And I hated it.

But underneath that, there was something else. A part of me secretly wished I could believe. Wished that this religious thing could actually work for me, could actually be something I leaned on, because the truth is, I didn’t believe in anything. I just went through the motions, sitting in a pew, waiting for it to be over, while some quiet part of me kept wondering what it would feel like to actually have faith in something.

Years later, as I grew into my own spirituality, I found myself in doubt and fear more often than I want to admit. And what made it worse wasn’t the doubt itself. It was how isolated I felt inside it. I was doing all this work alone, in my own head, with no one to go to, no community to lean on.

It was during the 30-day Spiritual Detox that I noticed something. I kept wishing I had a place to go, every week or every other week, to recalibrate my faith. To realign with the frequency of trust. To step out of my own intellectual isolation, even just for an hour. I wanted my own version of a church.

You know that feeling when you’re listening to a podcast, or a talk, and something lands so deep you want to shout “preach!” out loud? I wanted a place where that feeling wasn’t something I experienced alone through my earbuds. I wanted to reconnect, on a regular basis, with people who felt that same pull, but without the religious doctrine attached to it. Free to build our own version of spirituality, whatever that means for each of us.

That’s the story behind Sunday Spiritual Church.

I want to be really clear about something, because the name can be misleading. There is no religion here. No dogma, no doctrine, no single belief system I’m asking you to sign onto. This isn’t about what you should believe. It’s about the practice of coming back, on purpose, out of your head and into your body, week after week.

Because that’s really what this is. A weekly ritual, not a teaching. The goal isn’t to learn something new every time. The goal is to show up, every week, and recalibrate. To get out of your head, out of the spinning and the analyzing and the doubting, and drop back down into your body, into trust, into faith in something bigger than you, and in yourself.

Here’s how it’ll work. Every Sunday at 8am, a new rituel drops as part of our podcast, and it becomes the anchor for our week, our ritual together. And I’ll be right there in the chat from 8 to 11, so it’s not just something you experience alone through your earbuds. We can gather, chit-chat, be in it together.

These rituals, Sunday Spiritual Church, are only available to paying members. this space asks something real of you, real presence, real devotion, and I wanted the space itself to reflect that same level of commitment back.

Here’s how you can join us. There’s a monthly option, at 20 dollars a month, or if you’d rather commit for the year, 200 dollars covers the whole year. And if you want to go even deeper, there’s a founding member option, at 333 dollars, which includes a private weekly touchpoint with me directly, one question, answered just for you, every week, alongside everything else.

Prices will go up next month in October.

Whichever way you choose to join, you’ll get full access to every ritual, the complete archive, and a space to actually talk it through with the rest of us, comments and chat, so you’re never sitting with any of this alone in your own head.

Let’s go to church !

Where did you let yourself go?

Believe in yourself as much as you believe in the Universe

Tamara

We believe in the Universe but not in ourselves. When things (projects, dreams, launches, jobs, etc.) don’t work right away, we tell ourselves (and other people) that we are resilient and letting go of what we want.

It must be that the Universe wants something different for me.

You believe that the Universe will guide you and support you. But when it’s time to believe in yourself — to be brave enough not to be attached to a timeline, to have faith in your desires, to be courageous enough to take the bold action the Universe is guiding you toward — you let go.

When we hear stories like Colonel Sanders of KFC, how he had to believe in himself enough to keep going even though he went through rejection after rejection, we feel inspired. But when we try something and it doesn’t work right away, we’re afraid of forcing things. Of being too pushy.

That’s what I used to tell myself: don’t try to control what the Universe wants you to go. Don’t force things!

Releasing control is on the HOW and the WHEN — but not the WHAT.

But I’ve done this so many times I’ve lost count. Wanted something so badly I could feel it in my heart, and then, somewhere along the way, quietly stopped believing I was allowed to have it. It got safer to call myself resilient for letting it go than to keep wanting something I wasn’t sure I’d get.

But there’s a difference between pushing/forcing and staying in faith toward what you want.

It’s forcing an outcome vs. remaining devoted to a desire without needing to control how or when it happens.

Again, releasing control is on the HOW and the WHEN — but not the WHAT.

“This has to work.”
vs.
“I don’t know how this is going to happen. But I still believe in what I’m being called toward.”

Forcing is trying to control everything around the result you want. You look at what isn’t working and immediately think:

What else should I change (emails)?

What strategy am I missing (Lives)?

