Okay. Let me stop yapping.

I Downloaded LinkedIn. Then Deleted It. Then Downloaded It Again Like an Idiot.

Back in 2022, I was broke as a 19-year-old college student desperately looking for ways to make money on the side.

Thanks to YouTube (I owe her everything) — I found LinkedIn.

I downloaded it. Scrolled for two minutes. Got confused. Deleted it.

I genuinely thought it was some formal "job portal" sh*t too adult for a 19-year-old girl who was still figuring out how to cook Maggi without burning it. So instead I started freelancing on 10 other platforms. (A story worth telling for another day).

In 2023, I downloaded LinkedIn againnnn. I knowww (in a Monica Geller energy). I was still a college student trying to build a network. The kind where only connecting with Christophe Jaffrelot could save me. (I was a Political Science student)

I treated LinkedIn worse than the internet treats Selena Gomez.

Hated it. Ghosted it. Posted 4 times a year like it was a distant relative I only texted on birthdays.

Here's what my day looked like back then:

wake up in a rush, barely eat breakfast, head to college always late, design carousels in the metro on a phone slower than -3x speed, edit videos for clients between lectures, come home, scroll for five hours, sleep too late, repeat.

While dealing with a toxic-a*s boyfriend who was cheating on me anyway.

Huh. I felt tired just writing that.

But then I made a comeback. Well — there was never a setback, I just never started.

By September 2025, I deleted every social media app (Yes, including the one with 20k followers). Every freelancing platform too.

Because all this time, I was working. Not building.

I came back to LinkedIn. And gave her the love she deserved.

Then I Proceeded to Get Everything Wrong. Immediately.

For the first three months, I did pretty much everything a beginner does. Every single mistake, right on schedule.

I thought LinkedIn had to be boring. Formal. Wins-and-lessons only. Corporate soul-sucking content. 2014 motivational poster with Gigi Hadid on it.

You remember that Facebook phase. Huh, peak cringe.

So instead of building something real, I chased numbers. 1,000 followers. 500+ connections. I celebrated being "humbled to be selected out of 300 applicants for an unpaid internship, certificate generously provided, designed on Canva."

You know the type.

I was the type.

My profile was a disaster. Buzzwords stacked on buzzwords — "AI x content & visual strategist," "policy analysis," "University of London" from a course I did for three weeks. Every skill I had ever breathed near, crammed into one bio like I was scared to leave anything out.

Black-and-white profile picture because some guru said that's what "serious people" do. An About section so long it mentioned 20 communities I was barely part of.

None of it was technically a lie. But I was mentioning everythingggg. Just to look like the next Lara Acosta.

I wasn't building a brand. I was building a Wikipedia page nobody asked for.

Then I started posting. And this is where it gets genuinely embarrassing.

See, I was targeting policy analysis opportunities. Because Political Science, you know. But what the hell was I posting?

Random takes on why women get stuck with the "Mrs." tag. Political commentary that mostly just got me trolled. Adding strangers to hit a connection count and calling it a "community" when most of them didn't know I existed.

On top of that, I followed hundreds of growth coaches feeding me an endless list of rules.

Best time to post. Best hashtags. Perfect hook formula. White space rules. The "ideal framework."

I optimised so hard, following every single rule at once, that I lost myself completely.

Every time I wrote something, it had to survive the framework filter first:

Hook: "99% got it wrong. Here's why..."

Body: short lines, white spaces, storytelling and somewhere in there, whatever made me sound like me.

CTA: "If you agree, DM 'agree'."

By month three: decent engagement. 500 followers who loved my political takes.

Zero income.

Somehow that felt worse than being underpaid. At least before, I could afford Spotify Premium.

That's not a Wi-Fipreneur. That's entertaining people with an empty bank account.

Then Tim Denning Slapped Me Through a Screen

I used to consume a lot of self-help content. Like A LOTTT. And now, because I don't, I can confidently say — no one can slap you harder than Tim Denning and Mark Manson's The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck

I read a thread where Tim said: "If you're so smart, why can't you make money online?"

S-L-A-P.

Because it was true. 250+ likes. Zero revenue. Broke again at 19. Full circle.

After analysing (stalking, respectfully) thousands of profiles, copying hundreds of posts, and using my old brain which had done 250+ gigs across designing, copywriting, and content creation, I understood what the hell I was doing wrong.

