La realtà, però, è molto meno trascendente. Dietro questi Rundowns si nasconde un meccanismo psicologico ed economico che trasforma la vulnerabilità in colpa, e la colpa in profitto.

La Promessa dell’Onnipotenza: Sempre Avanti, Mai Raggiunta

Gli LS Rundowns vengono presentati come tecnologia spirituale d’élite, riservata a chi ha già scalato gran parte del labirinto di corsi e auditing dell’organizzazione. Dovrebbero liberare la mente, amplificare la consapevolezza, sbloccare capacità quasi sovrumane.

Eppure la struttura del “ponte” di Scientology garantisce che la trasformazione promessa sia sempre un passo più avanti:

• Paghi in anticipo.

• Ti impegni completamente.

• Aspetti i risultati.

E quando i risultati non arrivano — perché non arrivano mai — la spiegazione non è che il Rundown ha fallito. La spiegazione sei tu.

L’Economia della Colpa: Pagare per il Fallimento del Metodo

Uno degli aspetti più rivelatori degli LS Rundowns non è solo il loro costo, ma la logica che lo circonda.

Se qualcosa non funziona, non ricevi un rimborso. Ricevi una diagnosi.

Ti viene detto che:

• hai “crimini nascosti”,

• stai trattenendo informazioni,

• sei “out-ethics”,

• hai “engram” irrisolti,

La Patologizzazione del Dubbio

Because there is a mental mechanism that every human being uses, every single day, without exception. It’s not a defect, not a disorder, not a sign of weakness. It’s simply human.

And yet, if you don’t recognize it, it sabotages you. If you do recognize it, it frees you.

It’s called the Service Facsimile.

It is one of the most useful concepts Hubbard ever formulated. And, paradoxically, it is also one of the least understood.

What is a Service Facsimile, really?

In technical terms, it is:

a calculation, an aberrated thought, created by the person (not by the bank or reactive mind), used to explain one’s failures and justify one’s inability to cope with situations.

It is a facsimile because it is a mental image picture. It is of service because it “serves” the person.

What does it serve?

• to justify a failure,

• to avoid responsibility,

• to obtain sympathy or cooperation,

• to dominate others or escape their domination,

• to protect one’s self‑image,

• to make others “wrong.”

It is a thought that defends ourselves, not the truth.

How does a Service Facsimile arise?

Hubbard explains it with surgical precision.

1. Attempt → Failure → Sympathy

The mechanism originates from an incident in which:

• we tried to do something,

• we were hurt or failed,

• we received sympathy.

That incident becomes a “model.” The mind records: “When I fail, if I use this explanation, I get understanding.”

2. The model gets reused

Every time we fail, we pick up that same thought and use it as an excuse, a justification, a shield.

3. If sympathy doesn’t come…

The mechanism intensifies: it can turn into a psychosomatic illness, a disability, or a “sadly noble” attitude.

The Service Facsimile becomes an aberrated survival strategy.

The three fundamental functions of a Service Facsimile

Every Service Facsimile performs three actions simultaneously:

1. It makes us “right” and others “wrong”

“It’s not my fault. It’s yours, or the environment’s.”

2. It helps us dominate or escape domination

“I can’t manage on my own, you must help me.” Or: “You can’t demand that from me.”

3. It protects our survival while hindering the survival of others

“If you don’t support me, I’ll get worse.” “If you disagree with me, you’re harming me.”

It is a distorted survival mechanism: it works in the short term, but harms us in the long term.

Everyday examples (everyone will recognize these)

• “I can’t change, that’s just how I am.”

• “It’s not my fault, it’s the environment.”

• “If you criticize me, you make me feel bad.”

• “I can’t succeed because I have this problem.”

• “If you don’t help me, I’ll get worse.”

• “I can’t be responsible, I have this condition.”

These thoughts are not logical. They are useful. They protect our self‑image, help us avoid responsibility, and secure cooperation.

Why is it important to recognize them?

Because the Service Facsimile is a mental cage.

