I’ll be really honest. I don’t like Substack “growth experts.” I believe they have it completely backwards, every single one of them.

The Things I Wish I Never Touched

1. A $25,000 mastermind for business that turned out to be a full-blown lady cult. Matching outfits at the “retreat“, a fearless leader with her own catchphrases, grown women crying because they didn’t get called on. I didn’t learn a single thing. The entire curriculum was just: buy the next thing the fearless leader is selling.

2. A $300 Fivver website builder who ghosted me for two weeks. When the site finally landed, it looked like it was built by a kindergartener with a comic Sands addiction. I found out it was unusable 24 hours before my launch. I was rebuilding my entire funnel at 2 AM that night.

3. $40,000 in Webinar ads. Zero, and I mean zero, return. I watch my money disappear while the 24-year-old Media buyer told me to “trust the process“. 4. A “fancy“ $600 per month CRM. Everyone swore I needed in month one. I paid for the upgraded tier which had 100+ template for landing pages, connected to a calendar six months out for onboarding calls, basically it had a lot of fancy things in the upgraded tier, and I never want to use more than 10% of it. Meanwhile, I sold my first $100K using a stripe link, PayPal link, and a word document. I emailed people like it was a year 2000.

5. A $10,000 one on one Coach who spent every session picking my brain. I’d show up to learn and leave having explained my own strategy back to her and watching her nod and write it down. She was taking notes on my own freaking strategy!! By session 4 I realized I was being coached out of $10K by someone less experienced than me.

6. A $2000 “premium“ logo package just for PNG and vector files. What I got back look like complete garbage. My friend sketched a rough concept for free, and the guy at FedEx and I used his computer to render it into a clean logo for a whopping $66.21 to be exact. That $66.$.21 sketches a logo I still use today. The $2000 one never saw daylight.

Things I Don’t Regret For A Single Second

1. Gmass. $20 a month. Even if your email list is just a spreadsheet right now, it lets you mass send without it feeling like a mass send to the people on the other side. Every email reads like I wrote it to one person, because in way, I did. Talking to my people instead of blasting them is the single biggest reason our conversion rate stays high, every single time we send.

2. A $10,000 networking event in Dubai plus the 4K flights to get there, all on a whim because a friend suggested it was the event of the year for entrepreneurs. I almost didn’t go. However, I’m glad I did. At the time I met a business partner who would help generate nearly half million dollars in revenue in collaboration, and four relationships with clients that have turned into multiple seven figures combined. I paid $14K to be in the right room. It’s paid for itself over and over again since.

Here’s my actual philosophy on this, and it’s the opposite of what everyone tells you. You don’t need a $25K mastermind. You need a coach who teaches you one specific thing and then you go do the thing yourself. What you should always invest in is being in the room, wherever the right people are, because the room either mentors you forward or hands you a client or the partner who changes everything. It’s not about what you know. It’s about who’s in the room with you.

3. My personal assistant. Hands-down, the best tire I’ve ever made. I trust her with everything, on my calendar, my inbox, opportunities coming in, decisions that don’t need to reach me at all. She’s the gate and the filter, protecting my time and my creativity, so I actually have space to think, create, and deliver. She saves me a good 30+ hours a week. I genuinely believe more money has been made from having her than from almost any other single investment in business.

4.My digital notebook, the paper tablet. $799. Sounds indulgent until you understand what it actually does. It keeps me off the internet, no doom scrolling, no notifications, just a blank page wherever I go. And when I’m actually creative, that’s when the real money happens. One time I took a walk with that pad and built an entire product from scratch, from a single idea to $300,000 in it’s first iteration—- delivered about 26 days after I scribbled on the pad. That’s not even the biggest number I’ve seen come from a walk in a notebook, but that’s a story for another day.

5.A Tempur-Pedic ActiveBreathe mattress. $8000. Felt a little ridiculous at the time. But being sharp, clear, and not foggy is the actual engine behind everything else on this list. With clients around the world and genuinely unpredictable schedules, this means whenever I hit that bed, an hour early, or at 2AM….I’m asleep, fast. There’s no dollar amount you can put on being able to actually think clearly. This is as close as it gets.

