Inspired by our viral TikTok series and powered by the same logic behind our Myers-Briggs for shopping, we present you: Show us what you buy, and we’ll tell you who you are ;)

Worthy of our attention this week: Studying students. It’s that time of the year when sunlight starts clocking out early, peaches give way to apples, and even the long-graduated among us are hit with a bout of back-to-school fever…Ahh! To have the luxury of luxuriating in the peaks and troughs of adolescence again. I know I’m only 25, but youth is wasted on the young! For every year that the distance grows from my last day of school, I mourn its loss that much more. Something about that hairpin turn into Labor Day every year that is just so…tantalizing…

Chloe and I (along w our brother) flew to Chicago last week to surprise our mother for her bday (success!!) and the combination of parents + siblings + home in the waning days of August really stirred up big-time school nostalgia. The back-to-school Target and Office Depot runs, the thrill of the first day outfit, the dizzying number of hours planning and actually decorating lockers (does anyone remember Target locker chandeliers that sold out by June?? I was team disco ball), and the school drop-offs ofc, which started way too early for us at 14 when we were shipped off to boarding schools.

College drop-offs definitely felt less traumatic bc of prior practice, but homesickness from age 14-17 was acute and not cute. And to this day, no smell in adult life competes with a humid dorm hallway in the last week of August, with sketchy industrial carpets that have absorbed 4+ decades of other people's beginnings.

In honor of shopping period (not for compasses but for classes) that probably starts right about now, when college students decide whether to make the Faustian bargain of easy As or life-changing (but possibly soul-crushing) course material, we are going to study the one object that every student must carry: the “bookbag.” Although the term does feel increasingly moot and “backpack” disqualifies half the field…we need a better term. A prevailing theory is that bag size (and to some degree shape) tracks neatly along the upward slope of academic ambition lol. With that, 10 archetypes around the back-to-school bags or bags-to-school as we’d like to call it…let’s read you like a book(bag).

If your Back-to-School Bag is the…

1. JanSport Right Pack ($75)…you’re the accidental retro minimalist with a small, non-negotiable friend group of <4. You've had this since you were 15, may have it at 35 to use as your “personal item” for flights, and will probably pass it down to your kids bc of that lifetime warranty you fully intend to collect. The suede bottom has outlived two phones, three crushes, and a personality you test-drove freshman fall that may or may not have included upgrading your first name somehow. #skinnyjeans forever. And Vans or Vejas from your youth that you haven’t retired and will never. Your chucks have seen better days too and stay in rotation for sentimental reasons (just like the JanSport). Uniqlo Ultra Light Down the instant it dips below 60. Most likely to carry the group project and be happy to do so.

   

2. Prada Re-Nylon Rucksack ($2,500)…you think the fashion statement is worth it, but people are seriously questioning your academic rigor and commitment (there’s that size:slope correlation) and now you’re left wondering whether you care…or should. The bag is indisputably form over function, which is why the iPad Pro 11 rides in your hand like a clipboard but you’re not mad about it bc that means you can cosplay a hot British prep-school boy from Eton, GoodNotes open, Apple Pencil attached (for now; you’ve lost more than one). Handoff has blasted your music into a silent lecture at least twice and you (still) have not turned it off. You acquired this bag one of two ways: 1) in middle school when your mom gave it to you as part of her Marie Kondo purge or 2) in high school when your parents got it for you for your 16th bday, both of which had you shamed for a sec when the class comments had everyone calling you a rich b*tch. There’s a whole love-hate thing: it’s street cred and an identity to fall back on when you’re lost inside, and it also means almost nobody sees your intentions, which are pure (hopefully…). Boxed in, and then over time, doing the boxing yourself, bc who are you without the label.

   

3. Eastpak Padded Pak’r ($55)…you’re either a hiker or a math whiz gone contrarian-grunge, and boy does the bag know. 11/10 chance there’s a Hydro Flask in here, maybe even a liquor flask too who knows, can never be too sure these days man. Snack (+ candy) stockpile always bc it’s social currency and a fast track to friendship with the kid next to you who’s hungry and bored, lethal combo. The interior is jank bc you are the kind of person who stuffs your papers inside (what is the 2026 equivalent hmmm). Upper decky warrior (tragic that you can’t stick the Zyns under the desk like our forebears did with gum), although you probably won’t share those. Naturally smart, cba to push the B+ to an A-, never listening, asking your teacher to repeat the question twice, so no one is inflating anything for you, but you don’t really mind.