One mistake. That's all it was. One mistake that kept me a beginner for three months longer than necessary.

Fast forward to now:

6,500+ followers

10–15 leads every month

1 million+ impressions in eight months

100k+ monthly impressions on average

The #1 mistake: Not treating LinkedIn like a business channel.

"Huh, we know that." Yeah. You don't.

If you knew it, you'd be making money. You're not. So let's talk.

The Myths Keeping You Broke

Myth 1: LinkedIn Has to Be Formal

The reason most people don't take LinkedIn seriously is because they take it too seriously.

LinkedIn has a corporate reputation. That reputation is from 2020. It is dead. It does not exist anymore. Stop mourning it.

There's a difference between formal and professional. Formal is a pressed suit, obedient like bots. Professional is knowing limits, what you do, who you do it for, and how you do it.

Choose being professional.

Every time your brain says:

"I need to list credentials first."

"It's for corporates, not people like me."

"I haven't achieved enough to show up yet."

Tell it to shut the fck up. Then open a new post and write your basic introduction like you're talking to a friend.

"I design banners for LinkedIn creators, but I also rap to Central Cee."

Done. That's a start. That's more than most people do.

Start with your brain. Not AI. AI pulls from what already exists. If the data is from 2020, you get 2020. And 2020 LinkedIn is not winning in 2026.

Not a Wi-Fipreneur move: waiting until you feel "ready" to show up.

Myth 2: LinkedIn Is the new Instagram

Here's the brutal reality check most gurus won't give you.

If you're posting memes 24/7, ranting about 9-to-5 culture, performing vulnerability for sympathy, or posting 3 times a month.

You already lost. The game ended before you noticed.

You followed hundreds of people who "cracked the algorithm." You are now more confused than when you started. And you still have no idea what to post.

I've coached 25+ professionals. Worked with Indian and international clients. The number one question is always:

“What should I post?"

Here's what people are actually posting instead of building:

Memes. Breakup updates. Leadership lessons from their pet dog. Motivational quotes with sunsets.

That content doesn't build a business. It builds an audience of people who also don't know what they're doing.

Your credibility died with that motivational quote. It didn't have to.

Not a Wi-Fipreneur move: treating LinkedIn like a mood board.

So What Do You Actually Do?

In 2026, businesses aren't just creating content anymore. Content is creating businesses.

Remember when you thought it was cool to roast TikTokers? Those same TikTokers are millionaires. Distribution and visibility won. They always do.

The good news: LinkedIn is not TikTok. You don't have to lip-sync to a trending audio to get followers.

Here's what actually works. Three pillars. Non-negotiable.

• Profile

• Content

• Engagement

All three have to point at your business.

Your product, service, or skill. Everything else is decoration. And decoration doesn't pay rent.

Pillar 1: Your Profile Is a Sales Page, Not a Government Form

You are creating your LinkedIn profile like you’re filling out an application for a gas connection. Name. Education. Skills: "hardworking, team player, Microsoft Office."

Your profile is a sales page. It is an alternative to a portfolio website. Its only job — the ONLY job — is to make the right person think: "I need to talk to this person."

That's it. Nothing else.

Right now, we focus on the five sections that get seen in the first 10 seconds:

• Headline

• About section

• Featured section

• Profile picture

• Banner

Your Headline Is a Billboard. Stop Wasting It.

You got 220 characters. Most people use them to describe themselves like a Wikipedia sidebar.

Bad: Founder of a dead Instagram page | Content Writer | Helping Brands Grow | LinkedIn Enthusiast | Microsoft | Marketing | Looking for opportunities

Reading that is like watching someone nervously list every hobby at a job interview just to look multi-talented.

Multi-talented my a*s.

Good: I write LinkedIn content for founders to help them build visibility and generate revenue. 50+ clients served.

One person. One outcome. One proof point. The right person reads it and feels called out in the best way.

If you have no idea where to start, here's the formula:

"I help [SPECIFIC PERSON] get [SPECIFIC OUTCOME] without [SPECIFIC PAIN]. [CREDIBILITY]."

That's your billboard. Put it up.

Your About Section: Close Them or Lose Them

You got 2,600 characters. The first two lines are all that exist until they click "see more."

