itself
has grown curious about the tenderness
of two hearts finding one another

Tonight is such a night

The moon pours silver
across the quiet architecture of the earth
and somewhere between shadow and radiance
your presence becomes a kind of gravity
not the gravity that keeps us bound
but the gravity that teaches two wandering souls
where they may finally rest

Come closer

Not merely with your body
but with that hidden country within you
where longing has been waiting
patient and luminous
for someone who could enter
without disturbing its sacred silence

Let me meet you there

Let love move between us
with the ancient intelligence of water
unhurried instinctive
finding every passage the heart
once believed was sealed

Let it travel through the chambers
we have kept illuminated only by ourselves
touching what has been lonely
awakening what has been sleeping
making no demand except
that we remain present
for the miracle of being known

I want the smallest things with you

the quiet breath before sleep
the warmth of your hand resting in mine
the almost imperceptible tremor
that passes between us
when neither of us speaks

I want the kind of intimacy
that does not announce itself
the kind that happens
when your shoulder finds mine in the darkness
and for one suspended moment
the entire cosmos seems to understand
that this is enough

Outside the stars keep
their impossible distances

Inside ours disappear

And love
that wild incandescent creature
begins to rise between us

It does not ask permission

It opens its wings

It carries everything we have feared to say
beyond the borders of language
into that luminous region
where desire is no longer merely hunger
but recognition

There your eyes become constellations
Your breath becomes weather
Your nearness becomes a language
my body remembers
from some existence older than memory

And I understand then
that tenderness can be profoundly sensual
without ever becoming hurried
that longing can be a form of reverence
that to desire another soul deeply
is sometimes to stand before its mystery
with nothing in your hands
except your willingness to stay

So let us stay

Let the warm night gather around us

Let candlelight tremble against the walls
as though even flame has become shy
before the intimacy unfolding here

Let the world recede

Let clocks forget themselves

Let every ordinary boundary
between you and me
become permeable as mist

For love was never meant
to be imprisoned in the heart

It was made to travel
through touch
through silence
through laughter whispered into darkness
through the trembling space
between one breath and the next

It was made to become larger
than the two who first discovered it

And when it does
when it begins flowing beyond us
into trees and rivers
into moonlight and birdsong
into every living thing that has ever
ached toward another living thing

we become something
neither of us could have become alone

Not two people possessing love

but two doorways
through which love passes

And perhaps that is why
the night feels so impossibly alive

Why the moon seems closer

Why the air itself
carries the fragrance of beginning

Why somewhere beneath the skin
there is a quiet certainty
that we are not merely falling in love

we are being returned
to something vast
something ancient
something that knew our names
before we ever learned them ourselves

So come closer still

Let your heart remain unguarded

Let mine answer it

And if the stars should witness us
let them

If the heavens should open
let them

If love should take us somewhere
neither of us can name

let it

For there are seasons
when the soul is mechanically,
pouring its pallid gold
across streets already crowded
with the ghosts of yesterday.

Faces emerge from windows,
from doorways,
from the small illuminated chambers
where human beings prepare themselves
to become necessary to the world again.

And everywhere I look
I recognize the geography of exhaustion:

the same eyes carrying
the same unspoken weather,

the same hands fastening themselves
to the machinery of another morning,

the same souls departing
for destinations they have forgotten
they ever chose.

They walk.

They hurry.

They arrive.

They return.

And beneath the immense celestial clock,
they call this living.

I wonder if the stars
watch us from their impossible distances
and mourn the peculiar tragedy
of creatures who have mistaken repetition
for destiny.

There is something almost holy
about the sadness in certain faces.

A sorrow so ancient
it no longer knows its own name.

It gathers quietly behind the eyes,
a subterranean ocean
waiting for permission to rise.

Some carry it in silence.

Some disguise it as laughter.

Some polish it into ambition,
dress it in accomplishment,
teach it how to speak
the respectable dialects of success.

But sorrow is patient.

It knows the architecture of the heart.

It waits beneath everything.

And sometimes,
when the night becomes sufficiently deep,
I retreat into dreams
where I am finally disappearing.

There is something strangely beautiful
about those dreams.