   

4. Rains Backpack ($140)…no scandi person actually wears this but you do, and damn does it make you feel like the mysterious, emotionally restrained lead of a Nordic noir. Bought in Europe, obviously, and Copenhagen cHaNgEd yOuR LiFe. More likely Canadian than American, or just a nature head, as capitalism-avoidant as they come, with a suspiciously advanced soft spot for good wine at an age when your peers are drinking things that rely on brand names or are just straight-up four buck chucks. Library demon. First in, last out, which is not the flex you think it is, king (read: LIFO supremacy in college). You are ultimately very earnest in your efforts, so earnest that you’ll read the class syllabi cover to cover and maybe even take notes on them to reference throughout the semester. You are neither mysterious nor emotionally restrained.

   

5. Fjällräven Kånken ($95)…blue, or green, or teal, and everyone who’s met you could have called it. Soft girl energy so complete that people genuinely wonder whether anything — literally anything — has ever happened to you. Soft hands, deep woes? Likely to romanticize serotonin-fueled passions that require both hands and therefore complete focus like analog photography and knitting. Chappell Roan soundtracked last summer, Olivia Dean is soundtracking this one, and yet you remain a die-hard Swiftie. We won’t make you choose! Loud Hydro with hella ice, ideally matching the tote. Highlights. AirPods Max on public transit, in this economy, weighing what they weigh, because you are misinformed and still think it’s a flex OR maybe you’re just trying to get the cost-per-use down even though you lost faith in them after the fifth use.

   

6. Goyard Saint Louis GM, in green ($2,450 real, $85 fake)…you also think the fashion statement is worth it…allegedly, it was a “hand-me-down from mom,” but lowkey it could be fake. Giving Southern, or West Coast state school, or brave Ivy Leaguer who can withstand the eye-rolls. College was always about the top house, and that’s bc you feel most like yourself inside a group with clear rules and leaders. The triple threat: Golden Goose, this puppy, and a black shiny Moncler in January. Be honest. You struggle to style the green, and you get mogged by the red and the orange and the blue every single time you see them coming. Long game though ur fine!!! This bag becomes correct the moment you become a mom, at which point the City and the Paddington get handed down and you’re still here. It’s called staying power.

   

7. Gérard Darel Le 24h ($525)…niche warrior AYYYY, we salute you. Either you’re French French, or a product of the whole French system, in which case you are not reading this and are simply buying what you like in peace like a normal person. Also likely: you’re American and went hunting for something stylish and quiet but not obviously designer, priced like a legitimate bag and not a TJ Maxx oopsie. You nearly bought the 36h but you’re glad you didn’t, because the 36h is a mammoth and somehow the 24h fits everything anyway! You tend to see the good in people and will happily get on a subway, bag half open with some valuables in sight, AirPods in, noise-canceling enabled, and believe that no one will steal. “Londoners are so jaded smh”

8. Longchamp Le Pliage ($180)…it’d be too easy to call you basic. You’re more the easy-peasy, Jack-and-Wheezie type, always going with the flow, so you actually can’t distinguish what you are feeling from what everyone is feeling. Is it your idea or theirs? It’s the equivalent of really liking and having conviction in the second perfume you smell in a perfume shop but then getting so influenced/intoxicated (maybe just dizzy) from all the other best sellers that you end up kind of liking them all and forgetting your first love. Shocker: you are the biggest doomscroller and will happily get sucked into the vortex. A tech overlord’s dream ICP. Matcha stan who has never made one, buying it out every single day like a subscription bc who amortizes matcha powder?? Despite its name, you’ve never once folded Le Pliage, but by buying Le Pliage, you, well, folded.