Every time we use it:

• we give up growth,

• we give up change,

• we give up improvement,

• we give up responsibility,

• we give up freedom.

It is a thought that keeps us stuck, frozen, immobilized.

And the most dangerous part is that it works. It works so well that we use it without noticing.

There are no immune people. There are only people who recognize it… and people who are ruled by it.

How to get rid of it (in everyday life)

No complex technique is needed. What’s needed is observation.

1. Recognize the thought

Ask yourself: “Am I looking for an explanation… or an excuse?”

2. See the hidden benefit

“Does this thought protect me? Justify me? Spare me responsibility?”

3. Replace the immediate benefit with a real one

Instead of: “I can’t do it.” → “I can take one small step.”

Instead of: “It’s your fault.” → “What can I do?”

Instead of: “I can’t change.” → “I can change one small thing.”

A Service Facsimile dissolves when it stops being useful.

Conclusion

For the purpose of maximum precision, the proper handling of this phenomena, will not happen by mere observation. I’ve kept the article very simple, but by real practice, I’ve had very nice results when the specific procedure was used to discharge the insanity produced by these apparent helpful computations. Nobody has ever become free of them, just by spotting their existence.

• a rendere gli altri “sbagliati”.

È un pensiero che difende noi stessi, non la verità.

Come nasce un Service Facsimile?

Hubbard lo spiega con una precisione chirurgica.

1. Tentativo → Fallimento → Compassione

Il meccanismo nasce da un episodio in cui:

• abbiamo provato a fare qualcosa,

• siamo stati feriti o abbiamo fallito,

• abbiamo ricevuto simpatia.

Quell’episodio diventa un “modello”. La mente registra: “Quando fallisco, se uso questa spiegazione, ottengo comprensione.”

2. Il modello viene riutilizzato

Ogni volta che falliamo, riprendiamo quel pensiero e lo usiamo come scusa, come giustificazione, come protezione.

3. Se la simpatia non arriva…

Il meccanismo si intensifica: può diventare una malattia psicosomatica, una disabilità, un atteggiamento “nobile e triste”.

Il Service Facsimile diventa così un metodo di sopravvivenza aberrato.

Le tre funzioni fondamentali del Service Facsimile

Ogni Service Facsimile fa tre cose contemporaneamente:

1. Rende noi “giusti” e gli altri “sbagliati”

“Non è colpa mia. È colpa tua, o dell’ambiente.”

2. Ci aiuta a dominare o a sfuggire alla dominazione

“Non posso farcela da solo, devi aiutarmi.” Oppure: “Non puoi pretendere questo da me.”

3. Protegge la nostra sopravvivenza mentre ostacola quella degli altri

“Se non mi sostieni, peggioro.” “Se non mi dai ragione, mi fai del male.”

È un meccanismo di sopravvivenza distorto: funziona nel breve termine, ma ci danneggia nel lungo.

Esempi quotidiani (che tutti riconosceranno)

• “Non posso cambiare, sono fatto così.”

• “Non è colpa mia, è l’ambiente.”

• “Se mi critichi, mi fai stare male.”

• “Non posso riuscire perché ho questo problema.”

• “Se non mi aiuti, peggioro.”

• “Non posso essere responsabile, ho questa condizione.”

Questi pensieri non sono logici. Sono utili. Servono a proteggere l’immagine di sé, a evitare responsabilità, a ottenere cooperazione.

Perché è importante riconoscerli?

Perché il Service Facsimile è una gabbia mentale.

Ogni volta che lo usiamo:

• rinunciamo a crescere,

• rinunciamo a cambiare,

• rinunciamo a migliorare,

• rinunciamo alla responsabilità,

• rinunciamo alla libertà.

È un pensiero che ci tiene fermi, immobili, bloccati.

E la cosa più pericolosa è che funziona. Funziona così bene che lo usiamo senza accorgercene.

Non esistono persone immuni. Esistono solo persone che lo riconoscono… e persone che lo subiscono.

Come liberarsene (nella vita quotidiana)

Non serve alcuna tecnica complessa. Serve osservazione.

