Sunday, August 30th, is the 5th Sunday of the month, which means it's our Parish-wide Potluck meal! Liturgical Baking Afternoon — September 18th

Join us on Friday, September 18th for an afternoon of liturgical baking. Jordan Young, Amy Forkner, and I will be teaching anyone interested in learning how to bake Prosphora and Litya bread.

We’ll begin at 1:00pm and expect to finish up around 5:00pm. All are welcome, whether you’re a first-timer or looking to refine your technique. Come learn a craft that’s been part of our tradition for centuries.

What you first need to do is visit the following URL and log in using your email address or phone number (the same email you used on the initial inquiry form for the parish):

After logging in, you can allow others to contact you by clicking the box at the bottom (indicated with the red arrow). I also recommend uploading a photo.

Given our unprecedented growth, to optimize our space and maintain a neat and honorable appearance in our temple, please conduct exchange of goods between parishioners in person.  Please do not leave items of any sort in the parish buildings or on the grounds for someone to pick up at another time.  

Additionally, any items in the Lost and Found bins in the bookshelves located in the Narthex or on the coat rack in the hallway will be removed and donated on a quarterly basis.  We will attempt to remind the parish prior to the next removal date but we cannot ascertain that things that are newly misplaced will not be donated so please check these areas frequently and make every attempt to take all your personal belongings with you when you leave the building at every visit.

Forgive me for forgetting two additional details for our feast tomorrow:

1. It is customary on the Feast of the Dormition to bless flowers and fragrant herbs at the end of the Liturgy. Flowers and herbs can be brought to the parish and placed on the small table in the nave.

2. There will be a brief children’s activity related to the feast after Liturgy tomorrow. Children can head outside during the announcements. Mka Emilia will be leading the activity.

Brothers and Sisters,

We have a busy weekend ahead! Tomorrow at 6pm, we will serve the Festal Vigil for the Dormition of the Theotokos. The following day, Saturday, we will celebrate the Festal Divine Liturgy at 9am, preceded by the Hours at 8:40am.

A light Coffee Hour will follow the Liturgy, during which we will break our fast. The Building Committee will also meet at 11:30am in the basement on Saturday.

But wait, there’s more! On Saturday afternoon, the Intro to Orthodoxy class will meet at 3:30pm. Participants, please read the Introduction and Chapter 1 of The Orthodox Way before class.

On Saturday night, we will serve Great Vespers at 5pm (as is our custom), and the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Sunday at 10am. NOTE: There will be no Matins on Sunday morning; instead, we will serve the 3rd and 6th Hours at 9:40am.

Glory to Jesus Christ! Tomorrow, Wednesday 8/5, we will hold the Festal Vigil for the Feast of Transfiguration at 6pm. The Festal Vigil includes Great Vespers, the blessing of the five loaves (Litya), and Matins.

On the following day, Thursday 8/6, we will celebrate the Festal Divine Liturgy at 9am, with the 3rd and 6th Hours at 8:40am. After the Divine Liturgy, we will bless fruits and vegetables, as is customary for this sacred feast. A table will be set aside in the nave for produce.

A small, fast-friendly Coffee Hour will follow the Divine Liturgy. Everyone is welcome to bring a food offering. Fish, wine, and oil are permitted on Transfiguration.

Kitchen Announcement

In an effort to protect the health and welfare of our parishioners and preserve the limited spaces we have in the kitchen, effective immediately, please label ALL food that is placed in the refrigerator or freezer with the name of the recipient (i.e., Sally’s meal train), or intended usage (coffee hour), and, most importantly, the date the food is placed there. If refrigerated items are not retrieved by the recipient or consumed within 3-4 days of deposit in the refrigerator, the food will be discarded. Please note that this does not include condiments or other unopened prepackaged items that have a stated expiration date. It also does not include liturgical breads.

As our parish has grown, it is unfortunate, but a consequence of this is that we cannot continue to accommodate the refrigeration of personal food. If you bring a meal, beverage, or other item for yourself, your family, or to pass on to someone else, we ask that you provide your own personal refrigeration. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

In an effort to protect the health and welfare of our parishioners and preserve the limited spaces we have in the kitchen, effective immediately, please label ALL food that is placed in the refrigerator or freezer with the name of the recipient (i.e., Sally’s meal train), or intended usage (coffee hour), and, most importantly, the date the food is placed there. If refrigerated items are not retrieved by the recipient or consumed within 3-4 days of deposit in the refrigerator, the food will be discarded. Please note that this does not include condiments or other unopened prepackaged items that have a stated expiration date. It also does not include liturgical breads.

As our parish has grown, it is unfortunate, but a consequence of this is that we cannot continue to accommodate the refrigeration of personal food. If you bring a meal, beverage, or other item for yourself, your family, or to pass on to someone else, we ask that you provide your own personal refrigeration. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Men’s Cooking Class

Gentlemen, It’s Time to Hit the Kitchen!
Join us for a new Men’s Cooking Class! The class is designed for beginners, but all are welcome. We’ll learn practical meals that are simple enough to make at home for you or your family.

• When: Thursday evenings July 2nd, 9th, 23rd, 30th, August 6th and 13th.

• Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Introduction to Orthodoxy will be meeting this week on Saturday. Please read the assigned chapters in How to be a Sinner for this Saturday. We will discuss the chapters and continue our discussion of the 55 maxims.

The women’s group will be meeting again Tuesday August 11th to discuss the book “The Quotidian Mysteries”

Breakdown:

• Part 2 (August 11 discussion): Read through the section break on page 60. This discussion will be hosted at the Schwab’s residence.

• Part 3 (September discussion): Read through the section break on page 88 (the end of the book).

St Pachomius Men’s Meeting

The men’s group will be meeting on Tuesday July 21st 7 PM at the Hoppe residence to discuss the book "Flames of Wisdom - Spiritual Teachings for Daily Life".

This meeting will cover Chapter 1: St. Seraphim of Sarov: On the acquisition of the Holy Spirit, and Chapter 2: St Silouan: On Knowing God. There are several copies in the bookstore.

Blessingway for Expectant Mothers

A Blessingway for expectant mothers will take place at the parish next Sunday, 7/19, during Coffee Hour. All women are invited.

Annual Church School Day

Please note that the registration deadline is this Sunday, 7/12. Join us for our third annual Church School Day on Saturday, July 25th! The day will begin with Divine Liturgy at 9 am, followed by a potluck lunch, and then lessons and activities for children ages 5 and up. All children under 5 are welcome at liturgy and lunch.
