Then AI turned the faucet on. Midjourney outputs. Claude builds. Video generations. Hundreds of options a week, filed by tool, findable by nobody. Six weeks later I could locate every image I ever generated and none of the decisions I ever made.

Here is the flip that fixed it: stop filing by where it came from. File by what it’s for.

Every folder is a decision, not a tool. Inside each one: the options (everything generated, any tool, dumped together), the approved (what won, usually one file), and one written line about why it won. The tools stopped mattering the day I stopped organizing around them.

Three rules hold the whole thing up.

One. Generate anywhere, decide in one place. Any tool can feed the options. Only your taste moves a file to approved.

Two. Killed work stays visible. Don’t delete the rejects. Half your taste is documented in what you said no to.

Three. A decision isn’t made until it’s written down. One line. If you can’t write the line, you haven’t decided. You’ve just stopped generating.

I turned this into a free kit. It has the one-page system and a prompt you paste into Claude that builds you a personal Decision Board, a working review app where you drag outputs in, approve, kill, and leave notes. No accounts. Nothing uploads. Your work never leaves your machine.

Let me start this story where it actually starts.

I came up at PSYOP in 2006,

when CG was still fighting for respect against film purists. I watched motion design go from “not real filmmaking” to the Super Bowl. Every tool I ever built a career on was dismissed as a gimmick first. So when AI showed up, I didn’t ask “is this cheating?” I asked the only question that ever mattered in production: can this help us make the thing?

I said yes in public. Post by post. For six years.

Phase one: teaching.

The early posts were show-and-tell. Here’s the tool. Here’s what it does

Here’s the prompt, the output, the fix. No gatekeeping, no mystique. I’d been the guy in the edit bay who learned every department’s language — producing taught me that — so translating a new one came naturally. Creatives started DMing me questions. I answered all of them.

Phase Two: defending.

Then the backlash hit, and being an AI guy in the creative industry stopped being cute. People I respected called the tools theft. Some called the people using them traitors.

I understood the fear — I won’t pretend I didn’t feel it too. I ran a studio for seven years. I hired artists. The thing threatening their rate card was the thing I was posting about.

But I kept posting, because the argument most people were having was the wrong one. The tools weren’t going away. The only real question was whether working creatives would be holding them when the industry reset — or whether they’d be held by someone else, aimed at us. I chose to defend the craft from inside the technology, not from outside it. Prompt frameworks instead of panic. Where the tools fit, and where they absolutely don’t. What responsible use actually looks like when a real brand and real artists are involved.

Phase three: the part that mattered.

Around the time the industry contracted, the DMs changed. They stopped being “how does this tool work” and became “I’ve been out of work for eight months.” Art directors. Editors. Motion designers. People with twenty years of craft and no callbacks.

So the teaching got specific. Not “AI is the future” — but here is the exact workflow that makes you the candidate they can’t ignore. Portfolio by portfolio, tool by tool, helping creatives bolt AI onto the craft they already had. Because that’s the actual unlock nobody talks about: AI doesn’t replace taste. It amplifies whoever has it. A mediocre prompt from a great art director beats a great prompt from someone who’s never shipped.

Watching someone go from “I think I’m done” to employed — with the same taste they always had, plus a new engine behind it — that beat any award on my shelf. And I have good awards.

Where it landed.

Six years in, I stopped arguing and started shipping.

I directed “Never Look Down,” a short film made entirely with AI tools, in the aftermath of the LA fires. I built a content studio where eight AI agents — script, design, animation, audio, edit — move work down an assembly line with a creative director’s quality gate on every handoff. That gate is me. It’s the same job I’ve always had: protect the idea, push the craft, ship the thing.

What took an agency, three states, and millions of dollars in 1989 — one person can now do from a garage. I know because I’m doing it.

The argument is over. The work won. And the creatives who spent these years learning instead of arguing are the ones holding the tools now.

Nancy’s an MMA fighter. Near and dear to me. 10 years ago, when she needed me, I didn’t show up. I was someone else then. Doing something else. Being someone I’m not anymore.