Not because death is beautiful,

but because, in the dream,
the machinery stops.

The clocks release me.

The obligations become transparent.

The names I have been carrying
fall away like ash.

And for one impossible moment
I am no longer required
to become anyone.

I simply am.

Perhaps this is why the dreaming mind
creates its own small apocalypse:

not because it longs for extinction,

but because it longs
for the extinction of everything false.

The dying self is sometimes
the first self that becomes honest.

And I awaken saddened
by the return of the world.

Morning again.

The traffic.

The voices.

The calendars.

The little rituals
by which we persuade ourselves
that movement is the same thing as direction.

Everyone running.

Everyone arriving somewhere.

Everyone wondering privately
why the destination
does not feel like home.

There are children, too.

Beautiful little beings
still carrying the luminous memory
of whatever they were
before the world taught them
to become afraid.

They wait for birthdays

as though happiness
were a country that begins
on a particular date.

They blow out candles.

They make wishes.

They are told to grow.

And something in me aches
for the child who once believed
that growing older meant
becoming more alive.

No one tells them
that adulthood can be
a room filled with mirrors
in which everyone is visible
except themselves.

No one tells them
how easily a soul can disappear
while the body continues
performing perfectly.

I remember classrooms.

The unbearable brightness
of fluorescent mornings.

The ritual of attendance.

Names spoken into the air
like incantations.

Present.

Present.

Present.

And yet there are ways
of being present
that have nothing to do
with occupying a chair.

I was there,

but unseen.

I spoke,

but the words seemed
to pass through the world
without leaving a wound.

I lifted my eyes
and discovered the peculiar terror
of being looked at
without being perceived.

There are forms of invisibility
that no magic can explain.

To be physically present
and metaphysically absent.

To stand among hundreds of people
and feel as though existence itself
has misplaced your name.

Perhaps that is the deepest loneliness:

not having no one around you,

but inhabiting a world
that does not seem to possess
a doorway into your interior.

And so we learn to hide.

We lower the eyes.

We soften the voice.

We translate our mysteries
into acceptable sentences.

We become fluent
in the language of appearing well.

Meanwhile, somewhere beneath
the obedient surface of the day,
another universe is forming.

Quietly.

Without permission.

A universe of questions.

Why are we here?

What happened to the selves
we were before the world
gave us instructions?

Why do so many people
spend their lives running
only to discover
they have been circling
the same invisible center?

Why does the human soul
remember something
the conscious mind cannot name?

And why, beneath all our noise,
does there remain
that immense and almost unbearable silence?

Sometimes I think
we are not exhausted
because life is too difficult.

I think we are exhausted
because we have spent too long
living against the grain
of our own becoming.

We have mistaken the mask
for the face.

The role
for the soul.

The itinerary
for the journey.

The cage
for the architecture of heaven.

And still—

somewhere beyond this strange theater,
the universe continues unfolding.

Nebulae bloom
without applause.

Ancient stars die
without witnesses.

Galaxies turn slowly
through immensities
that make our little tragedies
seem infinitesimal
and yet somehow
infinitely precious.

Perhaps the cosmos
is not indifferent to us.

Perhaps it is dreaming through us.

Perhaps every lonely face
is a window through which
existence briefly looks back
upon itself.

is a window through which
existence briefly looks back
upon itself.

Perhaps every tear
is a small ocean
through which consciousness
remembers the sea.

And perhaps the madness
is not that the world is broken.

Perhaps the madness
is that we have forgotten
how miraculous it is
to be alive inside it.

So I stand among

among the worn-out places,

among the people
running their ancient circles,

and I listen.

Beneath the engines,

beneath the clocks,

beneath the commerce of voices,

beneath the immense machinery
of ordinary existence,

I hear something else.

A pulse.

A whisper.

A door opening somewhere
inside the dark.

It says:

You are not the repetition.

You are not the role.

You are not the face
the world learned to recognize.

There is something in you
that existed before
the first name was spoken.

Something untouched
by the classrooms,

untouched by the calendars,

untouched by the years
that taught you how to disappear.

Something vast.

Something wordless.

Something still dreaming
beneath the ruins.

And suddenly the world
becomes stranger.