9. Balenciaga Le City ($2,990)…you probably never would have bought this without the revival, and it still takes a real brave soul to pull it off, esp in a bright color, ESP at a school where standing out will mean flipping off your amygdala. Good for you for declining the conventional shape of success despite being torn down the middle about it. You understand exactly what the finance job is worth and yet…you also have a lust for life that skews art curator, documentarian, film programmer, just Not journalism. STEM subject plus this bag equals major aura. Some of you think you’re too good for Greek life, and the boldness of the color maps almost perfectly onto the size of the distaste, because cults terrify you and your sense of self is a do-not-touch zone. Final boss superiority complex is graffiti or two-tone. And yes, half the girlies are thrifting these now and coming home with a Work or a Papier by accident, which is fine bc you’re wearing it for the drip and not for the intel (not to mention, you’ll get away with it). Most likely to turn in the best paper in the section the minute it’s due.

10. Free People Emerson Tote ($248)…a school bag is a school bag is a school bag to you. You want to look cute and you cba with the status games attached to three other bags of roughly this shape on this list. Necklace stacks, ring stacks, bracelet stacks and the daily irritation of removing all of it at the end of the day, which you accept with open arms and fingers #dripislife. Your bag displays all the charms collected from your travels and mom-and-pop stores, ostensibly to “enhance” and “personalize” bc you and you alone reserve the right to define yourself. Generally unproblematic, a self-proclaimed “floater” with friends across every circle bc again, you refuse to be categorized! Half the designer girlies on this list may sneer at the bag but they also secretly envy your nervous system, and there's something almost too on the nose about carrying a bag named after the guy who wrote Self-Reliance. Kinda funny that the leather is sold as intentionally lived-in while you’re out here intentionally living yours in real time.

Lilia stepped back, tried again, squinted at the result, then lowered her phone like a flag at half-mast but make it 0.5x zoom. With no particular buildup, she exhaled: “Do you think photo dumps are dead?” I buffered. “Wait. Bruh I literally JUST posted one.” She laughed.

Surely it wasn’t the first time I’d thought about the slow and painful death of the medium, but it got me thinking…how did we lose the plot? If the whole point of a dump began as quite literally that — a spontaneous download of the visual bits and bobs of life, invented somewhat in revolt against feeds so lacquered you could practically see your reflection in them #poetic — how did it become this much work?

A “casual” dump now requires combing through hundreds (if not thousands) of photos, agonizing over opener and closer, promoting pic 6, demoting 2, dialing up and down until the final product looks perfectly unconsidered while remaining, from every angle, imperfectly considered. I used to rationalize it as a creative exercise, no different than a mixologist at a Top 50 bar obsessing just as much over the first smell, first sip, and last note of a drink. But then, why are we all making the same cocktail, with every standard pour tasting something like:

• A 0.5 selfie (cheeky!)

• Recent clothing acquisition(s) (pics or did i really buy anything??)

• A dirty martini, or a funky cocktail with something unnameable pickled in it (i’m niche like that!)

• Half-eaten plate of steak frites (i have appetite! joie de vivre!)

• Three blurry friends in quasi-flash (i have friends! i stay out late! i let my hair down sometimes!)

• A bowl of fruit (i’m summoning my inner cézanne! i have an #eye)

• Nature, filmed vertically (channeling ansel here! and I don’t mean the baby driver)

• A window looking out into unclear landscape (ah the eternal human pursuit of clarity but finding none)

• A street sign or license plate with subtle innuendo (broadcasting to all but intended for 1)

• One suspiciously good photo, buried under enough visual debris to ward off potential thirst trap allegations (i accept all of me!)

• Etc. etc.

Canning the Candids

Cultural theorists call the photo dump calibrated amateurism; internet pundits call it performative nonchalance. Whatever the term, we’ve reached the point where trying hard and trying hard not to look try-hard require about the same amount of work. Are we surprised?

In the past, the candid shot was more often than not, actually candid, which is exactly what made it special (and therefore credible, or credible therefore special?). And then distribution did what distribution does: it distributed. To everyone. We all learned the grammar of the candid: the flash, the friend caught mid-bite, the finger over the lens, the post-dessert plates, the laissez-faire outtakes of life that were anything but laissez-faire or outtake. Instead, the outtakes became a bona fide, studied shot list.