What should I do differently (maybe people don’t get me)?

Maybe I need to do more (I should post every day).

Maybe I need to convince people.

Because this needs to happen.

The energy underneath it is: “I don’t trust that this is going to happen, so I have to make it happen.” And that’s where pushing can become forcing.

You can take bold action without trying to control the result.

Here’s what you need to remember:

When you’re believing in yourself: you take bold action without trying to control the result. You stay open to being guided and redirected.

When you’re forcing: you feel like you have to have the outcome, and your actions come from scarcity.

In both cases, you can take the exact same actions. You can keep going. But the energy behind it is different.

We hear: don’t force it. And we interpret that as: if it doesn’t happen easily, let it go. But ease isn’t necessarily the measure of alignment.

Colonel Sanders didn’t become successful because he never encountered resistance. The inspiring part of those stories is precisely that he kept believing in something before reality had caught up with the belief.

Forcing comes from fear. Letting go, dressed up as resilience, also comes from fear.

You don’t trust what will happen unless you control every part of it.

Or

You don’t trust you can survive another disappointment.

If you want it, the Universe wants it for you too.

Pushing the thing and believing in it are two different things.

To know where you stand, ask yourself this question: what would I do if the fear of being hurt wasn’t leading my decisions and my actions?

If you feel like you want more support to identify your fears, and to choose trust, join our community (if you did not already).

If you don’t, you’ll struggle

Like I did

Tamara

I don’t chase answers anymore. I go within, and I let them find me.

That’s not always been true. For a long time, I looked everywhere but there. Astrology, Human Design, other people’s frameworks, other people’s certainty, podcast after podcast, hoping someone else would hand me the thing I was actually capable of finding myself. I was relentless about it too. I’d go out of my comfort zone to prove to the Universe I was ready. I’d chase alignment like a job I needed to earn. Underneath all of it, without fully realizing it, I was treating the Universe like a parent — do the things you’re supposed to do, and maybe, if you’re good enough, you’ll be rewarded with what you want (AKA your dream life).

I know now that isn’t true. But knowing something and living it aren’t the same thing. You have to know it first, then experience it, before you actually become it. And for years, I knew what I wanted my relationship with the Universe to look like, long before I was actually living it.

Two things changed that. And they’re really the same thing, just said two different ways.

The first is this: to fully trust the Universe, you also have to fully trust yourself.

I used to think trusting the Universe meant handing something over. Surrendering, waiting, hoping it would sort itself out. But the Universe isn’t separate from you. It’s not out there, deciding whether you deserve what you want. It moves through you. Which means every time you doubt yourself, you’re doubting it too. Every time you silence your own knowing because it doesn’t make sense on paper, you’re telling the very intelligence you say you trust that you don’t actually believe it speaks through you. You can’t fully trust something you believe is separate from your own voice. The two have to be the same relationship, or neither one is real.

The second is this: if you don’t go within, you go without.

For most of my life, I went without (especially in my business). I looked at other people’s timelines, other people’s certainty, other people’s version of what a good life was supposed to look like. I told myself I wasn’t lucky. And then, as I got older, I upgraded that story into something that sounded more spiritual: maybe the Universe wants something different for me. Same story, nicer outfit. Either way, I was still handing my power to something outside of myself, still waiting for permission that was never going to come from anywhere but me.

What I’ve learned, slowly, and sometimes painfully, is that the Universe was never withholding anything. What I truly desire has always been the plan. Nobody outside of me gets to decide if I’m allowed to want it. I do. And the only real work is going within — quiet enough, honest enough, brave enough — to hear what’s already there. And when there is no clarity (yet!), to be brave enough to have space and let it come to me.

That’s harder than it sounds, by the way. Going within doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it’s a ten-minute meditation where nothing happens, until suddenly something does. Sometimes it’s noticing the difference between a message that makes you feel bigger and one that makes you feel smaller, and having the guts to walk away from the second one, even when it’s dressed up as wisdom. Sometimes it’s catching yourself mid-panic over something as small as tidying the house before guests arrive, and asking why, and why again, until you land on the real fear hiding underneath. That’s usually where the truth is. Not in the big dramatic realization, but in the small, honest question you were about to skip past.