Not less sad.

Not less beautiful.

But larger.

Infinitely larger.

The streets remain crowded.

The clocks continue turning.

The faces remain familiar.

Yet behind them,

behind all of them,

I begin to sense
another world—

a world beneath the world,

where every forgotten soul
is still luminous,

where every sorrow
is secretly becoming a doorway,

where nothing that has ever been
truly felt
is ever entirely lost.

And I understand,
with a sadness too immense
for language,

that perhaps we were never meant
to escape this world.

Perhaps we were meant
to see through it.

To look into its madness
until the veil becomes transparent.

Until the ordinary reveals
its terrible radiance.

Until the familiar becomes mysterious again.

Until the exhausted face
across from us
is no longer merely a face,

but an entire universe
trying, just as we are,

to remember
why it came here.

<div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" when eternity seems to loosen its grasp upon the stars

and time becomes nothing more than a trembling veil

between two souls who have somehow recognized each other

beneath the disguises of an unfinished world

In such a moment I would surrender every horizon

for the quiet miracle of your nearness

not merely to touch your skin

but to enter that sacred interval where your presence

becomes indistinguishable from my own breathing

You are the kind of closeness

that makes heaven seem less like a distant kingdom

and more like a secret already dwelling between us

And if morning must eventually reclaim the night

let me remain here a little longer

where your warmth makes time forget its purpose

I want nothing from the world in that hour

Let its noise dissolve beyond the walls

Let its explanations become irrelevant

There are intimacies too delicate for ordinary language

truths that become smaller when spoken aloud

I only want you to know me

not the version assembled for strangers

not the carefully illuminated figure the world existence

they arrive like rain through a roof

unexpected and undeniable

and leave us standing beneath them

without shelter

And being alive has always been this paradox

to love knowing that everything is transient

to hold another consciousness close

while knowing that every moment is already becoming memory

to discover beauty precisely because nothing can remain untouched by time

So let the world misunderstand us

Let it call this longing impossible

this tenderness irrational

this recognition merely becomes a kind of scripture
when enough seasons have passed
each line a quiet river
each silver thread of hair
a constellation left behind
by nights we somehow survived

We look into the mirror
and discover that time has not stolen us
it has written us

The past does not disappear
It dissolves into the atmosphere of the soul
becoming the invisible architecture
of who we are now

Dusk becomes dawn
Dawn becomes memory
And somewhere between the two
we learn the ancient arithmetic of living
that everything given to us
will one day be gathered back

Perhaps this is the mystery
that no one truly knows
where the river begins
or where it finally surrenders itself
to the ocean

We arrive carrying questions
and leave carrying fewer answers

We lose what we thought we needed
We break open where we believed
we were strongest
We stumble through the dark
only to discover that even our falling
was teaching us the geography of grace

For sometimes
you must lose the road
to understand the journey

Half of a life may live
between the covers of remembered things
old lessons
forgotten names
the wisdom of sages
and the beautiful foolishness
of those who believed they knew

Books can teach us what the world has been
But only living can teach us
what the world means

So let us sing

Not because the world is painless
but because it is temporary

Sing for the laughter
that once filled a room
and still echoes somewhere
inside the heart

Sing for the tears
those small rivers of salt
that carried away pieces of us
we had outgrown

Sing for the years
that passed too quickly

Sing for the hands
we once held

Sing for every door
that closed behind us
and every mysterious threshold
that opened without explanation

Sing because this day
has been given to us only once

Tomorrow is a country
whose borders no one can see

And perhaps that is why
the present is sacred

Perhaps every sunrise
is the universe whispering

You are still here

There is still time to love

There is still time to become

And when the evening eventually comes
when the final light gathers itself
along the horizon
and the great unknown calls us home
may we not ask
whether we possessed enough

May we ask only

Did we feel deeply enough

Did we forgive enough

Did we dare to dream
while the stars were still visible

Did we leave some small warmth
behind us in the darkness

And if the answer is uncertain
then dream again

Dream beyond the years
that have already vanished

Dream beyond the mirror
beyond the wounds
beyond every name
you once gave to yourself