That is the photo dump’s actual problem: Everyone is doing the same thing. Authenticity only works when it’s hard to name and difficult to counterfeit. Once a clear playbook is established with recurring visual cues and recognizable production choices, it no longer feels authentic, and the culture begs for a counter-trend. (Make no mistake: one is already in incubation)

But it wasn’t a total waste. The dump took care of the small problem of, well, vanity (there I said it). It gave you plausible deniability about caring too much about your image! One beautiful photo asks you to stand wholeheartedly behind your own judgment, whereas 20 photos surround the claim with disclaimers, which is presumably why Instagram kept raising the ceiling: 10 slides, then 20. What’s the minimum sample size of deniability??

But curation itself cannot reasonably be the villain. A diary is curated too, as is a scrapbook or photobook. Heck, memory itself is an editor with fairly aggressive cuts. Nostalgia = memory - pain. Documenting anything already has a built-in this, not that; worth keeping, not worth keeping. We all do it consciously or subconsciously, and to say otherwise would be a fool’s errand.

For most of photography’s history, the limitations were obvious: film cost money, development took time, and cameras weren’t always in your hand. A photograph meant some small expenditure of attention and intention. Then digital photography swooped in and solved the problem of scarcity lock, stock, and barrel, and yet: we barely noticed the inversion. A single dinner can produce more photographs than my grandparents might have taken in a year.

If the old problem was a game of addition (how to capture more), the new paradigm seems to point towards subtraction (capturing less, capturing better).

Proof of Life

The idea of “capturing better” powers Selleb, the app I co-founded with my sister to document our lives through receipts.

Most social platforms ask you to start with a blank page. Make something, say something from nothing! That’s a lot of pressure. And exactly why even the greatest of authors freak out and suffer writer’s block when confronted with a white page/screen….And also why so many of us defer to the playbook…

Selleb gives you a starting point, an anchor, a topic: a single receipt sitting in your inbox or crumpled at the bottom of your purse or pocket! It may be the most honest document of your life produced anyway, because 1) it’s raw material that already exists (easy participation!) and better yet, 2) it is irrefutable, post-facto evidence of a life already lived (REAL #proofoflife).

From there, you can personalize it: add the photograph, the story, the review, the regret, the return, the person you were with, the reason a completely ordinary line item still brings an entire night rushing back. At the end of the day, humans are incorrigible archivists; we save ticket stubs, restaurant matchboxes, post-it notes, receipts, postcards, mementos, EVERYTHING. Don’t get me wrong: I LOVE MY MEMORY BOXES. The instinct to document was never the problem. The starting point is…

The future of authenticity isn't about looking less staged or documenting for its sake, but starting with the most honest variables from your day-to-day: the stuff (small or big) you actually bought. START THERE. Tell us what you bought, where, and maybe even why, and your authentic story will write itself.

Worthy of our attention this week: Clocking clocks. The ones on your wrist, to be precise.

Because…the less you need something, the more revelatory your choice becomes, right? Strip a thing of its function and all that's left is the choosing. Nobody straps on 5 figures to decipher it’s 12; your phone does that for free. So unless you’re actively friction/analog-maxxing to squint at a dial that may not even have the hour markers lol, your watch is basically jewelry. “Time-themed jewelry” actually, according to Ashley Hamilton of Good Noticings.

Two weeks 336 hours ago, we built caricatures for the rich b*tch bracelet wearers, and the follow-up basically wrote itself bc some of you don’t wear a bracelet. You wear… a watch. The wrist has always been the hottest contested patch of bodily real estate. And which one tells the better story? It’s a question as old as time.

Truth be told, was there ever a serious debate over which would win? If the bracelet is the buzzy tenant with clout (Gen Z thought daughter), the watch is the stalwart, respectable homeowner holding the deed (Gen X latchkey mom). She may not glitter as flamboyantly as her full-stack competitor, but that’s precisely the point. The greatest trick a watch ever pulled was convincing everyone it was about telling time when it was really just pulling a uno reverse JLC Reverso and telling on YOU. And you’re not entirely mad about it…

In the end, the watch may arguably be the strongest signaler of wealth, taste, and ball a woman can wear. With that, it’s time to dial up (or in?) and punch the clock on 12 (holy) grails and what they tell, besides the time…Fair or foul, you be the judge.

