With the latest major updates to Coffee Inc 2 and Coffee Inc 2+, we’ve introduced a tutorial for first-time players.

For years, a guided tutorial has been one of the most requested features. Ironically, it was also one of the features we intentionally chose not to add.

Why We Didn’t Have a Tutorial

From the beginning, Coffee Inc 2 has been designed to simulate the realities of running a business.

In the real world, there is no step-by-step guide telling you exactly what to do. Entrepreneurs learn through observation, experimentation, successes, and failures. We wanted players to experience a small part of that journey.

That sense of uncertainty is also what makes your first successful business so rewarding. Discovering how the systems work - and eventually seeing your company grow - is part of the experience we wanted to create. If the game simply instructed players what to do at every step, it would take away much of that feeling and, more importantly, wouldn’t accurately reflect the nature of entrepreneurship.

Why Now?

Last month, we launched Coffee Inc 2+ on Apple Arcade.

The launch exceeded our expectations, and we’ve received a tremendous amount of feedback from players around the world.

It also highlighted an important difference between our audiences.

Players who purchase Coffee Inc 2 are often already interested in business simulation games. Since it’s a paid app, many take the time to research the game before buying it and generally know what kind of experience they’re looking for.

Apple Arcade players, however, discover games very differently. Because the game is included with their subscription, many try it on a whim, including players who may be completely new to business simulation games. For them, the original opening could feel unnecessarily intimidating.

To make those first few minutes more welcoming, we’ve finally introduced a tutorial.

Rather than walking players through every decision, your secretary simply introduces the core mechanics - advancing weeks, opening your first cafe, expanding to new cities, and navigating the interface. The tutorial explains how to play, but it deliberately avoids telling you how to succeed. Discovering the strategy is still entirely up to you.

Turkish Language Support

This update also adds Turkish language support.

Both Coffee Inc 2 and Coffee Inc 2+ have enjoyed an enthusiastic community in Turkey, and we’re delighted to finally support Turkish on our platform.

Who knows - perhaps one day we’ll even bring one of Turkey’s beautiful cities, such as Istanbul, into the game.

Thanks to both longtime Coffee Inc players and new Apple Arcade subscribers, Coffee Inc is now reaching more players around the world than ever before.

We greatly appreciate all of the feedback we’ve received. This update includes several gameplay improvements and bug fixes, and we’d like to share some of the highlights.

Bankruptcy Rule Changes

The biggest change in this release is how bankruptcy is handled.

Previously, a company would immediately declare bankruptcy as soon as its cash balance became negative. While simple, this often resulted in otherwise healthy companies failing because of a temporary cash shortage caused by a large fine, dividend payment, loan repayment, or other one-time event.

This behavior was not only frustrating for players, but also unrealistic compared to how businesses operate in the real world.

With this update, companies now enter a four-week insolvency period before bankruptcy is declared.

During this period, you have an opportunity to restore a positive cash balance and continue operating. You may choose to sell assets, borrow additional funds, raise capital, or take other actions to recover. If your cash balance remains negative after four weeks, the company will still be forced into bankruptcy.

A red warning indicator will appear on the company button during insolvency, displaying your current cash position and the number of weeks remaining before bankruptcy.

It’s important to note that insolvency is not equivalent to Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States. Existing debts, fines, and other obligations remain fully in effect. No liabilities are reduced or forgiven. Recovery still requires active management and financial discipline.

In addition, quarterly dividend payments will be automatically suspended while the company is insolvent. Once the company returns to a positive cash balance, dividend payments will resume automatically.

Finally, auto-save is automatically disabled during the insolvency protection period. This allows you to return to the last healthy auto-save if your recovery attempt is unsuccessful. Auto-save will resume once the company is no longer insolvent.

Antitrust Fine Improvements

Another area we wanted to improve was antitrust fines.

Previously, antitrust fines were based primarily on the city where the violation occurred. While a company large enough to dominate a market is clearly significant in size, there can still be substantial differences between companies operating in the same city.

To better reflect real-world antitrust enforcement, future fines are now calculated as a percentage of the company’s trailing twelve-month revenue, similar to approaches used by regulators in the United States and Europe.