Use those two lines like your rent depends on it. Because it kind of does.

Lead with what you do, who you do it for, one proof point. List your offers. Then earn the right to tell your story.

Formula:

"I help [specific person] do [specific outcome] without [specific pain]. In the last [time], I've [proof]. Here's how:"

Then write like a human. With an opinion. Not like you're addressing a committee.

Your Featured Section Is Working While You Sleep

Or it's doing absolutely nothing. One of the two.

The worst thing you can put there: your most-liked post. Nobody cares if you got 300 likes on a meme. Every person on LinkedIn has had at least one semi-viral post. That is not a flex anymore.

Put your best converting content there. Newsletter link. Testimonial. Case study. Something that turns a lurker into a DM.

Bonus: Featured supports custom thumbnails. A simple Canva graphic beats a blank preview every time. Five minutes. Do it.

Profile Picture and Banner: Your Visual First Impression

Profile picture: Clean background. Somewhere between coat and pyjamas. Show 90% of your face. Keep it.

Profiles with a photo get 21x more profile views and 36x more messages according to LinkedIn.

Banner: Keep it plain. I'm serious.

Nobody is studying your banner as hard as you are. Design one when you have something worth flexing — big client, a number, a feature. Until then, blank is fine.

If you absolutely cannot handle blank: add what you do and who you do it for. Two brand colours.

Don't spend a weekend on this. That's a waste of time.

Pillar 2: Content Is the New Sales

A perfectly optimised profile with zero content is a shop with beautiful windows and nobody inside.

Zero income. Zero trust. Just vibes.

Content is the only asset that compounds. A post you wrote six months ago is still out there right now, working while you sleep, eat.

Let's say you're a B2B SaaS founder building an AI app for LinkedIn content. You want sign-ups, leads, users, testimonials, investors.

Your best audience is on LinkedIn.

What does your content do for you?

Introduces you and your story

Explains why you started

Covers the problems your buyers actually have

Shows how your product solves them

Shares wins, failures, and behind-the-scenes reality

This builds trust. Trust builds credibility. Credibility builds business. Business pays rent and holidays.

When you post, people engage. When they engage, their followers see it. Some of those followers stalk your last three posts and decide in 90 seconds whether you're worth following.

If there's nothing to stalk? Gone. Forever. They don't come back.

I had a genuinely good conversation with a guy on LinkedIn once. He was smart. But his feed was memes, game screenshots, and couple content. Despite knowing he was decent, I unfollowed him immediately. My feed was sh*tty every time he posted.

I don't want that for my feed. Neither does your ideal client want it for theirs.

Not a Wi-Fipreneur move: posting content your ideal client would unfollow you for.

Pick One Lane and Stay In It

I'm a LinkedIn ghostwriter and personal brand strategist. That's my lane. You will never catch me posting trending Claude prompts just because they're getting engagement this week.

Find your lane. Stay in it until the algorithm trusts you. Then stay in it some more.

Post 3–4 times a week.

LinkedIn's own data shows accounts posting 3+ times weekly grow followers 5x faster than those posting less.

Daily works if quality holds. Never sacrifice quality for consistency. But also perfectionism is procrastination. It looks productive. But it is not.

DON'T LIE TO YOURSELF.

The content mix that actually works:

40% — Educational posts. Teach what you know. Show you know things. These get saved and shared, which tells the algorithm you're worth distributing.

30% — POV/opinion posts. Have a spine. Take a side. Say something spicy. Disagree with the common belief in your space and explain why. If nobody ever disagrees with you, you're not saying anything.

20% — Case studies. Real problem. Real solution. Real result. People buy outcomes, not processes.

10% — Personality posts. The real you. The thing that makes people go, "Wait, she's an actual human." This is what turns followers into fans.

If you're a founder — talk about the exact moment you got the idea. What were you doing? Where were you sitting?

If you're a coach — talk about the problem that only a coach could've helped you solve.

Your wins. Your low weeks. The launch that flopped.

That's not ranting. That's a long-term asset called trust.

Brands that share real numbers and failed experiments see engagement rates 47% higher than those posting polished, generic updates.

Vulnerability isn't weakness. Done right, it's the whole strategy.

