockets, the bottom of our bags, the junk drawer of our desks. It’s a nice way to understand a person—seeing what they hold onto consciously or unconsciously, what they rediscovered and what it made them remember. Yuria was an obvious first choice because she is my crush.

I met Yuria in the back room of Colbo during a Rite of Way scent launch. Our friend Tara introduced us, and soon after I invited Yuria to an event saloon hosted with With Nothing Underneath, where she made friends with everyone in the room. Yuria has a deep voice, perfect skin, an accomplished sense of self, a total understanding of creativity, and she dresses like Kim Possible. She co-founded Of Enso with Joel Harding, and since I’ve known about it, I’ve been telling everyone: These people will be famous. In less than two years, they’ve landed mentions in Dezeen, Arch Digest (collusion), Wallpaper, Sight Unseen, and many, many more. She was born and raised in New York.

Highlighting a few that deserve a bit of explanation below, but the other ones include: a note my boyfriend wrote on the back of his dry-cleaning receipt, crumpled at the bottom of my purse; the Shinkansen ticket from Nagoya to Tokyo that was delayed over an hour due to a significant earthquake; Noen Oil my friend and founder Natalie gave me at Montague Diner in December; my favorite pony cuff when the hair is bad but needs a fun touch; a ticket from the Nezu Museum in Tokyo; a coaster from a random bar we stumbled into while wandering small alleyways; my and my luggage tag from Haneda Airport.

I.

Omamori from Ise Shrine to “protect me from bad spirits.” A shrine near and dear to my family, and an important pilgrimage for many Japanese, Ise is one of the most meditative places on earth. You walk through an almost enchanted forest, breathing in crisp air, surrounded by trees older than you can comprehend (trunks so wide it takes three people to wrap their arms around). They are sold at Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples all over Japan and are typically carried on your person, attached to bags, phones, cars, or kept at home. (Trust I bought them for many people back home).

II.

Without a handkerchief (a standard accessory in Japan), I hoarded the napkins handed to me at cafes and restaurants, including from Dean & Deluca—a brand that holds deep nostalgia for most New Yorkers who remember the era of the gourmet market.

III.

Purikura photos — a rite of passage in Japan, the ultimate Photo Booth experience at any Game Center/arcade. They yassify you into oblivion with stylized photos, digital decor, and makeup, not to mention their obsession with Western culture and magnifying your eye size.

IV.

Tax Free receipt for my new Global Kitchen Knife — been dying to get a Japanese made knife for daily kitchen use. They just do it 10x better over there, and the craftsmanship is impeccable (wrote about it on my substack btw if that interests anyone). Excited to slice my vegetables like a sushi chef. I also brought back a more elite carbon knife as well for finer slicing.

Because I have hyperactive mental illness, I’ve decided to take the long weekend to do things like: build bookshelves, build a brand deck, clean up the rolodex, kill roaches, properly cook for myself (this is breakfast), try and write something on my own Substack, , and two others I promised to write for months ago. It’s a resoundingly fitting way to celebrate the 250th anniversary of a searingly capitalist country: to slave away on the procrastinated tasks of your personal life bc your work-life balance is so bad…

It makes some veryyyy excellent points, and I think it’s an important reminder that the only way “community” works is through reciprocity. One of the hardest things to swallow about saloon is when I meet people or receive emails/texts/DMs from those who are clearly here to hit it and quit it. Totally standard for something network-y, but I try very seriously to encourage reciprocity inside our community.

Which is all to say: if you find yourself up in the chat or the howdy email making lots of asks (which is fine and I do love!!!), try to remember to offer things up as well! It doesn’t need to be jobs; it can be event invites, some piece of industry knowledge, mentorship, an offer to get coffee/drink with someone else in the community, etc. It makes it so much more fun and feel-good and also it just simply: works way better as an entity.

All that to say, really: the most frequent comment I get as people are walking out the door from our events is how friendly and non-network-y it feels (I always think of it like when you’re in the kitchen of a house party shooting the shit with the other kitchen people). I think that’s because saloon has garnered a really genuine basis. I think wonderful and giving people show up to our events. Anyway, we’re doing something right, I get to see it every day!! <3

  • I’m new to The Gentlewoman (how? idk) and I’m addicted. This piece by had me crying at the bar at Freeman’s right before picked me up. If you’re feeling: old, competitive, like you’re underperforming, like other people are figuring it out and you’re falling behind, you need to pick up this issue and read. I’ve just subscribed to her newsletter (off Substack, praise be), which I’m confident will be full of the same humor and wisdom.

  • Olivia and I then went from tearful Freeman’s bar episode to the Oberon for dinner—the New Museum’s cafe, which opens July 7. It was good, unalarming: great champagne on arrival, chicken, steak, little gem salad, cold martinis. Annie Armstrong (I shouted her article out in last week’s newsletter) was there—Olivia told me after the fact…wtf, among other starlets: my co-worker Maya, for example, and Cynthia Rowley. The Oberon Group (that is: ) knows its way around town.

  • I also saw Busted Ceramics IRL this week at Spring Bar in Chinatown. Cute play on those frog plates I used to eat from at other people’s houses (my parents weren’t like that. Ingredients household—there was no way we were going to have disposable novelty plates).

  • Oh my god it’s happening: Diotima archive sale.

  • You can expect something on paper sconces from me in the near future. This panel lamp by Serbian designer Ana Kraš of Teget is made from silk, paper, and aluminum, currently showing at Emma Scully Gallery. Very seriously embarrasses the pleated shade sconces we all bought last year.