Unfortunately, fines that have already been issued cannot be adjusted retroactively, but future penalties should now feel more realistic and proportional.

Bug Fixes

We’ve also fixed several reported issues, including:

• Fixed a slider control issue in stock trading.

• Fixed fines continuing to accrue after the politics feature was disabled. Fines will no longer accumulate while the feature is turned off. However, disabling politics only pauses the process; if you re-enable it, the countdown will resume.

• Fixed an issue where stores and assets could occasionally disappear after loading a saved game.

• Fixed crashes related to viewing bank loans and issuing stock grants.

• Various additional stability improvements and minor bug fixes.

Available Now

Coffee Inc 2 Version 15.4 and Coffee Inc 2+ Version 1.1 are now available.

Feature-wise, both versions remain identical.

Originally released as a small independent business simulation game, Coffee Inc 2 gradually grew far beyond what I initially imagined. Over the years, players around the world continued building coffee companies, competing against rivals, and supporting the game through countless updates.

Coffee Inc 2 originally launched with only seven cities. Over time, the world has expanded to include 13 cities, 2 resorts, and 7 plantation origins - totaling 22 destinations across the globe.

As the world grew, the airport navigation needed to evolve. Version 15.0 introduced a streamlined system designed to better support long-term expansion. Some longtime CI2 players had questions about this change, so here’s how it works today.

Destinations Are Missing!

Before Version 15.0, all cities were listed directly in the destination menu.

In the new design, you must first tap the Atlas map to select a region: Americas, EMEA, or APAC. Once a region is selected, destinations within that region will appear.

As destinations continue to grow across all regions, this structure allows the system to scale more cleanly over time.

How to Reach Origins and Resorts

Major cities have direct flights between one another.

However, plantation origins and resorts do not offer direct flights from every city. To reach them, you must first travel to a major city within the same region. From there, you can take a regional flight to the plantation or resort.

For example:

To visit Blue Mountain, Jamaica, first fly to an Americas city such as San Francisco or New York. Then, take a regional flight to Jamaica.

This system is designed to reflect real-world air travel, where smaller regional airports may require connecting flights.

Private Jet?

Players who purchased the Private Jet package can fly directly to any destination without mileage limits.

For consistency, you still select a region via the Atlas map first. However, once selected, you are free to travel directly to any cities, origins and resorts in that region.

How Are New Cities Chosen?

This is a different topic, but it’s a destination-related question we receive often - so we’d like to answer it here.

“How do you decide which cities to add?”
“Can you add XYZ city?”

We truly appreciate these requests and suggestions.

The most recent city we added was Madrid, Spain. We are currently working on future expansions, but how do we actually decide which cities to build?

There are several criteria we consider. Once those are met, the final decision is often subjective.

A. The City Must Be Globally Recognizable and Visually Distinct

We aim to create cities that feel authentic and immersive. That means the city itself must be well-known, culturally significant, and visually attractive.

Iconic architecture and recognizable landmarks are especially important. Since we recreate cities as realistically as possible, strong architectural identity helps bring them to life in-game.

B. 3D Map Availability

When building a city, we closely follow the real-world layout - streets, districts, and major buildings.

Google Maps’ 3D view is an essential tool in this process. It allows us to study city structure and recreate it faithfully inside the game.

Unfortunately, not all cities currently have usable 3D map data available. In some cases, this is due to limited mapping coverage or national security restrictions.

For example, we would love to add more Asian cities such as Seoul or Bangkok. However, many cities in Asia still lack sufficient 3D mapping data. We experimented with using only 2D references in the past, but the results did not meet our quality standards - so we decided to wait.

C. Where Our Players Are

We also consider where Coffee Inc players are located.

From sales data, we know which countries have strong player bases. When possible, we prioritize adding cities in regions where many players live.

So if your country is not yet represented - help us grow there! The more players we have in a region, the stronger the case becomes for adding its cities.

What Was Happening

In rare cases, specific interior arrangements unintentionally blocked customer or staff movement. When this occurred, store animation could fail and cause instability.

What’s New

We’ve added an additional overall layout validation step on top of the existing checks.

