The Harsh Truth

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you cannot rush your way to fluency just because someone else speaks better than you or because you want to impress your coworker.

Language learning is a lifelong process that comes with ebbs and flows.

As a Spanish learner of over 10 years, I used to feel this immense pressure to prove that all those years had actually amounted to something. For the longest time, I dealt with fear and insecurity around speaking while desperately wanting to sound like a native speaker.

But it doesn’t work like that.

It would be like saying, “I want to be fit like Lori Harvey,” but only going to the gym once or twice a week. The numbers simply aren’t adding up. 😭

Once I changed my mindset, became okay with letting go of perfectionism, stopped feeling embarrassed every time I made a mistake, and realized there was no finish line, that is when I started seeing massive improvement.

There are so many programs out there promising that you can learn a language in 30 days, but for most people, that simply isn’t realistic.

Especially when acquiring another language for fun, travel, career opportunities, or upward mobility is often treated like some kind of luxury sport.

And honestly, I think these expectations are part of what makes people feel so stuck.

You feel bad because you haven’t mastered the language quickly enough. You compare yourself to people who have been learning longer, have more time, grew up around the language, or simply have different circumstances than you.

But the truth is, learning a new language requires commitment and communication.

Girl, loosen up. Have fun.

Even if you only have 10 to 15 minutes a day, it counts.

And fluency does not mean knowing an entire language from A to Z.

Make it a lifestyle.

Build a world in Spanish that reflects you. Listen to things you actually enjoy. Read about topics you genuinely care about. Learn how to talk about your life, your interests, your career, your relationships, your travels, and everything else that makes you who you are.

Fluency is a rhythm you build over a long period of time.

And here at Spanish for Her, we are anti-learning fast.

As women, we approach language learning as a fun luxury sport. Something that can open doors for us professionally, culturally, socially, and personally, while also being a beautiful hobby that allows us to become more curious about the world.

But most importantly, it requires patience with ourselves.

For us, learning Spanish is about being able to:

• Communicate effectively and be understood

• Build an identity rooted in intelligence, taste, and aura

• Learn through topics that genuinely interest us as women

• Build the confidence to actually speak

Because at the end of the day, you are much more likely to learn things you actually care about.

And before we even get to fluency, we first have to learn how to communicate effectively enough to be understood.

That can look like mastering your self-introduction, learning useful everyday phrases, and becoming comfortable talking about the things that already come up in your daily life.

Think about it.

Most of us talk about similar things every single day.

How was your day?
What did you do today?
What did you eat?
How are you feeling?
What do you do for fun?

If you can begin mastering responses to those types of questions with confidence, you are already on your way.

I created a list of 50 everyday Spanish phrases that I personally encounter when casually chatting with someone. These are the kinds of phrases that help make conversations feel more natural and help you move beyond the Spanish you learned from a textbook.

I’m not a big publishing house. I’m a woman who has studied Spanish for over ten years, and I could never find a book that sounded like me. Plenty of books talked to me like a child, or like a tourist ordering at a restaurant, but never like an adult woman navigating a breakup, a career, a complicated family history. I wanted stories with real stakes, real identity, real womanhood in them — not vocabulary lists dressed up as fiction.

So I wrote the book I couldn’t find. Empezar de Nuevo follows Daniela, a Colombian-American woman in New York, through a year of starting over: a three-year relationship ending, a girls’ night out, a distracting guy at the gym, a New Year’s list that turns into a real plan for her life, a solo trip to her family’s hometown of Cartagena, and a career risk that changes everything.

A quick note on how to read it

If you open this book and don’t understand every word, that’s not a problem — that’s actually the point. This method is called comprehensible input, and it’s how humans have always acquired language, long before grammar drills and vocabulary lists existed. Your brain doesn’t need a perfect translation of every sentence to learn from a story. It needs enough context, emotion, and repetition to start recognizing patterns on its own.

So as you read, let go of the instinct to stop and look up every unfamiliar word. Follow the feeling of the story instead — Daniela’s nervousness before a first date, the relief of a good cry with your best friend. If you understand the emotion, you’re already learning, even if a few words pass you by.

The goal of this book is not to understand every word. The goal is to enjoy the story, feel what Daniela feels, and see a little of yourself in her.

Read this book more than once. The first time, just enjoy it. The second time, a week later read it slower and notice the phrases that repeat. That gap between your first read and your second is your progress. Real, measurable, and yours.