If your Rich B*tch Watch is…

1. Patek Philippe Nautilus ($110,000+ second hand, secondhand)…it’s no accident that your watch of choice was inspired by a ship’s porthole (why does this lowkey sound crass when you say this fast), through which you’ve peered out for years on end, sailing through those treacherous waters with an eye on the prize. You never gave up bc you’re one tenacious f*ck. Against all statistical odds of being born and then rolling the dice on material success (smith, marx, faust, yadayayda), you did that shit. And this was the cash prize. A private expedition with extremely public rewards, indeed. A bit cliché and showy, but it’s defensible at least bc you don’t actually own it, right? You’re merely looking after it for the next gen ;)

   

2. Cartier Panthère ($10,000-24,800; small steel from ~$4,500)…you chose the “most desirable” on the watch list, and we may as well call this the René Girard pick: you don't want things, you want what other people want, and the Panthère is the market-clearing price of that idea. You’re also fully aware that the vintage quartz carries a different pedigree and patina: the old-world kind, the my-mother-wore-it-to-the-divorce-proceedings ilk. Maybe you can “get the look” and buy the fauxtina by way of TRR? Call it The Golden Goose Effect™️.

   

3. Bulgari Serpenti ($57,000)…every time you check the time, you look a snake in the eye, which is exactly how your exes would characterize their interactions with you. Cold-blooded is a temperature-regulation strategy you find efficient. Most likely to strike first, apologize never, and shed the whole friend group by spring. On repeat: I’ve been losing friends and finding peace, and honestly that sounds like a fair trade to me. You spend three hours on your hair and have never once looked shabby, and you don’t own sweats, you own loungewear. Big dif. A stockpile of Cire Trudon candles at home, unlit, gathering a fine dust of intention. Never to be seen in a moving vehicle with more than 3 people.

4. Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso (starting $8,300)…you look down on Tank wearers bc they’re a dime a dozen and the only Tank you’ll ever own is a top bc you are the one and only, a self-assessment currently being made by roughly 12 other Reverso wearers within a two-mile radius. You’re the intellectual of the group, and you appreciate the locked-diary energy of your watch that the others can’t touch. It’s the only watch on here with a second face, which you find apt :/ Yours is uniquely sourced, obviously: a vintage case from a Geneva dealer, caseback lacquered with something whimsical or witty. You dress clean and correct, and you take Lemaire, Margiela, Limi Feu, Issey main line over the Row/Khaite/Totême trinity for the same reason you choose JLC over Cartier: as self-administered evidence of superior taste and intel. You’ll describe your style as Japanese-Parisian without a hint of irony. Kinto glassware can be found in your cupboard and Montblanc fountain pens in your desk drawer.

   

5. Piaget Sixtie ($28,535–$34,600)…it’s giving push present or former hedge-fund wife, the latter being, well, recently former. Whatever it is, #newchapter, congrats. How fitting then, that the Sixtie was inspired by a trapeze! An apparatus that only works if you’re willing to let go of the first bar before you’ve caught the second…There’s even a brief suspended moment when you’re holding on to nothing at all. What was is now gone, and what is meant to be, well, is just a matter of time of course, which is the one thing you’re now wearing…

6. Rolex Datejust ($10,000-13,900)…ah the ultimate flexer, or rather Ro(f)lexer. Though a risk-averse one at that, bc the Datejust is the vanilla latte of horology. We see you pairing this with a tennis bracelet or a love bracelet or both, bc the watch is too basic to stand on its own two feet, so supporting actors are welcome here — even if they’re weak and may just strengthen the vanilla argument circulating on your behalf — and you know it. Tethered to traditions and old-timey mores, you are actually a pretty righteous person who is fiercely loyal and has uncapped capacity for familial love. You have clear edges and boundaries, but sometimes you wish you could just spin up the alias and lead a double life, if only for a night, and piss on said edges/boundaries. But you don’t. Can’t. Being “the dependable one” is the one asset you’re genetically incapable of gambling away (to your detriment, but to everyone else’s benefit). Maybe in your next life. Or with your next watch?