This new validation ensures that:

• Customer paths remain accessible

• Store staff can move properly

• Store animation runs safely and smoothly

You can continue designing your interiors as usual. The system simply adds one more safeguard to ensure layouts function correctly.

Existing Custom Interiors

If you already have custom interiors:

• Your layouts will be validated automatically.

• If a layout does not meet the updated movement guidelines, you’ll see an alert icon.

• Store animation will be temporarily turned off until the layout is adjusted.

Important:

• Business operations are not affected.

• Revenue, customers, and store performance continue as normal.

• Only the visual store animation is disabled.

Invalid layout templates also cannot be used for new stores until they are updated.

No Automatic Changes

This update will not automatically modify or remove any of your interior designs.

Even if a layout is now considered invalid:

• Your business continues running normally.

• You may leave the layout as-is if you prefer.

• Animation will resume once the design is adjusted to meet the updated guidelines.

This major release introduces a new feature: Coffee Plantation Business.

Until now, your company could only source beans from roasters or create blends using commercial beans. With this update, you can finally grow your own coffee beans across seven different regions.

You’ll manage a new division dedicated to plantations, handle bean inventories, create multiple custom blends, and even invest in coffee breeding - discovering entirely new varieties of coffee plants through research and innovation.

New Places: Plantation Origins

Until now, the game has featured 13 cities and 2 resort locations. With this update, a new type of region is introduced: Plantation Origins. The term “Origin” comes from the coffee industry, referring to the birthplace of coffee beans. These areas are typically larger than a single city and are rural regions where many of the world’s most famous coffees are grown.

You can now visit these seven regions, purchase plantations, and cultivate your own coffee beans. The seven origins are:

1. Minas Gerais, Brazil 🇧🇷

2. Medellin, Colombia 🇨🇴

3. Blue Mountain, Jamaica 🇯🇲

4. Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia 🇪🇹

5. Nyeri, Kenya 🇰🇪

6. Buon Ma Thuot, Vietnam 🇻🇳

7. Takengon, Indonesia 🇮🇩

Each region has its own distinct characteristics - land value, plantation size, yield, climate, harvest season, and available coffee plant varieties. You can focus on a single origin or diversify your investments across multiple regions - it’s entirely up to your strategy.

Just remember: there are no direct flights to these remote origins. You’ll usually need to travel through a major city on the same continent to reach them.

New Feature: Coffee Bean Inventory

Your coffee production is now directly tied to your bean supply. Every cup your stores sell ultimately depends on the beans you’ve secured. With the new inventory system, you can manage multiple blends that combine your own harvested beans with commercial ones to meet demand across your coffee shops.

You can also develop several versions of company blends, each with its own formula and purpose - perhaps a premium “single-origin” blend or a cost-efficient everyday mix. Simply set the priority order, and your stores will automatically use the highest-priority blend available in stock.

Wholesale Market

Each origin follows its own harvest season, occurring once or twice a year depending on climate. You can store harvested beans for up to a harvest season, but unused inventories won’t last forever. When the time comes, any remaining beans are automatically sold on the wholesale market.

Wholesale prices typically sit between your production cost and retail value, giving you a modest profit while keeping the market realistic. Planning your production, blending strategy, and timing around these cycles will be key to running a sustainable plantation business.

New Division: Supply Chain

As your company expands its plantations across the world, managing each one individually becomes increasingly difficult. The new Supply Chain (SC) division allows you to centrally manage your plantations and coffee bean inventories from offices.

Having the SC division oversee plantation operations reduces weekly running costs by coordinating tasks centrally and avoiding frequent travel to each region. However, this efficiency comes with its own cost - the division requires office staff and HR expenses to operate.

New Frontier: Coffee Bean Breeding

The Supply Chain division also opens the door to an entirely new business frontier: coffee bean breeding. Through R&D investment, your company can develop new coffee plant varieties - engineered to create the ideal beans for your brand.

Each origin already grows region-specific plants suited to its environment, but breeding allows you to go beyond what nature offers. Coffee beans in the game have five sensory traits - aroma, acidity, body, bitterness and flavor - while coffee plants have five agricultural traits - lifespan, yield, stability, weather resistance and pest resistance.