I built the past 7 years of my life around learning to do that. Closing things that no longer fit. Starting things that made no logical sense but gave me butterflies anyway. Choosing, over and over, to trust the whisper instead of the noise. Some days I’m better at it than others. I still catch fear dressed up as logic more often than I’d like to admit. But every time I choose to go within instead of searching without, I get a little more proof that I can trust myself. The answer is always there. And every time I trust myself, I trust the Universe a little more too, because I’ve finally understood they were never two separate things to begin with.

If any of this landed somewhere in you, that’s probably not an accident. This is what I write about here. Not certainty, not a formula, just an honest account of what it looks like to keep choosing trust over fear, one ordinary day at a time. If you’re doing that too, or trying to, you’re in the right place.

Tamara B. is a reader-supported publication. But when you are paralyzed by fear, it means you are often in your mind trying to analyse, worrying, thinking of the past and hoping it’s not going to happen again, or trying to predict the future. You are disconnected from your body, your intuition, your source of guidance. And when you’re in that state, it takes an enormous amount of courage to take big leaps.

Your mind is super important and powerful to be creative, but not to make decisions. Your body is a tool to receive guidance (how you are feeling, what’s happening in your body). Not only are you connected to feel, but you’re also tuned in to receive information to move forward.

When your nervous system perceives uncertainty as potentially dangerous, your attention becomes oriented toward detecting threats. Your brain is designed to leave the present moment when it believes there might be something important to figure out, prevent, or control.

When you are spending lots of time in your head, there’s no room to receive information — it’s like wearing blinders, simply not on the right radio frequency. So the goal here is to learn (baby steps!) to perceive uncertainty as something good, not dangerous.

Someone telling you you’ll have a surprise is uncertain AND good.

This post is for paid subscribers. Mostly because I was brave enough for big moves. I was willing to travel, to sell, to pivot, to make huge decisions.

But what I noticed is that my fears were very present — specifically, after the move, and in between the big moves.

If you know Human Design, you know what a Hell Yes feels like for a Manifesting Generator. It’s strong, it’s visceral, it’s intense. When I have one, I have zero doubt making the decision. It’s actually in between those Hell Yeses that the fears show up, and I thought this article might help you learn to identify them too.

Let’s be clear, when I talk about fear, it can be just as much:

fear of not succeeding in your business

fear when your child takes the bus for the first time and you start thinking about accidents

fear of gaining weight if you eat gluten

fear that your friend took what you said the wrong way

fear that your partner doesn’t find you attractive anymore

fear of running out of time on Sunday

fear of getting cancer

These are ALL fears. Yes, different levels of intensity, but they’re all fears, and they all take up the space in your mind. These fears show up on certain days, certain periods of our lives, and the more we become aware that they’re there (I’ll give you a little tool for that below), the more we take back the power to choose trust instead.

Because fear and trust can’t coexist. It’s one or the other, present in you right now. And when you “let” yourself sink into your fears, your actions, your choices, your decisions throughout the day become a reflection of those fears. You drift further away from the life you actually desire.

For me — I don’t know about you — it’s easy to set my fears aside when I have a big Hell Yes, because it’s strong, it’s direct, it’s clear.

But when it’s a preference for something, an inspiration, a content idea, and especially when it means letting time, letting the Universe, do its thing — OMG. That’s hard.

Opening a new Substack account, that’s easy. Trusting that it’ll help my business someday, that’s hard, because the result doesn’t show up the second after you open the account.

Trusting that the inspiration to start the secret gatherings (September 20th) — something that’s really “woo woo” — is going to resonate with people, that’s hard.

Deciding to unschool my kids, that’s easy. Trusting that they’ll listen to their hunger cues even though I don’t control it, that they’ll get off the iPad when they’ve had enough of it even though I’m not forcing them, that they’ll move their bodies even though I’m not making them, that’s hard.

I find the real challenge lives in the everyday. The challenge is in sustaining trust around the big decisions we’ve already made.

Fears also show up as doubts, worries, concerns.

If you feel like you want more support to, 1- identify your fears, and 2- choose trust, come join our community (if you did not already).

There is 3 options depending on what you desire:

Free gets you the occasional post — enough to keep coming back to yourself, even if you’re just dipping a toe in.

Paid gets you the full experience: the live online gathering twice a month, where we recalibrate trust together. The complete archive — every article, every tool, every practice I’ve built. And a space to actually talk it through with comments and chat, so you’re not doing this alone in your head.

Founding member is for the ones who want more direct access to me — one question, answered just for you, in a private chat every week plus everything that the paid option has.