6. A registered trademark. Felt like a formality, and unnecessary box to check when I had 100 more urgent things to spend money on. Later, when the business multiplied past what I could’ve ever imagined, that trademark was the only thing standing between us and losing the name entirely. If I had had not done it early, before I thought it mattered, I would be sitting here crying.

7.A country club and golf membership. Cost: let’s just say… Undisclosed. If I put the actual number here, I think there might be a few people that would go berserk, and honestly, my younger self would probably faint too. But here’s what nobody tells you about golf. It’s not about the golf. You cannot play a good round if your mind is somewhere else, if you’re gripping the club too tight because you’re gripping your whole life too tight. Golf forces you in a complete presence or you play terribly. There’s no faking it.

The more I practice actually being in the zone of the course, the more I could access that same state everywhere else. Better decisions. Better negotiations. Sharp ideas. And that’s before the people. When I travel the membership gets me in a room with the exact caliber of people I would otherwise be trying to meet. I can attribute several million dollars directly to relationships. I can attribute several million more to the simple discipline of learning to stay present under pressure. Being good at business and being able to find your zone are the same skill wearing different clothes. I didn’t learn that from a book. I learned it on a golf course.

There are three things a Substack Live does that an article or a Note could never do, no matter how well either one is written.

1. Lives compress trust. On Substack it can easily take days, sometimes weeks, of someone slowly reading your work to form an opinion of you. In a live setting that timeline is collapsed into a single sitting. The trust is accelerated because they are not reading a curated, edited version of your thinking. They are watching you think outloud– live, which builds a different, faster kind of trust than a curated piece of work could do.

2. Lives remove the performance trap. The beauty of a live is that there is no editing There is no editing to be done. There are no retakes to be had. There are no filters smoothing anything over. Thanks to that, the usual anxieties, what you look like, what you are wearing, the impressiveness of your background, stops being relevant. The only thing that is relevant is whether your words are useful to your audience for the next ten minutes.

3. Lives keep the energy heightened in the room. An article for example, can convert someone three days from now, but only once they finally get around to reading it. A Live is a moment of “do or don’t”. It either converts while people are present and engaged on the live, or the window closes the moment they leave. Why am I an expert on lives and what am I not telling you? Well, for one, I did not stumble into this by accident. I have run Lives that flopped completely, where I talked for forty minutes and made not even a penny. I have also run Lives that outperformed entire product launches that took 10 weeks to perfect. The difference was never the platform and it was never luck.

It was the structure sitting underneath it. Before I came to Substack, the model I speak of was run on other platforms. We ran it on Instagram. We ran it on Facebook. We ran it on LinkedIn. We ran it on YouTube. Different platforms. Different audiences. The same 5 steps to make money while you sleep on all of them. Every. Single. Time:

1. Build your digital product for a specific niche audience, not “parents,” not “entrepreneurs,” but rather a specific type of person with a specific problem.

2. The product solves for one specific pain point. Not all their pain points. ONE.

3. Give them a framework to get to the result that feels achievable. This can’t feel long and arduous. It will usually land between 7 and 30 days.

4. The format must be delivered in a similar format. Here is our winning combo: 3 videos, 5 to 20 minutes each depending on the topic, plus 3 to 4 PDFs, frameworks, or checklists.

5. Provide your reader with their next logical step after completing the digital product. It should address what they should do next if they want more help thereafter.

That’s the whole framework. I’ve rebuilt it on 5 different platforms because it was never about the platform. It’s about nailing in the audience, the promise, and the next step.

The Substack Digital Product Experiment

When I built our Substack digital product it looked like this: $47 product, 3 videos ( 10 minutes-, 15 minutes), and 3 templates that were a framework to the teaching. It solved one problem, for one specific person. For example, “how to use Instagram without showing your face, without chasing virality, and book 5 qualified calls per week”.