Dream as though eternity
were listening

Dream as though the universe
had hidden a door
somewhere inside your heart

Dream not because tomorrow is promised
but because dreaming itself
is an act of faith

For we are all travelers
beneath the same immeasurable sky
briefly illuminated
between one mystery and another

So sing while you can

Love while you can

Remember while you can

And when the night finally comes

close your eyes gently

carry your stories like stars

and dream on

for perhaps the greatest mystery of all
is not that our lives must end

but that knowing this

the human heart

still chooses

to dream

<div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" ambitions
its monuments to possession
its elaborate kingdoms constructed from imagined tomorrows

I want something far more ancient

I want you

Come closer

Closer until the boundary between us becomes almost imperceptible
until your warmth surrounds me
until your breath mingles with mine
until the silence between our bodies begins to feel like prayer

There is something divine in this nearness

Something that cannot be measured by time
or reason
or anything the world has invented to explain what the soul already knows

For when I look into your eyes
I do not merely see the person before me

I feel a recognition

As though some hidden chamber within my spirit whispers
there you are

As though Divinity itself had written our names
into the same unseen constellation
and allowed us to wander through separate lives
until the moment we were ready to find one another

Let me hold you with reverence

Let me feel your warmth beneath my hands
your heartbeat answering mine
your body resting against mine
while something deeper than desire awakens between us

Let our souls intertwine

Not like strangers meeting for the first time
but like two currents returning to the same river

Let tenderness become devotion
let desire become reverence
let intimacy become a sacred language
spoken without words

I want to know every quiet dimension of you

The softness you hide
the strength you carry
the places where you have been wounded
the places where you still dream
the secret chambers of your heart
where love has waited patiently to be received

And I will open those same chambers within myself

Until there are no masks between us
no guarded doors
no carefully constructed distances

Only truth

Only trust

Only the sacred unfolding of two souls
remembering how to become one

Let our bodies draw close
while our spirits draw closer still

Let your heartbeat become familiar to mine
let your breathing fall into my rhythm
let our warmth mingle
until the distinction between giving and receiving
between reaching and being reached
begins to disappear

There is a profound mystery in becoming one with another

Not through possession
but through surrender

Not by erasing who we are
but by allowing two complete souls
to meet so deeply
that something greater emerges between them

Something neither could create alone

Something luminous

Something divine

Perhaps this is what sacred love truly is

Not the disappearance of two people
but the revelation of a third space between them

A sanctuary created by trust
a temple built from tenderness
a place where two souls can rest
without fear of separation

Tonight belongs to that sanctuary

Let the world worry about tomorrow

Let it measure time
calculate outcomes
and chase whatever waits beyond the horizon

We will remain here

Breathing together

Holding each other

Allowing love to move through us
like a quiet current of Divinity

Come closer

Breathe with me

Stay

Let us intertwine until our souls seem woven from the same light

Let us surrender to the mystery of this connection

Let us become so intimately present
that the distance between you and me
becomes nothing more than an illusion

For perhaps we were never meant
to possess one another

Perhaps we were meant to recognize one another

To meet

To open

To soften

To intertwine

And in that sacred meeting
to discover that love has never been about two souls becoming less themselves

It has always been about two souls becoming more

More open
more luminous
more alive
more divine

And when we finally surrender completely to that love

when your heart rests against mine
when your warmth surrounds me
when our souls become so beautifully intertwined
that separation feels impossible

I will understand

I will understand that becoming one with you
does not mean losing myself

It means discovering a deeper self
one that could only awaken
in the presence of you

And perhaps that is the greatest mystery of all

That Divinity brought us together
not so that one of us might disappear into the other

but so that together
through sacred love
through tenderness
through trust
through the infinite intimacy of being fully known

we might become something neither of us had ever been alone

One love

One breath

One unfolding

One luminous mystery

Two souls

and somehow

one sacred home

This poem is lovingly dedicated to the memory of Nicole Terry, September 29, 1973 – October 21, 2013.

For fourteen beautiful years, we shared a love that transformed my life. On the day that changed everything, we were crossing the street when we were struck by an automobile. Nicole died. I survived.