This weekend I showed up.

I got to walk her out to her fight. Stand beside her in the moment that mattered. She did amazing. Just being there, being a part of it, getting to contribute, getting to offer up my service.

That alone would’ve been enough.

But of course — I’m me. So that wasn’t enough.

She got tired around 1 AM. We were at a bar. I drove her home. And then the maniac in me wanted to rage.

There was a big glow festival going on. I’m driving toward it and I can see it’s ending. I pull up and I see these two kids on the street, and I just rolled the window down — “Hey, what’s up fellas. Yo. You know where the afters are at?”

Kid ended up being from LA. Pointed me in the right direction.

I get to the afters. I walk up. They go: “We’re closing up. Fire marshal shut us down.”

And immediately in my head, I heard a voice say: “Let’s get out of here.”

And I said back to myself: “That’s not the right voice.”

So I turned to the guys and said, “Do you guys need a hand?”

They looked at me like I was crazy.

I ended up helping them move equipment down. Heavy bags. Good workout, actually.

And at the end of it, I connected with the young man who’d put the whole party on. I could tell he was crushed. That’s a lot of time, a lot of work, a lot of money. And I said to him, “Chin up, tiger. You got another fight in you.”

And he said something I’m still thinking about:

“I don’t even care about the money. I just don’t want people to think we didn’t put on a party for them.”

I told him: Pal, that’s out of your control.

I got back to my hotel around 6 AM.

Walked in. Lady at the desk goes, “Sir, you were supposed to check in yesterday.”

I went, “Yeah. Kind of got the best of me.” Whatever. That’s who I am. Always trying to find the maximum amount of life.

I’m not ashamed of that anymore.

And the best part — the part that hits me now sitting here writing this — is I was sober the whole way. It didn’t even occur to me to take anything. Not at the bar. Not at the after. Not at 6 AM with a spinning head.

That’s not willpower. That’s something else.

I got 3 hours of sleep. Got up to meet Nancy at a Thai food festival.

And I’ll be honest — there was a part of me that wanted to skip the morning practice. Different city. Different bed. Different routine. Three hours of sleep. Give yourself a pass.

But I sat down and I read it anyway. Because here’s what I’ve learned:

Nothing changes if I’m in a different location. I still need to go and do my prayer, my meditation, my reading.

The reading today was called Receptivity: The First Law of Life. E. Stanley Jones.

And it was about me. It was about last night. It was about the kid with the after-party. It was about Nancy. It was about 10 years ago.

Here’s the line:

“A universal principle. Take a plant. How does it get power to become? By being proud, self-sufficient, unrelated, and unresponsive? No. By surrendering, adjusting, receiving, and giving.”

The plant doesn’t get power by asserting itself. By trying to lord it over the other plants. If it tries that, it loses power. It loses its power to become.

It gains power by surrender and by response to its environment.

When it adjusts, it takes in from air and soil and sun. And it grows.

And then this line, which knocked me over:

“Plant sin is anything that hinders that receptivity and response.”

For 10 years I was committing plant sin.

I was asserting. I was lording it over. I was unrelated. I was unresponsive. I was so busy trying to be powerful that I lost the power to become anything at all.

I didn’t show up for Nancy 10 years ago because I was committing plant sin.

This weekend was different.

When Nancy needed someone in her corner — I responded. That’s not assertion. That’s not me trying to be the main character. That’s a plant turning toward the sun.

When the kid running the party got crushed — I responded. I moved his bags. I told him chin up. That’s not asserting. That’s a plant adjusting to its environment.

When the voice in my head at 2 AM said “let’s get out of here” — I didn’t assert. I didn’t argue. I just said: that’s not the right voice. And I asked: do you guys need a hand?

That’s receptivity.

E. Stanley Jones writes:

“Our spiritual environment is the kingdom of God. When we respond to it, surrender to it, adjust ourselves to it, receive our very life from it, then we live — and live abundantly.”