   

7. Cartier Baignoire ($22,600)…you have only a few female role models bc you’re picky nuanced like that. You see discrepancies, holes, and contradictions where others see bulletproof. But you’re no killjoy, no no. You see humor and irony even in the simplest of things. Case(back) in point: you chuckled that this watch meant bathtub in French, and god knows how many hours you’ve clocked with some bubbly in the bubbly. It sits high and kinda tight on the wrist bone, and slightly too small by design, bc comfort was never the assignment. Chances are, you bought this via waitlist and post-celeb virality, after the trend confirmed itself through Kylie, Kendall, and even our favorite girl-next-door Emma Chamberlain. Early adoption is for people with something to prove and an insatiable ego, right?

8. Chanel Première ($5,900)…you don’t know what time it is, quite literally. You’re not happy about the fact that there are no hour markers, but you’re also not sad about it either. #AeStHeTiC. As far as picks go, the Première is safe-ish, so you haven’t really won, but you also haven’t lost. And a draw is still a result you can wear with confidence. You’re the fashion girl’s fashion girl and an avid costume jewelry collector, which is a compliment in this house bc knowing what looks expensive is a separate and rarer skill from knowing what is. This was your first real watch and aptly evokes openings, debuts, and first nights, which suits a woman who dresses for the arrival rather than the actual dinner. You also like your champagne served the way you like your humor: Extra Brut.

9. Hermès Apple Watch ($1,299)…the cheapest on this list, to be sure, but you’re certainly not the cheapest. Since you’re a gym rat and a step-counter who refuses to fluff Palantir’s pillows (read: Oura) and can’t quite pull off the double wristing either (you don’t have the Olympian’s alibi), you’ve opted for this bad boy. You work in finance or at your family’s company, which may very well be the same thing. Type A, perfectionist, tracks sleep on Rise and takes the heart rate to heart. You’ve read the 5am Club, attempted and failed. The Stand notification hits during deep work and you feel real rage, briefly, then stand. In your arsenal: embossed Smythson notebooks, sturdy tortoiseshell hair clips, blue light glasses as a lock-in placebo. Most likely to close your rings but never your tabs.

Worthy of our attention this week: Ice ice baby. In the jewelry universe, no sliver of skin boasts as much lore per square cm as the wrist. Earrings frame the face, the necklace adorns the neckline, the ring seals the deal. The bracelet, however, offers no such retreat. The medium is the message; the stack is the attack. Every gesture is a campaign: punctating a point, summoning the check, saluting a toast. It glints. It clinks. Never still, always making its case. After all, where else are we supposed to wear our hearts but on under our sleeves?

So it’s no surprise, then, that the #1 most-knocked-off piece of jewelry in the world is a (love) bracelet. In fact, the fakes got so good that Cartier had to halt its own authentication processes for fear of false negatives. Baudrillard would've had a field day…

There’s a scene in season 2 of Your Friends and Neighbors that says it all. When Elena, a housekeeper to Westmont’s well-heeled, is offered a love bracelet of her own, she grimaces and dismisses it as being “very basic rich bitch.” If that doesn’t sum it up.

Consignments from that subset of “high-flying” influencers arrived like clockwork and had nearly identical profiles each and every time: the same stable of PR brands and SKUs with sometimes 2-3 sizes of each, and all NWT. Hmmm…But consumers are savvy. They know what's up. They weren't interested in buying the freebies influencers themselves had passed over. We're talking pristine, never-worn I Am Gia sets with the tags still on, unless, ofc, the markdown was too good to ignore. Meanwhile, the nano and micro influencer girls were clearing 300% premiums on used vintage shorts and unbranded smock dresses bc those pieces actually had a life before (i.e., there were TikTok/IG/Youtube vids of them wearing the pieces, digital footprints, provenance, etc.). TLDR: Consumers were onto influencers shouting fake love on free stuff from the rooftops. Show us the receipts!

PR seeding was always a thing, no doubt, but in recent years it’s been institutionalized into a well-oiled machine. This is in large part thanks to ShopMy, which handles the logistics for brands who want to partake in creator gifting. Word on the street is that ShopMy has grown fastest among the exact brands that would otherwise never swallow that pill, specifically for their Lookbooks feature, the auto-gifting tool 90% of them use, which has already shipped close to $40 million of free product. (The company is now worth $1.5 billion.)