Before you post anything, ask:

Does this move me one inch closer to a business outcome?

More trust. More visibility to the right people. One more reason for the right person to DM me.

If the honest answer is "it just felt like something to say" that's a beginner talking. Not a Wi-Fipreneur.

Instead of asking, "what should I post today?"

Start asking "what does my business need people to understand about me today?"

A completely different question. Completely different results.

Pillar 3: Engagement Is Distribution. Not Socialising.

This took me the longest to understand because it feels completely backwards.

You think engagement means replying to comments on your own posts. That's reactive engagement. It matters but it's not where growth lives.

Proactive engagement is where LinkedIn rewards you.

Every time you leave a strong comment on someone else's post, their followers see it. If the comment is good enough, click your profile. Some follow you. Some DM you.

You borrowed their distribution. By adding real value. Legally.

This is not a hack. This is how LinkedIn was literally designed to work. Smart conversation gets rewarded. Every f*cking time.

What a good comment looks like:

Bad: "Great post! So insightful. Thanks for sharing 🙏"

This is comment-section wallpaper. Nobody reads it. LinkedIn may now actively suppress it.

Good: "This happened to me when I tried [X]. What worked instead was [Y] — which proves your point about [Z]. Have you seen this pattern too?"

That comment has a perspective. References real experience. Ask a question. Functions as a mini-post inside someone else's post. Makes their audience curious about who you are.

ENGAGE WITH BUILDERS AND BUYERS.

Connecting with 10 students yapping about their college week will not build your network. It will fill your feed with sh*tty posts and your DMs with nothing useful.

Choose who you engage with like a business owner, not a socialite.

Not a Wi-Fipreneur move: spending your engagement time in the wrong rooms.

You Don't Sell Enough. That's Why You're Broke.

You are too scared to sell. You want to be liked first. You think selling is cringe.

So you post for months. Build a following. Get decent engagement. Make zero money.

And I won't say it's a “positioning problem”. Enough of LinkedIn”gurus” have said that.

You have the “I want to stay broke” problem. Because if you don't want to, you are doing nothing like a psycho towards making money.

Here's how to sell on LinkedIn without feeling like a used car salesman:

1. Sell through stories, not announcements.

I mention my offer 3-4 times a week. I generate 10-15 leads every month. Blend the offer naturally in your posts. Not “3 lessons I learned while building a business as a GenZ” and then adding book 1:1.

What the hell does 3 lessons have to do with 1:1?

Mention your buyers’ problems and give your solutions.

2. Make your offer impossible to miss.

Headline. About section. Featured section. Newsletter link. All pointing at one clear thing you do and one clear way to work with you. If someone has to guess what you sell, they won't buy. They'll just follow you forever and never pay you.

3. Use CTAs like a business owner.

Not every post needs one. But when it does — be specific. "If you're spending more than 5 hours a week on LinkedIn content and getting no leads, DM me 'content' and I'll tell you exactly what I'd fix first." Specific CTAs convert 3x better than "let me know your thoughts."

4. Post case studies. Regularly.

Real numbers. Real before and after. This is the highest converting content type on LinkedIn and the most underused one simultaneously. People buy outcomes. Show them the outcome.

5. Follow up.

Most sales don't close in one DM. If someone engaged with your post, liked your comment, or viewed your profile — reach out. Not with a pitch. With a genuine opener about what they resonated with. Let the conversation happen first.

6. Use the Featured section.

It's underrated. But I won't let you ignore that. Add your website, Newsletter or whatsoever that leads to your product/offer/service.

Keep that thing updated.

Selling is service. If what you offer genuinely helps people and you're too scared to talk about it, you are an a*s.

I mean who the hell is going to talk about your offer.

YOUUUUUU.

You're your salesperson.

Stop whispering about what you do. Say it out loud. Repeatedly. With proof attached. Like a Wi-Fipreneur who has rent to pay and a brand to build.

The Whole Strategy.

There is no secret algorithm. LinkedIn is a people platform. You talk about real problems. You engage with real people. You show up with a real point of view.

The only thing to "hack" is your audience, understanding what they need, writing with clarity, and building a skill that solves a problem. Nobody cares what language of code you know. They care if you can build a website, or an app for them.