I’m sitting in a hotel room in DC right now. Three hours of sleep. About to drive 5 hours home to make my 9 PM meeting. And I have never felt more alive.

Not because I raged. I didn’t.

Not because I won anything. I didn’t.

Not because something epic happened. It didn’t.

I feel alive because for the first time in a long time, I’m a plant in the sun. Surrendering. Adjusting. Receiving. Giving.

That’s the first law of life.

To believe is to receive.

And to receive is to replenish.

I showed up for Nancy this weekend.

And somewhere along the way, I showed up for myself.

The honest answer is I didn’t rebuild. I surrendered every morning and then did the next thing.

The next thing usually looks like this: coffee, the Abundant Living devotional, the reading for the day, pray, walk, work.

But one piece of that practice is harder to teach in a paragraph, so I built a prompt for it.

I use Claude as a mirror when I’m spinning. Not for advice. Not for fixing. For reflection. The prompt is short on purpose — it forces the work to stay on me, not the AI.

MORNING PROMPT

Today’s date: [today]

What I’m carrying: [3 sentences max — fear, resentment, or fog]

Do three things:

1. Read what I wrote back to me cleaner than I said it.

2. Name what’s underneath it (self-will, fear, self-pity,

control, pride, etc.).

3. Give me the opposite to practice today — one action,

not a concept.

No advice. No fixing. Just reflect, name, and assign.

Three notes on why it works this way.

It limits the AI. “No advice. No fixing.” Claude wants to solve. The prompt tells it to stop. The work has to stay yours.

It names the thing underneath. “I’m frustrated” is fog. “I’m acting out of self-will” is a diagnosis. The prompt forces the language.

It ends with an action, not an insight. Insight is cheap. Action is what changes the day. One action. One.

How I actually use it

Three steps, in this order:

1. Write with pen first. Whatever’s spinning, get it out of your head onto paper. Don’t edit. Don’t make it pretty.

2. Voice-command it into your phone. Speaking the words after writing them strips the performance out. You stop writing for the AI and start saying what’s actually true.

3. Paste into the prompt template and fill in the [brackets].

Pro tip: After the first response, ask Claude to use C.R.I.T. (Critical, Reductive, Inquiry-based, Truth-seeking) to question your input. One follow-up sentence:

“Use C.R.I.T. to ask me three questions that cl arify what I really mean.”

That’s where the prompt goes from “decent reflection” to “actually shifts my day.”

I don’t use this every morning. Some mornings the walk is enough. Some mornings reading the chapter and shutting the laptop is enough.

But on the mornings when I’m spinning, when I’m pretending I don’t know what’s underneath, when I’m about to start three new things instead of finishing one — this is what I open.

Still spinning some mornings. Still using the prompt when I do.

It’s 11:50pm. I’m walking.

I was supposed to get 15,000 steps today. Woke up tired — donated blood yesterday. Ran this morning anyway. Napped before the Knicks game. Work commitments rolling through the night. And then it’s 11:50 and I’m still short.

So I walk.

Talked to Steve tonight — my sponsor. And the thing I don’t want to lose from that call is this:

I have dreams in my heart.

For the longest time I couldn’t say them out loud. Comparison would shut it down. Self-pity. Anger. Victimhood. The character defects would line up in formation — and underneath all of them, the one actually running the operation, was fear.

The fear shows up as procrastination. That’s the disguise it wears.

Here’s the truth I’ve been afraid to say:

I want a Billboard #1 hit.

I wrote a rap in second grade. Turned it in instead of the book report. The dream has been in me that long.

It’s not braggadocious to say what’s true. It’s just hard. But I’m getting used to it.

These walks aren’t just about steps.

I used to escape. Alcohol. Drugs. Work. If my girlfriend was being nasty, or I was upset about something, I’d distance myself. Isolate. Pour into work. Pour into music. Or get high and look at the ocean — telling myself I was being an artist. A worker. Taking care of myself.

The opposite was true.

I’d say I have to be successful. I have to have fun.

How wrong I was.

I’m an alcoholic. So even good things, I’d abuse to the point of insanity.

