Times were tough. Gas prices had doubled, groceries were climbing by the week, and thriving on a single income felt impossible. I knew I had to get creative and find a way to bring in extra money. My job at the electric company—taking endless customer calls—just wasn’t cutting it. And with my schedule stretching past six o’clock most evenings, a second job wasn’t realistic.

So I started searching online for something I could do from home or around the neighborhood. Nothing matched my skill set. Sure, I had great customer service experience, but I couldn’t stomach another hour dealing with disgruntled customers. Data engineering? Absolutely not. Half the job listings sounded like a foreign language.

It felt like all I really knew how to do was cook, clean, and make people feel cared for. Wait… that sparked an idea. There were plenty of single men in my neighborhood who didn’t have the time—or desire—to cook or keep their homes tidy. Maybe I could offer simple cooking and cleaning services.

I quickly put together a digital flyer, added a cute selfie, and hoped my friendly face might help draw in business. Then I posted it on the community website and waited.