1. Riconoscere il pensiero

Chiedersi: “Sto cercando una spiegazione… o una scusa?”

2. Vedere il vantaggio nascosto

“Questo pensiero mi protegge? Mi giustifica? Mi evita responsabilità?”

3. Sostituire il vantaggio immediato con uno reale

Invece di: “Non posso farcela.” → “Posso fare un piccolo passo.”

Invece di: “È colpa tua.” → “Cosa posso fare io?”

Invece di: “Non posso cambiare.” → “Posso cambiare una cosa minima.”

Il Service Facsimile si scioglie quando smette di essere utile.

Conclusione

Il Service Facsimile non è un difetto. Non è una malattia. Non è un segno di debolezza.

È un meccanismo umano, universale, inevitabile.

Ma è anche un meccanismo che possiamo vedere, comprendere, disinnescare.

La libertà non sta nel non fallire. Sta nel non dover inventare scuse per farlo.

P.S. Uno degli esempi più diffusi, che chiunque abbia mai osservato, è quello del bambino che vuole qualcosa, ma gli viene negato. Impara presto la nozione che se piange o si comporta in modo fastidioso, ottiene ciò che vuole. Le madri ci cascano quasi sempre. E il bimbo diventa un attore da oscar.

It was 1983. I was passionate about night spearfishing, and every now and then I would go out alone, even though it wasn’t exactly the safest idea. On a moonless night at the end of November—maybe the 23rd—I took my Fiat 127 and drove to Cava Usai, in Villasimius, a place I already knew well.

After the usual preparations, I entered the water around 9 PM. There wasn’t a soul anywhere, and I went on with my dive. It wasn’t a great night, and after two hours the catch was nothing special. Around 11 PM I got out and prepared to head home.

During the drive, on the downhill hairpin turns after the Solanas tower, I noticed the tires were a bit deflated, making the car fishtail slightly in the curves. I thought to myself, “I need to be careful or I’ll end up off the road.” I barely managed two more kilometers before, in one curve, the car skidded. While trying to correct it, I found myself zig‑zagging with two choices: either fly off the road down a drop on the left—no guardrail—or hit the ditch on the right, against the rock wall.

I hit the rock wall. The impact flipped the car onto the driver’s side. The only way out was to climb up through the passenger side, denting the door with my weight. I had installed a gas system and was running on LPG, but because of the car’s position, gasoline was dripping from the tank cap. It was 11:30 PM, no one around, and the car was far too heavy for me to lift back upright.

The sky was clear, and strangely enough I didn’t feel cold at all. Mobile phones didn’t exist, and I had no way to call for help.

After about half an hour, a car passed by. I waved frantically, and they stopped. The guy wasn’t particularly sharp and asked me what he should do. He helped me get the car upright, and I asked him to notify the police or anyone who could assist. Meanwhile, I tried starting the engine—luckily it fired up immediately. I put it in reverse to get out of the ditch, and everything seemed fine except for the damage.

But when I tried to shift into first gear, the gearbox was stuck. Only reverse worked. The guy had already left, and no help ever arrived.

Since I was on a downhill stretch, I let the car roll until I reached a small bridge over the Solanas stream. I noticed water flowing and used it to refill the battery, which had lost some fluid while the car was tilted.

At that point, the only way to get home was to drive in reverse up the slope until the next downhill section. I tried to maneuver, but my sweating instantly fogged up the windows, and I couldn’t see anything through the rear hatch. To make matters worse, the car didn’t even have a reverse light—back then it wasn’t standard.

The solution was to open the rear hatch and drive while pressing the accelerator and brake just enough to activate the rear lights, but not enough to lock the wheels. Thankfully there was no traffic, or I might have had another accident.

I reached the top of the Solanas curve, right where the famous Rosa dei Venti is, and I was about to make another maneuver. It was around 2 AM when, unexpectedly, two mopeds appeared—back then we simply called them motorini—each carrying two people. Hard to believe, but on one moped the passenger had his arm in a cast, and on the other the passenger had a cast on his leg.