This philosophy is the foundation of everything I teach here at Spanish for Her — real language, real stories, real life.

Chapter 1: La ruptura de tres años

(The Three-Year Breakup — Nueva York, EE. UU.)

Daniela mira las cajas en el piso de su apartamento en Nueva York. Ropa, libros, una foto en un marco roto. Todo lo que quedó de tres años con Marco.

Suena el timbre. Es Camila, su mejor amiga, con dos cafés y una mirada de “ya llegué, tranquila”.

—Ay, amiga —dice Camila, y deja los cafés en la mesa para abrazar a Daniela—. ¿Cómo estás?

—No sé, Cami. Cansada. Triste. Un poco aliviada, creo. Es raro sentir las dos cosas al mismo tiempo.

—Es normal, mi amor. Tres años no se terminan en un día. Ven, siéntate.

Las dos se sientan en el sofá, entre cajas medio vacías. Camila le pasa un café.

—¿Qué pasó, al final? Pensé que ustedes van a casarse.

Daniela suspira.

—Yo también lo pensé. Pero pasamos meses sin hablar de verdad. Cada uno en su mundo. Un día me di cuenta de que ya no soy feliz, solo... cómoda. Y eso no es suficiente.

—Eso requiere mucho valor, Dani. Terminar algo cómodo por algo mejor, aunque no sabes qué es “algo mejor” todavía.

—Gracias. La verdad, tengo mucho miedo. Tres años es mucho tiempo. No sé quién soy sin él.

Camila la mira con cariño.

—Pues vas a averiguarlo. Y no estás sola, ¿okay? Aquí estoy yo, con café y con tiempo libre para lo que necesites.

Daniela sonríe, por primera vez en varios días.

—¿Sabes qué es lo más raro? Mi mamá siempre dice que las rupturas son como una limpieza. Cierran un ciclo. Ella es bien colombiana con esas frases.

—Tu mamá tiene razón. Y hablando de eso... ¿cuándo fue la última vez que hablaste español con ella, de verdad, más de dos minutos?

Daniela se queda pensando.

—Uy, hace tiempo. Entiendo casi todo, pero para hablar, se me traba la lengua. Marco no habla español, entonces en casa siempre hablamos inglés.

—Pues mira, ya que estás “empezando de nuevo”... capaz es buen momento para reconectar con eso también. Con tu español, con Cartagena, con tu abuela.

—¿Sabes qué? Tienes razón. Siento que perdí muchas cosas estos años, no solo a Marco.

Camila levanta su café.

—Por Daniela: nueva versión, nueva energía.

Daniela choca su vaso contra el de Camila, y por primera vez desde la ruptura, siente algo parecido a la esperanza.

—Por la nueva Daniela —repite, y las dos se ríen, rodeadas de cajas a medio empacar y un futuro todavía sin definir.

• Ay, amiga — A soft, sympathetic exclamation — “Oh, girl” said with warmth before comforting someone.

• Mi amor — Term of endearment used between close friends, not just romantically — “honey / sweetie.”

• Bien colombiana — “Very/totally Colombian” — bien used as an intensifier, common across Latin America.

• Se me traba la lengua — Idiom — “my tongue gets tangled/tied” (I freeze up when speaking).

Welcome to another Spanish for Her publication, where we share authentic frameworks to help you communicate confidently in Spanish, or any other language, as a feminine and intelligent woman.

Today, I want to dive into something that I think we need a little more of in language learning: everyday Spanish phrases that aren’t always taught in traditional classes or language apps.

And no, I’m not going to teach you how to order a taxi. First of all, most of us are using Uber now, so some of that textbook information feels a little dated. What you’re more likely to encounter is the random small talk you might have with your Uber driver, and knowing how to navigate those little conversations is actually much more useful.

So today, we’re skipping the old textbook phrases and going straight to the heart of the language: the questions, comments, reactions, and little expressions women exchange with their friends, mothers, partners, and coworkers every single day.

This list is different.

These are the phrases that show up on repeat in real friendships and real conversations. The ones that make you sound like you belong in the conversation, instead of sounding like you’re translating everything in your head.

Save this one. Practice it slowly. And let these phrases become second nature.

🌅 Checking In On Someone’s Day

• ¿Qué has hecho hoy? — What have you done today?