  • This week I want you to meet me at the Tangerine sidewalk sale and apply for a job at Cafe Mado. Or work for Isetta. Or for who needs a graphic designer for something that is inevitably going to be fun and perfectly produced. I’m in Virginia visiting my sister so I had to miss the Sour Cherries pop-up but instead had barbecue two days in a row at the Crozet Art Festival and somewhere in Nellysford called Blue Ridge Pig.

  • Had a bit of a crash out about saloon on main this week (in a good way…) about the pressure of “scaling” your work and the linear path to success. One Uber to the airport and I was able to set it (mostly) aside. I’m very happy to be here—I hope to see many iterations of saloon out of saloon itself and some will be better branded, monetized, and packaged. Let it rip. Just don’t forget where u came from when I need a place to live September 1st

  • Last Thursday, we took a saloon stroll through Dumbo’s Design District Friend in Store, which is an app Ivy Ackerman created that details what’s happening in-store across NYC. An after-hours walking tour through three stores—Iki Kimono, Hudson Wilder and Vinyl + Thread, each with wildly different vibes—meeting the teams, talking shop, enjoying troves of apps from Dumbo favs Usagi, Kinjo, Almondine Bakery and The Rounds with bevs from Chandon and Aplós. If you couldn’t make it, you can recreate it yourself, as well as find the dozens of other recommended store strolls on the app’s map.   • Hit Lara Koleji this weekend for the first time and it was way less scary than y’all were saying….no one acknowledged me but no one sneered at me either. That’s an improvement upon like 90% of stores on Orchard

  • I am recommending this 100% as the stuff of a full hair makeover. I really can’t believe what it’s doing for me, esp over time. Wavy, soft, dare I say meow

  • Skincare brand Sonsei (I love their lip balm), ’s No Particular Order and Craft Society are teaming up May 14 for a cross-stitching event. I want to be there, but NY Design Week has other plans for me. Also I love Craft Society someone put me in touch I gotta know them

  • I want to buy Abby Muir’s clothes this weekend at Tangerine’s sidewalk sale. I know Abby because she came to a saloon event once and I realized she looked familiar because she models for Rego (my party scarf ikyk the one) and Ancien.

  • Brian Kershisnik’s work is so funny…this one is called “Stop that” and this one “Would you just walk”

Ow ow I know it’s Tuesday morning sorry my brother’s fiancé had a Long Island bridal shower this weekend and I went to see Mietze Conte and then hit Mansions for the first time (no like so awesome…..) and shot an engagement with my friend Isabel and had Malaysian food and then went to Hartley’s and then watched a French movie that’s still bothering me (Sans Soleil). But I’m here!!! Tuesday in the bright and blessed 73º morning.

This week my internet crush Gatherings by Emily is hiring a summer intern, my fave Williamsburg store Kalimera needs a weekend warrior, The Baffler is hiring editors, and you’ll never believe: more people need a photographer!

In saloon news, we had the cutest event this past week walking around Dumbo stores. Got to meaningfully speak to a bunch of salooners that have been there since the early days (here meaning 2024). We had duck breast and shishito from Kinjo that rocked my world, shopped kimonos, shopped records. But pics aren’t back yet so I’ll shut up til we have those in.

  • Saw Mark Ronson for Stella McCartney’s H&M collection this past week. Apps were vegetarian, special cocktail was strawberry negroni. All the waiters were criminally hot. Hannah turned to me and asked “Why is Mark Ronson playing a Bat Mitzvah playlist?”

  • Diptyque had an event the same night for their new Rhubarbe candle (it’s amazing, obviously). The “event activation” was a DJ playing a set and an electric guitar while a woman in a white gown danced and writhed on the floor. Crystal goblets full of white wine were being passed around the whole time. You can count on Diptyque to know their brand.

  • Also had a brunch with the founder of Figlia at Sant Ambroeus. New flavor is Sole Frizzante and I’m a fan or I wouldn’t write about it at all. I wouldn’t mind a non-alc summer. I’m getting old.

  • Shopbop color-coded their sale section…plus they’ve got Augustinus Bader on sale, this amazing dress from Faithfull, Bottega sunnies for $390, some respectful sandals for $83, etc.

  • Gave my two cents on ballet flats for The Strategist. It’s always these, you know it’s always these.

  • Loved this from BoF on retailers that succeeded by spurning the Internet. Outline makes the list.

  • Can I interest anyone in a weekend of barn discoing? End of July in Esperance, NY. Feels like a great way to meet your first husband.

  • Saris repurposed as fences stopped me in my scrolling this week.

  • Research for work led me to the beautiful artwork of Julia Creuheras, a Barcelona-based artist who, among many other things, is making shoes from wire. I spotted the work of Steve Louis in an AD home tour, which I can’t find anywhere online except in this single Instagram post. Louis takes garbage and makes chickens with it…a man after my own heart. Lastly, I’m new to the work of Grace Prince, who’s running an exhibition at Jacqueline Sullivan from May 1.

  • An event at Sorbara’s intro-ed me to the brand In House last weekend. Ran into and who both swear by this set.

  • NADA is returning to NY May 13-17, 2026 at the Starett-Lehigh building, located in west Chelsea’s gallery district at 601 West 26th Street. Almost every gallery you like is offering collector’s previews, email them for private showings if you’re agoraphobic!!! Otherwise SEE U THERE
