Technically speaking, everything is relative and furthermore, everything is history. Imagine that in order to observe something, the light has to travel, sound has to travel, even your neurons in your brain have to travel, in both space and time. Therefore if you see someone, that means, that light that travelled from the Sun to bounce of that person into your retina took time, it took some time in your brain to process that image, so what you see is already a history. What you hear is a history. What you feel is a history. Super tiny for most parts, like below nano seconds, but history. We never live in the present. 4. Fast & Furious: Obey Physics

Fun fact, Einstein was not actually fast, maybe physically yes (which I hardly think so, in sandals it is hard to run), but mentally, he was slow. Not like you know, challenged, but he was a true deep thinker, taking time to process all the thoughts, only then starting to react. Once he was asked what he would do if he had 60 minutes to resolve a problem and he said something like: “If I had an hour to solve a problem, I’d spend 55 minutes thinking about the problem and five minutes thinking about solutions.”. If I had a 60 minutes window to resolve a problem, I would spend 60 minutes to get out of that problem. :D Anyways, do you so far enjoy my mumbling and the memes?

5. How Einstein Feels After Discovering Light Moves As Light Speed

To be absolutely correct, during Einstein’s presence on Earth, physicists already knew that there is some super insane speed of photons, but tying Einstein with Henry Cavill in a meme a must for me to share. Anyways, to correct this, essentially what Einstein observed and defined is the speed of light in vacuum is the same for all inertial observers, regardless of the motion of the source or observer. So instead of “Einstein after discovering light moves at light speed”, it is “Einstein after realizing everyone measures light at the same speed.”. Still dope. Einstein was dope. So are you, you are so dope that I feel like I do not even deserve such dupe person to read my writing. In his defense, at that time it was sort of normal. But still, what a player, you see, not only the family (his and Elsa’s) relationship was unusually close: they were related on both sides of their families, Elsa was his later on second wife. He started to goof around with her while he was still married to his first wife Mileva Marić. Mileva was a physicist, too. They got married in 1903, got divorced in 1919, but, he started dating Elsa in 1912. But, lets get back to the cousin thing. Compared to today, yes, it was normal, but still it was not ordinary. Last Thursday, we followed the life of a single red blood cell.

It was born deep inside the bone marrow, sacrificed its own nucleus to make room for hemoglobin, squeezed through capillaries narrower than itself, and spent four months carrying oxygen to every corner of the body before quietly ending its journey in the spleen. Like millions of its companions, it lived an entire lifetime without us ever noticing.

After finishing that article, I found myself thinking less about the red blood cell and more about us.

For something so essential to life, blood is surprisingly misunderstood.

That’s hardly our fault. Blood is one of the first scientific ideas we encounter as children, long before we’re ready to appreciate its complexity. We learn simple rules because simple rules are easy to remember. Blood is red. Veins are blue. Type O blood can be given to anyone. Blood carries oxygen. Those ideas stay with us for decades, quietly becoming part of how we see the human body.

The strange thing is that none of them are completely true.

They’re the scientific equivalent of looking at a city from an airplane. You can recognize the streets, the buildings, and the neighborhoods, but you can’t see the lives unfolding below. Blood works the same way. The simplified version is useful, but it hides a world that is far more intricate than most of us ever imagine.

The closer you look, the stranger blood becomes.

Your veins have been lying to you your entire life.

Take a look at the inside of your wrist.

Almost everyone sees the same thing: a network of blue veins winding beneath pale skin. They’re so obviously blue that it feels almost ridiculous to question it. Children’s books color them blue. Medical diagrams color them blue. Even the phrase “blue blood” has become part of everyday language.

So if someone asked you what color the blood inside those veins is, blue wouldn’t seem like an unreasonable answer.

Until a surgeon makes an incision.

Nobody in an operating room has ever watched blue blood flow from a vein. Venous blood is darker than the bright red blood leaving the lungs, but it is still unmistakably red.

So why does our brain insist on seeing blue?

The answer has almost nothing to do with blood itself.

Light behaves strangely as it passes through skin. Different wavelengths penetrate to different depths, scatter differently, and return to our eyes in different proportions. The veins beneath your skin absorb and reflect light in a way that makes them appear bluish, even though the blood inside them has never changed color.

It’s a beautiful reminder that seeing something isn’t always the same as understanding it.

For centuries, people assumed they were looking directly at the blood itself. In reality, they were looking at an optical illusion created by physics.

Blood hadn’t been fooling anyone.

Light had.

Then there’s the “universal donor.”

If you’ve ever donated blood, you’ve probably heard someone describe O negative as the universal donor.

It’s one of those scientific facts that seems wonderfully straightforward. There are four main blood types, one of them works for everyone, and hospitals keep it ready for emergencies.