• ¿Cómo estuvo tu día? — How was your day?

• ¿Qué hiciste hoy? — What did you do today?

• ¿Ya cenaste? — Have you had dinner yet?

This is the Spanish version of “spill the tea” — it’s an invitation, not just a question.

Notice these feelings phrases end in -a, because you’re speaking as yourself. Small detail, big confidence boost.

A Gentle Note on How to Practice This

Don’t try to memorize all fifty at once. Pick five. Say them out loud this week and Practice it right away during conversations to yourself, to a language partner, to the mirror if you have to. Notice how many of these show up when you watch a Spanish show or ease drop in on a Spanish conversation.

Real fluency isn’t built from vocabulary lists. It’s built from belonging inside a conversation and that starts with recognizing these phrases as old friends, not new material.

Language learning is not a cookie cutter experience, especially when you are an adult picking up a second language. And honestly, I think it can feel even more complicated as a woman.

There is so much advice telling you what app to download, how many words to memorize, how many minutes you should study each day, and how quickly you should be fluent.

But learning a language is not really about checking off a list.

It is about creating a relationship with the language.

For me, the biggest shift happened when I stopped treating Spanish like another subject I needed to study and started allowing it to become part of my everyday life.

So if you have been struggling to make progress, constantly downloading new apps, or feeling like you should be further along by now, I want to show you a softer and more natural way to approach learning Spanish.

Why So Many Beginners Struggle to Actually Make Progress

I think one of the biggest things that holds women back is confidence.

You can know the vocabulary. You can understand the grammar. You can even recognize what someone is saying to you.

And then the moment you have to actually speak, your mind goes completely blank.

I know this feeling because I lived it.

For years, I studied Spanish and still felt afraid to speak. I was so worried about embarrassing myself or saying something incorrectly that sometimes it felt easier to just stay quiet.

And when you sit in that mindset long enough, your body starts to follow it.

You become hesitant. You overthink every sentence. You start translating everything in your head before you say it.

Eventually, Spanish starts to feel like something you are studying instead of something you are living.

That is where I think we need to shift our mindset.

Language learning is not a three week challenge.

It is a lifestyle.

You do not become conversational because you downloaded an app and completed a thirty day streak. You become conversational because you keep showing up and interacting with the language over and over again.

Think about how you learned English.

You did not sit at a desk memorizing vocabulary lists every morning.

You learned through your family, television, music, stories, conversations, school, books, and your environment.

Spanish can become that for you too.

The App Hopping Trap That Keeps Beginners Stuck

One of the easiest things to do when you are learning Spanish is to convince yourself that you are making progress because you are constantly consuming language learning content.

One day you are using Duolingo.

The next day you are watching a random YouTube video.

Then you find a vocabulary post on Instagram.

Then you download another app because someone said it is the best way to learn Spanish.

And suddenly you have five different resources but no real routine.

I have been there.

The problem is not necessarily the apps. The problem is that you are constantly starting over.

Instead of trying to create a completely separate Spanish life, I want you to start looking at the life you already have.

Where are the little pockets of time that already exist?

Maybe you drive to work every morning.

Put on a Spanish podcast.

Maybe you do your makeup for twenty minutes.

Put on a Spanish vlog and follow along.

Maybe you go on your morning walk.

Listen to Spanish music or a Spanish speaking creator.

Maybe you cook dinner every evening.

Put on a Spanish YouTube video in the background.

This is how you start moving from studying Spanish to living with Spanish.

I used to feel like I needed to create a completely separate time in my day to be a Spanish baddie lol.

And honestly, that separation was not conducive to my lifestyle.

It felt like I was thinking for two.

But becoming bilingual does require your brain to eventually think differently, so instead of fighting that process, we can make it feel more natural by allowing Spanish to exist inside the routines we already have.

The goal is not to make your life harder.

The goal is to make Spanish easier to return to.

What Actually Helps You Learn Faster

There are three things I keep coming back to when it comes to learning Spanish: comprehensible input, repetition, and speaking.

Comprehensible input simply means listening to or watching Spanish that you can mostly understand.

You do not need to understand every single word.

In fact, you probably should not.

You want enough context that your brain can start connecting the words to what is happening.

This is one of the biggest changes I made in my own learning journey.

After ten years of studying Spanish and still being afraid to speak, I eventually got tired of seeing the same results.