But the thing with gifts (we now get them too!) 1) Who doesn’t love them. 2) Free things hit different. 3) Every gift also encodes a debt, and in this economy that debt gets settled in enthusiasm. So good that we are putting their toothpaste to the test too (apparently good for sensitive teeth and if yk us, we can’t turn away a fun flavor). 500+ woven fibers coated in coconut oil. This jewelry designer is one to watch for sure…a worthy “dupe” for some of the 6-digit hardware stacks that might otherwise grace your Pinterest feeds.    • Christine: Windows Down by Henry Rose.

   • Natazia: None! I am sensitive to scents (scentsitive lol).

2. What’s your AM skincare routine?

   • Christine: I have ultra dry skin so I tend to skip morning cleansing and rinse with water. I’ll put on our recently launched Glow Recipe PDRN+ Toner Pads while I make my morning coffee - they hug the skin so I can move around in them and it leaves my skin instantly calmer and hydrated. I’ll then remove the pads, swipe all over my skin and then use two serums - I’m always trying new products and am rotating right now between the Glow Recipe Prickly Pear Serum, Lion’s Pose Vitamin C. Then it’s moisturizer (testing some samples right now!) and then always SPF. I don’t wear makeup often but when I do I’ll swipe on some Hourglass Veil Skin Tint.

   • Natazia: Five minute gua sha using Lesse Ritual Serum when I have time, then Jan Marini Bioglycolic cleanser, OneSkin eye cream, Epicutis Lipid Serum, Jan Marini transformation cream, Sofie Pavitt sunscreen if it’s a no makeup day, Ciele tint and protect if I’m wearing “makeup.” Worth mentioning the part that most people seem to skip: I cover my entire body in OneSkin Peptide Firming Lotion morning and night. We spend so much time on our face and then neglect the rest of our body - I am trying to be ageless head to toe!

   • Christine: I’ve been trying to wear less polyester when possible, especially when sweating, so it’s usually baggy cotton sweatpants and a Happy Earth crop tank.

   • Natazia: A vintage 501 from RTL is always going to be my #1 (specifically a white pair I found last year that changed my life). Not to mention, it is still cheap, relatively speaking, and not uncommon to pay 6 or 7 euros for a 45min Uber or Bolt. The weather is mild year-round, everyone seems to speak perfect English (lol such an American thing to say), and the food scene is BUSTLING, where fresh ingredients take center stage and heavy dressings take a back seat. Speaking of dressing, you don’t come to Portugal for the most insane fashion scene, but the food/arts/architecture/culture more than make up for it and make it a destination worth dropping a pin for. Note: there is so much to explore outside of Lisbon so expect some side quests including Madeira and Porto at the end of the guide, if you dare…It’s a slow burn and a long goodbye (read: saudade).

Lisbon: Where to Eat

The Main Dish (book these now, not later)

1. O Velho Eurico: THE GOAT. Every person who’s been to Lisbon recently and has high standards for food will tell you this. Book early if you can or pull up right before opening (11h45 for a noon open) and wait ~30 min for a table while wandering the (very nice) area. 1000000% worth it. Every dish slapped: the bacalhau was outrageous, so was the orange squid, and all the rice dishes. You drink the wine out of little bowls, which is as fun as it sounds. Come hungry.

2. Prado: The tasting menu was A++. SO YUM. 100% local, seasonal ingredients turned into (deceptively) bold dishes in a comforting, plant-filled room. Get the wine pairing (compared to NYC prices it’s a borderline steal) for the perfect meal.

3. Belcanto: If you’re doing one proper splurge-y temple meal in Lisbon, this is the one (2 Michelin stars). They had little illustrated cards + stories for each dish to take home, which was a nice touch. Memorable bites: chef’s snacks, scarlet shrimp (made me fall in love with shrimp even more if that’s possible) and the prosciutto ice cream sandwich (lives rent-free in my head).

4. Canalha: The talk of the town, for good reason. The octopus was the softest thing we’ve ever put in our mouths and the olive-oil-and-wine program was dialed. Pro tip: dinner reservations are tough so maybe go for lunch and order a few bites instead of committing to the whole-hog dinner. You don’t need the full marathon to get the magic.