We placed an invitation to join the digital product in four articles. Transparently we did not have an email sequence. There is a case for and against that. The model is simple. If someone reads the article and they like it they buy the digital product. If they don’t then we don’t see a stipe notification. That’s simple.

How We Ran a Substack Live That Made $3,967

We ran the exact same structure for our latest digital product. This past Sunday, on a Substack Live we had 106 people tune into a 40 min session. The hat was active, but the engagement in terms of like was “blah”- 23 likes. The room was fine, but the smallest I;ve done in years as we I just decided to hit the live button. That is what makes this next part so fun.

Here’s what that tiny room did. 37 people bought a $97 base offer. Of those 37 people, 38%, about 14 people, bought the $27 upsell. Within 48 hours of that live ending, that room alone had generated $3,967.

I didn’t talk to a single one of those people on the phone. I didn’t beg anyone to buy. I didn’t DM them and try to become their friend first. They just bought it.

How ANYONE Can Make $10,000+ On Substack This Month

This is the part people skip past– the math. The math is important because if you can reverse engineer this to fit your situation you can make money too!

A fa digital product funnel like this usually has 4 parts. A base offer, somewhere between $47 and $97. An order bump at checkout, $27 to $47. A backend upsell, usually around $97. And a downsell, around $47, for anyone who says no to the upsell but still wants something.

Blend those together across real buyer behavior, some people take the bump, some take the upsell, some take neither, and your average order value usually lands somewhere around $75 to $85 per buyer. This is still from the base of your little $47 digital product.

Now play, let’s run the numbers. The basic numbers, not the best case scenario. If an article converts even a conservative 5 sales a day, that’s roughly $400 a day. Over 30 days, that’s north of $12,000, without a single dollar spent on ads, without a subscriber count in the tens of thousands, without anything beyond what you already know how to do.

The TRUTH About How Long This Should Take

Most people assume creating a profitable digital product takes weeks–it does NOT! The idea of that just makes me sleepy.

The true breakdown is that it will take you 3 to 4 hours to map out the intellectual property, the blueprint, the framework behind the product. It will take another, 3 to 4 hours, to record the videos, build the templates, design it, and load it into a portal. That’s 6 hours, one time, done.

That means all you need is to devote 6 hours, one time, and you can produce a product that earns money every single day, even while you sleep, for as long as you write on Substack.

The BIGGEST Mistake Most People Make ( I did it too)

When I first started building digital products I made a mistake. I’ve come to realize almost every smart, generous, brilliant person makes this mistake initially as well. I’m good at what I do. Give them that and over deliver on the one specific thing. When you do this, two things will inevitably happen without you realizing it. 1.They come back for more. 2. A real number of them decide they’d rather not figure out the rest alone and ask for your help (paid).

The Case for Why Everyone on Substack Should Be Doing This

There is a case and it goes beyond the money. Building a digital product forces you to find your people on the Substack Platform. I’m not talking about your audience in general. I’m talking about the handful who are wildly, unreasonably excited about the exact thing you write about.

Those people don’t just become your best customers. They become your best subscribers. They become the community behind your publication. I have also found, in some cases, they genuinely come from my real life friends. You find out who they are by watching who buys, not just who reads. That’s worth building.

Not Everyone Wants Your Stuff. GOOD, that is the point !

I used to think everyone on every platform needed to buy all my things. Why not? It was good stuff. As I grew in my journey I realized that they don’t. The people scrolling past your post do not desire the exact goal you solve for.

I found myself surrounded by the best marketers and business minds of the last two decades. Someone in a room full of the best minds in the industry looked at me and said, “If we could pull off what you pulled off without a single penny spent on paid ads, we’d be looking at another eight-figure arm in our business. From the outside, it looked like I had built something most people spend their whole lives chasing.

Here’s what nobody in that room knew.

I was in the middle of the most exhausting client relationship of my career. My team had been working close to 50 hour weeks for a single project, on top of everything else on our roster. I’m a parent of four. I have a full client list. And this one client had somehow become the center of everything, ungrateful, demanding, making an already difficult engagement worse by the week.