So I changed my strategy.

I started consuming more Spanish that I could actually understand.

I watched videos. I listened to conversations. I followed creators. I let myself hear the same words repeatedly.

And slowly, things started connecting.

Then comes repetition.

You will hear a word once and think you understand it.

Then you hear it again a few days later.

Then you hear it in a completely different sentence.

Eventually, it stops feeling like a vocabulary word you memorized and starts feeling like a word you actually know.

And finally, you have to speak.

Not perfectly.

Not beautifully.

Not without mistakes.

You just have to speak.

Because there is a difference between knowing Spanish and being able to access the Spanish you know when someone is actually standing in front of you.

The Best Apps to Learn Spanish as an Absolute Beginner

If you are an absolute beginner and you need something simple to help you build daily momentum, I recommend starting with Duolingo or Language Transfer.

Both were part of my early Spanish journey and helped me start putting words together into simple sentences.

A lot of beginner conversations revolve around the same everyday topics.

How are you?

Where do you live?

What do you do for work?

Where are you from?

What do you like to do?

You do not need to know every Spanish word in the dictionary to start communicating.

You need to become comfortable with the words and sentence structures that actually come up in everyday life.

LingoPie

LingoPie is a fun option if you want to learn through movies and television.

Honestly, I love anything that gives you an excuse to binge your next favorite series while still learning.

Watching content you genuinely enjoy makes it much easier to stay engaged, especially when you are trying to improve your listening skills and build vocabulary naturally.

Pimsleur

Pimsleur is another option I like for beginners who want to start speaking.

It focuses heavily on listening and repeating, which helps you build that mouth muscle memory you need when you are trying to produce Spanish out loud.

The lessons are organized into situations and modules, so you can practice phrases you are likely to actually use.

As I discover more apps and resources, I will definitely keep updating this list here in our Spanish for Her community.

The One App I Personally Would Not Recommend

Okay ladies, if I am being completely honest with you, Tandem is one app I personally would avoid.

And this is not me saying the app is objectively bad.

This is just my experience as a past user.

I tried using Tandem twice and I personally did not love the experience.

The interface felt a little too intimate for me, and I also noticed that a lot of men seemed to be treating the platform more like a dating app than a language exchange.

I only stayed on for about three days before deleting it.

I also struggled to understand how the overall design encouraged the kind of community learning experience I was looking for.

That being said, they do offer voice rooms and opportunities to speak with native speakers, so if you decide to try it, just use your own judgment and be mindful of who you are interacting with.

Eventually, You Have to Graduate From Apps

Ladies, there are so many AI language apps and new learning platforms popping up now that are designed to keep you engaged in the same way social media does.

And while I think technology can be incredibly helpful, I do not want you to confuse being entertained by a language app with actually becoming conversational.

Once you have built a foundation, especially around an A1 to B2 level, I highly recommend starting to engage with longer form Spanish content and real conversations.

This is where tutoring can become incredibly valuable.

iTalki

iTalki gives you the opportunity to work one on one with native speakers through individual lessons.

I like the flexibility because you can choose how often you want to meet and what you actually want to work on.

If speaking confidence is your biggest struggle, having someone there who can listen to you, correct you, and keep the conversation moving can be incredibly valuable.

And honestly, sometimes you just need someone to make you talk.

If Paid Tutoring Is Not In Your Budget

HelloTalk is another option if you want to connect with native speakers for free.

I actually prefer it to Tandem based on my own experience.

HelloTalk is where I gained a lot of my speaking confidence.

I eventually found two language partners who were willing to be patient with me and have real conversations.

They challenged me to speak.

There were so many times when I stumbled over my words, forgot vocabulary, or completely blanked out.

But they were my hype buddies.

And sometimes you need a language partner who allows you to learn in a messy way.

You need someone who does not make you feel embarrassed when you make a mistake.

Because you are going to make mistakes.

That is part of becoming conversational.

Why I Created Spanish for Her

Now that you have a few apps and resources in your toolkit, I want you to think beyond the tools themselves.

You also need an environment that makes you want to keep learning.

That is one of the reasons I created Spanish for Her.

Spanish for Her is a community for women who want to learn Spanish through a more feminine and lifestyle focused lens.

We talk about language, but we also talk about the things that make learning a language feel connected to your actual life.

Beauty.