Like many memorable facts, it’s true. And also incomplete.

Imagine an ambulance arriving after a serious accident. A patient has lost a dangerous amount of blood. There isn’t time to determine their blood type before starting a transfusion. Every minute matters.

In moments like these, O negative blood can save lives because it lacks the major markers that trigger the strongest immune reactions. It’s the safest choice when doctors have almost no information and almost no time.

But if that same patient were stable enough to wait, doctors wouldn’t simply continue using O negative.

They would test. Match. Confirm.

Because the familiar ABO system is only part of the story.

Most of us stop learning about blood groups after A, B, AB, O, and Rh factor. Scientists didn’t.

Over the past century, researchers have identified dozens of additional blood group systems, each containing proteins that can matter during repeated transfusions or for people with particularly rare blood types. Most of the time these differences never become important. Occasionally they become critically important.

Calling O negative the universal donor isn’t wrong.

It’s simply what happens when an extraordinarily complicated biological system gets compressed into a sentence simple enough to fit inside a high school classroom.

Last Monday we laughed at blood.

Red blood cells were portrayed as frantic commuters, platelets as exhausted construction workers, and AB+ blood cheerfully insisted that “blood is blood.” Like all good memes, they were funny because they exaggerated something that already contained a grain of truth.

The more I thought about those jokes, the more one question kept coming back to me.

Why do blood memes work so well?

The answer surprised me. It’s because blood almost feels alive in a way we don’t usually associate with a liquid. We instinctively imagine red blood cells having personalities because, in a sense, blood behaves less like a fluid and more like a bustling society.

That’s strange, because blood is also one of the most overlooked parts of our bodies.

Ask someone to name the body’s most important structures and they’ll probably mention the brain, the heart, or the lungs. Blood rarely makes the list. We treat it as little more than the red liquid connecting everything else.

But perhaps we’ve had it backwards all along.

The Body’s Greatest Logistics Company

Most people know blood carries oxygen.

That fact is taught so early in school that it almost feels like the entire story. But saying blood carries oxygen is a bit like saying the internet sends emails. It’s technically correct, yet it misses almost everything that makes the system remarkable.

Blood is simultaneously a transportation network, postal service, heating system, waste disposal service, emergency repair crew, food delivery network, and military defense force.

Every heartbeat sends oxygen to your brain, nutrients to your muscles, hormones to distant organs, immune cells toward potential threats, and waste products back to the kidneys and liver for disposal. It even redistributes heat, helping keep your body temperature remarkably stable despite changing conditions.

None of your organs communicate directly. Your thyroid never calls your kidneys. Your pancreas doesn’t send emails to your muscles.

Instead, they all communicate through blood.

Every second, countless microscopic messages are delivered with astonishing reliability. Blood isn’t merely flowing—it is coordinating your entire body.

A City Without a Mayor

One of the most fascinating things about blood is that nobody is in charge.

There is no dispatcher assigning platelets to injuries. No traffic controller directing red blood cells through capillaries. No central computer telling immune cells which bacteria to attack.

Yet everything somehow works.

Platelets drift quietly through the bloodstream until a blood vessel is damaged. Within seconds they recognize exposed tissue, become sticky, release chemical signals, recruit additional platelets, and begin building a clot.

White blood cells perform an equally extraordinary task. They constantly inspect cells they encounter, distinguishing friend from foe with astonishing accuracy. Some even remember viruses and bacteria they encountered years—or decades—earlier, allowing your immune system to respond far more quickly the next time those invaders appear.

Even red blood cells display remarkable engineering. Many capillaries are narrower than the cells themselves, forcing them to fold, twist, and squeeze through spaces that initially seem impossible before springing back into shape.

It resembles a city where millions of workers know exactly what to do despite never receiving instructions.

Numbers That Barely Feel Real

The scale of blood is almost impossible to visualize.

Right now, roughly 25 trillion red blood cells are circulating through your body. Every second, your bone marrow quietly manufactures around 2 million new ones to replace those reaching the end of their lives.

Each individual red blood cell survives for about 120 days, traveling roughly 250 kilometers (155 miles) during its lifetime.

Even a single drop of blood contains millions of cells.

Perhaps most astonishing of all, if every blood vessel in your body were connected end to end, they would stretch roughly 100,000 kilometers (62,000 miles)—enough to circle Earth more than twice.

Without realizing it, every one of us carries a planetary-scale transportation network inside our bodies.

The Life of a Single Red Blood Cell

Imagine being born with only one purpose.

Deep inside your bone marrow, a stem cell begins transforming into a future red blood cell. As it matures, it fills itself with hemoglobin, the iron-containing protein responsible for carrying oxygen.

Then something extraordinary happens.