I wasn’t thinking about firing them. I’m a winner I like to win. I like to complete things. I was thinking, let’s just get through this. Let’s find the good in people. Let’s keep moving. We never want another cent from this person, but let’s get this done.

I’d just flown back from London. A big photo shoot, me acting as creative director, dinners, meetings, the usual pace. At one of those dinners, I ordered what I always ordered at this spot, gluten-free potato croquettes and Chicken pinxto, since I’ve had celiac for years at this place it was the easiest order. Somewhere in that meal, something wasn’t actually gluten-free. I didn’t know it yet. Nobody at that table did.

On the flight home, something wasn’t right. The pain started somewhere over the Atlantic, and it was intense. I could barely sit in my seat. I’m fairly certain the person next to me thought something was seriously wrong with me, because it was written all over my face. But I kept thinking about my kids. I hadn’t seen them in a week. They had activities I wanted to be there for. That was the priority. Keep moving. If I don’t keep things moving, who will?

I landed around 8PM. By 4AM, I was in a hospital room, doubled over, barely able to breathe.

It took them nine hours to figure out it was a severe gluten reaction, likely from that dinner in London. All they could really do was help manage the pain and let it run its course.

Here’s the part that says everything. I left that hospital at 6PM that same night, because I was running a mastermind at 7PM, and I didn’t want to cancel it. That’s what successful people do, I told myself. You show up. You don’t cancel. So I didn’t.

And somewhere in that hospital bed, before I ever walked out the door to go host that mastermind, one thought crossed my mind, clear as anything.

I love my work. I’m genuinely good at this. The people who get to work with me are lucky to work with me. I am lucky to learn about them…And yet….some days I hate this sh*t.

That was the whole contradiction, sitting in three sentences. I had spent everything I had giving to everyone else, and here I was, hours away from doing it again, on schedule, as promised, like nothing had happened.

About a month before all of this, I had lunch in New York with someone who’d become one of the most important people in my life. Not quite a mentor in the traditional sense, more like family. She’d built a successful clothing line, then found real success early in the digital product space. She was a pioneer for women building both impactful and prosperous businesses. She came from a background eerily similar to my own, the same reasons success mattered so much, the same complicated relationship with what it cost to get there.

She was one of the only people I could bring anything to. A business decision, a life decision, a half-formed thought I hadn’t said out loud yet. It is genuinely rare to find someone who understands what it’s like to run an eight figure business model while raising a family, while caring about the causes you care about, while trying to hold onto some version of yourself in the middle of it all. She was that person.

We were at one of the best restaurants in New York, like always. Her with a glass of wine, me with my sweet tea, because that’s just how I roll. And there was something different in her eyes that day, something I’d never quite seen from her before. Looking back now, I think it was foreshadowing. Usually everything between us was said with sarcasm wrapped around real love. This time, there was no sarcasm.

“Taylor,” she said, “what if we got this whole thing backwards?”

I remember sitting back slightly. This wasn’t how our lunches usually started.

“We’re banking on living until we’re eighty-nine, finally getting to use the money we made, finally getting to actually be with the people we love. But we’re always on the go. Always running somewhere. Speaking here, speaking there.”

She paused, and looked at me the way you look at someone when you actually need them to hear you.

“If we got this wrong, we’ve built a funnel out of our entire life. All of it feeding into working, and giving to everyone else, and never actually being with the people we wanted to be with. Never becoming the people we are meant to become outside of this. The world will think we were successful. But were we?”

“You have to find something that lets you give your gifts to the world in a way that isn’t going to kill you. These hours you’re working are insane. Try something different. Use some of your other talents to do this an easier way.”

Thirty days later, we were supposed to have our second lunch. I’d been looking forward to it all week, trading jokes back and forth with her the way we always did. I needed to know where we were meeting so I could tell the driver where to drop me the moment I got off the train at Penn Station.