Fashion.

Travel.

Work.

Lifestyle.

Conversation.

Because as I became more advanced in Spanish, I started noticing something.

A lot of the language learning content I found felt very broad or male centered.

I would find language exchange rooms where the conversation immediately became about dating.

My language partners would send me slang that I had absolutely no interest in learning.

And when I wanted to find Spanish speaking content about beauty, fashion, lifestyle, or womanhood, I had to go searching for it myself.

So I started building my own little library.

I found women vloggers I loved watching.

I found Spanish speaking creators whose lifestyles and perspectives actually interested me.

I found podcasts, videos and content that made me want to spend more time in the language.

And eventually I realized:

This is exactly what I wanted to create for other women.

That is why Spanish for Her was born.

I want you to be able to open a newsletter and find something you genuinely want to watch, listen to, or learn from.

Not because you are forcing yourself to study.

But because you are becoming the kind of woman who naturally has Spanish in her life.

How to Choose the Right Mix of Tools

You do not need ten apps.

You probably do not even need five.

Keep it simple.

Choose one tool that helps you build a daily habit.

Find content that you genuinely enjoy consuming.

Add repetition so the language actually sticks.

And eventually, add speaking practice so you can activate what you have been absorbing.

Think of it as three layers.

Input.

You are listening to and consuming Spanish.

Repetition.

You are seeing and hearing the language enough times for it to become familiar.

Output.

You are actually using Spanish through speaking and conversation.

That is the full cycle.

The 15 Minute Spanish Routine I Want You to Try

If you only have fifteen minutes a day, you can still make meaningful progress.

I would rather see you spend fifteen intentional minutes with Spanish every day than create a two hour study plan that you abandon after four days.

Here is a simple routine to start with.

Three minutes: Shadow a short audio clip. Listen and repeat immediately, trying to match the rhythm and pronunciation.

Four minutes: Read a short Spanish text or dialogue out loud.

Five minutes: Narrate what you are doing or what happened earlier in your day.

Two minutes: Record yourself answering one simple question in Spanish and listen back.

One minute: Take one new word and use it in three different sentences.

It is simple, but you are touching several important parts of language learning in a very short amount of time.

And more importantly, you are actually using the language.

Your Spanish Practice Over 90 Days

Your daily practice is the foundation, but I also want you to create little moments throughout your week where you can see yourself improving.

One day, record yourself talking about your week for one or two minutes.

Another day, practice a real life situation like ordering food, checking into a hotel, or introducing yourself to someone new.

Another day, listen to a short Spanish video and try to explain what happened in your own words.

Then at the end of the week, listen back to something you recorded earlier.

This is important because sometimes you are improving and you do not realize it.

You need evidence.

You need to hear yourself becoming more comfortable.

You need to notice that the sentence that took you thirty seconds to form last month now comes naturally.

That is progress.

How Do You Know When You Are Ready to Level Up?

I do not want you to become obsessed with levels, but they can be helpful when you use them as a general guide.

At A1, you are beginning to introduce yourself and handle very familiar situations.

At A2, you can start describing your daily life, routines, preferences, and handle simple everyday exchanges.

At B1, you can navigate many familiar conversations, describe experiences, and communicate without relying entirely on memorized phrases.

But here is what I care about more than the label.

What can you actually do?

Can you introduce yourself without preparing beforehand?

Can you explain what you did yesterday?

Can you order food without switching back to English?

Can you understand the general idea of a Spanish vlog?

Can you have a conversation even when you do not know every word?

Those are the little signs that you are becoming conversational.

Three Ways to Check Your Progress Every Week

First, record yourself answering the same question every week.

Then compare your recordings.

Second, listen to a short piece of Spanish content and try to explain what you understood without looking anything up.

Third, choose a handful of words you learned that week and challenge yourself to use them naturally in conversation.

If those things start feeling easier, you are moving forward.

And if they feel exactly the same week after week, that is not a reason to feel discouraged.

It is simply a sign that you may need more challenging input or more opportunities to speak.

You Do Not Need Another Perfect Spanish Study Plan

At this point, you have everything you need to start.

You have a few tools.

You have a daily routine.

You have ways to practice speaking.

And you have a way to actually measure whether you are improving.

But more than anything, I want you to remember this:

Spanish is not something you have to squeeze into your life. It can become part of your life.