By experimenting with breeding combinations, you can create the ultimate coffee plant - one that delivers both exceptional beans and efficient production for your stores.

New Accounting: Plantation CapEx

For those interested in accounting and finance, the plantation business introduces a new financial dimension. It’s a capital-intensive operation, where many investments are recorded as CapEx (capital expenditure) rather than immediate expenses. Inventories are also reflected on your balance sheet as assets.

Running Cost and Equipment Depreciation

Every plantation incurs a weekly running cost (labor, fertilizer and maintenance) and equipment depreciation. These costs are not treated as regular expenses; instead, they’re booked as work-in-progress (WIP) assets under CapEx. When the harvest season arrives, those accumulated costs are converted into tangible inventory assets. Later, as you use your harvested beans in coffee shops, the corresponding asset values decrease.

The bean unit cost (price per pound) is therefore determined by the total running cost plus equipment depreciation for the season, divided by the total pounds harvested.

Early-Stage Challenge

Here’s where things get interesting: when you plant new trees, they don’t produce beans for the first few years. During that time, your weekly costs continue to accumulate. Once the first harvest finally arrives, all those years of capitalized costs are realized at once - making your early-year beans feel extremely expensive. That financial reality is faithfully simulated in this game as well.

Last But Not Least…

It’s been quite a while since the last major update, and I want to thank everyone for all the feedback - both positive and negative - across different channels. Every comment, suggestion, and even criticism reminds me how much Coffee Inc has meant to people, and that means a lot to me.

So, where are things headed? Since late 2024, I’ve shifted my main focus toward a new game project. Progress is steady, but this is by far the most ambitious work I’ve ever tackled - its scale, complexity, and sheer volume of code, graphics, and UI all surpass anything from Coffee Inc 1 or 2. The mountain is higher than ever, but I’m climbing it one step at a time.

In the meantime, I continue to receive so much encouragement from Coffee Inc players around the world. Even though I once planned to sunset the game, it’s hard to let go of something that so many people love. The new game isn’t part of the Coffee Inc series (no, it’s not Coffee Inc 3), and it doesn’t share the same codebase, but Coffee Inc 2 still deserves to live on a little longer. I can’t promise what’s next, but let’s see how Coffee Inc 2 continues to evolve over time.

Madrid is a breathtaking city filled with monumental buildings, and its grandeur made it a challenge to complete the graphics for its iconic landmarks and scenic views. As a local and unique detail to Madrid, you’ll also find a Repsol gas station!

Coffee Inc 2 originally launched in November 2021 with just seven cities. Since then, thanks to the amazing support from fans worldwide, the game has reached players in over 150 countries. Some of the most requested cities include Miami, Dallas, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Mexico City, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Kyoto, Seoul, Singapore, Bangkok, Manila, Jakarta, Dubai, Istanbul, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Brussels, Warsaw, and Lisbon - just to name a few.

This November marks the third anniversary of Coffee Inc 2. Since the initial release, we’ve made 14 major updates, adding new cities and features. At the same time, we’ve been working on a new project. With this release, it’s bittersweet to share that major updates for Coffee Inc 2 will be coming to an end. However, we’re thrilled to announce that a new game is under development, with a planned release in the coming years.

Thank you all for your continued reviews and feedback. Although we can’t respond to every message personally, please know that we’re listening. It might be disappointing to see fewer updates for Coffee Inc 2, but rest assured, we’re incorporating many of your suggestions into the next game - while staying true to the Coffee Inc DNA. Will it be Coffee Inc 3? Or something entirely new? Let’s find out together in the future!

A Business Line of Credit, also known as a "Revolving Credit Facility," allows your company to access funds up to a pre-set limit whenever needed. Traditional bank loans require an application and a waiting period for approval. In contrast, with a Line of Credit, you can access funds instantly once it is set up. You are charged interest only on the amount you withdraw, and this continues until the principal is repaid.

This versatile financial product is designed to help your business manage fluctuating cash flow requirements effectively, whether for making fine payments, investments, or mergers and acquisitions.