I texted her. Where are we eating?

Nothing.

The next morning, I tried again. Still nothing.

This was a woman who would cancel on someone else, lose a client if she had to, rather than be ten minutes late to me. Silence from her was not normal. Something was wrong.

I found out she had passed away days earlier.

I was broken in a way I didn’t have language for. I remember thinking I had lost the one person in the world who understood the exact pressure of building something enormous while still trying to hold onto family, travel, my own sanity. I knew, somewhere underneath the grief, that I would never be the same.

I wanted to burn the whole business down.

I had clients. I had cohorts. People depending on me. And I knew I could not function in that same office, that same space, doing things the same way, one more day. I was having trouble getting out of bed, brushing my teeth, taking a shower, let alone running a company. Life had to be more than this.

So I made a fast decision. Not the US, too noisy. Not a luxury European getaway either, this wasn’t a vacation. I needed somewhere quiet enough to remember who I actually was underneath everything I’d built. Vietnam. Not flashy, not performative, just quiet. I found a small airbnb with a pool, enough access to what actually mattered, and I went for 21 days of complete solitude, about a week after she passed.

Every morning looked roughly the same. I got up, and I brainstormed. I kept a pen and paper with me everywhere, on walks, sitting by the pool, in the grass with ants crawling around my feet while I wrote. I wasn’t writing content. I was writing everything I felt, everything I thought, everything I would want another entrepreneur to know about building a business if this was somehow my last day on earth to say it.

Somewhere in that grass, with ants crawling over my notebook, I decided I was going to turn it into a Substack.

We’d already been building and consulting on Substacks for other people, personal brands, other businesses, for a while by then. So I thought, why not do this for myself.

During those 21 days, I launched a brand new Substack from scratch. Thirty days later, we had 20,000 subscribers. We’d hit Top 20 in the Business category. We had collaborations with creators we’d only ever dreamed about working with, even at our level before all of this.

Weeks in, it stopped feeling like business in any traditional sense. It felt like this. Tell people what I actually think about the thing I know best, building businesses from scratch. Let them see if they like me. If they do, some of them ask to work with me. And that’s the whole model.

The first days on Substack felt like posting into complete silence. Nothing happening. And I genuinely didn’t care. For the first time in longer than I could remember, I could hear my own voice again. Whatever I thought had been lost was still there, quietly, waiting. I was just being me, and there was nothing better than that feeling.

Before you can fix a plateau, you have to understand what a plateau actually is, because most people misdiagnose it completely.

They optimize for follower count instead of engagement rate. This is the single biggest misunderstanding in the creator space right now. Instagram does not primarily care how many people follow you. It cares how many of the people who see your content actually do something, watch to the end, comment, share, save. An account with 100,000 followers and a declining engagement rate will get shown to fewer new people than an account with 10,000 followers and a rising one. The algorithm is not measuring your size. It’s measuring your relevance, in real time.

They are creating from instinct instead of information. This is the root cause underneath both of the problems above. Most creators wake up, think about what feels right to post that day, and film it. That instinct might have been accurate when you first started and were closely mirroring what was working in your niche. But instinct doesn’t update itself. Data does.

If your engagement rate is declining even while your follower count technically grows, the algorithm quietly stops showing your content to new people. It starts serving your posts almost exclusively to your existing followers, which caps your growth completely, even though on the surface everything looks fine, you’re still posting, you still have followers, the numbers just aren’t moving.

That is what a plateau actually is. Not bad luck. Not the algorithm being unfair. A signal you haven’t been reading.

The fix is not more content. It’s smarter content, built from real data instead of a guess.

The AI Fix: Stop Guessing, Start Reverse-Engineering

Here is the exact four-step system that took one of our accounts from 500 views a post to over 800,000 in a single month.

Step One: Find the accounts already winning in your niche, right now.

This is not about finding competitors to copy. It’s about finding current reference points, the accounts in your specific niche whose content is consistently performing well this month, not the ones who went viral once eighteen months ago and have been coasting on old momentum since.