They stopped and asked what had happened. I explained my misadventure, and luckily one of them was a mechanic. He immediately understood the issue with the stuck gear. He had me open the hood, spotted that the gear‑shift linkage had come loose, and said we needed something to reconnect it.

A key‑ring loop was the quickest solution—and it worked perfectly.

I couldn’t believe it. The car was fully controllable again. I thanked them sincerely and continued my journey home. I arrived around 3:30 AM, and despite everything, I didn’t have a single scratch. Only the bodywork was dented, and the door was inevitably damaged.

It was my last night spearfishing trip, and I will never forget it.

Non faccio a tempo a fare 2 Km e in una curva, la macchina sbanda, e nel tentativo di bilanciarla mi ritrovo in un zig zag che mi dava due opzioni: 1 finire fuori strada in una scarpata a sinistra, senza guard-rail o il cunettone a destra con la parete di roccia. Son finito nella parete, e l’impatto ha fatto ribaltare la macchina sul lato del guidatore. L’unico modo per uscirne era quella di salire dal lato passeggero, ammaccando lo sportello col mio peso. Avevo installato l’impianto a gas e stavo utilizzando tale carburante, ma la posizione del veicolo stava facendo gocciolare la benzina dal tappo del serbatoio. sono le 23,30 e non passa anima viva, l’auto è troppo pesante e non riesco a rimetterla diritta con le mie forze. Il cielo è sereno e non sento minimamente freddo. I cellulari non esistevano e non avevo alcun modo di chiedere aiuto a nessuno. Cerco di innestare la prima per fare manovra, ma il cambio è bloccato, solo la retromarcia è utilizzabile. Il tipo nel frattempo è andato via e non è mai arrivato alcun soccorso inviato da lui. Nel frattempo, visto che ero in discesa, faccio scendere il veicolo in posizione frontale, tenendo la frizione premuta, disattivando la retromarcia, fino al punto in cui c’è un ponticello, sul rivolo di Solanas. Noto che è presente acqua e ne aprofitto per ripristinare la batteria che aveva perso del liquido durante la posizione inclinata. A quel punto l’unico modo per andare verso casa, era quello di muovermi in retromarcia, nel tratto in salita, fino alla prossima discesa. Faccio manovra per tale proposito, ma il mio livello di sudorazione, appanna all’istante i vetri e non vedo nulla dal portellone posteriore. Se poi non bastasse, non avevo manco la luce di retromarcia, che al tempo non era di serie. La soluzione fù quella di aprire il portellone e guidare premendo acceleratore e freno giusto il tanto per attivare la luce, ma non il blocco delle ruote. Per fortuna che non c’era traffico o avrei rischiato un altra collisione. Arrivai fino alla sommità della curva di Solanas, proprio dove c’è la famosa Rosa dei venti, e mi stavo apprestando a fare un altra inversione di marcia. Erano circa le 2 di notte a quel punto e inaspettatamente vedo 2 motorini, si chiamavano così a quel tempo, con 2 persone su ognuno. Sembra difficile da credere, ma su uno c’era un ragazzo col braccio ingessato, su un altro era ingessata la gamba. Si fermano e mi chiedono cosa sia successo. Gli spiego un pò la mia disavventura, e per fortuna uno di essi era un meccanico, che capì subito il problema della marcia bloccata. Mi fece aprire il cofano, notò subito che si era sganciato il meccanismo del cambio marce e serviva qualcosa per riagganciarlo. Un anello portachiavi fù la soluzione più rapida, che risolse il problema in modo stabile. Non mi sembrò vero, la macchina era tornata governabile. Li ringraziai di cuore e ripresi il percorso verso casa. Arrivai che erano circa le 3,30 e nonostante tutto non mi ero fatto manco un graffio. Solo la carrozzeria era ammaccata e lo sportello era inevitabilmente danneggiato.

Fù la mia ultima uscita di pesca notturna e non la dimenticherò mai.