To establish a line of credit, simply visit any bank branch within the game. The bank will annually reassess your credit limit and interest rate based on your company's financial performance.

Please note that the interest rate is variable and tied to the national prime rate of the country in which the bank branch operates. As central banks adjust their prime rates, your weekly payments may vary accordingly.

Similar to business loans, you can manage all established lines of credit through your Financial department, provided you have an office.

Now, instead of an immediate lump sum, fines will be divided into four manageable quarterly installments. This change allows you to plan financially for future payments. Additionally, your secretary will give you a reminder a few weeks before each payment is due.

You can also visit the city's lobbying firm to view detailed information about the fines, including their amounts and due dates. If your finances allow, you have the option to settle these fines in advance.

For those with a Financial department, it’s now possible to track all fine-related charges across different cities.

Furthermore, we've introduced a new "Business Line of Credit" feature to enhance your liquidity and help prevent the financial strain of sudden fines from leading to bankruptcy. This update aims to make financial management within the game more realistic and user-friendly.

First off, what is depreciation?

Depreciation is an accounting method used to allocate the cost of a tangible or physical asset over its useful life. For instance, when you open a store in the game, you incur construction costs upfront for the exterior, interior, and equipment. These costs are recorded as assets on the balance sheet, despite being paid for upfront and captured under investing activities in the cash flow statement. As these assets are consumed over time — through wear and tear, breakage, etc. — we allocate the upfront cost over time in the income statement and balance sheet. This may make you feel discrepancies between net income and actual cash balance in the game, reminding of the need to distinguish between accounting practices and actual cash flows.

In this game, almost all tangible assets are assigned a five-year depreciation period, with a residual value set at 25% of the initial price. For example, if you purchase an espresso machine for $10,000, it will be worth $2,500 after five years. Depreciation cost is recorded weekly, calculated as $7,500 ÷ (52 weeks × 5 years) = $28.85, over the five years.

While in reality, some assets have much longer depreciation periods (e.g., heavy machinery, buildings) and others shorter (e.g., electronic devices, cell phones), the game simplifies this with a uniform five-year period for ease of calculation.

Step by Step Example

Let’s walk through a hypothetical scenario. Below, “week 1” shows the company’s books at the start, with an initial $10,000 in cash and common stock reflected on the balance sheet.

Week 1

In week 2, the company invests $10,000 in equipment. On the balance sheet, this amount is reclassified from cash to property, plant, and equipment (PP&E). This investment is recorded under investing activities in the cash flow statement, with no immediate expense reflected on the income statement.

Week 2

Come week 3, depreciation begins. A $29 reduction is applied to the property’s value, accounted for in the balance sheet under “Accumulated Depreciation (AD).” This reduces the original property value cumulatively in AD, now showing AD = -$29. To balance this, an equivalent deduction is made from retained earnings. The income statement reflects this depreciation as an expense. Given that depreciation does not trigger a cash outflow, it’s excluded from operating activities in the cash flow statement.

Week 3

By week 4, suppose the company earns revenue of $1,000. After subtracting the depreciation expense ($29), the net income is $971. This amount boosts retained earnings on the balance sheet. Meanwhile, the cash flow statement records $1,000 under operating activities, since depreciation does not affect cash flow, leading to an increase in cash on the balance sheet.

Week 4

Thus, at the end of week 4, the balance sheet remains balanced (assets = liabilities + equity), showcasing how depreciation impacts the game’s financials.

Software Development Costs?

An interesting aspect of cash outflow in this game involves mobile app development costs, treated as “capital expenditure (CapEx).” This means the investment is considered an asset, not an immediate expense, and is depreciated over five years. Although IT developer salaries are recorded as salary expenses in the game, it’s worth noting that many real-world high-tech companies actually capitalize such costs as well.

Closing a Store with Property Value

Upon closing a store, you must dispose of properties like tables, chairs, equipment, and interior decorations. In the game, all properties are sold at their residual value, regardless of current market value. Therefore, if you close a store immediately after opening, you must sell the properties at 25% of the initial outlay, recording 75% of the investment as a “restructuring cost” expense. If a store is closed after more than five years, no restructuring cost is incurred, as the properties are fully depreciated.