Yet a love like ours does not simply end. Nicole taught me what it means to love deeply and to be loved completely. Her presence became part of my soul, and her absence became a silence I have carried ever since.

I will never forget her. Fourteen years was never enough, but I remain profoundly grateful that I was given the privilege of loving her and of being loved by her.

Some people leave this world, but the love they awaken within us remains eternal.

A Love Too Deep for Language

A Sensuous Poem of Love, Surrender, and Mystical world withdraws into an almost sacred stillness,
when moonlight spills like consecrated silk across the room,
and the darkness seems less an absence of light
than an ancient sanctuary in which the heart may finally speak
without the interference of reason.

It is on such nights that I think of you.

The letters I never sent
remain folded within the private architecture of my soul,
each one carrying a confession too incandescent for ordinary language—
words that waited in the dark
until longing taught them how to breathe.

I imagine you beside me then,
your warmth quietly dissolving the distance between us,
your presence transforming solitude
into something almost indistinguishable from intimacy.

I imagine reaching for your hand
and feeling that exquisite hesitation
before our fingers entwine—
that infinitesimal moment when desire becomes recognition,
when two separate lives seem to remember
that perhaps they were never entirely separate.

I would look into your eyes
and wonder whether you could see there
the things language has never been capable of saying.

I love you.

Not with the fleeting ardor of possession,
but with something more mysterious—
a devotion that does not seek to confine,
but to behold.

I love the imagined softness of your skin beneath my fingertips,
the warmth of your body when I draw you toward me,
the quiet fragrance of you lingering upon the pillow,
the vulnerable beauty of your face
when sleep has dissolved every defense.

I imagine kissing you slowly,
not because I am uncertain of my desire,
but because certain moments deserve to be prolonged
until time itself becomes irrelevant.

Your lips beneath mine.

Your breath mingling with mine.

The quiet surrender of two bodies
discovering that tenderness can be as profound as desire,
and desire, when touched by love,
can become almost sacramental.

Perhaps this is what romance truly is:

not merely the intoxication of wanting another,
but the profound privilege of being entrusted
with the hidden geography of their heart.

I would want to know yours.

The places where you are tender.
The memories that still ache.
The dreams you rarely speak aloud.
The silences that ask not to be solved,
but simply accompanied.

I would learn you slowly,
as one learns a constellation—
not by possessing the stars,
but by returning to them night after night
until their pattern becomes familiar.

And perhaps, someday,
I would wake beside you
while dawn gathered quietly at the window.

I would watch the first light touch your face
and wonder how something so ordinary
could feel so impossibly miraculous.

I would brush my fingers gently across your cheek,
kiss your forehead,
and remain beside you in that fragile interval
between sleep and waking
where the soul seems closest to the surface.

Outside, the world would begin its accustomed movement.

Inside, there would be only us.

Your head against my chest.

My hand resting softly upon your back.

The rhythmic intimacy of breathing together.

No declarations.

No explanations.

Only the quiet knowledge
that I had awakened beside the person
whose absence I had somehow been feeling
before I ever knew your name.

And when evening returned,
the rooms would gradually surrender their light,
one after another,
until the moon became the sole witness
to our private universe.

Its cold radiance would bleach the familiar world of color,
turning crimson to shadow,
gold to ivory,
and certainty into mystery.

Yet beside you,
I would understand something the darkness cannot conceal:

that reality is partly an act of perception,
and that love possesses its own peculiar alchemy.

Your eyes would make the night luminous.

Your touch would make silence audible.

Your nearness would make the impossible
feel strangely inevitable.

Perhaps truth is not something we can finally articulate.

Perhaps truth is that trembling instant
when your lips meet mine
and every intellectual defense falls away.

Perhaps it is the moment
when I pull you gently against me
and feel your heartbeat answering mine.

Perhaps it is the recognition
that intimacy is not merely the joining of bodies,
but the gradual unveiling of souls—
each layer surrendered without coercion,
each secret received without judgment.

And perhaps love is the most beautiful mystery of all:

that two solitary beings
can encounter one another across the immense architecture of existence
and, for a little while,
make the universe feel like home.

So let the letters remain unwritten.

Let the moon preserve what we cannot articulate.