Unlike almost every other cell in your body, it throws away its nucleus.

Losing its DNA means it will never divide or repair itself again. But the sacrifice creates additional room for hemoglobin, allowing it to transport more oxygen during every journey.

For the next four months, it becomes one of the hardest-working cells in your body.

Every circuit carries oxygen from the lungs to tissues throughout your body before returning for another load. It repeats this journey hundreds of thousands of times without pause.

Eventually, age catches up with it. The once-flexible cell becomes stiff, making it difficult to squeeze through tiny capillaries.

The spleen notices.

The cell is dismantled, its components recycled, and even its iron is carefully recovered to build the next generation.

Nature wastes almost nothing.

Evolution’s Clever Tricks

Red blood cells look deceptively simple, yet almost every feature has been refined through millions of years of evolution.

Their familiar disc-like shape increases surface area, allowing oxygen to move in and out efficiently while also making the cells remarkably flexible.

Discarding the nucleus creates additional space for hemoglobin, dramatically increasing oxygen-carrying capacity.

Blood itself owes its color to iron inside hemoglobin. Oxygen-rich blood appears bright red, while oxygen-poor blood becomes a darker shade—but never blue.

The blue appearance of veins is simply an optical illusion created by the way skin absorbs and scatters light.

Sometimes biology’s strangest mysteries are solved not by biology alone, but by physics.

When the Balance Breaks

Systems this sophisticated don’t require catastrophic failure to cause serious disease.

If too little hemoglobin is available, tissues receive less oxygen and anemia develops.

If clotting occurs too readily, dangerous blockages can form inside blood vessels. If clotting is insufficient, even relatively minor injuries become difficult to stop.

Leukemia transforms the very white blood cells meant to defend us into cancerous cells that crowd out healthy blood production.

And in sepsis, the immune system’s attempt to eliminate infection becomes so overwhelming that it begins damaging the body’s own organs.

These diseases remind us how delicately balanced blood really is. Every component depends on every other component functioning at precisely the right time.

The Miracle You Never Notice

Your heart beats roughly 100,000 times every day.

Here are some of the funniest blood memes -and the science that makes them surprisingly accurate.

Platelets are the body's first responders. They form a clot to stop bleeding and create the scab that protects the wound while the underlying tissue repairs itself. Picking the scab too early means undoing part of their work and slowing the healing process.

A blood test is essentially a pop quiz for your blood cells. By analyzing a small sample, doctors can count different cell types, measure proteins and nutrients, and look for signs of infection, anemia, inflammation, or many other health conditions.

Hemoglobin is the protein inside red blood cells that binds oxygen and carries it from your lungs to the rest of your body. The meme plays on misreading "hemoglobin" as "hemogoblin," imagining your bloodstream filled with tiny goblins instead of oxygen-carrying proteins.

The joke combines the classic "glass half full" expression with blood types. Instead of encouraging optimism, the O+ test tube tells the O- tube to "be more positive" - a clever play on the positive and negative Rh blood groups.

The correct answer is hemoglobin—the iron-containing protein inside red blood cells that gives blood its characteristic red color. The joke is the obviously incorrect choice “communism,” paired with a stereotypical image of Joseph Stalin, as if it were somehow the right answer.

Blood transfusions aren’t as simple as “blood is blood.” Red blood cells carry ABO and Rh markers on their surface, and receiving an incompatible blood type can trigger a dangerous immune reaction. That’s why blood type matching is so important before every transfusion.

This joke is built around a medical pun. Blood clotting is formally called coagulation - the process in which platelets and clotting proteins work together to stop bleeding. So when the two blood cells “tie the clot,” they’re congratulated with “Coagulations!” instead of “Congratulations!”

At first glance, pepperoni slices and red blood cells look surprisingly alike - they’re both round, red, and have a darker center. The meme jokingly suggests that Italians have pepperoni instead of red blood cells, playing on the stereotype of Italy’s love for cured meats and pizza.

We joke that red blood cells panic when your arm falls asleep, that platelets celebrate “coagulations,” and that AB+ just wants everybody’s blood.

But underneath the memes is one of the most sophisticated systems evolution has ever built.

Your bloodstream is home to trillions of specialized cells making millions of microscopic decisions every second - and almost none of us ever stop to think about it.

While the metric system (SI units) relies on elegant, reproducible constants of nature (like the speed of light), the US Customary system relies on history. But hey, if you ever need to calculate the kinetic energy of an adult deer sprinting down a highway, just remember: E_k = 1/2 * (800 Hamburgers) * v².

6. The Smooth Jazz Approach to Terraforming

Elon Musk wants to nuke the Martian ice caps to release carbon dioxide, but honestly, this proposal seems a lot more cost-effective and significantly more relaxing.