None of these is the “right” one. I also talked to someone else about it, and let’s just say that went in a different direction (she said it sounds like a “cult”).

Maybe you can relate, but my biggest fear is being wrong (foolish).

Being wrong about how I believe in what I’m doing, how I believe people will benefit from it, and how this is a project with real potential.

I’m scared that the podcasts, books, and theories I love — Louise Hay, Conversation with God, Jaclyn Shaw, Amanda Frances, you name it — are just bullshit. That I’ve been brainwashed into believing all of it. I know it’s an irrational fear, but it’s there.

I’m scared of waking up one morning and thinking: what was I thinking? Like I was so naive to believe things like: when you have a desire, the Universe wants you to have it. Nudges are golden nuggets, you have to follow them. You have to be truly unapologetic about who you are and what you want.

Why is it so scary to believe that? Why, specifically, does believing in something like the Universe or God carry so much shame?

We live in a culture that put rationality on a pedestal, as proof of intelligence. Doubting, analyzing, demanding proof — that’s what we associate with someone sharp, clear-headed, someone who doesn’t get fooled. And believing in something you can’t prove, measure, or explain with logic automatically gets filed under naive. That’s what we were taught to value in school. So when you believe the Universe is guiding you, giving you your next steps through your intuition, part of you is scared of being seen as the person who isn’t smart enough to realize it’s probably just a coincidence, and that she’s not being a smart cookie here.

The word “cult” that came up, it doesn’t come out of nowhere. We all carry stories in our heads about gurus, communities that went wrong, people who got manipulated in the name of a belief bigger than themselves. So even when your own belief is sincere, pure, lived, you end up carrying the weight of all those stories anyway. The people listening to you, even without meaning to, connect it to something shady they’ve already seen. And you’re scared of being put into the same category.

Your ego’s job is to protect you from pain. And one of the worst kinds of pain is public humiliation. Being wrong in private isn’t a big deal, everyone’s wrong sometimes. But being wrong in front of people, after you’ve built something, after you’ve said out loud what you believe (like you’ve gone too far out on a limb), that’s what your ego sees as a major threat. So it preps you for it: what if you’re wrong? What if this whole thing is just a story you told yourself to feel better? It does that to protect you. Except in protecting you from humiliation, it also keeps you from fully living what you already know to be true for you.

I’m scared, but I’m choosing to come back to trust. This morning, before writing this, the fear was there. But for me, I keep letting myself be guided, and I keep believing in a truth (my truth): believing in something that makes me feel expansive is believing in something that supports me. I’ve never been wrong about that, not once, so far.

The difference between believing in the Universe (for me) and getting pulled into a cult isn’t whether you believe in God, the Universe, angels, or nothing at all. The real difference is what it makes you feel in your body.

A cult is manipulation. Someone taking control of your belief to make you feel small, dependent, unable to trust yourself without going through them. It’s designed to contract you — to make you more fearful, more isolated, more convinced you need that person or that group to be okay. Even when it’s dressed up as love, light, community, the body isn’t fooled. It closes. It shrinks. You can feel it.

Believing in something bigger than you, when it’s real, does the exact opposite. It opens you. It expands you. It makes you more yourself, not less. It brings you back to your own authority, not someone else’s. That’s expansion — that feeling of becoming more free, not more trapped, by believing it. That feeling is your guide.

And I know that what creates expansion for you won’t necessarily look the same for the person next to you. It’s not a universal formula. But that’s exactly why it’s such a reliable compass, because it’s calibrated to you specifically. No one else gets to tell you what should make you feel open or closed. Your body already knows, and it never lies about this, even when your head is busy trying to find a logical reason to doubt.

The project being announced on August 30th makes me feel expansive, so I keep moving forward.

So if you’re scared, like me, of being wrong, I think you just have to name what’s actually happening. It’s not that you doubt the truth of what you believe. It’s that you’re scared of being judged by people who don’t understand it yet.

You can be right, and still be scared.

The August 30th announcement is going to address exactly that, and even help you trust yourself more, despite the fears that show up in everyday life.

I’m moving forward to give you the courage to move forward. I’m daring to show you that our fears aren’t real. I promised myself I’d move forward in my business from now on with my intuition instead of my rational mind (AKA my fears), and here’s the proof of that.

Put it in your calendar: Announcement of the secret gatherings.

If you’re not a member yet (free or paid), sign up now to get access on August 30th, since it’ll be members-only.

