After two months of little or no rain and scorching temperatures during the hottest and driest UK summer on record, it’s finally starting to rain.

“I haven’t.” Carrie’s protest was less than convincing.

“I don’t believe you! I don’t know why I tell you anything if you’re going to forget what I say all the time. All those hookups with dumb guys have turned your brain to mush.”

“That’s not fair. I’ve had a lot on my mind recently,” Carrie sulked.

“Is Pete still harassing you?” Izzy asked, her exasperation turning to sympathy.

“Yeah.”

“You need to go to HR! He won’t stop until you do.”

“I know. It’s just that it’s tiring, and I don’t know if I’m ready for the fallout yet. He’s very popular in the office. I’m worried that going to HR will hurt my career.”

“Babe, you can’t let it go on like this!”

“I know!” Carrie huffed. She knew Izzy was right. Pete would try to do something physical sooner or later, and that was scary to think about. “Anyway, I would have remembered about Zack if you had told me he was hot.”

“Of course, I am!” Carrie replied, feeling offended at the accusation that she wouldn’t be.

“It was obvious to everyone but you that he was in a relationship,” sneered Izzy.

“Izzy, you’re out of order!” Zack told his cousin. “Carrie obviously loved him. It’s natural to miss red flags when you love someone. She was lied to.”

“Thank you, Zack!” Carrie said with a tearful yet grateful smile. Izzy knew Robert was the one thing that hurt her without fail.

“Carrie now sleeps around with anyone with muscles,” Izzy added unnecessarily.

“Izzy, enough!” Zack exclaimed firmly. “Maybe this isn’t a good idea. I should find somewhere else to stay if you two are going to fall out.”

“No, please stay. I’m sorry, I was out of order,” Izzy quickly said remorsefully, finally conceding her behaviour wasn’t right. “I went too far. I’m sorry, Carrie.”