Use AI to help you identify these accounts systematically. Search for your niche, your sub-niche, adjacent niches your audience also follows. You’re building a small reference library, not just one account to study, ideally five to ten accounts that are all currently getting strong engagement in your space.

Why does timing matter this much? Because what performs on Instagram changes constantly. A hook style that worked brilliantly a year ago can feel dated and get ignored today. Studying what’s winning right now, rather than what won once, is the difference between chasing a trend that’s already dying and catching one while it’s still rising.

Step Two: Break down the actual pattern, not just the content.

This is where almost everyone gets it wrong, and it’s the single biggest mistake keeping creators stuck.

They look at what a viral creator posted and try to make something similar in subject matter. They see a video about morning routines go viral and think “I should make a video about my morning routine.” That’s not reverse-engineering. That’s copying the surface and missing the actual mechanism underneath it.

Instead, look at the structure. Not what they said. How they built it.

What does their thumbnail actually look like? The color palette. The text placement, is it top third, centered, bottom? The facial expression they’re making in the cover frame, is it shock, curiosity, a smile, a serious stare?

What is their hook doing in the first three seconds specifically? Are they asking a question? Making a bold claim? Showing a visual result before explaining anything? Starting mid-action?

What is the actual length of the video? Fifteen seconds? Forty-five? A minute and a half? This matters enormously and most people never even check it.

What specific keywords keep showing up in their captions, in their on-screen text, in their spoken hooks? Is there language repeating across multiple creators in your niche that signals what the algorithm and the audience are currently responding to?

What is their posting cadence? Daily? Every other day? Three times a week with one long-form piece mixed in?

Feed all of this into AI and ask it to identify the pattern across multiple pieces of each creator’s best-performing content, not just one standout post. This distinction matters more than anything else in this whole process. One viral video could be luck, a fluke, a trending sound that happened to catch fire. A pattern that repeats across ten different pieces of content from multiple different creators in your niche is not luck. It’s a formula that the algorithm, and your specific audience, is currently rewarding.

Step Three: Adapt the pattern, never the content.

This is the line you absolutely cannot cross, and paradoxically, it’s also the part that makes the entire system work rather than turning you into a copycat account that gets flagged or, worse, just feels hollow and inauthentic to the audience you’re trying to build.

You are not copying their words. You are not copying their story, their specific examples, their exact ideas. You are taking the structural pattern, the hook length, the thumbnail style, the pacing, the cadence, and rebuilding it entirely from scratch using your own voice, your own language, your own expertise, your own niche.

Think of it like a recipe versus a dish. You’re not stealing someone’s finished meal. You’re studying that a certain combination of technique, timing, and ratios consistently produces something people love, and then you’re cooking your own dish using that same underlying technique with completely different ingredients that are authentically yours.

The pattern is the skeleton. Your expertise, your personality, your actual knowledge, is everything else, and it’s the part nobody can replicate but you.

Step Four: Let AI remove the guessing from your entire content calendar.

Once you understand the pattern that is actually working in your niche right now, the real unlock is using AI to generate content ideas built directly on that structure, on an ongoing basis, so you’re never starting from a blank page again.

Not generic content ideas pulled from a random list of “50 Instagram post ideas” that could apply to literally any account. Ideas shaped by real, current, working data specific to what your exact audience is already demonstrably responding to, this month, not last year.

This is the difference between sitting down to film and staring at your camera thinking “what do I even talk about today,” burning twenty minutes of creative energy before you’ve shot a single frame, versus opening a running list of ideas that are already structurally engineered, hook length, format, pacing, all pre-mapped, to perform for your specific audience.

What This Actually Looked Like In Real Life

We run six Instagram accounts across different niches. One of them had quietly, painfully stalled over the course of about two months. Views that used to sit comfortably in the tens of thousands dropped to as low as 500 on some posts, and no more than 2,000 on what we considered a good day.

Step One: Your Story

Make the reader feel seen in their specific situation before we said a single thing about what we did.