Tamara B. is a reader-supported publication. If I actually go by my current results, I probably shouldn’t keep going. I have no proof this is going to work, other than my energy, my intuition, still guiding me in this direction.

That. Is. Scary.

That’s why I created the Big Spiritual Detox challenge, because I needed a daily reminder of how I was going to choose, and direct, my energy: toward trust not fear.

I’m still doing it, because I still need it.

I wanted to write about this because what you need might be exactly that, or it might be something else entirely.

What helps you get into a state of trust? What shifts the feeling in your body from contraction to expansion?

Usually, it’s not complicated things. We even tend to think it’s insignificant.

“It’s not 15 minutes of meditation that’s going to change the fact that I don’t have enough money.”

“Ah, it’s not some affirmation on a little piece of paper that’s going to make my business take off.”

We assume it won’t change much. And that’s exactly where we slide back into fear, because we think what’s actually going to move the needle is taking action, working harder, pouring more energy into what we want, or we assume it’s not even worth trying because it’s never going to happen anyway.

But what we forget is that yes, action helps you move forward. But action taken from fear versus inspired action don’t lead to the same place. When you do your 15-minute meditation, or pull your morning affirmation, or take your matcha outside, you’re taking the time to reconnect with your body, your intuition, the Universe. It’s like tuning in to the radio station of trust. That’s where inspired action comes from. Those are the actions that actually bring you toward where you want to go.

For example, if you want to change jobs, and you think you need to double down because you can’t find anything, and you’re starting to lose hope you’ll ever find work you love, in that headspace, you feel like you’re short on time. So you might decide that meditating for 15 minutes in the morning before work, instead of job hunting, is a waste of time. So you choose to search instead.

What will probably happen is that you’ll be so deep in fear that you’ll come across a job offer that isn’t really aligned with you (you don’t feel expansive about it), but your head tells you the conditions, the pay, and the pension are good, and that you’d even get to work from home. But the job itself doesn’t put you in a state of expansion.

But if you choose to do the routines, use the tools that put you in trust, even if part of you feels like you should be doing more, that’s going to redirect your attention toward trust, and when your intuition speaks, you’ll actually hear it.

So that’s going to allow you to, one, wait longer without settling for a job that isn’t quite what you love (trusting that it’s coming), and two, help you move forward in an aligned way. You’ll still take action, but the “right” actions. Maybe that looks like going to the new yoga studio for the class that’s been catching your eye for a while. Even though that has nothing to do with finding a job in your field. But during those classes, you feel so good, and you often get the inspiration for certain actions. Or maybe it looks like one morning, after mindfully having your matcha, you get a message from your cousin who saw something that might interest you, something that has nothing to do with your field, and if you hadn’t taken that little moment that morning to be in trust, you probably would have said that’s not for you because it’s not what you studied (fear). But now, maybe you actually consider this new path. Something you wouldn’t have done if you were in scarcity mode.

I see it personally, how it completely changes my energy, my actions, and my decisions when I take care of my energy daily. I also see how I slide back into fear, doubt, and control when I don’t take the time to practice these things.

The things that work well for me are:

Listening to a podcast from someone who preaches the relationship with the Universe (like Louise Hay), but not “how to sell your new program in 3 steps”

Meditation (soft music + a 10-minute timer)

Pulling an affirmation card

Being in nature

Being intentional daily about my trust, my faith (like the Big Spiritual Detox challenge)

What about you? What are your tools that help you align your energy?

I put together affirmations you can cut up and put in a little bowl to pull from, if that’s the kind of thing that helps align your energy like it does mine.

I pull one every morning.

I even made a sheet of affirmations for kids, if you want some for your own kiddos too. My girls always want to pull one (just like me).

Ces outils sont disponibles seulement pour les membres payants. But what always comes back for me is: okay, that’s great, but how do I actually put this into practice? How do I use it? Because information is powerful, but not if you never practice it.

As Neale Donald Walsch put it in Conversation with God,

Words can help you understand something, but experience is what lets you actually know it.

What I’m sharing here is, of course, my own experience. For every person, it’s going to look different. I’m not sharing this to say this is how you have to live it — I’m sharing it so you can see the “how,” so you have a way to integrate and put it into practice.

Right now, I’m focusing STRICTLY on listening to my intuition. I’m still on the Big Spiritual Detox Challenge (day 22), so I don’t want to scatter my energy.

