Tema: Verbos trampa en el día a día / Tricky everyday verbs.

¡Tercer día del reto! En español hay verbos que en otros idiomas se traducen con una sola palabra (como to ask o to remember), pero que aquí exigen estructuras muy concretas. ¡Ponte a prueba y déjanos tu opción en los comentarios! (Third day of the challenge! In Spanish, some verbs are translated with a single word in other languages but require very specific structures here. • Nivel C1-C2 (Avanzado): Verbos de cambio y transformación / Verbs of becoming.

  Estás comentando con un amigo lo mucho que ha cambiado un conocido de ambos con los años: alguien humilde que, con paciencia y trabajo duro, logró convertirse con el tiempo en una persona de gran éxito e influencia, pero sin volverse soberbio ni actuar de forma repentina. ¿Cuál de estas opciones describe esa evolución con el verbo de cambio más preciso y natural?

Tema: Falsos amigos y trampas de traducción. / False friends & translation traps.

¡Segundo día del reto! Hoy ponemos a prueba tu producción escrita para esquivar esas palabras que suenan parecido al inglés pero significan algo totalmente diferente en español. ¡Déjanos tu respuesta en los comentarios! (Second day of the challenge! Today we test your writing skills to avoid those words that sound similar to English but mean something completely different in Spanish. Leave your answer in the comments!)

• Nivel A1-A2 (Principiante / Beginner): Embarrassed vs. Pregnant (Avergonzado/a vs. Embarazada)

  En una reunión con nuevos amigos, cometes un error gracioso o tiras un vaso de agua sin querer. Quieres disculparte y expresar que sientes mucha vergüenza por el despiste, no que estás esperando un bebé. (At a gathering with new friends, you make a funny mistake or accidentally spill a glass of water. You want to apologize and say you feel very embarrassed, not that you are expecting a baby.)

  👉 Tu reto: Escribe 1 o 2 frases disculpándote y explicando con naturalidad que te da mucha vergüenza lo ocurrido. (Your challenge: Write 1 or 2 sentences apologizing and naturally expressing that you feel very embarrassed about what happened.)

  Llegas a una fiesta o evento social con un amigo que no conoce a nadie en el grupo. Quieres romper el hielo y darlo a conocer formalmente a los demás invitados. (You arrive at a party or social event with a friend who doesn’t know anyone in the group. You want to break the ice and formally introduce him/her to the other guests.)

  👉 Tu reto: Escribe 2 o 3 frases para llamar la atención del grupo, presentar a tu amigo por su nombre y comentar brevemente de qué os conocéis, usando el verbo adecuado en español para esta situación social. (Your challenge: Write 2 or 3 sentences to get the group’s attention, introduce your friend by name, and briefly explain how you know each other, using the appropriate Spanish verb for this social situation.)

• Nivel C1-C2 (Avanzado): Constipated vs. Constipado (Resfriado vs. Estreñido).

  Estás en un viaje de trabajo o intercambio y empiezas a encontrarte mal con congestión nasal, estornudos y dolor de garganta. Quieres avisar a tus anfitriones o compañeros de que te has resfriado por el cambio de temperatura, cuidando con absoluta precisión el léxico para no usar un falso amigo comprometido o fuera de lugar.

  Estás paseando por la ciudad en pleno verano, la temperatura es muy alta y sientes la necesidad de beber agua. ¿Cómo expresas correctamente lo que sientes para pedir ayuda o entrar en una cafetería? (You are walking through the city in the middle of summer, the temperature is very high, and you feel the need to drink water. How do you correctly express how you feel to ask for help or enter a cafe?)

  • a) Tengo mucho calor y estoy sed.

  • b) Tengo mucho calor y tengo mucha sed.

  • c) Soy muy caliente y estoy con sed.

• Nivel B1-B2 (Intermedio / Intermediate): Vergüenza y miedo / Embarrassment and fear

  Tienes que hablar en público ante un grupo grande de gente en español. Sientes una mezcla de timidez y temor a equivocarte. Al contárselo a un amigo, ¿Cuál de estas opciones expresa tu estado de forma 100 % natural sin traducir literalmente del inglés? (You have to speakk in public before a large group of people in Spanish. You feel a mix of shyness and fear of making mistakes. 🎯 Level: B1 and above.

What does the case involve?

• 📩 Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: You will receive a “confidential dossier” with a short story written by a fictional student… but it’s full of grammatical crimes! (common errors with ser/estar, bien/bueno, por/para, gender and number agreement —masculine/feminine, singular/plural—, etc.)

• 🕵️‍♀️ Your mission: Find the errors, correct them, and briefly explain what the mistake was.

• 🎙️ Inspector’s feedback: Send me your report (via text or audio), and I’ll give you personalized, individual corrections to see if you’ve solved the case successfully.

It’s an engaging, practical activity designed to sharpen your grammatical eye and boost your precision.

(errores comunes de ser/estar, bien/bueno, por/para, concordancia de género y número —masculino/femenino, singular/plural—, etc.).

• 🕵️‍♀️ Tu misión: Encontrar los errores, corregirlos y explicarnos brevemente cuál era el fallo.

• 🎙️ Feedback de la inspectora: Me envías tu informe (por texto o audio) y te daré corrección individual y personalizada para ver si has resuelto el caso con éxito.

Es una actividad práctica y amena, perfecta para agudizar la vista y ganar precisión en tu español.

Durante este mes de agosto hemos dado un descanso a los Clubs de Lectura, pero los retomaremos en septiembre. Sin embargo, como puedes ver en el calendario semanal, continuamos teniendo nuestras reuniones de conversación y de Clases en Grupo, como de costumbre. (We’ve taken a break from the Reading Clubs this August, but we’ll be resuming them in September. ✅ Soluciones / Answers:

1. Respuesta correcta: con el que

• Explicación: El verbo “hablar” exige la preposición “con” (hablar con alguien). Al formar la oración relativa, la preposición debe colocarse justo delante del pronombre relativo (el personaje con el que me gustaría hablar...).

• The verb “hablar” requires the preposition “con” (hablar con alguien). In relative clauses, the preposition must go before the relative pronoun: “el personaje con el que...” (the character with whom...).

2. Respuesta correcta: preguntaría

• Explicación: En las oraciones condicionales hipotéticas (Si tuviera...), la consecuencia en el presente o futuro se expresa mediante el Condicional Simple (preguntaría).

• In hypothetical conditional sentences (Si tuviera...), the consequence in the present or future is expressed using the Simple Conditional (preguntaría).

3. Respuesta correcta: curiosa

• Explicación: El adjetivo “curioso/a” describe a una persona que tiene deseo de saber o averiguar cosas, la cualidad ideal para hacer preguntas sobre la historia. “Aburrida” o “lejana” no encajan con el sentido de la frase.

• The adjective “curioso/a” (curious) describes someone who wants to learn or find out things, the ideal trait for asking about history. “Aburrida” or “lejana” do not fit the context.

4. Respuesta correcta: persona

• Explicación: La locución fija en español es “en persona” (in person), que indica que alguien está presente de forma física para contar o hacer algo.

• The fixed phrase in Spanish is “en persona” (in person), which indicates that someone is physically present to tell or do something.