Put on the Spanish vlog while you do your makeup.

Listen to a podcast on your morning walk.

Watch the Spanish speaking woman whose lifestyle inspires you.

Talk to your language partner even if you stumble.

Read something in Spanish while you drink your coffee.

Let yourself be bad at it.

Let yourself sound awkward.

Let yourself forget words.

Keep going anyway.

Because the goal is not to become a woman who knows the most Spanish vocabulary.

The goal is to become a woman who is comfortable enough to actually use it.

And that is what we are building here at Spanish for Her.

This week, I basically turned my whole world into Spanish.

Since I work from home all day, I started putting on a Spanish podcast or video in the background while I worked so I could listen passively throughout the day. While doing my makeup, I put on a Dreaming Spanish vlog and followed along with their themed topic.

I don’t necessarily try to understand every single word. Instead, I make mental notes of phrases that stick out to me and really try to immerse myself in the emotions of the conversation.

I’m laughing at the jokes. I’m paying attention to their reactions. I’m listening to how they naturally respond to each other, even while I’m trying to perfect my winged eyeliner.

And honestly, I absorbed SO many phrases around emotional intelligence this week that I think are actually useful for everyday conversations.

I also got to use my real-life Spanish during an Uber ride.

The app wasn’t showing the correct drop-off address, and instead of overthinking what I wanted to say, I just spoke using my survival Spanish skills and figured it out with the driver.

She didn’t bat an eye that I was a gringa.

Maybe I passed as a native.

But honestly, that’s the point.

Confidence is what matters.

You don’t need perfect Spanish to start using your Spanish.

Journaling Tip of the Week ✍🏽

Here’s the method I’m using this week:

1. Follow a video topic.

Choose a Spanish video and pay attention to the topic they’re discussing.

2. Write about the same topic in your own words.

Don’t worry about making it perfect. Just write what you would say.

3. Correct it.

Use a native speaker or ChatGPT to correct your writing and explain the mistakes.

4. Come back the next day.

Try to talk about the same topic again using your own words—without looking at your original journal entry.

5. Notice where you get stuck.

If you can’t remember a word or phrase, go back to your journal, review it, and repeat the process.

The goal isn’t to memorize an entire paragraph.

The goal is to see which words and phrases you can actually recall when you need them.

That’s how we move from “I understand Spanish” to “I can actually speak Spanish.” 🫒

One of my favorite ways to learn Spanish is to stop treating it like a subject I’m studying and start treating it like a language I’m collecting.

I’ll hear a phrase in a podcast, save it, understand how it’s being used, and then try to make it part of my own vocabulary.

That’s the beauty of learning through immersion.

My Reflection Notes:

No deberíamos normalizar dormir tan poco. Siento que hoy en día se ha vuelto normal descuidarse o dormir lo menos posible para ser más productivos. Cada vez que hablas con alguien, siempre te dice: “Ah, sí, anoche dormí cuatro horas” como si fuera algo bueno.

Pero nuestro cuerpo requiere más descanso. lo ideal es dormir unas ocho horas porque no hay ningún premio por dormir menos o tener orejas no es cool. Hablas con la gente y todo el mundo anda cansado, pero no es normal.

En mi caso, duermo seis y siete horas por noche, pero tengo el sueño muy ligero y no soporto el ruido. Por ejemplo, en el apartamento donde estoy se escucha el tráfico y eso me molesta muchísimo.

My Language Journey This Week

Since moving to Dallas, I’ve fallen off my language journey just a tiny bit—but we’re back.

I don’t enjoy studying Spanish like I’m back in elementary school memorizing random vocabulary lists. I prefer learning through a more sophisticated, feminine approach that builds both my identity and my fluency at the same time.

This week’s practice:

• Record a five-minute voice note narrating your day. Save them each week so you can hear your progress over time.

• Find a Spanish-speaking content creator you genuinely connect with and begin shadowing their accent, rhythm, personality, and expressions.

If you go a week without practicing don’t panic but I suggest keeping your mind active through passive learning so you can subconsciously absorb the language without having to open a text book.. during your car ride to work listen to an engaging podcast , read a book in your target language, Listen to music and watch a funny vlog in Spanish so you can release Endorphins that makes you feel happy and connected to the language and once you comeback to your regular schedule you won’t feel like your starting from zero you might be surprised how much you retained.

my favorite way I like to learn languages is through learning with videos of everyday people so I can catch new phrases to incorporate into my day !