Let the gathering darkness descend around us
until there is nothing left between us
except breath, warmth, tenderness, and truth.

For some truths are too profound to be spoken.

They must be felt beneath the fingertips.

Whispered against the lips.

Discovered in the quiet vulnerability
of being held by someone who sees you completely
and does not turn away.

I love you.

Yes—

I love you with the ache of midnight
and the gentleness of dawn,
with the hunger of the body
and the reverence of the soul.

I love you not as an answer,
but as a mystery I would willingly spend eternity exploring.

And if there is such a thing as destiny,
perhaps it is nothing more—and nothing less—
than this:

two wandering souls
finding one another beneath an ancient moon,

and realizing, with a tenderness almost too immense to bear,

that they have finally arrived
where their hearts
had been waiting all along.

The Piper Beyond gold
appearance for revelation
and the glittering architecture of the world
for the hidden geometry of eternity

So he climbed

Not toward heaven
but toward the remembrance
of what heaven had always concealed

Each step was a question
Each question a threshold
Each threshold another shedding
of the man he had believed himself to be

And somewhere beneath the visible world
the ancient river continued singing

Its waters carried no answers

Only remembrance

Beside it a solitary bird
uttered one note into the dusk
and the forests deepened

And then came the Piper

Not a man of flesh
but a current moving through the world
a frequency hidden inside wind
blood
river
thunder
and the sudden silence
before awakening

He heard it calling

Not to somewhere else

To somewhere within

Two roads appeared beneath his feet

One descended toward certainty
where names were fixed
and every mystery was given
a comfortable explanation

The other disappeared
into the uncharted wilderness
of his own consciousness

He chose the mourn it

For beneath the collapsing architecture
of the familiar self
another presence emerged

Vast
nameless
uncontained

He understood then
why the mystics spoke in paradox

Why they pointed toward silence

Why they called the doorway
a void

Why the final treasure
was always hidden
inside the relinquishment
of the one who sought earth
became translucent

He descended
until there was nowhere left to go

And there

in that sacred nowhere

he encountered himself

Not the self that remembered his history

Not the self that answered to a name

Not the self reflected
by the worlds innumerable mirrors

But the ancient witness
behind the witnessing

The silent before the senses can testify to its presence.

It is the hidden seed beneath winter’s silence,
the invisible grammar beneath creation,
the unspoken intelligence by which darkness
quietly surrenders itself to dawn.

Faith does not require the universe
to disclose its mysteries prematurely.
It asks only that we remain receptive
to what cannot yet be comprehended—
that we listen beneath the clamor of reason
for the still, primordial voice
that speaks without sound.

For the visible world itself
was once concealed within the invisible.
Every sunrise was once potential darkness;
every constellation, an unimagined flame;
every beginning, a mystery
before it became a thing we could name.

Perhaps this is the deepest wisdom of faith:
the soul may apprehend a truth
before the intellect possesses language for it.

There are realities still gestating
beyond the threshold of perception,
doors whose hinges have not yet turned,
and beginnings concealed within endings
we were certain had exhausted their meaning.

So let faith be neither rigid certainty
nor an escape from uncertainty,
but a profound intimacy with mystery—
the courage to remain open
when revelation has not yet arrived.

For the unseen is not necessarily absent.

Sometimes it is It was something more elusive: an almost primordial familiarity, as though some forgotten language of the soul had suddenly become intelligible.

Your presence altered the atmosphere around me.

A glance became an invitation.

A silence became intimate.

The smallest distance between us acquired its own gravity.

And I discovered that I wanted not merely to touch you, but to be known by you—to allow your attention to wander into those concealed territories of myself I had spent years protecting from observation.

The tender places.

The unfinished places.

The secret places where longing had learned to speak in whispers.

You did not demand access.

You waited.

And somehow, your patience became the key.

There is an extraordinary sensuality in being received without being hurried.

To have someone look at you long enough to notice what exists beneath the practiced expression.

To feel their attention resting upon you without judgment.

To sense, in the quiet interval between two breaths, that they are not merely seeing your body, but listening to the language your presence is speaking.

With you, intimacy became less an act of revelation than a gradual surrender of concealment.

I began to soften.