Demonstrate authority through real results, real numbers, and real client outcomes. Not claims. Proof.

Give them one specific thing they could immediately apply and see results from. Enough to make them think, if this is what the free content looks like, what would working with them actually look like?

That last one is the conversion mechanism. Not the teaching. The implication of what else is possible.

AUTHORITY IS NOT THE SAME THING AS CLIENTS

Here is the distinction most people on Substack miss completely.

Building authority and attracting clients are not the same thing.

You can have thousands of subscribers, hundreds of likes, consistent engagement, and still have no clients, because authority content builds a reputation. It does not automatically build a client pipeline.

What turns authority into client acquisition is the messaging underneath the authority. Every piece of content needs to simultaneously build your credibility and create buyer recognition. The same article that makes someone think this person is brilliant should also make them think I need to find out if they can help me specifically.

Those are not automatic. They have to be engineered. This piece specifically is one of the biggest things we cover inside the sprint because it is the part almost everyone gets wrong.

AND FINALLY, THE CLIENT PIPELINE ITSELF

On an average day we had between 40 and 75 inbound DMs. Not outbound. Inbound. People finding our articles, reading our thought leadership, going to our website, checking the Forbes and Business Insider features, and then reaching out to ask how what we were teaching could apply to their specific situation.

In that same period we had approximately 60 Zoom conversations, ten to fifteen minutes each. Not sales calls. Community calls. Getting to know people and understanding what they were building and where they were stuck.

Of those 60 people, three became paying clients immediately. But every single one of them is in a real conversation with us now. They know who we are. They trust us. They are watching what we build.

That is a pipeline, not a funnel.

WHAT THOSE FIRST CONVERSATIONS LOOKED LIKE

The DMs were not I want to hire you.

They were questions.

How would what you wrote in that article apply to my specific situation?

What do you think about this particular challenge I am having?

I read your piece on X. Can you help me think through Y?

And then some of them went to our website, found the about section, saw Forbes, saw Business Insider, saw the track record. And the DM that came after that was different.

Do you have a proposal for something like this?

Do you have a landing page for this offer?

Could you put something custom together for our situation?

The article built the trust. The authority established the credibility. The DM started the conversation.

Here is a real example. A mastermind for agency owners reached out after finding our content. Their members needed what we were teaching but a group cohort was not the right fit and one-on-one was not in the budget. What did a custom two-hour engagement look like?

We put together a proposal. They paid.

$15,000 for two hours.

That conversation started with a DM about an article.

THE REAL MATH BEHIND THE 26

Here is the full picture because I think the numbers matter more than the highlight reel.

261 total inbound DMs over 40 days.

256 of those turned into real conversations. Not just a reply. An actual back and forth.

Of those 256 conversations, 26 became paying clients.

The rest did not.

Some told me they were not ready yet but would keep following along. Some were clearly not the right fit, not our ideal client, not in a position to invest right now, and that is completely fine. Some just wanted to talk, ask a question, and go back to reading.

Not every conversation was supposed to end in a sale.

And that is actually the point. The DMs that did not convert were never wasted. They were still real people, still real relationships, still people who now trust us and are still in our world watching what we build. Some of them will become clients six months from now. Some never will. Both outcomes are fine.

That is the honest math. 261 DMs. 256 real conversations. 26 clients. And a community that is still growing underneath all of it.

If I had to name the single thing that made clients come to us instead of the other way around it would be this.

We treated every article as both an authority asset and a sales asset simultaneously.

Not content for content’s sake. Not education for the sake of being generous. Every article was engineered to build our authority and create buyer recognition at the same time. The same piece that made someone think this person really knows what they are talking about also made them think I wonder if they could help me specifically.

That combination is what made the DMs come. That combination is what made 26 clients find us in 40 days without us pitching a single one of them. Every word had a job. Every article was designed to compound. The article I wrote on day three of building this Substack still generates inbound inquiries today.

That is the asset. Not the algorithm. The asset.