Steve calls it the forever game. The defects don’t disappear — they just show up in new outfits. Tonight’s outfit was I’m too tired to walk. But the real story was, I was scared to be alone with myself in the quiet.

Because on these walks, I talk to God. I figure out who I am. I solidify what I’m working on. That’s the thing the fear actually wants me to skip.

So I named the fears tonight:

I’m scared I’ll never make a hit record. I’m scared I’ll never find success again. I’m scared I’ll never meet the love of my life.

And then — the thing I couldn’t have said two years ago:

I’m in the greatest situation I’ve ever been in. Because I’m more connected to God than I’ve ever been. And it’s not a false statement anymore.

252 lbs a year ago. 193 to 195 right now. Body’s holding water. It’s slow. It’s not glamorous.

It’s just the work. And it’s progress. And I can see it.

14,400 steps. By the time I’m back inside, it’ll be 15,000.

But the number isn’t the point.

The point is another notch in the peg that says: mind over matter. Believe in myself. Listen to God. Don’t let the defects stop me from where I’m going.

Lose the weight. Build the body. Become successful again. Become the person I actually am inside. And the work is an INSIDE JOB.

Grateful for that tonight.

What is it really?

A brand?
A comeback?

Truthfully, I don’t think I fully know yet.

And maybe that’s the point.

I didn’t start this because I had everything mapped out.

I started it because I needed a direction.

When your life gets messy, when things fall apart, when you feel behind, when you’re rebuilding your body, your work, your confidence, your identity — you don’t always get a crystal clear mission.

Sometimes you just get a direction.

For me, that direction was north.

I think a lot of people online are trying to look finished.

I’m not finished.

I’m in process.

Rebuild a life that actually feels like mine.

And I know I’m not the only one.

There are a lot of people out there who feel behind.
A lot of people starting over.
A lot of people who lost momentum.
A lot of people who know they have more in them but can’t fully see the path yet.

Maybe that’s who this is for.

Not people looking for a guru.

People looking for proof.

Proof that it’s not too late.
Proof that you can start again.
Proof that discipline can come before clarity.
Proof that a person can rebuild in real time.

Maybe that’s the value.

Not me standing at the finish line.

Me walking the road and saying, this is what it looks like from here.

The wins.
The confusion.
The systems.
The setbacks.
The tools.
The days when it clicks.
The days when it doesn’t.

Maybe SeanGoesNorth exists to give language to that season of life.

The season where you are not who you were, but not yet who you’re becoming.

I’m Choosing Music. For Real.

It’s been a while.

I went quiet for a reason.

The last few years weren’t about visibility. They were about survival. Healing. Rebuilding from the ground up.

I left Los Angeles to come home and support my mom through multiple surgeries. I lost work. I lost people I loved. I went through a breakup. I gained weight. I watched doors close.

It got dark. I won’t romanticize that.

But something else happened too.

I got sober.

Two and a half years now.

Sobriety gave me time. Real time. Enough to slow down and stop running from myself. Enough to face what I had been avoiding.

I started taking my spiritual, mental, and physical health seriously. And the more I cleared out the wreckage of my past, the more clarity showed up.

Not abstract clarity. Practical clarity.

Peace.
Direction.
Conviction.

And from that place, something became undeniable:

I’m supposed to make music.

It’s always been that.

I’ve just been afraid to fully claim it.

The fear wasn’t loud. It was subtle. I could rap — that felt controlled. But singing? Being heard in that way? That felt exposed.

I went through a traumatic experience from 2020-2025. Each year, something life-altering was occurring. Financial troubles in 2022 - which I'm grateful for now - forced me to use BRUTE FORCE to realize something profound:

We don't have to wait for big tech companies or healthcare systems to solve this problem.

The research is public, the methods are documented, and the need in our industry is desperate.

I began journaling in 2021 with ChatGPT, reading Medium articles, keeping up with best practices from Google DeepMind research. The combination of my three years of personal data and the validated research methodologies gave me everything I needed to create something specifically for our industry.