Not because I was weak,

but because I no longer felt compelled to remain defended.

Your nearness became a kind of permission.

To breathe more deeply.

To linger.

To let silence remain unfinished.

To feel the warmth of your body beside mine and recognise how profoundly human it is to desire not possession, but proximity—the simple, almost sacred privilege of being near someone whose presence makes the inner world feel less solitary.

There were moments when nothing happened,

and yet everything did.

A hand resting quietly in mine.

Your breath moving softly through the darkness.

The almost imperceptible pause before we touched.

The way your eyes remained upon mine a moment longer than necessary.

Such moments carried an intimacy language could scarcely contain.

They were not merely sensual.

They were ontological.

They altered the very experience of being alive.

And slowly, almost imperceptibly, our lives began to interpenetrate.

Your sorrow acquired a place within my compassion.

My tenderness found refuge within your understanding.

Your silence became something I could sit beside.

My vulnerability became something you could hold without attempting to cure.

We were not erasing one another’s boundaries.

We were becoming intimate with the sacred geography beyond them.

Perhaps that is what it means for two souls to become intertwined.

Not disappearance.

Not possession.

But permeability.

The willingness to allow another consciousness to touch the deepest chambers of your own without surrendering the sovereignty of who you are.

Two separate flames,
not extinguished by proximity,
but made more luminous by sharing the same darkness.

And somewhere within that unfolding, I realised:

I no longer wanted merely to be loved by you.

I wanted to inhabit the world in which your existence was possible.

To know the cadence of your laughter.

The architecture of your silences.

The particular softness that enters your voice when you are tired.

The warmth of your skin beneath my fingertips.

The subtle changes in your breathing when you draw close.

Not because I wanted to possess these things,

but because knowing them felt like being entrusted with something sacred.

You became less like someone I had encountered
and more like a landscape my soul had slowly learned to inhabit.

And perhaps this is the mystery of profound love:

We do not become one by ceasing to be two.

We become one through the astonishing intimacy of remaining wholly ourselves while allowing another person to become woven into the deepest fabric of our becoming.

You remain you.

I remain me.

And still, somewhere between your heartbeat and mine, there is an invisible place where separation grows quiet.

A place made of breath, tenderness, longing, trust, and luminous surrender.

A place where the body becomes a doorway to the soul.

Where a kiss can feel like remembrance.

Where an embrace can feel like returning.

Where desire becomes almost indistinguishable from devotion.

And when I imagine us there, beneath the immense and indifferent stars, I no longer think of two lost souls who happened to find one another.

I think of two ancient wanderers
finally arriving at the same threshold.

Two fragments of night
recognising the same light.

Two lives, once solitary,
now carrying one another’s presence
like a secret warmth beneath the skin.

Perhaps we were never meant to complete each other.

Perhaps we were meant to awaken each other.

To become more permeable to wonder.

More courageous with tenderness.

More willing to be seen.

More willing to love without armour.

And if, in that sacred unfolding, our souls sometimes feel indistinguishable—

if your joy trembles through me,

if my longing finds its echo in you,

if the distance between our hearts becomes so delicate that even silence cannot quite divide us—

then perhaps that is the closest language has ever come to explaining

what it means

for two lost souls

to find one another,

to intertwine,

and, without either one disappearing,

to become

something greater than either could have imagined alone.

An Invitation to Be Astonished

Perhaps the most beautiful form of experience is allowing life to exceed crimson,
then gold,
and suddenly the universe
was no longer something to behold—
it was something reaching for me.

I began to understand
that the lines I had been taught to the skin,
the whisper beneath certainty,
the ancient compass of intuition
pointing toward what the mind
could never fully explain.

For there are moments
when thinking becomes a earth
and breath,
bone and starlight,
gravity and longing.

I can weep beneath the heavens
and still belong to them.
I can lose myself in the music
and somehow become more travel in straight lines.

It circles.
It descends.
It rises.
It returns transformed.

And perhaps divinity
is not found by escaping our humanity,
but by inhabiting it completely—
by feeling the wind,
receiving the moment,
loving without guarantees,
and daring to follow the path
that has no map.

So I surrender to the turning.

I
