In case you are new to the market, or still haven’t gotten used to our system, I’d like to share with you a few tips for pickup day so that you make it home with all the tasty treats you bought:

• If you can’t pick up your order between 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, that’s ok, but it gives us some extra work to do! Help us out by selecting Late Pickup or Wednesday pickup at checkout so we can plan. We can make no guarantees for orders left behind without a special pickup option designated — our hard-working volunteers are very hungry!

• Not everything is packed in your bag! Please double check the checklist to see what else you need to get on your way out.

  • Frozen/refrigerated items like meat and cheese will be in coolers or in our fridge/freezer

  • Bulky items like potatoes and cabbages, melons and onions will be on the benches or outside along the sidewalk

  • Delicate items like berries and cherry tomatoes will be on tables inside the packing room

  • Your name will be on a list for each of the items not packed — if you can find a pen, please try to help us (and double check the correct item) by crossing your name off the list next to the item you are packing

• If something is missing from your order, or you received the wrong item, we want to know!! We would much rather you tell us so we can give you a refund, or provide a substitute than for you to be silent and sad, so get in touch by emailing cumberlandfm@gmail.com

We’ve begun to see a few winter squash varieties offered from different vegetable farmers and Good Nature has brought us another one to try! This delicata squash variety is called jester. It is a compact and colorful delicata variety, with notes of corn, chestnut, and brown sugar. Order one this week to add to a roasted veggie dish.

We might not be feeling it yet but the season’s whisper of change that is coming. Our bounties are full of ripe tomatoes, juicy melons, crunchy peppers and sweet grapes. The sun is still hot and days feel long but in a few short weeks we will begin to feel the changes that are taking place now and will be wishing for full bounties again. Market happenings:

Grape season at Wheelers Orchard & Vineyard is upon us! It has been a good year for grapes. Seedless table grapes like reliance, mars, alden & suffolk red are coming in now. They are perfect for fresh salads, healthy easy snacks for the kids, and can even make tasty frozen treats!

Fredonia, Van Buren, Buffalo & Ontario seeded grapes, being harvested now are great all-purpose grapes for eating fresh( crunch the seeds to get the super antioxidant resveratol), juicing, pies, jams & jellies. The seeded grapes with their heavy labruska, foxy flavors are the grapes of choice for jams, jellies & preserves.

Wheelers will be setting up at market over the next few weeks with their extensive collection of gourmet popsicles. There’s a popsicle for every pallet- a unique way to enjoy local fruit, or pair some seemingly unlikely ingredients like chocolate & wasabi.

Non dairy & gluten free options are available as well. Stop by Wheelers booth at pick- up to check out the many popsicle variations, all hand-crafted & lovingly created at Wheelers Orchard & Vineyard.

NEW PRODUCT- lemon cucumbers! This is an heirloom cucumber named for their lemon-like appearance. They don't have the bitter skin cucumbers have and make good picklers. You can find them this week from Good Nature farm

There is a casual meet & greet event with TNACI at the Roundhouse Park in Tracy City, TN on Saturday, August 8 from 10 AM - Noon CST. This is a great way to learn about their soil health programs with farmers. Here is a link to the event: Facebook Event