We updated most of the city maps to accommodate universities across the globe. You can now find a university in each city (except for Rome, sorry!).

Up until this lease, your fortune was mostly used for yourself: buying stocks, real estates, sports franchises, luxury cars, and auction antiques… With university donations, you can now contribute your fortune back to society. After all, your enormous success came from it.

Our latest release unveils the addition of Sydney, Australia, marking the 12th city in the game and a significant expansion into a new continent.

The bustling Oceania region, including Australia and New Zealand, boasts numerous Coffee Inc enthusiasts. With the introduction of Sydney in the game, we aim to vividly capture the essence of this vibrant city and offer players an immersive experience that mirrors the greatness of Sydney.

These exclusive auction houses are located in four vibrant cities: New York, London, Paris, and Tokyo. They host these captivating events once a year, so be sure to keep a close eye on their schedules in the newspapers.

Every so often, your acquaintances might approach you with offers to exchange antiques for money, especially if you’re known for your wealth. While most of these offers may turn out to be counterfeit, there’s always the chance of stumbling upon a truly rare and authentic treasure. So, why not take a chance and see where fortune leads you?

Similar to the dynamics in the real economy, the value of antiques can experience significant fluctuations contingent upon the state of the game’s economy. It’s a prudent strategy to consider acquiring these items during economic downturns and subsequently selling them when the market is thriving.

In this release, 11th city was added to the game: Rome, Italy. As the birthplace of espresso and its machine, the Coffee Inc 2 already has many enthusiastic Italian customers.

It’s an honor to have this historic and magnificent city in the game.

By the way, you can also observe Vatican City on the map.

This release added more contents to existing features. New resort town, Jackson Hole (Wyoming, US), was introduced. Flights are available from all US cities. A private jet can fly from anywhere directly.

New pro sports leagues and franchises were also added. In addition to existing baseball and football/soccer, the game now has basketball and American football. Please look for stadiums in US cities.

In this major release, a new kind of location, “Resort Town,” is introduced. Today, the game already has ten big cities; New York, London, Tokyo, Paris, Berlin …, but resort towns are different in that:

1. It is much smaller.

2. It doesn’t have coffee shop tenants or office spaces.

3. Instead, there are many vacation homes (mansions) in town. You can purchase them like other real estate in cities. Many vacation homes can also be demolished and rebuilt.

4. Some luxury shops are available in resort towns. As a start, there is a luxury car dealer open. With your personal wealth, you can purchase luxury cars in the game.

5. In order to distinguish towns from cities, their icons are hexagon shaped, while big cities remain circle icons.

French Riviera (Côte d’Azur) is the first resort town in the game. Direct flights are available only from European cities. If you have a private jet, you can fly there from anywhere in the world.

New version 6.0 was released this month. It comes with the 10th city, Seattle, USA. Seattle becomes the 4th US city in the game.

As many of you know, Starbucks Coffee opened their first coffee shop in Seattle in 1971. It’s honorable to have the city in our game.

Currently, each city has at least one sports team and its stadium. Go to the stadium and click a “Stadium” marker. You can see the franchise’s standings, players, uniforms, and financials. The Coffee Inc 1 (CI1) has sports franchises features, but they’re limited. In the Coffee Inc 2 (CI2), you can trade/transfer players to strengthen your team. Each player has career statistics, and the feature has much more depth.

Unlike the CI1 which allows a partial ownership of franchises, you need to become a sole owner of the franchise (100% ownership) in the CI2. Additionally, the company cannot buy franchises. You personally need to invest in franchises. And franchises cannot go public. They are all privately owned.

As a start, baseball and football (soccer) are available. In the future, American football and basketball may be coming. Stay tuned!

Many users have requested a lot of cities around the world. Based on their feedback, we’ll continue to add new cities.

Slider Button is back

This release also comes with a slider button, which was used heavily in Coffee Inc 1. In order to trade a significant amount of shares, the current plus/minus button was tedious. A slider control will enable you to trade shares much quicker. We hope this will relieve some of your pains.