This vlog was about 30+ minute but we’re going to dive into the first 4 minutes

I avoid trying to memorize 20 words in one sitting of a vlog. I suggest spending time with a few phrases as much as you and incorporate it right away or role play in the mirror I want judge you sis

Phrases for journaling habits you do daily a great way to express why journaling matters to you . ( tweak to your own liking)

( I always read a couple of pages in the morning)

Below I have highlighted two of my favorite podcasts to listen to in Spanish during your car rides, errands or just relaxing in bed because they talk about womanhood, self growth , learning lessons and un poco de chisme but there real authentic conversations that we naturally consume in English and I love that they sometimes speak in Spanglish , they laugh a lot at themselves , they use alot of girl hood internet slangs and you just get a peak into there life as woman navigating friendship, relationships, careers and more it feels like listening to a friend tell you about there day .

These are great podcasts to listen to passively and extract a few words / phrases that you feel could express what your feeling or going through.

And if your going through the 75 fluent challenge i did recommend 1 podcast per day but you can listen to the same one daily or weekly or find new ones daily ! It’s all up to your preference!

Welcome to our first 75 Day Fluent Challenge.

This challenge is inspired by the original 75 Day concept, but I decided to create my own version, one rooted in our Soft and Cultured philosophy. A space dedicated to inspiring women to become softer, more cultured, and more intentional through self actualization and conscious living. If you want to explore that more deeply, you can check out our other blog .

This challenge is not about studying Spanish in a rigid or academic way. It is about immersion. It is meant to be fun, expressive, and human.

And I have to say this, even if it sounds a little blunt. When many of us speak Spanish, we lose our personality. We joke like men, sometimes like a Dominican man specifically. I know that sounds harsh, but it is real. When speaking a new language, we often struggle to articulate how smart, feminine, and nuanced we actually are. I do not want you to forget that. As you build a new identity in Spanish, you do not have to abandon who you are. You are allowed to still be yourself.

This challenge is not designed to make you one hundred percent fluent, even though marketing loves to promise that. Fluency is a rhythm. It is something that needs to be touched daily. If someone says they lack rhythm, it is usually because they are not dancing or flowing consistently. That is the point of this challenge.

This is about building a daily practice that feels feminine, enjoyable, and alive. If it feels like work, you will get bored and stop. This was designed to help you discover yourself in the process and to build confidence while you do.

This Substack community is meant to be a place where we keep each other accountable and cheer each other on throughout the 75 days. You will likely receive daily to weekly emails with my personal journal recordings, resources, tips, feminine Spanish content, and any hidden gems I come across. I want this to be your go to space. I will also be enabling a chat specifically for the challenge.

No matter what day you come across this, I hope you choose to challenge yourself and push past imperfection.

Today I watched a video on this young Dominican girl who teaches Spanish and she mention let Spanish be messy and I could not agree more !

You should be like a child and free flow with the language.. sound stupid , make the mistakes , learn and recover .

Fluency is a rhythm and it takes time to catch on

here’s my daily rundown of what I did / learned today :

I did 20 minutes of intercambio on Hellotalk

For 10 minutes I spoke about my 2026 goals

One of my goals : rechazar más planes ósea decir “No” a planes que no deseo asistir.

I was also asked to speak more of my other goals and my mind went sorta blank and after a few ums i remembered that my goal this year is to visit my sister so i proceed to say that in spanish .

Filler words to sound native

O sea - te ayuda pensar y clarificar lo que quieres decir

Bueno - well

Used to change topic / start to speak

Ya - I know / were on the same page no need to explain more.

Como que - no estás seguro / like

At night I spent 2 hours in Hellotalk room speaking with natives about various topics but I noticed I came in without feeling anxious but rather relaxed and happy and I was able to converse. Make mistakes and not feel like I wanted to run out the room but I leaned into it and laughed at myself when I couldn’t get the words out

But we talked about high level topics I was proud of myself that I expressed my opinions and I also asked questions

here’s what we spoke about :

Does DR do Censuses ?, Data science as a career , working in gov , anti social media , why Bordem is good and it helps you think clearly.

I wish in those moments I was able to record the conversation with a recorder and I know I could do it with video but sometimes I start to act differently once the cameras are turned on.