The internet gave everyone WiFi and a platform. That means the only edge left is audacity. The willingness to show up before you feel ready, say something real before you feel qualified, and sell before you feel famous.

So, the #1 mistake that keeps you stuck as a beginner forever on LinkedIn is not taking LinkedIn as a business channel.

The solution: Target your buyers, that's literally the 99% strategy.

Build your profile around your buyers.

Your content about buyers (not you).

Engage with your buyers

Sell more than feels comfortable. You're probably still underselling.

You reached the end. You are such a LEGEND.🌟

Now stop crying over algorithms. Start building your profile.

Yes, I know the irony. But stay with me.

LinkedIn isn't what you think it is.

LinkedIn is a professional social network that started as a professional network platform and online resume. You'd list your experience, connect with colleagues, and maybe update it when you were job hunting. People would post things like "5 tips to be a good leader" and motivational quotes inspired by the uncles sending morning texts on WhatsApp.

And somehow, that worked for quite a few years.

However, with the rise of Instagram, Reels, TikTok, YouTube, and the Gen Z wave coming in, things changed drastically. Content creation became a core feature of every social platform. LinkedIn was no exception.

So now, LinkedIn isn't what you think.

It's a content platform, a sales channel, and a personal branding machine, where over a billion users are simultaneously winning, learning, and "humbled and grateful." Executives, freelancers, founders, and freshers, all on one feed, all performing their best professional self, all fighting the same algorithm for the same eight seconds of somebody's scroll.

I'm not here to debate whether that's good or bad. I'm here to tell you what it's quietly doing to your brain while you scroll it before you've even had breakfast.

The Trap Looks Like Ambition

When I started posting on LinkedIn almost seven months ago, all I wanted was to grow. Because we crave numbers. There's no lie there.

So I did what every beginner does. I followed every LinkedIn coach I could find. And they told me a hundred different, contradictory things, with the confidence of people reading from a teleprompter only they could see.

Post at 8AM on Tuesdays. Use 3 hashtags, not 5. Carousels get more reach. No wait, text posts win now. No wait, polls. Actually, video is back, apparently it never left.

Then there's the "I grew to 50K followers in six months" crowd. The ones running frameworks with names like The Hook Value CTA Trinity, which, if you strip the branding, is essentially a haiku with a sales pitch attached. People colour coding content calendars in six different shades of productivity cosplay. Rewriting the same headline eleven times like it's a hostage negotiation.

And I know you do this too. Or you're avoiding LinkedIn entirely because the sheer admin of it all feels like too much. Both are the same trap.

Meanwhile, somewhere out there, one person posts a meme at 11PM with zero strategy and it goes viral. And you sit there thinking, what am I doing wrong?

Here's the actual answer: nothing. You're just doing too much of the wrong kind of right.

Because somewhere in all that optimisation, the spreadsheets, the hook formulas, the eleventh headline rewrite, the thing that made you interesting in the first place started fading. The opinion. The voice. The version of you that doesn't sound like it was generated by a content calendar.

You can feel it, can't you?

You're not creating anymore. You're decorating a template and calling it a personality.

And you don't even know it yet.

Nobody Understands The Algorithm. Nobody.

Here's something the LinkedIn growth industry desperately does not want you to hear.

Nobody understands the algorithm.

Not the coaches. Not the consultants. Not the guy selling a $150 course called "Crack The LinkedIn Code" with a thumbnail of him pointing at a graph that's definitely going up and to the right, possibly drawn in Canva five minutes before the ad launched.

I've worked across Instagram, X, and YouTube. Grown profiles to 20K+ followers. Generated 100M+ impressions across platforms. On LinkedIn alone, I've written hundreds of posts for founders, consultants, and executives across industries. And I'll tell you this with full confidence:

Anyone claiming they've cracked the algorithm is doing their best Kim Kardashian fake phone call impression. Convincing. Completely made up.

LinkedIn has publicly overhauled its algorithm at least four times in the last three years. Reach can swing wildly, sometimes by huge margins, quarter to quarter, with zero official explanation from the platform. LinkedIn itself has said its ranking system is "continuously evolving," which is corporate speak for "honestly, we're not 100% sure either, please stop asking."

And yet you're out here rearranging your entire content strategy every single time someone posts a reach screenshot with a caption that starts with "I'm not bragging, but."