I started the challenge completely mixed up (you can read that article here) and I felt the need to make space, to stop listening to everyone else, and most of all, to relearn how to listen to myself. I’m not talking here about setting boundaries, eating when I’m hungry, or going to bed when I’m tired. I’m talking mainly about the actions I take in my business. I’d been operating mostly from my head — my fears — instead of my intuition for a while, and that’s why I felt so mixed up. I didn’t know where to go anymore.

So I started with this:

One, I stopped listening to podcasts and Instagram accounts talking about what you “have to do” to succeed in business, and to my fear of not succeeding (which was creating actions that weren’t very aligned).

Two, I made space. If I stayed busy, in my case, I stayed in my fears. I needed to slow down to slow my thoughts down. I went back to meditating. It’s not complicated — I just put on relaxing music on Spotify that stops after 10 minutes. The goal is just to create emptiness. When thoughts come back (trying to figure out what I should do next, a new strategy, a new program...), I empty out again.

Three, I noticed that I love, and it genuinely feels good, to align my energy and frequency daily with the power of the Universe. So I started taking long walks while listening to podcasts from people who preach the power of the Universe, someone like Louise Hay, for example. I come back from those walks feeling light, feeling in trust with life, even when I don’t know the next step.

Four, from the very first day I started doing this, two things happened: the idea came to create a 30-day challenge for myself, to be intentional about coming back to trust daily, because my fears were taking up so much space, and the desire to open a Substack and start writing showed up too.

I started hearing my intuition again.

But my fears were still right there too.

The moment I thought about starting a Substack: I thought so many people are already on Substack, people are going to think I’m just following a trend and trying to make money. I won’t make any money from this, I have no one, zero followers.

Throughout the day, my thoughts kept drifting back to those fears. The work of the 30 days for me was — and still is — redirecting my fears toward something I trust (for real, not fake). If I felt like taking my walk, I went. If I felt like meditating, I did it. And otherwise, I’d tell myself: you know your intuition is strong, you know it’s guided you toward extraordinary things in your life, keep going. Your job is to hold onto trust. And that’s what I did.

That inner talk happened several times a day. Because I knew that at the end of the day, I had to either check TRUST or FEAR on my tracker.

There were a few times I let my fears take over (and thats ok). But the next day, I chose differently.

The real work is becoming as aware as possible of where the actions you take each day are actually coming from — your fears, or your trust.

If I’d been in a moment where my fears were present, if I’d let those fears take over, I would have avoided starting my Substack (avoiding is an action too, by the way!). I would have gone back into strategy mode, trying to figure out what I could sell that would interest people. I would have taken a bunch of actions rooted in my fear of not succeeding in my business. But every time those fears showed up, I tried to redirect my attention back to trust.

That trust either gave me the strength to take the actions my intuition was guiding me toward, or it helped me avoid the actions my fears were pushing me to take.

Here’s an example. Say you’re having a conversation with your partner, and he thinks you’re not strict enough with the kids. If you let the fears guide you (he’s going to force me to be a mom I don’t want to be, we’re going to fight, the kids are going to get hurt by our conflict...), you’ll take actions rooted in fear. You might try to control the situation, debate and try to convince him your way is the right one, or avoid speaking up because you don’t want to fight, and then ruminate about it for the rest of the day.

But if you come back to trust instead: I have the right to be myself in my relationships, and he has the right to express his views too. Suddenly it feels less dangerous. Maybe you’re inspired to have a conversation with him like: I understand your concern, but I feel like this is how I want to show up with our kids, and you’re free to have your own way with them. Or maybe you open up a deeper conversation with him to understand where his worry is actually coming from. You don’t know the outcome either way, but the actions come from a more aligned place, and they support you both more.

One more example: say you’re worried your child isn’t eating enough vegetables, and you stay stuck in that fear. You might start thinking he’s going to get sick more often, that you’re setting him up for bad habits as an adult, that he’s going to be missing nutrients and have problems down the road. If you notice that and come back to trust instead — my child is healthy right now, everything is fine, he’s going through a pickier phase, and like everything, this too shall pass — that doesn’t mean you stop caring or just let him do whatever he wants. Instead of forcing him to eat his steamed broccoli just to ease your own fear, you come back to a state where you’re no longer “pressured by fear” to change him. That’s often when you get inspired to make his favorite smoothie again, the one he’d forgotten about, or to invite him to cook with you, which almost always helps kids discover and try new foods. But it comes from trust and support for your child, rather than fear and control.