Here's the question worth actually sitting with: if the algorithm changed tomorrow, would your audience disappear with it?

If the answer is yes, you don't have an audience. You have an algorithm dependency. A long distance situationship with a system that owes you nothing and changes its mind every quarter.

You're posting before breakfast because some coach said that's the "best" time, and somewhere along the way, you stopped being a creator and became staff for a system you don't even get paid by.

The Wins On LinkedIn Are Largely Fake

You've seen them. You've felt your stomach drop reading them.

"Just closed a $1500 deal. Grateful and humbled."

"Six figures in three months. Here's exactly how I did it."

"Clients are now coming to ME. Here's the shift I made."

And there it is, that quiet, creeping panic. The why isn't this happening for me feeling that sends you back to rewriting your profile at midnight like it's the headline that's been holding you back, not the math.

Here's what I've actually watched happen across dozens of freelancers and consultants I've spoken to.

The performance of being booked, busy, and in demand has quietly become more important than actually being those things. The metric has replaced the milestone.

When I was a broke college student hunting for internships, every single profile in my feed was "thrilled to announce" something. Later, when you'd actually reach out, you'd find out the internship was unpaid and they'd been picked from a pool of 300 applicants for a role with no stipend and a certificate as the only currency. That's not an achievement. That's a crowd.

When I started freelancing, I came across a guy claiming to earn ₹2 lakh a month. I reached out, genuinely hoping to learn something. I asked how he landed his clients. His answer? "It's just for engagement."

Sir. What exactly is anyone supposed to do with that kind of engagement? Frame it?

Most LinkedIn content is recycled advice claiming original thought. And the wildest part, we still fall for the equivalent of pictures with rented Lamborghins. Yes, I know exactly what I just said, and no, I'm not taking it back.

There's data floating around suggesting posts built around "overcoming struggle" narratives get roughly three times more engagement than straightforward ones, regardless of whether the struggle actually happened the way it's described. LinkedIn has gamified vulnerability so efficiently that people are now performing breakthroughs they haven't even had yet. It's method acting, but for your career.

Everyone is winning. Everyone just closed something. Everyone is on an "incredible journey," usually one that started exactly 90 days ago, suspiciously aligned with whatever course they just bought.

And you're sitting there wondering what you're doing wrong.

You're not doing anything wrong. You're just not performing hard enough. And honestly, that's a good thing. That means you still have a working moral compass.

Most of what you're seeing is, gently put, a lie. Or at minimum, a heavily filtered highlight reel pretending to be a documentary.

The Platform Is Quietly Replacing Your Circle

This is the part that should actually concern you.

LinkedIn didn't just change how content spreads. It changed who you're surrounded by, and that's a much bigger deal than a reach drop.

It used to be network based. Your posts reached people who actually knew you, colleagues, classmates, people with real context for who you are outside the caption.

Now it's persona based.

LinkedIn watches everything. What you post, how long you hover over a slide, what you save, what you engage with at 11PM when you're scrolling half asleep instead of sleeping like a functioning adult. And from that, it decides who you are, then quietly rebuilds your entire social environment around that decision.

Your real network gets phased out, one algorithm update at a time. Strangers who "match your persona" get phased in. You didn't choose these people. A system you've never met chose them for you, based on data you never consciously agreed to hand over.

And slowly, so slowly you won't notice it happening, the worldview of your feed becomes your worldview. The metrics other people celebrate become the metrics you start chasing. The version of success that goes viral becomes the version you start wanting for yourself, even if it has nothing to do with the life you actually want.

You didn't change your values. LinkedIn just changed what you saw every single day until the new values started feeling like yours. That's not networking. That's a slow personality transplant with a notification bell.

So What's The Way Out?

Here's the one thing every person who wins long term on LinkedIn has in common.

The algorithm is irrelevant to them.

They didn’t crack this, nobody does, we already established that. But because they built something the algorithm has no power over: an audience that looks for them by name, not by trend.

People who'd follow them to a different platform, a newsletter, a group chat, a different decade if they had to. People who showed up for the person, not the post format.

That's the actual game. Not the hook formula. Not the 8AM Tuesday slot. Not the eleventh headline rewrite.

Build the kind of voice that survives an algorithm change, because it was never depending on the algorithm to begin with.