What makes this process hard sometimes is that when we choose to stay in our fears, it’s often because it feels like a kind of false security.

Sometimes we think it’s love: if I force my child to eat his broccoli, it’s because I love him.

Sometimes it’s because we want to control the outcome: if I can convince him my way is better than his, I won’t have to worry anymore.

Sometimes it’s a false belief that taking action will get us where we want to go faster than doing nothing would. If I take a bunch of actions in my business, even ones coming from fear, it gives me a false sense of security in the moment that I did what needed to be done.

Fear attacks, love (faith) amends.

The goal isn’t to never be in fear again. It’s to choose, as often as possible, to come back to trust.

That’s the whole reason behind the Challenge. If you want to do it whenever you’re ready, it’s right here: The Big Spiritual Detox.

If you want to receive the next articles to help you understand and find your way back to that connection with trust, subscribe — it’s free!

Subscribe now

You want me to prove it to you?

Here’s the proof that it works

Tamara

I remember giving a talk on Unschooling once. A man sitting at the back of the room started raising his hand the moment I began speaking. He’d walked in with his own agenda.

His questions weren’t really connected to the information I was sharing, they were connected to his fears. And mostly, I could feel that he wanted me to prove that unschooling was better than the traditional method (he was skeptical to say the least). I found it so uncomfortable, because I felt the person wasn’t there to be inspired, but to prove his own fears right (”I knew it was too good to be true”). I only understood that after the talk was over.

In the moment, I just wanted to invite him to leave the room and go find another someone else to ask his questions.

But I think we do the same thing with spirituality. We want to believe. We want something, or someone, to lean on. We want to trust in something bigger than us when we’re going through doubt or hard times. And sometimes, we feel drawn to, or curious about, a new way of seeing things, a new philosophy.

But for a lot of us, our ego wants to protect us from being wrong. Our body, our intuition, the Universe, makes us feel pulled toward a deeper kind of spirituality, believing in God, in angels, in the Universe, or simply in life itself, but our ego says: what if you’re wrong?

And sometimes, we take a baby step and dare to believe a little, and the second we don’t have proof, we beat ourselves up over it: you’re so foolish for believing that nonsense. Total shame.

To avoid that, we look for security. We want someone to prove it’s real. We want proof so that, if we dare to try again, we can’t be wrong, we won’t have to live in shame. I want to avoid being hurt, avoid humiliating myself.

This has happened to me a few times with Human Design too. I could feel that the person wanted to believe, but they were too scared. And then they’d shift into debate mode. Prove it to me.

Like when I’d explain that a Generator needs to honor what they love doing: “Yeah, but if you only do what you love, you’ll never get anything done” (fear of listening to yourself).

Or when I’d explain that people with a 2 in their profile need, and genuinely enjoy, a lot of time alone: “But if I don’t push myself, I’ll never feel like seeing anyone, and I won’t build my social skills” (fear of listening to yourself, and fear that you need to be more than who you already are).

Over time, I’ve learned to say: you’re free to believe it or not. It’s not for everyone. If it resonates, wonderful. If it doesn’t, there will be other tools out there for you.

I also remember when my honey bear took me to see Tony Robbins, and my family told me it sounded like a cult. I was so scared of being wrong. Scared of going, and getting there, and realizing I’d been fooled into believing something that was a scam. It wasn’t! But the fear was there, and that fear of humiliation around our beliefs, that’s something a lot of people carry.

Today’s message is an invitation to notice if you’re carrying a bit of ego around your own spirituality. Is there a path, a tool, a theory, a practice that you feel pulled toward, that you’re curious about, but your head keeps jumping straight to judgment: that’s silly, come on, that doesn’t actually work, that sounds like a cult, etc.

But here’s the most important part of what I want to say (read it twice!!!!): your body, your interests, your curiosity, will never guide you toward something that’s bad for you. It will always guide you toward something that supports you in becoming even more you, more in your authenticity, more in your full expression.

Where is your ego holding you back from going?

That’s my devotion to you. This is a space I wanted to create so you can come recharge and build your own spiritual relationship, in your own image, based on what you actually want, not the one your mother wanted for you, but the one you’re scared to actually have.

To receive the next tools and articles, become a member, it’s free.

Subscribe now

First Q& A

Why it’s not working out for you

Tamara

This is the first Q&A!

This Substack is reader-supported.

What if!?
